Writing Like Me
Writing is a no. I do not like writing and it does not like me. The only good work we can do together is
outside of school. When I attempt it in school, I forget words, how to spell them, and how to phrase
them. It s like being in Kindergarten again or learning a new language. Me and writing are like,
Zordon and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, if you re into that. Or Batman and Joker since they
re more well known. The point is that we are enemies in constant battle with each other. An extremely
boring and drawn out battle.
If I wanted to bring up any experience I ve had with writing, they would all be leaning to the negative
side. That s if I can remember one long enough to fill a paragraph. For instance, I could bring up the
special group I got put in first grade. It wasn t specifically for writing, but it had writing involved. Or I
could bring up the time I gave the best written speech about penguins by a second grader. The paper
wasn t up to the teacher s standards in the end and the grade wasn t too good. Two weeks of my
constant hard work to get a letter that lowered my self esteem. ... Show more content on

It was third grade and I was able to make a sandwich with my words. It was simple phrases like take
out a loaf of bread and spread the peanut butter that brought peace to the writing process. I would put
transition words in front of my phrases and somehow i created a recipe. Afterwards I brought my
finished paper up to the teacher and she made me a sandwich off of what I wrote. The final product
was real food. I got to eat!!! The amount of joy that came to me was unseen by myself before that
moment. And it was because of writing. Then there were the less fortunate people who weren t as
lucky and ended up with a jar of jelly on a slice of bread. I felt like hot stuff. The next year would end
me and writings happy, new

Reflections on Privatization and Criminal Justice Essays
Reflections on Privatization and Criminal Justice
Thank you very much for the welcome, and for giving my talk. When the Fraser Institute called me
last year, they rang up and said they were having a conference and we would like to invite you, and I
thought I think you have the wrong person. Basically, everybody else there, except myself and one
person from Nova Scotia, were in favour of privatization and very strongly in favour of it, especially
with respect to prisons. It was actually very educational and interesting to engage in that debate. First
of all I would like to thank you very much for the invitation and to wish you all the best with your new
programme. I am glad that you have asked me to speak about privatization and criminal ... Show more

So on the one hand we are surrounded by the phenomenon and on the other hand we don t know as
much about it as we should. Even my own work, I might add, privatization is more or less a tangent
for me as I do other areas of research. I think it is indication that very few people in Canada,
criminologists, are systematically focussing on this but I keep getting roped back into this. I just wish I
had three lives at once so that I could pursue it the way I really want to. Privatization is an area that
really needs attention, and lets hope that students here at St. Thomas are going to take this up. Let me
just mention one or two topics that need attention. Many people talk about privatization in criminal
justice, including myself, mention that it is likely that private companies will try and influence
criminal justice policy in various places. Yet when you look for the empirical support for this there is
very little factual information there. Or we talk a bit about the decline of the military in industrial
conflicts, the end of the Cold War, and new markets opening up for these companies internationally
and we see some of the companies moving from the United States into Britain, Australia and now also
Canada, and we hear things about them moving into Latin American countries and East European
countries, but again this international dimension is one that there has been very little systematic
research on. So the whole area is just begging for

In that same year, she lost a very close friend due to heroin overdose; her beloved cat died because a

She became so timid in the following years, always keeping a low profile. That was she began to write

A Study On The Birth Of Weight Of 4.2kgs I Essay
With knowledge of her history and awareness of her current pregnancy plotting on the 60th centile and
estimated birth weight of 4.2kgs I assured I tried to reassure and normalise as best to my abilities. I did
not engage in conversations between the midwife who was doubting her ability to birth her second
baby because of the increased difference in weight, instead I focused on ensuring I was not developing
opinions or expectations but assuring I was prepared to anticipate any complications because of her
history. I was always aware of the language I used with Lousie and ensured I did not make passing
comments such as he is big baby that may hold a negative connotations and elicit anxiety or fares
towards her birth. I feel that is unprofessional and can easily destroy the mutual trust I was developing
with Lousie. This was particularly difficult when doing her fundal height measurements as she was
measuring above her gestation beyond the normal predicaments. Regardless I communicated my
findings supported by my LMC midwives in a professional manner explaining how she was plotting
within her normal growth curve by her scans and that her baby was a perfect size for her. I was being
truthful and honest in recognition of the trust I needed to form with her and in acknowledgement of
her right to be fully informed. Lousie was an induction at 41weeks and three days, her birth was
identical to her first resulting in a ventouse delivery after slow progression in her second

Myth Functions As A Source Of Expression In Our Lives,
Myth functions as a source of expression in our lives, whether it be value, worldview or even how our
very own gender roles are impacted. Myth can allow particular behavior in response to how we
perceive and deal with the myth itself. If we accept the myth, we could potentially use it to cope with
life in general. Though fiction, myth gives our lives this sense of an exterior, or hidden human life that
is capable of giving our lives more meaning. Often times, and in the case for this paper, a sense of
feminism, the symbolism of the woman warrior speaks as the theme of myth.
To first compare this sense of myth into the reality of our daily lives, I d like to first look at Joseph
Campbell s theory in which signififies this expression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or perhaps, consider the passage here, where Campbell makes it aware that from our dreams, we can
begin to learn about ourselves, For example, you may be worried about whether you are going to pass
an exam. Then you have a dream of some kind of failure, and you find that failure will be associated
with many other failures in your life. They are all piled up together there. Freud says even the most
fully expounded dream is not really fully expounded. The dream is an inexhaustible source of spiritual
information about yourself. Now the level of dream of will I pass the exam? or Should I marry this
girl? that is purely personal. But, on another level, the problem f passing an exam is not simply a
personal problem. Everyone has to pass a threshold of some kind. That is an archetypal thing. So there
is a basic mythological theme there even though it is a personal dream. These two levels the personal
aspect and then the big general problem of which the person s problem is a local example are found in
all cultures. For example, everyone has the problem of facing death. This is a standard mystery. From
this passage, Campbell gets a bit technical and personal on a different level than we would suggest
when we think of mythology. But I enjoy his perspective, how we are so intertwined with our dreams
and how our memories can identify us in such a way that we are thrown off of reality.

Juvenile Law Breakers In The Court Of Law Essay
There exist composite and acute issues that are experienced by the American Jurisprudence in the
magnitude to which youthful records are used to pass verdict upon grown up lawbreakers. There exists
considerations which defends the crimes by youths which states that the crimes are neither committed
are not with satisfactory capability, hence no adequate justice to judge them with the transgressions
during adulthood (Sanborn 1997).
Submitting juvenile files into Federal Court sentencing can result to either an extended sentence or
death penalty judgment increased. The policy was assed to ensure that juvenile criminal records are
not used as part and parcel of adult s sentence in court. This is justified by the fact that juvenile courts
were aimed to deal with crooks with compassion and are also less significance ... Show more content

There exist conditions set by the U.S ultimate court to govern on the policy. For almost seven decades
now, trials in juvenile courts only gratify basic essential fairness. The arbitrated law breakers are not
judged according to the constitution. The 14th Alteration clause necessitates much less in the way
human rights than is assured under the bill of rights in the criminal law court. (Sanborn 1997).
Allowing use of juvenile records in the court of law is not justified and should not be used to judge
adult criminals. Detecting behavioral shifts from juvenile to adult s court system is complicated due to
the following reasons:
i. It is evident that violent behaviors varies over the age distribution (Handler, Joel 1965). Crime rates
classically upsurge during the teenage years, with tailing of property crime at the late teens and then
the violent crimes subsides somewhat later. Hence, it s really unfair to arbitrate an adult criminal due
to how they behaved during their teenage

Eliminating Wildcat Class
Wildcat class is a short period that is used mostly by kids to relax or socialize. Principal Ramsey is
considering eliminating the period. Eliminating Wildcat Class would be beneficial to the students at
West Ridge Middle School. First, it would allow for more instructional time, and it would benefit the
student body s safety.
More instructional time would allow the students a larger understanding of the topic. Even though, it
only adds four minutes to each class, when combining many days worth of extra time, it adds up to a
exceptional amount of instructional time. In many students classes, the teacher is unable to finish
explaining the lesson. If four minutes were to be added, the class would be able to learn and move on
to another topic. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Ramsey has stated that: Most students seem to socialize or play on their iPads... If a student uses
Wildcat Class to complete some of their homework, students could just spend an extra fifteen minutes
working at home. Many teachers allow students to work on their homework around the end of a
period, so adding four minutes to each class would also allow for a student to work on homework. The
school does not even assign a large amount of homework; the largest workload I have heard a student
given was one or two hours. Another person may argue that students often hurry to their method of
transportation after 7th period, often forgetting their assigned homework. The students that travel
home via bus would hurry because they are afraid that the bus would leave them behind; that would be
easily remedied. If students did not hurry, the buses would be obligated to wait for the rest of the
students that traveled by bus. If a student had forgotten their homework, then the student could go to
school earlier in the morning to finish the work, or they could check the teacher s website to find their
assignment, as many of the teachers have began posting

Animal Experimentation
The British did not only accept animal experimentation but they also increased the use of genetically
modified mice in carrying out such tests. On July 27th official statistics showed that, for the first time,
the use of genetically modified animals has outstripped that of conventional creatures and hardly
anyone flinched knowing that (Britain: Tweaking the Experiments; Animal Testing). Imagine the
world without the essential vaccines that are used to promote healthy humans, but that is the world
without animal experimentations. The lack of animal experimentations is the lack of vaccines which
would cause many illnesses that would also lead to losing countless numbers of lives. In addition,
society has been more dependable upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Economist said the ability to breed genetically modified mice that can be used to study the genetic
basis of diseases including caner, Parkinson s and Alzheimer s has boosted the total number of
experiments almost every year (Britain: Tweaking the Experiments; Animal Testing). This shows that
with the number of experiments increasing the society should have more information on how to solve
the quest in curing these diseases or solution on illnesses. Also having experiments results could help
resolve other illnesses or diseases when the society comes across to a new disease or illness. Maybe
scientists and researcher would not need to more experiments on animals because they could go back
to the results that they already have in hands. Scientists and researcher should always have these in
records. In the Times in London, Devlin said Testing on animals has been involved in almost every
medical treatment that is available today antibiotics, insulin, cancer drugs, heart surgery and organ
transplantation (Devlin). Most medical treatments would not exist today if society did not exercise the
use of animal testing. Animal testing has brought society this far within the medical industry. If
society did not use animals for testing, society would not be anywhere close in the medical industry as
society is as of now. Thinking back now, what would happen if the society never used animals for
research or as test subjects, how many people would be

What Are Ethical Dilemma
TYPES OF ETHICAL DILEMMAS This concept was taken from module 7 ethical dilemmas , sub
topic 1 understanding ethical dilemmas . Ethical dilemmas are situations in which there is a choice to
be made between two options, both of which are morally correct but other options are in conflict.
Choosing one of the option will result in transgressing against the other. Ethical dilemmas are also
known as moral dilemmas and it should be known that neither of the choices which presents itself in
this situation can resolve the situation in an ethically acceptable way. Nurses are faced with ethical
dilemmas daily in different areas of practice. The bad thing about such situations are that whatever

In these dilemmas, research based knowledge in nursing practice is contrasted to beliefs gained from
such things as religious beliefs. For example, what should a nurse do when a patient is admitted to the
hospital that desperately needs a transfusion to live but has the belief that transfusions are
unacceptable? The nurse knows this patient will die without the transfusion. How does that nurse
empathize with the patient s family who supports the family member s choice and still be supportive
of the patient s and family s right to this decision? There are also dilemma of confidentiality where
you are confused as to keep patient s information private and risk causing harm to others or disclose
patient s information and save the lives of others. There are also dilemma of non maleficence which
involves avoiding harm and also the dilemma of fidelity which involves faithfulness and honoring
promises made to patients even when you have lots of other patients to attend to and keeping the
promise seems impossible. PERSONAL

Jetblue Is A Low Cost, High Service Airline
JetBlue operates as a low cost, high service airline. JetBlue (JBLU) revenues have increased by at
least 5% every year for the past decade. This continual growth in revenues coupled with a growth in
net income has allowed JBLU stock price to grow rapidly in the last three years. JBLU s operating
margin stands at 7.9%, the highest in the US airline industry. JBLU began offering its Even More
spacious seating arrangements on all flights and MINT service on particular flights in 2014. Revenues
from these services have caused JetBlue to have its highest ever net income in 2014. JBLU stock has
outperformed both the industry average and the S P 500 in the last year with a shocking 185% growth
rate YTD. Legacy airline carriers lag far behind this growth rate in revenue and stock price. JetBlue
has added value through its high profit margins and stellar financial performance in the past decade.
JBLU currently trades around $26 a share. Its market cap stands at $8.2 billion, making it the fifth
largest airline in the US. JBLU has experienced positive growth for the past three years. JBLU also
faces some difficulties because of its rapid growth rate. JBLU holds a P/S ratio of 1.9 against the
industry average of .8. A high P/S suggests the stock may be overvalued. JBLU generated $912

sponsorship has been perhaps the most striking development in marketing communications over the
last two decades . As the need and competition for sponsorship has grown and developed, so too has to
the need to compete for and secure sponsorship rights (Hoek and Gendall 2002). This increase in

One of the most talked about and well known ambush marketing scenarios took place at the Sydney

aligned themselves closely with numerous Olympic Athletes including Susie O Neill, Cathy Freeman
and Ian Thorpe. Three of the most talk about members of the team. Qantas developed advertisement
campaigns based around these athletes and their lead up to the Olympic Games. They also ran
Olympic Sales slashing prices for flights to and from Sydney throughout the Olympic Game period. It
was research conducted by Roy Morgan Research that found that 42% of Australians believed Qantas
to be the official airline sponsor compared to that of 15% for Ansett. Although a number of
advertisements had in the fine print that they were not the official sponsor, Qantas strategically geared
their advertisements to detract from Ansett and align that connection with themselves. Prior to the
2000 Olympics, Qantas rebranded their image and developed the tag line the Spirit of Austraila which
was reminiscent of the Sydney Olympics tagline Share the Spirit . Share the Spirit was a successful
tag line for Qantas and ensured they solidified their name in the Olympic era. Due to its nature of not

2 of the 25 warehouses containing the asbestos reside in states that do not have laws in place requiring
the special handling and disposal of the asbestos when the building is demolished or otherwise
significantly renovated. However, LOI does have a legally binding contract to sell the warehouses in
six months to a third party. The purchase/sales contract contains a standard provision allowing the
buyer to require LOI to remove the asbestos prior to the date of the sale. LOI has previously sold
warehouses to this same third party based on purchase/sales contracts containing similar provisions
related to the removal of asbestos. In each of those transactions, the third party has never enforced the

LOI believes that there is a 90% probability that the third party will not enforce the provision in the

LOI will be required to remove the asbestos, no asset retirement obligation needs to be recognized. At
worst, there is not sufficient information (based on ASC 410 2025 10) to determine the fair value of
the asset retirement obligation as it is currently uncertain as to whether LOI will be required to remove

Personal Injury Claims
Mistakes To Avoid Making When Settling A Personal Injury
Before your personal injury claim goes to trial, it is typically to attempt to settle the case outside of
court. While settling will save you from having to pay the costs associated with going to court, it s
possible that you could get a settlement that is lower than what you deserve. Avoid making these
common mistakes when settling a personal injury claim.
Making Recorded Statements To An Insurance Adjuster
There may be a time when settling your case that an insurance adjuster says they are unable to move
your claim forward without giving them a statement on the record. You should avoid doing this, as it is
just a technique that the responsible party s legal team will use to try to use ... Show more content on

Chances are that this is not the absolute last offer you will receive, and it is just a way to pressure you
into taking it.
Settling a personal injury case involves a lot of back and forth dialogue. You can always counter their
offer with an offer of your own.
Asking For Too Much Money
While you do not want to make the mistake of asking for not enough money, be careful of asking for
too much as well. It demonstrates that you do not understand the value of the injury claim, and may
lead to being taken advantage of.
Work with a lawyer to determine an appropriate amount to ask for in your initial demand letter. The
amount that you request will be accepted or it will go down during negotiations, but chances are it will
never go higher than what you initially asked for.
Not Knowing The Extent of Your Injuries
The most difficult part of a personal injury claim is estimating the costs of your injuries in the future.
Your settlement amount will factor in additional medical costs related to your injury that have not yet
been billed. Your recovery may take longer than expected, or you can have complications. It s
important to not settle your case until you know how extensive your injuries are. It may be tempting to
settle quickly, but it could cost you money down the

Essay on Narrative Style and Structure of James and the...
Narrative Style and Structure of James and the Giant Peach
The books that Roald Dahl has written have very interesting narrative styles. In the story James and
the Giant Peach, Dahl uses vivid imagination. He uses many imaginary situations but yet at the same
time encompasses enough realistic situations that the reader can still relate to it. In James and the
Giant Peach, it starts out introducing a boy named James Henry Trotter who lives with his loving
mother and father. The narrator of the book tells us, the readers, that James and his family s dream is
to sail to New York City and climb all the way to the top of the Empire State Building. This
introduction makes us think that this story is realistic, because the ... Show more content on

These bugs carry on many different human like characteristics, which help make Dahl s imaginative
story seem somewhat realistic. All of these bugs talk to James about how they hate life on the hill and
a bug eats away the stem of the peach and they go rolling down the hill. Throughout the story the
peach, with all of the characters inside, is on a dangerous adventure. After going through oceans and
winds, the peach lands them on the top of the Empire State Building. The bugs help capture the evil
aunts and they live happily together.
This story is told in the third person point of view, which helps the reader understand the whole story
and not just one character s side. If the story was told by just one character s point of view, the story
could be similar but one would only see the view of that character. By Dahl using third person point of
view, this allows the readers to see each characters views and thoughts of what is happening in the
story.
Also, throughout the book Dahl has the narrator asking many questions to make the reader imagine
what is going to happen next. Usually the question comes toward the end of a page so the reader has to
wonder or is caught in suspense until the page is flipped. This gives the reader a chance to use their
imagination and guess what happens next. I believe this sort of writing helps Dahl pull his

ideology and propaganda would be repeated in future concentration camps following its appearance at
Dachau. The camp was completely secluded from any social, real world interactions, and inside its
confined borders the only known aspects of life were agony, suffering, death, and above all else, work.
Dachau intended for obedient and submissive labor to be implemented into the heads of the prisoners
through a persistent system of propaganda. Dachau was originally an abandoned ammunitions factory,
and for this reason it was a targeted location to set up operations (Encyclopedia of the Holocaust 341).
Furthermore, this armaments industry quickly became vital to the operation of the Nazi army, seeing
that the ammunition and weapons the prisoners could produce was unprecedented. The cost of labor
was also exceptionally low as the only thing needed to be paid for was the prisoner s feeble rations.
Apart from weapons and ammunitions manufacturing, other labor consisted of the management of the
camp which was completely prisoner run. Workshops were established throughout the camp, and
prisoners worked as required by the supervising Schutzstaffel, or SS police organization
(Encyclopedia of the Holocaust 341). However workshops and armaments were among the easier type

Iran s Iran Nuclear Program And Us Israel Relationship
Introduction:
Iran s clerical regime with a highly complicated government structure is an emergent economy in the
Middle East. While the historical hostility between the countries, is more than the Iran s nuclear
program, but now the center of debates are Iran s nuclear program and US Israel relationship. The
Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has reduced tensions between both countries. However,
Israel and Saudi Arabia, two allies of the US and adversaries of Iran has opposed the agreement. Iran
is till considered a threat to the US national interest and security. The risks cannot be eliminated only
by military means, but it requires a comprehensive strategy. It is important to reduce the capability of
Iran and change its intention. The best possible way to do this is supporting a gradual political
transition of power from an extremist religious leader to the Iranian nation.

Comparing Wanderer, The Wife s Lament And The Seafarer
Exile is commonly seen in Anglo Saxon literature, specifically the poems: The Wanderer, The Wife s
Lament, and The Seafarer. All three poems deal with the idea of losing something and missing the
something so much it pains them to think about it. Although in many cases, the person experiencing
exile has nothing to do but think about their exile. In The Wanderer, the speaker has lost all of his
kinsman over time. He feels exiled by his misery, grievous disasters, and death of kin and he is weary
of exile. It is physically straining for him to feel this way everyday, but he cannot do anything about it.
He recounts how some of his companion s died saying one a bird bore over the billowing sea; one the
grey wolf slew; one a grieving earl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is sent to live underneath an oak tree in the middle of the woods and must bear her husband s
anger everyday. In the first stanza, the woman says the pain she feels now is much more painful than
anything else she has felt in her life. I a woman tell what griefs I had since I grew up new or old never
more than now. This is the woman s form of exile. Often we vowed that but death alone would part us
two naught else. When her and her husband first got married she believed they would never be parted,
but circumstances got in the way. Her husband s kinsman plotted to separate them and succeeded. She
misses not only her loved one, but also her young naivety about love. I grieved each dawn wondered
where my lord my first on Earth might be. She feels thrown away without her love beside her and
remembers each morning at dawn. She says her old friends are sleeping soundly in their beds and she
is walking by herself alone through these earth halls. She describes the place she is exiled to as dark
and overgrown from lack of care, which can be used to describe how she feels as well. She ends the
lyric by wishing her husband to feel the same pain she feels everyday. He remembers too often a

Metis Struggle for Self Identification Essay
Metis Struggle for Self Identification
One of the most contentious issues in Canada s history is that of the Metis. Some people feel this
unique group of people does not deserve any sort of recognition, whereas others believe their unique
history and culture is something to be recognized and cherished. The history of the Metis people is
filled with struggle; not only struggles against other powers, but also a struggle for self identification.
Despite strong opposition, the Metis people of Canada have matured as a political force and have
taken great strides towards being recognized as a unique people. The word Metis is a French word that

The most sought after reason for the envy was because of the jobs they were offered. If they were able
to read and write, they were in huge demand at one of the trading companies. Some would follow in
their fathers footsteps and become trappers and traders, a few Metis would even become chiefs of
Indian tribes , because of their knowledge of the white man. The circumstances that existed at this
time encouraged the Metis people to begin to formulate their own identity. In the early parts of the
17th century, France created the Voyageur system . Voyageurs were labourers who would transport
trade goods between First Nations peoples and the French trading posts . They functioned under very
strict French and Church law. Eventually, several European and Metis individuals and groups began to
trade without the French state s approval. These traders were called couriers de bois and were vilified
by both France and the Church . Since the couriers de bois acted as free agents, France, and later
England, could not profit from transactions made by the couriers. To counteract the loss in potential
revenue, strict measures were created to prevent the couriers de bois from doing any business. These
strict measures were called the conge system, this was a licensing system where by not more than
seventy five traders would go to the west each year . Many traders were arrested, and often, were
saved only because of strong ties

Christopher Booker Plot Types
Most books you read fall into the list of plot types that Christopher Booker created. Each plot type is a
representation of different books that fall under that category that essentially tell of the same story.
The author of the book, Dennis Dutton, described how the idea of plot came about, how Aristotle and
other writers believed there were a finite number of plots for fictions. The dictionary definition of plot
reads a plan or main story. Booker s plot types include Overcoming the Monster, Rags to Riches,
Quest, Voyage and Return, Comedy, Tragedy, Rebirth, Rebellion, and Mystery. These plot types are
the basis of all good stories, the ones that have motivation embedded in the story.
Motivations are what create and drive the plot. In each plot type, certain motivations cause characters
to act and this motivation is the basis of a story. Booker uses Carl Jung s theory of archetypes and
symbols to support his project. Christopher Booker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collins has said that the inspiration of this novel came from the Greek myth of Theseus and the
Minotaur, a story she read when she was young. In the Greek myth, Queen Pasiphae gave birth to the
Minotaur, a creature, half man, and half bull. King Minos was embarrassed, but did not want to kill
the monster, so he hid the Minotaur in the Labyrinth at his palace. When his son participated in the
Panathenaic Games in Athens and was killed by the bull, Minos was infuriated and demanded the king
of Athens to send seven men and seven women each year to the Minotaur. This reflects the storyline of
The Hunger Games where children were sent off to be killed and the parents were helpless to do
anything about it. In the myth, there comes one character, Theseus, who fights the odds stacked up
against him and defeats the oppressor, the Minotaur. Collins describes Katniss as the futuristic
Theseus. Through this motivation, this novel was then created to describe human nature when it is

Repeated play of violent video games causes children learn thought patterns that will stick with them
and influence their behaviours as they grow up. Children start to think more aggressively and when
provoked in a situation, they can react to it much like they do when playing a video game. Douglas
Gentile said. With violent games you practice being vigilant for enemies, practice thinking that it s
acceptable to respond aggressively to provocation, and practice becoming desensitized to the
consequences of violence. Repeated practice of aggressive ways of thinking can drive the long term
effect of violent games on aggression. (Iowa State University)
Violent video games model physical aggression. They also reward players for being alert to hostile
intentions and for using aggressive behavior to solve conflicts. Practicing such aggressive thinking in
these games improves the ability of the players to think aggressively. In turn, this habitual aggressive
thinking increases their aggressiveness in real life. (Anderson,

Summary Of Hester Prynne By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Chapter 2 3: Hester Prynne is a young woman who was put in jail for the crime of adultery. In the first
introduction Hester is perceived as someone who does not care what other people think of her and will
stare down the barrel of a gun. The author, Nathaniel Hawthorne, compares Hester to her babe by
showing how they are both shunned by the people viewing them. Hawthorne contrats them when
Hester stands upon the scaffold with her head held high, while her babe cries out. As Hester walks out
of her prison and stands upon the scaffold for viewing and public shame, the holier than though
women gossip about Hester s sin and shames her for her sins. The men view Hester the same way, a
sinner that should be punished and shamed.
Chapter 4 5: Hester Prynne s husband reveals himself as a doctor and offers to help her and her babe.
Her husband says that he will not hurt her adulterous partner and will spare her as well and not act as
if his wife has just cheated on him. Although he has given Hester his word, Hester is still terrified by
his words. Thy acts are like mercy, said Hester, bewildered and appalled. But thy words interpret thee
as a terror! (44). Hester s husband who named himself Roger Chillingworth, he states that he tricked
Hester into a marriage where she did not love her husband and therefore he had wronged her first.

The Effect Of Hatshepsut On The Metropolitan Museum Of...
In 1923, excavators from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, led by Herbert E. Winlock (Museum
Egyptologist), found fragments of statues belonging to the time of Hatshepsut when they began
clearing the area in front of the temples of Hatshepsut and Mentuhotep II. As a result further
excavations of this area were undertaken by the Metropolitan Museum during the seasons of 1926 27,
1927 28, and 1928 29. These excavations were predominantly carried out in two important locations: a
depression southeast of Deir el Bahri temple (also called the Hatshepsut Hole ) and a quarry northeast
of the temple. [1] The Metropolitan Museum crew started to reassemble these fragments and by 1931
the reconstructions were complete and offered a rather large collection of statues and objects from
Hatshepsut s temple. More statues have survived of Hatshepsut than any other Egyptian Pharaoh.
Ironically, this was due to the destruction of these statues a mere twenty years after they were created.
Hatshepsut ascended to the Egyptian throne in 1473 B.C and co ruled with her stepson and nephew,
Thutmose III. While Hatshepsut was not first woman in Egypt to be a king, she was nonetheless, the
most important in terms of the influence of her reign on the culture of ancient Egypt. During her reign
as Pharaoh there was an explosion of artistic creativity, which can be seen clearly in the reconstruction
of her temple at Deir el Bahri in western Thebes. Deir el Bahri is considered to be one of the great

Social Media And Its Impact On Society Essay
Take a minute to think about the world today. Everyone, surrounded by different social media sites:
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and more, is being influenced one way or another and some
without even realizing it. Throughout my lifetime I have seen a gradual increase in the amount of
social media sites, the use of magazines, and the audiences of television shows and movies. All are
experiencing a steady growth that is inflicting a negative outcome on society. With so many different
influences from one form of media to the next, it is difficult to control what sites are posting as well as
realizing what they are capable of doing to the human race, specifically to all the women in today s
society. From newspapers, magazines, and electronics, society surrounds itself in a web of negativity
and traps the human mind into thinking this is the way we are supposed to live. In 1928, the first
television broadcast came out. Then in 1991, the world wide population was exposed to the newest
and greatest invention of mankind, the internet (The Next Web). Newspapers and magazines are the
oldest forms of media yet are still prevalent in the world today. In history, newspapers were used
solely to inform readers on what important news was occurring in the world during that time as well
as give information about job openings, businesses and weather. Magazines were not as popular but
still were used by many over the years. As time went on, there was a gradual increase in the usage

Second Letter To Corinthians
2 CORINTHIANS 8 AND 9: CHRISTIAN GIVING
In chapters eight and nine of the second letter to the Corinthians, Paul wrote principles and
instructions in giving that a Christian should live by and recognize. In this paper, a few will be studied
and analyzed through the account of Paul s involvement in the Jerusalem collection to get a better
understanding of them, but most importantly to see how God wants Christians to apply these to their
lives. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a

As Christians it is required that faith is proved by works. A Christian that believes in the Savior of the
world but does not obey Him is worthless. James wrote What does it profit, my brethren, if someone
says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and
destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled, but you do
not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus, also faith by itself,
if it does not have works, is dead (James 2:15 17). Later in verse nineteen, James rebukes that even
demons believe in the Lord. Nevertheless, a Christian proves his worth, proves His love for the Lord
by doing His will, and His will is that Christians not only help each other, Therefore, as we have
opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. (Galatians
6:10). Jesus Christ also requires Christians to be examples of working men, women, and families to
the world, You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden (Matthew 5:14).

Analysis Of The Movie Glory
Why is the movie called Glory? Is it really glory? I strongly believe not only is the movie glory itself,
but the characters represent the idea of glory throughout the movie as well. Glory is a high rank of
honor, which involves tireless amounts of work to get to. Not only did the characters in the movie
represent the movie well, but portrayed the Civil War in a proud manner as well. There are many
characters that represent glory, but there are three that stand out among the rest. Those characters are
Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, Corporal Thomas Searles, and Sergeant Major John Rawlins. The first
character who I believe represented Glory in the movie is Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. When Shaw
was asked to lead these inexperienced men, he knew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first battle, he was shot in the leg. Colonel Shaw was going to send him back to Boston for care,
but refused to leave his fellow soldiers and continue to fight for his men. That shows you how much
he matured throughout the movie. As soon as Colonel Shaw was shot down in the Battle at Fort
Wagner, he took the flag and gave one of the best fights in the Battle of Fort Wagner. As he was shot
down in that battle, which eventually lead to his death, his fellow soldiers knew they had lost a key
part of their force. With that said, Corporal Thomas Searles might have only started out as a typical
inexperienced soldier, but ended up being one of the most profound soldiers in the force, which proves
he represents glory in the movie. The final character in Glory who I believe showed much glory is
Private Trip. Originally from Tennessee, Trip was determined to fight anyone he could, and of course,
win. Occasionally, he would start fights with many of the white soldiers because they would say the
54th never really doesn t have the opportunity to fight. That led to some trouble, but what also led him
to trouble was stirring up trouble with Corporal Searles. He also was disappointed about the lower
wages, something that Colonel Shaw was admired for. Throughout the movie, there were many times
where the leaders thought he should be punished, but he proved that wasn t necessary. Although it

Probable Cause In Criminal Investigation
According to Criminal Law and Procedure, probable cause is the least amount of evidence that is
necessary to determine criminality in regards to a search, arrest, or seizure to be proper under the
Fourth Amendment (Hall, 2015). Every case differs in how probable cause is articulated as well as the
basics of the case in terms of who, what, when, where, how, and why. In all situations, it is more than
mere suspicion and less than standard required to prove a defendant guilty at trial (beyond a
reasonable doubt) , (Hall, 2015, p. 399). Furthermore, probable cause is simply the facts of a case that
represents criminality and presented by the law enforcement officer to a judge or magistrate, to

According to Overview of Criminal Procedure, there are three sources of establishing probable cause,
observation, physical evidence, and witness statements (Bethel, 2015). Observation and profiling are
two terms that are easily misinterpreted by people in society who lack knowledge of determining a
crime. Based on an officer s experience, the officer can determine if a crime is likely to occur by
observing certain key elements a suspect or suspects display to the officer, because the officer has
observed the same principles applied in previous crimes that resulted in a crime. Observation of a
suspect is surveilling the suspect for any criminal aspects that are determined to be criminal. The
physical evidence speaks for itself as physical evidence may arise during the course of surveillance
and solidify the officer s determination that a crime is present. Statements by witnesses or anonymous
tips can assist in establishing probable cause and sometimes can be the only probable cause an officer
can establish before further investigating a potential crime (Bethel,

Dracula By Bram Stoker
The legend of the vampire in history is boundlessly frightening to all and fascinating to people world
wide. Vampires are creatures of the night who live by feeding on the blood of human beings. Stories
of vampire creatures have been told around the world from nearly the beginning of time itself. The
way they look, their tendencies, purposes, and other characteristics of vampires, appear to differ based
on the time period in which the vampire folklore originated or what culture it derived from. These
cultures such as the Mesopotamians, Hebrews, Ancient Greeks, and the Romans all have various
folklores that explain how the vampire came to be. However, the folklore for the creature we know
currently as the vampire originates from the early 18th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originating its characteristics in folklore where is it often seen as grotesque, the vampire in modern
day is seen to be more attractive, sexual, and, in some ways, not as fearful. Various types of literature
containing these monsters have been the spotlight and main influence of how the world views them
today. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, the literature takes a turn for the vampire that lets the world view it
as more of civil being. Often people in today s society due to this novel think of fangs, a pointy nose,
wearing a cape, and one not having a reflection when thinking of a vampire. Throughout this book
Stoker represents the uneasiness of society at the time, including capitalist greed, homosexuality, as
well as female sexuality. In the beginning of the novel, Johnathon Harker arrives at the castle of The
Count and when first introduced he is in confusion of who he is actually meeting. In the line, What
manner of man is this, or what manner of creature is it in the semblance of man? (Stoker chp.3,p.48),
Stoker is essentially representing the fear of humanity s animal nature and not having that sense of
control over them. The Count describes himself as a hunter of sorts and with that comes the thirst for
blood. With vampires today, the main thing people think of is most likely how they replenish
themselves with blood, as sometimes especially within folklore this was not always a characteristic of
the monster. Throughout the novel there are multiple instances in which The Count as well as the
women vampires are tempted to snag a bite of Harker s neck. (FIND QUOTE). Stoker s Dracula also
expresses the fear of female sexuality in a way that past folklores did not. The women in this novel are
types of vampires that were not common in past centuries, where they now are so sexualized and tend
to lore their prey in by being the sexual aggressor and making, Johnathon

Jump Ship To Freedom Book Report
What is a human life worth? To some it s priceless, and to others nothing at all. As humans we tend
not to think about it and just live, it s what we do. In the past however, it was a different story, the
world is completely different now. Life used to be much harder than it currently is, especially for
African Americans. In the book Jump Ship to Freedom by authors Christopher Collier and James
Lincoln Collier, you get a deep look into the life of an African American slave child named Daniel
Arabus. Daniel wishes to complete his father s goal of buying himself and his mother s freedom, so he
ends up risking his whole life for soldiers notes that could ultimately be worth absolutely nothing.
Though the events are fictionalized, this book shows the readers what life would ve been like after the
American Revolution. The story transpires in early May of 1787 on a plantation in Stratford,
Connecticut. Taking place not long after the American Revolution, the government wasn t quite set up
yet, which plays an important role in the book. The United States had not defined itself yet. Though
the country had won its war for independence, it lacked the unity and organization that it needed in

Abortion Vs Abortion In Beowulf
The Killer Within Within each individual, there is a sliver of a killer living deep inside. The most
evident of these is expressed through the action of abortion. In comparison to abortion, Grendel s
attacks in Beowulf blindsides the faultless people of Herot demolishing the town where they reside.
Grendel unremorsefully targets the helpless citizens of Herot while abortion also quarries on innocent
victims leaving emotional, physical, and psychological devastations in its wake. In comparison with
the emotional baggage that comes along with the attacks on the hall of Herot, abortion similarly
impacts the lives of Americans today. The aftermath of the attacks played out by Grendel can easily be
compared to the lasting effects an abortion can have on numerous lives. The theme of innocence is
best displayed when the author portrays Grendel coming upon sleeping citizens of Herot. As any
vicious monster does, Grendel takes advantage of the individuals who are asleep and strips the life
away from their souls. Likewise, abortion essentially commits the same crime as Grendel. However,
abortion can be delineated as the monster of the real world. To elaborate, abortion permits the legal act
of murder while tacking on distress to those around them as a result. One key difference among many
is the simple point that abortion grants permission by law to legally seize the life of a child who never
even got the chance to take a breath of fresh air. In addition, some Americans even view

Alcoholism Essay
Alcoholism
Alcoholism refers the drinking of alcohol to such a degree that major aspects of one s life are seriously
and repeatedly interfered with. These aspects include work, school, family relationships, personal
safety and health.
Alcoholism is considered a disease. It has known physical, psychological and social symptoms. An
alcoholic continues to drink even despite the destructive consequences. Alcoholism is serious and
progressive. It can be fatal if not treated. Alcoholism is a very complex disorder. An alcoholic who
stops drinking for a while is considered recovering, not cured.

Some common symptoms of alcoholism in the early stages are constant drinking for relief of personal
problems, an increase in one s tolerance for alcohol, memory lapses or blackouts while drinking, and
an urgent craving for alcohol. In the middle and late phases, dependence on alcohol causes tremors
and agitation only relievable by alcohol.
Most likely, a combination of biological, psychological, and cultural factors contribute to the
development of alcoholism in any individual.
Alcoholism often seems to run in families. Although there is no conclusive indication of the alcoholic
family member is associated, studies show that 50 to
80 percent of all alcoholics have had a close alcoholic relative. Some researchers believe that one
inherits an addiction for alcohol. Studies on animals and twins seem to support this theory. One study
suggests that a susceptibility to alcoholism may be linked to a gene on chromosome eleven.
Alcoholism may also be related to emotional problems. For example, alcoholism is sometimes
associated with a family history of maniac depression.
Some alcoholics have used alcohol medicate a depressive disorder. Alcoholics commonly drown their
depressed or anxious feelings with alcohol. Some may drink to reduce inhibitions or negative feelings.
Many alcoholics share experiences of loneliness,

Behavior Observation/Description
Last week, my friend, Maliah and I had an anatomy exam. A week prior to the exam we decided that
we would start studying and were going to meet up over the weekend in the classroom located in the
Los Cerritos dorm building in Hillside College. At 11 am. I got to the classroom and saw Maliah
already studying with her headphones in, laptop out, and flashcards around her. I asked Maliah what
she was listening to and she told me, I m listening to classical piano music . She said listening to this
helps her not get distracted, allowing her to study more efficiently and effectively. However, after a

Women in Athens Sparta
Women in Ancient Sparta amp; Athens
By: Tony Knuth
12/9/09
Historians have spent a long time attempting to establish what exactly life was like for women in
ancient Greece. Like all studies of ancient Greece, they focus primarily on the two most powerful city
states in the Hellenic world, Athens and Sparta. Since the majority of the primary documents deal with
these two cities, historians are only able to decipher a fragmentary view of what life was actually like
for the entirety of society, let alone what life was like for women specifically. Nevertheless,
researchers have dug through the chronicles of primary sources available in order to provide the most
accurate depiction of Greek women possible. Researchers generally start by ... Show more content on

In addition, CSUN Spartan women did not marry when they were of tender years, but [when] in their
full bloom and ripeness , allowing many of them to pursue their education for the same length of time
as modern students. They most likely learned cultural norms through differing types of performance
art, specifically choruses sung at festivals or during early plays, along with reading, arithmetic and
writing. The purpose of these performances by young maidens was twofold: first to entice young men
to marry, along with instilling both men and women with the idea of what a good Spartan should be.
In addition to having a great deal of freedom in education, Spartan women were also able to own land.
In his work Politics, Aristotle points out that about two fifths of the whole land are in the possession of
women . Women would generally obtain these properties through large dowries given in marriage, or
through inheritance as is evident when Aristotle laments the practice of giving large dowries saying it
would be better if there were no dowries, or if they were small or at any rate moderate . Women s
ability to become the sole proprietors of land was something relatively unheard of in the Hellenic
world, hence Aristotle s confusion and desire to reduce the amount of land held by them.
Athenian women s role was identical to that of Spartan women in respect to their importance in
reproduction. Thucydides states that Pericles encouraged procreation and saw a double

been or are currently the three greatest challenges for the United States in translating its military
power into desired political outcomes or end states? (Air War College) Additionally, the paper will
evaluate the three challenges in the context of two different conflicts. (Air War College) In today s
ever dynamic and changing strategic landscape, there are plenty of challenges facing the United
States. As one can imagine, the palate is full given the many facets and combinations in which senior
leaders make decisions as to how best to reach a desired end goal and/or political outcome.

Outliers Paradigm Analysis
A paradigm is a model used to support ideas and claims made by an author. In the book Outliers the
author Malcolm Gladwell uses many paradigms to further illustrate his findings. Throughout the book
Gladwell discusses success and the things that effect ones chance at becoming successful in life. It is
brought to our attention though Gladwell s use of paradigms that there are many small scale things
that can effect ones chances at succeeding. Success is often associated with talent, genetics, and
resources but little do people know there are many things that impact ones success. Throughout
Gladwell s text he uses many paradigms. The first paradigm that he uses is in the introduction of the
book. Gladwell begins by using a small town in Pennsylvania called Roseto. There was something
very unique about this town. A doctor named Stewart Wolfe he found that the rates of heart disease in
this little town were significantly less for those under the age of sixty five, which during the time heart
disease was a huge epidemic. Wolfe began to research the obvious things that one would believe to
have an impact on heart disease. He looked at diet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What the ten thousand hour rule states is to become professional at the task. Gladwell presents the
Beatles as one of the examples, he explains how the Beatles came to be as well as how they came to
the United States. He then goes on to tell how the Beatles not only played music for many years
before coming to the U.S but also how they played individually before becoming a band. This gave
them an advantage on their ten thousand hours. Gladwell also explained that the band played in
Hamburg, they played five or more hours a night seven days a week, they defiantly did their share to
get their hours in. many people don t think about the amount of work one puts in to become truly great

Enzymes in Pineapple
Background:
Enzymes are very efficient catalysts for biochemical reactions. They speed up reactions by providing
an alternative reaction pathway of lower activation energy. Like all catalysts, enzymes take part in the
reaction that is how they provide an alternative reaction pathway. But they do not undergo permanent
changes and so remain unchanged at the end of the reaction. They can only alter the rate of reaction,
not the position of the equilibrium. Enzymes are usually highly selective, catalyzing specific reactions
only. This specificity is due to the shapes of the enzyme molecules.

Collagen
About one quarter of all the protein in your body is collagen. It is a major structural material that
forms molecular cables to strengthen the tendons and resilient sheets that support the skin and internal
organs. Bones and teeth are made by adding mineral crystals to collagen. Collagen provides structure
to our bodies, protecting and supporting the softer tissues and connecting them with the skeleton. But,
in spite of its critical function in the body, collagen is a relatively simple protein.
Collagen from livestock animals is a familiar ingredient in cooking. Collagen is a protein, and like
most proteins, when heated, it loses all of its structure. The polymer molecule unwinds. Then, when
the denatured mass cools down, it soaks up all of the surrounding water like a sponge, forming gelatin.

Charles Manson s The Night Of The Tate Labianca Murders
Charles Manson was one of the most well known murderers that didn t actually kill anyone, instead he
had people do it for him. Helter Skelter or other known as Charles Manson brainwashed people that
are part of his family into thinking they should kill innocent people just because he told them to. Part 1
of Helter Skelter was mainly about the people involved in his family that he had created, the
detectives that were in charge of the case, and the victims that were murdered and he briefly touches
on what happened the night of August 9th, 1969. The author talks about the night of the murders and
what exactly went on the night of the Tate LaBianca murders. He also goes into depth about some of
the people that were murdered at 10050 Cielo Drive, like Jay Sebring, who was a hairstylist and
Abigail Folger who was an heiress to the Folger coffee fortune, then he talks about Leno and
Rosemary LaBianca who were the owners and founders of Wholesale Grocery Company. Part 2 of the
book was focused a lot on the girls in the Manson family even though it was titled The Killers , it even
touched on the Hinman murder that had occurred before the Tate LaBianca murders. Susan Atkins,
aka Sadie Mae Glutz was a big part in this chapter/part because she gave the detectives a starting place
for the murders. They had taken Susan to the Sybil Brand Institute in Los Angeles, where she had a
roommate there and her name was Ronnie Howard. Susan told Ronnie everything about the murders ,

the people, till every one submit himself with pieces of silver: scatter thou the people that delight in

Olive oil was in abundance and therefore the oil was not costly.
We have the luxury of electricity today. Unfortunately, she did not have any electricity.
Most homes at that time would contain several oil lamps and the inside of the home was about as dim
as a 40 watt light bulb.
Still she did not take a lax attitude towards her lost possession. She knew if she was going to find this
coin.
1. You have to stay focused. She did not allow the lighting in the house to stop her. She was not
focused on how dim the house may have been. Her mindset was to find the coin.
2. Use what you got. There is a time when you will not have all the tools you feel you need. It should
not cause you to give in. This woman did not have proper lighting, but she stayed focused and worked
diligently.
If you are going to find your way out, maybe, you will have to sweep your house clean.
The woman swept the house. She uses her broom to reach into corners and under tables, areas where
she could not see. Something you must go beyond the normal.
3. Search carefully until you find it. She did not take a lax attitude towards her lost possession. The

The Factors Of The French Resistance In World War II
The French Resistance The French Resistance was a collection of resistance groups that fought against
Nazi Germany and its puppet state of Vichy France. They were mainly comprised of men and women
who fought the Nazis through sabotage, ambushes, and hit and run tactics; disrupting power grids,
transport lines, and telecommunications. In addition to guerilla warfare, they also published
underground newspapers, collected intelligence, and helped Allied soldiers trapped behind enemy
lines to escape. Furthermore, they also played a large role in Operation Overlord (invasion of northern
France) and Operation Dragoon (invasion of southern France) by providing the Allies with locations
of Nazi fortifications and defenses. The French Resistance was extremely crucial to winning World
War II and saving the lives of Allied soldiers.
The surrender of France to the Nazis in June of 1940 was a major blow to French nationalism. Many
believed the government had let the people down by fleeing Paris and through the creation of Vichy
France, a French puppet government supported by the Nazis. The assurance by the French government
that the Maginot Line was more than strong enough to resist a Nazi attack was of course, proved false.
The Maginot Line also had a glaring weakness: there were very little fortifications bordering Belgium.
France did not want to offend its ally, so the Maginot Line stopped at the Ardennes Forest, which was
considered impenetrable. However, the Nazis bombed French

  • 2. Writing Like Me Writing is a no. I do not like writing and it does not like me. The only good work we can do together is outside of school. When I attempt it in school, I forget words, how to spell them, and how to phrase them. It s like being in Kindergarten again or learning a new language. Me and writing are like, Zordon and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, if you re into that. Or Batman and Joker since they re more well known. The point is that we are enemies in constant battle with each other. An extremely boring and drawn out battle. If I wanted to bring up any experience I ve had with writing, they would all be leaning to the negative side. That s if I can remember one long enough to fill a paragraph. For instance, I could bring up the special group I got put in first grade. It wasn t specifically for writing, but it had writing involved. Or I could bring up the time I gave the best written speech about penguins by a second grader. The paper wasn t up to the teacher s standards in the end and the grade wasn t too good. Two weeks of my constant hard work to get a letter that lowered my self esteem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was third grade and I was able to make a sandwich with my words. It was simple phrases like take out a loaf of bread and spread the peanut butter that brought peace to the writing process. I would put transition words in front of my phrases and somehow i created a recipe. Afterwards I brought my finished paper up to the teacher and she made me a sandwich off of what I wrote. The final product was real food. I got to eat!!! The amount of joy that came to me was unseen by myself before that moment. And it was because of writing. Then there were the less fortunate people who weren t as lucky and ended up with a jar of jelly on a slice of bread. I felt like hot stuff. The next year would end me and writings happy, new ... • 3. Reflections on Privatization and Criminal Justice Essays Reflections on Privatization and Criminal Justice Thank you very much for the welcome, and for giving my talk. When the Fraser Institute called me last year, they rang up and said they were having a conference and we would like to invite you, and I thought I think you have the wrong person. Basically, everybody else there, except myself and one person from Nova Scotia, were in favour of privatization and very strongly in favour of it, especially with respect to prisons. It was actually very educational and interesting to engage in that debate. First of all I would like to thank you very much for the invitation and to wish you all the best with your new programme. I am glad that you have asked me to speak about privatization and criminal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So on the one hand we are surrounded by the phenomenon and on the other hand we don t know as much about it as we should. Even my own work, I might add, privatization is more or less a tangent for me as I do other areas of research. I think it is indication that very few people in Canada, criminologists, are systematically focussing on this but I keep getting roped back into this. I just wish I had three lives at once so that I could pursue it the way I really want to. Privatization is an area that really needs attention, and lets hope that students here at St. Thomas are going to take this up. Let me just mention one or two topics that need attention. Many people talk about privatization in criminal justice, including myself, mention that it is likely that private companies will try and influence criminal justice policy in various places. Yet when you look for the empirical support for this there is very little factual information there. Or we talk a bit about the decline of the military in industrial conflicts, the end of the Cold War, and new markets opening up for these companies internationally and we see some of the companies moving from the United States into Britain, Australia and now also Canada, and we hear things about them moving into Latin American countries and East European countries, but again this international dimension is one that there has been very little systematic research on. So the whole area is just begging for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study On The Birth Of Weight Of 4.2kgs I Essay With knowledge of her history and awareness of her current pregnancy plotting on the 60th centile and estimated birth weight of 4.2kgs I assured I tried to reassure and normalise as best to my abilities. I did not engage in conversations between the midwife who was doubting her ability to birth her second baby because of the increased difference in weight, instead I focused on ensuring I was not developing opinions or expectations but assuring I was prepared to anticipate any complications because of her history. I was always aware of the language I used with Lousie and ensured I did not make passing comments such as he is big baby that may hold a negative connotations and elicit anxiety or fares towards her birth. I feel that is unprofessional and can easily destroy the mutual trust I was developing with Lousie. This was particularly difficult when doing her fundal height measurements as she was measuring above her gestation beyond the normal predicaments. Regardless I communicated my findings supported by my LMC midwives in a professional manner explaining how she was plotting within her normal growth curve by her scans and that her baby was a perfect size for her. • 6. Myth Functions As A Source Of Expression In Our Lives, Myth functions as a source of expression in our lives, whether it be value, worldview or even how our very own gender roles are impacted. Myth can allow particular behavior in response to how we perceive and deal with the myth itself. If we accept the myth, we could potentially use it to cope with life in general. Though fiction, myth gives our lives this sense of an exterior, or hidden human life that is capable of giving our lives more meaning. Often times, and in the case for this paper, a sense of feminism, the symbolism of the woman warrior speaks as the theme of myth. To first compare this sense of myth into the reality of our daily lives, I d like to first look at Joseph Campbell s theory in which signififies this expression of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or perhaps, consider the passage here, where Campbell makes it aware that from our dreams, we can begin to learn about ourselves, For example, you may be worried about whether you are going to pass an exam. Then you have a dream of some kind of failure, and you find that failure will be associated with many other failures in your life. They are all piled up together there. Freud says even the most fully expounded dream is not really fully expounded. The dream is an inexhaustible source of spiritual information about yourself. Now the level of dream of will I pass the exam? or Should I marry this girl? that is purely personal. But, on another level, the problem f passing an exam is not simply a personal problem. Everyone has to pass a threshold of some kind. That is an archetypal thing. So there is a basic mythological theme there even though it is a personal dream. These two levels the personal aspect and then the big general problem of which the person s problem is a local example are found in all cultures. For example, everyone has the problem of facing death. This is a standard mystery. From this passage, Campbell gets a bit technical and personal on a different level than we would suggest when we think of mythology. But I enjoy his perspective, how we are so intertwined with our dreams and how our memories can identify us in such a way that we are thrown off of reality. Now lending this ... Juvenile Law Breakers In The Court Of Law Essay There exist composite and acute issues that are experienced by the American Jurisprudence in the magnitude to which youthful records are used to pass verdict upon grown up lawbreakers. There exists considerations which defends the crimes by youths which states that the crimes are neither committed are not with satisfactory capability, hence no adequate justice to judge them with the transgressions during adulthood (Sanborn 1997). Submitting juvenile files into Federal Court sentencing can result to either an extended sentence or death penalty judgment increased. There exist conditions set by the U.S ultimate court to govern on the policy. For almost seven decades now, trials in juvenile courts only gratify basic essential fairness. The arbitrated law breakers are not judged according to the constitution. The 14th Alteration clause necessitates much less in the way human rights than is assured under the bill of rights in the criminal law court. (Sanborn 1997). Allowing use of juvenile records in the court of law is not justified and should not be used to judge adult criminals. Detecting behavioral shifts from juvenile to adult s court system is complicated due to the following reasons: i. It is evident that violent behaviors varies over the age distribution (Handler, Joel 1965). • 8. Eliminating Wildcat Class Wildcat class is a short period that is used mostly by kids to relax or socialize. Principal Ramsey is considering eliminating the period. Eliminating Wildcat Class would be beneficial to the students at West Ridge Middle School. First, it would allow for more instructional time, and it would benefit the student body s safety. More instructional time would allow the students a larger understanding of the topic. Even though, it only adds four minutes to each class, when combining many days worth of extra time, it adds up to a exceptional amount of instructional time. In many students classes, the teacher is unable to finish explaining the lesson. If four minutes were to be added, the class would be able to learn and move on to another topic. ... The school does not even assign a large amount of homework; the largest workload I have heard a student given was one or two hours. Another person may argue that students often hurry to their method of transportation after 7th period, often forgetting their assigned homework. The students that travel home via bus would hurry because they are afraid that the bus would leave them behind; that would be easily remedied. If students did not hurry, the buses would be obligated to wait for the rest of the students that traveled by bus. The Economist said the ability to breed genetically modified mice that can be used to study the genetic basis of diseases including caner, Parkinson s and Alzheimer s has boosted the total number of experiments almost every year (Britain: Tweaking the Experiments; Animal Testing). Also having experiments results could help resolve other illnesses or diseases when the society comes across to a new disease or illness. Maybe scientists and researcher would not need to more experiments on animals because they could go back to the results that they already have in hands. Scientists and researcher should always have these in records. In the Times in London, Devlin said Testing on animals has been involved in almost every medical treatment that is available today antibiotics, insulin, cancer drugs, heart surgery and organ transplantation (Devlin). Most medical treatments would not exist today if society did not exercise the use of animal testing. Animal testing has brought society this far within the medical industry. Narrative Style and Structure of James and the Giant Peach The books that Roald Dahl has written have very interesting narrative styles. In the story James and the Giant Peach, Dahl uses vivid imagination. He uses many imaginary situations but yet at the same time encompasses enough realistic situations that the reader can still relate to it. In James and the Giant Peach, it starts out introducing a boy named James Henry Trotter who lives with his loving mother and father. The narrator of the book tells us, the readers, that James and his family s dream is to sail to New York City and climb all the way to the top of the Empire State Building. This introduction makes us think that this story is realistic, because the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These bugs carry on many different human like characteristics, which help make Dahl s imaginative story seem somewhat realistic. All of these bugs talk to James about how they hate life on the hill and a bug eats away the stem of the peach and they go rolling down the hill. Throughout the story the peach, with all of the characters inside, is on a dangerous adventure. After going through oceans and winds, the peach lands them on the top of the Empire State Building. The bugs help capture the evil aunts and they live happily together. This story is told in the third person point of view, which helps the reader understand the whole story and not just one character s side. If the story was told by just one character s point of view, the story could be similar but one would only see the view of that character. By Dahl using third person point of view, this allows the readers to see each characters views and thoughts of what is happening in the story. Also, throughout the book Dahl has the narrator asking many questions to make the reader imagine what is going to happen next. Usually the question comes toward the end of a page so the reader has to wonder or is caught in suspense until the page is flipped. This gives the reader a chance to use their imagination and guess what happens next. I believe this sort of writing helps Dahl pull his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dachau intended for obedient and submissive labor to be implemented into the heads of the prisoners through a persistent system of propaganda. Dachau was originally an abandoned ammunitions factory, and for this reason it was a targeted location to set up operations (Encyclopedia of the Holocaust 341). Furthermore, this armaments industry quickly became vital to the operation of the Nazi army, seeing that the ammunition and weapons the prisoners could produce was unprecedented. The cost of labor was also exceptionally low as the only thing needed to be paid for was the prisoner s feeble rations. Apart from weapons and ammunitions manufacturing, other labor consisted of the management of the camp which was completely prisoner run. As a result further excavations of this area were undertaken by the Metropolitan Museum during the seasons of 1926 27, 1927 28, and 1928 29. These excavations were predominantly carried out in two important locations: a depression southeast of Deir el Bahri temple (also called the Hatshepsut Hole ) and a quarry northeast of the temple. [1] The Metropolitan Museum crew started to reassemble these fragments and by 1931 the reconstructions were complete and offered a rather large collection of statues and objects from Hatshepsut s temple. More statues have survived of Hatshepsut than any other Egyptian Pharaoh. Ironically, this was due to the destruction of these statues a mere twenty years after they were created. The way they look, their tendencies, purposes, and other characteristics of vampires, appear to differ based on the time period in which the vampire folklore originated or what culture it derived from. Originating its characteristics in folklore where is it often seen as grotesque, the vampire in modern day is seen to be more attractive, sexual, and, in some ways, not as fearful. Various types of literature containing these monsters have been the spotlight and main influence of how the world views them today. In Bram Stoker s Dracula, the literature takes a turn for the vampire that lets the world view it as more of civil being. Often people in today s society due to this novel think of fangs, a pointy nose, wearing a cape, and one not having a reflection when thinking of a vampire. Throughout this book Stoker represents the uneasiness of society at the time, including capitalist greed, homosexuality, as well as female sexuality. In the beginning of the novel, Johnathon Harker arrives at the castle of The Count and when first introduced he is in confusion of who he is actually meeting. In the line, What manner of man is this, or what manner of creature is it in the semblance of man? (Stoker chp.3,p.48), Stoker is essentially representing the fear of humanity s animal nature and not having that sense of control over them. The Count describes himself as a hunter of sorts and with that comes the thirst for blood. With vampires today, the main thing people think of is most likely how they replenish themselves with blood, as sometimes especially within folklore this was not always a characteristic of the monster. Throughout the novel there are multiple instances in which The Count as well as the women vampires are tempted to snag a bite of Harker s neck. (FIND QUOTE). Stoker s Dracula also expresses the fear of female sexuality in a way that past folklores did not. • 40. Abortion Vs Abortion In Beowulf The Killer Within Within each individual, there is a sliver of a killer living deep inside. The most evident of these is expressed through the action of abortion. In comparison to abortion, Grendel s attacks in Beowulf blindsides the faultless people of Herot demolishing the town where they reside. Grendel unremorsefully targets the helpless citizens of Herot while abortion also quarries on innocent victims leaving emotional, physical, and psychological devastations in its wake. In comparison with the emotional baggage that comes along with the attacks on the hall of Herot, abortion similarly impacts the lives of Americans today. The aftermath of the attacks played out by Grendel can easily be compared to the lasting effects an abortion can have on numerous lives. The theme of innocence is best displayed when the author portrays Grendel coming upon sleeping citizens of Herot. As any vicious monster does, Grendel takes advantage of the individuals who are asleep and strips the life away from their souls. Likewise, abortion essentially commits the same crime as Grendel. However, abortion can be delineated as the monster of the real world. To elaborate, abortion permits the legal act of murder while tacking on distress to those around them as a result. One key difference among many is the simple point that abortion grants permission by law to legally seize the life of a child who never even got the chance to take a breath of fresh air. In addition, some Americans even view ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Women in Athens Sparta Women in Ancient Sparta amp; Athens By: Tony Knuth 12/9/09 Historians have spent a long time attempting to establish what exactly life was like for women in ancient Greece. Like all studies of ancient Greece, they focus primarily on the two most powerful city states in the Hellenic world, Athens and Sparta. Since the majority of the primary documents deal with these two cities, historians are only able to decipher a fragmentary view of what life was actually like for the entirety of society, let alone what life was like for women specifically. Nevertheless, researchers have dug through the chronicles of primary sources available in order to provide the most accurate depiction of Greek women possible. Researchers generally start by ... In addition, CSUN Spartan women did not marry when they were of tender years, but [when] in their full bloom and ripeness , allowing many of them to pursue their education for the same length of time as modern students. They most likely learned cultural norms through differing types of performance art, specifically choruses sung at festivals or during early plays, along with reading, arithmetic and writing. The purpose of these performances by young maidens was twofold: first to entice young men to marry, along with instilling both men and women with the idea of what a good Spartan should be. In addition to having a great deal of freedom in education, Spartan women were also able to own land. In his work Politics, Aristotle points out that about two fifths of the whole land are in the possession of women . Women would generally obtain these properties through large dowries given in marriage, or through inheritance as is evident when Aristotle laments the practice of giving large dowries saying it would be better if there were no dowries, or if they were small or at any rate moderate . Women s ability to become the sole proprietors of land was something relatively unheard of in the Hellenic world, hence Aristotle s confusion and desire to reduce the amount of land held by them. Athenian women s role was identical to that of Spartan women in respect to their importance in reproduction. Thucydides states that Pericles encouraged procreation and saw a double ... They speed up reactions by providing an alternative reaction pathway of lower activation energy. Like all catalysts, enzymes take part in the reaction that is how they provide an alternative reaction pathway. But they do not undergo permanent changes and so remain unchanged at the end of the reaction. They can only alter the rate of reaction, not the position of the equilibrium. • 51. The Factors Of The French Resistance In World War II The French Resistance The French Resistance was a collection of resistance groups that fought against Nazi Germany and its puppet state of Vichy France. They were mainly comprised of men and women who fought the Nazis through sabotage, ambushes, and hit and run tactics; disrupting power grids, transport lines, and telecommunications. In addition to guerilla warfare, they also published underground newspapers, collected intelligence, and helped Allied soldiers trapped behind enemy lines to escape. Furthermore, they also played a large role in Operation Overlord (invasion of northern France) and Operation Dragoon (invasion of southern France) by providing the Allies with locations of Nazi fortifications and defenses. The French Resistance was extremely crucial to winning World War II and saving the lives of Allied soldiers. The surrender of France to the Nazis in June of 1940 was a major blow to French nationalism. Many believed the government had let the people down by fleeing Paris and through the creation of Vichy France, a French puppet government supported by the Nazis. The assurance by the French government that the Maginot Line was more than strong enough to resist a Nazi attack was of course, proved false. The Maginot Line also had a glaring weakness: there were very little fortifications bordering Belgium.
