The WTO is an international organization that aims to liberalize trade between member countries by reducing barriers and establishing a rules-based system for trade. It was established in 1995 as the successor to GATT and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The WTO has 152 member countries and has a ministerial conference as its top decision-making body, as well as a general council and three councils covering trade in goods, intellectual property, and services.
