Ralph Waldo Emerson Beliefs
During the Transcendentalist movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson s famous quote in his booklet,
Nature, gave a lot of insight on the identity of the human race. His quote, A man is a god in ruins
indicates a sense of the fallen nature, and really emphasizes our faults and our limits, and many
authors during this time person also seemed to follow this philosophy. In Ralph Waldo Emersons
other work, Self Reliance, he is also able to capture this same essence from text to text. In addition
to Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorneand Herman Melville all follow the same
philosophy in their own respective texts. The reader is able to see a common theme consistently
throughout Self Reliance, Economy (in Walden), The Artist of the Beautiful and Bartleby the
Scrivener and Benito Cereno. Throughout each of these texts, the reader essentially focuses on how
the nature of the human race focuses on how we are more than ordinary stone ruins, but we are
lesser than Gods. The optimism of Emerson s quote exploring the nature of the human person is
depicted in their own way and different writing style throughout all of these different texts. In Ralph
Waldo Emerson s booklet, Nature, his quote A man is a god in ruins, is famously known coming
from the Transcendentalist movement. Emerson stays on the same theme about the human race in
his text, Self Reliance. Emerson is extremely insistent on the human race to be themselves and their
own individual. He reflects how easy it is

Analysis of The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan Essay
Analysis of The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan
John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress is an allegorical story about the Christian religion. It
allegorizes the journey of a Christian into the Celestial City, which represents heaven. Although
Pilgrim s Progress may seem simple and straightforward, there are many deeper meanings
throughout the whole story. Bunyan uses the names of his characters to signify whom the character
represents in the story, for example, the character Hopeful represents hopefulness, Help represents
people who are willing to help others in need of assistance, Faithful represents people who are
faithful to whatever they are associated with, and the main character, Christian, represents all young

Christian cries out for Faithful to stop and wait so they can be companions along their travel,
but Faithful replies, No, I am upon my life, and the avenger of blood is behind me (60). In the
story, the life he is trying to save is his real, tangible life. But his running away from the avenger
of blood to save his life actually symbolizes saving Faithful s spiritual life. Because he has sinned
and broken the Ten Commandment, You shall not kill, he is now being chased by death and if
caught, he will kill Faithful; this death characterizes the death of eternal life and therefore not being
able to enter heaven (Deuteronomy 5:17). In the bible there is a passage that talks about the
avenger of blood and who is he. This is the provision for the manslayer, who by fleeing there may
save his life. If anyone kills his neighbor unintentionally without having been at enmity with him in
time past #8230;he may flee to one of these cities and save his life; lest the avenger of blood in hot
anger pursue the manslayer and overtake him (Deuteronomy 19:4 6). Jesus Christ was born without
sin, and never sinned throughout his lifetime. Faithful, however, who although did not try to kill
his neighbor, killed him unintentionally and therefore, sinned. Jesus would never have caused pain
to any living creatures, neither accidentally nor deliberately. This is one example of how Faithful
differs from Christ.

Ellis Island First Person Creative Essay
This is a creative essay on Ellis Island, describing life as an immigrant who went to Ellis Island
through first person. All facts and dates are historically correct.
I come from Spain. My name is Carmina Diaz.
I immigrated because of the Cristero War, in Spain. The war was actually a rebellion of the Roman
Catholics in Spain who were persecuted by the government. There were dangers such as raids and
the death toll was growing higher every day. Being a Catholic Christian family who simply wanted
to live in peace, we moved out to escape the war and the persecution that had caused it.
We travelled from our hometown in Spain, a place called Badajoz in a train to Lisboa, Spain.
Lisboa had a harbor and from there we boarded the ship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I stayed healthy but I wondered if the more sick would make it into America.
Now focusing on some of the more tasteful parts of the voyage. I m normally quite shy. Living so
close to others breeds annoyance and irritation, especially towards those others, but I did make a
few friends. There was this bouncy girl, also from Spain, called Carlotta. She spoke Portuguese
as well as Spanish and introduced me to her good friend Sancho from Portugal. We all became
friends and discussed our homelands and topics like school and cultural differences. We were
amazed at how different our lives were. Yet we were friends on board.
Reaching Ellis Island
When the ship finally arrived at America. I was feeling excited yet apprehensive. I felt excited to
see this new world that had been all the talk on the ship. However, worry was practically eating
my insides; where would we go? What would we do? Would wild animals attack us? How would
we earn our living? Would there be savages waiting for us? Where were we landing? Would we
be sent back? What would the people be like? Would I still be able to go to school? Would we
have to live off the land? (If so, I could take Carlotta and Sancho with me)! I could not bear the
thought of another few weeks cooped up in that ship. Of course, I was nervous, and there were
butterflies in my stomach, too!
In my imagination, America had been a wild and dangerous jungle. I was disappointed when I saw
the reality. New York had a perfectly

Thus the building of the famous Canals and the Jordaans started. During the 1600 s Amsterdam
s population was growing rapidly. It quickly became necessary to increase in size in order to
accommodate the abundance of new occupants. The community now know as the Jordaans was
built in 1612 in the western part of Grachtengordel, it was decided that this area would be for the
working class. All of the streets and building were developed around old trails and ditches which
is why it looks different from the rest of Amsterdam. The first residence of the Jordanns were
fortunate that at the time there was much need for sailors, carpenters and other workers. Soon
small rooms and attics were being rented out to whole families, due to lack of housing. Home
owners began adding on extra rooms, building up making the streets appear narrower. Back houses
were also constructed and were reachable through small ally ways that were no more than one
meter wide. Most tenets of the Jordaans wanted to escape the crowded streets and poverty that

Musical Analysis Gcse
The thing that makes musicals so different amongst other films is that it builds a story from
works of original music. I admire the ability to write a piece of music, but I admire it even more
when another composer comes in with the same piece of music and the sound comes out
completely different. In a way they enhance the sound and perfect upon it. Moulin Rouge is an
excellent example of this. The writers and composers combine elements of theater, opera, traditional
cinema, and numerous elements of pop culture to create an almost completely new genre of film. It
isn t about the weary and corrupt, but rather romantics, with bohemian ideals, who believe in a
more glamorous life who see the nightclub not as a shabby tourist trap but as a... Show more content

The tenor voice of Alessandro Safina sings backup vocals, as well as choral accompaniment of
the Metro Voices (Discogs, 2017). Satine sings a reprise of Your Song in the subsequent scene
to the actual Duke she mistook Christian for moments earlier. Her soprano voice, light and
feminine, performs with simple elegance. Heard in this scene is a combination of Marius
Devries composition of Meet Me in the Red Room and a stanza from Children of the Revolution
(IMDb, 2017). A more satirical and comical can can approach takes hold of the movie for a
while, highlighted by the frenzied and enjoyably devious medley called The Pitch (Wikipedia,
2017). Cleaver to touch on the Shakespearean style of putting a play inside of another play,
because it seems to be a use of foreshadowing, in that most characters die tragically in his plays,
just as Satine will die in this one. A very fast paced Spectacular Spectacular/ The Pitch uses a
combination of The Can Can, The Sound of Music, and Your Song, and appears to be the only
song not adapted to the film, because it features original lyrics, and incorporates the vocals of all
major characters in this very wildly hilarious performance (Discogs, 2017). This scene is scored
with an extremely warm piano performance by Armstrong. As Zidler is throwing the bait to the
Duke for The Pitch or Spectacular Spectacular, swirling from one side of him to the other, dashing
front to behind the Duke, all this to emphasize the Duke s confusion about what s going on and to

The Dual Meaning Of The Closet
Henry Urbach uncovers the dual meaning of the closet as an architectural container and
metaphoric location to mask sexual identity. As an architectural container, the closet is a place
where things are stored. Putting away things that are not needed or wanted for display. The
closet allows a room to look cleaner and less clutter. Centuries ago closets were mainly wardrobes,
how do closets from today s society compare to closet wardrobes that were used years ago?
Typically we say your clothes are in the closet or the towels are in the closet but when people
say, Jake has come out of the closet we don t literally mean he walked out of a closet unit, but he
or she has revealed their sexual identity. This phrase is used because being... Show more content on

The term coming out of the closet is from the 20th century. It is hard for the person to come out
with who they really are. Although the decision to come out is a personal one, disclosure has
been facilitated by a variety of institutions and social movements: The re appropriation of
stigmatizing labels, (finding words that are less pejorative to describe a stigmatized group)
advocacy and support groups (a second social phenomenon that facilitates disclosure is the
advocacy and support groups made up of people who are out) and outing (a third phenomenon
related to disclosure is outing). (Corrigan, P .2003) According to Rosario, Schrimshaw, Hunter,
Braun (2006), the development of a lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) sexual identity is a complex
and often difficult process. Unlike members of other minority groups (e.g., ethnic and racial
minorities), most LGB individuals are not raised in a community of similar others from whom they
learn about their identity and who reinforce and support that identity. Rather, LGB individuals are
often raised in communities that are either ignorant of or openly hostile toward

Aphorism
The way I live my life is mostly a train wreck. Puberty doesn t help and I oversleep. Regardless,
my life is the best because of the way I live it. Since life is a mess, I carry pride in the way that I
get excited over the little things and always attempt to have a positive attitude. If you re doing
what makes you happy, do that and nothing else. The reason this aphorism is really important is
because copious amounts of people don t live their life the way they want to. There are countless
amounts of people who have jobs they hate, situations they feel forced into, and many lost
opportunities because they feel they should be doing something else instead. If you want to go to

other pointless objects. It definitely makes an impact on your happiness. When I m really down
I can easily go back to the small things and instantly laugh at myself for the silliness of it all. It
boosts my mood and will often last for over half of the day. The small things go so far, where
they even become much larger in significance. Any situation will turn out 70% similar to what
your attitude is. Attitude is spread easily and caught just as easily. If you start a project or any
activity with a hidebound attitude, you re going to finish with the same attitude. Being positive
also helps if you re battling a mental illness or just struggling with a homework assignment. So
remain sanguine and remember during the midst of hardship everything will be okay . Put on

Memory E. B White Analysis
I believe E. B. White was successful in creating a piece about memory. The use of his descriptive
sentence structure throughout the piece transported the reader to that very lake in Maine he wrote
of. Furthermore I felt as if I was there watching it happen in front of me. He thoroughly described
each setting in such great detail that I recalled memories of my own with my father. We would go
camping and fishing on a lake in South Carolina much similar to the one E.B. White described.
These trips took place in the month of July when the heat was at its peak, mosquitoes abound,
crickets and frogs sang in unison, the smell of DEET smothered all over my body and the late
evening thunderstorms which brought wind, rain and lightning. These were some

Female Composers And Performers Were Not Very Common

Female composers and performers were not very common. If you look back on famous
composers, you will find that there are mostly male composers. Out of the shadows of the
males, came in very known composer. Her name was Clara Schumann. Not only was she a
composer, but she was also a famous pianist. Clara started piano at a very young age. A big part of
Clara s life was her family. She was a very brilliant composer and pianist, and that is why we
remember her today as one of the most famous composers.

Australia s International Obligations Analysis
Australia s international obligations are framed by the United Nations, as this organisation is
paramount to enforcing international law and fundamental human rights. The United Nations (UN)
was founded in 1945, shortly after World War II, by a group of representatives from fifty nations.
Their motive was to establish a stable forum in which international issues could be discussed and
prevent wars between powerful nations. The power and purpose of the UN is bound by its founding
charter, similar to a constitution, containing one hundred and eleven articles which authorize the
rights and obligations of members (United Nations, 2017). All states are of equal sovereignty and
each state in the General Assembly is entitled to one vote regardless... Show more content on

Australia s international obligations extend extra territorially according to these agreements and
Australia is legally responsible for any contravention of obligations, regardless of whether or not an
Australian official was liable. However, the international obligations vary significantly between
Australia, PNG and Nauru, creating much difficulty in terms of effectively implementing these
obligations. For instance, Nauru is not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, nor do they have the
domestic legal structure to implement such obligations, due to the impoverished state of the
country (Dr Hathaway, 2016). PNG faces similar challenges in regards to the socio economic state
of the country and struggles to implement such obligations, despite being a signatory to the Refugee
Convention. Neither of these designated offshore processing states have the legal capacity to
uphold international obligations, thus creating great potential for violations of these obligations
(Archbold, 2015). This impacts the Australian government as it is difficult to regulate activity in
the regional processing centres and if obligations were to be breached, the government would be
responsible regardless of who contravened. The Hon Chris Bowen MP commented on this issue,
claiming that

Summary Of The BookThe Guest By Albert Camus
During the mid twentieth century, Algeria was trying to gain independence from France. It was
writers like Albert Camus who gave the world of taste of what was happening in their country at
that time through literature. He used knowledge and experiences to create stories and plays that
captured Alergia and the period of war they were in. Camus dominated the mid twentieth century
intellectually and artistically. Albert Camusgrew up with a strict belief in human freedom, which is
evident through his short story The Guest.
Growing up Albert Camus did not have an ordinary life. His family was not as fortunate as other
families. He grew up poor and was raised solely by his mother due to his father dying during
World War I. He was born in French Algeria. His mother was of Spanish descent and his father
was from France (Heims). Camus never let this be a disadvantage to his career or interfere with it.
He said Poverty was never a misfortune for me: it was radiant with light. Even my revolts were
brilliant with sunshine. They were almost always....revolts for everyone, so that life might be lifted
into that light (Heims). He used this through his career and it shows through his works.
During his life, Algeria was at war. Camus was torn apart personally and intellectually by this
war. He was from Spanish and French descent, however he grew up in Algeria (Taylor). At this
time it was still a French colony and Algeria was part of France for over a hundred years. Muslims

International Students Cope With Eating American Cuisine...
Summary Paragraph: One of the many issues that international students face is coping with
American food. With food being linked to culture, international students must face one of the
hardest tasks when coming to America, eating someone else s culture while neglecting their own. In
this research project, I will investigate how international students cope with eating American cuisine
or what measures they take to avoid it. Introduction: Nothing represents a culture better than food.
Food is the fastest way for people to bond and experience one another s culture. Thousands of
students travel from international colleges and universities. These people spend most of their life
eating different foods, foods that they are accustomed to and are naturally born to like. Before
starting college, I never gave any thought of how international students feel about consuming food
of another culture for entire year or in some cases, for multiple years. This is what gave me the idea
to study the culture of international students, including their practices and daily routines. According
to The Kansas State Collegian [daily newspaper at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas],
international students attending the University share a fear of gaining weight from eating
American food. American food is portrayed to them as greasy and not very diverse . Tang, an
international student, who attends KSU claims that in China, her friends would worry for her
weight, making her watch what she

I woke up that hot summer day and decided that it was time I go out and apply for some jobs. I

years waiting and waiting not hearing a thing, until finally I got the call. I remember walking in for

As I walked in I was greeted by the store manager a middle aged woman with wildly frizzy hair,

How Did Great Britain Create Tension Between 1815 And 1914
The 1800s were ruled by the industrial revolution, the innovation of new technology and weaponry,

These ten events, in Great Britain, that transpired between 1815 and 1914 contributed to the

Group Description
I will be designing a twelve week support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. The
purpose of support groups is to help members cope with stressful life events and revitalize existing
coping abilities (Toseland) but the purpose of this specific support group will be to give members
involved a sense of normality and a feeling of belonging. Within such a tragedy it isn t uncommon
to let the grief transcend into a depression or isolation, but it s proven that human relationships (i.e
groups) can provide the needed support for individuals to work through their grief and heal. The
issue addressed will be moving forward after the loss of a loved one.

Taking a Closer Look at the Aztec Civilization Essays
The Aztecs were a very warlike people, but were very influential to our civilization. They lived in
present day Mexico about 800 years ago. At first, they were a mostly nomadic civilization and that
lasted about 100 years. Then they developed the first, and capital, city, TenochtitlГЎn. They
developed many new types of government, religion, culture, technology, economy, and geography,
as well as the calendar and new mathematical techniques. The Aztecs were skilled writers, builders,
artists, and craftsmen. They wrote in pictures, built towering temples for worship, and made

The Pros And Cons Of Red Meat
Secret. For the longest, a hot topic debate has always been that regular consumption of red meat
was healthy. A video titled What is Veganism to think we have such a thing called a

more factories are being exposed to the awful way of treating and feeding their livestock, people are
finding alternatives to the meatthese horrific places produce. The ways the factories maintain their
livestock has resulted in the development of cancer to those who consume their products. To those
dairy addict s, milk, cheeses, and yogurt are not an exception. Meat consumers should be vegans
because it will benefit their lives and be cruelty free. The amount of torture put animals through is
something that can be avoided. People who constantly consume meat are running in a dark room
unaware of the serious consequences of consuming animal flesh. These people need to stop this
tyranny by throwing away all the food in their fridge that comes from an animal and switch to a
vegan diet. Every time people consume processed meat, they are putting carcinogens in their body,
which results in serious health complication. A recent study that states that there is limited

Discovery is the act of detecting something new, or something old that had been unrecognised as

ABSTRACT Presented within is a synopsis of the conceptual design, analysis and testing of a
camless engine (CLE) with an electro hydraulic valve train. The system makes use of a
piezoelectric controlled hydraulic actuator. This actuator serves as a replacement for the camshaft
in an internal combustion engine (ICE). In essence, the actuator is an electro hydraulic device

The concept of variable valve timing has existed for some time. Unfortunately, the ability to
achieve truly variable valve timing has eluded automotive manufacturers. Most variable timing
mechanisms were created as tools for the automotive engineer. Their use was limited to the
laboratory as a means of testing multiple, virtual cam profiles. These early camless engines
allowed for the designers to choose the best cams for the engine under scrutiny, but were less than
energy efficient. Furthermore, they were laboratory machines and were not capable of being mass
produced or utilized in an automobile. There have been a few attempts at developing production
models of camless engines, most notably by Ford, but the use of solenoids has impeded their
implementation. Using solenoids to control hydraulic fluid and ultimately the opening and closing
of the engine valves introduces its own limitations. The solenoids consume considerable energy and
are a binary control device they are either on or off. Therefore the hydraulic fluid, controlled
LIMITATIONS OF THE CAM: NEED FOR VARIABLE VALVE TIMING
Automobile manufacturers have recognized the compromises associated with
by the solenoids, is either flowing or blocked. This design allows for some variance of valve
timing, but is still limited by the response capabilities of the solenoids. Furthermore, it cannot
directly address valve velocity or displacement changes.

The Ethical Issues Of Physician Assisted Suicide
Physician Assisted Suicide
Physician Assisted Suicide Is it Right or Wrong? The ethical issues of physician assisted suicide
are both emotional and controversial, as it ranks right up there with abortion. Some argue physician
assisted suicide is ethically permissible for a dying person who has choosing to escape the
unbearable suffering at the end of life. Furthermore, it is the physician s duty to alleviate the
patients suffering, which at times justifies providing aid in dying. These arguments rely a great
deal on the respect for individual autonomy, which recognizes the rights of competent people to
choose the timing and manner of their death, when faced with terminal illness.
Others have argued that physician assisted suicide is not ethically permissible, because it contradicts
the traditional duty of physician s to preserve life and to do no harm. Furthermore, many argue that
if physician assisted suicide is legalized, abuses would take place, because as social forces
condone the practice, it will lead to slippery slope that forces (PAS) on the disabled, elderly, and
the poor, instead of providing more complex and expensive palliative care. While these arguments
continue with no end in sight, more and more of the terminally ill cry out in agony, for the right to
end their own suffering.
While the main issue that surrounds physician assisted suicide is pain control, for the terminally ill,
proponents are still unwilling to compromise. However, if both proponents and

Food Insecurity In Australia Essay
The global population is expected to reach 9 billion people by the year 2050 and scientific
projections indicate that world is on a trajectory towards an environmental and global food crisis.
World Leaders, environmental enthusiasts and aid agencies have cause for alarm as they support
urgent policies for change, for without them mankind will face unprecedented food insecurity. In
2015 estimates were that there were some 795 million people [World Food Programme, 2015],
experiencing food insecurity and 3.1 million children under 5 died through malnutrition, while
Australians continue to waste an estimated 361 Kg s of food per person per yr [PMSEIC, 2010,

The concerns for the 5% of the Australian population who are currently facing food insecurity are
predominantly due to reduced access to nutritious food, particularly in rural and remote areas and
low socio economic issues around affordability. However as a nation, Australia has more food than
it needs and as such has numerous for opportunities for trade, including wheat, barley, diary and
beef.
While the majority of Australians live with food security, the long term forecast shows our current
food resources will be insufficient to feed the increased population, especially with alarming
climate change forecasts, nor is the demand sustainable for the environment, particularly in the beef
industry. The real cost of beef is not understood by most consumers, which could be because this
country has not experienced shortages sufficient to demand radical diet changes. Beef has been a

Germination of Cress Seeds
Background point 1:
There are several conditions that affect the germination of seeds. Most factors are external but there
are also some internal conditions that affect the germination of seeds, even though this is quite rare.
The most common and the most important external conditions and factors that affect the germination
of seeds are oxygen, water, temperature and also in some cases light or darkness. Some plants
require several variables for successful seed germination. As this is quite rare, this often depends on
the individual seed and its natural habit.
Let s focus on the most important factors that affect germination of seeds.
Firstly we have oxygen which is required by the seed that is germinating for metabolism. The ...

Background point 2:
In the world, there are two basic sorts of seed and they have been named monocotyledon
respectively dicotyledon. Dicot seed contains of two parts which have been named cotyledons.
Their job is to supply the food for the growing of the young plant. An excellent example of a dicot
seed is the bean seed. Dicot seeds consist of an outside cover, called seed coat, and also an embryo
inside the bean. The Greek word for two is dis , and that is where we get di from.
Seed which consists of only a single cotyledon are known as monocots. A corn seed is a very good
example of a monocot. The seed of a monocot stays in one piece and does not split up. As the
bean seed, the corn seed also has a seed coat, but this coat doesn t get off as easily. There is as well
a part of the seed called the endosperm and this is the part where the monocot plants store their
food. The Greek word for one is monos , and that s where we get mono from.
Of course seeds consist of several components, but the three main and most significant parts are the
seed coat, the endosperm and the embryo.
The outer membrane of the seed is known as the seed coat and that is the part of the seed that is
visible. The coat of the seed is often hard and very difficult to break. The outer membrane s
function is to protect the sensitive parts that are inside the seed from diseases and common
damages. Even though all seeds have a seed coat, there is

Anthropology and Archaeology, the Pleistocene, or the Ice Age, was a period 1.8 mya 10,000 ya
marked by drastic fluctuations of climate change across Earth. The Pleistocene alternated between
extreme periods of glaciations and interglacials. During glaciations, temperatures dropped
drastically. In northern continents this drop in temperature led to mass accumulations of ice,
measuring nearly a mile thick; however, these glaciers were not seen everywhere. In Africa,
glaciations led to more arid and dry climates. Interglacials, on the other hand, were periods of

During both the Early Pleistocene and the Middle Pleistocene, we see a number of hominins that
paved the way to modern human development (Boaz Ciochon, 2004). One of these hominins is
Homo erectus (Lewis et al., 2013). According to Lewis (2013) while it is probable that they first
developed developed in Africa, it also . . . seems likely that H. erectus first arose in East Africa
and then very quickly migrated to other continents ; however, it is hard to prove this hypothesis
as new fossils are found (p. 236). While H. erectus characteristics vary across continents, the
majority share the same range in body size, brains, and cranial shape. H. erectus adults had robust
bodies weighing more than 100 lbs. and measuring 5 6 tall. The range in H. erectus brain size is
700 to 1250 cm(^3). The most distinct characteristic of H. erectus is its cranial shape. The cranium
displays a thick cranial bone, large brow ridges, a pointy nuchal torus at the posterior, low forehead
development, a wide cranium base, and finally a sagittal keel (Lewis et al., 2013). According to The
First Humans, environments during the Early Pleistocene fluctuated, but they tended to be more
open and wet than the Pliocene environments before them. Thus, it was warmer. These open
grassland environments yielded bulky, herding mammals. The First Humans also suggests the
anatomy and physiology of H. erectus allowed for the endurance they needed in order to obtain

Analysis Of Quixote s Soldiers By Cesar Chavez Essay
Depicted on the cover of Quixote s Soldiers is a group of Mexican American men and women in
protest formation. They carry with them signs that say Justice for La Raza, Ando sangrando igual
que tu, and Cops out of our communities! David Montejano argues that Mexican American reform
groups are often left out of the Civil Rights Movement taught in a classroom. San Antonio was the
birthplace of the Chicano movement. Here, various organizations were formed to encourage the
government to increase Mexican Americans opportunities in the educational field as well as in the
work field. The Brown Power movement campaigned for Mexican Americans to reject assimilation
into the American mainstream society, and celebrate their Chicano history. La Causa, or The Cause
of this movement, began as farm worker strikes in California and Southwest region. (Montejano,
10) Farmworkers demanded fair wages and suitable working conditions, but they also faced
inequality outside of the workplace. Inspired by Cesar Chavez, young Chicanos in San Antonio
began to form organizations that would challenge the injustice and inequality treatment they faced
as citizens of the United States. The Civil Rights Movement of African Americans also impacted
and influenced the young generation of the Chicano Movement. They shared one common enemy:
the white elite. Their basic rights as a citizen were being withheld and they organized to fight to
retrieve them. The West and South regions of San Antonio

How to Handle Violence in Youth Sports
Everyone agrees that parent involvement is a good thing. But when the parent behaves
inappropriately, it creates a poor environment for the children to learn and enjoy themselves.
Sideline rage with parents behaving badly at youth sports events is such an epidemic, that 76% of
respondents from 60 high school athletic associations said increased spectator interference is
causing many officials to quit (Associated Press, 6/3/01). Parents are supposed to be role models,
and the lessons they teach will determine their values and actions in the future. These days violence
in children s sports is not limited to the playing field; overbearing parents are creating dangerous
situations on the field.

At age ten, many kids have private coaching and attend specialized clinics in the off season. The
coach is usually someone with a background in sports, either a retired professional player or coach.
Practices are now scheduled for twice a week and attending a weekly clinic is strongly
recommended, with a strength conditioning workout schedule between practices. All of these
changes mean more involvement time for the parents. Parents are now spending up ten hours a
week watching their children compete with other children, and this pressure can sometimes be too
much for the parent.
In 2002, Thomas Junta was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after he attacked Michael
Costin, who later died of his injuries. Mr. Costin was refereeing a pickup game of hockey. The
fight was witnessed by a dozen children including the children of both Mr. Junta and Mr. Costin
(Butterfield, 2002). While this is by far one of the worst incidents in sports rage, there are other
types of behavior that can still harm our youth. Physical violence is often a rare occurrence; verbal
abuse and intimidation have been seen frequently. When a parents scream at their child after
practice that he/she did not run fast enough or hit hard enough, can be considered a form of verbal
abuse. Also consider when a parent of one child screams at the team for not performing well and
not winning the game, this combined with swearing can reduce a child to tears. Daniel Wann, PhD

There was confrontation between religion and culture on the African continent. There is an internal

Why Lying Is A Common Behavior
Reasons for lying Lying is a common behavior in today s society. But ever since we were young
we were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that we should be truthful. Why is it that
lying was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we
are cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exists a white liewhich states that you are
telling a lie to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the
time? In the quote Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs
around in dark places because looking at the word lying it can give off a vibe of a dark and
lonely place. Just like rats who runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind
the shadows and living alone in their lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote,
where I agreed with the quote that liars are basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they
don t care if it s unpleasant to others and see lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I
disagree is they can t be called cowards because they might be telling a white lie and instead of
being unpleasant, it can actually help the person that is receiving the lie.
Getting told a lie is a very unpleasant feeling for some while for others. They have a stronger
mentality and can withstand being told a lie. Personally in my opinion, being told a lie makes one
feel as if they can t trust the person anymore due to the fact that they

In my opinion, Merce Cunningham is the most influential person in the history of contemporary
dance. Cunningham was both a dancer and in the early 1940s began to choreograph. A former
dancer of the Martha Graham Dance Company, Cunningham went on to found the Merce
Cunningham Dance Company, where many of the dancers went on to become prestigious
choreographers as well. In his works, the choreography, music and design all work separately yet
together. Through his belief that anything can follow anything (Au 155), use of space and music,
exploration of chance, is what makes Merce Cunningham the most influential person in the history
of dance.
As written in Ballet and Modern Dance, The choreographer played the role of the painter,
selecting what the viewer saw and directing his focus to different performers or areas of the stage
(155). This statement describes Merce Cunningham s approach to choreography and space
perfectly. In Cunningham s works, there is no front and center spot. The front and center spot
takes place all over the stage and the performance can be viewed from any angle. Also,
Independence was central in Cunningham s works. For example, the video shown in class of the
dancers in the warehouse, shows the dancers at every angle and even when the camera focuses on

One of the chance methods he used, was to ...toss coins or roll dice to determine crucial aspects of

Merce, would not hear the music they would be dancing to until it came time to perform. He
absorbed the aspects of everyday, or pedestrian, movements into his works. Cunningham rewrote the
traditional relationship between dance and music: dancers did not dance to the music. Essentially,
the dancers were dancing for

Beowulf and Grendel Essay
Beowulf and Grendel
Beowulf and Grendel are actually the same stories in the fact that they are based on the same epic
Beowulf. Beowulf , that is told of here is translated by Kevin Crossley Holland, and there are many
different translations which makes Beowulf the epic so interchangeable. Although Beowulf and
Grendel seem very similar they do have many differences as well. Reading the two stories back
to back gives you the impression of how many differences there are. For example, Beowulf is
written from an outsider s point of view. Grendel is written from Grendel s point of view. This
changes the whole perception of the book. Seeing a story written from two different points of
views not only helps you to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stories actually differ in ways that make your feelings change about the plot. These two
stories were written during the Anglo Saxon period. Anglo Saxon was also the time of Medieval
England. Each story gives a good representation of this time. It is necessary to learn about this
period in order to get the full impact of these stories. To understand that Medieval England was
very different compared to the current time is very important before reading the two stories. In
the Anglo Saxon time they had no rights for animals, they would simply slaughter them for all
the food they could eat. In today s time there are animal rights. For example, there are animal
rights activists. They believe that animals should not be killed for food or sport. Today s
societal views would have been laughed at from the point of view of the medieval world. Today
we have the luxury of being able to drive down the street, run into the grocery store, and purchase
whatever food we need. The Anglo Saxon s did not have cars nor were there grocery stores. As
for the Anglo Saxon s, they had to get their own food whatever way possible. That meant they
had to go out and kill animals for their meat, have their own gardens in order to have. The
medieval period was one of wars, fighting, and killing. In that time people were killing other people
without the consequences of jail time like there is today. They would have a little trial type
situation where the

BP 6 2. Current Issues 2.1 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill It is significant to note that BP made a total
loss of $3,324 million after deducting the cost incurred in that year from the total sales and
operating revenues. The loss is largely attributed to the infamous Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill on
the 20 April 2010. The incident was triggered by a well blowout in the Gulf of Mexico, which
ultimately led to an extensive oil spill. BP, however, responded quickly by funding the oil spill
cleanup and setting up the Gulf Coast Restoration Organization (GCRO) that specializes in
carrying oil spill cleanup operations, investigations and public reporting (BP p.l.c. 2012c). In the
aftermath, BP has suffered considerably in financial performance. Figure 2.1 shows BP s share

The Extent to which Strategic Environmental Assessment...
1. Introduction
Climate change the wicked problem is continuously imposing significant threat to the nature as
whole according to the recent projections (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013). This anticipated
hazard is unavoidable to some extent though the source of the problem ( green house gas
emission) is barred right now (IPCC 2014a). Combination of mitigation (reducing or capturing
GHG) and adaptation effort has been suggested both in the short and long term to achieve the
complementary advantage (i.e. cost) and to reduce the risk (IPCC 2014a; 2014b).
Transportation, residential and business energy use and industrial sector is the major contributor of
global GHG emission (EPA 2013). These three sectors are influenced actively by... Show more

Carbon dioxide concentration has increased by 40% since the pre industrial times, largely from
fossil fuel emissions and land use change emissions. Human intervention on the climate structure is
unambiguous. Further emissions of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and changes in
all components of the climate system. Most characteristics of climate change will continue for many
centuries even if emissions are stopped totally at this point (IPCC 2013; Bondeau et al. 2013).
2.2 Mitigation Need
Mitigation is a human intervention to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases
(IPCC 2014a). According to Fifth Assessment Report of IPCC (IPCC 2014a), technical and
behavioural mitigation instrument for all transport modes, in addition new infrastructure and urban
redevelopment investments could decrease final energy demand in 2050 by around 40% below the
baseline. Integrated urban planning, transit oriented development, compact urban form that
supports cycling and walking, and new infrastructures such as high speed rail systems that will
reduce short haul air travel demand, can play a vital role for emission reduction (IPCC 2014a);
which can be guided at the very beginning of the policy and plan making through instruments like
SEA. Moreover, the next two decades present a window of opportunity for mitigation in urban
areas, as a significant segment of the world s transition/semi urban areas will be urbanized during
this period in

God Bless The Broken Road Essay
From what I remember, the ratings were great on it, at least according to what I heard from Randy.
Again, it was a little different movie for Hallmark, and it was nice to see you cast in a little bit
different role.
I thought it was entertaining. And I didn t know how it was going to come across necessarily with
me as the figure skating coach, but I have done a lot of coaching. I was ski instructor for many
years. Whether I knew anything about the sport or not, a coach is a coach, and I tapped into that
side of things. I channeled my dad a bit. He s always been a coach of mine. I had a lot of fun
with the girls too. Even though Julie {Berman} wasn t the greatest skater, she gave it her all. Since

Oh yeah, really catty. I think it was Gail O Grady s character that had to learn that lesson from her
daughter. That was a great lesson in the movie.
From God Bless the Broken Road
Moving on from your Hallmark work, you also have a film coming up called God Bless the Broken
Road. Will this be a feature film in the theaters?
Yes, from what I understand, we have a pretty good theatrical release scheduled in about 1800
theaters across the U.S. It was supposed to be in theaters at the end of March, but for whatever
reason, it s being pushed back a bit.
Okay, this movie sounds like something I would like to see, and I am sure it would be very
appealing to the Hallmark audience as well.
Oh, yes, the movie came out so nicely. It was beautifully shot. It honors the military, and I play a
NASCAR driver. Rather similar to The Perfect Catch. A sort of cocky racecar driver loses his edge
in racing and goes back to his small town and finds love with a military widow..
Have they decided when they are going to release it yet?
No, a lot of the time, I m in the dark on these kinds of things. The last time I met with the
producer was about two months ago. At that time, he said it would be February/early March. But I

Chemical Warfare Persuasive Reasearch Essay
The purpose of this essay is to deal with the fact that chemical warfare should be brought back to
modern warfare strategies. As Warren Rudman said, And they will tell you unequivocally that if
we have a chemical or biological attack or a nuclear attack anywhere in this country, they are
unprepared to deal with it today, and that is of high urgency. Rudman s words are true in what they
say and that we should do everything to counter act his statement. Biological weapons are a key to
outstanding success in war and therefore, I strongly suggest that chemical warfareis an effective and
producible weapon tactic that can be used on today s battlefield. Though biological weapons have
been available for under a century, there is a long... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a risk. (Spartacus)
The fact that we cannot use chemical weapons is a very bad thing. We could have used these
weapons in the Vietnam War. With all the tall grass and dense forests, our soldiers were not
prepared for the close up combat. If we had used the chemical agents in that forest, we could have
eliminated hidden enemy forces and we would have saved many American soldiers lives.
With the growing problem of the war in the Middle East, we could use chemical weapons in
order to siphon out enemy forces hidden in houses. Enemies will hide in houses and then
emerge when we are near by surprise and they kill many soldiers by doing so. Our families are
greatly affected by the loss of a son, father, or brother. With soldiers dying every day, the problem
could be fixed by using chemical weapons because they flow into hard to attack areas. It is the
only way to eliminate an enemy without radioactive nuclear force. Chemical weapons would lessen
the deaths of our soldiers.
There are many repercussions to not having a biological weapon. If we cannot reinstate chemical
warfare, we will continue to lose many soldiers lives. Having chemical weapons is like when we
came out with the UCAV. The UCAV stands for unmanned combat aerial vehicle. The UCAV got
rid of the loss of lives in the air. It made bombing targets easier. With chemical weapons, we could
eliminate thousands of war related deaths. If

Jones Blair Company Case Study
JBC s market area and segmentation
The market of Jones Blair can be divided to two groups: Dallas Fort Worth area and Non Dallas
Fort Worth
JBC s potential segment(s) and strategy
In order to reach these business goals at a time when growth is nonexistent, Jones Blair must take
immediate action and increase their sales team and refocus their sales energies.
Jones Blair is a regional paint manufacturer that has to compete in a mature market (sales growth
are expected to be the general rate of inflation) and also very concentrated, since the seven major
producers account for upwards of 60 percent of sales.
Therefore, in this market context, Jones Blair will need to increase its sales in volume, but keep its

However, as the sales reps have focused on current customers over the last five years the sales
team has added only five new professional accounts. As well, in the areas outside DFW, 70% of
sales are derived from do it yourself painters. As well, the company could consider increasing
their present sales reps, eight, by an additional representative. At present, 70% of sales within
DFW are derived from professional painters. However, the benefit of cutting the prices would not
increase company sales to a point where they could maintain current contribution margin numbers.
Given that the mass merchandisers are presently not pursuing this market source, the Jones Blair
Company would do well to draw upon their superior salesmen and initiate sales from this
resource. Thus resulting only in approximately a 3% increase in customer purchases, from 15%
to 18%. A posed increase of approximately 3% in the DFW area would increase the company tms
brand awareness by 5%, from approximately 25% to 30%. The company tms sales representatives
have a superior reputation with their dealers. In such an instance, increases in sales come with
increases in variable costs related to the product.
Alternative Courses of Action
The market for do it yourself consumers is forecasted to reach US$ 5.74 billion by the year 2003
(see appendix 2) and it seems to be the best segment for Jones Blair to focus its resources on, since

A Research Study On Patenting Genes Of Organism
Patenting Genes of Organism
The advancement of technology has lead to many scientists conducting more experiments with
gene modification. This has lead to scientists to isolate certain genes that may cause a certain
disease, thus modified genes may change the organism in a particular way. It may help farmers
with crop cultivation and reduce crop infestation. It may also help farmers to be able to cultivated
crops or keep animals that are prawn to drought resistance. Before, I go in details explain the
importance of why businesses that develop modified organisms should be able to preserve their
property rights by patenting such organisms or why such organism should not be patentable. I
would like to briefly explain the history of patenting. For over two hundred years living organisms
have been excluded from patent laws; life forms were considered a product of nature and not a
human invention. The non patentable status of living organisms changed with the 1980 landmark
Supreme Court case Diamond v. Chakrabarty, (W3 Unisa, 2005). The court decided in a narrow 5
4 decision that a strain of bacteria that had been modified by the insertion of new genes was
patentable because it was not naturally occurring. The foreign genes gave the bacteria the ability to
break down hydrocarbons, and its inventors hoped it might be useful for cleaning up oil spills.
Historically, patents were initially developed to insure and protect inventors and to make sure that
they could benefit

Both heroes were rewarded for there obedience. Although the stories are similar they are not
identical. In Genesis God sent the Flood to destroy humankind because of man s wickedness.
Unlike The Gilgamesha where the reason was never said however the sender of the flood was a
secret council of gods the idea was brought up by Enlil , the god of earth wind and air. God
favored Noah because he was a righteous man therefore, he was chosen to build the ark that was
three hundred cubits long, fifty cubit wide, and thirty cubits high, about three stories.
Utnapishtim was chosen out of the cleverness of Ea, the god of wisdom and crafts. God came
directly to Noah to tell him about the Flood where as Ea was swore to secrecy so he repeated
their plans to the reed fence so he would no break the oath to the group. The boat Utnapishtim

the floor came in Gilgamesh it was only rainwater however the Flood in Genesis was rain water

Reflection On Atonement
The English word Atonement is derived from the two words at onement and denotes a state of
togetherness and agreement between two people. Atonement presupposes two parties that are
estranged, with the act of atonement being the reconciliation of them in a state of harmony. The
theological meaning is the reconciliation between God and His fallen creation, especially between
God and sinful human beings. The centrality of the atonement to Christianityhas influenced our
language, giving us the word crucial which means literally pertaining to a cross. When we say
that anything is crucial we are saying that it is as central to that to which we apply it as the cross
is to Christianity. What Christ did on the cross is the heart of the Christian Faith . Professor Kwesi
Dickson, making a careful exegesis of Paul s teaching on the meaning of the cross and looking
briefly at what he regards as inadequacies in modern views of this event identifies the contribution
of African culture towards our understanding of the atonement. In contrast to the European, The
African regards death in a positive way, as the fulfilment of the earthly life and as the gateway to
ancestorhood. African thought can thus throw light on the meaning of the death of JesusChrist. The
Atonement may be seen as strengthening the community, through Christ the ever living and perfect
ancestor. Just as Paul s understanding of the cross was expressed in the language of his Jewish
background, so now the gospel

Hey Big Spender By Elena Passarello Summary
A monster is someone or something who invokes fear or causes change. Imagine someone
permanently changing a young man s life to the point his whole body and life is changed in one
fell swoop. Anyone who commits an act like this is a monster. In Hey Big Spender by Elena
Passarello, a boy named Farinelli is castrated before the young age of ten years old. Farinelli was
not castrated for using his private parts in an improper manner. Farinelli was castrated so he
could sing a note. Farinelli did not ask for this process to be done, neither was he asked if he
wanted it done to him, this decision was made by his music teachers. That decision is
unreasonable to make for a ten year old boy, just so he can fulfill the wishes of his teachers (of
hitting one note!). Farinelli s body was impacted by this in multiple... Show more content on

The behavior of the elders in this situation was only allowed because they were powerful. This is
a reflection of how people with power change other people s lives to fit their own agenda. While
many of the changes for Farinelli were positive, the fact of the matter is, the church elders, like
powerful people everywhere, are monsters for taking advantage of a powerless human being.
Farinelli was born in Italy back in 1705. He was a member of a church sponsored music school
from when he was young. The leaders of this school were having trouble with the progression of
music. The choirboys just couldn t hit the higher notes, as Passarello states, Mastering these
complex new lines required years of training and a thoracic power that exceeded even the strongest

  • 2. Ralph Waldo Emerson Beliefs During the Transcendentalist movement, Ralph Waldo Emerson s famous quote in his booklet, Nature, gave a lot of insight on the identity of the human race. His quote, A man is a god in ruins indicates a sense of the fallen nature, and really emphasizes our faults and our limits, and many authors during this time person also seemed to follow this philosophy. In Ralph Waldo Emersons other work, Self Reliance, he is also able to capture this same essence from text to text. In addition to Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorneand Herman Melville all follow the same philosophy in their own respective texts. The reader is able to see a common theme consistently throughout Self Reliance, Economy (in Walden), The Artist of the Beautiful and Bartleby the Scrivener and Benito Cereno. Throughout each of these texts, the reader essentially focuses on how the nature of the human race focuses on how we are more than ordinary stone ruins, but we are lesser than Gods. The optimism of Emerson s quote exploring the nature of the human person is depicted in their own way and different writing style throughout all of these different texts. In Ralph Waldo Emerson s booklet, Nature, his quote A man is a god in ruins, is famously known coming from the Transcendentalist movement. Emerson stays on the same theme about the human race in his text, Self Reliance. Emerson is extremely insistent on the human race to be themselves and their own individual. He reflects how easy it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis of The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan Essay Analysis of The Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan John Bunyan s The Pilgrim s Progress is an allegorical story about the Christian religion. It allegorizes the journey of a Christian into the Celestial City, which represents heaven. Although Pilgrim s Progress may seem simple and straightforward, there are many deeper meanings throughout the whole story. Bunyan uses the names of his characters to signify whom the character represents in the story, for example, the character Hopeful represents hopefulness, Help represents people who are willing to help others in need of assistance, Faithful represents people who are faithful to whatever they are associated with, and the main character, Christian, represents all young ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Christian cries out for Faithful to stop and wait so they can be companions along their travel, but Faithful replies, No, I am upon my life, and the avenger of blood is behind me (60). In the story, the life he is trying to save is his real, tangible life. But his running away from the avenger of blood to save his life actually symbolizes saving Faithful s spiritual life. Because he has sinned and broken the Ten Commandment, You shall not kill, he is now being chased by death and if caught, he will kill Faithful; this death characterizes the death of eternal life and therefore not being able to enter heaven (Deuteronomy 5:17). In the bible there is a passage that talks about the avenger of blood and who is he. This is the provision for the manslayer, who by fleeing there may save his life. If anyone kills his neighbor unintentionally without having been at enmity with him in time past #8230;he may flee to one of these cities and save his life; lest the avenger of blood in hot anger pursue the manslayer and overtake him (Deuteronomy 19:4 6). Jesus Christ was born without sin, and never sinned throughout his lifetime. Faithful, however, who although did not try to kill his neighbor, killed him unintentionally and therefore, sinned. Jesus would never have caused pain to any living creatures, neither accidentally nor deliberately. This is one example of how Faithful differs from Christ. Faith is a large part in a ... • 4. Ellis Island First Person Creative Essay This is a creative essay on Ellis Island, describing life as an immigrant who went to Ellis Island through first person. All facts and dates are historically correct. I come from Spain. My name is Carmina Diaz. I immigrated because of the Cristero War, in Spain. The war was actually a rebellion of the Roman Catholics in Spain who were persecuted by the government. There were dangers such as raids and the death toll was growing higher every day. Being a Catholic Christian family who simply wanted to live in peace, we moved out to escape the war and the persecution that had caused it. Living so close to others breeds annoyance and irritation, especially towards those others, but I did make a few friends. There was this bouncy girl, also from Spain, called Carlotta. She spoke Portuguese as well as Spanish and introduced me to her good friend Sancho from Portugal. We all became friends and discussed our homelands and topics like school and cultural differences. We were amazed at how different our lives were. Yet we were friends on board. Reaching Ellis Island When the ship finally arrived at America. I was feeling excited yet apprehensive. I felt excited to see this new world that had been all the talk on the ship. However, worry was practically eating my insides; where would we go? What would we do? Would wild animals attack us? How would we earn our living? Would there be savages waiting for us? Where were we landing? Would we be sent back? What would the people be like? Would I still be able to go to school? Would we have to live off the land? (If so, I could take Carlotta and Sancho with me)! I could not bear the thought of another few weeks cooped up in that ship. Of course, I was nervous, and there were butterflies in my stomach, too! In my imagination, America had been a wild and dangerous jungle. I was disappointed when I saw the reality. During the 1600 s Amsterdam s population was growing rapidly. It quickly became necessary to increase in size in order to accommodate the abundance of new occupants. The community now know as the Jordaans was built in 1612 in the western part of Grachtengordel, it was decided that this area would be for the working class. All of the streets and building were developed around old trails and ditches which is why it looks different from the rest of Amsterdam. The first residence of the Jordanns were fortunate that at the time there was much need for sailors, carpenters and other workers. Soon small rooms and attics were being rented out to whole families, due to lack of housing. Home owners began adding on extra rooms, building up making the streets appear narrower. Back houses were also constructed and were reachable through small ally ways that were no more than one meter wide. Most tenets of the Jordaans wanted to escape the crowded streets and poverty that surrounded them but there were no escapes. Some of the weathey donated money to build the Westerkerk Church, the famous artist Rembrandt is in fact buried in a pauper s grave. • 6. Musical Analysis Gcse The thing that makes musicals so different amongst other films is that it builds a story from works of original music. I admire the ability to write a piece of music, but I admire it even more when another composer comes in with the same piece of music and the sound comes out completely different. In a way they enhance the sound and perfect upon it. Moulin Rouge is an excellent example of this. The writers and composers combine elements of theater, opera, traditional cinema, and numerous elements of pop culture to create an almost completely new genre of film. It isn t about the weary and corrupt, but rather romantics, with bohemian ideals, who believe in a more glamorous life who see the nightclub not as a shabby tourist trap but as a... Satine sings a reprise of Your Song in the subsequent scene to the actual Duke she mistook Christian for moments earlier. Her soprano voice, light and feminine, performs with simple elegance. Heard in this scene is a combination of Marius Devries composition of Meet Me in the Red Room and a stanza from Children of the Revolution (IMDb, 2017). A more satirical and comical can can approach takes hold of the movie for a while, highlighted by the frenzied and enjoyably devious medley called The Pitch (Wikipedia, 2017). Cleaver to touch on the Shakespearean style of putting a play inside of another play, because it seems to be a use of foreshadowing, in that most characters die tragically in his plays, just as Satine will die in this one. A very fast paced Spectacular Spectacular/ The Pitch uses a combination of The Can Can, The Sound of Music, and Your Song, and appears to be the only song not adapted to the film, because it features original lyrics, and incorporates the vocals of all major characters in this very wildly hilarious performance (Discogs, 2017). This scene is scored with an extremely warm piano performance by Armstrong. As Zidler is throwing the bait to the Duke for The Pitch or Spectacular Spectacular, swirling from one side of him to the other, dashing front to behind the Duke, all this to emphasize the Duke s confusion about what s going on and to sprinkle on more humor (Luhrmann, ... • 7. The Dual Meaning Of The Closet Henry Urbach uncovers the dual meaning of the closet as an architectural container and metaphoric location to mask sexual identity. As an architectural container, the closet is a place where things are stored. Putting away things that are not needed or wanted for display. The closet allows a room to look cleaner and less clutter. Centuries ago closets were mainly wardrobes, how do closets from today s society compare to closet wardrobes that were used years ago? This phrase is used because being... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term coming out of the closet is from the 20th century. It is hard for the person to come out with who they really are. Although the decision to come out is a personal one, disclosure has been facilitated by a variety of institutions and social movements: The re appropriation of stigmatizing labels, (finding words that are less pejorative to describe a stigmatized group) advocacy and support groups (a second social phenomenon that facilitates disclosure is the advocacy and support groups made up of people who are out) and outing (a third phenomenon related to disclosure is outing). (Corrigan, P .2003) According to Rosario, Schrimshaw, Hunter, Braun (2006), the development of a lesbian, gay, or bisexual (LGB) sexual identity is a complex and often difficult process. Unlike members of other minority groups (e.g., ethnic and racial minorities), most LGB individuals are not raised in a community of similar others from whom they learn about their identity and who reinforce and support that identity. Since life is a mess, I carry pride in the way that I get excited over the little things and always attempt to have a positive attitude. If you re doing what makes you happy, do that and nothing else. The reason this aphorism is really important is because copious amounts of people don t live their life the way they want to. The use of his descriptive sentence structure throughout the piece transported the reader to that very lake in Maine he wrote of. Furthermore I felt as if I was there watching it happen in front of me. He thoroughly described each setting in such great detail that I recalled memories of my own with my father. We would go camping and fishing on a lake in South Carolina much similar to the one E.B. White described. If you look back on famous composers, you will find that there are mostly male composers. Out of the shadows of the males, came in very known composer. Her name was Clara Schumann. Australia s International Obligations Analysis Australia s international obligations are framed by the United Nations, as this organisation is paramount to enforcing international law and fundamental human rights. The United Nations (UN) was founded in 1945, shortly after World War II, by a group of representatives from fifty nations. Their motive was to establish a stable forum in which international issues could be discussed and prevent wars between powerful nations. The power and purpose of the UN is bound by its founding charter, similar to a constitution, containing one hundred and eleven articles which authorize the rights and obligations of members (United Nations, 2017). For instance, Nauru is not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, nor do they have the domestic legal structure to implement such obligations, due to the impoverished state of the country (Dr Hathaway, 2016). PNG faces similar challenges in regards to the socio economic state of the country and struggles to implement such obligations, despite being a signatory to the Refugee Convention. Neither of these designated offshore processing states have the legal capacity to uphold international obligations, thus creating great potential for violations of these obligations (Archbold, 2015). This impacts the Australian government as it is difficult to regulate activity in the regional processing centres and if obligations were to be breached, the government would be responsible regardless of who contravened. • 13. Summary Of The BookThe Guest By Albert Camus During the mid twentieth century, Algeria was trying to gain independence from France. It was writers like Albert Camus who gave the world of taste of what was happening in their country at that time through literature. He used knowledge and experiences to create stories and plays that captured Alergia and the period of war they were in. Camus dominated the mid twentieth century intellectually and artistically. Albert Camusgrew up with a strict belief in human freedom, which is evident through his short story The Guest. Growing up Albert Camus did not have an ordinary life. His family was not as fortunate as other families. He grew up poor and was raised solely by his mother due to his father dying during World War I. He was born in French Algeria. His mother was of Spanish descent and his father was from France (Heims). Camus never let this be a disadvantage to his career or interfere with it. He said Poverty was never a misfortune for me: it was radiant with light. Even my revolts were brilliant with sunshine. They were almost always....revolts for everyone, so that life might be lifted into that light (Heims). He used this through his career and it shows through his works. During his life, Algeria was at war. Camus was torn apart personally and intellectually by this war. He was from Spanish and French descent, however he grew up in Algeria (Taylor). At this time it was still a French colony and Algeria was part of France for over a hundred years. Muslims and Berbers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With food being linked to culture, international students must face one of the hardest tasks when coming to America, eating someone else s culture while neglecting their own. In this research project, I will investigate how international students cope with eating American cuisine or what measures they take to avoid it. Introduction: Nothing represents a culture better than food. Food is the fastest way for people to bond and experience one another s culture. Thousands of students travel from international colleges and universities. These people spend most of their life eating different foods, foods that they are accustomed to and are naturally born to like. Before starting college, I never gave any thought of how international students feel about consuming food of another culture for entire year or in some cases, for multiple years. This is what gave me the idea to study the culture of international students, including their practices and daily routines. According to The Kansas State Collegian [daily newspaper at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas], international students attending the University share a fear of gaining weight from eating American food. American food is portrayed to them as greasy and not very diverse . That Thursday night, in what felt like an empty cold room, I lay there crying, wishing for everything to be over. It all started the day I turned 15, I was just a young man, who for some reason decided that it was time to get a real job. I woke up that hot summer day and decided that it was time I go out and apply for some jobs. As I walked in I was greeted by the store manager a middle aged woman with wildly frizzy hair, her face resembling someone who just ran a 5K. Unfortunately, the ability to achieve truly variable valve timing has eluded automotive manufacturers. Most variable timing mechanisms were created as tools for the automotive engineer. Their use was limited to the laboratory as a means of testing multiple, virtual cam profiles. These early camless engines allowed for the designers to choose the best cams for the engine under scrutiny, but were less than energy efficient. Furthermore, they were laboratory machines and were not capable of being mass produced or utilized in an automobile. There have been a few attempts at developing production models of camless engines, most notably by Ford, but the use of solenoids has impeded their implementation. Using solenoids to control hydraulic fluid and ultimately the opening and closing of the engine valves introduces its own limitations. The solenoids consume considerable energy and are a binary control device they are either on or off. Therefore the hydraulic fluid, controlled LIMITATIONS OF THE CAM: NEED FOR VARIABLE VALVE TIMING Automobile manufacturers have recognized the compromises associated with by the solenoids, is either flowing or blocked. The ethical issues of physician assisted suicide are both emotional and controversial, as it ranks right up there with abortion. Some argue physician assisted suicide is ethically permissible for a dying person who has choosing to escape the unbearable suffering at the end of life. Furthermore, it is the physician s duty to alleviate the patients suffering, which at times justifies providing aid in dying. These arguments rely a great deal on the respect for individual autonomy, which recognizes the rights of competent people to choose the timing and manner of their death, when faced with terminal illness. Others have argued that physician assisted suicide is not ethically permissible, because it contradicts the traditional duty of physician s to preserve life and to do no harm. Dicot seed contains of two parts which have been named cotyledons. Their job is to supply the food for the growing of the young plant. An excellent example of a dicot seed is the bean seed. Dicot seeds consist of an outside cover, called seed coat, and also an embryo inside the bean. The Greek word for two is dis , and that is where we get di from. Seed which consists of only a single cotyledon are known as monocots. A corn seed is a very good example of a monocot. The seed of a monocot stays in one piece and does not split up. As the bean seed, the corn seed also has a seed coat, but this coat doesn t get off as easily. There is as well a part of the seed called the endosperm and this is the part where the monocot plants store their food. The Greek word for one is monos , and that s where we get mono from. Of course seeds consist of several components, but the three main and most significant parts are the seed coat, the endosperm and the embryo. The outer membrane of the seed is known as the seed coat and that is the part of the seed that is visible. The coat of the seed is often hard and very difficult to break. The outer membrane s function is to protect the sensitive parts that are inside the seed from diseases and common damages. Even though all seeds have a seed coat, there is ... According to Understanding Humans: Introduction to Physical Anthropology and Archaeology, the Pleistocene, or the Ice Age, was a period 1.8 mya 10,000 ya marked by drastic fluctuations of climate change across Earth. The Pleistocene alternated between extreme periods of glaciations and interglacials. During glaciations, temperatures dropped drastically. In northern continents this drop in temperature led to mass accumulations of ice, measuring nearly a mile thick; however, these glaciers were not seen everywhere. In Africa, glaciations led to more arid and dry climates. Interglacials, on the other hand, were periods of warmer climate. During interglacials, climate would become ... According to Lewis (2013) while it is probable that they first developed developed in Africa, it also . . . seems likely that H. erectus first arose in East Africa and then very quickly migrated to other continents ; however, it is hard to prove this hypothesis as new fossils are found (p. 236). While H. erectus characteristics vary across continents, the majority share the same range in body size, brains, and cranial shape. H. erectus adults had robust bodies weighing more than 100 lbs. and measuring 5 6 tall. The range in H. erectus brain size is 700 to 1250 cm(^3). The most distinct characteristic of H. erectus is its cranial shape. The cranium displays a thick cranial bone, large brow ridges, a pointy nuchal torus at the posterior, low forehead development, a wide cranium base, and finally a sagittal keel (Lewis et al., 2013). According to The First Humans, environments during the Early Pleistocene fluctuated, but they tended to be more open and wet than the Pliocene environments before them. Thus, it was warmer. These open grassland environments yielded bulky, herding mammals. They carry with them signs that say Justice for La Raza, Ando sangrando igual que tu, and Cops out of our communities! David Montejano argues that Mexican American reform groups are often left out of the Civil Rights Movement taught in a classroom. San Antonio was the birthplace of the Chicano movement. Here, various organizations were formed to encourage the government to increase Mexican Americans opportunities in the educational field as well as in the work field. The Brown Power movement campaigned for Mexican Americans to reject assimilation into the American mainstream society, and celebrate their Chicano history. La Causa, or The Cause of this movement, began as farm worker strikes in California and Southwest region. (Montejano, 10) Farmworkers demanded fair wages and suitable working conditions, but they also faced inequality outside of the workplace. Inspired by Cesar Chavez, young Chicanos in San Antonio began to form organizations that would challenge the injustice and inequality treatment they faced as citizens of the United States. The Civil Rights Movement of African Americans also impacted and influenced the young generation of the Chicano Movement. They shared one common enemy: the white elite. Their basic rights as a citizen were being withheld and they organized to fight to retrieve them. The West and South regions of San Antonio ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But when the parent behaves inappropriately, it creates a poor environment for the children to learn and enjoy themselves. Sideline rage with parents behaving badly at youth sports events is such an epidemic, that 76% of respondents from 60 high school athletic associations said increased spectator interference is causing many officials to quit (Associated Press, 6/3/01). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At age ten, many kids have private coaching and attend specialized clinics in the off season. The coach is usually someone with a background in sports, either a retired professional player or coach. Practices are now scheduled for twice a week and attending a weekly clinic is strongly recommended, with a strength conditioning workout schedule between practices. All of these changes mean more involvement time for the parents. Parents are now spending up ten hours a week watching their children compete with other children, and this pressure can sometimes be too much for the parent. In 2002, Thomas Junta was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after he attacked Michael Costin, who later died of his injuries. Mr. Costin was refereeing a pickup game of hockey. The fight was witnessed by a dozen children including the children of both Mr. Junta and Mr. Costin (Butterfield, 2002). While this is by far one of the worst incidents in sports rage, there are other types of behavior that can still harm our youth. Physical violence is often a rare occurrence; verbal abuse and intimidation have been seen frequently. When a parents scream at their child after practice that he/she did not run fast enough or hit hard enough, can be considered a form of verbal abuse. Also consider when a parent of one child screams at the team for not performing well and not winning the game, this combined with swearing can reduce a child to tears. But ever since we were young we were shunned away from telling lies and were taught that we should be truthful. Why is it that lying was immoral, but then as we grow up we drift away from that lesson? Many can say that we are cowards who hide behind our lies. Today there exists a white liewhich states that you are telling a lie to help someone. Why do we teach our kids that lying is bad when adults lie all the time? In the quote Nancy Farmer compares the liars to rats who are cowards that hides and runs around in dark places because looking at the word lying it can give off a vibe of a dark and lonely place. Just like rats who runs and hides in dark places, liars are basically hiding behind the shadows and living alone in their lie. From the quote I agree and disagree with the quote, where I agreed with the quote that liars are basically rats who hides and run from the truth, they don t care if it s unpleasant to others and see lying as an escape route from trouble. Where I disagree is they can t be called cowards because they might be telling a white lie and instead of being unpleasant, it can actually help the person that is receiving the lie. • 53. Reflection On Atonement The English word Atonement is derived from the two words at onement and denotes a state of togetherness and agreement between two people. Atonement presupposes two parties that are estranged, with the act of atonement being the reconciliation of them in a state of harmony. The theological meaning is the reconciliation between God and His fallen creation, especially between God and sinful human beings. The centrality of the atonement to Christianityhas influenced our language, giving us the word crucial which means literally pertaining to a cross. When we say that anything is crucial we are saying that it is as central to that to which we apply it as the cross is to Christianity. What Christ did on the cross is the heart of the Christian Faith . Professor Kwesi Dickson, making a careful exegesis of Paul s teaching on the meaning of the cross and looking briefly at what he regards as inadequacies in modern views of this event identifies the contribution of African culture towards our understanding of the atonement. In contrast to the European, The African regards death in a positive way, as the fulfilment of the earthly life and as the gateway to ancestorhood. African thought can thus throw light on the meaning of the death of JesusChrist. The Atonement may be seen as strengthening the community, through Christ the ever living and perfect ancestor. Just as Paul s understanding of the cross was expressed in the language of his Jewish background, so now the gospel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, once another Chinese Shirley Temple appears on their TV playing the piano with a Peter Pan haircut just like Jing Mei s, her mother criticizes the girl on TV and Jing Mei comes to her defense by saying she s trying hard. Her mother counters with comparing the girl to her daughter, Not the best. Because you not trying (Tan 474). All her mother wants is for her to try and do her best, but Jing Mei just wants her mother to like her the way she is. Farinelli was castrated so he could sing a note. Farinelli did not ask for this process to be done, neither was he asked if he wanted it done to him, this decision was made by his music teachers. That decision is unreasonable to make for a ten year old boy, just so he can fulfill the wishes of his teachers (of hitting one note!). Farinelli s body was impacted by this in multiple... This is a reflection of how people with power change other people s lives to fit their own agenda. While many of the changes for Farinelli were positive, the fact of the matter is, the church elders, like powerful people everywhere, are monsters for taking advantage of a powerless human being. Farinelli was born in Italy back in 1705. He was a member of a church sponsored music school from when he was young. The leaders of this school were having trouble with the progression of music. The choirboys just couldn t hit the higher notes, as Passarello states, Mastering these complex new lines required years of training and a thoracic power that exceeded even the strongest and most gifted of choirboys. By the time they learned the proper technique for possessing the ecstatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
