A dream with an external visible outcome that
is written down with an end date becomes a
goal.
A goal broken down into steps becomes a
plan.
A plan backed by action becomes reality.
State your goals in one
sentence.
Have a positive verb that indicates the action you
want to use to achieve your goal.
The verb must indicate an action you control.
Concise, understandable wording.
An external, visible outcome.
A time lock for achieving the goal.
KEEP IT POSITIVE- A NEGATIVE GOAL
ACCEPTS DEFEAT
I want to be a NY Times best-selling author in
5 years.
I want to write my memoir for my
grandchildren.
I want to write part-time simply because it is a
hobby.
I want to get published within 2 years.
I want to have my book in print within 6
months.
I want to write a book that will help people with
????.
Strategic Goals Can Be Anything.
It’s the difference between ordinary and elite.
Success is a struggle.
The ‘enemy’ is closer than we think.
Do thing the ‘right’ way or the brave way?
Going from being a craftsman to an artist.
It causes you to focus, to ask why.
It take you out of crisis management into
management.
I’ve used, taught, and lived this.
IT WORKS.
Why Use Write It Forward?
With over 75 books published and five
million sold, Bob Mayer has been making a
living as an author for over three decades.
There is more to writing for a living than
penning the book. You have run a business as
an author. This is something that isn't taught
in schools or in the industry. This book
bridges that gap.
Reference Samples
"Bob Mayer is a gifted writer and a generous teacher.”
Susan Wiggs (#1 NY Times best-seller)
“Fiction writers everywhere will have the advantage of
Bob Mayer's teaching wisdom.”
John Tullius. Director Maui Writers Conference
"Your new Write It Forward focus is a great one. I always
loved at the Maui Writers Conference how your programs
delved deeply into the psychological models you need to
develop characters. Now you are using that same
knowledge to develop people. As we say in California-- way
cool! Much love to you my friend, and congratulations on
the new book, it looks great!"
Jack Canfield. Co-Creator Chicken Soup series
Write It Forward is a one-of-a-kind book
focusing on you, the author.
Bob Mayer applies the time- tested strategies
of the Green Berets to the world of being a
successful author. He has taught thousands of
writers over the years, but this new and
innovative program probes deeper than
words on the page. It is designed to teach
writers how to think, plan and become the
future best-sellers of the new age of
publishing. The benefits you'll gain from this
book will extend far beyond your writing and
reach into all areas of your life making
dreams a reality.
Many successful people use elements of it.
Nora Roberts sells 27 books every minute.
She has 182 books in print.
“You're going to be unemployed if you really think
you just have to sit around and wait for the muse
to land on your shoulder.”
Why Use Write It Forward?
Learn the craft . . .
. . . then break the rules
By Pablo Picasso
“I am always doing
that which I cannot do
in order to learn how
to do it.”
~Pablo Picasso
Bob has hit bestseller lists in multiple genres
including thriller, science fiction, historical
fiction, romance and non-fiction.
He is traditionally published, indie
published, hybrid, and been published by
Amazon’s Publishing Imprint.
“I’m convinced fear is at
the root of most bad
writing.”
~Stephen King
You can’t separate your writing from you, the writer
Living with fear is ultimately worse than confronting it
Attack the ambush
Put long-term goals ahead of short-term goals
Write what you know- maybe write what you are afraid to
know.
Lean into fear-- kaizen
Be curious about your fear-- it’s a cave- but treasure
could be inside
Take action.
Overcoming Fear
“Bob Mayer offers not only a keen mastery for crafting fiction,
but he does so with an uncommon ability to relate with
participants the very meat of the topics he presents.”
Director Whidbey Island Writers Conference.
“Bob is an extremely talented novelist who conveys his
knowledge and insight in a down-to-earth, forthright style.”
Director Novels In Progress Workshop.
“As a presenter you were informative and helpful to any writer
in any stage of writing. I’m glad you were recommended. I was
personally grateful for your presence.”
Director Black Hills Writers’ Workshop.
“The conference was indeed a success, not in small part due to
the strength of your presentations. People are still talking
about how much they learned from them.”
Director South Carolina Writers’ Workshop.
The paradoxical rules of rule breaking:
1. Know the rule.
2. Have a good reason for breaking the rule.
3. Accept the consequences of breaking the
rule.

The Writing Process Workshop
How do we create?
Where do our stories come from?
Why do we write?
Sometimes the question is: are we even writing what we
should be writing?
Our creative process is the core of our writing and the better
we consciously understand it, the more effectively we can
raise our process of craft into the creation of art. Process is
unique to each writer, but there are common traits and ways
to uncover it. We have to understand how our minds work,
how we create, how we process idea, story and channel them
into our writing. A topic rarely covered, but I’ve found it’s the
most fundamental thing a writer needs to understand.

  • 23. The Writing Process Workshop How do we create? Where do our stories come from? Why do we write? Sometimes the question is: are we even writing what we should be writing? Our creative process is the core of our writing and the better we consciously understand it, the more effectively we can raise our process of craft into the creation of art. Process is unique to each writer, but there are common traits and ways to uncover it. We have to understand how our minds work, how we create, how we process idea, story and channel them into our writing. A topic rarely covered, but I’ve found it’s the most fundamental thing a writer needs to understand. Half and Full Day Presentations

[11] She concentrates on one novel at a time, [12] writing eight hours a day, every day, even while on vacation.[7] Rather than begin with an outline or plot summary, Roberts instead envisions a key incident, character, or setting.[11] She then writes a short first draft that has the basic elements of a story. After finishing the first draft, Roberts goes back to the beginning of the novel. The second draft usually sees the addition of details, the "texture and color" of the work, as well as a more in-depth study of the characters. She then does a final pass to polish the novel before sending it to her agent, Amy Berkower.[13] She often writes trilogies, finishing the three books in a row so that she can remain with the same characters.
