Examples Of Allegory In Beowulf
The Allegory of the Dragon in Beowulf
In the Book of the Apocalypse, Rome is represented by several allegories: the beast of the land, the
beast from the sea, the harlot, Babylon, and the dragon. The Beowulf poet also manipulates the
dragon allegory to represent Rome, but his dragon represents not Rome, pure and simple, but a
hostile area of the (former) Roman empire, the Romanized Britain or the Roman British .
There is increasing consensus among critics against Tolkien s views that the dragonis a different
sort of creature from the Grendel tribe (Gang 6) and that among the innumerable dragon stories
there is probably not one which we can declare to be really identical with that of Beowulf
(Chambers 97). Of course, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, there are several reasons for Beowulf s taking up of arms against the dragon: defense of
the country, vengeance, and punishment: With his live coals the fiery dragon had utterly destroyed
all the coastline and nation s impregnable fortress, the stronghold of that region; the warlike king,
the prince of the Wederas, planned to take revenge on him for this (2333 36).
Though the dragon is in many ways different from Grendel, he is in some ways very much like
Grendel: he too hates the Geats and humbles them (2318 19); he, too, harms the Geats and even
destroys the royal hall of Beowulf (2325 26), while Grendel is not allowed to approach Hrothgar
s gifstol (168 169). The dragon, like Grendel (166 167), is also a ruler of the land only during dark
nights (2210 11). Both have heathen associations: Grendel is heathen (852, 986); the dragon,
though not called heathen specifically by the poet, guards, however, the treasure of the heathen
(2276 77, 2216).[17]
The poet indicates the quasi indigenous character of the dragon by saying that he has guarded the
treasure for some three hundred years (2278 79); in other words, he is not merely a foreign force
like Grendel Rome nor an intruder like the thief from the Germanic kingdom (2214 25). By limiting
the dragon s presence on the British soil to three hundred years, the poet seems to suggest that the
British themselves came from elsewhere as the Anglo Saxons

Fraternal Twins Nature Vs Nurture
Twins are a unique twist to life. Families are blessed with one pregnancy and two children. Twins
open a portal for researchers to study the oldest debate in psychology; nature vs. nurture, a concept
that seems to stump many and have few models to learn from. Essentially, there are two types of
twins. There are identical twins, who are monozygotic, developing from a single fertilized egg,
split. Then, there are fraternal twins, who come from two separate fertilized eggs, making them
dizygotic. Identical twins share 100% of their DNA, practically making them clones; while fraternal
twins share 50% DNA. When studying twins, many scientists use both identical and fraternal twins
to analyze how the environment and genetic makeup can influence attitude... Show more content on

Twin studies are vital for behavioral genetics in the sense that researchers can study how
genetics can influence certain traits. For example, identical twins many be raised in the same
household and both enjoy horseback riding, while a set of fraternal twins may not both enjoy
horseback riding. The standard study conducted is based on twins raised in the same family
environment, as this method can show how life experiences play a role. Many twins are raised in
the same home and share a lot of the same experiences, which can impact their behavior, no
matter the genetic makeup. A significant theory associated with twin studies is the Random
Mating theory. In this theory, researchers tend to assume that people are as likely to choose
partners who are different from themselves as they are to choose partners who are similar for a
particular trait (2017). While twin studies are essential in gathering data for behavioral genetics,
they can only estimate the heritability of a trait, while molecular genetics attempts to pinpoint the
effects of a particular gene. While twins who grow up in a similar environment is the ideal method
used, there are cases that involve twins who grew up in separate environments. In Joseph s (2014)
piece, he reviews common facts and fallacies associated with studies on twins reared apart. It was
found that, a particular study,

Madison Richard Mrs. McGuire English III 11 August 2015 The Autobiography of Miss Jane
Pittman by Ernest Gaines and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck chronicle the lives of people
striving to be happy and obtain their own American Dream. These fictional characters mirror the
lives and struggles of real people fighting to create their own lives in America. Many African
Americans decided to pick up their lives and head out to find a new life in the North, known as
the Great Migration. Both The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman and Of Mice and Men show
people striving for their own American Dream just as those did during the Great Migration. The
Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman is a book about a black woman s life in the South before
and after the abolishment of slavery. We get to follow her from her childhood as a slave on a
plantation to her new life as an orphaned young girl alone but free. She leads a very eventful life,
raising an orphaned child, Ned, at a very young age and living many different places. She works
hard to provide for herself and Ned, sacrificing her childhood and education to ensure Ned receives

thought was very cute, however my good friend George was not pleased with me as he took the
class because of me, and also because he likes me so he didn t want me to do a project with a cute
boy. Also George and I have been friends for a few months so we already knew the differences
between us as he is very religious and I am very atheist. Also I m a very active outdoorsy person

This hating on atheists continued for some time until the man finally said that Easter was
important because while these people like Thomas Jefferson were non believers a lot of their
accomplishments revolved around ideas that originated from Jesus, and then gave examples of
the constitution that were referenced from the new testament and claimed that Easter was
important because the death and rebirth of Jesus shaped the way our society was, and claimed
that that s why America only has had on constitution because it was based on Jesus. And while I
found that to be a little farfetched I admired the way that the pastor was able to turn something
that was negative for these people, as they were all upset, into something positive for them that
reinstated their beliefs. Then after this part of the sermon hey had a message from god s word
quoted from 1 Peter 1:3 5 and everyone stood up and said it with pride. After during the
congregational response the pastor said something that I really admired. He said I know that we all

Great Britain s Role In Canada
From confederation to the turn of the century, Canada has been a nation that maintained close ties
with Britain, its mother country. The strong connection between Canada and Britain is often used
to define what Canada is. This relationship more or less determined what the people of Canada
believed in, acted upon and looked up to. During this period, the lack of a clear identity put many
Canadians in search of one. However, there were little in common between the Canadians across the
nation. This encouraged many people of Canadato worship the British model of culture, morals and
beliefs. The sense of security and status that they see to be a product of their connection with Great
Britain prompted a great number of imperialists to support Canadians... Show more content on

After the confederation, instead of unity, many Canadians felt diversity was too strong of a
sentiment to ignore. It has proved that the passage of time did little to mute cultural differences
and [perhaps] deepened and intensified [the divisions]. It was apparent that appeals to a common
language, a common cultural tradition, or a common religion were simply impossible for
Canadians. This then prompted many people in Canada to find a way to establish Canadian
nationalism, or simply define what being Canadian means. Although Canadians were struggling to
find common ground in the initial stages after confederation, they presumed more or less that
their day to day life would be carried out in accordance with the British model when the
newcomers arrived. It was in people s conscience that an Anglo Canadian society modelled
exclusively on a British mould was a possible option. During this period of confusion, the
connection between Canada and Britain gave Canadians a sense of direction and provided a model
that they could follow. In the early fuzzy stages of struggling to identify themselves, Britain
somehow provided people of Canada a culture, morals and beliefs to abide by and give off a sense
of security during their continuous search of a Canadian identity. Many Canadians recognized that

Gorham Family Structure
Hello everyone, I live in Gorham Maine. The maps indicate that ACS 2013 in Gorham, has a
total of 2,156 households with 1,176 of those to be married couples. Of those 539 households
with married couples have one or more children living at home under the age of 18 (Social
Explorer, 2013). My family household is myself, my husband of 23 years, and our 15 year old
daughter. We have a 21 year old daughter who lives on her own currently in Colorado. I think the
changes in familyhas to do with how families have changed to now recognize families of same sex
couples. This is a huge leap from the 1950 s model of a nuclear family of husband, wife, and their
children (New York University Department of Sociology, 2013). Society as a

The Effect Of Modern Medicine On Health, Wellness, And...
As interest in natural means to improved health, wellness and fitness grows, essential oils are
gaining in popularity in the United States. The healing powers, on both physiological and
psychological levels, have been utilized in Europe and the rest of the world for some time. Natural,
pure essential oils used in aromatherapy have a very diverse range of healing properties as diverse
as the hundreds of plants from which they are distilled. The effects range from antibiotic (without
incurrence of resistance as with pharmaceutical drugs), to antiviral (the power of which modern
medicine has yet to replicate), to anti inflammatory and analgesic, with many having homeostatic
properties meaning they support balance in many of the body s systems.
Here s brief look at ten essential oils commonly used in the home health care kit the list and
descriptions are not meant to be exhaustive; rather, let them stimulate your interest in furthering
your knowledge of these oils, their applications, and the vast potential of the many, many other
essential oils available today.

Witches And The Witch Trials
In Europe from the late fifteenth to early seventeenth centuries many people, both men and
women, were persecuted as witches. The reasons for the persecution of individuals as witches
included gender discrimination, religious fanaticism, an explanation for the otherwise
unexplainable events that took place, and even as a way for secular officials to gain more wealth.
Misogyny being a cause to the witch trials may have resulted from the new roles of women in
society conflicting with the traditional views of women as sinful, and also accounts for why the
majority of individuals persecuted were women. A religious spark was ignited during the Protestant
Reformationas people became more religiously devoted and wanted to eliminate threats to their
faith, such as witches. Many strange occurrences such as disease or even non harmful events that
were simply unexplainable led people to believe witches as the causes. Some people may have not
even believed another person to be a witch but may have just wanted wealth and that person s
possessions and declared them a witch for that reason. All these factors contributed to the period
now known as the witch craze, which resulted in the torture and death of many people.
One of the main factors in the persecution of witches comes from the men of the time s
misogynistic attitudes. During this time, women were beginning to take more prominent roles in
society, like the notable humanist Christine de Pizan or The First Lady of the Renaissance,

Radio Frequency Identification And Its Application
Radio Frequency Identification its Application in Retail Business

INTRODUCTION
Engineering is giving organizations approaches to end up quicker and more effective in every
aspect of the inventory control and supply chain, from the business to the consumer. The motivation
behind this paper is to investigate one technology that has had an incredible effect on the production
planning. This technology is the Radio Frequency identification (RFID).
What is RFID?
Radio frequency identification has gained its awareness after it has been recently introduced in the
field of retail and supply chain management. This technology uses radio waves to automatically ...

This antenna enables the chip to transfer the waves back to the reader. The reader then converts
the radio waves into digital information that can be analyzed from the computer. Based on the
frequency the tags are classified as active and passive. Passive tags operate at microwave frequency
and its use can be limited in the read zone. It will become latent after leaving the read zone. Active
tags have power from an internal battery and hence do not need a reader. These tags can store more
data and are expensive than passive tags. The picture below (Fig 1.) describes the process of RFID
tags works. Figure 1 : How RFID Works
RFID Challenges in Retail Business
Agility, speed and visibility are required into all the manufacturing process during all stages to
ensure high accuracy of delivering goods. There are a number of challenges that the retail business
face before implementing the RFID like lacking transparency, time consuming and labor intensive
manual work and challenging warehouse management, and production planning. All these are
prone to human error. The RFID focuses on prime issues like out of stock (OOS), inventory
accuracy, product location and loss detection. Implementing RFID with the business process
enhances the replenishment practices of the company, decreasing the out of stocks.
Factors for Implementing RFID
By studying why the retailers wanted to implement RFID in their business operations, majority of

The Iliad Essay
Divine Intervention is a direct and obvious intervention by a god or goddess in the affairs of
humans . In various myths such as the Iliad, the Epic of Gilgamesh, and Herakles, divine
intervention was called upon in order to restrain a hero s destructive or too powerful forces.
Although the divine intervention was used to impair different heroes, the purpose to constrain was
the same in all the narratives.
Homer s The Iliad: Book XX features a battle between the Trojans and Achaians, shortly after
Patroklus death (Lattimore Book XVI), where the gods must intervene in order to restrain
Achilleus destructive nature that becomes amplified due to the grief and wrath as a result of the
loss of his cousin/lover. The divine foresaw an early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It plays a main role in the beginning with the creation of Enkidu, the middle with Ishtar, and the end
with the destruction of Enkidu. The gods first intervene when Gilgamesh s subjects call for help to
them for the sake of the young women oppressed by the lord s right . The Great Mother Goddess
creates Enkidu to stand up against Gilgmesh to stop his destructive nature that has terrorized his
city (Dalley 39 50). Gilgamesh domesticates Enkidu and they create a friendship which turns
Gilgamesh less destructive towards his citizens, thus limiting his destructive power and also
focusing the remaining towards monsters; but together they make some wrong choices and their
destructive natures are portrayed during the Cedar Forest incident and the killing of the bull of
heaven (Dalley 83,102). For retribution of killing the bull that Ishtar had sent due to her rejection,
Enkidu is destroyed by the gods; warning Gilgamesh that he isn t exempt from this fate if he
continues being uncontrollable and tyrannical (Dalley 120 125).
Euripides tragedy, Herakles, consistently portrays divine intervention as if it s a direct challenge
between a divine figure, Hera, and a hero, Herakles. Hera s hatred for Herakles stems from his
parentage, Alcmene and Zues (Hera s husband), making Herakles an offspring created by his
unfaithfulness towards her (Sleigh 12). Hera also dislikes the fact that he has godly

Explain How Asexual Reproduction Is Different From Sexual...
1. Explain how asexual reproduction is different from sexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction
is different from seucal reproduction because it reproduces through mitosis which clones the
cell and results in the new cells being identical to the parent cell. However, sexual reproduction
takes 50% (about) of the chromosomes of each parent to create a new diploid (zygote) which
creates genetic variation and could be advantageous to evolving/natural selection. 2. Explain what
happens during crossing over and when it occurs in meiosis. Crossing over occurs in prophase I
which is the first prophase of meiosis. Two chromosomes each from one parent can physically
connect and share genetic information (creating a chiasma). As a result, genetic variation
increases. 3. How is metaphase I different from metaphase of mitosis? Metaphase I is different
from metaphase of mitosis because in metaphase I homologous pairs are being separated and
pulled to the opposite ends of the cell by microtubules. However, in metaphase of mitosis, sister
chromatids are being separated to opposite ends of the cell. 4. Explain why sexual reproduction
increases variation among offspring much more than asexual reproduction does. Sexual
reproduction ensures that the offspring will be a combination traits from both the parents. Some
traits from both parents will be present (hopefully advantageous ones) and some traits will be
inactive (disadvantageous ones). This increases variation because no diploid

Characters In Alice Munro s Differently
In Alice Munro s short story Differently, the main character Georgia recounts memories of Maya
and their fallout when she visits her friend s widowed husband many years later. Upon her visit, her
mind is flooded with memories of friendship, infidelity, and broken trust which inevitably
disconnected her from Maya and Ben (Georgia s husband). Throughout the text, the author
highlights the main character s inability to filter through many details as she describes the end of
various relationships following Maya s betrayal. The author s thorough description of settings,
characters, and events emphasizes Georgia s difficulty in focusing on what details of her life are
important, as most of them seem important to her.
The opening words of Alice Munro s Differently introduce the style the author uses throughout the
short story: Georgia once took a creative writing course, and what the instructor told her was: Too
many things. Too many things going on at the same time; also too many people [...] What do you
want us to pay attention to? Think (Munro 1). These lines echo in the mind of the reader as they
dive further into the text, reading about too many things and meeting too many people.
Munro introduces Georgia, Raymond, Maya, Ben, Harvey, Anne, Hilda and her former creative
writing instructor all within the first few pages. The role of each character (aside from the creative
writing instructor) is clouded with the details of their physical appearance or small mannerisms.

Is Us Military Becoming Outdated
In a 2015 article, Is U.S. military becoming outdated? written by Stuart Bradin, Keenan Yoho, and
Meaghan Keeler Pettigrew, the authors argued that despite the U.S. military maintaining a position
of global dominance without peer during conventional operations, it is not the ideal force against
current and future threats. The authors claim that there are several negative factors arising due to
the past sixteen years of war against several state and non state elements, inferior cultural
differences of government bureaucracycompared to commercial firms, and a misallocation of
defense spending that leaves the US militarywaging war inefficiently while simultaneously losing
technological dominance against current and future threats.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Night vision devices, increasingly cheap and prolific, has also reduced US military dominance,
regressing US combat power back to the days of the Vietnam Conflict where the Viet Cong owned
the night. Social media, stable and available to all, also allows the enemy advanced warning of US
activities by way of not only their own organic capacity but that of neutral or unknowing elements
who just want to be the first to identify something new and exciting to anyone willing to listen or
watch. The authors also correctly identified the inferior culture of the US bureaucracy in
comparison to more agile commercial firms. While performing relatively slowly, rigidly, and
inefficiently, the bureaucracy would continue as normal until it finds itself outmaneuvered and
outgunned by more agile threats. Moreover, within the US bureaucracy, the few leaders who are
capable of revolutionary thinking are often marginalized and buried by the more conservative
thinkers. Successful commercial firms, on the other hand, have proven to perform more quickly
and efficiently through the correct allocation of resources. This can be seen in the most successful
firms to include Apple, Google, and Amazon with a much more streamlined and less risk averse as
well as profitable cultures. Contrary to the acceptable evidence that the authors provided by

Operating expenses are listed under expenses in the profit and loss report. Only the direct cost

The Government Of Hong Kong Essay
There have been several solutions informed to the government of Hong Kong to encourage green
features such as communal gardens, sunshades and reflectors, wind catchers and noise barriers. (Lo,
2005). The need for green architecture is expanded within this book, justifying the demand in
adopting sustainability within high density cities. Energy efficient designs and renewable energy
sources in buildings have become a world trend in striving for a sustainable future. (Lo, 2005) The
inevitable growing capacity of population and urbanization leads to perceiving high density cities as
a problem. However the sustainabilityintegration will help reduce the energy usage, diminish the
use of fossil fuels and develop new ways to designing architecture.
4.
Do buildings and cities, in the way they are currently built, contribute to green economy and
growth? (Aboulnaga, 2014) The book illustrates how sustainability enhances architecture in the
long term, but also seeks for solutions such as renewable energy, and promoting energy efficient
buildings. There are features to classifying a sustainable building, such as site and surroundings,
energy efficiency, renewable energy use, water consumption, materials etc.
5.
Perhaps the implementation of sustainability in Hong Kong is appropriate due to giving aid to the
damage made towards the surrounding environment. A building with a creative concept is sensitive
to its environment, protecting environment from pollution caused by

Abdominoplasty Essay
Make no mistake having a tummy tuck is major surgery, and it can take anything from a couple of
weeks to months for you to recover.
The medical term for a tummy tuck is Abdominoplasty. The purpose of a tummy tuck is to tighten
the abdomen walls and muscles. It does a great job of minimizing a protruding stomach, but it s not
always straightforward. Some possible side effects after having a tummy tuck include scarring,
infection or a long recovery period.
Some people think that a tummy tuck is a magical solution to help them lose a substantial amount
of weight, but this isn t true. In fact, a good surgeon will usually refuse to perform this surgery on a
very obese person. There are too many risks, both with the surgery and the anesthesia,

The s Expulsion Of Adam And Eve From Eden
Humanity as depicted by artists reflects the values of a society. Different ages have held different
perspectives on humanity. These varying perspectives are displayed through the creation of each
artist, writer, and composer. An era is described by what is produced in it; therefore, the ideas
about humanity displayed in each piece of artwork are the same ideas that shaped a particular era.
By examining components of the various pieces produced in an era, one can determine the majority
view of humanity during that time and trace the shifts in society s perspective. As time has
progressed, art transformed from having specific moral meaning to having purely subjective
meaning. During the Renaissance, art focused on biblical scenes portraying Christian ideals.
While this is nothing unusual, it is key in determining what values people in that era
appreciated. The theme that begins to emerge in the early Renaissance is the psychological state
of the people depicted. Masaccio s Expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden is one of the earlier
examples. The couple is clearly distraught and ashamed of their sin as they trudge out of the
garden. Brunelleschi and Ghiberti also follow this idea in their works by the same name, The
Sacrifice of Isaac. Both sculptors characters convey varying emotions of this sacrifice through
position and expression. Masaccio s The Holy Trinity depicts the pain and agony at the cross with
an emphasis on Jesus instead of Mary.

Alcoholism In The Merriam Webster
Alcohol is the drug most commonly abused compared to other illegal drugs. Alcoholism in the
Merriam Webster is defined as as a chronic, progressive, fatal disorder marked by excessive and
usually compulsive drinking of alcohol leading to psychological and physical dependence or
addiction. In families, alcoholismcan become a powerful organizer of family life, altering the
details of daily routines as well as special occasions [however], not all families suffer the
consequences of alcoholism in the same way (Bennett, Wolin, Reiss and Teitelbaum). Although it
may be the case in which each family does not go through the same issues, it still has an influence

Impacts on the children
Children that grow up to be in an environment where one or both parents are alcoholics create an
unhealthy atmosphere. Roughly about one out of every four U.S children under the age of 18 is
exposed to the effects of alcohol abuse or dependence (athealth.com). This increases the child s
chances of having a higher risk of alcohol problems of their own. The issues that are brought upon
the child is that they believe they are the ones who caused the whole situation. They grow up
having little moral support by either parent causing them to do poorly in school and becoming a
troublemaker .
The kids that had an alcohol problem in their family had similar symptoms like low self esteem,
loneliness, guilt, feeling of helplessness, fears of abandonment and chronic depression (Heffner
Tetyana). When the child is younger they do not properly understand what is going on, making
them fear the outcomes that could occur when the alcoholic parent is drunk. In result, the child
tends to isolate themselves from other children at school not making any friends. In addition, they
may have frequent nightmares, bedwetting, and crying (Heffner

Female Sexuality
The female sexuality plays the very important role in both DRACULA and MAXIMUM GAGA.
They both talk about the virginity and dissoluteness in female sexuality, but have different views
about it. In DRACULA, only virginity is accepted; dissoluteness is completely intolerable. Stoker
thinks virginity is very precious, and he want the readers know that women will be punished for
being lascivious, so each female character has different ending in terms of their virginity. In
MAXIMUM GAGA, Lara didn t give an exact attitude about the virginity and dissoluteness in
female sexuality; she thinks they can exist at the same time. In DRACULA, the general content is

Men don t appreciate women being dissipated. They wanted to kill her to make her back to
normal. Also, Lucy has the worse ending which all the guys she loved and loved her before want
to kill her and Van Helsing cut off her head and filled her mouth with garlic. All of these occurred
because she was not very pure and loyal when she is a human; she needs to pay for her
dissoluteness.
The three sisters had already been transformed to be vampires by Dracula, and Stoker makes
them as the most sexual ones. In Jonathan s journal, The girl went on her knees, and bent over
me, simply gloating. There was a deliberate voluptuousness which was both thrilling and
repulsive. (Stoker, 43) Their ends are very miserable. They were all killed by Van Helsing. Like
Lucy, they also need to pay for their dissoluteness, which supports Stoker s view about the
preciousness of virginity.
In MAXIMUM GAGA, Lara also put a lot of weight on female sexuality, virginity and
dissoluteness to be specifically. Basically, the book is all about sexuality, there are sex between
human and machines, orifice and all the crazy staffs. The big argument in the book is the
relationship between virginity and dissoluteness in female sexuality. It s kind of complex that
women have both virginity and dissoluteness at the same time. It looks like female is very
dissipated here; however, they still have an idea about virginity. We see the dissoluteness at the
most parts in the book. All the descriptions

Children Of The Victorian Era
Abandon Children In the Victorian era many lower class women abandoned their children
because they didn t have a stable financial income. Majority of the kids that were relinquished,
because of absence of income in a family. The few shelters existing in the Victorian culture were
awful to the point that numerous kids decided to live on their own in the city. Orphans living on
their own in the city would most likely make them prone to becoming criminals. There was an
abundance of things that could happen to the children of the village. Generally, adoption was
unlikely. This is because there was no proper way to go about adopting a child in Victorian
times. The living and working conditions of the poor were so unsanitary and crowded that
diseases such as typhus and tuberculosis often spread unchecked, sending many of their victims

they had one surviving parent, had been abandoned by their family, or were forced out into the

The Walking Dead represents fear, betrayal, sacrifice, hope, leadership and, the conflict between
good and bad. Fear, the main theme of the show, followed by sacrifice is portrayed in every
episode where everyone fears where are they going to end the next day, where they find
themselves questioning if that is their last day, scared of losing a loved one and of course, the
fear of being eaten by walkers . Sacrifice, portrayed at its highest, on life or death situations
where every character feels torn between two options that may affect someone in one way or
another, as well when someone will die for the safety of others. Betrayal, one of the most
repetitive themes in the show that represents what will a person do to save himself/herself in a
life or death situation, and in this case, each character try to build up alliances that at the end,
they betray their own, which could lead to someone dying or getting hurt, depending on the
situation. Leadership and hope can be put together since in the show, the main thing that a leader
should do is give his/her followers hope that everything can get better, and the show portrays it
every time Rick Grimes try to take matters on his hands for his group, considered as his family,
hope as well, as the birth of Rick s daughter, brought a more hopeful future for the survivors. The

Factors Of Juvenile Crime
Juvenile crime has been a major issue in the United State, from the beginning and its impact on
society. People are trying to find effective ways to stop it. Juvenile crime has many factors that
influences the United States and makes people want to stop it. Juvenile crime is an issue that needs
to be stopped. Juvenile crimecan be a danger to many people. Juvenile crime had a strong uprising
when conditions within the society got worse. Research over the past few decades on normal child
development and development on delinquent behavior has shown that individual, social, and
community conditions and interactions influence behavior(McCord). This says that in bad
environments in the community the children that live there are more likely to be an individual with
juvenile delinquency. Clearly, genes affect biological development, but there is no biological
development without environmental input, Bock and Goode (McCord, 66). This quote says
that environmental interaction develops kids, so kids that interact with a bad environment can
end up in a worse position than other kids [what other kids? Kids from a good environment?
JMH]. The age can influence whether or not a child will be a juvenile delinquent. Studies of
criminal activity by age constantly find that rates of offending begin to rise in pre adolescence
or early adulthood(McCord). This says that juvenile crime usually starts when the children are
teens or entering their puberty years. This can be a big deal because that age is usually when
kids are influenced more easily. The percentage of boys who self reported serious delinquent
behavior rose from 5 percent at age 6 to about 18 percent at age 16 for whites and 27 percent for
blacks at age 16. Loeber (McCord,68). This says that delinquent behavior and crime rose for
each race at the age of 16. The family influence also plays a big role for a child if the child is
going to be a delinquent or not. When families have difficulties with the task laid on them, the
product often is a juvenile delinquent.(McCord) This says that parents with no care in how their
child ends up will have their child become a juvenile delinquent.
Juvenile crime is affecting the United states because Juvenile crime and

The Roman Catholic Church s Influence And Governance Over...
This essay will identify and examine the significance of the Roman Catholic Church s influence and
governance over Europe throughout the Middle Ages. For the purposes of this essay, the Middle
Ages refers to the period between the Conversion of Constantine in 313CE and the onset of the
Renaissance Period during the early 14th century. In addition, this essay will examine and account
for change in the institution and theology of the Roman Catholic Church. It will identify the nature
and importance of continuity and the diversity of causes and outcomes of the Church s influence
through a range of historical perspectives. Since the conversion of Constantine in 313CE,
Christianity transformed from a persecuted, unorganized group of believers into a hierarchical,
European dominating institution over the course of the Middle Ages. Developing alongside the
changing political environment of post Roman Europe, the Roman Catholic Church became the
single most dominant institution in medieval life, its influence pervading almost every aspect of
people s lives. Catholicism influenced the calendar, significant events and rituals such as baptism,
confirmation, marriage and penance, and mainstream spiritual and ethical beliefs. Most people
were fully convinced of the validity of the church s teachings and believed that only the faithful
would avoid hell and gain eternal salvation in heaven. By the Norman Conquest of England in
1066CE, Christianity had conquered the totality of Europe.

Disobedience, Deliverance, Destruction. After the death of Joshua, the men of Judah and Joseph
conquered their territory and drove out the Canaanites, being obedient, but all the other tribes did
not. This signified a lack of trust in the Lord to fight their battles and was disobedient. Destroying
idols was a part of the covenant and most of Israel did not do this and God cursed them. Because
they had not destroyed the Canaanites, they would forever be in tension with them. The Israelites
repented of their sins, but the curse still was in place. One generation after the death of Joshua did

Deborah was a prophetess and she told Barak to attack the king, Sisera, and his army because the
Lord was with him. But Barak was afraid and cowardly. He did not trust God, and because of this
Deborah went with him. Then later Sisera was killed by Jael, another woman because God
would not give Barak the glory of killing the king because Barak had not trusted him. The
cowardice of the men shows the lawlessness and ungodliness of the generation. Midian oppressed
Israel, and yet again a judge is called, but Gideon is cowardly as well and God has to prove to
him over and over again that God should be trusted and obeyed. In the end of his life, Gideon
also made an ephod which in turn all of Israel worshiped. Though it does not say Gideon did, he

The Childhood Of A Hispanic Girl
As a hispanic girl, the typical dream which is expected of us is to want to have a quinceanera.
Which would be a large party for the transition from childhood to adulthood. However this wasn t
the way it went for me. My dreams where different. I could honestly care less about having a
huge party to celebrate me turning 15. Of course it would be great experience to have one and it is
a once in a lifetime thing as you can only turn 15 once. Yet, I tend to not want this but at the same
timeI long having one. This wouldn t be for the attention that is give or presents or anything you
would expect. I would want it so that I could fulfill a long termdream. One which I have held onto
for many years. I d do it, only in order to be able to meet my other biological parent. Growing up
my biological father was not present. Thus he fails to appear in many of my childhood
memories. However, if you were to ask any other person, chances are they know their father. If
not, they do remember him and have a piece of him in their memory. Yet, this isn t my case.
Therefore growing up I made it a long term goal to meet my father. Yes, I may have meet him
during the first few years of my life, as he was present there. However my memory does not trace
back up to that point. I also do not have any pictures of him. I have been told that I show much
resemblance to him, so I imagine him to have some of my own characteristics and features. His

The Prevalence Of Homelessness And Homelessness
The Prevalence of Homelessness
In this textual analysis, I m going to discuss the prevalence of homelessness in the United States. I
ll be using three songs from popular culture that focus on homelessness. Different artists perform
these three songs: Avril Lavigne, Bob Dylan, and Nirvana. I m going to address the values that
people who are homeless may have, according to what each artist conveys through their song lyrics.
Throughout the lyrics in each song, it seems like the artists are attempting to communicate to the
public that homelessness is a serious issue that nobody is immune to. The values that I have
gathered are bravery, hope, and perseverance.
I have chosen this topic because over half a million people are homeless, the government has
limited resources to help those who are homeless, and some cities are making homelessness illegal.
This topic is important to me because nobody is immune to homelessness, which is terrifying and
unfortunate. This topic should be important to others because homelessness is a serious problem
and it seems like we tend to treat people who are homeless like they re not human beings.
Some people think that if a person who s homeless wants to truly change their situation, they
would simply get a job. There s clothing assistance available for people who are homeless; having
access to a resource like this can help people who are homeless by providing them with appropriate
clothing for job interviews. Approximately 44% of people who are

Serial Killers Of Jack The Ripper
Jack The Ripper was a serial killer in East End London, in the late 1888 s. No one knows who it
is to this day. There are several theories to who it could be, most are males but there is still a little
doubt that could have been a woman, maybe both? The only thing that is known for sure these
women were victims of him or her. Jack The Ripperwas known for the way he murder, he left cuts
on both sides of the neck and made the knees or legs of the women up towards her chest or in the
air; in some cases he would destroy the body so bad that it was hard to identify who the victim
was. One of the only reasons police knew who the victims were in because Jack would write
notes to the police office or the newspaper company telling them who was killing next but not
when. Jack The Ripper was a man of pattern and rountie. His killings were all almost alike and his
victims had profiles that matched each other s.
Jack had five victims, who were all women; the women had a couple things in common, all but
one of the women were in their 40s, they were all drinkers, and most of the five women were
known to be in the business of prostitution. All five victims were found dead in poorly lit alley
ways or stairways, with their necks cut on either side and other lacerations throughout the body.
According to Josh Clark, this is what happened to the five victims of Jack The Ripper. Mary
Nichols was the first victim, found on August 31, 1888 at 3:45am. Mary was 44 years old who
liked her drinks. She was found in a narrow side street of Buck s Row in the Whitechapel; she
had an eight inch laceration to her throat that cut both of her major arteries and she had violent
cuts on her abdomen. Annie Chapman was the second victim, she was found on September 8,
1888 at 5:45am. Annie was a 47 year old widow who was a heavy drinker and survived through
prostitution. Annie was found outside an apartment at 29 Hanbury Street with a man of shabby
genteel , a few minutes after her being spotted with the man, a muffled scream of No! followed
by a loud thump on the fence. Her body was found in the backyard of the apartment, with her feet
pushed up toward her body, knees in the air and spread apart. Her throat was cut deeply from left to
right,

Who Is Lindsay Lohan
Purple Magazine
Purple Magazine
The rise and fall of Lindsay Lohan was a nationwide obsession from the mid 2000s to just a few
years ago. Everyone s favorite party girl just couldn t help but get herself into more trouble doing
drugs and having run ins with the cops. Not only was she tabloid fodder, but Lohan also blessed us
with some of the most outrageous and hilarious quotes of all time. Here are the top nine most
outrageous interview quotes Lindsay Lohan bestowed upon the world.
Number Nine: Lindsay Lohan On Her Drug Use
I really haven t done [cocaine] more than 10 or 15 times. I ve done it like 10 or 15 times. No, it
never felt good the next day. It was a party thing. I snorted it. I never injected anything other than

Although her police record has more to do with driving under the influence and breaking her court
mandated sobriety than innocent Twitter ramblings, those are just meaningless, little details to Linds.
Number Two: On Her Reputation
I want to be remembered for the work that I ve done, rather than the car accidents that I ve gotten
into, the men that I ve not dated or the man that I have. Helpful tip: Avoid getting into car
accidents if you want the media to remember you for your acting talents. So far, so good in the past
few months. Knocks on wood.
Number One: On Her Boobs And Loving Her Body
It s my body. And I like my body. And I like my breasts. And no, they re not fake. In case there
was any confusion, according to the owner herself, her boobs are in fact real. But hey, we always
support a little body appreciation.
Oh, Lindsay, you charmed us in The Parent Trap, but it looks like maybe Hollywood wasn t the
healthiest environment to grow up in. Either way, we will always love you and cherish the
priceless quotes you have blessed us with. Thanks for

So, Harrison picks them up and shakes them vigorously. I am the emperor, not only is Harrison
psychotic, he is also extremely arrogant. When he ripped off the door as he entered the studio,
he stared at the camera breathing heavily and still held onto the doorknob of the smashed door.
In the story Harrison says, I am a greater ruler than any man who ever lived, relating to that he
thinks he is the finest human being in history. Also, he commanded the musicians to play music
so he could dance with his empress. When he cast off his rubber ball nose, the text said, revealed
a man that would have awed Thor, the god of thunder, stating that he knew he was handsome and
wanted the world to know that he knew it in a way of being an emperor and overthrowing the

The Effect Of Concentration On Enzymatic Activity Of...
Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase
Rose Cruz
Arapahoe Community College
The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of
salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying
concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of
salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). Amylase is an enzyme responsible for
breaking down starch into sugars. It is hypothesized that a lower concentration of amylase would
cause the breakdown of starch to take a longer period of time or a slower reaction rate as opposed
to a higher concentration of amylase. The results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme
concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for
the enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity,
n.d.). The same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other
factors stay the same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be
as the enzyme breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic
activity increasing or decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors
affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active
sites available for a reaction to occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch
we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman,
2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells
containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals. Depending on what solution was used and how the
amylase broke down the starch, the color change was noted over time. Due to the information about
how concentration affects the reaction rate of an enzyme and substrate, we figured that a lower
concentration of amylase would cause a slower reaction rate meaning that with a

Final Reflection Paper
1.Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is
so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. My
whole life I have always wanted to do something where people will remember me. Throughout this
course, I have learned that I do not know what I want to do with my chosen major. I do not regret
majoring in Criminal Justicebecause I m positive I want to do something within the criminal
justice system. I have learned that I m open to different ideas and career paths. Through the
course, I have learned that I m a great multi tasker, I m always prepared ahead of time with my
deadlines and I never had to give excuses as to why something is not done on time.
a.I never expected to learn more than what this class had to offer. Even though the semester is
over, I feel I ve learned a lot about myself, and life after college. I spent about half of the year
wearing sweatpants, baggy, flashy clothing, and I was okay with that because it s important to
feel comfortable. This semester, I have also learned that if you dress well you get the
respectable attention and needed. When I had the interview and had to dress up, I noticed many
people looking my way and praising me, I felt respected and felt good about myself as well.
Stepping out of my comfort zone has never felt so good. I believe this would help me in my
future career to try new things and take risks. All in all, I have learned that I

A Polar Disorder Is A Serious Mental Affliction
Bi Polar Disorder is a serious mental affliction that has been and is being neglected severely. It is
one of those illness that can change someone s life drastically. It is important to know the history
of it, how it s diagnosed, how it s treated, and what are the signs that someone needs help. Bringing
awareness to this affliction may prevent someone s harm or death, or better yet allow someone to
know when they need help. Manic Depression Illness, or Bi Polar Disorder as we know it, was said
to have been officially discussed as a disorder in a lecture given by French psychiatrist and
neurologist Jules Gabriel Francois Baillarger. He described it as la folie ГЎ double forme , or the
dual form insanity. This term fit perfectly seeing as in earlier medical journals from almost every
ancient culture, for example: the Greeks, they mention patience suffering from both mania and
melancholia. The first and earliest official standard diagnosis, however, came from a different
French physician and psychiatrist named Jean Pierre Falret. Falret published an article describing
the disorder as la folie circulaire , or the circular depression. Although Falret was published first,
both theories came around in the 1850s. Bi Polar disorder is a mental illness characterized by
alternating periods of elation, depression, and/or anger. Although there is no definite cause, there
are many things that can trigger or activate it. One of the most common source is genetics. This

Comparing the Journeys of Hesse s Siddhartha and Gandhi Essay
Siddhartha and Gandhi strove for different goals during their lives. Siddhartha s goal was very
personal, while Gandhi s goal encompassed the world. This was shown by their spiritual
development throughout their journeys. Siddhartha evolved from an inexperienced spiritual being
to a man, returned to spirituality, and ended with nirvana. Gandhi traveled a much straighter path,
originally being a worldly man merely seeking his correct place in life, when his spiritual
development unexpectedly produced a great world leader; in Gandhi s own words, a politician
trying to be a saint. Siddhartha and Gandhi s main goals were always different, but they traveled
similar paths at times.
Siddhartha s goal was to find nirvana. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Siddhartha accordingly sought to lose himself, but only succeeded in returning to himself. At this
point, Siddhartha, the self centered thinker, re evaluated his path to nirvana. He came to the
conclusion that all teachings were useless, that he would have to find his own way to the state of
higher being. He expressed this to the Samanas, and to the Illustrious One, Buddha, whose
teachings his faithful shadow, Govinda, accepted. To nobody, O Illustrious One, can you
communicate in words and teachings what happened to you in your hour of enlightenment (Hesse
34). At this point, Siddhartha rejected all doctrines and teachings, believing experience to be the
only true teacher, and set off on his quest again.
Free of all thought and all connections but of those to himself, Siddhartha crossed a river, and
entered the town. Here was where Siddhartha gained the experience he had never before had. He
believed himself to have no teacher of doctrines or wisdom, but Kamala, the courtesan, and
Kamaswami, the merchant, eroded his morals and all the wisdom he had learned from other s lips,
as they taught him how to sin, how to lust for women, wine, possessions, and money. Siddhartha
became a man, and eventually forgot his goal of spiritual nirvana, gradually replacing it with a
more common goal; worldly nirvana, fashioned of wealth and other material pleasures. Despite

  • 2. Examples Of Allegory In Beowulf The Allegory of the Dragon in Beowulf In the Book of the Apocalypse, Rome is represented by several allegories: the beast of the land, the beast from the sea, the harlot, Babylon, and the dragon. The Beowulf poet also manipulates the dragon allegory to represent Rome, but his dragon represents not Rome, pure and simple, but a hostile area of the (former) Roman empire, the Romanized Britain or the Roman British . There is increasing consensus among critics against Tolkien s views that the dragonis a different sort of creature from the Grendel tribe (Gang 6) and that among the innumerable dragon stories there is probably not one which we can declare to be really identical with that of Beowulf (Chambers 97). Of course, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, there are several reasons for Beowulf s taking up of arms against the dragon: defense of the country, vengeance, and punishment: With his live coals the fiery dragon had utterly destroyed all the coastline and nation s impregnable fortress, the stronghold of that region; the warlike king, the prince of the Wederas, planned to take revenge on him for this (2333 36). Though the dragon is in many ways different from Grendel, he is in some ways very much like Grendel: he too hates the Geats and humbles them (2318 19); he, too, harms the Geats and even destroys the royal hall of Beowulf (2325 26), while Grendel is not allowed to approach Hrothgar s gifstol (168 169). The dragon, like Grendel (166 167), is also a ruler of the land only during dark nights (2210 11). Both have heathen associations: Grendel is heathen (852, 986); the dragon, though not called heathen specifically by the poet, guards, however, the treasure of the heathen (2276 77, 2216).[17] The poet indicates the quasi indigenous character of the dragon by saying that he has guarded the treasure for some three hundred years (2278 79); in other words, he is not merely a foreign force like Grendel Rome nor an intruder like the thief from the Germanic kingdom (2214 25). By limiting the dragon s presence on the British soil to three hundred years, the poet seems to suggest that the British themselves came from elsewhere as the Anglo Saxons ... • 3. Fraternal Twins Nature Vs Nurture Twins are a unique twist to life. Families are blessed with one pregnancy and two children. Twins open a portal for researchers to study the oldest debate in psychology; nature vs. nurture, a concept that seems to stump many and have few models to learn from. Essentially, there are two types of twins. There are identical twins, who are monozygotic, developing from a single fertilized egg, split. Then, there are fraternal twins, who come from two separate fertilized eggs, making them dizygotic. Identical twins share 100% of their DNA, practically making them clones; while fraternal twins share 50% DNA. When studying twins, many scientists use both identical and fraternal twins to analyze how the environment and genetic makeup can influence attitude... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Twin studies are vital for behavioral genetics in the sense that researchers can study how genetics can influence certain traits. For example, identical twins many be raised in the same household and both enjoy horseback riding, while a set of fraternal twins may not both enjoy horseback riding. The standard study conducted is based on twins raised in the same family environment, as this method can show how life experiences play a role. Many twins are raised in the same home and share a lot of the same experiences, which can impact their behavior, no matter the genetic makeup. A significant theory associated with twin studies is the Random Mating theory. In this theory, researchers tend to assume that people are as likely to choose partners who are different from themselves as they are to choose partners who are similar for a particular trait (2017). While twin studies are essential in gathering data for behavioral genetics, they can only estimate the heritability of a trait, while molecular genetics attempts to pinpoint the effects of a particular gene. While twins who grow up in a similar environment is the ideal method used, there are cases that involve twins who grew up in separate environments. In Joseph s (2014) piece, he reviews common facts and fallacies associated with studies on twins reared apart. It was found that, a particular study, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The strong connection between Canada and Britain is often used to define what Canada is. This relationship more or less determined what the people of Canada believed in, acted upon and looked up to. During this period, the lack of a clear identity put many Canadians in search of one. However, there were little in common between the Canadians across the nation. It has proved that the passage of time did little to mute cultural differences and [perhaps] deepened and intensified [the divisions]. It was apparent that appeals to a common language, a common cultural tradition, or a common religion were simply impossible for Canadians. This then prompted many people in Canada to find a way to establish Canadian nationalism, or simply define what being Canadian means. Although Canadians were struggling to find common ground in the initial stages after confederation, they presumed more or less that their day to day life would be carried out in accordance with the British model when the newcomers arrived. It was in people s conscience that an Anglo Canadian society modelled exclusively on a British mould was a possible option. During this period of confusion, the connection between Canada and Britain gave Canadians a sense of direction and provided a model that they could follow. • 9. Witches And The Witch Trials In Europe from the late fifteenth to early seventeenth centuries many people, both men and women, were persecuted as witches. The reasons for the persecution of individuals as witches included gender discrimination, religious fanaticism, an explanation for the otherwise unexplainable events that took place, and even as a way for secular officials to gain more wealth. Misogyny being a cause to the witch trials may have resulted from the new roles of women in society conflicting with the traditional views of women as sinful, and also accounts for why the majority of individuals persecuted were women. A religious spark was ignited during the Protestant Reformationas people became more religiously devoted and wanted to eliminate threats to their faith, such as witches. Many strange occurrences such as disease or even non harmful events that were simply unexplainable led people to believe witches as the causes. Some people may have not even believed another person to be a witch but may have just wanted wealth and that person s possessions and declared them a witch for that reason. All these factors contributed to the period now known as the witch craze, which resulted in the torture and death of many people. One of the main factors in the persecution of witches comes from the men of the time s misogynistic attitudes. During this time, women were beginning to take more prominent roles in society, like the notable humanist Christine de Pizan or The First Lady of the Renaissance, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Iliad Essay Divine Intervention is a direct and obvious intervention by a god or goddess in the affairs of humans . In various myths such as the Iliad, the Epic of Gilgamesh, and Herakles, divine intervention was called upon in order to restrain a hero s destructive or too powerful forces. Although the divine intervention was used to impair different heroes, the purpose to constrain was the same in all the narratives. Homer s The Iliad: Book XX features a battle between the Trojans and Achaians, shortly after Patroklus death (Lattimore Book XVI), where the gods must intervene in order to restrain Achilleus destructive nature that becomes amplified due to the grief and wrath as a result of the loss of his cousin/lover. It plays a main role in the beginning with the creation of Enkidu, the middle with Ishtar, and the end with the destruction of Enkidu. The gods first intervene when Gilgamesh s subjects call for help to them for the sake of the young women oppressed by the lord s right . The Great Mother Goddess creates Enkidu to stand up against Gilgmesh to stop his destructive nature that has terrorized his city (Dalley 39 50). Gilgamesh domesticates Enkidu and they create a friendship which turns Gilgamesh less destructive towards his citizens, thus limiting his destructive power and also focusing the remaining towards monsters; but together they make some wrong choices and their destructive natures are portrayed during the Cedar Forest incident and the killing of the bull of heaven (Dalley 83,102). For retribution of killing the bull that Ishtar had sent due to her rejection, Enkidu is destroyed by the gods; warning Gilgamesh that he isn t exempt from this fate if he continues being uncontrollable and tyrannical (Dalley 120 125). Euripides tragedy, Herakles, consistently portrays divine intervention as if it s a direct challenge between a divine figure, Hera, and a hero, Herakles. • 12. Explain How Asexual Reproduction Is Different From Sexual... 1. Explain how asexual reproduction is different from sexual reproduction. Asexual reproduction is different from seucal reproduction because it reproduces through mitosis which clones the cell and results in the new cells being identical to the parent cell. However, sexual reproduction takes 50% (about) of the chromosomes of each parent to create a new diploid (zygote) which creates genetic variation and could be advantageous to evolving/natural selection. 2. Explain what happens during crossing over and when it occurs in meiosis. Crossing over occurs in prophase I which is the first prophase of meiosis. Two chromosomes each from one parent can physically connect and share genetic information (creating a chiasma). As a result, genetic variation increases. 3. How is metaphase I different from metaphase of mitosis? Metaphase I is different from metaphase of mitosis because in metaphase I homologous pairs are being separated and pulled to the opposite ends of the cell by microtubules. However, in metaphase of mitosis, sister chromatids are being separated to opposite ends of the cell. 4. Explain why sexual reproduction increases variation among offspring much more than asexual reproduction does. Sexual reproduction ensures that the offspring will be a combination traits from both the parents. Some traits from both parents will be present (hopefully advantageous ones) and some traits will be inactive (disadvantageous ones). This increases variation because no diploid ... Upon her visit, her mind is flooded with memories of friendship, infidelity, and broken trust which inevitably disconnected her from Maya and Ben (Georgia s husband). Throughout the text, the author highlights the main character s inability to filter through many details as she describes the end of various relationships following Maya s betrayal. The author s thorough description of settings, characters, and events emphasizes Georgia s difficulty in focusing on what details of her life are important, as most of them seem important to her. The opening words of Alice Munro s Differently introduce the style the author uses throughout the short story: Georgia once took a creative writing course, and what the instructor told her was: Too many things. Too many things going on at the same time; also too many people [...] What do you want us to pay attention to? Think (Munro 1). These lines echo in the mind of the reader as they dive further into the text, reading about too many things and meeting too many people. The authors claim that there are several negative factors arising due to the past sixteen years of war against several state and non state elements, inferior cultural differences of government bureaucracycompared to commercial firms, and a misallocation of defense spending that leaves the US militarywaging war inefficiently while simultaneously losing technological dominance against current and future threats.... • 22. The s Expulsion Of Adam And Eve From Eden Humanity as depicted by artists reflects the values of a society. Different ages have held different perspectives on humanity. These varying perspectives are displayed through the creation of each artist, writer, and composer. An era is described by what is produced in it; therefore, the ideas about humanity displayed in each piece of artwork are the same ideas that shaped a particular era. By examining components of the various pieces produced in an era, one can determine the majority view of humanity during that time and trace the shifts in society s perspective. As time has progressed, art transformed from having specific moral meaning to having purely subjective meaning. During the Renaissance, art focused on biblical scenes portraying Christian ideals. While this is nothing unusual, it is key in determining what values people in that era appreciated. The theme that begins to emerge in the early Renaissance is the psychological state of the people depicted. Masaccio s Expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden is one of the earlier examples. The couple is clearly distraught and ashamed of their sin as they trudge out of the garden. Brunelleschi and Ghiberti also follow this idea in their works by the same name, The Sacrifice of Isaac. Both sculptors characters convey varying emotions of this sacrifice through position and expression. Masaccio s The Holy Trinity depicts the pain and agony at the cross with an emphasis on Jesus instead of Mary. Donatello s sculptures of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Roughly about one out of every four U.S children under the age of 18 is exposed to the effects of alcohol abuse or dependence (athealth.com). The issues that are brought upon the child is that they believe they are the ones who caused the whole situation. They grow up having little moral support by either parent causing them to do poorly in school and becoming a troublemaker . The kids that had an alcohol problem in their family had similar symptoms like low self esteem, loneliness, guilt, feeling of helplessness, fears of abandonment and chronic depression (Heffner Tetyana). When the child is younger they do not properly understand what is going on, making them fear the outcomes that could occur when the alcoholic parent is drunk. Sacrifice, portrayed at its highest, on life or death situations where every character feels torn between two options that may affect someone in one way or another, as well when someone will die for the safety of others. Juvenile crime has many factors that influences the United States and makes people want to stop it. Juvenile crime is an issue that needs to be stopped. Juvenile crimecan be a danger to many people. Juvenile crime had a strong uprising when conditions within the society got worse. Research over the past few decades on normal child development and development on delinquent behavior has shown that individual, social, and community conditions and interactions influence behavior(McCord). This says that in bad environments in the community the children that live there are more likely to be an individual with juvenile delinquency. Clearly, genes affect biological development, but there is no biological development without environmental input, Bock and Goode (McCord, 66). This quote says that environmental interaction develops kids, so kids that interact with a bad environment can end up in a worse position than other kids [what other kids? Kids from a good environment? JMH]. The age can influence whether or not a child will be a juvenile delinquent. Studies of criminal activity by age constantly find that rates of offending begin to rise in pre adolescence or early adulthood(McCord). This says that juvenile crime usually starts when the children are teens or entering their puberty years. This can be a big deal because that age is usually when kids are influenced more easily. The percentage of boys who self reported serious delinquent behavior rose from 5 percent at age 6 to about 18 percent at age 16 for whites and 27 percent for blacks at age 16. Loeber (McCord,68). This says that delinquent behavior and crime rose for each race at the age of 16. The family influence also plays a big role for a child if the child is going to be a delinquent or not. When families have difficulties with the task laid on them, the product often is a juvenile delinquent.(McCord) This says that parents with no care in how their child ends up will have their child become a juvenile delinquent. This essay will identify and examine the significance of the Roman Catholic Church s influence and governance over Europe throughout the Middle Ages. For the purposes of this essay, the Middle Ages refers to the period between the Conversion of Constantine in 313CE and the onset of the Renaissance Period during the early 14th century. In addition, this essay will examine and account for change in the institution and theology of the Roman Catholic Church. It will identify the nature and importance of continuity and the diversity of causes and outcomes of the Church s influence through a range of historical perspectives. Since the conversion of Constantine in 313CE, Christianity transformed from a persecuted, unorganized group of believers into a hierarchical, European dominating institution over the course of the Middle Ages. Developing alongside the changing political environment of post Roman Europe, the Roman Catholic Church became the single most dominant institution in medieval life, its influence pervading almost every aspect of people s lives. Catholicism influenced the calendar, significant events and rituals such as baptism, confirmation, marriage and penance, and mainstream spiritual and ethical beliefs. Most people were fully convinced of the validity of the church s teachings and believed that only the faithful would avoid hell and gain eternal salvation in heaven. I ll be using three songs from popular culture that focus on homelessness. Different artists perform these three songs: Avril Lavigne, Bob Dylan, and Nirvana. I m going to address the values that people who are homeless may have, according to what each artist conveys through their song lyrics. Throughout the lyrics in each song, it seems like the artists are attempting to communicate to the public that homelessness is a serious issue that nobody is immune to. The values that I have gathered are bravery, hope, and perseverance. I have chosen this topic because over half a million people are homeless, the government has limited resources to help those who are homeless, and some cities are making homelessness illegal. This topic is important to me because nobody is immune to homelessness, which is terrifying and unfortunate. There are several theories to who it could be, most are males but there is still a little doubt that could have been a woman, maybe both? The only thing that is known for sure these women were victims of him or her. Jack The Ripperwas known for the way he murder, he left cuts on both sides of the neck and made the knees or legs of the women up towards her chest or in the air; in some cases he would destroy the body so bad that it was hard to identify who the victim was. One of the only reasons police knew who the victims were in because Jack would write notes to the police office or the newspaper company telling them who was killing next but not when. Jack The Ripper was a man of pattern and rountie. His killings were all almost alike and his victims had profiles that matched each other s. Jack had five victims, who were all women; the women had a couple things in common, all but one of the women were in their 40s, they were all drinkers, and most of the five women were known to be in the business of prostitution. All five victims were found dead in poorly lit alley ways or stairways, with their necks cut on either side and other lacerations throughout the body. According to Josh Clark, this is what happened to the five victims of Jack The Ripper. Mary Nichols was the first victim, found on August 31, 1888 at 3:45am. She was found in a narrow side street of Buck s Row in the Whitechapel; she had an eight inch laceration to her throat that cut both of her major arteries and she had violent cuts on her abdomen. • 43. The Effect Of Concentration On Enzymatic Activity Of... Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase Rose Cruz Arapahoe Community College The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). Amylase is an enzyme responsible for breaking down starch into sugars. It is hypothesized that a lower concentration of amylase would cause the breakdown of starch to take a longer period of time or a slower reaction rate as opposed to a higher concentration of amylase. The results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for the enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). The same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other factors stay the same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be as the enzyme breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic activity increasing or decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active sites available for a reaction to occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman, 2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals. Depending on what solution was used and how the amylase broke down the starch, the color change was noted over time. Due to the information about how concentration affects the reaction rate of an enzyme and substrate, we figured that a lower concentration of amylase would cause a slower reaction rate meaning that with a ... • 45. A Polar Disorder Is A Serious Mental Affliction Bi Polar Disorder is a serious mental affliction that has been and is being neglected severely. It is one of those illness that can change someone s life drastically. It is important to know the history of it, how it s diagnosed, how it s treated, and what are the signs that someone needs help. Bringing awareness to this affliction may prevent someone s harm or death, or better yet allow someone to know when they need help. Manic Depression Illness, or Bi Polar Disorder as we know it, was said to have been officially discussed as a disorder in a lecture given by French psychiatrist and neurologist Jules Gabriel Francois Baillarger. He described it as la folie ГЎ double forme , or the dual form insanity. This term fit perfectly seeing as in earlier medical journals from almost every ancient culture, for example: the Greeks, they mention patience suffering from both mania and melancholia. The first and earliest official standard diagnosis, however, came from a different French physician and psychiatrist named Jean Pierre Falret. Falret published an article describing the disorder as la folie circulaire , or the circular depression. Although Falret was published first, both theories came around in the 1850s. Bi Polar disorder is a mental illness characterized by alternating periods of elation, depression, and/or anger. Although there is no definite cause, there are many things that can trigger or activate it. One of the most common source is genetics. This disorder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Comparing the Journeys of Hesse s Siddhartha and Gandhi Essay Siddhartha and Gandhi strove for different goals during their lives. Siddhartha s goal was very personal, while Gandhi s goal encompassed the world. This was shown by their spiritual development throughout their journeys. Siddhartha evolved from an inexperienced spiritual being to a man, returned to spirituality, and ended with nirvana. Gandhi traveled a much straighter path, originally being a worldly man merely seeking his correct place in life, when his spiritual development unexpectedly produced a great world leader; in Gandhi s own words, a politician trying to be a saint. Siddhartha and Gandhi s main goals were always different, but they traveled similar paths at times. Siddhartha s goal was to find nirvana. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Siddhartha accordingly sought to lose himself, but only succeeded in returning to himself. At this point, Siddhartha, the self centered thinker, re evaluated his path to nirvana. He came to the conclusion that all teachings were useless, that he would have to find his own way to the state of higher being. He expressed this to the Samanas, and to the Illustrious One, Buddha, whose teachings his faithful shadow, Govinda, accepted. To nobody, O Illustrious One, can you communicate in words and teachings what happened to you in your hour of enlightenment (Hesse 34). At this point, Siddhartha rejected all doctrines and teachings, believing experience to be the only true teacher, and set off on his quest again. Free of all thought and all connections but of those to himself, Siddhartha crossed a river, and entered the town. Here was where Siddhartha gained the experience he had never before had. He believed himself to have no teacher of doctrines or wisdom, but Kamala, the courtesan, and Kamaswami, the merchant, eroded his morals and all the wisdom he had learned from other s lips, as they taught him how to sin, how to lust for women, wine, possessions, and money. Siddhartha became a man, and eventually forgot his goal of spiritual nirvana, gradually replacing it with a more common goal; worldly nirvana, fashioned of wealth and other material pleasures.
