Analysis Of The Moai Of Easter Island
The reading and the lecture are both about the Moai of Easter Island. The author of the reading
believes that the construction of the Moai led to the collapse of the civilization located there. The
lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She thinks that the society on the island did not
suffer as a result of the construction of the Moai. First of all, the author claims that the people of the
island cut down vast amounts of valuable trees in order to build the statues. He notes that the Moai
were moved across the island using wooden tracks and log rollers. This point is challenged by the
lecturer. She says that islanders used a series of ropes to walk the statues to their intended locations.
Furthermore, she points out

Isaac s Storm Essay
In the Novel Isaac s Storm , the reader is told the tragic story of a hurricane that devastated the very
prosperous city of Galveston in 1900. Throughout the book you are told the events leading up to the
hurricane as well as an in depth look at the actions of certain individuals that greatly impacted the
devastation of this horrific storm. This story begins with the introduction of Mr. Isaac Cline, a well
educated Tennessee native, who served as the Chief Meteorologist in Galveston, Texas during the late
1800 s. Isaac and his Wife Cora May, as well as their four kids, lived in their newly built storm proof
home alongside the Galveston Coast. Isaac took an interest in how weather affected people s health,
and did so alongside his ever eager brother, Joseph. During Isaac s time as Chief Meteorologist, he
helped lead the change in how modern Meteorologists study the weather today. Galveston, being a
bountiful city, had the money to put into public works that would interest people into either living in
or visiting Galveston. This busy city had intentions on becoming one of the most well known cities in
the United States, a city that at the time could be compared to New York. ... Show more content on

area. Cline believed that with the shallow waters surrounding the city, there was no way a storm could

Miami Beach
The beautiful musical trio of waves crashing onto the perfectly golden dipped shore, seagulls cawing
as they fly away to identify their next prey, and the shrills of children create a symphony for my ears.
Whenever I am laying on the beach, I feel so serene; I feel as if I have no worries in the world. The
beach is my sanctuary.
It means I m at home. I m from Virginia Beach, and despite how far I am away from home, whether I
m on Miami Beach or just a beach off of a lake, the beach gives off a domestic feeling. When I spent a
week away from home in July at a summer camp on a lake, I didn t have any contact with my family
at all. It was tough to be far away from home for what had seemed like a long time; however, the

I feel so happy and warm laying on the beach because it just radiates positivity. I constantly look
around and see such bright, radiant colors of beach umbrellas, and you can hear children s laughter as
they boogie board the beautiful blue waves back to shore. The beach is just a little getaway, and for
me, it s like therapy.
The beach has always meant the world to me, and I couldn t imagine being someone who hasn t even
seen the ocean. Virginia Beach is all I ve ever known since I was born. The beach has such a
sentimental value to me and whenever I go there, I do get feelings of nostalgia. I remember when my
entire family would gather at the beach, and my cousins and I would play in the waves for hours or eat
bright red watermelon as we build a fortress of a sandcastle.
Not only do I visit the beach in the summer, but I go in the fall and winter as well. Some people may
think I m crazy for going in freezing temperatures, but I don t swim; I walk around on the beach as I
feel the cold sand against my feet. My favorite time to visit the beach in the off season is during
hurricanes. I love looking at the 6 feet high waves crash onto the sand, and I love looking at the dark
colors of the sky and ocean together. However, the sand blowing around from the harsh winds make it
hard to admire everything all at once because the sand is almost piercing you like needles, but I feel

Campin s Painting Comparison
Both paintings focus around the same subject, Mary receiveing the news that she will be carrying
Jesus by the Archangel Gabriel. Angelico s painting is a very large fresco. The painting is so large that
Mary and Gabriel are almost life size. In comparison, Campin s painting is a triptych that is small and
a portable oil painting. This portability brings us into a new era, where people want this type of art in
their homes versus only being able to view them in a church. The left panel allows us to see the donors
being nosey, the middle panel is the scene of the annunciation, and the right panel gives us a look at
Joseph working. Both paintings have reflective qualities. In Angelico s painting Gabriel s wings are

Angelico keeps his painting very simplistic with no flash or Christian symbolism in it. Many think that
it is because of the location of the painting in a church. The area surrounding Gabriel and Mary is bare
and flat. The focus is strictly on Mary and Garbriel who are technically to large spacially. They would
not be able to move around in the area because of their size. Campin has created a piece that is full of
Christian symbolism. The flowers on the table, the tools that Joseph uses, and baby Jesus floating in
on sun rays heading toward Mary s womb are just a few examples. While Angelico kept his
background simple and plan, Campin uses a background that makes the painting relatable for the
viewer of that time. Campin uses a home that would have been modern and pays specific details to the
surroundings. The textures and amount of detail that Campin puts into his painting make it feel plush
and full of life. The candle stick, the vase, the wooden table and the surrounding wooden pieces in
Joseph s shop all show us the texture of the material. It almost makes you want to reach out and

Within A Dynamic Economy, Like The United States, Jobs
Within a dynamic economy, like the United States, jobs are lost and created and workers are displaced
and reemployed continuously. There will always be technological advancements that are replacing
jobs. For example, automation in the manufacturing industry have replaced people in the workplace.
Automation performs much more efficiently than a person performs. In this paper I am going to
analyze the effects that automation has caused in the job market and how it will continue to affect
various industries. I am also going to compare automation job loss and outsourcing job loss. In my
own terms, automation is the creation and application of technology to monitor and control the
production and delivery of products ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One multi tasker bot, from Momentum Machines, can make (and flip) a gourmet hamburger in 10
seconds and could soon replace an entire McDonalds crew. A manufacturing device from Universal
Robots doesn t just solder, paint, screw, glue, and grasp, it also builds new parts for itself on the fly
when they wear out or bust. And just recently Google won a patent to start building worker robots
with personalities. There is a predisposition that robots and automation can do one thing and one thing
only. There are currently machines that do many things that would take multiple people to do. In the
near future cars may be able to drive themselves and cooking may be completely automated. There is
no limit where automation could take us and depending on the perspective you take, its benefiting the
world. It is clear by my examples above that automation reduces the amount of labor required to
produce a good or service, it produces product more efficiently, and it promotes innovation in all
industries. Is automation worth the job loss that it creates? Can jobs be created due to an increase in
automation? The United States did indeed lose about 5.6 million manufacturing jobs between 2000
and 2010. But according to a study by the Center for Business and Economic Research at Ball State
University, 85 percent of these jobs losses are actually attributable to technological change, largely
automation, rather than international

Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve...
12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and abjection to inspire
poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize gruesome acts and remind us of man s
capability for despicable amorality. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no
longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the
privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be
beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueen allows us to breathe
for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create
empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects
and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires
psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is
presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows
down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously.
Both enforce a separation between man and nature and emphasize the heinous through means of polar
comparison, yet also tie visual beauty to the retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking
sequences, Steven McQueen frequently uses a wide far shot and captures the blinding white

Reflection Of The Finding Meaning, Joy And Happiness Project
Upon completion of the requirements necessary to finish section one of the Finding Meaning, Joy and
Happiness Project, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy tracking my daily habits became. Between
the fitness log, eating log, and sleep log, I found it the most tedious to keep up with every workout I
did. However, once I got into the mindset of tracking these three areas every day, it became
increasingly easier to remember. The genetics/risk taking table also helped me to pinpoint potential
risks my family is accustomed to and figure out different precautions I can take to limit my risk.
The first section of this assignment was my Fitness Log, where I kept track of my specific activity for
sixteen days, including what I did and how long I did it for. Initially, this log was the most difficult for
me to keep track of. I have always been fairly adamant regarding my fitness schedule, so the activity
itself was not a challenge. After completing the log, I got to look back and see the pattern of my
workouts which helped me to better understand the results. I noticed my workouts consisted heavily of
the three areas I enjoy working on the most; cardio, core, and my lower body. There were days that I
felt too sore to move, while other days I did not notice much pain at all. The most exciting part of
keeping track of my fitness was noticing the progress I continually made, the cardio consistently got
easier to finish each time, and the area specific workouts also got less

American Drinking Culture Essay
Often times, when people hear the word college , they visualize a lot of binge drinking. Alcohol does
have an impact on academic performance. After giving you my spiel of information, you may begin to
understand why the graduation rates are higher in Europe than they are in America.
The drinking culture in Europe is a lot different from the drinking culture in the United States. In
America, the drinking culture serves the purpose of getting drunk. The majority of college students in
American don t just casually drink. Instead, they drink as much as they can in order to have the best
time possible. In general, American students don t touch alcohol otherwise. Typically, the most casual
drinking that American students are exposed to are their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Casual drinking is something that is greatly appreciated, no matter where you go. It is normal to have
a pint or two every night at the pub. But if someone in America were to do that, we would accuse them
of being an alcoholic. Although the American drinking culture and the European drinking culture have
vastly different atmospheres, the basic principle of drinking remains the same: you do not have to get
hammered when you drink.
According to the World Health Organization, in many European countries where the drinking age is
18 or younger, teens have more drinking occasions per month, but fewer occasions of dangerous
intoxication than their American counterparts. One in ten of all drinking occasions result in
intoxication in southern European countries, whereas in America, nearly half of all drinking occasions
result in intoxication.
This also leads to problems with exchange students. A culture of casual drinking combined with a
lower drinking age makes it easy for American students to get carried away. The University of
Washington for Psychology of Addictive Behaviors reported that American students typically double
their alcohol consumption while abroad, from an average of four drinks a week to eight. While the
study was unable to determine in what capacity the students drank, the fact remains that the students
in the survey drank more while abroad. This does not come as a surprise, especially considering
American college students have a reputation of drinking heavily in the first

William Shakespeare s The Spanish Tragedy
Within literature, genre is determined by subject, setting and plot. In book shops and library s, books
are organized and categorised by genre, making it extremely easy for the reader to find exactly what
they are looking for. Generally, genre is very restricted often making writers feel as though they must
follow a specific set of rules and conventions if they want their piece of writing to fall into a particular
genre with a certain theme. Throughout my essay, I will look into how Thomas Kyd s The Spanish
Tragedy follows the traditional techniques we typically assume will be in a revenge tragedy, and how
Shakespeare s Hamlet follows these conventions as well as how Hamlet sometimes challenges the
typical conventions of revenge tragedy plays and pushes them. I will also discuss the notion of
revenge, as well as discuss how the two plays use the conventions of the genre to promote different
ways of thinking about the ethics of revenge.
Revenge tragedy was a popular genre of drama in the late 16th and 17th centuries in England. People
at this time enjoyed the blood and gore filled story lines typically featured in revenge tragedies.
Revenge tragedies in there very basic plots contain the quest for vengeance, where carnage, madness,
death of a loved one and mutilation are the very basic conventions which we expect to come across
when we are reading a piece of this popular genre. Both the Spanish Tragedy and Hamlet are well
known revenge tragedies following the same story

This places Nikeratos in the middle of the political turbulence involving Dionysios the Younger and
the rule of Syracuse. Faction fights begin which result in Dionysios exiling Dion. Plato is moved into
a house in Palace Park where Dionysios can keep a watchful eye on him. Nikeratos is also forced to
end his traveling around the country because of the fighting. Plato is later released when the
Carthaginians attack and war begins.
After several years, peace is declared. This is good news for Nikeratos and other actors because tours
can now be scheduled again. This allows Nikeratos to once again travel and interact with the powerful
people of the era. At the same time, Dionysios is resolved to have Plato return. Dionysios uses Plato s
loyalty to Dion as a method of manipulation. Dion encourages Plato to return to Syracuse in the hope
that Plato can secure his own return. When Plato refused to return to Syracuse, where he is hated and

Eventually, as the pressure Dionysios and Dion put on his friends builds, Plato agrees to return.
Despite the return, Dion s property is sold and Dionysios shows no sign of recalling him. Dionysios is

Examples Of Mise En Scene In The Matrix
The film The Matrix is considered to be a great science fiction and action film, as the special effects
were ahead of its time and the story is ageless. The Matrix was released on March 31, 1999. Although
many people are not aware of the mise en scene in the film, unknowingly it plays an important role in
the film. Without the setting, lighting, costume/makeup, and the behaviour of the figures, the film
would be uninteresting. The following essay will discuss how the maze cubicle office, the dark
lighting, the black costumes and sunglasses and the seriousness of the figures all contributes to the
theme of captivity verse freedom in the scene where Mr. Anderson tries to escape from Agent Smith
and his co workers.
Firstly, one of the elements of mise en scene is the setting. The setting takes place in an office. The
office is in a very high building and it looks like a maze cube. The setting is very realistic as many
companies use those maze cube offices, however, the use of the maze cube reflects the theme of
freedom verses captivity. Usually when people are in a maze they are trapped and are looking for a ...

The figures in this scene were very serious, they barely showed any emotion. Neo, on the other hand
displayed fear and terror, which contributes to the theme of captivity verses freedom. Consequently,
when looking at the behaviour of the figures it is evident that the director used the fear of Neo s fear to
evoke a feeling of concern in the viewer. Therefore, based on how the actors react provokes a feeling
of suspense within the viewer.
In conclusion, as we assess this specific scene in The Matrix it is evident how significantly the
director used the mise en scene to articulate the theme of captivity verses freedom in the film. The
mise en scene also creates a feeling of nervousness within the viewer that could not have been
achieved without the expert use of the mise en scene in the

Case 1 Bert owned an early historic speed boat which he decided to sell for $50,000. Bert told his
friend James and James said he was very interested and would Bert give James the first right to buy
the speed boat. Bert agreed to do so. After a few weeks Bert asked James if he still wanted to buy the
speed boat. James said he was seriously thinking about it. Bert told James he was going to advertise
the speed boat for sale at $60,000 or near offer on the Historic Speed Boat Club s notice board. In
response to the advertisement in the club Bert received a telephone call from Alphonse. Bert told
Alphonse the speed boat was for sale But someone has right of first refusal. Alphonse then expressed
surprise and asked Bert if he was selling or not. Bert said he was selling the speed boat for $60,000 or

inspecting the boat offered Bert $50,000 for it. Bert said he would have to speak to James before

Democracy Has Been Claimed As An Example Of Realism...
Marcus Aurelius once said, Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a
perspective, not the truth. Literature begs to give us a representation of truth but only real life succeeds
in showing the actual truth. One literary movement, realism, began out of the world s quest for truth
and reality in a time of confusion and rebuilding. Henry Adams novel Democracy has been claimed as
an example of realism literature; one can explore this claim through the lens of one particular passage:
In short, the artist is compelled to exhibit the world rather as we would wish it to be, than as it was, or
is, or, indeed, is like shortly to become (161). This historical novel addresses the United States attempt
at reconstruction following the country s civil war, in which it wrestles with questions of progress,
reality, and reconciliation with the past. The novel has been categorized as a realism narrative but
through close analysis it can be determined that this story of conflict does not fall under the criteria of
realism literature.
Realism is a literary movement that spans from 1860 up until to around 1890. This type of literature is
a reaction from society no longer agreeing with the Romantic mindset of idealism. The days had
passed of wishful, idealized, and fantastical versions of the how the masses viewed the world. Realism
is an effort to represent reality, document experience that is based in the here and now, with a focus on

Augmented Reality ( Vr )
Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are taking over our era, with new innovations using
the technology being released everyday. Both have had a sizable play in companies performances, and
have shaped and developed society from the beginning of their release. AR and VR technology take
aspects of the real world and apply it to technology in a three dimensional form, just in different ways.
Despite common misconceptions, these two ideas are not the same. VR is all screen generated work,
only including technological elements in its world that may resemble real life items. AR, on the other
hand, applies these elements to real life items, portraying an image onto an object you physically have
in front of you.
AR has had a specific impact on our society in general. From the Google Glass to the Hololens, it s no
surprise that companies like Google (GOOGL) and Microsoft (MSFT) are doing so well. But what if
we can use this technology for more? What if this technology could teach? What if it could save lives?

Organized Crime as the Main Factor that Led to Failure of Prohibition In January 1919 the 18th

many US citizens, some of them weren t even discovered. In a single year. The public still had the
benefit of drinking alcohol and when the saloons and shops selling alcohol were shut, the public found

against Prohibition were often let off mildly. Standard fines were about $130 and even serious
offenders were imprisoned for less than six months. A immense percentage of the country still drank

of this alcohol was not the type of alcohol that they were used to drinking which resulted in many
health problems. More employees were probably absent from work than before Prohibition, with

Difference Between Semiotic Analysis And Ethnography
This literature review examines the dynamics of two qualitative methods of research: semiotic
analysis and ethnography. The interdependence of these two methods, or as David Silverman (2011, p.

depth on how the two methods have an important role in shaping media and culture research and how
they contribute to the existing cultural production. Qualitative research is one of the kinds of research
conducted to analyse content such as media texts and industries. The other is quantitative research,
which is more concerned with statistical and numerical data. The former type of research mentioned

In 1965, Yale University undergraduate Fredrick W. Smith wrote a term paper that laid out the
logistical challenges facing pioneering firms in the information technology industry. Smith explained
in his term paper how companies using airfreight shippers relied on passenger route systems, but those
didn t make since. He proposed a system specifically designed to accommodate time sensitive
shipments. His teacher didn t find anything special about his term paper, so he received just an
average grade.
In August 1971, Smith bought controlling interest in Arkansas Aviation Sales located in Little Rock,

other airfreight delivered within one or two days. It was then when he set out to find a better way;
which was when Federal Express was born. Smith named the

To what extent is atheism naive? To what extent is atheism naive? well this question tends to be a
matter of opinion and in my opinion atheism is naïve to some extent if you look at it in the lens of the
argument posted. So firstly, what is atheism? Atheism is when you don t believe existence of God or
any other form of creator. While, theism is when you believe in the existence of God. For the past few
100 years there has been a constant debate on these two aspect, Atheism vs. Theism.

Emancipation Proclamation And The Fourteenth Amendment
Civil rights has been an important issue in American history, dating even before the signing of the
Declaration of Independence. In fact, it was one of the primary causes of the American Revolution, as
seen with the famous phrase no taxation without representation. The Emancipation Proclamation and
the Thirteenth Amendment further sparked a heated debate during the Reconstruction Era over the
civil protections of free blacks. These disputes led to additional legislation, such as the
implementation of the Fourteenth Amendment, to protect these citizens of the United States.
In the late 1800s, the nation was beginning to recover from the Civil War, during which blacks were

According to an analysis in the Chicago Kent Law Review, [Harlan] protested the Court s narrow
interpretation of the requirements of freedom under the Thirteenth Amendment. Since the institution
of slavery rested upon the inequality of those held in bondage, their freedom necessarily involved
immunity from, and protection against, all discrimination against them, because of their race, in
respect of such civil rights as belong to freemen of other races. In other words, Justice Harlan subtly
implies that the other justices simply ignored the Thirteenth Amendment entirely, focusing instead on
the rights of whites protected under the Fourteenth Amendment. This implication evinces the
influence of judicial activism in the Supreme Court s decision. Civil rights in the United States have
definitely changed since the decision of the Civil Rights Cases of 1883. While the Court s decision
shows the overreaching opinion of the people during this time, it is also clear by Justice Harlan s
dissent that the opinions of the people were, even then, changing and progressing, focusing on equal

The α glucose doesn t as it is more sterically hindered and disturbs the three dimensional arrangement

Is Homework Harmful
Homework, homework, homework feels more like stress, stress, stress to students. Specifically,
unnecessary stress due to unnecessary homework. Homework curses the lives of students everywhere,
destroying lives and happiness. Homework looms over students heads, waiting to strike in each class

Students do not have enough time for homework. Nowadays students have jobs, extracurricular

physically, students are completely exhausted and decide that the homework can be put on the

As with codas we find our final theme in the piece the part proceeding the measure of rest (see Figure

obviously playing what is the theme (see Figure 6), right before we see the second viola briefly mingle
with the cello.

After the brief return of theme two between the cello and violas we end happily on the tonic of the
piece. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. Not only this piece but also this assignment. It is one
thing to sit in class and read about and take notes over sonata allegro form. It is completely another to
be expected to dive deeper into a piece and try to figure out its inner most workings. As a violist I also
appreciate the fact that Mozart went against the normality of the cello quintet and wrote a viola
quintet. The fact he was willing to go against what was expected of him by society makes me respect
him as a composer even more. After a glimpse into the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, we have
discussed his Quintet No. 3 in C major. Discussed its themes and their placement, as well as briefly
the variations of these themes. We also saw a brief glimpse into history around the time that the K.

The Importance Of Intercultural Relationship
Intercultural Essay
This intercultural relationship took place this year. it was with one of my co workers. We have a

very happy to see each other, as this is the only time we really see each other. Outside of work, we are
both busy. This friendship is great, and is very balanced. We don t always agree with each other and
talk it out, but we also agree and feels good. With Kate our intercultural relationship changed within

Kate and I right away had some differences and were aware of them rather quickly. The first stage
which is racial/cultural awareness. We mostly agree, but they re times were we don t look eye to eye

stage which is, coping stage which develops proactive and reactive acts to achieve past their

acts. It made me push her away, as it was an ongoing process. I just wanted to understand why we
didn t hangout outside of work. I still don t know to this day, but we dropped it. Our reactive strategies
which only occur once the behavior occurs, is good as we overcome these well. The third stage which

process in the criminal justice system. The Prosecutor may ask the defendant for a guilty plea in

Many people are affected by the use of plea bargains in a positive way. For one defendants who could
be facing multiple charges and potential years in jail, has the potential to get multiple charges dropped
as well getting a significantly reduced sentence. In the judge s case, the advantage of accepting a plea
bargain agreement is that the judge does not need to schedule and hold a trial. Judges also know about
jails being overcrowded, so it is also in the public s interest to filter out the people who don t need to
be in jail for a long time out. The outcome of this process closes cases quicker than the expected pace
and also the court system would not be as overwhelmed with court cases. One of the major reasons
why people don t go to trial is because they realize receiving the maximum charge if they go to trial
will not be beneficial to them in the long run. Even those who are never rearrested, getting a charge
reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor can show to be a critical benefit. Some employers may

by MacArthur, which was Island Hopping . Island Hopping, a strategy developed by Douglas
MacArthur, was one of the most effective ways the Allies won the Pacific War. On the morning of

William James Philosophies Coinciding with Today s Psychology
An admitted Moral Psychologist , James s philosophies coincide with today s fields of Humanistic
Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, and Transpersonal Psychology.
He, like Jung, dared to look outside the normal experiences of the mind and expand the concepts of
consciousness. More particularly, William James attempted to describe the processes of the conscious
rather than the definition of the conscious. He was the first to introduce our nation to psychology as a
standard educational course and the founder of pragmatism which emphasizes the elimination of
unnecessary thinking and finding truth only if it is practically applicable. Practicality, James ... Show

The rationale of choice involves two levels of knowing knowledge of acquaintance (an intuitive,
sensory knowing) and knowledge about (intellectual, evaluative and factual knowing). James was
particularly interested in the habits of learning. He believed strongly that successful education was
dependent upon the establishment of healthy habits. Stages involved in establishing good personal
habits include: 1) a need or desire 2) information 3) repetition. Of course will is essential in
establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and strengthening of will were of
major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish this by practicing a useless task
daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing themselves into any activity. Desired
habits can be established with repetition. He does however recognize the occasional need to surrender
the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he believes, may induce a state of complete
unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is
defined by James as the place from which all our mental processes originate and through which all our
experiences are perceived. The layers of self include the Material Self (the part of us that defines and
identifies ourselves via material goods and relationships), the Social Self (similar to Jung s persona, is
the self we play in social encounters) and the

Theme Of Ode To A Nightingale
Ode to a Nightingale by John Keats
Ode to a Nightingale is a regular ode written by John Keats in 1819. The ode is the longest one with
eight stanzas with ten lines each. The poem was composed at Charles Brown s house after John Keats
heard a nightingale bird outside his window singing. This poem expresses different themes such as the
theme of mortality of human life, the theme of unhappiness and happiness, and various figures of
speech like symbolism, to support the themes.
Throughout this poem, Ode to a Nightingale, the author fully expresses the theme of mortality of
human life. In this ode, the speaker convinces himself into believing that the nightingale bird or its
song is immortal. After hearing the nightingale s song, the speaker ... Show more content on

For instance, the word nightingale appears in the title, but it is used as a symbol of beauty,
immortality, and freedom from the struggles of the world. The speaker also uses metaphors like the
metaphor of flight, to describe his imaginative journey to join the nightingale. Keats claims that he
flies on his metaphorical wings:
Away! Away! For I will fly to thee,
Not charioted by Bacchus and his pards,
But on the viewless wings of Poesy, (Keats, 31 33).
The speaker uses imagination to expresses his urge to get away. The symbolism and metaphors help to
show the theme of happiness and express the experience of nighttime through the nightingale
approach, surrounded by dark and fragrant trees. The poem, Ode to a Nightingale expresses various
themes like the theme of happiness and the theme of mortality of human life. Keats compares the life
of the nightingale living in the forest to the human life in the regular world. Throughout the poem, the
poet expresses both manic and quiet mood. Also, the title of the poem lets the reader know that it is an
ode, where he addresses the nightingale. The poet uses different figures of speech such as symbolism
and metaphor to bring out the themes of the

Stereotypes In Disney Film Pocahontas
Animated films are commonly regarded as innocent and enchanting with little influence on the
ideological beliefs that develop in children. Yet it is evident that this rhetoric is detrimental to the
understanding that children are highly susceptible to influences from film and lack necessary skills to
think critically. Thus, animated films instill ideologies within children that follow them throughout
their lives. The predominant white narrative within the Disney film Pocahontas misrepresents
Indigenous culture by portraying them as savage, bestial, and primitive caricatures while the
falsification of historical events sets to maintain the archetypical white Anglo Saxon supremacy,
creating hegemonic ideologies that decisively impact how Indigenous people are viewed negatively
within society and internally feel Otherized, causing confusion of personal identity. I will begin by
articulating how films provoke fantasy, fears, and social concerns to garner audiences for profitability.
These provocations are rooted in the ideologies of the dominant culture at the expense of Indigenous
peoples. I will then express how the Self (white men) and the Other (Indigenous people) are
segmented within Pocahontas and the effects this has on the relationship of Indigenous people to
society. Next, I will discuss how the false representation of historical events creates cultural hegemony
and reinforces categorization of Indigenous people. Lastly, I will demonstrate that the negative and

Deviant Globalization Analysis
Deviant globalization exists and is very much intertwined with mainstream globalization. Gilman,
Goldhammer, and Weber explain that it violates the norms and beliefs of our society like human
rights, violence, etc. Illicit activities are not a new occurrence. Since, both systems are getting more
efficient, they help the formal economy to grow and also the deviant one. Balaam and Dillman point
out examples from the history, such as colonization and piracy. Furthermore, human trafficking is one
example of the illicit international economy. The Economist (2017) story Fear on the border talks
about two Vietnamese young women who were drugged and sold to Chinese men for marriage.
According to Vietnamese officials, between 100 and 150 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The latter distinguishes between the voluntary exchanges between two parties, whereas those outside
the contract, find it deviant. Gilman, Goldhammer, and Weber talk about deviant globalization and the
reasons why the global rich and global poor are participating in such activities. For example, global
rich is not participating in the illicit activities to increase their wealth. They are acquiring perhaps
replacement organ or drugs. However, the global poor engage in deviant globalization in order to gain
wealth, climb out of poverty, and sometimes this is the only way for the entire community to
experience economic growth. Further, Ambagtsheer describes the organ trade that due to the long wait
time for organs, some people turn to black markets. This article points out that the average wait time
for an organ can be three to five years, but not everybody is strong enough to survive that long. As
Ambagtsheer explains, black markets exist parallel with the legal market for organs. What makes them
illegal is that the organs are sold for profit, whereas, the World Health Organization has guidelines to
explain why the organ sale is not allowed and legal. The bottom line is that valuing each human life,
the organ sale is unethical and immoral. Also, the black markets might take advantage of the poor and
most vulnerable people. However, according to Ambagtsheer, organ trade differs from other illicit
activities in that it also

Robotics Changes the World
Robotics Changes The World Robotic technology has taken an important role in our society since
many years ago. These recent days, scientists and engineers have been developing an automotive
technology that allows cars to park themselves without any troubles. Noel Sharkey (2008), a professor
of computer science at the University of Sheffield and an expert on robot science and techno games, in
The Ethical Frontiers of Robotics shows the unavoidable of the use of robots in the future and ethical
problems that come together (p. 357). According to Sharkey (2008), there are positive and negative
aspects of the robots use for care for children and the elderly, and the use of autonomous robots in the
military (p. 358). Sharkey claims that using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, many people will needed personal care robots one day. For example in Japan, there are
many children who are waiting for the vacancy of the publicly certified nursery schools. Many
children are on waiting list because the economic downturn has motivated most parents to work. If the
child minding robots were on the market, then most people would use child minding robot without
thinking of any causes that may happen to children. To avoid the children s isolation, people should
discuss and understand about the pros and cons of the child minding robots to protect the innocent
children. These past decades, the average life span has increased because of medical progress. The rise
of elderly population and the descent of younger caregiver cause to develop the eldercare robots.
Sharkey explains the different types of robots that are available in today s eldercare. There are the
Secom My Spoon automatic feeding robot, the Sanyo electric bathtub robot that automatically washes
and rinses, and the Mitsubishi Wakamura robot for monitoring, delivering messages, and reminding
about medicines (Sharkey, 2008, p. 359). Sharkey states that these robots assist the elderly to be able
to become independence at their house. However, these robots also assist elderly to become isolation
because the robots work instead of family or

Informative Essay About Anime
Anime, is a term that is used to represent Japanese animation (Lamarre 1). It is a combination of both
form of content and form of expression. However, there seems to be more emphasis on form of
content rather than expression when discussing anime. Form of content includes the genre, story and
narrative while form of expression includes the animation and the style. Form of content can be
described as what the audience is being shown and the message that is conveyed. On the other hand,
form of expression emphasizes how the animation is shown and as a means for the animation to be
shown. In this paper, the first episode of the television anime series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (also
known as Bishōjo Senshi Sērāmūn in Japanese), will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Sailor Moon is being introduced, the camera is moved up gradually from Usagi s bed to her
face. The camera remains on her face until she realizes she s late for school. Then, there is a sudden
zoom in of her alarm clock, a zoom in of Usagi, and a zoom out of her house. This emphasizes that s
late for school and she suddenly wakes up and runs down the stairs. As she runs down the stairs, a
selection process is used where only her legs are shown to be moving. As she speaks to her mom,
Usagi is the one moving while her mom remains still throughout most of the scene in the same
position, along with the background which is still aswell. However, when she is out the door and
running, the background moves along with her. This demonstrates a pull cels technique since the
single image is pulled across the background as Usagi is running towards school. There is also
stillness in the background in various scenes. When Usagi is kneeling on the street and contemplating
about showing her mother her test, we see people in the background. These people are still and do not
move, even when she Usagi walks down the road. During these type of scenes, sound would be the
carrier of information since the background is still. Thus, Usagi speaking is what conveys the
information to us rather than the illustration. Another scene which demonstrates more movement in
camera is when Usagi is home to show her mother her test. The dialogue between Usagi and

The author of the reading believes that the construction of the Moai led to the collapse of the civilization located there. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She thinks that the society on the island did not suffer as a result of the construction of the Moai. First of all, the author claims that the people of the island cut down vast amounts of valuable trees in order to build the statues. He notes that the Moai were moved across the island using wooden tracks and log rollers. This point is challenged by the lecturer. • 5. Isaac s Storm Essay In the Novel Isaac s Storm , the reader is told the tragic story of a hurricane that devastated the very prosperous city of Galveston in 1900. Throughout the book you are told the events leading up to the hurricane as well as an in depth look at the actions of certain individuals that greatly impacted the devastation of this horrific storm. This story begins with the introduction of Mr. Isaac Cline, a well educated Tennessee native, who served as the Chief Meteorologist in Galveston, Texas during the late 1800 s. Isaac and his Wife Cora May, as well as their four kids, lived in their newly built storm proof home alongside the Galveston Coast. Isaac took an interest in how weather affected people s health, and did so alongside his ever eager brother, Joseph. During Isaac s time as Chief Meteorologist, he helped lead the change in how modern Meteorologists study the weather today. Galveston, being a bountiful city, had the money to put into public works that would interest people into either living in or visiting Galveston. This busy city had intentions on becoming one of the most well known cities in the United States, a city that at the time could be compared to New York. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miami Beach The beautiful musical trio of waves crashing onto the perfectly golden dipped shore, seagulls cawing as they fly away to identify their next prey, and the shrills of children create a symphony for my ears. Whenever I am laying on the beach, I feel so serene; I feel as if I have no worries in the world. The beach is my sanctuary. It means I m at home. I m from Virginia Beach, and despite how far I am away from home, whether I m on Miami Beach or just a beach off of a lake, the beach gives off a domestic feeling. When I spent a week away from home in July at a summer camp on a lake, I didn t have any contact with my family at all. I constantly look around and see such bright, radiant colors of beach umbrellas, and you can hear children s laughter as they boogie board the beautiful blue waves back to shore. The beach is just a little getaway, and for me, it s like therapy. The beach has always meant the world to me, and I couldn t imagine being someone who hasn t even seen the ocean. Virginia Beach is all I ve ever known since I was born. The beach has such a sentimental value to me and whenever I go there, I do get feelings of nostalgia. I remember when my entire family would gather at the beach, and my cousins and I would play in the waves for hours or eat bright red watermelon as we build a fortress of a sandcastle. Not only do I visit the beach in the summer, but I go in the fall and winter as well. Some people may think I m crazy for going in freezing temperatures, but I don t swim; I walk around on the beach as I feel the cold sand against my feet. My favorite time to visit the beach in the off season is during hurricanes. I love looking at the 6 feet high waves crash onto the sand, and I love looking at the dark colors of the sky and ocean together. However, the sand blowing around from the harsh winds make it hard to admire everything all at once because the sand is almost piercing you like needles, but I feel like it s such a great experience ... • 8. Campin s Painting Comparison Both paintings focus around the same subject, Mary receiveing the news that she will be carrying Jesus by the Archangel Gabriel. Angelico s painting is a very large fresco. The painting is so large that Mary and Gabriel are almost life size. In comparison, Campin s painting is a triptych that is small and a portable oil painting. This portability brings us into a new era, where people want this type of art in their homes versus only being able to view them in a church. The left panel allows us to see the donors being nosey, the middle panel is the scene of the annunciation, and the right panel gives us a look at Joseph working. Angelico keeps his painting very simplistic with no flash or Christian symbolism in it. Many think that it is because of the location of the painting in a church. The area surrounding Gabriel and Mary is bare and flat. The focus is strictly on Mary and Garbriel who are technically to large spacially. They would not be able to move around in the area because of their size. Campin has created a piece that is full of Christian symbolism. The flowers on the table, the tools that Joseph uses, and baby Jesus floating in on sun rays heading toward Mary s womb are just a few examples. While Angelico kept his background simple and plan, Campin uses a background that makes the painting relatable for the viewer of that time. Campin uses a home that would have been modern and pays specific details to the surroundings. The textures and amount of detail that Campin puts into his painting make it feel plush and full of life. There will always be technological advancements that are replacing jobs. For example, automation in the manufacturing industry have replaced people in the workplace. Automation performs much more efficiently than a person performs. In this paper I am going to analyze the effects that automation has caused in the job market and how it will continue to affect various industries. I am also going to compare automation job loss and outsourcing job loss. And just recently Google won a patent to start building worker robots with personalities. There is a predisposition that robots and automation can do one thing and one thing only. There are currently machines that do many things that would take multiple people to do. In the near future cars may be able to drive themselves and cooking may be completely automated. There is no limit where automation could take us and depending on the perspective you take, its benefiting the world. It is clear by my examples above that automation reduces the amount of labor required to produce a good or service, it produces product more efficiently, and it promotes innovation in all industries. Is automation worth the job loss that it creates? Can jobs be created due to an increase in automation? The United States did indeed lose about 5.6 million manufacturing jobs between 2000 and 2010. But according to a study by the Center for Business and Economic Research at Ball State University, 85 percent of these jobs losses are actually attributable to technological change, largely automation, rather than international ... • 12. Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve... 12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and abjection to inspire poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize gruesome acts and remind us of man s capability for despicable amorality. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueen allows us to breathe for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously. Both enforce a separation between man and nature and emphasize the heinous through means of polar comparison, yet also tie visual beauty to the retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking sequences, Steven McQueen frequently uses a wide far shot and captures the blinding white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reflection Of The Finding Meaning, Joy And Happiness Project Upon completion of the requirements necessary to finish section one of the Finding Meaning, Joy and Happiness Project, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy tracking my daily habits became. Between the fitness log, eating log, and sleep log, I found it the most tedious to keep up with every workout I did. However, once I got into the mindset of tracking these three areas every day, it became increasingly easier to remember. The genetics/risk taking table also helped me to pinpoint potential risks my family is accustomed to and figure out different precautions I can take to limit my risk. The first section of this assignment was my Fitness Log, where I kept track of my specific activity for sixteen days, including what I did and how long I did it for. Initially, this log was the most difficult for me to keep track of. I have always been fairly adamant regarding my fitness schedule, so the activity itself was not a challenge. After completing the log, I got to look back and see the pattern of my workouts which helped me to better understand the results. I noticed my workouts consisted heavily of the three areas I enjoy working on the most; cardio, core, and my lower body. There were days that I felt too sore to move, while other days I did not notice much pain at all. The most exciting part of keeping track of my fitness was noticing the progress I continually made, the cardio consistently got easier to finish each time, and the area specific workouts also got less ... Casual drinking is something that is greatly appreciated, no matter where you go. It is normal to have a pint or two every night at the pub. But if someone in America were to do that, we would accuse them of being an alcoholic. Although the American drinking culture and the European drinking culture have vastly different atmospheres, the basic principle of drinking remains the same: you do not have to get hammered when you drink. According to the World Health Organization, in many European countries where the drinking age is 18 or younger, teens have more drinking occasions per month, but fewer occasions of dangerous intoxication than their American counterparts. One in ten of all drinking occasions result in intoxication in southern European countries, whereas in America, nearly half of all drinking occasions result in intoxication. This also leads to problems with exchange students. A culture of casual drinking combined with a lower drinking age makes it easy for American students to get carried away. The University of Washington for Psychology of Addictive Behaviors reported that American students typically double their alcohol consumption while abroad, from an average of four drinks a week to eight. While the study was unable to determine in what capacity the students drank, the fact remains that the students in the survey drank more while abroad. • 18. William Shakespeare s The Spanish Tragedy Within literature, genre is determined by subject, setting and plot. In book shops and library s, books are organized and categorised by genre, making it extremely easy for the reader to find exactly what they are looking for. Generally, genre is very restricted often making writers feel as though they must follow a specific set of rules and conventions if they want their piece of writing to fall into a particular genre with a certain theme. Throughout my essay, I will look into how Thomas Kyd s The Spanish Tragedy follows the traditional techniques we typically assume will be in a revenge tragedy, and how Shakespeare s Hamlet follows these conventions as well as how Hamlet sometimes challenges the typical conventions of revenge tragedy plays and pushes them. I will also discuss the notion of revenge, as well as discuss how the two plays use the conventions of the genre to promote different ways of thinking about the ethics of revenge. Revenge tragedy was a popular genre of drama in the late 16th and 17th centuries in England. People at this time enjoyed the blood and gore filled story lines typically featured in revenge tragedies. Revenge tragedies in there very basic plots contain the quest for vengeance, where carnage, madness, death of a loved one and mutilation are the very basic conventions which we expect to come across when we are reading a piece of this popular genre. Both the Spanish Tragedy and Hamlet are well known revenge tragedies following the same story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plato is later released when the Carthaginians attack and war begins. After several years, peace is declared. This is good news for Nikeratos and other actors because tours can now be scheduled again. This allows Nikeratos to once again travel and interact with the powerful people of the era. At the same time, Dionysios is resolved to have Plato return. Dionysios uses Plato s loyalty to Dion as a method of manipulation. Dion encourages Plato to return to Syracuse in the hope that Plato can secure his own return. When Plato refused to return to Syracuse, where he is hated and threatened by the soldiers, his relationship with Dion becomes strained. Eventually, as the pressure Dionysios and Dion put on his friends builds, Plato agrees to return. Despite the return, Dion s property is sold and Dionysios shows no sign of recalling him. Although many people are not aware of the mise en scene in the film, unknowingly it plays an important role in the film. Without the setting, lighting, costume/makeup, and the behaviour of the figures, the film would be uninteresting. The following essay will discuss how the maze cubicle office, the dark lighting, the black costumes and sunglasses and the seriousness of the figures all contributes to the theme of captivity verse freedom in the scene where Mr. Anderson tries to escape from Agent Smith and his co workers. Firstly, one of the elements of mise en scene is the setting. The setting takes place in an office. The office is in a very high building and it looks like a maze cube. The setting is very realistic as many companies use those maze cube offices, however, the use of the maze cube reflects the theme of freedom verses captivity. Literature begs to give us a representation of truth but only real life succeeds in showing the actual truth. One literary movement, realism, began out of the world s quest for truth and reality in a time of confusion and rebuilding. Henry Adams novel Democracy has been claimed as an example of realism literature; one can explore this claim through the lens of one particular passage: In short, the artist is compelled to exhibit the world rather as we would wish it to be, than as it was, or is, or, indeed, is like shortly to become (161). This historical novel addresses the United States attempt at reconstruction following the country s civil war, in which it wrestles with questions of progress, reality, and reconciliation with the past. The novel has been categorized as a realism narrative but through close analysis it can be determined that this story of conflict does not fall under the criteria of realism literature. Realism is a literary movement that spans from 1860 up until to around 1890. This type of literature is a reaction from society no longer agreeing with the Romantic mindset of idealism. • 40. The Importance Of Intercultural Relationship Intercultural Essay This intercultural relationship took place this year. it was with one of my co workers. We have a friendship relationship and clicked pretty well together and rather fast. When we work together we are very happy to see each other, as this is the only time we really see each other. Outside of work, we are both busy. This friendship is great, and is very balanced. We don t always agree with each other and talk it out, but we also agree and feels good. With Kate our intercultural relationship changed within stages over time, developed feelings and situations through the relationship, and key concepts. Kate and I right away had some differences and were aware of them rather quickly. The first stage which is racial/cultural awareness. We mostly agree, but they re times were we don t look eye to eye on something. It s very different, as we do to better ourselves and learn from each other. The second stage which is, coping stage which develops proactive and reactive acts to achieve past their challenges. This was a bad stage for our intercultural relationship was when I was doing proactive acts. It made me push her away, as it was an ongoing process. I just wanted to understand why we didn t hangout outside of work. I still don t know to this day, but we dropped it. Our reactive strategies which only occur once the behavior occurs, is good as we overcome these well. The third stage which is identity emergence is taking charge of the images of themselves ... For one defendants who could be facing multiple charges and potential years in jail, has the potential to get multiple charges dropped as well getting a significantly reduced sentence. In the judge s case, the advantage of accepting a plea bargain agreement is that the judge does not need to schedule and hold a trial. Judges also know about jails being overcrowded, so it is also in the public s interest to filter out the people who don t need to be in jail for a long time out. The outcome of this process closes cases quicker than the expected pace and also the court system would not be as overwhelmed with court cases. One of the major reasons why people don t go to trial is because they realize receiving the maximum charge if they go to trial will not be beneficial to them in the long run. Even those who are never rearrested, getting a charge reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor can show to be a critical benefit. Some employers may certainly not want to hire someone who was convicted of a felony. Felony convictions may be used in certain court proceedings to discredit people who testify as ... William James Philosophies Coinciding with Today s Psychology An admitted Moral Psychologist , James s philosophies coincide with today s fields of Humanistic Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, and Transpersonal Psychology. He, like Jung, dared to look outside the normal experiences of the mind and expand the concepts of consciousness. More particularly, William James attempted to describe the processes of the conscious rather than the definition of the conscious. He was the first to introduce our nation to psychology as a standard educational course and the founder of pragmatism which emphasizes the elimination of unnecessary thinking and finding truth only if it is practically applicable. The rationale of choice involves two levels of knowing knowledge of acquaintance (an intuitive, sensory knowing) and knowledge about (intellectual, evaluative and factual knowing). James was particularly interested in the habits of learning. He believed strongly that successful education was dependent upon the establishment of healthy habits. Stages involved in establishing good personal habits include: 1) a need or desire 2) information 3) repetition. Of course will is essential in establishing good habits (or breaking bad habits) so the training and strengthening of will were of major concern for James. He proposed that individuals accomplish this by practicing a useless task daily in order to train and proof themselves capable of willing themselves into any activity. Desired habits can be established with repetition. He does however recognize the occasional need to surrender the will and allow events to occur naturally. This, he believes, may induce a state of complete unification, or total oneness of self, and may require or lead to a transcendent state of mind. Self is defined by James as the place from which all our mental processes originate and through which all our experiences are perceived. The layers of self include the Material Self (the part of us that defines and identifies ourselves via material goods and relationships), the Social Self (similar to Jung s persona, is the self we play in social encounters) and the ... • 45. Stereotypes In Disney Film Pocahontas Animated films are commonly regarded as innocent and enchanting with little influence on the ideological beliefs that develop in children. Yet it is evident that this rhetoric is detrimental to the understanding that children are highly susceptible to influences from film and lack necessary skills to think critically. Thus, animated films instill ideologies within children that follow them throughout their lives. The predominant white narrative within the Disney film Pocahontas misrepresents Indigenous culture by portraying them as savage, bestial, and primitive caricatures while the falsification of historical events sets to maintain the archetypical white Anglo Saxon supremacy, creating hegemonic ideologies that decisively impact how Indigenous people are viewed negatively within society and internally feel Otherized, causing confusion of personal identity. I will begin by articulating how films provoke fantasy, fears, and social concerns to garner audiences for profitability. These provocations are rooted in the ideologies of the dominant culture at the expense of Indigenous peoples. I will then express how the Self (white men) and the Other (Indigenous people) are segmented within Pocahontas and the effects this has on the relationship of Indigenous people to society. Next, I will discuss how the false representation of historical events creates cultural hegemony and reinforces categorization of Indigenous people. Lastly, I will demonstrate that the negative and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This article points out that the average wait time for an organ can be three to five years, but not everybody is strong enough to survive that long. As Ambagtsheer explains, black markets exist parallel with the legal market for organs. What makes them illegal is that the organs are sold for profit, whereas, the World Health Organization has guidelines to explain why the organ sale is not allowed and legal. The bottom line is that valuing each human life, the organ sale is unethical and immoral. Also, the black markets might take advantage of the poor and most vulnerable people. • 49. Informative Essay About Anime Anime, is a term that is used to represent Japanese animation (Lamarre 1). It is a combination of both form of content and form of expression. However, there seems to be more emphasis on form of content rather than expression when discussing anime. Form of content includes the genre, story and narrative while form of expression includes the animation and the style. Form of content can be described as what the audience is being shown and the message that is conveyed. On the other hand, form of expression emphasizes how the animation is shown and as a means for the animation to be shown. When Sailor Moon is being introduced, the camera is moved up gradually from Usagi s bed to her face. The camera remains on her face until she realizes she s late for school. Then, there is a sudden zoom in of her alarm clock, a zoom in of Usagi, and a zoom out of her house. This emphasizes that s late for school and she suddenly wakes up and runs down the stairs. As she runs down the stairs, a selection process is used where only her legs are shown to be moving. As she speaks to her mom, Usagi is the one moving while her mom remains still throughout most of the scene in the same position, along with the background which is still aswell. However, when she is out the door and running, the background moves along with her. This demonstrates a pull cels technique since the single image is pulled across the background as Usagi is running towards school. There is also stillness in the background in various scenes. When Usagi is kneeling on the street and contemplating about showing her mother her test, we see people in the background. These people are still and do not move, even when she Usagi walks down the road. During these type of scenes, sound would be the carrier of information since the background is still. Thus, Usagi speaking is what conveys the information to us rather than the illustration. Another scene which demonstrates more movement in camera is when Usagi is home to show her mother her test.
