The Pros And Cons Of The Equal Protection Clause
The Equal Protection Clause is part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
The clause provides that no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of
the laws . Two landmark 14th Amendment cases are Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of
Education. However, each case treated the 14th Amendment differently and this caused a different
outcome for each court case. In the Plessy v. Ferguson case, the statute of Louisiana, acts of 1890, c.
111 requires train companies to provide separate but equal usage for colored and white races. Plessy
was a resident in the state of Louisiana which he was of mixed race as he was seven eighths caucasian
and one eighth black. He tried to use the whites only train section and was arrested. Plessy then sued
Louisiana State Supreme Justice, the Hon. John H. Ferguson for violating his 13th Amendment which
prevents slavery and his 14th Amendment which is equal protection under US laws. ( Plessy v.
Ferguson , 1). The Supreme Court, in a 7 1 decision, favored Ferguson. The majority rejected Plessy s
argument about violating his 13th and 14th Amendment rights. Plessy s 14th Amendment argument
was rejected because the Supreme Court states that races could be separate and equal to each other.
This set a precedent stating that separate but equal was lawful and constitutional. Justice Henry Brown
wrote the majority opinion, which rejected Plessy s argument that the Louisiana law conflicted with

Women s Fight For Women
Women in Combat
For a long time now women have been an important part of the U.S. military, having performed
admirably in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
The debate on whether women should play a role in combat has been a long standing debate that has
not yet reached a consensus. According to Daniel Davis in his article The Truth About Women in
Ground Combat Roles President Obama commended the December 3 decision by Secretary of
Defense Ash Carter to open all combat jobs to women. Many arguments have been raised in defense
of military policy that bans women from combat roles. According to Megan Mackenzie in Let Women
Fight nearly 214,098 women serve in the U.S. military, representing 14.6 percent of total service
members. The main question or concern is not whether women are capable of conducting combat
operations, but instead is can women endure the physical and physiological rigors of sustained combat
operations. Many people who are against the involvement of women on the front line make the
argument that with women entering combat the standards of the military will be lowered. Women have
already proven their selves to be able to do just about as much as men can in a combat role. However,
there are quite a few concerns when it comes to women serving in combat. For example, the physical
ability of women. Majority of jobs in the armed forces are open equally to men and women, but there
are some jobs to which women are not physically able to pursue. There

Queen Isabella
Queen Isabella once said, I will assume the undertaking for my own crown of Castile, and am ready to
pawn my jewels to defray the expenses of it, if the funds in the treasury should be found inadequate.
She may be most famous for funding Christopher Columbus on his expedition to the New World, but
she was so much more than the provider of that trip. She had a complicated childhood and became a
great ruler. Isabella I of Castile, was born April 22, 1451, she was half Spanish and half Portuguese.
Isabella s mother was not cared about even though Isabella s father was of royal status. Since there
was already an heir to the throne, Isabella s half brother, Enrique, no one cared much about Isabella s
birth or baptism. Isabella s childhood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After Alfonso s death Isabella was not sure if she would be able to rule Spain as a woman. Many
people doubted and even her herself doubted. Enrique and Alfonso were planning on arranging a
marriage for Isabella eventually, but Isabella had her interest somewhere else. Living as a woman,
Isabella wanted equality and equity for women. In the book it says, Issues that affected women were
always of particular interest to Isabella, and gender relations also colored the perceptions of people
living in Spain. All three great faiths Judaism, Christianity, and Islam honored women in certain ways
but were also patriarchal and made women second class citizens in other significant ways. (p 22)
When there was a possibility for Isabella to become queen she wanted to truly impact the way things
in her world ran. Enrique eventually accepted that Isabella as his heir and announced it to the
kingdom. Even though Isabella was often alone there was a time where Enrique sent her to another
town where Isabella was considered a stranger. In the book, Isabella the Warrior Queen it says, It is
just as likely that the marital alliance was Enrique s attempt to remove Isabella from the direct line of
succession in Castile and relocate her to a distant land. (p 47) Luckily, Gonzalo and his nephew were
around which helped her mood. Being surrounded by friends is always helpful after a tragedy, like a

Argumentative Essay On Amelia
Espionage is seen as a threat, no matter where the location. The Japanese wouldn t want people
sneaking photographs of top secret information. Amelia would be seen as a threat and her actions
would be greatly frowned upon naturally. Her gender or aviation movement would not matter, nor be
considered when determining her fate. A spy during a time of chaos is not going to be ignored or taken
lightly. If spying was involved; I would imagine more than a plane crash would involve her
disappearance, but if she is what I envision. A feminist who wants to leave her mark in aviation who
experienced a forced landing or crash, leaving her forced to live like a castaway. In other opinions of

They were even willing to testify about the sighting. This theory involving the sightings and island has
been talked about and eventually seemed to stop drawing attention. This island could be where they
trained spies but I am not sure if Amelia Earhart was one of them. I was not an eyewitness, I have no
factual evidence of her presence there. I question if the person seen just looked familiar? Or was there
confirmation on her identity that I am unaware about? The questions only continue from not only
Earhart but also the location and the actions that were considered to be going on there. Amelia Earhart
s disappearance remains unsolved and will continue this trend if investigations and research aren t
conducted. Others that have analyzed and developed their own conspiracy theories. Some say that the
government was planning on Earhart s mission failing and that they didn t want a woman breaking

supporting evidence was uncovered stating, ...files of naval intelligence that, prior to that flight, the

Nt131 Unit 3 Paper
All three of the policies are in some way a little bit different than the current system in place in New
York. Delaware uses a three tier system that allows the state and local government to share the
responsibility of making decisions regarding distribution. Tier 1 provides funding for the cost for such
things as teachers salaries and their benefits. In addition, this Tier determines the amount of money
needed per pupil, meaning that the number of students in the district determines the amount of funds
that a district received. Tier II: this is the amount of money given to the district by the state to cover
such things as schools supplies, building maintenance and utilities. Tier III: this is the fund, provided
to the districts base on their pupil number, and this helps to equalize things between poor and wealthy
districts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, poorer districts will receive a bigger share of Tier III funding to fill the gap for special
needs in their district and the amount given to wealthier district. Whereas in Indiana the state
government decides the distribution amount because the state is the biggest stakeholder and funder in
their policy. New Jersey has a system that is similar to New York where a formula is used to determine
the amount the district will receive and district makes up the rest. New Jersey funding policy works by
using the SFRA formula to determine the base cost per pupil in order to meet their basic educational
needs. The formula is used to calculate the extra funds needed for such things as special needs and
Limited English proficient (LEP). The state uses the School Funding Reform Act (SFRA) to come up
with the amount they will put and then the used that number to figure out how much the local district

The Yellow Emperor s Acupuncturist In Chinese Medicine
The Nan Jing was thought to be written sometime in the second century (101 200 A.D.) during the
Han Dynasty (Flaws, 1999). The Nan Jing in the English translation is better known as The Yellow
Emperor s Eighty One Difficulties Classic, or Classic of Difficulties (Flaws, 1999). The text was
written as a conversation originally and is an accumulation of eighty one questions and answers.
Throughout history it was impossible to find the original author, traditionally the author of the Nan

Banksy s Nola Girl With Umbrella
Nola Girl with Umbrella also known as Rain Girl or Nola Girl was created by Banksy in 2008 as a
form of street art. Banksy is a graffiti artist from England. His work focuses on political issues, and
dark humor. Banksy is also a political activist and film director. He has given graffiti a new name. His
work is no longer considered vandalism; It is well sought out art which is marketed for a high price.
Banksy s identity still remains unknown even though there are some contenders for whom we assume
he is. Banksy s Nola Girl first appeared in New Orleans, Louisiana on a grey wall. This specific form
or style of street art is referred to as stencil art which Banksy is well known for. A stencil is used in
order to create the same image several times. A stencil is usually a thin sheet of material used to create
the design underneath the surface in which it is being placed, depicting an image.
This piece is dominated by a young girl in a black dress. She is standing with her hand held out from
underneath a black umbrella in which she seeks shelter from. Her hair looks heavy and stringy, it

The meaning behind this piece was to show how things we often seek protection and comfort from can
often hurt us. He portrayed this message by displaying rain pouring from beneath an umbrella; an item
in which its purpose is to protect us from rain, or keep us dry. Banksy came up with Nola Girl a couple
years after hurricane Katrina passed by; which destroyed the city of New Orleans. The word Nola
refers to New Orleans Louisiana; even though in New Orleans Nola is perceived as the sad truth and
dark reality of the events that befell the city. Hurricane Katrina was devastating; it left scars on the
lives of many people. Nola Girl was created as a reminder of that suffering which still lives
throughout the city

The Controversy About Water Baptism
Baptism is one of the most important steps in a Christian s life. It is a symbol of a commitment to
follow Jesus Christ along with a public confession of Christ in one s life. Baptism represents an
internal death to self and a union with Christ and his death and resurrection. It means a dying to the
old self and living a new life in Christ. It s an internal certainty that is tied to an external symbol of
water. However Baptism is more than a symbol, it s a promise of a complete change of life from a
sinful person to a life of salvation and grace. Today we will celebrate the union of John with the Lord
Jesus Christ. The baptism of John serves as an outward symbol of commitment and obedience to
Christ.

If The Bible clearly states that one is saved by faith and not by works (Eph 2:8 9) what is the
significance of Baptism? Why is baptism so important? Being baptized is a symbolic testimony of
dying to the old self and a public confession of being new in Christ. It s a mark of conversion to
Christianity and symbolizes the death of the old sinful nature and a new life in Christ and a sign of

Figurative Language In Emily Dickinson s Poems
A famous poet named Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830. She was well known for
writing in quatrains and using slant rhyme in her poetry. Figurative language played a huge role in
emphasizing the meaning of her poems, she also used dashes to highlight words. The poem I heard a
Fly buzz when I died mainly described her deathbed scene. She used imagery to describe how the
room looked and how inaudible the room she occupied was, because she could hear a fly. Dickinson
used many sound elements in her well known poem I heard a Fly buzz when I died . One example
would be slant rhyme which is a type of rhyme formed by words with similar, but not identical
sounds. This helps shape the poem s meaning because the poem flows together ... Show more content

One literary element she often used in her poetry is imagery which are words that are visually
descriptive or figurative language. By using imagery Dickinson made readers imagine how death is
like for her, she also creates tension to describe how intense that moment was. I could not see to see
(line 20) . would be classified as imagery because it gives readers an idea about her emotions at that
exact moment. Another literary element is mood. The mood is something Dickinson focuses on, and
tries to make clear. Depressing would count as the mood, because she says certain distressing things
about how she feels toward the subject of death. One last example of a literary element Dickinson
used in her poem is simile. A simile is when you compare two things using the words like or as . The
line The Stillness in the Room Was like the Stillness in the Air (lines 2 3) would count as a simile
because she is comparing two alike things, death and air. She s describing how silent she thinks death
really is, maybe even peaceful. Many themes can be interpreted by reading the poem I heard a Fly
buzz when I died but two themes seem to stick out. Mortality and family. Family is a big part of a
deathbed scene. Dickinson uses the theme mortality in the poem to explore all kinds of thing about
death. She thinks about how it feels, happens, what we expect

Ben And The Half-Polar Bear Empire
Ben oversaw his great polar bear empire as the bears slaved for him. Their kingdom was vast, and
their race was great. The white, ferocious beasts roamed the land on their oversized paws of power.
Nothing could even consider standing in their way, all 5,000 of them. The food chain was theirs, and
instead of humans hunting them the bears were hunting them. The homeland of the bears was in the
heart of Greenland, an island that used to be inhabited by humans, until the bears eradicated their
existence. This is the story of Ben and his mighty polar bear empire. Ben was a formidable opponent,

The Poem
Samuel Johnson s The Vanity of Human Wishes imitates, as its subtitle states, Juvenal s tenth satire.
The 368 lines of iambic pentameter in rhymed couplets do not claim to provide an exact translation
but rather to apply the poem to eighteenth century England. While Johnson therefore feels free to
modernize the allusions, he follows his model closely. The poem opens with the proposition that
people ask for the wrong things and points out the folly of the first common request, riches. An
interlude follows during which the poet invokes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This avian imagery is more explicit earlier in the poem when he describes Rebellion s vengeful talons
[that seize] on Laud (line 168).
Johnson constructs his argument through synecdoche, offering a few examples to stand for the infinite
number of wishes one might make. So, too, the few people cited suggest the many others the reader
can imagine.
Preferring the general to the specific, Johnson finds synecdoche a convenient device for description.
He does not paint a beautiful face but offers rosy lips and radiant eyes (line 323). The gifts of nature
are suggested by The fruits autumnal, and the vernal flower (line 262).
Personification abounds from the first line, in which Observation surveys humankind, to the last:
Wisdom calms the mind/ And makes the happiness she does not find (lines 367 368). Hope, fear,
desire, and hate spread their snares. Preferment has a gate, History speaks, Pride and Prudence take
her [Virtue s] seat in vain (line 336). Like synecdoche, this device keeps the poem at the level of
general truth that the author seeks. As he would write a decade later in The History of Rasselas, Prince
of Abyssinia (1759), The business of the poet...is to examine, not the individual but the species; to
remark general properties and large appearances. Much of the poem s power derives from the strong

The Once And Future King s Lasting Lessons Essay
Maral Khoyazim
Ms. Churchill
English 2 Honors, Period 5
28 September 2016
The Once and Future King s Lasting Lessons In times of crisis, people must rely on their morals and
wisdom to come to a solution. Often times, people do not have enough knowledge stored in their
minds to make a wise decision. However, if people would read between the lines of books, they would
come to the realization that there are many life lessons to learn from the wise words of authors.
Throughout the novel The Once and Future King, three major themes are presented. These themes
include war is destructive, people should not try to alter their destiny, and family is not always loyal.
All three of these themes are presented multiple times and three different characters enforce each one.
War is synonymous with destruction. Humanity has dealt with war since the beginning of time, yet
people continue to start it, despite the bloodshed and trauma. It isn t until thousands of lives are lost
that people begin to wonder if the war they ve been fighting is truly worth it. In The Once and Future
King, King Arthur was exposed to the consequences of war as a young boy when Merlyn transformed
him into an ant. He saw the horrors of being around bloodthirsty, ruthless beings. Right before the ants
were about to fight, Arthur had a moment of reflection, The time for war came soon enough. The
preparations were in order, the soldiers were drilled to the last ounce, the walls of the nest had

Long Distance Rates And Revenue
As long distance rates and revenue declined, the debt and expenses piled up and put pressure on
WorldCom s ability to meet key performance indicators and earnings forecasts (J. Randel Kuhn
Sutton, 2006). The line cost was the biggest expense for WorldCom and half of its total expenses.
Management committed to achieve a low line cost to revenue ratio because lower ratio meant better
performance and higher ratio meant poorer performance. Management focused on lowering the line
cost level expense (J. Randel Kuhn Sutton, 2006). It carried out two improper accounting methods to
reduce the amount of line costs (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). First, it released the
accruals, the amounts kept aside on WorldCom s financial statements to pay expected bills which is
also called cookie jar reserve from 1999 2000 (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). These
accruals were supposed to reflect the estimate line costs and other expenses that WorldCom had not
yet paid (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). Releasing the accrual is appropriate when it
turns out that less is needed to pay the bills than has been expected to pay. Instead, WorldCom
provided offset against reported line costs when the accrual was released which reduced reported
expenses and increased pre tax income (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003).
When the accruals started to run out, WorldCom came up with another method, capitalization of line
costs. WorldCom started classifying

Regulation of Not-for-profit Companies in Australia
Not for profit associations are associations that are formed to pursue some purpose other than to seek
financial gain for the organisation s individual members. Such associations may elect to incorporate as
a company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). As not for profit entities are
predominantly funded by public donation it is fundamental for their activities to exemplify
transparency. Furthermore, their administrative burden needs to be limited so the association can focus
its resources on pursuing the organisation s activities. In order to assess the effectiveness of current
legislative schemes underpinning reporting arrangements of not for profit companies limited by
guarantee, this report will compare the financial reporting and audit provisions applicable under the
Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) as opposed to those applicable under the Australian Charities and Non
for profits Commission Act 2012 (Cth). Following this, the operation of the provisions will be
evaluated by reference to administrative burden (specifically duplicity, complexity and incoordination)
and adequacy of public information. Finally, recommendations for change will be proposed.
Regulation under ASIC Reduced financial reporting under the Corporations Act The Corporations
Amendment (Corporate Reporting Reform) Act 2010 (Cth) has reduced financial reporting
requirements for companies limited by guarantee. These lowered requirements were justified by the

802. 11 Synthesis Essay
IEEE802.11n made numerous changes to the 802.11 wireless standards that greatly increased the
throughput as compared to earlier versions. 802.11n uses MIMO which is Multiple Input Multiple
Output (also known as Multiple Antennas). MIMO makes use of multiple antennae to create multiple
streams of communications between a transmitter and a receiver. The 802.11n amendment also
introduced changes in the physical as well as MAC layers to make marked changes in the
effectiveness of wireless networks. These changes included spatial division multiplexing, space time

So the transmitter can increase the output of the antennas in the direction of computers farther away or
where there are more computers to allow for better coverage or throughput and decrease the output of
the antennas in directions where there are obstacles. Other changes in 802.11n include: 1. 40 Mhz
bandwidth (channel bonding) which can get data rates as high as 600Mpbs which is a ten fold increase
as compared with 802.11 a thru g. 2. Frame aggregation transmits multiple MAC frames in a PHY
packet. 3. Reverse direction protocol allows the ability to transfer control of an air channel between
stations. This is especially good if the receiver is moving and the transmitters are trying to keep the
best connection possible. 4. Support for Voice over WLAN and multimedia streaming. This is
especially important as more telephone calls go VOIP and more video/audio content is available
online. 5. The ability of access points to change between 20 MHz and 40 MHz. This is good as the
receivers for that access point changes. The access point can speed up or slow down based on the
receivers in its broadcast area. 6. Channel bonding using two 20MHz channels. This turns the two 20
MHz band into a 40MHz band even though the transmitter is not transmitting at 40MHz. This is good
to increase throughput for receivers that only communicate at the 20MHz

Motivation for parish staff to continue work at St. Joseph s resides in their desire to foster the mission
of the Church both on the broad level and on the more specific level of St. Joseph s. We felt the
fulfillment of the parish staff strongly. While working at the parish is indeed a job, we experienced a
mentality that staff members felt privileged to work at St. Joseph s. One of the accountants, Cathy
Bohnen, stated she looks forward to coming in to St. Joseph s. We believe this supports the notion that
the environment at St. Joseph s is one which encourages and supports its staff members simply by
creating an environment conducive to the work expected of staff.
The parish nurtures this innate motivation to work for the Church in several ways; first, there is daily
morning prayer for the staff. Whoever is around and desires to participate gathers at the front desk
where a short prayer reflection occurs. In addition, Fr. Creagan encourages daily Mass; these practices
spiritually nourish the staff members. It would seem natural for this community to exist within a

capital improvements to the school and evangelization of parishioners especially those whose children

his staff to continually evaluate and implement new strategies within St. Joseph s. This was true both
within the larger parish and within the community of the office. It is through this business practice that
St. Joseph s experiences great success. Additionally, the effectiveness of this business practice has led

Stereotypes Of Dumb Blondes
Blondes do not deserve the reputation society has given them. Contrary to popular belief, the dumb
blonde jokes are nothing but inaccurate and long drawn out. It s no secret that blondes are given a bad
name based on their physical appearance. The media has done a great deal of prolonging this idea into
the brains of millions. Television shows and radio broadcasts are most commonly to blame for much
of these blonde hair stereotypes. These media outlets have especially taken a certain comedic point of
view for portraying the role of blondes in society. People try to define blondes by using derogatory
terms like stupid, moronic, and brainless, but little do they know that hair color has absolutely no
effect on the way a person thinks or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extensive media sources, as well as literary sources, have been notorious for establishing a certain
stereotype of an individual based on physical appearance. This image centers on ones weight, height,
hair color, and overall physical beauty. It is reported that these particular attributes may affect ones
personal career. No one knows quite why this is the case, but there have been several studies that
involve these works, linking whether there is a direct correlation with these results or if it comes down
to a discriminative nature. Among some of the most interesting studies, are the ones that deal with bias
in the workplace. According to a journal from Labour Economics, Blonde women with no work
experience earn 6% 9% less than their non blonde counterparts (Dechter 2015). The findings show
that blondes can have positive, as well as negative, effects in the workplace. The stronger negative
effect of blonde hair color is commonly apparent in sales (Dechter 2015). This theory has proven to be
true by the sheer presence of customer discrimination, thus showing a lack of blondes in the sales
profession (Dechter 2015). Both negative and positive preferences for blondeness are in line with the
prejudices of the blonde stereotype , which attributes a series of positive and negative characteristics
to young blonde women but not to young blonde men (Dechter 2015). Based on a study in the UK in
2006, scientists analyzed 500 CEOs and discovered that blondes were very underrepresented
compared to men and women with other hair colors (Dickinson 2012). A separate study done in 1996,
concluded that after the subjects displayed headshots in their resume during a job interview, blondes
were greatly undermined (Dickinson 2012). Although all the resumes were identical, the blonde
applicants were rated as less competent

What Does My Papa s Waltz Mean
When you read My Papa s Waltz, you might think it is about a boy and his father having fun just
before bedtime. However, if you look further into the words you see much more. Considering the text
is all one needs to discover the true meaning of this poem. The words will get into your soul and bring
sorrow and anger to the surface. The word whiskey (line 1) shows the father is a drinking man, and the
word dizzy (line 2) implies the amount of whiskey his father consumes sickens the boy. The boy is
young and fragile which plays in the lines of the poem death (line 3), battered (line 10), beat (line 13),
and caked hard (line 14), are all negative hidden meanings. The word countenance (line 7) parallels
the mother s stern disapproval. Hung (line 3) is past tense reflecting on an earlier time. Understanding
the words is the first step in analyzing the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rhythm as in lines one through four, and seven through eight, are seen throughout the poem. Whiskey,

the utmost power over the boy, he grabs his wrist instead of holding his hands, showing the control the
father has. The boy hung on like death (line 3), is showing he hung on to save his life. Verses rhyme
sounds unnatural, giving the poem an uncomfortable feeling. The verses flow like a dance except for a

Essay Bartolome De Las Casas
In A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies, Bartolomé de Las Casas vividly describes the
brutality wrought on the natives in the Americas by the Europeans primarily for the purpose of
proclaiming and spreading the Christian faith. Las Casas originally intended this account to reach the
royal administration of Spain; however, it soon found its way into the hands of many international
readers, especially after translation. Bartolomé de Las Casas illustrates an extremely graphic and grim
reality to his readers using literary methods such as characterization, imagery, amplification, authorial
intrusion and the invocation of providence while trying to appeal to the sympathies of his audience
about such atrocities.

He also portrays the natives with lucid terms so as to shed an innocent light on them in an attempt to
instill into his readers why it is so wrong for the Indians to be treated as they are by the Europeans.
Never quarrelsome or belligerent or boisterous, they harbour no grudges and do not seek to settle old
scores; indeed, the notions of revenge, rancour, and hatred are quite foreign to them. they are also
among the poorest people on earth They are innocent and pure of mind and have a lively
intelligence, all of which makes them particularly receptive to learning and understanding the truths of
our Catholic faith. (Casas 10)
As stated in the excerpt, Las Casas uses characterization to describe the Natives. He even says, These
would be the most blessed people on earth if only they were given the chance to convert to
Christianity (Casas 11). His use of this literary method virtually guarantees that his readers will
become empathetic toward the natives and side with Las Casas in his endeavor to protect the Indians.
Essentially, to those uneducated in the goings on in the New World, Las Casas not only educated them
but struck a sympathetic nerve that helped to push Old World Europeans toward minimizing the
cruelty in the New World. Although Las

Theme Of Disguises In King Lear
People put a large amount of effort into appearing a certain way. Many try to look wealthier than they
seem or try to act more intelligent than they are. These pictures that people hold up in front of
themselves are disguises, and in the case of King Lear, characters use these disguises to create
illusions of power, love and as a way to protect themselves. However, not only does the appearance of
a particular person deceive, but also the eyes of the person watching them. In King Lear, Shakespeare
employs the motif of eyes and sight to emphasize how appearances deceive and cannot be trusted.
In the first scene Regan and Goneril deceive King Lear with their words, flattering him in order to
obtain more land. By lying to Lear about their love and devotion to him, Regan and Goneril believe
that he will reward them. However, as the sisters later portray, they have no love for their father, but
are only driven by their greed. Because they lust after power, and Lear had the most authority before
he split his kingdom, they begin to strip away what little influence and control he had left. Edmund
was another character who deceives his father by what he says. He tricks his father, the Earl of
Gloucester, into believing that his legitimate brother, Edgar was plotting to overthrow him and take
control of all that Gloucester owned. Through his soliloquy, Edmund tells of his jealousy toward
Edgar, and he plots the downfall of his brother because he wants power, and because he wants to have
all the privileges of a legitimate heir. First questioning, Why brand they us? (1.2. 9) because he
believes that bastards are stronger, more motivated because the love that conceives them is truer, and
they contain, More composition and fierce quality. (1.2. 12).while Edgar was the result of a dull, stale,
tired bed. (1.2. 13). Unlike the sisters and Edmund, the Earl of Kent changes his appearance out of
duty to the King. He is Lear s ally, a close confidant and completely loyal to the King. When Lear
banished him, Kent returns, wishing to still serve the King, but must do so disguised as the servant,
Caius. Disguising himself strips him of his power and authority, and he assumes the role of an
impoverished man helping Lear. In

Women in Combat Essay
Women in Front Line Combat
When it comes to combat assignments and the needs of the military, men take precedence over all
other considerations, including career prospects of female service members. Female military members
have been encouraged to pursue opportunities and career enhancement within the armed forces, which
limit them only to the needs and good of the service due to women being not as similarly situated as
their male counterparts when it comes to strength or aggressiveness, and are not able to handle combat
situations.

Analysis Of Once Upon A Time By Nadine Gordimer
You can t protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness. This quote by
Jonathan Safran Foer shows us that no person can protect himself from everything bad without
blocking out the good too. In Once Upon a Time by Nadine Gordimer, one of the main themes is that
it is impossible for people to protect themselves from everything bad in life. In this short story, a wife
who lives in a nice suburban neighborhood is terrified of being robbed. Her fear drives her to become
extremely anxious. This anxiety makes her buy all sorts of security devices which eventually lead to
the death of her son. The wife s goal is to protect her house and family from everything bad in their
neighborhood. As a consequence of this, she gets super paranoid and ends up killing her son after he
gets stuck in her barbed wire fence. After her son gets stuck in the barbed wire, she realizes that there
is no way that any person can protect themself from all the terrible things in life. Therefore, because
the wife s motivation to protect her family causes her to accidentally kill her own son, Gordimer
shows that people cannot protect themselves from the terrible things in life.
Primarily, the wife is motivated to protect her family and house, no matter the cost. Towards the
beginning of the story, the wife is becoming uneasy about someone breaking into her house. She
shows us how anxious and paranoid she is when the story says, Yet she was afraid that someday such
people might

Mount Rushmore Analysis
Throughout this fall semester in History II, we ve followed the theme, American History, American
Memory and were asked to ponder the question, What does equality mean? As such we are asked to
decide which Americans, since 1865, should be portrayed on a modern edition of Mount Rushmore.
We were also told that we only have three people that we can include and make a case as to why we
chose these persons. I suppose I should begin by briefly describing a bit of my ancestry before I delve
into the assignment. Although my last name is Gebhardt I am ½ German and ½ Native American

that, they must first believe in themselves before others can. The cadets must know who they are, and

Essay On Bartleby The Race And Araby Counterpart
Three critical essays that presented strong approaches to Joyce s stories are Counterparts, After the
Race, and Araby. The critical approach for Joyce s Counterparts named Farrington the Scrivener: A
Story of Dame Street by Morris Beja compared Farrington to that of Herman Melville s short story
Bartleby the Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street (1853). While Melville s Bartleby was ambitious, Joyce
s Farrington was quite the opposite, an anti Bartleby, with physicality, ambition, and how they handle
themselves with violence (Beja 319). Despite these representations, Beja makes a point to say that
Joyce forces readers to understand Farrington. Beja, however, wants to make the literary criticism s
reader to realize our own kinship with him, but most of us are readier to identify with his son, or even
with Bartleby (Beja 320). Then, Beja begins to find their similarities, including their defiance toward
their bosses. Beja stated that the comparison may suggest a similar forces are present in their lives

This coping mechanism is ruinous and irrational, but many people make decisions that are irrational in
stressful situations in which they cannot escape. This brings the reader closer to Farrington as Beja
wanted. It is further important to understanding Farrington as the irrational, vengeance filled character

James Fairhall ( Big Power Politics and Colonial Economics: The Gordon Bennett Cup Race and After

throughout the night after the race. The criticism ultimately decides that when Ireland was involved

Go Ask Alice Is Written By An Anonymous Author Essay
The novel Go ask Alice is written by an anonymous author and is based on a diary kept by a
conventional teenager who then turns into a suicidal drug addict. What happens to Alice at one
unsavoury party changed her life forever. She is invited to Jill s party, someone she doesn t know well,
where her drink is unknowingly spiked with LSD. Not long after that Alice amassed a dependence on
drugs, for example she was unable to last even a few days sober. The author of the diary, Alice, has a
raw style and format of writing that fascinated me. The writing style exposed real emotions, and did
not hold back. It was as if Alice was talking to her best friend and thought that no one would see her
diary. I also think that because I am a teenager and so is Alice I was able to relate to the life she had
and the pressures she feels. Alice taught me that even saying yes once to drugs, could lead to life
threatening consequences. The themes I noticed were, the influence of the media, the highs and lows
of teenage life and the dangers of drug use.
Something I found unique about the book was the style and format. Go ask Alice is one of the few
books I have read that was written in diary form, I liked the way that it skipped from one day to the
next yet still kept making sense. I also enjoyed the way the writer described the highs on drugs, as not
many other books with powerful moral messages surrounding the dangers of drugs actually expose
what it is like to be on drugs. The book s honesty

The Importance of External Influences in Building a Democracy
In Democracy in the Third World, Robert Pinkney analyzed circumstances that have been important in
the past for building a democracy for current democratic regimes. Pinkney studies seven comparatives
and their theories for the cause and effect of democracy and identifies their pros and cons. The most
important of these conditions stands in the external influences and foreign participation in building the
state as a democracy of a non democratic country.
In his Conditions Conducive to Democracy chart Pinkney introduces the condition of external

Nigeria s democracy has struggled and has a grim future due to the high social and religious turmoil.
The relations of the inter elite has no evidence to show that it is conducive to democracy; France in the
late 1800s was ruled by the elite and the king and the peasant class was what brought the uprising of
the route towards democracy. For these reasons and many more the conditions stated above are not as
relevant to the establishment of a democracy as external influences of a democratized country onto a
non democratized country.
Before using specific country case studies we must first define what is a democracy. According to
Mark Kesselman, Joel Krieger and William A. Joseph a true democracy has all of the following:
political accountability, political competition, political freedom and political equality. First, political
accountability is the formal procedures of the state that are found legitimate by the people of the state.
Next, political competition allows political parties to practice freely and run for office. Political
freedom states that all citizens must possess political rights and civil liberties. Lastly, political equality
enables all citizens to be legally entitled to participate in politics.

A. Rogers greatest achievement was his writing on racist depictions on people of black ancestry,
which acknowledge the history of black people in America and around the world. Rogers worked for

Joel A. Rogers is a man of self determination because of Rogers only obtaining a high school diploma
and educating himself further in his career where he became a prolific journalist and author of
histories and collective biographies of great black figures (1). His self determination started at an early
age when he escaped from rural Jamaica by joining the British army and from that enlistment and
emigrated to America. His time in America shaped his attitudes and beliefs (which would stay with
him later in his career) because of the United States reinforcement of white hierarchy and unescapable
discrimination. Even as a student, Joel A. Rogers, in school he had resisted principles of white
superiority, and in the United States he thought back on the accomplishments of black West Indians
who had excelled within the British educational and military systems (2). As a student, Rogers grew
into an eager and zealous opponent of American racism. Rogers realized that the empowerment of
African Americans depended upon a needed prior revolution in their internalized self images.

Although it is unrealistic to expect that Singer s proposition, that we give ten percent of our annual

has on the body, including its tissues and cells, over brief or extended periods of time. Over the years
this discipline has made contributions to human health and has lead to athletic success through
maximizing human potential.
Clinical sports medicine has been greatly impacted by exercise physiology for a number of reasons,
but most importantly has made improvements in enhancing athletic performance through methods that
facilitate prevention and allow proper treatment for sports related injury, along with testing that can
give insight to further the success of athletes. Clinical physiologists focus on exercise design and

Regular participation in physical activity betters the body s ability to optimize oxygen consumption,
making it easier for oxygen to be transported to all areas of the body; this not only improves overall
health, but it also results in a less fatigued process when expending energy (Burton et al., 2004). Shaw,
B.S. and Shaw, I. were interested in determining whether resistance training would alter the VO2 max
levels of individuals, reducing the risks for coronary artery disease (CAD). They studied 28 male
subjects who were either matched to a control group exempting exercise or the resistance training
group. Through their experimental pre test and post test design, the researchers observed that the pre
test and post test VO2 max levels were relatively sedentary for the control group with values of
25.097 ml/kg/min and 23.778 ml/kg/min, but significantly increased for the resistance training group
from 26.674 ml/kg/min to 30.981 ml/kg/min. Their research concluded that with increased VO2 max
levels found in those participating in resistance training exercises, the risks of CAD were significantly
lowered, and as a result suggested that this type of training could be implementing into more training
programs to improve the health of individuals (Shaw, B.S. Shaw, I., 2005). To further support this
claim, a broader group of individuals and a larger sample size could be

Research Paper On George Eliot
The Interesting Life of George Eliot Have you ever heard of the famous writer George Eliot? Well if
you haven t then you are going to find out some interesting facts about the writer. George Eliot is from
the era 1819 1880 (poetry criticism). When I first learned about George Eliot and read some of their
stories, I thought it was a guy because of the name but it turns out that George Eliot is actually a
woman that uses the name George because her writer friend Lewes told her to use like a stage name.
George Eliot s real name is Mary Ann Evens.
George Eliot is from England and is known for her novels set in rural England. George grew up in
England with her mother and father who were a strict Methodist family. George never really thought

Thomas Alva Edison s Impact On Society
Thomas Alva Edison s many inventions have tremendously impacted the way Americans live and
work. One of his most astounding invention was the incandescent light bulb. Edison started working
on it in 1878 and thought it necessary to have a significantly more convenient, and affordable light
than what was in the market in the 1800 s. He made his light bulb out off a durable incandescent
material that was far more convenient for homes and small areas than the other light bulb s in the
market. After realizing the need for a better light bulb, Edison started conducting experiments by
fabrication and testing of many different metal filaments, including platinum. Platinum was very
difficult to work with, and prone to being weakened by heating and

Paranormal Sightings Essay
Paranormal Sightings
Should paranormal sightings of ghosts be taken seriously? Paranormal sightings should be taken into
consideration because there could be other things among us, besides humans in this world. Also if
ghosts think you are harming them, they could actually appear right under you. Furthermore ghosts
can appear in different shapes and sizes. For instance ufos should also be taken seriously because they
appear in the sky. Ghosts also like to play tricks on the human mind. When a person dies there spirit
can get stuck in the middle of the universe. Ghosts don t haunt all cemeteries, but they still rest in
peace. In studies around the world people have actually seen, and heard ghosts in there house or at

A video camera can catch better glimpses than the eye can, because of its special lens. Some ghosts
can be tall, short, big, small etc. Studying ghosts are very interesting because they are not like humans.
Also ghosts can appear as light, or a shadow, or basically any form they like to be.
For instance ufos should also be taken seriously because they appear in the sky. Ufos are a light form
kind of a jet, which goes across the blue sky. They mostly like to appear at shows like an air show, or
shows with a lot of people around. Ufos are amazing things because people don t know what they are,
so it is interesting to investigate. Ufos are another form of life on a different planet besides earth.
In addition ghosts also like to play tricks on the human mind, to make the mind scared. For example
ghosts like to make noises, flip light switches, and screech of the doors. Now you re mind can see
something from a long distance, and say nothing is there when there actually is something there. So if
you re mind plays tricks on you, it can be real or it can be fake. Also when you see a shadow, it can
also play tricks on your mind to think its something else. Now when a person dies there spirit can get
stuck in the middle of the universe. Some ghosts don t want to go to heaven, or hell because their
spirit can t see the white light. Some spirits like to go on land, and protect the cemetery, from people
that will hurt it. Ghosts also get

models and approaches relate to client need, therapeutic...
Through analysis and evaluation of models and approaches within counselling and psychotherapy
therapeutic delivery, explain how models and approaches relate to client need, therapeutic context and
aims and objectives of the therapy.
Psychotherapists will be educated in various different models and whether they are approaching a
client through the concept of observing external behaviours, the Behaviourist approach for example in
which a therapist will look to condition new behaviours, or through the idea of internal behaviour,
such as the Psychodynamic approach and believing the unconscious needs to be divulged, the aim of
all approaches is to enable the client to lead a positive and prosperous life, in the words of Carl
Rogers, as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The humanistic approach works on the idea of the individual s free will and puts faith and control into
them. Maslow argues that Freud supplied the sick half of psychology and that He (and Rogers)
stressed the healthy half . The humanistic approach can be seen as a counterbalance to both the
Psychodynamic and Behaviourist approaches, the humanistic approach brought the person back to
psychology. Despite these differences between the Humanistic and Psychodynamic approach it has to
be acknowledged that in certain situations the two approaches can be combined, depending on the
client s diagnosis.
We also have to consider the difference in the role of the therapist between the different models, (R.
Gross (Hodder, 2010 ) in classical psychoanalysis, the analyst is meant to remain faceless, not
showing any emotion or revealing any personal information . If working within the Psychodynamic
and Behaviourist approach the Therapist is relied upon

Nursing Exemplar
Katherine Gallagher NU 310 Exemplar 2/21/2012 I arrived to work well rested and ready to start the
day. I had just returned after a two week long vacation. Because of the time off, I arrived to 7 East to
find that the assortment of patients was not familiar at all. As I began getting reports on my patients,
one in particular I started to feel a little anxious and stressed. At first glance I could tell I would be
busy for the next twelve hours. Lynda was a 45 year old woman that was admitted almost a week ago
after having an emergent tracheostomy placed. Lynda was newly diagnosed with laryngeal cancer with
already having several other diagnoses including: seizure disorders, mild mental retardation,
behavioral issues, and was legally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The look on Lynda s face was that of incredible confidence, I was truly impressed with her. By the end
of our second twelve hour shift, Lynda had learned how to suction herself. It was passed along in
report to simply encourage her independence in suctioning herself. Day three, my mission was to
teach Lynda the proper care of her PEG tube, and to continue with the encouragement of her
suctioning herself. After walking her though a bolus feeding in the morning, she agreed to do the next
one. Lunch time came around and sure enough, she was able to complete the bolus feeding with
minimum assistance. By the time came for the next feeding she was going to get the can of food to do
it herself when I had walked in the room. She laughed and told me I was right that the PEG tube was a
lot easier than suctioning. At this point in Lynda s stay I knew that she would be going home soon.
Later that evening, while discussing Lynda s progress over the last few days with the physicians I
asked them what the plan was and instructed them that we needed to get nutrition, social work, and
case management involved so that she could go home. The physicians stated that they would place the
consults that I requested but as for discharge they were unsure about when this would happen because
Lynda s brother doesn t think she can care for herself on her own. I was shocked to hear this, the
brother who I had not

sleep disturbance and changes in vaginal, bladder or sexual function (Mayo Clinic, 2016). In the U.S.,
the average age of menopause is 50 52 years (Maldonado Zúñiga, 2005). Most women experience

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of The Equal Protection Clause The Equal Protection Clause is part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The clause provides that no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws . Two landmark 14th Amendment cases are Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education. However, each case treated the 14th Amendment differently and this caused a different outcome for each court case. In the Plessy v. Ferguson case, the statute of Louisiana, acts of 1890, c. 111 requires train companies to provide separate but equal usage for colored and white races. Plessy was a resident in the state of Louisiana which he was of mixed race as he was seven eighths caucasian and one eighth black. He tried to use the whites only train section and was arrested. Plessy then sued Louisiana State Supreme Justice, the Hon. John H. Ferguson for violating his 13th Amendment which prevents slavery and his 14th Amendment which is equal protection under US laws. ( Plessy v. Ferguson , 1). The Supreme Court, in a 7 1 decision, favored Ferguson. The majority rejected Plessy s argument about violating his 13th and 14th Amendment rights. Plessy s 14th Amendment argument was rejected because the Supreme Court states that races could be separate and equal to each other. This set a precedent stating that separate but equal was lawful and constitutional. Justice Henry Brown wrote the majority opinion, which rejected Plessy s argument that the Louisiana law conflicted with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Women s Fight For Women Women in Combat For a long time now women have been an important part of the U.S. military, having performed admirably in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. The debate on whether women should play a role in combat has been a long standing debate that has not yet reached a consensus. According to Daniel Davis in his article The Truth About Women in Ground Combat Roles President Obama commended the December 3 decision by Secretary of Defense Ash Carter to open all combat jobs to women. Many arguments have been raised in defense of military policy that bans women from combat roles. According to Megan Mackenzie in Let Women Fight nearly 214,098 women serve in the U.S. military, representing 14.6 percent of total service members. The main question or concern is not whether women are capable of conducting combat operations, but instead is can women endure the physical and physiological rigors of sustained combat operations. Many people who are against the involvement of women on the front line make the argument that with women entering combat the standards of the military will be lowered. Women have already proven their selves to be able to do just about as much as men can in a combat role. However, there are quite a few concerns when it comes to women serving in combat. For example, the physical ability of women. Majority of jobs in the armed forces are open equally to men and women, but there are some jobs to which women are not physically able to pursue. There ... Often times, people do not have enough knowledge stored in their minds to make a wise decision. However, if people would read between the lines of books, they would come to the realization that there are many life lessons to learn from the wise words of authors. Throughout the novel The Once and Future King, three major themes are presented. These themes include war is destructive, people should not try to alter their destiny, and family is not always loyal. All three of these themes are presented multiple times and three different characters enforce each one. War is synonymous with destruction. Humanity has dealt with war since the beginning of time, yet people continue to start it, despite the bloodshed and trauma. It isn t until thousands of lives are lost that people begin to wonder if the war they ve been fighting is truly worth it. Management committed to achieve a low line cost to revenue ratio because lower ratio meant better performance and higher ratio meant poorer performance. Management focused on lowering the line cost level expense (J. Randel Kuhn Sutton, 2006). It carried out two improper accounting methods to reduce the amount of line costs (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). First, it released the accruals, the amounts kept aside on WorldCom s financial statements to pay expected bills which is also called cookie jar reserve from 1999 2000 (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Releasing the accrual is appropriate when it turns out that less is needed to pay the bills than has been expected to pay. Instead, WorldCom provided offset against reported line costs when the accrual was released which reduced reported expenses and increased pre tax income (Beresford, Katzenbach, C.B. Rogers, 2003). It s no secret that blondes are given a bad name based on their physical appearance. The media has done a great deal of prolonging this idea into the brains of millions. Television shows and radio broadcasts are most commonly to blame for much of these blonde hair stereotypes. These media outlets have especially taken a certain comedic point of view for portraying the role of blondes in society. This image centers on ones weight, height, hair color, and overall physical beauty. It is reported that these particular attributes may affect ones personal career. No one knows quite why this is the case, but there have been several studies that involve these works, linking whether there is a direct correlation with these results or if it comes down to a discriminative nature. Among some of the most interesting studies, are the ones that deal with bias in the workplace. According to a journal from Labour Economics, Blonde women with no work experience earn 6% 9% less than their non blonde counterparts (Dechter 2015). The findings show that blondes can have positive, as well as negative, effects in the workplace. The stronger negative effect of blonde hair color is commonly apparent in sales (Dechter 2015). This theory has proven to be true by the sheer presence of customer discrimination, thus showing a lack of blondes in the sales profession (Dechter 2015). Both negative and positive preferences for blondeness are in line with the prejudices of the blonde stereotype , which attributes a series of positive and negative characteristics to young blonde women but not to young blonde men (Dechter 2015). Based on a study in the UK in 2006, scientists analyzed 500 CEOs and discovered that blondes were very underrepresented compared to men and women with other hair colors (Dickinson 2012). A separate study done in 1996, concluded that after the subjects displayed headshots in their resume during a job interview, blondes were greatly undermined (Dickinson 2012). • 27. Theme Of Disguises In King Lear People put a large amount of effort into appearing a certain way. Many try to look wealthier than they seem or try to act more intelligent than they are. These pictures that people hold up in front of themselves are disguises, and in the case of King Lear, characters use these disguises to create illusions of power, love and as a way to protect themselves. However, not only does the appearance of a particular person deceive, but also the eyes of the person watching them. In King Lear, Shakespeare employs the motif of eyes and sight to emphasize how appearances deceive and cannot be trusted. In the first scene Regan and Goneril deceive King Lear with their words, flattering him in order to obtain more land. By lying to Lear about their love and devotion to him, Regan and Goneril believe that he will reward them. However, as the sisters later portray, they have no love for their father, but are only driven by their greed. Because they lust after power, and Lear had the most authority before he split his kingdom, they begin to strip away what little influence and control he had left. Edmund was another character who deceives his father by what he says. He tricks his father, the Earl of Gloucester, into believing that his legitimate brother, Edgar was plotting to overthrow him and take control of all that Gloucester owned. Through his soliloquy, Edmund tells of his jealousy toward Edgar, and he plots the downfall of his brother because he wants power, and because he wants to have all the privileges of a legitimate heir. First questioning, Why brand they us? (1.2. 9) because he believes that bastards are stronger, more motivated because the love that conceives them is truer, and they contain, More composition and fierce quality. (1.2. 12).while Edgar was the result of a dull, stale, tired bed. (1.2. 13). Unlike the sisters and Edmund, the Earl of Kent changes his appearance out of duty to the King. He is Lear s ally, a close confidant and completely loyal to the King. When Lear banished him, Kent returns, wishing to still serve the King, but must do so disguised as the servant, Caius. Disguising himself strips him of his power and authority, and he assumes the role of an impoverished man helping Lear. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Analysis Of Once Upon A Time By Nadine Gordimer You can t protect yourself from sadness without protecting yourself from happiness. This quote by Jonathan Safran Foer shows us that no person can protect himself from everything bad without blocking out the good too. In Once Upon a Time by Nadine Gordimer, one of the main themes is that it is impossible for people to protect themselves from everything bad in life. In this short story, a wife who lives in a nice suburban neighborhood is terrified of being robbed. Her fear drives her to become extremely anxious. This anxiety makes her buy all sorts of security devices which eventually lead to the death of her son. The wife s goal is to protect her house and family from everything bad in their neighborhood. As a consequence of this, she gets super paranoid and ends up killing her son after he gets stuck in her barbed wire fence. After her son gets stuck in the barbed wire, she realizes that there is no way that any person can protect themself from all the terrible things in life. Therefore, because the wife s motivation to protect her family causes her to accidentally kill her own son, Gordimer shows that people cannot protect themselves from the terrible things in life. Primarily, the wife is motivated to protect her family and house, no matter the cost. Towards the beginning of the story, the wife is becoming uneasy about someone breaking into her house. One of his most astounding invention was the incandescent light bulb. A video camera can catch better glimpses than the eye can, because of its special lens. Some ghosts can be tall, short, big, small etc. Studying ghosts are very interesting because they are not like humans. Also ghosts can appear as light, or a shadow, or basically any form they like to be. For instance ufos should also be taken seriously because they appear in the sky. Ufos are a light form kind of a jet, which goes across the blue sky. They mostly like to appear at shows like an air show, or shows with a lot of people around. Ufos are amazing things because people don t know what they are, so it is interesting to investigate. Ufos are another form of life on a different planet besides earth. In addition ghosts also like to play tricks on the human mind, to make the mind scared. For example ghosts like to make noises, flip light switches, and screech of the doors. Through analysis and evaluation of models and approaches within counselling and psychotherapy therapeutic delivery, explain how models and approaches relate to client need, therapeutic context and aims and objectives of the therapy. Psychotherapists will be educated in various different models and whether they are approaching a client through the concept of observing external behaviours, the Behaviourist approach for example in which a therapist will look to condition new behaviours, or through the idea of internal behaviour, such as the Psychodynamic approach and believing the unconscious needs to be divulged, the aim of all approaches is to enable the client to lead a positive and prosperous life, in the words of Carl Rogers, as a ... Maslow argues that Freud supplied the sick half of psychology and that He (and Rogers) stressed the healthy half . The humanistic approach can be seen as a counterbalance to both the Psychodynamic and Behaviourist approaches, the humanistic approach brought the person back to psychology. Despite these differences between the Humanistic and Psychodynamic approach it has to be acknowledged that in certain situations the two approaches can be combined, depending on the client s diagnosis. We also have to consider the difference in the role of the therapist between the different models, (R. Gross (Hodder, 2010 ) in classical psychoanalysis, the analyst is meant to remain faceless, not showing any emotion or revealing any personal information . • 44. Nursing Exemplar Katherine Gallagher NU 310 Exemplar 2/21/2012 I arrived to work well rested and ready to start the day. I had just returned after a two week long vacation. Because of the time off, I arrived to 7 East to find that the assortment of patients was not familiar at all. As I began getting reports on my patients, one in particular I started to feel a little anxious and stressed. At first glance I could tell I would be busy for the next twelve hours. Lynda was a 45 year old woman that was admitted almost a week ago after having an emergent tracheostomy placed. Lynda was newly diagnosed with laryngeal cancer with already having several other diagnoses including: seizure disorders, mild mental retardation, behavioral issues, and was legally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The look on Lynda s face was that of incredible confidence, I was truly impressed with her. By the end of our second twelve hour shift, Lynda had learned how to suction herself. It was passed along in report to simply encourage her independence in suctioning herself. Day three, my mission was to teach Lynda the proper care of her PEG tube, and to continue with the encouragement of her suctioning herself. After walking her though a bolus feeding in the morning, she agreed to do the next one. Lunch time came around and sure enough, she was able to complete the bolus feeding with minimum assistance. By the time came for the next feeding she was going to get the can of food to do it herself when I had walked in the room. She laughed and told me I was right that the PEG tube was a lot easier than suctioning. At this point in Lynda s stay I knew that she would be going home soon. Later that evening, while discussing Lynda s progress over the last few days with the physicians I asked them what the plan was and instructed them that we needed to get nutrition, social work, and case management involved so that she could go home. The physicians stated that they would place the consults that I requested but as for discharge they were unsure about when this would happen because Lynda s brother doesn t think she can care for herself on her own. I was shocked to hear this, the brother who I had not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
