The Libertarian Argument Analysis
In the United States institutionalized prohibition based cannabis policies defy widely accepted societal
values, delegitimizing the state s authority of law, neglecting its responsibility to respect individual
free will and ultimately, the right of self determination. These unjustified policies take a heavy
financial and social toll on society, forcing law enforcement to spend time and money to arrest a
majority of non violent, low level offenders. In addition, marijuana policies and enforcement have
been seen as inherently biased and discriminatory. Not only that, but the medical applications of
cannabis are increasingly becoming recognized and accepted as a standard in terms of treating
diseases and relieving physical or mental ailments. Furthermore, statistics have shown that
legalization leads to a decreased use of marijuana among teens and minors. Dollar wise, cannabis ...

Political activist and Libertarian representative J. Wilson comments on this saying We believe that
people own their own bodies and what they choose to put in them. That also means people own the
products of their labor (The Libertarian Argument for Legalizing Marijuana 2015). Accordingly, this
accounts for why the state should have no say to arbitrarily decide what people can and can t consume.
Prohibition must be measured against the deprivation of personal freedom. Likewise, the United States
has an obligation to the people to respect the right of self determination and individual free will. In
this case, self ownership prevails over government regulation in regards to prohibition based cannabis
policies. Hence, reform is necessary so the fundamental of self ownership isn t denied to individuals.
The principles of human freedom should be respected by the federal

Introduction Of A Primary Alcohol
Substitution
5. Introduction In this experiment, a primary alcohol was converted into a primary bromoalkane using
hydrobromic acid. The reaction was done under reflux and then distilled to obtain a product of higher
purity. The degree of the alkyl halide obtained from the experiment was tested with silver nitrate and
sodium iodide. An infrared (IR) spectra and the weight of the product were obtained for further
analysis. The IR gave information on the present functional groups and product weight was used to
calculate the percent yield.
6. Data and Results The product obtained after reflux was a yellow liquid. With the halide tests, the
product reacted faster with sodium iodide to form a precipitate than with silver nitrate. This indicates
that the degree of the product was primary and that bromine did replace the alcohol group. The IR of
the product showed four peaks at 3326.36, 2932.86, 1465.34, and 1028.73. These peaks indicate O H,
C H, C H3, and C O bonds, respectively, within the product. 2.032 grams of product were recovered
from the reaction. With this, a percent yield of 27.14% was calculated. 7. Discussion and Conclusion
Nucleophilic aliphatic substitution is the replacement of one group for another at a saturated, sp3
hybridized carbon atom. This process is often used to interconvert functional groups, such as in the
preparation of alkyl halides. In these reactions, nucleophiles attack the carbon atom which the
electronegative leaving group breaks its bond

Post Apocalyptic Hawaii Research Paper
Post Apocalyptic Hawaii
I t is the year 2300 in Hawaii, and we have been surviving on the consumption of Kelp for some long
time now. Well today I say it is over on growing and using Kelp for our own main food source and
consumption. Even though we are in a post apocalyptic Hawaii, we all gotta stick together and find a
better way or idea on getting food for us. To be able to get our population back on track to a growing
population again, we need to get rid of the corporation that s doing the production of Kelp. The kelp is
spreading a disease that s killing our children and people that we know and love that we all dearly
miss so much. So this is why I m trying to convince you authorities on looking into this issue and

Food Stamps Argumentative Essay
Argumentative Essay In 2014, almost seventy billion dollars was spent on the food stamp program.
Some may say that s a significant amount of money compared to how much the United States owes in
debt. Therefore, there should be more restrictions on who qualifies to get food stamps, and also on
how long people can receive them. If people are unemployed, then they should have applied to at least
three different jobs before being able to apply for food stamps. If people do have a job, then of course
they must be making below poverty level to qualify. The only exceptions should be made to full time
high school, community college, or university students, or have been in the last six months. Students
should have applied to at least one job before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only reason for why a person receiving food stamps cannot pass a drug test, is because the drug
being used is for medical reasons only. If one must take the drug test and not pass, then a warning
shall be given, along with two extra drug tests given monthly. If the same person does not pass the
second time, food stamps should be cut by twenty percent; if they cannot pass the third test given,
stamps should be cut by an additional thirty percent. Finally, if the same person has failed four
consecutive drug test, or four within three months, food stamps should be cut out completely with a
four month penalty before reapplying. The last restriction that should be applied to food stamps is how
long you are able to continue receiving them. A student would be to receive stamps as long as they are
enrolled in school. A parent, or household with children, can receive food stamps for the child until
he/she has graduated, or turned eighteen if the child has dropped out of school. This prevents someone
from dropping out of high school, still living with a parent, and the parent receiving food stamps for a
twenty one year old. An adult with no children receiving food stamps should be able to reapply in six

Analysis Of Paul Mccartney s The Abbey Road Picture

Paul is Dead A very famous conspiracy that many perceive to be true is that Paul McCartney is and
has been dead since 1966. It is believed that the band s manager and crew replaced him with a look
alike that also sounds like him. The conspiracy s believers say that there are plenty of clues within the
songs and the album art, and they even believe the Abbey Road picture has clues. This paper will
cover why the conspiracy may be true, why it may be fake, and at the end there will be an unbiased
opinion on the famous Beatle death . How can this conspiracy be perceived as true? The conspirators
make plenty of good points, like how his car was in an accident on November 9, 1966. This is
perceived to be the date of his death and the conspirators believe you can see the date if you put a
mirror halfway (horizontally) between the letters in the bass drum for Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts
Club Band album. If you set the mirror halfway like you re supposed to, you see 1 ONE IX HE DIE,
the 1 ONE being 11, which is November, and the IX being the 9th, when his car was involved in the
accident. Also on that album cover, Paul is seen raising his right hand, which in Eastern countries
represents death. The Lonely Hearts Club album cover is seen as a landmine of clues. The Beatles are
seen in band uniforms around the drum with cut out people all around them and flowers in the front.
People say they can see the flowers spell

The Significance Of The Lincoln Memorial
The location selected for a monument is a significant factor to consider when contemplating the
creation of a monument. For instance the Lincoln Memorial was built on the National Mall, in
Washington D.C., a place that is practically a pilgrimage site , as said by Kirk Savage in his book
Monument Wars (source A). The purpose of the monuments built on the National Mall are to bring
about a symbolic aura for the government. The Lincoln Memorial brings this aura by honoring
America s greatest president of all time , in the nation s capitol. Along with Lincoln s memorial, you
have the Constitution Gardens, the Washington Monument, and the Reflecting Pool laying the ground
for this pilgrimage site, attracting a lot of tourism. To place any ... Show more content on

A meticulously designed monument is more appealing to the eye, and a more memorable one, because
the first thing you notice about a monument is it s appearance. The Lincoln Memorial, as said by Kirk
Savage in Monument Wars (source A), is pure representation a colossal marble statue and the text of
two speeches carved on enormous panels, all housed in a neoclassical temple... Who would forget a
colossal monument with a beautiful design aesthetic, marble, hand carvings, all in an isolated area.
Less than a minute away from Lincoln, you have the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Maya Lin truly
designed an elaborate monument, she knew exactly what she wanted and did an outstanding job.

is wide and shallow, allowing for a sense of privacy, and the sunlight from the memorial s southern
exposure along with the grassy park surrounding and within its walls, contribute to the serenity of the
area. (vvmf.org). As Maya Lin said in another online article for the New York Review, Making the
Memorial , I chose black granite in order to make the surface reflective and peaceful... The mirrored

Characteristics Of A Representative Democracy
I. Introduction
Though the modern academic may describe a political regime as a democracy , what they almost
always imply is that said political regime is a representative democracy. A representative democracy
obtains its legitimacy from the agency of the people; for a democracy to be representative, officials are
elected to represent the interests of their citizens and are thus accountable to both the rules of political
institutions and the needs of their constituents. The most basic facets to a representative democracy
such as free and fair elections and strong competition between political parties are cornerstones to the
structuring of a representative democracy, and yet there are cases within the past century in which
representative democracies with elections and competitive political parties descend into authoritarian
regimes. So though the election of representatives is paramount to modern democracies, there are
other factors that constitute what Leonardo Morlino calls the qualities of democracy. Morlino
subdivides the qualities of a democracy into rule of law, electoral accountability, institutional
accountability, competition, participation, freedom and equality, and responsiveness.
There is no denial that all seven of these criteria Morlino are essential to the establishment and
maintenance of a representative democracy. However, I would like to argue that four of the most
important aspects to assessing the quality of a democracy are independent branches of

|Executive summery | Telecommunication industry is a booming sector in Bangladesh which is leading
by Grameen phone and followed by the some mobile operator like Aktel, Banglalink, Warid telecom,
City cell, Teletalk. This study is basically on Aktel; rationally we have taken Grameenphone as a
benchmark. Aktel is one of the early comers in the mobile sector but its current position is not
satisfactory. Their progress is not significant in comparison to Grameen phone and other existing
operator. This study tried to scrutinize the gap between them from the perspective of quality service.

|Methodology | Two types of data are generally used to prepare a research paper such as primary data
and secondary data. We have tried our best to collect both data information and have tried firm
intention to emphasis on primary data as it is often up to date and more useful than any public
information. We have visited both Aktel and Grameen phone center to collect actual and reliable data
as we can make the report fruitful. We have also collected secondary data including internet,
magazine, journal, periodical, and other publications. |Background of the study | Bangladesh, a
country with 150 million people, is a potential market for the mobile phone company. To capture this
potential market, some renowned and famous telecommunication companies have immerged in the
recent years. From the very beginning city cell was the pioneer of the mobile industry, and then
successively Grameenphone and Aktel have commenced their operation. In the course of time,
Grameenphone has achieved a significant position leaving the other operator behind. Emergence of

Teaching Strategies For Learning Style Preferences
It is in this article that Beck matches three teaching strategies to learning style preferences. During
which he attempts to link the 4MAT system, Dunn s LSI, and the Renzulli Smith s LSI to teaching
strategies associated to display individual learning preferences linked to the brain s hemispheres. The
4MAT system and Dunn s LSI is teacher driven teaching strategies while the Renzulli Smith s LSI
allows student input into their teaching strategies. In linking the 4MAT system to teaching strategies,
Beck further explores why certain teaching strategies are more successful and hemispheric appropriate
when adapted to their individual natural tendencies. Student learning tendencies are associated with
left mode, right mode, or multi mode tendencies. Dunn s LSI includes a wide range of motivations
that teachers should consider when determining individual learning styles that may include
psychological and cognitive variables. However, Renzulli Smith s LSI permits student to provide their
input to list their favorite to least favorite activities. All three LSI have significance, but it is ultimately
the teacher s role to provide opportunities for each student to unharness their potential.
The focus of this article was to perform research on the Preferred Teaching Approach Inventory
(PTAI) including psychometric properties. This was performed to determine students preferred
teaching styles impacted their personal learning styles. The research suggested that

is really the only friend that he has other than John and Lorraine. He always goes to the zoo to feed
Bobo. I know it seems weird for a baboon that Lorraine describes as the ugliest, most vicious looking
baboon I ve ever seen in my life to be significant to the story, but Bobo is really important. Bobo is
like a son to Mr. Pignati. Every day, he always walks down to the zoo to feed Bobo, but is not a young
man anymore. Later towards the end of Chapter 10, going to the zoo was one of the many factors that
contributed to Mr. Pignati s heart attack. As Lorraine says on page 109, I had forgotten about Mr.

Once at Beekman s, they first went to the fancy food delicatessen on the 8th floor. At the store, Mr.

3 Asset Replacement
The Baltic Company is considering the purchase of a new machine tool to replace an obsolete one.
The machine being used for the operation has a tax basis book value of $80,000, with an annual
depreciation expense of $8,000. It has a resale value today of $40,000, is in good working order, and
will last, physically, for at least 10 more years. The proposed machine will perform the operation so
much more efficiently and Baltic engineers estimate that labor, material, and other direct costs of the
operation will be reduced $60,000 a year if it is installed. The proposed machine costs $240,000
delivered and installed, and its economic life is estimated at 10 years, with zero salvage value. The
company expects to earn 14 percent on its investment after taxes (14 percent is the firm s cost of
capital). The tax rate is 40 percent, and the firm uses straight line depreciation. Any gain or loss on the
sale of the machine at retirement is subject to tax at 40 percent. Should Baltic buy the new machine?

Anglo Saxon society was decidedly patriarchal, but women were in some ways better off than they
would be in later times. A woman could own property in her own right. She could and did rule a
kingdom if her husband died. She could not be married without her consent and any personal goods,
including lands that she brought into a marriage remained her own property. If she were injured or
abused in her marriage her relatives were expected to look after her interests (David Ross.) The
women were responsible for grounding of grains, baking of bread, brewing of beer, making of butter
and cheese. During this era it was dangerous to travel; thus, most people would travel only if it was
unavoidable. If possible they would travel by water along the coast or along the river. During the early
Anglo Saxon period England was a very different place from what it is today. The human population
was very small. They grew their own food and made their own clothes... The lord and kin had the
strongest ties in the Anglo Saxon society. The ties of loyalty were to the person of a lord. There was no
real concept of patriotism or loyalty to a cause. Kings could not, except in exceptional circumstances,
make new laws. Their role instead was to uphold and clarify previous custom. The first act of a
conquering king was often to assure his subjects that he would uphold their ancient privileges, laws,
and customs (David Ross.) One of the most famous kings during the

Mammography And Breast Cancer
Introduction
Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant cells form in the breast tissue. There are many different
kinds of breast cancer, which is determined by which cells in the breast that are cancerous. The
lobules, ducts, and connective tissue are the three main parts that make up the breast. Most cancer
starts in the ducts and lobules with the most common being invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive
lobular carcinoma. In invasive ductal the cancer cells grow outside the ducts of the breast into other
parts of the breast tissue and may metastasize to other parts of the body. Invasive lobular cancer starts
in the lobules of the breast and spreads to the nearby breast tissue or other parts of the body.

Another limitation is that many of the articles did not report outcomes separately for the average
women and those who are high risk leaving room for estimates to be biased. Quantitative estimates of
outcomes were based from a relatively simple approach which could cause over or underestimation of
mortality reduction. In conclusion, this study found that breast cancer screenings are associated with a
20% reduction in mortality rates among women of any age at average risk.
Each one of these articles provides information to support breast cancer screening but it also provides
evidence that many false positives have been brought on by over use of screening. Women need a

provide evidence of why screenings have been changed to after the age of 50 years old and biennially.

Sidewinder Snakes
Dr. Joseph Mendelson from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Atlanta Zoo presented his
research on the mechanism used by sidewinder snakes for locomotion on sand with the
implementation of a robot snake as a model system. The research study involved the collaboration of
the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake
movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because
they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. Dr. Mendelson was able to
determine that the robot snake which mimics a snake that slithers is unable to move on sand with an
inclination greater than zero degrees. The research involved the use of a sandbox which ... Show more

From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly optimized
based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot snake was
manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary, but be
maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research study
involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a different
direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions horizontally or
vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake demonstrated an
unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and vertical wave movement
on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal turning locomotion. Through the
investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his co researchers were able to discover
that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to implement a different locomotion on
inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which
can just turn their heads in a slight angle away from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results
showed that the reason for this cost is due to the mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head
does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with
their body. A study that is currently being conducted involves the investigation of the interface
between a floor substrate and the skin of a

Training Program For A Jrotc Instructor

Discrimination In The Fourth Amendment
The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was conscripted to safeguard the right to be free from
governmental imposition. Devoid of a warrant and authentic probable cause, an officer cannot go into
a home and search it. The Fourth Amendment protects against unreasonable searches and seizures and
enforces both a meticulousness and probable cause requirement for issuing warrants. The fourth
amendment seems to be fitting for the early immigrants. Discrimination is a very serious problem for
society even back to date. People do discriminate against each other whether their actions are
intentional or happen due to the lack of knowledge or elaborate sociological triggers as well as
societal misconceptions and personal obliviousness. During early immigration, immigrants were
receiving this treatment more than ever according to Multicultural Reading in Context writer s
Barbara Roche Rico and Sandra Mano states, As soon as they arrived, immigrant families were
detained at the immigration center for a series of debasing questions and medical examinations (Rico
and Mano 160). There is no type of privacy shown here. As far as historical records show, no society
or nation has been invulnerable to discrimination, either as victim or victimizer. In all countries there
is at least one type of discrimination that impacts diverse groups of people. During this time in the
1800s even the Fourth Amendment was null in void to most Americans concerning immigrants

I would recommend we use this age group as a starting point to gather more information and

how and when items should be marketed according to age and income levels. I would recommend that
a strategy is developed that targets the 25 to 35 year old age groups. This age group had a low amount
of purchases during this time frame. For this age group, I would recommend a strategy that advertise
on social media sites and possibly have a popular young star become a sponsor of the product.
Another age group with low sales is the 65 to 77 year group. This group has the least amount of sales
and depending on the product a combination of television and radio ads may persuade these buyers to

Pros And Cons Of Texting On Writing
In the academic article Does Texting Affect Writing? Michaela Cullington weighs the pros and mostly
cons on texting hindering your formal writing. A college level paper is to be considered the first step
in writing at a scholarly level by experts. In high school we write for the recreation with genres like
short stories or poems. In college we are expected to write more for rhetorical analysis or things that
don t include your personal point of view. Texting hasn t been around and as trendy as it is now as the
average person doesn t start texting until their freshman year of high school. Texting use to be frowned
upon as a sort of childish thing but as Cullington states ...and is even becoming popular in the business
world because it allows quick messages to be sent without people having to commit to a telephone
conversation.
Early on Cullington gave us all the contrary implications of texting s effect. Things like Textspeak or
abbreviations and acronyms used in student s formal writing are some of the many negative
connotations of texting. For example teachers we finding that student were using slang like GTG
which is short for the phrase got to go peppered through writing samples. Another disagreement she
had was with the student s misuse of or lack thereof punctuation in their writing. Because texting
doesn t emphasize the importance of the correct punctuation in writing students overlook the simple
things in writing formally. She also feels, like many others, that

America Needs Media Censorship Essay
America Needs Media Censorship
Introduction
In a world in which acts of heinous violence, murder or crude and shocking behavior seem to be a
normal occurrence, it may lead one to wonder what has put society onto this slippery slope. How did
this type of behavior come to be so acceptable and in some cases glorifiable? A careful study of
society may lead to multi media as being the main cause in this changing of ideals. The modern world
has become desensitized to the acts shown on television, movies, video games or printed in
newspapers and magazines. Censorship must be employed if morals and decency are to be preserved.
Censorship is a controversial word that has been with us since who knows when. Ancient dictators

Evidence that shows censorship may be positive is explained when we examine what drives
delinquent activity. ?To see this, we must take a look at what is inside the mind of a criminal. Eighty
one percent of criminals rate pornography as their highest sexual interest. This means that a clear
majority of criminals like pornography and find it highly interesting. Most other people probably rank
other human beings as their highest sexual interest.? Further evidence of the relation between
pornography and crime is seen when an adult bookstore is closed; the crime rate in the surrounding
areas falls significantly. With this we see that censorship is a helpful idea for America. People don?t
realize that violence on television or video games does have effect on them. Take, for example, the
video game ?James Bond,? one of the highest selling games ever. This games put you in the eyes of an
assailant and makes killing look like fun, or that its no big deal. Another example is sex on T.V. A boy
that has been brought up with never watching sexual explicate material or being surrounded by people
that talk about sexual activities, would be less likely to be as interested in the practice of sex, as a kid
that watches porno all the time, making him less likely to commit a sexual crime. ?A lot of people in
the world are against censorship just for the mere reason they say it?s unconstitutional;? they believe it
is taking away

Alfred Stevens La Parisienne Japonisme Essay
Alfred Stevens La Parisienne Japonaise is a painting of oil on canvas painted in 1872. This artwork I
have chosen is a clear example of Japonisme from its time. The artist s work of Japonisme blossomed
after the Japanese western trade agreement at the Paris World Fair of 1855. The influence of Japanese
goods and art in the western world embarked a strong blend of culture in art. Prints, as well as other
decorative materials, became exotic goods in the west.
Alfred Stevens was a Belgian painter who was greatly influenced by Japanese culture he housed
numerous trinkets and Japanese goods. His painting shows a young woman dressed in a blue kimono,
a Japanese robe, while holding a fan. During this time of artistic breakthrough, Stevens worked ...

The culture of what is painted and the medium of the painting display interculturalism. The Kimono
robe gave a sense of intimacy within the subjects. The blankness of the backgrounds emphasizes the
women in the foreground and of course their attire. La Parisienne Japonaise was meant to highlight
exoticism in foreign fashion.
Hybrid art follows the contemporary art movement from centuries ago. The term refers to the
combination, or blend, of two different forms of art. This could mean the blurring of cultural, artistic,
and traditional boundaries. The development of these combinations creates new artistic concepts and
documentation of cultural influences. Those of the west may have underrated the simplicity of
Japanese art. The adoption of western style painting gave those of the east the chance to prove they
can be just as talented.
Wisdom, Impression, Sentiment by Chi Kan Jo is an example of Japanese adoption of western
techniques. The painting is from 1899 and made by oil on canvas. This medium defers from those of
traditional Japanese such as ink and print, opening new opportunities. Nudity was not an ideal for
Japanese art at the time, however it was so in the west. This piece shows three nude females in their
mere neutrality. The similar to the piece by Alfred Stevens, the golden, planar background attests to
that of a Japanese folding screen. These incorporations

The Growing Up Of A Refugee Camp
Moving to America was the biggest change in my life. Before, I know very little of this world and my
thoughts and opinion were very narrow. I did not have the best education and I think little about my
future since I lived in a refugee camp. I also could not open myself up to people of different
background because of the lack of diversity while living in the camp. But moving to America I was
introduced with a new culture, education, and diversity that changes my life and my views.
Before I moved to America I lived in a Thailand refugee camp called Mae La. Growing up in Mae La
camp there was not a lot of diversity since most people who live there were Karen people. All my
neighbor were Karen, therefore I was not close to people of different background or people with
different ethnicity. I could not open up to them easily since I only speak Karen language. I was more
comfortable with the Karen people too since I know mostly Karen people and my school was full of
Karen kids. I went to a mission school in Mae la and the school in Mae La refugee camp was not well
made like the one in US, it was made of bamboo and there was no floor. Mae La also have a poor
education system so many Karen student including myself did not get a full advance education like the
one in America. Since I was still a kid when I lived in Mae La camp, I did not know about the struggle
of living in refugee camp.
One day I come home from school and my family told me that we were moving to America. I could

U.s. Citizens During The Civil War
In order to look into the lives of the U.S. citizens during the Civil War I decided to look into the first
week from April 12, 1861 to April 18, 1861 of the New York Times. I looked into this week of articles
to see how the New York Times covered the outbreak of the war and the people s response to it. Some
of the main war events covered were: call for Union to relinquish command of Fort Sumter and first
shots of the war, reaction to the surrender of Fort Sumter, Lincoln s Proclamation to add seventy five
thousand volunteers to the war efforts, possible attacks on Fort Pickens, and the Confederate reaction
to Lincoln s Proclamation. During this week, the north was obviously nervous and scared yet felt they
would win as well as confused as to why the war was happening at all. The April 12 paper included
information on the confederates asking Major Anderson to surrender Fort Sumter and strategies for the
defense of the fort. In the Times article The Forts in Charleston Harbor there is a sense that the union
forces have positioned themselves well and the confederates have waited too long allowing the
opportunity for reinforcements to arrive if needed at Fort Sumter. This feeling can be seen in the final
sentence where it reads: But be the motive what it may, there is little doubt that they have lost the
golden opportunity, and that the Stars and Stripes will continue to wave over the old fort, unless
puerile negotiations should allow the Confederate force to prepare

Midsummer Night Dream Analysis
A Midsummer s Night Dream
William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy
which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays.
One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love is
represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a comical
and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous and
intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and Lysander and
Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love and magic
throughout the play.
Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over heels
for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict Athenian law.
In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and dominating tone to
state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act spontaneously and irrationally and as
a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married. This entertains the audience by adding
more conflict and complication to the story. After they elope to the forest, magic becomes the force
that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in
irrational ways when he is put under the spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves
on Helena, and how much he hates Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I
will shake thee from me like a serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his
hate toward Hermia and orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has
fallen in love with Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion,
hence! Conflict between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because
of the dramatic irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in
different words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone.
Oberon and Titania are the

What Is The Character OfThe House Of The Scorpion
The main character of The House of the Scorpion is named Matt who lives in a place called Opium.
Opium is a strip of poppy fields lying between the United States and what used to be called Mexico.
There is one problem for Matt because he is the clone who was made in a lab by a scientist named
Eduardo. In the real world people think clones are animals or monsters. He is a special clone because
he is the clone of El Patron, a drug lord, who owns Opium. At the end, El Patron dies which then
causes Matt to have the title, The Lord of Opium
In the book The House of the Scorpion there are many characters that stand out, but the one that stands
out the most for me is Tom.Tom really stood out for me because he was one of the people that was
really mean and rude to as well as a troublemaker to Matt the main character. For example it says, You
re ugly, said the boy.You look like a pig in a sty. Matt wanted to reply, but the habit of silence had
grown too strong. He could only glare at the intruder. In the hazy background of his mind, he recalled
a boy named Tom, who was bad. In this quote not only does it say that Tom was bad, but Tom was
also saying some rude things to Matt like calling him ugly. As well as another quote in the story, That
got you, didn t it? Wait ll I tell your girlfriend how cute you are now.You smell like a pile of dung.
This shows that Tom is mean because he is telling Matt that he smells bad which I was thought to keep
things to myself if they are mean.

American Dream or African American American Nightmare
The Declaration of Independence was written so Americans could achieve this dream, but the African
slave was never intended to be a part of this American Dream. To the African American, there were
and still are many restrictions that go along with the American Dream.
In Toni Morrison s novel, Song of Solomon, Macon Dead craved for the American Dream. He was in
denial and believed that he could be just as successful as the white man. Macon desired to own
everything, including people. Macon tells Milkman the following:

woman at the top of the stairs there was no way for him to resist climbing up toward her outstretched
hands, her fingers spread wide for him, her mouth gaping open for him, her eyes devouring him. In a
dream you climb stairs (239).
Was this old woman, Circe, real or part of one of Milkman s dreams/nightmares? Could Macon s
grandfather really fly?:
He was flying. He flew. You know, like a bird. Just stood up in the fields one day, ran up some hill,
spun around a couple of times, and was lifted up in the air. Went right on back to wherever it was he
came from (323).
Was Ruth, Milkman s mother, almost swallowed up by her garden plants as Milkman watched from
the kitchen window?:
They were smothering her, taking away her breath with their soft jagged lips. And she merely smiled
and fought them off as though they were harmless butterflies (105).
It really does not matter because dreams become reality and vice versa in Milkman s world.
The dream of the women in Song of Solomon was to find a man or husband to take care of them. Ruth
thought that by marrying a man with Macon s status, money and ownership of property, she would
live the perfect fairytale life. This dream turns into a nightmare as Macon either ignores her or raises a
hand to strike her. This unhappy marriage often caused Ruth to dream about

Black Molly Research Paper
There are some peculiar varieties of fish which requires special conditions for their existence. Black
molly is one of them.
Black Molly is a brackish fish. Such type of fish cannot sustain in either pure freshwater or in pure
saltwater. They must be kept in a tank with water which has some salt. The quantity of salt may not be
very high like normal saltwater but there has to be some salt required for them to live. Naturally you
cannot easily accommodate Black Molly with other fish in fresh water or salt water tanks.
You should make some on line research and also consult your pet shop owner about how much salt
needs to be placed in the water.

Usually it resembles a black guppy fish. This is a live bearer fish. So you need to provide a lot of baby
fish around the adults. If you keep a pair of a male and a female with no young ones around, they may
not be comfortable with the environment and may develop stress which may even result in their death.
In spite of these specific requirements, Black Molly is an easy fish to care. You should put the fish in a
tank with the water capacity of 10 gallons or more. This is required for taking care of their living
environment. The fish will grow up to two inches over a period of time. If you want to keep a family
of them in the tank, which is recommended, you should calculate the water capacity at two gallons per
one inch of fish. So if the family consists of 10 members, you can keep them in a tank of 20 plus
gallons.
The temperature of water should be kept in the range of 75 85 degrees. You should install a lighting
system to provide sufficient light for them. They will usually require 6 hours of light every day. Please
do not keep the light for longer time. In that case, the temperature of the water will increase and the
fish will get over heated. Providing light for 6 hours will resemble their natural

Chapter I
Statement of Purpose The author has had a lifetime of experience with athletics in multiple sports as
an athlete, as a coach, and now as an athletic director at a high school. As an athlete that was highly
competitive, his mindset was to always work hard and do whatever it took to win. About a year after
all of his college eligibility has been completed his good friend took a job at a high school in San
Bernardino as a water polo coach and asked him to come out to the pool to teach his boys a few
things. The author took on an assistant coaching position from that point on for the next 6 years
because he loved teaching the athletes what it was to not only be a competitor but to be a competitor
the right way, through hard work and respecting the game. He eventually took over the program and
progressed from a coach who wanted to desperately win to a coach that wanted his kids to be
successful at everything they attempted to do above all else. That mindset has spilled over into his job
as an athletic administrator at a new high school. Leadership positions, whether they are as an

The Dawn Of Retinal Prosthetic Devices
The Dawn of Retinal Prosthetic Devices
The war against human blindness has been ongoing affair since the beginning of time. Because the
origin of blindness varies from case to case, there is no single remedy and limited solutions are
available to the visually impaired. However, recent technological breakthroughs have allowed
scientists and doctors to test out possible solutions to a particular niche in the blindness spectrum:
degenerative retinal diseases. Degenerative retinal diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) attack
the retina exclusively. Because of that exclusivity, the other structures in the eye are typically not
compromised. Therefore, the use of a retinal implant or prosthetic device to restore functional vision is
possible. While it is important to note that retinal implants are still a pioneering technology, clinical
trials such as the Argus II clinical trial, and eye health care professionals alike are reporting promising
results. As such, it seems likely that retinal prosthetic devices will be a game changer in the future
treatment of degenerative retinal diseases since the devices can restore a form of vision to an
otherwise blind patient.

Birthing Cermonies Of Other Cultures Essay
Birthing Cermonies of Other Cultures
The birthing ceremonies of the Indian culture has a lot of different aspects then the American culture
does. I guess that is why they are different cultures. All cultures have different views on different
things such as religion, but they also share the same as well for example every culture has some form
of the family. This is what helps most cultures understand other cultures. In the Indian culture their
view of bringing a child into the world is much different then the American culture s view.
In the Indian culture there are a lot of preparations that go into getting the parents and the community
ready for the new member. Their culture does more work with the child before they are even born.

heated up and then the door is shut and then cold water is poured on the rocks and this makes steam.
This is said to prevent the mother from having a miscarriage. A lot of times they add Herb s and leaves

Diabetes effects all body systems not just the endocrine. All three types can effect and cause damage
to the neurological, renal, and circulatory systems.
There are different treatment options for Type 1 and 2 diabetes that include oral medications, insulin
injections, and insulin pumps(Diabetes and Kidney Disease). Oral medications are the most
commonly used because of their ease of use and usually lowers the hemoglobin A1C effectively but
can at times cause hypoglycemia (glucose levels falling below normal range of values). Oral
medications are also mostly used for Type 2. Insulin is the method of choice in type 1 diabetes
treatment plans. Insulin injections help reproduce the secretions of the pancreas. There are two types
of insulin that is used, long acting and short acting. These help to better manage a person depending
on meal consumption, caloric intake, and carbohydrate intake. Another way to manage type 1 is by an
insulin pump. An insulin pump delivers continuous subcutaneous infusion of insulin (Lemur and

release different amounts of insulin depending on the time of day to better manage glucose levels
without multiple injections daily.

very similar to America from the 1960 s. While it is true that Black Americans have gained civil rights
and liberties, it is the current state of American society itself as well as white fright that dismisses
these rights. The most infamous example of this is, of course, police shootings. Since the Trayvon
Martin case, the United States seems to have exploded with more police shootings in which white
police officers shoot unarmed black men. According to Mapping Police Violence, Police killed at least
102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week (Police Violence). Indeed, America is now
like the 1950 s because while Black Americans are now free to vote, walk in public, and partake in
public programs of U.S. society, certain institutions still attempt to suppress their rights. This
attempting at suppression of Black civil rights, moreover, can be attributed to white fright. The violent
reaction to more Black Americans in the public sector schools, entertainment, politics, etc. can be said
to be a consequence of white fright. Generally speaking, white fright, may be defined as the fear of
white, working middle classmen whose liberties would be replaced by the liberties of some other. This
other, may be Black Americans, Asian Americans, immigrants, and anyone else who does not fulfill
the historical, ideological definition of white man since the Civil War

House Of Tudor Research Paper
Imagine you were royalty. You got to eat fancy dinners, were pampered, and was waited on hand and
foot. This is how it was for the House of Tudor in 16th Century England. The people included in this
royal family are Henry VIII, Edward I, Lady Jane Grey, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. The House of Tudor,
the ruling family of 16th Century England, was an influential ruling family whether it was positive or
negative, most of the time it was negative though. Tudor history is complicated with many interwoven
stories. Owen Tudor is the first of the known Tudors. He was a welsh adventurer; he fought in a war
where Henry V was beheaded. Owen married Henry V s widow, Catherine of Valois. They had a kid
named Edmund who married a girl named Margaret. Margaret ... Show more content on

The first ruler after Henry VIII died was his son, Edward VII. He was a child when he was crowned at
Westminster. Henry VIII tried not to crown Edward as a child, but he failed. Edward was very close
with his stepmother, Katherine Parr, Elizabeth, his sister, and Mary, his other sister. Edward made
many protestant laws during his rule. When Edward died he didn t want Mary I to rule so he made his
cousin, Lady Jane Grey, ruler. Lady Jane Grey was the second ruler of England. Lady Jane Grey was
made queen but only ruled for nine days. She is also known as the nine day queen. Jane married
Guildford Dudley as a child. The Dudleys knew about what the king chose to do and they only had
Guilford marry her so they could be royalty. After Jane was made queen, she realized their plan and
told Guildford she would never make him king, but only a duke. He ran out and Jane realized she had
to make him king because she had to have an heir. Mary overthrew Jane and became queen. Mary was
the third ruler of kids. Mary became ruler at age 37. She was neglected as a child because not many of
Henry s wives liked her. She was Catholic rather than protest and because her mom would be the
queen if Henry hadn t divorced her mom. Mary also wanted to have a child so she married the prince
of Spain. He wouldn t marry Mary until she killed every protestant in England; this is how she got the
name, Bloody Mary. She also wanted to have a child and

The Cream Thermos At Starbucks
The cream thermos at Starbucks
It was Sunday morning, the first Sunday of spring in Greenville, SC.
I had just received and email containing a much awaited feedback. It was negative. I was
disappointed.
Oh well. Being an adult, I had no right to be so utterly distressed with every broken dream. I had a
husband to attend to, therefore I asked Alan if he would like to go out for breakfast.
In all honesty, if I merely intended to go on living, a radical change was in order. I just didn t know
where to start. Maybe going out for breakfast on a spring Sunday. Maybe stopping to write about my
constant failures and start focusing on success.
I could certainly tell you, that is, tell people outside the U.S., how stunning the beginning of
springtime in this country is. There are fresh strokes of color all over the place, as if a talented painter
had just woken up and put his hands to work. Nature. Maybe God. Uplifting, from every angle you
looked at it.
We drove to our favorite breakfast joint, a 5 minute drive from our house. House, not home. I hate this
house, Alan had just admitted. I was encouraged to agree. I hated it myself. We ve lived here too long.
The breakfast place was packed, it had a half hour wait. It might be too late for breakfast; or, on the
other hand, this was the exact time for people who went to church, a vast majority in this neck of the
woods, dubbed the Bible belt. Other restaurants would be packed as well, so we postponed coffee for
a while and

Theu.s. Roosevelt And Taft Administrations
Throughout the early 1900s the Marine Corps was becoming acquainted with the island of Hispaniola
that was split between two nations, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Both nations had a political
tradition that dictated office holding as a political right and economic requirement for the political
class known as the elite and the caudillos. Consequently, both governments acquired a considerable
amount of debt during this time period in order to sustain the habits of this tradition. The United States
developed an active interest in Hispaniola following the War with Spain and the construction of the
Panama Canal. The Roosevelt and Taft administrations were primarily focused with the traditional
tasks of protecting American lives and property. However, the US government shifted its focus to
economic and strategic concerns as the State and Navy Departments engaged in gunboat diplomacy, a
foreign policy that is supported by the use or threat of military force. Among these concerns was
European intervention and establishing bases throughout the Caribbean. The US would have to protect
Haiti and the Dominican Republic simultaneously by denying European activity in the American
sphere of interest and to preserve foreign investments for both the United States and Hispaniola.
While the State Department was exploring different options to manage Haiti s economy, there were
several other responsibilities that had to be addressed in the Dominican Republic. In 1911, the

  • 2. The Libertarian Argument Analysis In the United States institutionalized prohibition based cannabis policies defy widely accepted societal values, delegitimizing the state s authority of law, neglecting its responsibility to respect individual free will and ultimately, the right of self determination. These unjustified policies take a heavy financial and social toll on society, forcing law enforcement to spend time and money to arrest a majority of non violent, low level offenders. In addition, marijuana policies and enforcement have been seen as inherently biased and discriminatory. Not only that, but the medical applications of cannabis are increasingly becoming recognized and accepted as a standard in terms of treating diseases and relieving physical or mental ailments. Furthermore, statistics have shown that legalization leads to a decreased use of marijuana among teens and minors. Dollar wise, cannabis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Political activist and Libertarian representative J. Wilson comments on this saying We believe that people own their own bodies and what they choose to put in them. That also means people own the products of their labor (The Libertarian Argument for Legalizing Marijuana 2015). Accordingly, this accounts for why the state should have no say to arbitrarily decide what people can and can t consume. Prohibition must be measured against the deprivation of personal freedom. Likewise, the United States has an obligation to the people to respect the right of self determination and individual free will. In this case, self ownership prevails over government regulation in regards to prohibition based cannabis policies. Hence, reform is necessary so the fundamental of self ownership isn t denied to individuals. The principles of human freedom should be respected by the federal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Introduction Of A Primary Alcohol Substitution 5. Introduction In this experiment, a primary alcohol was converted into a primary bromoalkane using hydrobromic acid. The reaction was done under reflux and then distilled to obtain a product of higher purity. The degree of the alkyl halide obtained from the experiment was tested with silver nitrate and sodium iodide. An infrared (IR) spectra and the weight of the product were obtained for further analysis. The IR gave information on the present functional groups and product weight was used to calculate the percent yield. 6. Data and Results The product obtained after reflux was a yellow liquid. With the halide tests, the product reacted faster with sodium iodide to form a precipitate than with silver nitrate. This indicates that the degree of the product was primary and that bromine did replace the alcohol group. The IR of the product showed four peaks at 3326.36, 2932.86, 1465.34, and 1028.73. These peaks indicate O H, C H, C H3, and C O bonds, respectively, within the product. 2.032 grams of product were recovered from the reaction. With this, a percent yield of 27.14% was calculated. 7. Discussion and Conclusion Nucleophilic aliphatic substitution is the replacement of one group for another at a saturated, sp3 hybridized carbon atom. This process is often used to interconvert functional groups, such as in the preparation of alkyl halides. In these reactions, nucleophiles attack the carbon atom which the electronegative leaving group breaks its bond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though we are in a post apocalyptic Hawaii, we all gotta stick together and find a better way or idea on getting food for us. To be able to get our population back on track to a growing population again, we need to get rid of the corporation that s doing the production of Kelp. Some may say that s a significant amount of money compared to how much the United States owes in debt. Therefore, there should be more restrictions on who qualifies to get food stamps, and also on how long people can receive them. If people are unemployed, then they should have applied to at least three different jobs before being able to apply for food stamps. If people do have a job, then of course they must be making below poverty level to qualify. The only exceptions should be made to full time high school, community college, or university students, or have been in the last six months. Students should have applied to at least one job before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only reason for why a person receiving food stamps cannot pass a drug test, is because the drug being used is for medical reasons only. If one must take the drug test and not pass, then a warning shall be given, along with two extra drug tests given monthly. If the same person does not pass the second time, food stamps should be cut by twenty percent; if they cannot pass the third test given, stamps should be cut by an additional thirty percent. Finally, if the same person has failed four consecutive drug test, or four within three months, food stamps should be cut out completely with a four month penalty before reapplying. The last restriction that should be applied to food stamps is how long you are able to continue receiving them. A student would be to receive stamps as long as they are enrolled in school. A parent, or household with children, can receive food stamps for the child until he/she has graduated, or turned eighteen if the child has dropped out of school. This prevents someone from dropping out of high school, still living with a parent, and the parent receiving food stamps for a twenty one year old. • 6. Analysis Of Paul Mccartney s The Abbey Road Picture Dakota Pierce Mr. Bergmann Senior English P2 1 April 2015 Paul is Dead A very famous conspiracy that many perceive to be true is that Paul McCartney is and has been dead since 1966. It is believed that the band s manager and crew replaced him with a look alike that also sounds like him. The conspiracy s believers say that there are plenty of clues within the songs and the album art, and they even believe the Abbey Road picture has clues. This paper will cover why the conspiracy may be true, why it may be fake, and at the end there will be an unbiased opinion on the famous Beatle death . How can this conspiracy be perceived as true? The conspirators make plenty of good points, like how his car was in an accident on November 9, 1966. This is perceived to be the date of his death and the conspirators believe you can see the date if you put a mirror halfway (horizontally) between the letters in the bass drum for Sergeant Pepper s Lonely Hearts Club Band album. If you set the mirror halfway like you re supposed to, you see 1 ONE IX HE DIE, the 1 ONE being 11, which is November, and the IX being the 9th, when his car was involved in the accident. Also on that album cover, Paul is seen raising his right hand, which in Eastern countries represents death. The Lonely Hearts Club album cover is seen as a landmine of clues. The Beatles are seen in band uniforms around the drum with cut out people all around them and flowers in the front. People say they can see the flowers spell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance the Lincoln Memorial was built on the National Mall, in Washington D.C., a place that is practically a pilgrimage site , as said by Kirk Savage in his book Monument Wars (source A). The purpose of the monuments built on the National Mall are to bring about a symbolic aura for the government. The Lincoln Memorial brings this aura by honoring America s greatest president of all time , in the nation s capitol. Who would forget a colossal monument with a beautiful design aesthetic, marble, hand carvings, all in an isolated area. Less than a minute away from Lincoln, you have the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. • 8. Characteristics Of A Representative Democracy I. Introduction Though the modern academic may describe a political regime as a democracy , what they almost always imply is that said political regime is a representative democracy. A representative democracy obtains its legitimacy from the agency of the people; for a democracy to be representative, officials are elected to represent the interests of their citizens and are thus accountable to both the rules of political institutions and the needs of their constituents. The most basic facets to a representative democracy such as free and fair elections and strong competition between political parties are cornerstones to the structuring of a representative democracy, and yet there are cases within the past century in which representative democracies with elections and competitive political parties descend into authoritarian regimes. So though the election of representatives is paramount to modern democracies, there are other factors that constitute what Leonardo Morlino calls the qualities of democracy. Morlino subdivides the qualities of a democracy into rule of law, electoral accountability, institutional accountability, competition, participation, freedom and equality, and responsiveness. There is no denial that all seven of these criteria Morlino are essential to the establishment and maintenance of a representative democracy. However, I would like to argue that four of the most important aspects to assessing the quality of a democracy are independent branches of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Teaching Strategies For Learning Style Preferences It is in this article that Beck matches three teaching strategies to learning style preferences. During which he attempts to link the 4MAT system, Dunn s LSI, and the Renzulli Smith s LSI to teaching strategies associated to display individual learning preferences linked to the brain s hemispheres. The 4MAT system and Dunn s LSI is teacher driven teaching strategies while the Renzulli Smith s LSI allows student input into their teaching strategies. In linking the 4MAT system to teaching strategies, Beck further explores why certain teaching strategies are more successful and hemispheric appropriate when adapted to their individual natural tendencies. Student learning tendencies are associated with left mode, right mode, or multi mode tendencies. Dunn s LSI includes a wide range of motivations that teachers should consider when determining individual learning styles that may include psychological and cognitive variables. However, Renzulli Smith s LSI permits student to provide their input to list their favorite to least favorite activities. All three LSI have significance, but it is ultimately the teacher s role to provide opportunities for each student to unharness their potential. The focus of this article was to perform research on the Preferred Teaching Approach Inventory (PTAI) including psychometric properties. This was performed to determine students preferred teaching styles impacted their personal learning styles. The research suggested that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anglo Saxon society was decidedly patriarchal, but women were in some ways better off than they would be in later times. A woman could own property in her own right. She could and did rule a kingdom if her husband died. She could not be married without her consent and any personal goods, including lands that she brought into a marriage remained her own property. If she were injured or abused in her marriage her relatives were expected to look after her interests (David Ross.) The women were responsible for grounding of grains, baking of bread, brewing of beer, making of butter and cheese. During this era it was dangerous to travel; thus, most people would travel only if it was unavoidable. If possible they would travel by water along the coast or along the river. The research study involved the collaboration of the physics, engineering and biology departments to further understand the nature of snake movements. Sidewinders are snakes that are able to move on sand at different inclinations because they do not slither but rather employ a different mechanism of movement. From the observations of snakes in nature, the results showed that their locomotion is truly optimized based on their repeated operations being maintained in an effective zone. The robot snake was manipulated with different durations and amounts of lifts and contacts that would vary, but be maintained in the ineffective zone due to the failed movement on sand. Another research study involved the examination of the mechanisms employed by sidewinders for turning in a different direction of movement. The results suggested that sidewinders change directions horizontally or vertically by changing the angle of their head. An analysis of the robot snake demonstrated an unobservable locomotion that it is possible to move in both a horizontal and vertical wave movement on the sand in order to change directions via a differential or reversal turning locomotion. Through the investigation of these research studies, Dr. Mendelson and his co researchers were able to discover that in effect sidewinders suffer a cost of being able to implement a different locomotion on inclinations of sand. Sidewinders are not able to avoid obstacles as easily as snakes that slither which can just turn their heads in a slight angle away from the obstacle in order to avoid it. The results showed that the reason for this cost is due to the mechanism that sidewinders use for which the head does not reach the obstacle first to avoid the obstacle beforehand instead of being tangled by it with their body. In college we are expected to write more for rhetorical analysis or things that don t include your personal point of view. How did this type of behavior come to be so acceptable and in some cases glorifiable? A careful study of society may lead to multi media as being the main cause in this changing of ideals. The modern world has become desensitized to the acts shown on television, movies, video games or printed in newspapers and magazines. Most other people probably rank other human beings as their highest sexual interest.? This artwork I have chosen is a clear example of Japonisme from its time. The artist s work of Japonisme blossomed after the Japanese western trade agreement at the Paris World Fair of 1855. The influence of Japanese goods and art in the western world embarked a strong blend of culture in art. Prints, as well as other decorative materials, became exotic goods in the west. The culture of what is painted and the medium of the painting display interculturalism. The Kimono robe gave a sense of intimacy within the subjects. Hybrid art follows the contemporary art movement from centuries ago. The term refers to the combination, or blend, of two different forms of art. This could mean the blurring of cultural, artistic, and traditional boundaries. The development of these combinations creates new artistic concepts and documentation of cultural influences. Those of the west may have underrated the simplicity of Japanese art. The adoption of western style painting gave those of the east the chance to prove they can be just as talented. Wisdom, Impression, Sentiment by Chi Kan Jo is an example of Japanese adoption of western techniques. The painting is from 1899 and made by oil on canvas. This medium defers from those of traditional Japanese such as ink and print, opening new opportunities. Nudity was not an ideal for Japanese art at the time, however it was so in the west. Citizens During The Civil War In order to look into the lives of the U.S. citizens during the Civil War I decided to look into the first week from April 12, 1861 to April 18, 1861 of the New York Times. I looked into this week of articles to see how the New York Times covered the outbreak of the war and the people s response to it. Some of the main war events covered were: call for Union to relinquish command of Fort Sumter and first shots of the war, reaction to the surrender of Fort Sumter, Lincoln s Proclamation to add seventy five thousand volunteers to the war efforts, possible attacks on Fort Pickens, and the Confederate reaction to Lincoln s Proclamation. During this week, the north was obviously nervous and scared yet felt they would win as well as confused as to why the war was happening at all. The April 12 paper included information on the confederates asking Major Anderson to surrender Fort Sumter and strategies for the defense of the fort. In the Times article The Forts in Charleston Harbor there is a sense that the union forces have positioned themselves well and the confederates have waited too long allowing the opportunity for reinforcements to arrive if needed at Fort Sumter. • 26. Midsummer Night Dream Analysis A Midsummer s Night Dream William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays. One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love is represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a comical and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous and intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and Lysander and Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love and magic throughout the play. Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over heels for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict Athenian law. In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and dominating tone to state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act spontaneously and irrationally and as a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married. This entertains the audience by adding more conflict and complication to the story. After they elope to the forest, magic becomes the force that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in irrational ways when he is put under the spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves on Helena, and how much he hates Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I will shake thee from me like a serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his hate toward Hermia and orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has fallen in love with Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion, hence! Conflict between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because of the dramatic irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in different words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone. Was Ruth, Milkman s mother, almost swallowed up by her garden plants as Milkman watched from the kitchen window?: They were smothering her, taking away her breath with their soft jagged lips. And she merely smiled and fought them off as though they were harmless butterflies (105). It really does not matter because dreams become reality and vice versa in Milkman s world. The dream of the women in Song of Solomon was to find a man or husband to take care of them. Ruth thought that by marrying a man with Macon s status, money and ownership of property, she would live the perfect fairytale life. This dream turns into a nightmare as Macon either ignores her or raises a hand to strike her. This unhappy marriage often caused Ruth to dream about

Participation In Sports Analysis Chapter I Statement of Purpose The author has had a lifetime of experience with athletics in multiple sports as an athlete, as a coach, and now as an athletic director at a high school. As an athlete that was highly competitive, his mindset was to always work hard and do whatever it took to win. About a year after all of his college eligibility has been completed his good friend took a job at a high school in San Bernardino as a water polo coach and asked him to come out to the pool to teach his boys a few things. The author took on an assistant coaching position from that point on for the next 6 years because he loved teaching the athletes what it was to not only be a competitor but to be a competitor the right way, through hard work and respecting the game. He eventually took over the program and progressed from a coach who wanted to desperately win to a coach that wanted his kids to be successful at everything they attempted to do above all else. • 35. The Dawn Of Retinal Prosthetic Devices The Dawn of Retinal Prosthetic Devices The war against human blindness has been ongoing affair since the beginning of time. Because the origin of blindness varies from case to case, there is no single remedy and limited solutions are available to the visually impaired. However, recent technological breakthroughs have allowed scientists and doctors to test out possible solutions to a particular niche in the blindness spectrum: degenerative retinal diseases. Degenerative retinal diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) attack the retina exclusively. Because of that exclusivity, the other structures in the eye are typically not compromised. Therefore, the use of a retinal implant or prosthetic device to restore functional vision is possible. While it is important to note that retinal implants are still a pioneering technology, clinical trials such as the Argus II clinical trial, and eye health care professionals alike are reporting promising results. As such, it seems likely that retinal prosthetic devices will be a game changer in the future treatment of degenerative retinal diseases since the devices can restore a form of vision to an otherwise blind patient. Oral medications are the most commonly used because of their ease of use and usually lowers the hemoglobin A1C effectively but can at times cause hypoglycemia (glucose levels falling below normal range of values). Oral medications are also mostly used for Type 2. Insulin is the method of choice in type 1 diabetes treatment plans. Insulin injections help reproduce the secretions of the pancreas. There are two types of insulin that is used, long acting and short acting. These help to better manage a person depending on meal consumption, caloric intake, and carbohydrate intake. Another way to manage type 1 is by an insulin pump. An insulin pump delivers continuous subcutaneous infusion of insulin (Lemur and Batuman 210). Only 1 insulin is used in a pump, fasting acting. • 40. The Civil Rights And Liberties Essay With all that has been examined, it is somewhat troubling to see that 21st century America today is very similar to America from the 1960 s. While it is true that Black Americans have gained civil rights and liberties, it is the current state of American society itself as well as white fright that dismisses these rights. The most infamous example of this is, of course, police shootings. Since the Trayvon Martin case, the United States seems to have exploded with more police shootings in which white police officers shoot unarmed black men. According to Mapping Police Violence, Police killed at least 102 unarmed black people in 2015, nearly twice each week (Police Violence). Indeed, America is now like the 1950 s because while Black Americans are now free to vote, walk in public, and partake in public programs of U.S. society, certain institutions still attempt to suppress their rights. This attempting at suppression of Black civil rights, moreover, can be attributed to white fright. The violent reaction to more Black Americans in the public sector schools, entertainment, politics, etc. can be said to be a consequence of white fright. Generally speaking, white fright, may be defined as the fear of white, working middle classmen whose liberties would be replaced by the liberties of some other. This other, may be Black Americans, Asian Americans, immigrants, and anyone else who does not fulfill the historical, ideological definition of white man since the Civil War ... Roosevelt And Taft Administrations Throughout the early 1900s the Marine Corps was becoming acquainted with the island of Hispaniola that was split between two nations, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Both nations had a political tradition that dictated office holding as a political right and economic requirement for the political class known as the elite and the caudillos. Consequently, both governments acquired a considerable amount of debt during this time period in order to sustain the habits of this tradition. The United States developed an active interest in Hispaniola following the War with Spain and the construction of the Panama Canal. The Roosevelt and Taft administrations were primarily focused with the traditional tasks of protecting American lives and property. However, the US government shifted its focus to economic and strategic concerns as the State and Navy Departments engaged in gunboat diplomacy, a foreign policy that is supported by the use or threat of military force. Among these concerns was European intervention and establishing bases throughout the Caribbean. The US would have to protect Haiti and the Dominican Republic simultaneously by denying European activity in the American sphere of interest and to preserve foreign investments for both the United States and Hispaniola.
