Brazil s Independence Of Brazil
The people of Brazil gained independence from Portugal on September 7, 1822, and became known as
the Federative Republic of Brazil. With European, African, and Indigenous peoples influences, Brazil
has become a melting pot of ethnicities, religions, and cultures. It is made up of 26 states and has a
total population of 205,823,665 people. The two largest ethnic groups are White at 47.7 percent and
mulatto (mixed white and black) at 43.1 percent of the population. Most of the population lives on the
east coast, specifically the cities of Sao Paulo, Brasilia, and Rio de Janeiro, and they live under a
federal presidential republic government. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese, but there are
less common languages spoken such as Spanish, English, German, Italian, and other Amerindian
languages. The average age is 31.6 years old, and the gender ratio is relatively equal throughout each
age group. The birth rate is 14.3 births/1,000 population, and the death rate is 6.6 deaths/1,000
population. These statistics produce a population growth rate of 0.75%. Surprisingly, 90% of the
population has some religious association. There are many different religions in Brazil, but the two
largest religious groups are Roman Catholics that make up 64.6% and Protestant that make up 22.2%.
Other religions consist of Judaism, Buddism, and Jehovah Witnesses (cia.gov, 2016).

Advantages Of Diversity-Conscious Leadership
Diversity Conscious Leadership
(APA Citation)
The United States is a diverse nation with citizens originating from every other nation on Earth.
Despite this diversity, Americans have only recently begun to identify diversity as a integral part of the
workplace; and put into practice programs to diversify, and therefore, maximize efficiency and
production. However, simply diversifying the workplace, or any other place for that matter, will not
automatically increase the efficiency of workers. It requires a diversity conscious leader who has been
trained and experienced in such matters to make diversity an asset in the workplace. Diversity
leadership has been defined as ways in which people and groups relate to one another and how
management [leadership] decisions are made in the midst of the differences, similarities, and tensions
among groups. (Lim, Cho, Curry, 2008) And in order to accomplish this, a good leader must know the
difference between the assimilation and inclusion. Assimilation takes a diverse group and
homogenizes them, while inclusion maintains the individual differences between people and
capitalizes on those differences for the benefit of all. For instance, instilling a goal oriented sense of
identity allows for each individual to maintain their uniqueness, while coming together to accomplish
the goal. It is the goal that each individual concentrates on, not the differences between the members
of the group. Also, a good leader will facilitate good

Analysis Of Dante s Divine Comedy

Purgatory
Purgatory is part number two in Dante s Divine Comedy . This was written in 1300. Although the
story is rather ancient and rare, when looking at the spiritual story with a logical mindset it has the
ability to connect with today. The connection I was able to find behind Dante s work of art was the
psychological and geographical impact. The Divine Comedy contains real life morals; Dante s work is
far more than just a spiritual afterlife poem series. For example, he shows that any journey is full of
trial and error, various beliefs, and hidden lessons.
The divine comedy consists of three parts; The Inferno , Purgatorio , and Paradisio . The inferno is all
different levels of hell and all of the seven deadly sins. Dante meets his guide virgil here who is with
him throughout the entire Divine Comedy. Virgil is the one who takes him on the journey through hell.
The circles of hell starting with circle one are Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence,
and Fraud. In each circle, Dante meets someone new who then explains their story and background of
how they got there. Each level has different punishments. After they finish their journey they get to the
second part; Purgatorio. Purgatory is for the saved who purged their sins. Purgatory is where they
prepare themselves to become worthy of God. The only difference is that Purgatory is only temporary.
This is also, where Dante recognizes many old

California Raffle Regulations Essay
California Raffle Regulations
It s legal for nonprofit organizations (NGO) to hold raffles in California, either for the raise of funds
or for charitable purposes. At least 90% of the proceedings from ticket sales must either be used in the
organization s interest, or be donated to one or more charities that are established in California.
Prior to holding any raffles, an NGO must first register Attorney General s Registry of Charitable
Trusts. According to the Penal Code, section 320.5, NGOs can only register with the trust if they have
qualified to conduct business for at least 1 year in the state of California.
If an organization decides to offer both free and paid tickets for its raffle, the event will be classified
as an opportunity drawing . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An annual registration statement can be filed with the UC San Diego Foundation. By doing so, the
organization can easily register all of its upcoming raffles.
The 90/10 Rule
According to the newest laws and regulations, all raffles must comply with this rule. It states that 90%
of all raffle proceeds have to go to charity. The remaining 10% can be used by the organizing party for
raffle related expenses. Due to this rule, it is very hard for organizations to offer substantial prizes
based solely on ticket proceeds. A solution to this rule can be found in prize donations.
Tax Regulations
Because raffles are considered a form of lottery, the IRS keeps a close eye on every organization that
registered to hold such an event. As such, the organizing party is responsible for reporting the prize
winner to the IRS, if it meets both of the following two conditions:
The prize pool value exceeds $600
The prize pool value is at least 300 times larger than the price of one raffle ticket
If both of the conditions are met, the organizer must make sure that the winner of the prize fills out a

Impeachments For Senators
The requirements for Senators are an interesting point in the Constitution, and it surprises me that they
remain identical to this day. Each senator serves for six years. It s interesting that each elected Senator
serves for three times as long as a Representative and for two years more than the President, without
re election of course. Senators are required to be five years older than Representatives, but five years
younger than the president, and they are also responsible for the Impeachment process. It s interesting
that Treason requires at least two eye witness to overt treason, or open admission within court, and the
punishment can only be against the person who committed the crime, and not their associates or
family. George Mason,

Colonialism and Imperialism in Joseph Conrad s Heart of...
Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, describes a life altering journey that the protagonist,
Marlow, experiences in the African Congo. The story explores the historical period of colonialism in
Africa to exemplify Marlow s struggles. Marlow, like other Europeans of his time, is brought up to
believe certain things about colonialism, but his views change as he experiences colonialism first
hand. This essay will explore Marlow s view of colonialism, which is shaped through his experiences
and also from his relation to Kurtz. Marlow s understanding of Kurtz s experiences show him the
effects colonialism can have on a man s soul.
In Europe, colonialism was emphasized as being a great and noble cause. It was seen as, the ... Show

He says the Romans were conquerors and not colonialists, and explains that what saves the colonialist
is the devotion to efficiency and the unselfish belief in the idea (pg.65 66). Yet throughout the novel,
Marlow s personal experiences show how colonialism was just that, the robbing of Africa for ivory
and profit by Europeans. He ascertains that there were no improvement in Africa like the Europeans
claimed, unless the body of a middle aged negro, with a bullet hole in the forehead...may be
considered improvement (pg.81). This notion of extreme physical violence is something that threads
its way through the novella.
The above epitomizes what Marlow thinks about what colonialism really brought to Africa. Some
Europeans may have genuinely believed in the idea of colonialism as being noble, but this belief in the
idea cannot save the horrible actions of colonialism or make them acceptable. Indeed this false belief
in an idea, rather then the practicalities of colonialism only aids to brutality of such actions.
Furthermore at the time of the writing of this novella, approximately within the 1800 s, exploration
was seen as a wonderful adventure and the period of mapping out the world was well under way.
Europeans saw Africa as a black place on the map waiting to be discovered. When Marlow was young

Mindfulness As A Treatment For Depression
Psychology is one of the youngest lines of science and there is still a lot to be learnt about it. Before
the use of anti depressants, one of the first treatments used by psychologists was psychoanalysis which
was founded by Sigmund Freud in 1852. Then later treatments such as electroconvulsive therapy
formally known as electro shock therapy were used. Currently the most common treatment for
depression is medication such as antidepressants as they are proven to be extremely effective in
treating the symptoms of this mental illness. However even though there are so many treatments for
mental illnesses such as depression the biggest issue we face with depression is its habit of being a
reoccurring problem. The purpose of this essay is to discuss mindfulness as a treatment for depression.
In the essay not only its effectiveness towards the treatment and prevention of depression but also how
it treats and prevents depression is discussed. This was until psychologists found a more effective way
to not only treat but prevent the symptoms of depression using mindfulness as a therapy. Although,
mindfulness is not a very well known treatment it has been found to be very effective of turning the
lives around of sufferers of mental illness.
Mindfulness, a seemingly effective and relatively new approach to assist in treatment or prevention of
some mental health disorders; one being depression. Depression affects 121 million people worldwide
and is the cause of over 850,000 deaths each

Cost Function in Railways
Introduction
This assignment focuses on the cost functions of the Dutch Railways. In this tutorial will be an
estimated cost function developed for the Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS). This cost function
(expressed in Dutch Guilders) is based on the period of Year 1951 till Year 1993. This due to certain
developments that made it more difficult to come to a good approach of a cost function. Based on the
cost function, developed in this tutorial, there will be an answer provided on the question whether is it
efficient to allow competition on the tracks.
First we will define a cost function related to the NS. Then we will describe the important variables.
After defining the cost function, the relevance of the cost function will be explained. ... Show more

The type of production function is as follows Y=f(X), where Y is the maximum produced outputs and
X is the given inputs. For every unit of input there is a price g related to it.
As said earlier if the company has a cost minimizing strategy then the earlier type can be written as
follows:
Min∑▒〖Xg〗^
The results of the above type gives as the cost function for every level of Y given the input prices g.
So the type for the cost function is C= h(Y,g).
In the case where the firm does not follow a cost minimizing strategy it is preferable for the company
to calculate a cost output relation. In other words it is better to sum the costs and relate them to the
input so that it can easily predict the effect of changes in output levels on total cost. The reason for not
taking into account all the variables is that in the case of a public firm if we calculate many
unnecessary variables then we will have a higher variance of the estimated parameters of the
necessary variables. In this case our results will be biased as if the goal of the company is to minimize
cost and we were missing data e.g. the input prices.
The most important step in producing the cost function is the estimation of its parameters. The most
common form that is used for the calculation of production function is the Cobb Douglas form. Cobb
Douglas is a linear function and has many restrictions as the assumption that all elasticities of

Christopher Columbus And The Era Of The Americas
Many people think of Christopher Columbus as the person who discovered the Americas. However,
Leif Ericson, a Norseman or Viking, was the first European to see the Americas. Columbus was born
to Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa sometime between August 25 and October 31, 1451
in Italy near Genoa (Heat Moon 4). Columbus had four other siblings (Phillips 64). Columbus
childhood was a tough one, even though he had a great parental guidance. Columbus grew up in a
medieval world exhausted by war and bigotries, religious corruption and intolerance, a time of
widespread spiritual dissolution and social pessimism, a continent deeply in need of a rebirth (Heat
Moon 5). The era of which Columbus lived in was really in need of a make over. The way people
acted, their decisions, and the changes in their religion were not acceptable to any standard. That time
period was very boring and depressing and it was difficult to be happy. Christopher spent some of his
early years at his father s trade of weaving and later he became a sailor on the Mediterranean [Sea] (
Christopher Columbus ). By the time he was 31 or 32, Christopher had become a master mariner in
the Portuguese Merchant Service ( Christopher Columbus ). Later in life, Columbus had married Doña
Felipa Perestrello o Moníz (Heat Moon 7). After eight years of persistence and two rejections from
Portugal, Columbus was granted the finance needed to complete the voyage from Spain ( Christopher

Cuban Missile Crisis By Bryce Faber
Cuban Missile Crisis
Bryce Faber The Cuban Missile crisis in October of 1962 was the closest the world has ever come to
nuclear war. Over thirteen October days, the U.S. and the Soviet Union faced off over Nuclear missile
sites found on Cuba 90 miles from the Florida shore. These two world superpowers locked horns in
what became known as the Cold War. The Cuban Missile crisis was the climactic showdown in which
John F. Kennedy and Nikita Krushchev Made decisions that would affect the fate of all mankind and
the wrong one could end the world as we know it. Before the rise of Cuban communism, the United
states had established close economic ties with Cuba since the early 1800 s when Spanish Controlled
Cuba was a leading supplier of sugar cane and a thriving center for trade. Due to the Spanish
American war, there was not much trade going through Cuba, which crushed its economy. After the
Spanish American war, The victorious America entered an amendment in which it gave itself the right
to intervene in Cuban affairs going forward. Many American businesses invested in Cuba, which
eventually made Cuba largely owned by American companies and largely controlled by the American
government. By the 1950 s, Cuba seemed to have the highest standard of living in Latin America and
became a hot destination for tourists. Many people in Cuba did not believe that American involvement
was a positive thing and that although it brought a high standard of

What Is The Theme Of Psychology In Lord Of The Flies
In the movie Lord of the Flies, a group of boys become stranded on an island and have to survive until
someone comes to rescue them. Though they may seem like innocent school boys at first, many of
them soon regress into a barbaric way of life becoming hunters . With the island split in two, the
themes of personality theory, aggression, and adolescence become more prevalent. Focusing on Ralph,
Piggy, Jack and Simon, we can further delve into these topics.
In class, we studied Sigmund Freud s personality theory; the Id, ego, and superego combine to create
the behavior of humans. The Id is an unconscious part of our personalities that work to satisfy our
basic urges, needs and desires. In the movie, Jack, the leader of the hunters , is a perfect representation
of the Id. He is obsessed with hunting and killing, which are instinctual and primal. He and his group
accidentally kill Simon thinking he is a monster. Even though it was an accident, Jack shows no
remorse. Later on, his group purposely killed Piggy and again, he shows no remorse. He reasons that
everything he is doing is in order for him and his group to survive and is necessary. Instead of
cheering up the younger boys, he says You better start learning to live with yourself, because we ain t
gonna get rescued (Lord of the Flies). He sets in everyone s, except Ralph and Piggy s, minds that
they have to be in survival mode. Throughout the whole production, Jack was the human
representation of the minds Id.

Benefits Of Artificial Inseminating A Cow
Artificial insemination is a method of reproduction that allows beef producers to use bulls that have
superior genetics at an affordable price. Many producers of purebred and commercial beef cattle
profitably use artificial insemination in their cow herds and utilize artificial insemination to control
traits such as calving ease, milk production, and feed efficiency. Take my family for example; every
year we sync our show heifers estrus cycles together and artificially inseminate them. Artificial
insemination allows us to pick sound, purebred bulls with low birth weights, something that is ideal
for our show heifers. A successful artificial insemination program requires attention to detail, and
timing is crucial. Both a sound health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A CIDR is a T shaped device with flexible wings that move to form a rod to insert into the vagina, and
a tail is attached to make removal as easy as possible. The CIDR s nylon spine is covered with a
progesterone embedded silicone skin. The CIDR is inserted for seven days, which causes the female s
blood progesterone levels to rise rapidly, with maximum concentrations reached within an hour of
insertion. Progesterone levels are maintained at a constant level during the following week. When the
CIDR is removed, progesterone concentrations rapidly decrease. Caution should be taken when
handling CIDRs; always wear gloves to prevent exposure to progesterone and the introduction of
contaminants into the vaginas of other cows. The CIDR s greatest advantage is to facilitate fixed time
artificial insemination, where no estrus detection is necessary. The protocol is simple, but there are
some differences in timing for mature cows and young heifers. For all females, the CIDR is inserted
and a GnRH vaccine, such as Cystorelin or Factrel, is injected at the same time. Seven days later, the
CIDR is removed and the cow receives a prostaglandin F2 injection, such as Lutalyse. In mature cows,
artificial insemination should occur sixty to sixty six hours after CIDR removal, and a second GnRH
injection should be

Lesson number three is it is better to be a fox than a hedgehog . On the book, Silver expands this idea
and notes that a fox know many things because it s likely to intensely question itself and gather
information from a variety of sources. A hedgehog, on the other hand, will be more likely to rely on a
single source of conventional wisdom. This idea encourage us to be resourceful like a fox, so we can
be a more valuable contributor during the collaborative process. Collaboration is typically understood
as a process in which multiple people provide input .However, collaboration can also be performed on
an individual basis by collecting the information we need to shape to temper our projections and plans.
Lesson number four is polls become more accurate the closer you get to the Election Day . This idea
encourage us to continually update our forecast especially when we are approaching a decision point.
The farther into the future you forecast, the less accurate your forecasts are likely to be. The closer you
can update your forecasts to the point of decision, the more you improve your chances for accuracy.
But, we need to notice if we wait too long to share our forecasts in order to ensure maximum accuracy,
then we are defeating the purpose of the forecasting process. The optimal time to commit to a forecast
is when a decision has to be made based on that forecast. For example, a commitment to production or
to a purchase. We need

predict tornadoes through the measurement of temperature, air speed and pressure conditions to

A rain free base is a dark cumulous cloud base with no precipitation below it, rain free bases usually
mark the updraft of a thunderstorm. An inflow band is when low cumulus clouds start to outstretch
from the storm, when this usually happens, the storm will be starting to gather low level winds from
about 7 miles away, this shows that there may be a swirling motion happening. A beaver tail cloud is a
flat cloud that usually expands from the east edge of a rain free base, if the flat cloud goes around the
south edge of the rain free base, this may pose as a swirling motion. What is a wall cloud? Well, a wall
cloud is a cloud that is lowering while connected to the rain free base. Wall clouds produce tornadoes
that can last up to 10 20 minutes. A condensation funnel is made up of drops of water and once it starts
to extend down from the base of the thunderstorm, if ever it touches the ground it forms into a
tornado, if not, it is still a regular funnel. A rear flank downdraft is a rush of air that s going down

No Name Woman, By Maxine Hong Kingston
In No Name Woman , Maxine Hong Kingston discusses a story her mother shared with her. It is about
Kingston s aunt who, while her husband was in America, became pregnant and committed suicide the
day of her illegitimate child s birth. Also included in the story is a raid, undertaken by neighbors and
other villagers, on the aunt s family and home. In order to fully understand the story, it is necessary to
know the historical context. Taking place in 1920s China, the instability, importance of the family, and
attitude towards women impact the final essay. Without taking those three things into account, one
cannot properly analyze Kingston s work.
Before 1924, when the incident takes place, China suffered numerous hardships. There was, for
example, the first Sino Japanese War, which was followed by the Boxer Rebellion only a few years
later. Then, in the span of only a couple of years, the Manchu Restoration and the May Fourth
Movement begin and end. Both of these are attempts at creating a new form of government and are
two of several examples depicting the instability of that time. In addition to that was the rise of the
Communist Party and the constant political infighting within the Republic of China. Overall, ... Show

Confucian beliefs placed women as subservient to men overall. They were meant to obey others in
their family unit, especially their husband, and this belief was only strengthened with the rise of neo
Confucianism. Because the villagers held these ideals, and Kingston s aunt was married, the reaction
to her infidelity was harsh. It also explains why everyone in the family treated the story of Kingston s
aunt as inherently shameful. Kingston s mother, for instance, insisted that nobody else should know
what happened for fear of judgment. The attitude towards women is also why Kingston assumes that
her aunt s child was a girl if the child were a boy, there would have been some hope of

Essay on Big Bang Theory
There has been a lot of research done on the influence media can have on society, in particular the
degrading images of women that are often seen in media. Since the second wave of the women s rights
movements these images were the object of scrutiny and an easy example of how women were
viewed. In modern society where women have made many strides towards equality why are there still
instances in popular media were women are negatively depicted? Have women come as far as they
think? The popular sitcom The Big Bang Theory negatively depicts the female characters by reverting
to a binary view of gender, in which the female characters are lacking, they can be beautiful or smart
however they cannot be both.

As Giuliani was walking the streets he wanted to get in touch with the news to give out a statement

loved ones and were talking about their emergency plans, when three other people walked in the
station. They told them that two of the most experienced firemen had been killed when the buildings

The Rule Of Antoninus Plus ( C. Ce )
During the rule of Antoninus Plus (c. 138 161 CE), Romans began to favor burials over cremations
and the demand for sarcophagi grew rapidly (Kleiner 215). Greek mythology was heavily borrowed
upon by the Roman and prominent members of the Roman society wanted to be commemorated in the
fashion of Greek heroes. The Romans took the general principles of an Egyptian sarcophagus and
added Greek mythology to create a unique piece of Roman art and The Sarcophagus Depicting a
Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is one such example. The Egyptians were the
first to use a sarcophagus to bury and commemorate their dead, and judging from the war themed
artwork on this Roman sarcophagus, it was most likely built to commemorate the death of a great
warrior. The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is a
massive piece of Roman funerary art made of a hollowed out block of white marble around 140 170
CE. Weighing an impressive 5511.5 pounds, the sarcophagus is 40 ½ x 91 ½ x 50 ½ inches in
dimension and is comprised of a lid and casket (The Museum of Fine Arts). The identity of the
sculptor is unknown, and considering the careful attention detail on this impressive work of art, it is
possible that crafting the sarcophagus was the work of multiple sculptors. Unlike the Egyptians, who
preferred gold, the mineral of choice for the Romans was marble. Unlike most Egyptian sarcophagi,
which had a portrait of the dead on the lid, the lid of the

Michael and Tyler both realized how reliant the business is on technology and equipment and how
they must safeguard it for themselves and the customers and what liability issues they face if not done.
Issues:
The current situation presents itself with issue to consider, first, is the grand opening of the new
restaurant location and the continued smooth uninterrupted operation of the current restaurant, second,
is dealing with the safeguarding of their equipment and data and developing a plan on how this will be
accomplished. In looking deeper, regarding the point of sale system (POS) its servers and other
organizational data, what safety measures should be implemented for loss of power, password
protection, setting up firewalls to secure from hackers, recovery and mitigation. Not only does a
business need to protect themselves in these matters but consideration needs to be given on how to
protect the customers while using the restaurants Wi Fi, its website and social media portals and spell
out the terms of use so all parties involved are aware of the risks. In order to address some of these
matters a comprehensive Risk Management Analysis should be performed like the example shown in

questions you would have. Another matter needing to be addressed would be a Computer Resource

William Pitt Research Paper
Literature during the Eighteenth century helped shape and embody public opinion towards certain
political figures. This statement is particularly true in the examination of William Pitt 1st Earl of
Chatham and his Whig government, and the role literature had in evoking popular opinions towards
him and his party in the political classes. Literature in particular can be considered a good barometer
for understanding attitudes towards politics due to their intimate relationship. The Eighteenth century
saw a rise in a specific genre of literature, that was particularly focused on engaging in the political
discussions and debates of the time. This political literature became an important form of critiquing
and analysing certain political ideas and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1759 William Pitt had become a hugely popular figure due to his shepherding of British military
and imperial successes. He became a symbolic figure of Britain s military dominance and growth into
an imperial power. The success in the war had boosted Pitt s popularity, increasing his importance in
the Pitt Newcastle Government and further cementing his image as Patriot King figure. Popular
support for Pitt was reflected in the political literature and their support of his achievements. In 1757 a
political journal was published called The Constitution, with an address to a great man that was
dedicated directly to Pitt as the titular Great Man . This journal represents an overt celebration of
William Pitt, cannosing him as a significant and celebrated figure, that is emblematic of British
success. The journal is suggestive of the increasing support given to Pitt during the late 1750 s, and his
increasing role as a figure of popular admiration from the political classes. During this period of Pitt s
popularity, the more positive aspects of Pitt s image were strengthened, specifically his image of the
Great Commoner. This image emphasised Pitt s supposed honesty and integrity, as well as connection
to the political classes. This image became particularly evident in the literature of the late 1750 s, as it
strongly reinforced the popular understanding of his image. This can be seen in a Broadside Ballad
from 1763, named Excise A La Mode; or Sawney s Oeconomy. This ballad is indicative of the
literature of the late 1750 s and its portrayal of Pitt. This is the case because it draws on the positive
image of Pitt, that pervaded the late 1750 s. For example, in the ballad, Pitt is described as a good
peacemaker who charm(s) our allies. This description helps to maintain the ideal of Pitt s
magnanimity, as well as amplifying his charismatic

Fences by August Wilson
Throughout history, civilizations have built fences to keep enemies out and keep those they want to
protect inside. In society today, people create metaphorical fences in order to fence in their feelings,
while others create literal fences in order to keep the unwanted away. In the play Fences, the Maxon
family lives in 1950 s America whose love for sports and one another are questioned at times when
they need to be together the most. In the play Fences by August Wilson, two main characters Troy and
Cory Maxon build a fence, literally and metaphorically, which as the book progresses, becomes a
symbol that allows each character to truly understand each other. In Fences, Troy Maxon builds a
fence around his property that contains metaphorical reasons as well as the literal meaning. During a
conversation with Troy and Cory, Bono mentions the fence Troy is building for his wife Rose and says
Some people build fences to keep people out...and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose
wants to hold on to you all. She loves you (61). Bono explains this to Troy because Cory was unable
to comprehend why Rose wanted the fence up in the first place. This opens the reader up to the
symbolization of the fence itself. The fence allows Rose to keep Troy with her because she has loved
him for so many years and does not want to let him go or leave her for another woman. Later, in Act
two, Troy, after speaking to Rose about his new baby who he had with his mistress Alberta,

Solomon Asch Conformity Study
In 1951, Solomon Asch, a gestalt psychologist conducted an experiment regarding conformity. In this
experiment, Asch tested how an individual can be influenced by a group of people and their views.
Even though the test wasn t extremely crucial. The purpose was to measure how likely individuals in
this society are to conform to the majority. Throughout the experiment, Asch saw how an individual
responded based on the answers of the group. With this, he was able to demonstrate how likely we are
to conform when there is group pressure.
In this experiment, Asch conducted a lab to test the conformity of the participants. All fifty of the
participants were males and students from a college in the United States. To be able to identify the
percentage of individuals that could conform to the thoughts and ideas of the majority, Asch had to
deceive the participants. The experiment involved seven confederates, most of them had agreed on
what they were going to say before the experiment unlike the real participant. In each of the trials,
both the participants and the confederates were shown cards one would be a single line, while the
other was a card with a set of lines. The participants and the confederates were to pick a line that
looked like the single line on the other card. However, the participant would usually be the second to

Analysis Of A Court Of Thorns And Roses
What if you could live in the world of the faeries for all of your human life? A Court of Thorns and
Roses, by Sarah J Maas, is a gripping fantasy series about family, friendships, and of love. I picked up
this book as a suggestion from mom to pass time and 13 hours later I had a numb bottom and a
finished book in my hands. I was utterly hooked from the first page to the last. It is a compelling new
twist on the classic Beauty and the Beast storyline where the main character makes many sacrifices for
the betterment of her family, friends, and humanity itself. Ultimately falling in love with the wrong
person at the right time and then the right person at an even better time. The imaginative characters
come together to battle through epic trials and to conquer unspeakable odds. Maas uses her vivid
descriptions of beauty, sacrifice and true courage to enthrall the readers making it impossible to put
down. Maas s incorporation of mythology and folklore from our world into her book allows you to
build a personal relationship with the characters and a feeling of comradery. The BCCB reviews the
series as Elements from Beauty and the Beast, East o the Sun, West o the Moon, the myth of
Persephone, and the legend of Tamlin are seamlessly interwoven with clever allusions, while the faerie
world is resplendent in its initial beauty and then horrific in the brutality Feyre later encounters.

How Does Metamorphic Rocks Play A Role In The Formation Of...
Although convection current in the earth layer are closely associated with the movements of the
tectonic plates they also play a role in the formation of rocks, such as the igneous and metamorphic
rocks. Igneous rocks form through the solidification of magma or lava. This can occur in two different
places, on earth surface and under earth surface. Rocks that form on earth surface are called extrusive,
rocks that form under earth s surface are intrusive plutonic rocks. A Metamorphic rock is formed when
the protolithic rock is exposed to heat and pressure. There are also two different type of metamorphic
rocks contact and regional metamorphic rocks. The process of the formation of igneous rocks begin all
the way down in the Earth s mantle. The mantle consisted of hot magma that is constantly moving due
to the convection currents. Convection is the heat transfer of liquid and gases .As the bottom of the
mantle begin to heat up, the magma rises to the top because it becomes less dense. Once it reaches the
top it cools off and becomes more dense and fall back to the bottom and the cycle of convection begin

Terrorism has been creating havoc across the globe for the entirety of recorded history. Today, with the

a brioche style cake traditionally made throughout the State of Louisiana during the weeks prior to
Mardi Gras. The King Cake tradition is thought to have been brought to New Orleans from France in

In 1871, the tradition of choosing Queen of Mardi Gras was determined by who drew the prize within

maskers during the next two decades caused the press to call for an end to Mardi Gras. Fortunately, six

Story Of An Hour Tone Analysis
In the short story The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin uses tone to indicate to the reader what she is
trying to tell the audience. Kate Chopin uses a variety of tone in the short story through Mrs. Mallard
who is the protagonist in the story. In the short story The Story of an Hour, the authors describe
several tones such cruel, positive, and mysterious tone throughout the story. Kate Chopin wrote the
short story between 1800 s to 1900 s, as seen in the text ...truth by a second telegram (Chopin 179). As
indicated in the quote the telegrams were used during that period which meant, that women didn t
have as many rights, and they had to follow what their husband told them to do. As seen in the text
when Mrs. Mallard finds out about her husband she cries, she wept as once, with sudden, wild
abandonment, in her sister s arms (Chopin 179). This shows that Mrs. Mallard loves her husband;
however, she has no freedom. She could not do what she wanted and always had to obey her husband,
so her life wasn t the way she wanted. Kate Chopin expresses the tone as cruel through Mr. Mallard
and audiences point of view. Furthermore, Kate Chopin uses the tone free, which meant to be freedom
for Mrs. Mallard. After the news of Mr. Mallard death, Kate Chopin states, She could see in the open

What Is The Theme Of Mushrooms By Sylvia Plath
A quiet revolution: perhaps oxymoronic sounding upon first glance. However, the poem Mushrooms
by Sylvia Plath paints a picture of a story about exactly that, doing so through a subtle metaphor and
simple but powerful visual imagery. Though a poem about the oppression of a group of people, it does
not tell a story of despair. In fact, it s quite the opposite, speaking instead of an uprising of a different
sort, of a hope as modest as the mushrooms themselves.
Mushrooms may seem at first like a very peculiar thing to base an entire poem around. However, the
author leaves scattered hints throughout the stanzas that this may be about more than a bunch of timid
fungi. The first hint of this is in the second stanza: our toes, our noses / take ... Show more content on

Talk of how they were earless and voiceless certainly doesn t seem to paint a particularly cheerful
picture. And though I agree that cheerful wouldn t be an appropriate adjective to use, there is a
glimmer of hope poking out like the cap of a mushroom at dusk that, once grasped, becomes the
dominant mood. Picking out specific lines from the poem, you can tell that this is a poem of triumph,
one disguised as a story of oppression much like how the simple mushrooms are disguised as soft and
non intimidating. Nobody sees us / stops us, betrays us / the small grains make room. These lines on
stanza three show the beginning of the mushrooms presence on the Earth, as grains of dirt part to let
them through. This is only the first indication of the beginning of a revolution. One that only grows as
they grow, So many of us! So many of us! the author cheers in stanza eight. By sheer number and by
sheer will, the mushrooms continue to take over unnoticed, unannounced. And by the poem s end, a
battle had been won. And this is naturally something to take pride in. A quiet pride, as it is in the
mushroom s nature to be humble. But pride

Experimental And Analytical Studies Have Increased...
Introduction 1: Over the past quarter century, the number of both experimental and analytical studies
have increased dramatically on the monotonic axial behavior of FRP confined concrete columns, and
as a result, many uniaxial stress strain models have been generally developed; however, most of these
studies have focused largely on FRP confined circular plain (unreinforced) concrete cylinders
numerous authors tested (e.g., Mirmiran and Shahawy 1997;Mirmiran et al.1998; Xiao and Wu 2000;

However, the number of studies on the axial stress strain behavior of FRP confined RC columns
subjected to a cyclic axial compression loading has been going up slowly, particularly for noncircular

, Research is more limited on the cyclic axial stress strain behavior of FRP confined rectangular

Effects Of Colonization In Nigeria
What happened in the country during colonization?
The British empire began invading Nigeria, by creating conflicts between diverse ethnic groups to
intentionally break down the group into insignificant clusters that had little, or no impact on the
country s legislative branch. The implemented strategy is known as the divide and rule policy, which
assisted to prevent any united opposition against Britain. Later, the British government gained control
over the Royal Niger Company s territories and eventually, Northern Nigeria was under the Britain
protectorate. By 1901, Nigeria was completely under the British power which accompanied many
changes to the country. Education, language, and religion were assimilated to fit the desires of the
British empire. English became one of the major languages in the country and Christianity spread
rapidly; although some Islamic scholars resisted the religion. During the colonization of Nigeria, a
new monetary and transportation system was developed and two tiers of government evolved; central
and local. The new monetary system consisted of coins and notes rather than trading goods, and the
local Nigerians were instructed to build a railway across the country which made the transportation of
raw materials more efficient and cheaper. The Central government was in authority of governor
general, and local government was based on the policy directed by the colonies to ensure that
indigenous leaders were educated on the new policies, that were

The Impact Of Marketing On The Athletic Apparel Market
ted product.
Threat of New Entrants is low since the growth rate is expanding in the athletic apparel market and
existing industry members are actively reaching into product segments or geographic areas where they
do not have a strong presence. There is an entry barriers for new entrants in building a retail
distribution, a large reliable supply chain, and securing contracts for endorsements and promotions.
The other companies are established and credible brands that work on global scales. A smaller
company would most likely not gain enough traction in this already competitive market to stay
relevant even if they selected niche markets since the established companies cater to such a wide
demographic of customers. (David 144).
Other clothing brands have the ability to start manufacturing athletic apparel to take away market
share and diversify their portfolio. Thus, existing apparel companies could enter the performance
apparel market if they decide to invest capital for advertising and building product demand. Under
Armour has weak patent protection over its product; hence, there is a threat of different unexpected
entrants who want to reiterate on their proven formula. Overall, the threat is less imperative to their
continued success since other issues are more pertinent and likely.
Industry Rivalry is moderate since competitive pressures are fierce Under Armour has considerably
smaller resources pools to leverage in gaining market share. Under Armour is facing giant

Essay on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Born a Prince, Left a King
Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down, and I d like to take a
minute, just sit right there, I ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel air. These are the
opening lines to the intro song of the television comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel Air , that me and
every 90 s kids with a TV has had memorized since the day we first heard it. Even as you read that
first sentence, you can t help but to rap the words, and hum the tune as you envision a young Will
Smith spinning on his royal chair with the graffiti background. The effect of the lyrics and the music
video to this intro song goes way beyond pure entertainment value. The music video and lyrics spread
happiness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By making Will Smith appear like a typical, credible African American youth the appeal to the
viewers is strengthened.
However, the stereotypes are not the only example for ethos in the music video. Will s clothing and
vernacular make a good case for ethical appeal as well. Throughout the video Will is dressed in loud
bright colored clothing with various trendy accessories such as hats and sneakers. The clothing helps
Will to appeal to the younger viewers because it s something the viewers can identify with. Also Will s
upbeat tone and hipster lingo help his credibility of acting as an average young black male.
While ethos plays a large role in the appeal of the video, pathos plays a role equally as large. The
pathological appeal in the music video is present from start to finish. The video opens with a
background soundtrack of an upbeat rap tune. The tune is catchy and grabs the viewer s attention
immediately. Will Smith compliments the catchy beat by rapping an energetic rap. The rap itself
demands for viewers attention because it appeals to their taste in music.
Whereas music is the main avenue of appeal in the video, there are other pathos elements present.
While Will is playing basketball, the ball accidently hits a nearby thug who takes offense and
physically confronts Will. The thug threatens and bullies Will until Will s mom gets so scared for Will
s well being that she sends him to live his aunt and uncle in Bel Air. Nearly every kid in

Personal Narrative-The Injury
The Injury I felt pain. It was a gloomy Thursday night with a teeny breeze. It was about 7:00 pm. My
sister Mia and I were practicing our gymnastics skills in my cold basement with the finished, yellow
walls and the soft, brown carpet. I could hear the thud of the feet against the floor when she landed her
back handsprings, while I watched her. Her hands bounced off the floor like she was on a trampoline. I
thought I want to be able to do a back handspring just like Mia. Mia, can you help me try to be able to
do my back handspring? I asked her. Sure! she replied joyfully. She got up and showed me how to do
it. I can do that. It doesn t look that hard I thought. I stood up and start warming up my backbends. My
hands sunk into the carpet when they touched the ground. I finished warming up and I was ready to
try! Mia put her hand behind my back and cheerfully encouraged me. Try it! She said merrily. I swing
my arms back and do a handstand. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I tried to explain that I was going to try again but I did another handstand. I kept doing handstands
until now. I am actually going to do a back handspring now, I told Mia. I swung my arms back shakily
and do another handstand. Meanwhile, Mia thought I was doing a back handspring. My hands slipped
of the soft, brown carpet while she flipped me over. Silence. For a few seconds there is no sound.
CRACK! I felt pain. My left arm hurt like if someone snapped my bone in half. That was the only
sound in the room. Then screaming and the rushing of my feet filled the basement with noise. I
sprinted upstairs and my dad raced downstairs to see what was wrong. He laid me on the soft, warm
couch. Are you okay? he asked worriedly. No I thought in my head but the words couldn t come out of
my mouth I was crying so

Analysis Of The Movie Booker
Booker, 18, was out job searching, trying to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. He kept
trying to find a job to help out his mom since she was getting old and sick. Booker s father was one of
the 900 dead in the First Battle of Bull Run. His older brothers were out already fighting in the war
and were sending money to their own wives. But Booker never liked violence. He was a pacifist.
Everywhere he kept hearing to just join the army, go to war, that s what all his friends did. But after
weeks of not being able to find work, he was forced into the war due to the draft. Booker never left
New York in his life; it was his home. Booker had no choice but to go to war; his mother needed
money and he didn t have the money to get out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The journey took weeks and food was running short along with water. All the men were getting tired
of the constant marching, the gear was getting heavy, and the hot sun wasn t helping them at all. To
Booker s surprise, some of the men already went down due to these terrible living conditions.
They finally met with the confederates in the Henrico County, Virginia for the Battle of Fair Oaks.
Booker went to take a position secluded from as many people as he can, hoping that he wouldn t have
to kill anyone. He was up on a slightly elevated part behind a few trees laying down, watching as the
men got closer to each other. Finally after they reached a position close enough to each other, the
battle began. Booker couldn t believe how loud it was. He turned away and heard the screams of men
getting shot. He heard the artillery being fired and crashing down on a group of soldiers. He didn t
know what to do. Booker never wanted to fire his gun. Eventually he looked back through the rifle
and saw a bullet fly into one of his fellow soldier s head; the bullet entered the man s head and was
stuck there. Booker saw the pieces of the man s skull flying through the air, blood running down his
head, Booker even heard his screams. Booker threw up immediately afterwards. Eventually Booker
finally was able to look through the sniper scope again. He saw hundreds lying there, dead. Some
were lying and screaming for help. He saw medicals group rushing

An Argument In Shakespeare s Work
Therefore, Edward De Vere is a strong contender s an alternative writer to Shakespearean work.
Although Earl De Vere is the most likely candidate to have authored Shakespeare s work, there are
other alternative possibilities such as Francis Bacon and a group of individual writers. Francis Bacon
was a famous philosopher of this time period, who kept company and traveled with other well
educated aristocrats. (bbcamerica.com) Bacon s travels as well as his social rank make him a notable
contender as an alternate writer of Shakespearean plays. As a leading figure of the English
Renaissance, he certainly had the biography for it: educated at Cambridge, widely traveled, Bacon was
a famous philosopher, one of the inventors of the scientific method, ... Show more content on

These believers cite important counter arguments supporting William Shakespeare as the true author.
For instance, No Elizabethan documents support the claim that Shakespeare s plays and poems were
written by someone else, or that the actor Shakespeare was not the author Shakespeare. (shakespeare
online.com) Clearly, the evidence doubting Shakespeare s authorship has no clear backing emanating
from the Elizabethan period when Shakespeare was alive rather it was a theory started well after
Shakespeare s passing. A more specific counter argument concentrates on the number one alternate to
William Shakespeare Edward De Vere 17th Earl of Oxford. In examining, the historical data, the dates
do not support the theory that the Earl of Oxford wrote all of Shakespeare s work. Oxford died in
1604, and significant evidence indicates that some of Shakespeare s work was produced years later.
(For instance, The Tempest was influenced by a voyage to the Americas that did not occur until 1610).
(news.psu.edu). This is convincing evidence that the Earl of Oxford did not write all of Shakespeare
since the Earl of Oxford s death predates many references seen in Shakespearean

Examples Of Integrity In The Great Gatsby
Nowadays, the word integrity is continually utilized to clarify the character in the literature. Integrity
by the definition in the Cambridge dictionary is: the quality of being honest . As the dictionary
indicates, usually, a lot of people utilize integrity as a synonym for the honesty, but in my opinion, the
word integrity implies much more than fair being honest. American media proprietor Oprah Winfrey
said: Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody s going to know whether you did it
or not. Hence, having integrity means doing the right thing in a reliable way by following own moral
or ethical convictions in all circumstances, indeed in the event that no one is watching. As taking after

You re worth the whole damn bunch put together. The line shows Nick s disenchantment with the
wealthy east coast habitat and later that night, Nick stayed outside of the Buchanans house while
waiting for a taxi back to West Egg, too disgusted with their behavior to go inside and join them since
he was the only person who pities her death and has integrity. Indeed, the clear integrity of Nick is
perceived at the end of the novel. After Gatsby s death, Nick struggled to arrange the funeral since he
alone is moved by Gatsby s death. At that point, he said, They were careless people, Tom and Daisy
they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into the money of their vast carelessness,
or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made. The
quote indicates how materialistic Tom and Daisy are. They are debased by their wealth and perception
of things that lead them to be careless. Likewise,

With European, African, and Indigenous peoples influences, Brazil has become a melting pot of ethnicities, religions, and cultures. It is made up of 26 states and has a total population of 205,823,665 people. The two largest ethnic groups are White at 47.7 percent and mulatto (mixed white and black) at 43.1 percent of the population. Most of the population lives on the east coast, specifically the cities of Sao Paulo, Brasilia, and Rio de Janeiro, and they live under a federal presidential republic government. The official language of Brazil is Portuguese, but there are less common languages spoken such as Spanish, English, German, Italian, and other Amerindian languages. The average age is 31.6 years old, and the gender ratio is relatively equal throughout each age group. The birth rate is 14.3 births/1,000 population, and the death rate is 6.6 deaths/1,000 population. These statistics produce a population growth rate of 0.75%. Surprisingly, 90% of the population has some religious association. There are many different religions in Brazil, but the two largest religious groups are Roman Catholics that make up 64.6% and Protestant that make up 22.2%. Other religions consist of Judaism, Buddism, and Jehovah Witnesses (cia.gov, 2016). One would think that since Brazil is a melting pot of different people, there wouldn t be any major social ... • 3. Advantages Of Diversity-Conscious Leadership Diversity Conscious Leadership (APA Citation) The United States is a diverse nation with citizens originating from every other nation on Earth. Despite this diversity, Americans have only recently begun to identify diversity as a integral part of the workplace; and put into practice programs to diversify, and therefore, maximize efficiency and production. However, simply diversifying the workplace, or any other place for that matter, will not automatically increase the efficiency of workers. It requires a diversity conscious leader who has been trained and experienced in such matters to make diversity an asset in the workplace. Diversity leadership has been defined as ways in which people and groups relate to one another and how management [leadership] decisions are made in the midst of the differences, similarities, and tensions among groups. (Lim, Cho, Curry, 2008) And in order to accomplish this, a good leader must know the difference between the assimilation and inclusion. Assimilation takes a diverse group and homogenizes them, while inclusion maintains the individual differences between people and capitalizes on those differences for the benefit of all. For instance, instilling a goal oriented sense of identity allows for each individual to maintain their uniqueness, while coming together to accomplish the goal. It is the goal that each individual concentrates on, not the differences between the members of the group. Also, a good leader will facilitate good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of Dante s Divine Comedy Victoria Ward Mrs. Bauerle English 12 22 December 2016 Purgatory Purgatory is part number two in Dante s Divine Comedy . This was written in 1300. Although the story is rather ancient and rare, when looking at the spiritual story with a logical mindset it has the ability to connect with today. The connection I was able to find behind Dante s work of art was the psychological and geographical impact. The Divine Comedy contains real life morals; Dante s work is far more than just a spiritual afterlife poem series. For example, he shows that any journey is full of trial and error, various beliefs, and hidden lessons. The divine comedy consists of three parts; The Inferno , Purgatorio , and Paradisio . The inferno is all different levels of hell and all of the seven deadly sins. Dante meets his guide virgil here who is with him throughout the entire Divine Comedy. Virgil is the one who takes him on the journey through hell. The circles of hell starting with circle one are Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, and Fraud. In each circle, Dante meets someone new who then explains their story and background of how they got there. Each level has different punishments. After they finish their journey they get to the second part; Purgatorio. Purgatory is for the saved who purged their sins. Purgatory is where they prepare themselves to become worthy of God. The only difference is that Purgatory is only temporary. This is also, where Dante recognizes many old ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

California Raffle Regulations Essay California Raffle Regulations It s legal for nonprofit organizations (NGO) to hold raffles in California, either for the raise of funds or for charitable purposes. At least 90% of the proceedings from ticket sales must either be used in the organization s interest, or be donated to one or more charities that are established in California. Prior to holding any raffles, an NGO must first register Attorney General s Registry of Charitable Trusts. According to the Penal Code, section 320.5, NGOs can only register with the trust if they have qualified to conduct business for at least 1 year in the state of California. The remaining 10% can be used by the organizing party for raffle related expenses. Due to this rule, it is very hard for organizations to offer substantial prizes based solely on ticket proceeds. A solution to this rule can be found in prize donations. Joseph Conrad s novella, Heart of Darkness, describes a life altering journey that the protagonist, Marlow, experiences in the African Congo. The story explores the historical period of colonialism in Africa to exemplify Marlow s struggles. Marlow, like other Europeans of his time, is brought up to believe certain things about colonialism, but his views change as he experiences colonialism first hand. This essay will explore Marlow s view of colonialism, which is shaped through his experiences and also from his relation to Kurtz. Marlow s understanding of Kurtz s experiences show him the effects colonialism can have on a man s soul. In Europe, colonialism was emphasized as being a great and noble cause. He says the Romans were conquerors and not colonialists, and explains that what saves the colonialist is the devotion to efficiency and the unselfish belief in the idea (pg.65 66). Yet throughout the novel, Marlow s personal experiences show how colonialism was just that, the robbing of Africa for ivory and profit by Europeans. He ascertains that there were no improvement in Africa like the Europeans claimed, unless the body of a middle aged negro, with a bullet hole in the forehead...may be considered improvement (pg.81). This notion of extreme physical violence is something that threads its way through the novella. The above epitomizes what Marlow thinks about what colonialism really brought to Africa. Some Europeans may have genuinely believed in the idea of colonialism as being noble, but this belief in the idea cannot save the horrible actions of colonialism or make them acceptable. Indeed this false belief in an idea, rather then the practicalities of colonialism only aids to brutality of such actions. Furthermore at the time of the writing of this novella, approximately within the 1800 s, exploration was seen as a wonderful adventure and the period of mapping out the world was well under way. • 10. Mindfulness As A Treatment For Depression Psychology is one of the youngest lines of science and there is still a lot to be learnt about it. Before the use of anti depressants, one of the first treatments used by psychologists was psychoanalysis which was founded by Sigmund Freud in 1852. Then later treatments such as electroconvulsive therapy formally known as electro shock therapy were used. Currently the most common treatment for depression is medication such as antidepressants as they are proven to be extremely effective in treating the symptoms of this mental illness. However even though there are so many treatments for mental illnesses such as depression the biggest issue we face with depression is its habit of being a reoccurring problem. The purpose of this essay is to discuss mindfulness as a treatment for depression. In the essay not only its effectiveness towards the treatment and prevention of depression but also how it treats and prevents depression is discussed. This was until psychologists found a more effective way to not only treat but prevent the symptoms of depression using mindfulness as a therapy. Although, mindfulness is not a very well known treatment it has been found to be very effective of turning the lives around of sufferers of mental illness. This due to certain developments that made it more difficult to come to a good approach of a cost function. Based on the cost function, developed in this tutorial, there will be an answer provided on the question whether is it efficient to allow competition on the tracks. First we will define a cost function related to the NS. Then we will describe the important variables. After defining the cost function, the relevance of the cost function will be explained. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The type of production function is as follows Y=f(X), where Y is the maximum produced outputs and X is the given inputs. For every unit of input there is a price g related to it. As said earlier if the company has a cost minimizing strategy then the earlier type can be written as follows: Min∑▒〖Xg〗^ The results of the above type gives as the cost function for every level of Y given the input prices g. So the type for the cost function is C= h(Y,g). In the case where the firm does not follow a cost minimizing strategy it is preferable for the company to calculate a cost output relation. In other words it is better to sum the costs and relate them to the input so that it can easily predict the effect of changes in output levels on total cost. The reason for not taking into account all the variables is that in the case of a public firm if we calculate many unnecessary variables then we will have a higher variance of the estimated parameters of the necessary variables. In this case our results will be biased as if the goal of the company is to minimize cost and we were missing data e.g. the input prices. The most important step in producing the cost function is the estimation of its parameters. The most common form that is used for the calculation of production function is the Cobb Douglas form. Cobb Douglas is a linear function and has many restrictions as the assumption that all elasticities of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Christopher Columbus And The Era Of The Americas Many people think of Christopher Columbus as the person who discovered the Americas. However, Leif Ericson, a Norseman or Viking, was the first European to see the Americas. Columbus was born to Domenico Colombo and Susanna Fontanarossa sometime between August 25 and October 31, 1451 in Italy near Genoa (Heat Moon 4). Columbus had four other siblings (Phillips 64). Columbus childhood was a tough one, even though he had a great parental guidance. Columbus grew up in a medieval world exhausted by war and bigotries, religious corruption and intolerance, a time of widespread spiritual dissolution and social pessimism, a continent deeply in need of a rebirth (Heat Moon 5). The era of which Columbus lived in was really in need of a make over. The way people acted, their decisions, and the changes in their religion were not acceptable to any standard. That time period was very boring and depressing and it was difficult to be happy. Christopher spent some of his early years at his father s trade of weaving and later he became a sailor on the Mediterranean [Sea] ( Christopher Columbus ). By the time he was 31 or 32, Christopher had become a master mariner in the Portuguese Merchant Service ( Christopher Columbus ). Later in life, Columbus had married Doña Felipa Perestrello o Moníz (Heat Moon 7). • 14. Cuban Missile Crisis By Bryce Faber Cuban Missile Crisis Bryce Faber The Cuban Missile crisis in October of 1962 was the closest the world has ever come to nuclear war. Over thirteen October days, the U.S. and the Soviet Union faced off over Nuclear missile sites found on Cuba 90 miles from the Florida shore. These two world superpowers locked horns in what became known as the Cold War. The Cuban Missile crisis was the climactic showdown in which John F. Kennedy and Nikita Krushchev Made decisions that would affect the fate of all mankind and the wrong one could end the world as we know it. Before the rise of Cuban communism, the United states had established close economic ties with Cuba since the early 1800 s when Spanish Controlled Cuba was a leading supplier of sugar cane and a thriving center for trade. Due to the Spanish American war, there was not much trade going through Cuba, which crushed its economy. After the Spanish American war, The victorious America entered an amendment in which it gave itself the right to intervene in Cuban affairs going forward. Many American businesses invested in Cuba, which eventually made Cuba largely owned by American companies and largely controlled by the American government. • 15. What Is The Theme Of Psychology In Lord Of The Flies In the movie Lord of the Flies, a group of boys become stranded on an island and have to survive until someone comes to rescue them. Though they may seem like innocent school boys at first, many of them soon regress into a barbaric way of life becoming hunters . With the island split in two, the themes of personality theory, aggression, and adolescence become more prevalent. Focusing on Ralph, Piggy, Jack and Simon, we can further delve into these topics. In class, we studied Sigmund Freud s personality theory; the Id, ego, and superego combine to create the behavior of humans. The Id is an unconscious part of our personalities that work to satisfy our basic urges, needs and desires. In the movie, Jack, the leader of the hunters , is a perfect representation of the Id. He is obsessed with hunting and killing, which are instinctual and primal. He and his group accidentally kill Simon thinking he is a monster. Even though it was an accident, Jack shows no remorse. Later on, his group purposely killed Piggy and again, he shows no remorse. He reasons that everything he is doing is in order for him and his group to survive and is necessary. Instead of cheering up the younger boys, he says You better start learning to live with yourself, because we ain t gonna get rescued (Lord of the Flies). He sets in everyone s, except Ralph and Piggy s, minds that they have to be in survival mode. Throughout the whole production, Jack was the human representation of the minds Id. ... Take my family for example; every year we sync our show heifers estrus cycles together and artificially inseminate them. The CIDR is inserted for seven days, which causes the female s blood progesterone levels to rise rapidly, with maximum concentrations reached within an hour of insertion. Progesterone levels are maintained at a constant level during the following week. When the CIDR is removed, progesterone concentrations rapidly decrease. Caution should be taken when handling CIDRs; always wear gloves to prevent exposure to progesterone and the introduction of contaminants into the vaginas of other cows. The CIDR s greatest advantage is to facilitate fixed time artificial insemination, where no estrus detection is necessary. The protocol is simple, but there are some differences in timing for mature cows and young heifers. For all females, the CIDR is inserted and a GnRH vaccine, such as Cystorelin or Factrel, is injected at the same time. This idea encourage us to be resourceful like a fox, so we can be a more valuable contributor during the collaborative process. The farther into the future you forecast, the less accurate your forecasts are likely to be. The closer you can update your forecasts to the point of decision, the more you improve your chances for accuracy. But, we need to notice if we wait too long to share our forecasts in order to ensure maximum accuracy, then we are defeating the purpose of the forecasting process. • 22. No Name Woman, By Maxine Hong Kingston In No Name Woman , Maxine Hong Kingston discusses a story her mother shared with her. It is about Kingston s aunt who, while her husband was in America, became pregnant and committed suicide the day of her illegitimate child s birth. Also included in the story is a raid, undertaken by neighbors and other villagers, on the aunt s family and home. In order to fully understand the story, it is necessary to know the historical context. Taking place in 1920s China, the instability, importance of the family, and attitude towards women impact the final essay. Without taking those three things into account, one cannot properly analyze Kingston s work. Before 1924, when the incident takes place, China suffered numerous hardships. There was, for example, the first Sino Japanese War, which was followed by the Boxer Rebellion only a few years later. Then, in the span of only a couple of years, the Manchu Restoration and the May Fourth Movement begin and end. Both of these are attempts at creating a new form of government and are two of several examples depicting the instability of that time. In addition to that was the rise of the Communist Party and the constant political infighting within the Republic of China. Overall, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also explains why everyone in the family treated the story of Kingston s aunt as inherently shameful. Kingston s mother, for instance, insisted that nobody else should know what happened for fear of judgment. The attitude towards women is also why Kingston assumes that her aunt s child was a girl if the child were a boy, there would have been some hope of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the second wave of the women s rights movements these images were the object of scrutiny and an easy example of how women were viewed. In modern society where women have made many strides towards equality why are there still instances in popular media were women are negatively depicted? Have women come as far as they think? • 25. The Rule Of Antoninus Plus ( C. Ce ) During the rule of Antoninus Plus (c. 138 161 CE), Romans began to favor burials over cremations and the demand for sarcophagi grew rapidly (Kleiner 215). Greek mythology was heavily borrowed upon by the Roman and prominent members of the Roman society wanted to be commemorated in the fashion of Greek heroes. The Romans took the general principles of an Egyptian sarcophagus and added Greek mythology to create a unique piece of Roman art and The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is one such example. The Egyptians were the first to use a sarcophagus to bury and commemorate their dead, and judging from the war themed artwork on this Roman sarcophagus, it was most likely built to commemorate the death of a great warrior. The Sarcophagus Depicting a Battle between Soldiers and Amazons (Warrior Women) is a massive piece of Roman funerary art made of a hollowed out block of white marble around 140 170 CE. Weighing an impressive 5511.5 pounds, the sarcophagus is 40 ½ x 91 ½ x 50 ½ inches in dimension and is comprised of a lid and casket (The Museum of Fine Arts). The identity of the sculptor is unknown, and considering the careful attention detail on this impressive work of art, it is possible that crafting the sarcophagus was the work of multiple sculptors. Unlike the Egyptians, who preferred gold, the mineral of choice for the Romans was marble. Unlike most Egyptian sarcophagi, which had a portrait of the dead on the lid, the lid of the ... This statement is particularly true in the examination of William Pitt 1st Earl of Chatham and his Whig government, and the role literature had in evoking popular opinions towards him and his party in the political classes. Literature in particular can be considered a good barometer for understanding attitudes towards politics due to their intimate relationship. By 1759 William Pitt had become a hugely popular figure due to his shepherding of British military and imperial successes. He became a symbolic figure of Britain s military dominance and growth into an imperial power. The success in the war had boosted Pitt s popularity, increasing his importance in the Pitt Newcastle Government and further cementing his image as Patriot King figure. Popular support for Pitt was reflected in the political literature and their support of his achievements. In 1757 a political journal was published called The Constitution, with an address to a great man that was dedicated directly to Pitt as the titular Great Man . This journal represents an overt celebration of William Pitt, cannosing him as a significant and celebrated figure, that is emblematic of British success. The journal is suggestive of the increasing support given to Pitt during the late 1750 s, and his increasing role as a figure of popular admiration from the political classes. During this period of Pitt s popularity, the more positive aspects of Pitt s image were strengthened, specifically his image of the Great Commoner. This image emphasised Pitt s supposed honesty and integrity, as well as connection to the political classes. This image became particularly evident in the literature of the late 1750 s, as it strongly reinforced the popular understanding of his image. This can be seen in a Broadside Ballad from 1763, named Excise A La Mode; or Sawney s Oeconomy. This ballad is indicative of the literature of the late 1750 s and its portrayal of Pitt. This is the case because it draws on the positive image of Pitt, that pervaded the late 1750 s. For example, in the ballad, Pitt is described as a good peacemaker who charm(s) our allies. • 28. Fences by August Wilson Throughout history, civilizations have built fences to keep enemies out and keep those they want to protect inside. In society today, people create metaphorical fences in order to fence in their feelings, while others create literal fences in order to keep the unwanted away. In the play Fences, the Maxon family lives in 1950 s America whose love for sports and one another are questioned at times when they need to be together the most. In the play Fences by August Wilson, two main characters Troy and Cory Maxon build a fence, literally and metaphorically, which as the book progresses, becomes a symbol that allows each character to truly understand each other. In Fences, Troy Maxon builds a fence around his property that contains metaphorical reasons as well as the literal meaning. During a conversation with Troy and Cory, Bono mentions the fence Troy is building for his wife Rose and says Some people build fences to keep people out...and other people build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you (61). Bono explains this to Troy because Cory was unable to comprehend why Rose wanted the fence up in the first place. This opens the reader up to the symbolization of the fence itself. The fence allows Rose to keep Troy with her because she has loved him for so many years and does not want to let him go or leave her for another woman. The purpose was to measure how likely individuals in this society are to conform to the majority. Throughout the experiment, Asch saw how an individual responded based on the answers of the group. With this, he was able to demonstrate how likely we are to conform when there is group pressure. In this experiment, Asch conducted a lab to test the conformity of the participants. All fifty of the participants were males and students from a college in the United States. To be able to identify the percentage of individuals that could conform to the thoughts and ideas of the majority, Asch had to deceive the participants. A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J Maas, is a gripping fantasy series about family, friendships, and of love. I picked up this book as a suggestion from mom to pass time and 13 hours later I had a numb bottom and a finished book in my hands. I was utterly hooked from the first page to the last. It is a compelling new twist on the classic Beauty and the Beast storyline where the main character makes many sacrifices for the betterment of her family, friends, and humanity itself. Ultimately falling in love with the wrong person at the right time and then the right person at an even better time. The imaginative characters come together to battle through epic trials and to conquer unspeakable odds. Maas uses her vivid descriptions of beauty, sacrifice and true courage to enthrall the readers making it impossible to put down. Maas s incorporation of mythology and folklore from our world into her book allows you to build a personal relationship with the characters and a feeling of comradery. The BCCB reviews the series as Elements from Beauty and the Beast, East o the Sun, West o the Moon, the myth of Persephone, and the legend of Tamlin are seamlessly interwoven with clever allusions, while the faerie world is resplendent in its initial beauty and then horrific in the brutality Feyre later encounters. However, the poem Mushrooms by Sylvia Plath paints a picture of a story about exactly that, doing so through a subtle metaphor and simple but powerful visual imagery. Though a poem about the oppression of a group of people, it does not tell a story of despair. In fact, it s quite the opposite, speaking instead of an uprising of a different sort, of a hope as modest as the mushrooms themselves. In fact , Research is more limited on the cyclic axial stress strain behavior of FRP confined rectangular reinforced concrete columns of large scale, unlike several cited articles that previously explored the influence of the cyclic axial loading on the behavior of FRP confined unreinforced concrete specimens including cylinders and noncircular specimens of small size many researchers tested (e.g., Shao et al. 2006; Lam et al. 2006; Lam and Teng 2009; Abbasnia and Ziaadiny 2010; Abbasnia et al.2012a,b; Abbasnia and Holakoo 2012; Ozbakkaloglu and Akin 2012;Abbasnia et al. 2013; Bai et al. 2013; Harajli et al. 2015). • 42. Effects Of Colonization In Nigeria What happened in the country during colonization? The British empire began invading Nigeria, by creating conflicts between diverse ethnic groups to intentionally break down the group into insignificant clusters that had little, or no impact on the country s legislative branch. The implemented strategy is known as the divide and rule policy, which assisted to prevent any united opposition against Britain. Later, the British government gained control over the Royal Niger Company s territories and eventually, Northern Nigeria was under the Britain protectorate. By 1901, Nigeria was completely under the British power which accompanied many changes to the country. Education, language, and religion were assimilated to fit the desires of the British empire. English became one of the major languages in the country and Christianity spread rapidly; although some Islamic scholars resisted the religion. During the colonization of Nigeria, a new monetary and transportation system was developed and two tiers of government evolved; central and local. The new monetary system consisted of coins and notes rather than trading goods, and the local Nigerians were instructed to build a railway across the country which made the transportation of raw materials more efficient and cheaper. The Central government was in authority of governor general, and local government was based on the policy directed by the colonies to ensure that indigenous leaders were educated on the new policies, that were ... • 43. The Impact Of Marketing On The Athletic Apparel Market ted product. Threat of New Entrants is low since the growth rate is expanding in the athletic apparel market and existing industry members are actively reaching into product segments or geographic areas where they do not have a strong presence. There is an entry barriers for new entrants in building a retail distribution, a large reliable supply chain, and securing contracts for endorsements and promotions. The other companies are established and credible brands that work on global scales. A smaller company would most likely not gain enough traction in this already competitive market to stay relevant even if they selected niche markets since the established companies cater to such a wide demographic of customers. (David 144). Other clothing brands have the ability to start manufacturing athletic apparel to take away market share and diversify their portfolio. Thus, existing apparel companies could enter the performance apparel market if they decide to invest capital for advertising and building product demand. Under Armour has weak patent protection over its product; hence, there is a threat of different unexpected entrants who want to reiterate on their proven formula. Overall, the threat is less imperative to their continued success since other issues are more pertinent and likely. Industry Rivalry is moderate since competitive pressures are fierce Under Armour has considerably smaller resources pools to leverage in gaining market share. Under Armour is facing giant ... These are the opening lines to the intro song of the television comedy The Fresh Prince of Bel Air , that me and every 90 s kids with a TV has had memorized since the day we first heard it. Even as you read that first sentence, you can t help but to rap the words, and hum the tune as you envision a young Will Smith spinning on his royal chair with the graffiti background. By making Will Smith appear like a typical, credible African American youth the appeal to the viewers is strengthened. However, the stereotypes are not the only example for ethos in the music video. Will s clothing and vernacular make a good case for ethical appeal as well. Throughout the video Will is dressed in loud bright colored clothing with various trendy accessories such as hats and sneakers. The clothing helps Will to appeal to the younger viewers because it s something the viewers can identify with. Also Will s upbeat tone and hipster lingo help his credibility of acting as an average young black male. While ethos plays a large role in the appeal of the video, pathos plays a role equally as large. The pathological appeal in the music video is present from start to finish. The video opens with a background soundtrack of an upbeat rap tune. The tune is catchy and grabs the viewer s attention immediately. Will Smith compliments the catchy beat by rapping an energetic rap. The rap itself demands for viewers attention because it appeals to their taste in music. Whereas music is the main avenue of appeal in the video, there are other pathos elements present. While Will is playing basketball, the ball accidently hits a nearby thug who takes offense and physically confronts Will. The thug threatens and bullies Will until Will s mom gets so scared for Will s well being that she sends him to live his aunt and uncle in Bel Air. Nearly every kid in ... • 45. Personal Narrative-The Injury The Injury I felt pain. It was a gloomy Thursday night with a teeny breeze. It was about 7:00 pm. My sister Mia and I were practicing our gymnastics skills in my cold basement with the finished, yellow walls and the soft, brown carpet. I could hear the thud of the feet against the floor when she landed her back handsprings, while I watched her. Her hands bounced off the floor like she was on a trampoline. I thought I want to be able to do a back handspring just like Mia. Mia, can you help me try to be able to do my back handspring? I asked her. Sure! she replied joyfully. She got up and showed me how to do it. I can do that. It doesn t look that hard I thought. I stood up and start warming up my backbends. My hands sunk into the carpet when they touched the ground. I finished warming up and I was ready to try! Mia put her hand behind my back and cheerfully encouraged me. Try it! She said merrily. I swing my arms back and do a handstand. ... My hands slipped of the soft, brown carpet while she flipped me over. Silence. For a few seconds there is no sound. CRACK! I felt pain. My left arm hurt like if someone snapped my bone in half. That was the only sound in the room. Then screaming and the rushing of my feet filled the basement with noise. I sprinted upstairs and my dad raced downstairs to see what was wrong. He laid me on the soft, warm couch. Are you okay? he asked worriedly. No I thought in my head but the words couldn t come out of my mouth I was crying so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(shakespeare online.com) Clearly, the evidence doubting Shakespeare s authorship has no clear backing emanating from the Elizabethan period when Shakespeare was alive rather it was a theory started well after Shakespeare s passing. A more specific counter argument concentrates on the number one alternate to William Shakespeare Edward De Vere 17th Earl of Oxford. In examining, the historical data, the dates do not support the theory that the Earl of Oxford wrote all of Shakespeare s work. Oxford died in 1604, and significant evidence indicates that some of Shakespeare s work was produced years later. (For instance, The Tempest was influenced by a voyage to the Americas that did not occur until 1610). (news.psu.edu). Integrity by the definition in the Cambridge dictionary is: the quality of being honest . As the dictionary indicates, usually, a lot of people utilize integrity as a synonym for the honesty, but in my opinion, the word integrity implies much more than fair being honest. American media proprietor Oprah Winfrey said: Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody s going to know whether you did it or not.
