Essay about Failures in a Distributed System
Failures in a Distributed System Paper Phyllis Lenoir POS/355 November 19, 2012 Asho Rao A
distributed system is an application that executes a collection of protocols to coordinate the actions
of multiple processes on a network, where all component work together to perform a single set of
related tasks. A distributed system can be much larger and more powerful given the combined
capabilities of the distributed components, than combinations of stand alone systems. But it s not
easy for a distributed system to be useful, it must be reliable. This is a difficult goal to achieve
because of the complexity of the interactions between simultaneously running components. A
distributed system must have the following characteristics: *... Show more content on

Four types of failures that can occur in a distributed system are: * Halting failures: A component
simply stops. There is no way to detect the failure except by timeout: it either stops sending I m
alive (heartbeat) messages or fails to respond to requests. Your computer freezing is a halting
failure. * Omission failures: Failure to send/receive messages primarily due to lack of buffering
space, which causes a message to be discarded with no notification to either the sender or
receiver. This can happen when routers become overloaded. * Network failures: A network link
breaks. * Timing failures: A temporal property of the system is violated. For example, clocks on
different computers which are used to coordinate processes are not synchronized when a
message is delayed longer than a threshold period, etc. www.code.google.com Timing failures
there is suspicion of a possible failure related to the motherboard. This can be a result of a
specific message strongly implicating the motherboard in some sort of erratic system behavior. It
may also be the case that the motherboard probably isn t the problem, but that we want to rule it
out as a possible cause. Since the motherboard is where all the other components meet and
connect, a bad motherboard can affect virtually any other part of the PC. For this reason the
motherboard must often be checked to ensure it is working properly, even if it is unlikely to be the
cause of whatever is

Differences Between The Dishonest And Movie In The Movie...
Beowulf Beowulf is epic poem that has been passed down since the Anglo Saxon era Britain.
The story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very
great things in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life.
Recently Hollywood recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was
drastically changed in many ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these
changes when the story was already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all
were added to the movie because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the
movie as easily. In the epic poem Beowulfis made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie
they show him as a dishonest and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where
Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of
him fighting the sea monsters he remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to
actually tell the people about this incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs,
when he first comes to Denmark he messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he
has an affair with a younger maiden, this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t
mention anything about Beowulf having any dishonesty. Another major difference between the
poem and the movie is the fact that Grendel s mother is never slain in the

Justice In The Honey Boy
Somebody said : Between friends there is no need for justice but according to what happened in
the story we can tell; between friends the justice has been stolen .in the honey boy , althoug
Honey boy was his best friend ,Big blue kills him to be rewarded .His greed leads him to commit
that legal crime due to the instructions of the police departments . 10,000 $ to turn in the Honey
Boy dead or alive .That is an insane scencs that could happen between friends .I am not at all
convinced that the mother s action was right.I entirely dissagree with the mother s actions in the
Honey Boy for many reasons . First of all , Money doe not come by a day and a night .The

criminals. While some people are of the opinion that it would be useful to identify the victim by
the mother ,i beleive that was a faulty decision by the sheriff .In this case she was trying to take a

And while I m at it I d just like to say that the Soundtrack and background music is both corny
and....not very good. Out of the 10 Songs used in the movie only 1 is decent (Don t You Forget
About Me by Simple Minds) and even I don t like it while the rest of the songs to say the least
are quite rubbish unless you absolutely LOVED both the movie and the 80 s music scene then
you d probably not like it. In my own opinion I believe that this movie is run on its own
characterization as it IS about stereotypes at school. I d like to start on describing my personal
favourite character of the movie, John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson). John Bender is a
stereotypical Criminal/Rebel complete with Denim Jacket, Leather Gloves and a Bandana. He
talks with confidence as he says what he pleases to either to annoy or anger others for his own
amusement and when he has to, stand up for what/who he believes in. Judd Nelson acted out the
character of John brilliantly as you can really imagine Judd in real life truly acting this way as he
has given such a realistic performance that is both entertaining and true. I believe that without the
character of John Bender, The Breakfast Club as a movie would really be missing that extra punch
that made it such a hit with all his funny comebacks and entertaining scenes lead by Bender. Claire

Determining the Underlying Causes of Asthma Essay
Asthma is the most common worldwide chronic condition that affects both young and old. It is a
condition in which the air way passages are narrowed leading to symptoms of wheezing, shortness
of breath, chest tightness, and cough (Bijanzadeh, Mahesh, Nallur 1). Asthma is caused by
increased infiltration of inflammatory cells into the airway, constriction, airway smooth muscle
hypertrophy, and mucous hypersecretion in the bronchiolar walls of the lung (Bijanzadeh, Mahesh,
Nallur 1). Most asthmaattacks are short, a few minutes to a few hours, and the person recovers
completely this is called episodic asthma disease. However, those who have acute severe asthma is
much more serious because the asthma attacks lasts for days or weeks, and... Show more content on

As the people involved in this study observed the degree of expression of asthma within genetically
similar populations they discovered that asthma between children of similar genetic ancestry that
live in different environments have significant differences in prevalence rates (Subbarao,
Mandhane, and Sears 182). The results included Chinese children who lived in China had a lower
prevalence rate, Chinese who were born in China but migrated to Canada had an intermediate rate,
and Chinese students who were born and lived in Canada had the greatest prevalence rate
(Subbarao, Mandhane, and Sears 182). In addition, the non Chinese children living in Canada still
had a greater prevalence rate compared to the Chinese children living there (Subbarao, Mandhane,
and Sears 182). This result from this study strongly supports their hypothesis of gene by
environment interactions in which people with similar genetic makeup inherit sensitivity to the
effects of various environmental risk factors.
However on the other hand whether genetics plays an important role in the development of asthma
has been strongly accepted as numerous family and twin studies have been made. Genome wide
linkage studies and case control studies have identified 18 genomic regions and more than 100
genes associated with allergy and asthma in 11 different populations (Subbarao, Mandhane, and

Research Paper On Red Wolf
Over the course of the past few weeks, students have presented topics regarding pollution and
endangerment of species. However, one of the three most interesting topics for me was the red
wolf. This name is very peculiar, for you would expect it to be more scientific. However, it s sad
story just makes the name look irrelevant. The red wolf has been hunted down by early settlers,
making it s wildlife population to be fourteen. That is shocking, for this unique animal is suffering
because of our needs. However, the thing that caught my eye was not it s dire situation, but the fact
that people are working to help this animal thrive. The Red Wolf Recovery Program oversees the
health of this animal. Now, they are breeding them in captivity and

Matthew Chapter 5
The Gospels of Matthew and Luke
Matthew chapter five is a sermon by Jesus. It tells us what perspective we ought to have in
dealings with each other and with our attitude. Those who are weak shall be strong, and those who
mourn shall be comforted tell of positive actions or humility being rewarded. Jesus goes through a
list of these, exalting the poor and the weak. Mt. 5:17 20 is between the first section of what
actions are righteous and before the section of what seem to be his own version of commandments
relative to the law. It says that all shall be done and judged through and by him. So he gave a
perspective on the humble and then judged the law. He tells people to be righteous and then tells
them the manner in which to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He had great authority, and he was supremely obedient. He had power, but was humble and
served to glorify God with that power. He was depicted as one who s every action was oriented
towards doing the will of God. It is a standard that Matthew gives to nobody else.
First of all, Matthew was a Jew who was convinced that the messiah had come. Many of his
writings were Jewish, for that reason. However, he took issue with Jewish leadership and the
blinding methods they used. He used this perspective and wrote anti Jewish versus. Matthew
respected and looked positively upon Jewish Law and much of the Oral Torah. He did not like
what was going on in Yavneh, though. The way the rabbis there were defining these laws was
not consistent with how he saw the law. He saw the Pharisees as hypocrites who did not have his
perspective on what was going on in the world. For this reason, he rejected the emerging authority
of the rabbis at Yavneh. He was also afraid of those who claimed his own heritage but were leading
the Jewish people blindly. The purpose of Matthew s gospelwas to, tell the story of how the
coming of the Messiah has inaugurated a new phase in the history of God s people and to
explain how they were expected to live in that new age. (Barr) Luke saw the death of Jesus as
another step in an upward progression to glory for Christ. It was a necessary occurrence in order to
fulfill the scriptures. It

In a community of five thousand damp souls (Guterson 5) as described by David Guterson in his
novel, Snow Falling on Cedars. A community that concentrated a variety of ethnicity, among them
was both Whites and Japanese. As a result of the racial differences, racism has came into
existences and have impacted the life of both children and adult in that isolated island called San
Piedro. It is responsible for the internment of Kabuo, Hatsue, and their families, the breakup of
Hatsue and Ishmael, Kabuo s loss of his land, and perhaps for his indictment for murder.
Before the war years, Kabuo s father, Zenhichi made an illegal agreement with the victim s father,

Now that all the evidences had turned against Kabuo, it has made others to focus mainly on
Kabuo, and think that he is behind of all this. Later on, abroad Kabuo s ship Art Moran n the
mooring rope and fishing gaff with the victim s blood on it. With all those evidences it would have
proven Kabuo to be the murderer, but new evidences came into existences to overturn the entire
situation and twisted the case as of being an accident rather than a first degree murder case. If it
wasn t for prejudice this trail would never has gone so far or would never had happened in the first
place.
The internment of Kabuo, Hatsue and the rest of their family are mainly because the U.S
governments are being racist toward Japanese. They government did not trust the Japanese
because they feared that among them were spies, even thou they swore to be loyalty to the U.S.
Some of them even stand up to fight for the U.S against their home country to demonstrated their
loyalty, because they believed that they are America and no longer consider as Japanese. But the
U.S took no consideration on whether they are loyal or not and placed them into internment camp
for safety purpose. I believed that it s not necessary to have internment camps, it is basically
useless and a waste of money and time, because if the Japanese were to have spies, they wouldn t

King Louis XIV Meaning
King Louis XIV is a regal king who values order and beauty; That is why he should purchase
PoussinВґs painting to represent his reign. PoussinВґs painting is full of order and unity; yet it
shows complete control of emotion through angles and lines. Making it the clear choice for a
representation of our king s reign. One of the largest struggles for a monarch is overcoming
emotion; yet showing emotions like love and compassion when they are needed. PoussinВґs
painting has the same show of emotion that a king needs and that King Louis XIV has. Nadera
Suleiman said, ВЁControl of emotions or lack of control causes empires to flourish or fall.ВЁ The
compositional symmetry in PoussinВґs painting shows control; Poussin has perfected the art of
directing the eye to where the emotion that is needed is shown. Every time a conversation is
had, there is a blending, or merging of ideas and opinions. A weak king would try to stop this
mixing from happening, thinking that he will loose his people to new ideas or places. Suleiman
states that the painting by Poussin ВЁdepicts different scenes over a period of time.ВЁ King Louis
XIV sees the importance of a multicultural society. He sees the importance of new ideas and new

Radical Feminism Versus Liberal Feminism
Feminist theories are an extension of feminism into theoretical and philosophical discourse. They
aim at understanding of the nature of gender inequality .They in turn examine women s social roles
and life experiences .While in general some provide a critique of social relationships .Most feminist
theories also focus on analysing gender inequality and the promotion of women s rights, interests
and issues .Among such theories are the Liberal feminismand the Radical feminism theories. While
Liberal and Radical feminism both seek to ensure that women have access to resources and human
rights in a gender equal environment they however do not necessarily employ similar methods in
achieving these results. Each has its own distinct reason behind... Show more content on

The main perpetrators being male. They identify patriarch as a system of power that organises
society into a complex of relationships based on an assumption of males being the more superior
of the sexes. The end result in such societies is the oppression of women by men .Radical
feminists identify only one solution, to challenge and completely overthrow patriarchy by
whatever means possible .Including opposing standard gender roles. Whatever they see as male
oppression of women calls for a reordering of society , Wikipedia the internet free dictionary.
Liberal feminists generally work for the eradication of institutional bias and the implication of
better laws. They legally challenge ideas and practices that result in women being seen as second
class citizens. They do not challenge capitalism, patriarchy or any other fundamental structures of
society. They advocate for transformational changes. Liberal feminists wish to achieve gender
equality by working with the system rather than over throwing it , for example liberals do not call
for the abolishment of the marriage institution instead they want the institution to be structured in
such a way that it is not oppressive and imbalanced . In contrast Radicals are extremists and they
strongly believe in a revolutionary change. Radicals on the left wing according to Henslin (1995)
believe that subjugation of women is the most basic and fundamental cause of oppression. Radicals
therefore believe

A Biological Catalyst Essay
A Biological Catalyst A Biological catalyst is a catalyst that is produced organically. In other
words, a cell makes it. It is usually a protein or steroid molecule that works to catalyse a specific
reaction. For example, amylaseis a biological catalyst. Biological catalysts are called enzymes.
Reactions take energy to get them started. This energy is called the activation energy. Enzymes

Salivary amylase is an enzyme that breaks down big molecules into smaller ones. Amylase enzyme
breaks starch molecules up into two residue units (a residue is a glucose molecule, or monomer of

glucose molecules split off from the starch molecule form maltose. This maltose is the product of
catalytic action by the enzyme amylase on the substrate. The substrate is the starch.

main types of enzyme. Digestive enzymes are extracellular enzymes they control reactions that take

Through the conversation yesterday about the book Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto my
understanding of the novel was changed drastically. I felt that by everyone in the group talking

perspectives of the questions asked. The main question that I had a different view on after the

Throughout the book Kitchen By Banana Yoshimotothe reader follows a girl named Mikage who
struggles with the death of her loved ones and tries to overcome them. The reader learns the
methods she uses to persevere through with the problems in her life and the way she and her
friends try to get through it. Banana Yoshimoto uses the motif of lightand darkness in her work to
contrast the characters outward expressions with their internal emotions.
The usage of the motif of light in the book is vast enough to be spoken about on its own in the
first paragraph, which will prove the thesis by giving an example of how with the motif of light
can relate to the characters emotions shown greatly. The significance of this point is to give a
clear example of what some of the motifs of light are in the book. The quote is said by Mikage.
At this point of time in the book, Yuichi had just come to visit her after her grandmother had
passed away. When was it I realized that, on this dark and solitary path we all walk, the only way
we can light is our own (pg.21) The literary device being used in the first quote is imagery due to
the fact that the author is creating an image in the reader s head like when she said dark and
solitary path we all walk . This literary device enhances the main idea by giving the reader a
physical description of what is going on.
This paragraph will discuss one more example of the motif of light in Yoshimoto s work. This will

Risk Assessment Of Software And Mobile Application
Abstract
This is completed after the first final draft has been completed
The rate of technology changes is faster than ever. The new cutting edge technologies in software
world solve many problems and make our life easy. At the same time, they provide many unseen
risk. We need to ensure that steps taken and technology used to build software or mobile
application do not create additional risk in future. Most risk analysis process is based on
theoretical concept to identify and assesses the risk. In this paper we analysis two formula based
risk analysis approaches in mobile and software application namely WHYPER framework and
DempsterSchafer theory.

Software and mobile applications are integral part of everyday life. With globalization, the 24x7
accessibility of data has increased the threat of data loss because attackers are always ready to
steal your data. Software that we are using, internet banking using a network, a smart phone that we
use for calling and texting, storing data at cloud etc involves risk.
Data is a big factor of risk in software and mobile usage. Many researchers investigated lifecycle of
risk analysis and risk management. With the growing technology in mobile and software
applications the traditional risk management does not solve all the problems associated with
modern security attacks. Many small scale organizations do not implement the risk lifecycle for
software or mobile application because implementing risk assessment is costly.
As a result, not only the organizations which have developed the applications the individual who
use them can fall prey to attackers. The IT organization as well as customer poses a great risk.
In risk analysis my primary goal is to identify the sources of risk, impact of risk as well as
assessing these risks in software and mobile application devices from organization to individual
level. The next step is to estimate the uncertainty and complete the risk analysis model.
Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to study the risk analysis and risk management of software
and mobile device

How Did Louis Jacques Thenard Make Hydrogen Peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound that is composed of two hydrogens and two
oxygens. This mixture is known to be the simplest type of peroxide, and it is used as an oxidizer,
a bleaching agent and an antiseptic. Louis Jacques Thenard was the first to identify hydrogen

Speech In Tamburlaine
In order to understand the treatment of the set speech in Marlowe s Tamburlaine it is necessary
to consider the play as a whole. In most of Marlowe s plays there is a central issue to which all
subsidiary issue are related. In Tamburlaine the central issue of the play is an idea. The
representative of this idea is the hero himself round whom the whole action and all the other
characters revolve.
The characters of the plays written before Marlowe s time gave the impression that they would
take every opportunity for turning a given situation into an occasion for long and lively
declamation and the delivery of set speech. Yet, for Tamburlaine, the set speech is a condition of
his existence. This means that in what Tamburlaine is concerned there is a close relationship
between the speaker and his speeches.

every line by the individuality of this character. In previous plays, the monologue had usually
combined its expository function with that of reinforcing the moral of the whole play. In
Tamburlaine is in a much fuller sense a means of self expression because the moral in Tamburlaine

Springfield Nor easters Case
#1 Evaluate the research survey undertaken by the League Sports Association and by Larry
Buckingham, Nor easters marketing director. Consider each step in the process that led to the
findings of the survey
Buckingham started his research by using the League Sports Association survey done in
2005 and confirmed that families with school age children were more likely to attend sporting
events. He also found that 73% of the audience of baseball games had an income ranging from
$22,500 to $75,000. This information was useful however Buckingham had done this only to
confirm some of the anecdotal findings listed in the local newspaper. He knew that just a
newspaper article and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means the Buckingham can assume that 21,582 people will at least come once in the season.
Another take away is that Buckingham has a good idea of what customers are willing to pay for a
ticket. Most customers are not willing to pay more for premium seating and are willing to pay
between $10 $14 per game. The market for single ticket buying is the biggest and it is assumed that
attendees are attending in substitution of other entertainment options and pricing has to be set as
such. There is only a small amount of market for the full season tickets and lowering the price of
tickets will be necessary to increase demand. However, concession will make up for the lowering
of the ticket price.
#3 What considerations should the Nor easters take into account in establishing a pricing policy?
The few consideration that need to be addressed in establishing a pricing policy are tickets and
concessions revenue at each price point, attendance at each price point, and the discounts offered
amongst different price points. As addressed in the next previous question assumptions of how
many people will eventually go to each game is key to establishing a price.
However, if no one goes at all there is no reasonable price that can compensate for lack of
attendance. Competing with other forms of entertainment such as movies and bowling is also
important to consider.

Acoustic Environment Within Fice
Task 1A: Acoustic environment within the office: the office should be a quite tranquil place to
allow concentration levels to excel on the workers behalf. This can be created by using things
like sound proof glass and insulation and having heavy duty soundproof doors. However I do
not believe these actions will be needed as the office block is located in quite a rural and quiet
area in itself. However there will be some steps taken to ensure the tranquillity of the offices such
as the insulation being sound proof. Another factor would be that the walls must be thick to allow
little sound in the office from the surrounding area to allow more concentration. Essentially 35
decibels of sound would be an optimum noise level this is like the same level of acoustics in a
library. Things like the printer and the other machines can effect noise levels but keeping them in a
separate room can prevent them from becoming a distraction. Also the customers of the shop below
could create noise but good insulation will prevent this to a certain degree.
Thermal environment within the office: the thermal factors of the office block should be a constant
comfortable heat this allows the workers to concentrate a lot better and results in a better work
environment. This can be accomplished by underground heating using heated pipes under a
carpeted office block. Also insulation will be needed to a high degree which will allow the room to
remain at the constant temperature desired I mentioned

Summary Of Louis Ck Selfishness
ABSTRACT:
Everyone around you behaving selfishly essentially leads to a world of mayhem. Louis C.K. a
well known comedian shares his experiences and stories of selfishness and how it affects the
world around you whether it may make sense or not. Although he begins to get a bit over bearing
as he describes what Gods reaction would be it allows the audience to truly recognize their
mistakes and the mistakes of others. By using logo and pathos Louis successfully shares that a
world of selfishness is dangerous and not in the common good for everyone. The true solution to
selfishness would be to restrain yourself from acting selfish and preventing the world to come to a
crazy state.
Oscar Wilde once said. Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live; it is asking others to live
as one wishes to live. Throughout Selfishness (88Tonio88, 25 3 13) a comedy routine carried out
by Louis C.K. he begins to describe how it is difficult to stray from a selfish path. As he speaks
he shows acceptance that selfishness is something that cannot be rid of completely but one can
learn how to deal with it. It would be mayhem if everyone [acted that way] Louis describes.
Selfishness is acting how you d prefer others to act as well.

teenager. A now resident... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

CASE STUDY UNDERSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN RETAILING: The case of Omega
Supermarkets
Background
Omega is a successful company and one of the largest supermarket chains in the UK, employing
a large number of staff in stores across the country. Although the industry has seen very little
growth in recent years, Omega has successfully increased its market share through a policy of
lowering prices (the company claims to have reduced prices by 7.5 per cent between 2004 2009)
and improving customer service. It currently holds a dominant share of the UK market in its core
business and is growing rapidly in related areas. The company plans to continue expanding in the
UK, opening up new stores on brownfield sites in regeneration areas.
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A more recent change within Omega has been the drive for consistency across stores, and all
policies, procedures and processes are centrally determined and their implementation closely
monitored. Each store is governed by the company routines handbook which provides detailed
information on how every task is to be performed this is down to the minutest detail even
including details on office layout, such as where pictures should go on the wall. On the HR side
all policies and procedures are highly centralised and controlled the wage budget for example is
fixed for each store and there is no local flexibility on pay something which was obviously a cause
for great frustration in some of the stores where recruitment, retention and staff quality are on going
major problems. Although the stores cannot function without these routines it is the way in which
the rules and routines are implemented that is considered a key ingredient for success. It is
management, in particular, store managers, who are responsible for how policies are implemented
and their behaviour is therefore critical to a store s performance.
Section managers occupy first line manager position within the store. Spans of control (The
number of subordinates who report directly to a given manager or superior), are normally 12
general assistants to each section manager and in a large store there may be about 20 section

Comparing the Concentrations of Saturated Solutions...
In this lab, lab 4.3 Comparing the Concentrations of Saturated Solutions, we set out to find and
compare the solubilities of two solids in water. In addition, we tested if solubility is a
characteristic property of a solid in a given liquid. This lab allowed us to test and use a reliable
way to measure the solubility of a solid. This lab can be replicated for any solid with the same
procedure, thus it gives us a method to calculate solubility. The two solids we tested in this
experiment were NaCl (Sodium Chloride) and NaNO3 (Sodium Nitrate). To begin the experiment,
we measured 5cc of water and 5g of NaCl and added them to a test tube. Next, we stoppered the
test tube and shook vigorously for two or three minutes. After we observed that... Show more

Six of the ten sodium chloride groups found the solubility of sodium chloride to be statistically 36g
/100cc of water, with a +3g/100cc margin of error. Three of the four groups outside this margin of
error had solubilities in the forties, 42, 48, 49g/100cc. These three groups made an experimental
error that altered their results and can be excluded from our analysis of data. Another group was in
the low thirties with 30g/100cc. Yet the beginning masses that compose the solubility equations do
differ. For example, one group found that the mass of their solution was 4.21 grams, but another
recorded a mass of 5.47 grams. When it comes to the mass of the solid (solute) the former
recorded a mass of 1.11 grams, the latter reported a mass of 1.38 grams. Nonetheless, they came
out with the same solubility of 34 grams per 100 cc of water. Thus we can prove that that
solubility is a characteristic property. This is because every group started with a different mass of
solution and solid, but they concluded with the same solubility (given the +3 gram margin of error
and excluding outliers) or were close. Therefore, solubility is a characteristic property. Of the eight
sodium nitrate groups three of them found statistically, with a +3g margin of error, 86g/100cc as
the solubility of sodium nitrate in water. Another group calculated the solubility to be 82, which is
just below the margin of error. Two of the eight groups

The sun climbed up the sky, shining the fields a brilliant golden. The barley stalks waved

On the other side of the field, the ranch was overshadowed by the large and strong Gabilans. A

Essay On The Last Of The Mohicans
The Last of The Mohicans was an enjoyable book to read. The book kept me interested and there
was difficulty to put it down. The book made the backdrop enjoyable and it fashioned a difficult
terrain for the characters to transverse. The vegetation provides a worthy advisory for both the
natives and whites to cross and provided cover for both sides. The characters not only fight against
themselves, but, also nature was fought against during the conflict and the fact that the author
described it in a fantastic way. This helps set the mood when the runner was meant, and when they
traveled through the backs of the woods. The description of the runner peaked my curiosity,
labeling him as a specter in the woods. The book showed that frontier life was hard and
unforgiving place. The first couple of chapters seemed dawdling. The author lost me when he went
into elongated historical definitions and discussions this agitated and disconcerted me. Although, it
started slow I soon found it hard to put down the book. The author could generate tension in the
story, which is why could not put the book down. The book is far different from the movie; to me

American Foreign Policy Since World War 2
Background to U.S Foreign Policy
In their book American Foreign Policy since World War 2, Steven W. Hook, and John Spanier
take a historical look at American foreign policy. Since its independence, all through to the start of
the 20th century, the United States had a policy of detachment. This was rooted in the believe that
Europe, the only other meaningful powerful in the world in the 18th and 19th century, had
intrinsic issues related to feudism that kept the continent in a constant state of war (Hook
Spanier, 2015). The U.S on its part was far away from Europe and had a unique chance to chart a
different course, one free from the troubles of Europe. As a democracy free from the class systems
of Europe and hence maintain peace and stability (Hook Spanier, 2015). To maintain this peace and
stability, it was in the United States interests to maintain detachment from Europe. In fact,
Monroe wrote that Europe and its flawed system was evil and America should strive as much as
possible to stay away from it (Hook Spanier, 2015). However, in the 20th century, this policy of
detachment was put to the test when the United States was drawn into the first and second world
wars by external factors. This led the United States to get more engaged in global affairs. The
idea behind engagement was to promote the ideals of democracy which, the U.S believed were
the pillars of peace, as well as to protect itself from aggressors like Japan in the Second World War.

Eurotunnel Vs. The Ferries Case Summary
Eurotunnel vs. the Ferries Case Analysis
Marketing Problem:
The main problem faced by Eurotunnel s senior management is that they have not developed a
competitive pricing strategy to increase its passenger and freight travel market share.
Case Solution:
Eurotunnel should use a market penetration pricing strategy at all times to gain freight customers. It
should use a market penetration pricing strategy during non peak periods and a premium pricing
strategy during peak periods with passenger car customers.
Rationale:
This strategy works best for Eurotunnel to gain market share for three main reasons: * Passenger
preference among Le Shuttle users * Patterns among peak travelers * Price elasticity of freight
traffic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the common peak travel periods, Eurotunnel will be able to compete on its capacity and
speed competencies rather than price.
Freight users in general go out of their way to get the lowest cost of trip and are very price
elastic. Since trucking companies would take a longer ferry route in order to reduce the cost, it
can be inferred that by offering a cost even slightly below that of ferries at all times to freight
transporters, Le Shuttle will be their preferred choice. By entering the market with a price lower
than the ferries, the trucking companies, which have an estimated price elasticity of demand of 3 to
4, will flock to the lower price and will unlikely ever return to the higher priced provider. Paired
with other factors valued by the truckers, it is likely that a low price offer from the tunnel would
quickly make it the first choice in channel crossing among truckers themselves as well as trucking
companies.
Eurotunnel will be able to support the increase in customers as well as the market penetration
pricing strategy. Eurotunnel currently has the capacity to accommodate 105% of the channel
crossing market. Thus, even in peak periods, Eurotunnel will be capable of accommodating the
influx of passengers without compromising on schedules or service. Eurotunnel also has low
marginal cost per customer, operating

The Function Of The Song Beijing Welcomes You By Ke Zhaolei
Music can be found everywhere in our world and has many different functions. Since music is

falls into. The song BeijingWelcomes You is a chinese song composed by Ke Zhaolei for the 2008

The pattern of the song has a beat that repeats itself at a fixed rate. In addition to the fixed rate,
the song has an accent where one beat is emphasized and this can be heard by the increased
volume of that specific note. Towards the end of the song, the melodic contour of the song can be
described as a descending melodic contour as the pitches descend from high to low. This is done
by the artist holding out their voices for a lengthened amount of time. Furthermore, the phonic
structure of this piece can be described as a monophonic piece. Monophony means that the
performers play the same pitches with the same rhythms. Even though the song incompasses a
wide varitey of instruments, the rhythm of the song stays relatively the same Another important
aspect of the song is the dynamics. The beginning of the song can be classified as a crescendo
because of the increased musical sound from the instruments, however, towards the end there is a
decrescendo as the volume falls off and the artists holds on and extends the last note. The
crescendo in the beginning of the song is interesting to note because the song starts off acapella and
gradually the volume begins to increase when the first musical instrument comes into play. Last but
not least, this piece of music contains a lot of repetition. The vocal repetition of the songs title

indians, and others had it much harder. This actually contributed to the division of the races as well.
The whites believed they were mighty and powerful, while the minority races had to hide and fight
for their rights. Education was an empowering thing for many people, especially for those without a
say. During the Reconstruction in the New South, African Americans were still being attacked and

What Is Akbar An Indian Empire
Akbar created the nation on the foundation that it would truly be an Indian empire rather than
another alien conquest. He saw himself as an Indian ruler not a foreign autocrat, leading him to
blend the variety of cultural, regional, and religious heritage. Akbar understood that for his reign to
prosper he needed to command the support and participation of all Indians. He united the empire
even through marriage using symbolism of religious variety within his empire with his four wives,
two of whom were Hindu, one Christian, and one Muslim. Akbar further showed his devotion to

about 44.8 points per game. The Denver Broncos are an interesting team, because, they have had
some great plays and players, unique mascots, and had an amazing comeback over the years. The

One mascot is a real horse named Thunder. (Explained by Thunder {mascot}) He is one of the
three purebred Arabians who have served as the Denver Broncos mascot since 1993. Thunder
has appeared in two Super Bowls and Thunder III appeared in two different Super Bowls. The
Thunders were all owned by Sharon Magness Blake. All three horses were gray, but as they grew
older, their hair turned more white. Thunders jobs are to lead the team out with Miles, the
person in the horse suit, and every time the Broncos score a field goal or touchdown, he trouts
the length of the field. In 2004 Thunder Sr. retired, but still made public appearances until his
death in 2009. Thunder Jr. was the mascot from 2005 to 2014 until the Super Bowl where he was
unable to air travel and Thunder III, took his place. Therefore, leading Thunder III to be the
newest mascot. Also, Miles is a human mascot founded in 1999 on January 31, after winning the
Super Bowl for the second time in a row. Unfortunately, he did not appear in person until two
years later. Miles is a regular at the games, but is not like most other mascots, Miles makes time
for community promotion. His biggest role is in promoting the Broncos reading program, Read
like a Pro (according to Miles {mascot}). The Denver Broncos unique mascots, amazing plays and
players, and a great comeback over the years, has made them such an interesting and amazing team.

Buettner How To Be 100 Analysis
In Dan Buettner s How to live to be 100+ TED talk, longevity and three major blue zones around
the world are discussed. The blue zones of the Nuoro Province, Okinawa, and the prairies of
Minnesota are the three focused on in the talk. Their lifestyles are talked about and it is made clear
that there is no secret formula when it comes to longevity. Not every practice of each blue zoneis
touched on because many are societal changes that have been passed down and kept up for years
and take about that long to recreate in other areas. The three major takeaways from this talk as well
as some credible online sources are that fitness, friendships, as it relates to maintaining happiness
and company throughout life, and diet are extremely important... Show more content on

Overall the evidence supports the idea that having friends makes your life happier and helps you
live longer.
Diet
The last major reason Buettner uses in his talk that backs up longevity is a better diet. One
approach to eating better would be to try implementing the MIND diet which consists of
increasing your grain, vegetable, and fish intake, while decreasing the amount of red meats and
sweets consumed. This particular diet focuses on decreasing the risk of Alzheimer s, which is a
major cause of death in those over the age of one hundred (Health.com, 2016). Two approaches
that are more permanent than something like a diet that usually has a start and finish date are to
have smaller portions of food and to stop eating when you are eighty percent full. The way the
Okinawan blue zone has made smaller portions the norm is by eating off of smaller plates as
opposed to our average american size plates. Alongside eating fewer calories, a three thousand year
old adage, Hara, Hatchi, Bu, created by Confucius, reinforces to stop eating when you are eighty
percent full before every meal (Buettner, 2009).

To see any piece of society, for example, the family or religion, the part must be seen in connection
to society in general. For instance, a functionalist would look at the family as far as its commitment
to the support of the social framework. While functionalism can be valuable in portraying the
essential operation of the wellbeing framework, it doesn t consider the impact of political and
monetary intrigues and force battles that make the wellbeing framework a challenged domain, nor
would it be able to represent social clash and social

  • 2. Essay about Failures in a Distributed System Failures in a Distributed System Paper Phyllis Lenoir POS/355 November 19, 2012 Asho Rao A distributed system is an application that executes a collection of protocols to coordinate the actions of multiple processes on a network, where all component work together to perform a single set of related tasks. A distributed system can be much larger and more powerful given the combined capabilities of the distributed components, than combinations of stand alone systems. But it s not easy for a distributed system to be useful, it must be reliable. This is a difficult goal to achieve because of the complexity of the interactions between simultaneously running components. A distributed system must have the following characteristics: *... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Four types of failures that can occur in a distributed system are: * Halting failures: A component simply stops. There is no way to detect the failure except by timeout: it either stops sending I m alive (heartbeat) messages or fails to respond to requests. Your computer freezing is a halting failure. * Omission failures: Failure to send/receive messages primarily due to lack of buffering space, which causes a message to be discarded with no notification to either the sender or receiver. This can happen when routers become overloaded. * Network failures: A network link breaks. * Timing failures: A temporal property of the system is violated. For example, clocks on different computers which are used to coordinate processes are not synchronized when a message is delayed longer than a threshold period, etc. www.code.google.com Timing failures there is suspicion of a possible failure related to the motherboard. This can be a result of a specific message strongly implicating the motherboard in some sort of erratic system behavior. • 3. Differences Between The Dishonest And Movie In The Movie... Beowulf Beowulf is epic poem that has been passed down since the Anglo Saxon era Britain. The story speaks of the adventures of a man by the name of Beowulf who accomplished very great things in his lifetime, which included fighting monsters who represented everyday life. Recently Hollywood recreated the epic story by using live action animation but the movie was drastically changed in many ways. This makes people wonder why Hollywood would make these changes when the story was already great. Things like affairs, moral ambiguity, and corruption all were added to the movie because without it the audience wouldn t of been able to stay in to the movie as easily. In the epic poem Beowulfis made to be seen as completely honest but in the movie they show him as a dishonest and corrupt man. There are several incidents in the movie where Beowulf shows his dishonesty, for example when Beowulf comes to Denmark and tells the story of him fighting the sea monsters he remembers when he was seduced by a mermaid, but he fails to actually tell the people about this incident. In the movie Beowulf has several incidents with affairs, when he first comes to Denmark he messes around with the queen and after he takes the throne he has an affair with a younger maiden, this is different from the poem because in the poem it doesn t mention anything about Beowulf having any dishonesty. Another major difference between the poem and the movie is the fact that Grendel s mother is never slain in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I d like to start on describing my personal favourite character of the movie, John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson). John Bender is a stereotypical Criminal/Rebel complete with Denim Jacket, Leather Gloves and a Bandana. He talks with confidence as he says what he pleases to either to annoy or anger others for his own amusement and when he has to, stand up for what/who he believes in. Judd Nelson acted out the character of John brilliantly as you can really imagine Judd in real life truly acting this way as he has given such a realistic performance that is both entertaining and true. It is a condition in which the air way passages are narrowed leading to symptoms of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and cough (Bijanzadeh, Mahesh, Nallur 1). Asthma is caused by increased infiltration of inflammatory cells into the airway, constriction, airway smooth muscle hypertrophy, and mucous hypersecretion in the bronchiolar walls of the lung (Bijanzadeh, Mahesh, Nallur 1). The market for single ticket buying is the biggest and it is assumed that attendees are attending in substitution of other entertainment options and pricing has to be set as such. • 24. Summary Of Louis Ck Selfishness ABSTRACT: Everyone around you behaving selfishly essentially leads to a world of mayhem. Louis C.K. a well known comedian shares his experiences and stories of selfishness and how it affects the world around you whether it may make sense or not. Although he begins to get a bit over bearing as he describes what Gods reaction would be it allows the audience to truly recognize their mistakes and the mistakes of others. By using logo and pathos Louis successfully shares that a world of selfishness is dangerous and not in the common good for everyone. The true solution to selfishness would be to restrain yourself from acting selfish and preventing the world to come to a crazy state. Oscar Wilde once said. Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live; it is asking others to live as one wishes to live. Throughout Selfishness (88Tonio88, 25 3 13) a comedy routine carried out by Louis C.K. he begins to describe how it is difficult to stray from a selfish path. As he speaks he shows acceptance that selfishness is something that cannot be rid of completely but one can learn how to deal with it. It would be mayhem if everyone [acted that way] Louis describes. Although the industry has seen very little growth in recent years, Omega has successfully increased its market share through a policy of lowering prices (the company claims to have reduced prices by 7.5 per cent between 2004 2009) and improving customer service. On the HR side all policies and procedures are highly centralised and controlled the wage budget for example is fixed for each store and there is no local flexibility on pay something which was obviously a cause for great frustration in some of the stores where recruitment, retention and staff quality are on going major problems. Although the stores cannot function without these routines it is the way in which the rules and routines are implemented that is considered a key ingredient for success. It is management, in particular, store managers, who are responsible for how policies are implemented and their behaviour is therefore critical to a store s performance. Section managers occupy first line manager position within the store. • 26. Comparing the Concentrations of Saturated Solutions... In this lab, lab 4.3 Comparing the Concentrations of Saturated Solutions, we set out to find and compare the solubilities of two solids in water. In addition, we tested if solubility is a characteristic property of a solid in a given liquid. This lab allowed us to test and use a reliable way to measure the solubility of a solid. This lab can be replicated for any solid with the same procedure, thus it gives us a method to calculate solubility. The two solids we tested in this experiment were NaCl (Sodium Chloride) and NaNO3 (Sodium Nitrate). To begin the experiment, we measured 5cc of water and 5g of NaCl and added them to a test tube. Next, we stoppered the test tube and shook vigorously for two or three minutes. After we observed that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Six of the ten sodium chloride groups found the solubility of sodium chloride to be statistically 36g /100cc of water, with a +3g/100cc margin of error. Three of the four groups outside this margin of error had solubilities in the forties, 42, 48, 49g/100cc. These three groups made an experimental error that altered their results and can be excluded from our analysis of data. Another group was in the low thirties with 30g/100cc. Yet the beginning masses that compose the solubility equations do differ. For example, one group found that the mass of their solution was 4.21 grams, but another recorded a mass of 5.47 grams. When it comes to the mass of the solid (solute) the former recorded a mass of 1.11 grams, the latter reported a mass of 1.38 grams. Nonetheless, they came out with the same solubility of 34 grams per 100 cc of water. Thus we can prove that that solubility is a characteristic property. This is because every group started with a different mass of solution and solid, but they concluded with the same solubility (given the +3 gram margin of error and excluding outliers) or were close. Therefore, solubility is a characteristic property. Of the eight sodium nitrate groups three of them found statistically, with a +3g margin of error, 86g/100cc as the solubility of sodium nitrate in water. Another group calculated the solubility to be 82, which is just below the margin of error. Two of the eight groups ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was rooted in the believe that Europe, the only other meaningful powerful in the world in the 18th and 19th century, had intrinsic issues related to feudism that kept the continent in a constant state of war (Hook Spanier, 2015). The U.S on its part was far away from Europe and had a unique chance to chart a different course, one free from the troubles of Europe. As a democracy free from the class systems of Europe and hence maintain peace and stability (Hook Spanier, 2015). To maintain this peace and stability, it was in the United States interests to maintain detachment from Europe. In fact, Monroe wrote that Europe and its flawed system was evil and America should strive as much as possible to stay away from it (Hook Spanier, 2015). However, in the 20th century, this policy of detachment was put to the test when the United States was drawn into the first and second world wars by external factors. This led the United States to get more engaged in global affairs. Case Solution: Eurotunnel should use a market penetration pricing strategy at all times to gain freight customers. It should use a market penetration pricing strategy during non peak periods and a premium pricing strategy during peak periods with passenger car customers. Rationale: This strategy works best for Eurotunnel to gain market share for three main reasons: * Passenger preference among Le Shuttle users * Patterns among peak travelers * Price elasticity of freight traffic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the common peak travel periods, Eurotunnel will be able to compete on its capacity and speed competencies rather than price. Freight users in general go out of their way to get the lowest cost of trip and are very price elastic. Since trucking companies would take a longer ferry route in order to reduce the cost, it can be inferred that by offering a cost even slightly below that of ferries at all times to freight transporters, Le Shuttle will be their preferred choice. By entering the market with a price lower than the ferries, the trucking companies, which have an estimated price elasticity of demand of 3 to 4, will flock to the lower price and will unlikely ever return to the higher priced provider. Paired with other factors valued by the truckers, it is likely that a low price offer from the tunnel would quickly make it the first choice in channel crossing among truckers themselves as well as trucking companies. Eurotunnel will be able to support the increase in customers as well as the market penetration pricing strategy. This is done by the artist holding out their voices for a lengthened amount of time. Furthermore, the phonic structure of this piece can be described as a monophonic piece. Monophony means that the performers play the same pitches with the same rhythms. Even though the song incompasses a wide varitey of instruments, the rhythm of the song stays relatively the same Another important aspect of the song is the dynamics.
