2. 1. Beach Road Apartments
(83 Beach Road, Auckland Central)
DESIGN DATE: Feb 2016 - ongoing
SECTOR: Residential
MY ROLE: Site Analysis, Landscape Design and Plant Selection
OVERALL LANDSCAPE DESIGN
This site is located on the south side of Beach
Road in Central Auckland, with an area of 815.2
m2. Surrounded by medium to high rise buildings,
the proposal is for a 15-storey apartment building.
Landscape garden spaces are located on three
different levels of the building - being level 1, level
2 and level 9, with areas of 69.28 m2, 157.98 m2
and 194.93 m2 respectively.
The design aims to create a variety of relaxing
shared space for people living in the apartments.
The gardens share a common design language
with a textural base of pebbles and ground covers
overlaid with paving slabs to demark paticular
areas and uses with the arrangement of hedges
and taller planting used to assist with definition
and separation of sub-spaces. Through the
combination of hard and soft materials spaces
are defined as private or use in common. The
design of each garden differs in response to the
particular pattern of layout and occupation that are
generated by the building form.

3. 2. Green Space Network for a Regional Auckland
DESIGN DATE: JULY 2014 - NOV 2015
PURPOSE: Research Projects for A Degree of Master in Landscape Architecture
This project explores how a green network for regional Auckland could
emerge from a close study of both the ecological and social forces at
work in contemporary New Zealand urbanism. The project begins by
reviewing the importance of a green network in the shaping of a regional
city structure and maintaining the Auckland lifestyle. The author develops
a methodology based on two sets of criteria; environmental and social.
Three case studies are developed, ranging in scale from the regional
through to the local to test the design methodology. The project concludes
by suggesting that by guiding the emergence of a green network in the
greater Auckland Region, the growing population will gain both a new
enlarged public realm and ensure the continuation of the existing Auckland
lifestyle.

4. 3. Yingyue Residential Area Design
COMPLETE DATE: 2003
SECTOR: Residential
MY ROLE: Master plan, Landscape Design and Construction Drawings
SITE AREA: 9.6 ha
Yingyue is the first contemporary residential area in Jiaozhou when private cars became popular in developed areas of
China. To avoid potential traffic accidents and emission pollution, this project used pedestrian-oriented idea to separate
driveway and walkway system. A linear park was designed in the middle of the site cross north to south, so people from
each department can very easily walk to the park. Driveways were designed around outside of the residential area.
Landscape design used local material to sustain cultural-social identity.

SECTOR: Administrative Centre, New District
MY ROLE: Team Leader, Urban Design, Spatial Analysis
This new district was defined as the administrative centre, commercial centre and waterside leisure space of Linyi city.
Located in intersection of three rivers, the dynamic water view and native plants reserves give this site an extraordinary
character. Using traditional cultural concept, a central garden with a clear axis dominates the high-rise building cluster, and
balances the relationship between artificial and natural environment.

8. 7. Jiaozhou Strategic Plan
COMPLETE DATE: 2013
BUILT-UP AREA: 106 KM2 URBAN POPULATION: 580,000
MY ROLE: Team Leader, Planning Strategy, Spatial Analysis, Writing Report
Jiaozhou is located in the west coast of Qindao which is the biggest city and commercial
centre of Shandong Province. Jiaozhou is defined as one of the most important part of
Qingdao Metropolitan, advanced industry centre and regional transport centre.
There have been four generations of comprehensive city master plans in Jiaozhou’s growth
history. Attracted by the central city, the growth history provides a very strong eastwards
direction along transport corridors.
Before 2012, Jiaozhou was a transport hub in Qingdao-Jinan corridor. However, the built
up of Jiaozhoubay tunnel and bridge weakened its strength. This trategic plan focused
on transport integrated spatial analysis. Through planning a series transport corridors
around the airport, including railway, subway and motorway systems, we expect that after
Jiaozhou’s status shift from the "core" to the "edge", the city will "recover" its core status
within regional development.
