Seedlings often die from damping-off disease caused by pathogens in the soil. Symptoms include seed rot before germination, shoot decay before emergence, and stem rot at the soil line. Damping-off is most common in cool, wet soil. It can be managed by planting at optimal times, using disease-free soil, improving drainage, following good cultural practices like thinning plants, and employing sanitation methods such as steam-treating or solarizing soil.

Pick Your Crops
Why go to all this trouble, then run down to the local feed and
seed store and pick up whatever’s on the shelf? A simple internet
search can put you in touch with companies that sell organic
seeds and seedlings.
Look for the USDA Organic logo. Organic transplants sold in your
local gardening center will have tags or labels showing they’ve
been grown under organic conditions.
Contact your local Cooperative Extension Agents for tips on which
plants grow best in your particular area.
The Top Ten veggies include tomatoes, zucchini squash, peppers,
cabbage, bush beans, lettuce, beets, carrots, chard, and radishes.
Which part of the plant will you eat? It varies by plant.
You’ll be eating roots of plants such as carrots, beets, turnips, and
radishes; and stems of asparagus and rhubarb. You eat the leaves
of lettuce, kale, cabbage, chard, spinach, and most herbs; and the
seeds of green beans and peas.
Onions and garlic are the bulbs of those plants, while tomatoes,
eggplant, zucchini, and pumpkins are fruit because they contain
seeds. One additional tip is to plant marigolds with your veggies.
They repel insects.
Choose veggies you and your family will eat, unless you’re planning to sell the unwanted plants at a farmer’s market. Think of
herbs as well – home-grown herbs are far superior to what you’ll
find in the supermarket.
Also remember summer vacation – if you’re going to be gone, find
someone who can look after your garden and harvest those tomatoes and zucchini for you.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Damping-Off of Seedlings Quick Tips Natural Pest Control
1. Damping-off of
Seedlings
When seedlings of vegetables or annual
flowers die soon after germinating, the cause
often is one of several pathogens that cause
damping-off disease. Seeds may rot before they
germinate, shoots may decay before they emerge, or stems
of seedlings may rot at the soil line. Damping-off is most
common when conditions are wet and cool and soil is
compacted. Manage damping-off by planting at the right
time, germinating seeds indoors in disease-free soils, and
following planting practices that reduce risk of the disease.
Plant when temperatures are favorable for
rapid seedling growth.
✦ Don’t plant seeds or transplants into cold, wet soil.
✦ If you want to start plants earlier, plant seeds
indoors and transplant later.
✦ Shallow planting will speed up germination
outdoors if conditions are marginal.
✦ If planting potato seed pieces, be sure soil is at
least 50ºF.
Reduce waterlogging in planting beds by
improving drainage.
✦ Use raised beds.
✦ Add soil amendments such as redwood shavings,
peat moss, or bark.
✦ Avoid using unfinished or green compost, which
holds water and promotes disease development.
Apply good cultural practices for seedlings.
✦ Don’t overwater.
✦ Thin plants after they emerge to improve air
circulation.
✦ Don’t overfertilize with nitrogen.
✦ Avoid planting the same crops in the same place
year after year.
University of California
Statewide Integrated Pest
Management Program
Employ good sanitation practices.
✦ Use clean pots.
✦ Remove and discard diseased plants.
✦ For plants grown in pots or cold frames, use
steam-treated soil or pasteurized potting mix.
✦ Outdoors, consider solarizing soil before planting,
a method that uses the sun’s heat and clear
plastic to kill soil-borne pests.
✦ Use the highest quality seed available.
Minimize the use of pesticides that pollute our
waterways. Use nonchemical alternatives or less
toxic pesticide products whenever possible. Read
product labels carefully and follow instructions
on proper use, storage, and disposal.

killed the left-hand spinach seedling.
Seedlings damaged by damping-off
pathogens (left) usually have a dark,
shriveled area on their stems or roots,
especially near the soil line. Shoots
may also rot before they emerge.
