Contractual Brief
Definition – This is where a company signs an agreement which gives someone a
deadline and the amount of pay to get the job done that they have been hired for.

Advantages – Means you don’t have to do the job yourself giving you time do other
things plus it will be exactly as you wanted it as that the only reason you’ll be
   paying them.

Disadvantages – If you don’t read the agreement properly you could end yourself in a
deal that only works in the other persons favour and you loose more money and
   don’t get what you want.
Formal Brief
Definition – The client provides a brief to the company of what they want the
company to produce. It contains the right information so the company can
complete the project to how the client wanted it.

Advantages
It makes it clear for what the client wants the company to produce and it makes sure
the client gets what they want.

Disadvantages
Formal briefs are not always legally bound so the client could get away with not paying
the company and as there is no contract it would be hard for the company to be
able to get money from them.
Informal Brief
Definition - An informal brief is normally is through face to face conversation although
could be done over email, where you work out costs and prices and a deadline all
these sorts of parts front client to company.

Advantages
Saves time as you don’t have to draw up a contract can get on with it a lot quicker.

Disadvantages
The disadvantages would be that if they didn’t do the work there would be nothing
but your word against there's if they were to take the money and not complete the
   job.
Co-Operative Brief
Definition
This is where two or more companies work on the brief at once. The companies must
then work together to complete the project.

Advantages
There are more workers so the quality of the work will be better. There may be more
advanced workers in one company. The work could also be finished in a shorter
   period of time.

Disadvantages
The companies could disagree about something and have to talk about it and pause
   the actual work.
Negotiated Brief
Definition – This is where to or more companies work together and any conflicts they
have when working together have to be resolved between themselves to make
sure that the job get done.

Advantages
The job will be done quicker as there are more than one company working on the
   project.

Disadvantages
They may never agree on the job that a certain amount of companies are not going to
be able to make it the same so it will take a lot longer that planned to be made.
Commission Brief
Definition
This is where a larger media company hires an independent media company to create
a product for them. The brief is negotiated between the two media companies.
Once the product is finished the independent company is paid.

Advantages
The independent company can earn more money to help them and if they do the
work well then they might be asked again. The larger company could also start
making another product whilst the independent one makes the other product.

Disadvantages
As it is a independent company they may not be as trained or skilled so the product
may not be as high quality as the larger company wanted
Tender Brief
Definition
A client needs a media product to be made and then a production company creates a
brief, proposal and budget that is pitched to the client. Quite a few companies may
try to secure the project so they might all have their own brief.

Advantages
The client gets what they want and they can choose which company they think will
   make it well.

Disadvantages
One company might not be able to participate in offering a brief as they might be busy
   making another project.
Competition Brief
Definition
This were a competition is made out of a job vacancy and a variety of different
companies apply but only one winner who gives the best answer ill be given the
    job to complete.

Advantages
If you keep entering and winning these competitions you’ll start to get well known so
long as your completing the job well.

Disadvantages
If you keep entering ad you don’t win the job then you’ll of wasted your time doing
the job entry and my not ever be considered to be good at the job your doing and
     wil struggle t find work.
My Brief
Which structure/structures will the Vegetarian Recipe Cards brief use?
Reference your reasons for choice/choices
- The type of brief were going to use for our brief is going to be a formal brief as it
gives out the information that is needed to create what it is which is the
    vegetarian food cards.
-We could also use the competition brief so that we could have a variety of different
entries and then we could choose the best from these to actually be made and
then we’d have more chance in order to find what we want exactly.
Reading the Brief
Why is important to thoroughly read your brief?
Its important to re-read your brief after writing it to make sure that whoever is going to complete
the task you’ve set is going to do exactly what you want them to and that if its not to what
you want that the wont be paid for doing it. You will not end doing something you don’t
want to do because if you don’t read the brief you may agree to something that you didn’t
     want to.
Reading the Brief
What is the nature and demand of the Vegetarian Recipe Cards brief?
We have been asked to produce a vegetarian recipe card with the intention to either help
someone choose to be a vegetarian with the amount of meals and substitutes there are or to
give current vegetarians more options with varieties of foods that they could have. We have
10 weeks to complete the whole project. We have an option to take our own pictures or use
a high resolution image from the internet but we might take our own pictures.
Negotiating a Brief
Why is it important to discuss the brief with your client prior to production?
You need to make sure you are capable of doing what the client wants; if you have the right
material and equipment for example. You may need to change parts of the brief so it is
actually possible to make the product that the client wants. Also the client needs to know if
you can get the product finished on time
Negotiating a Brief
What are the advantages and disadvantages of employing discretion with a brief?
One advantage of this is that it is fast and efficient and you can just get on with getting the
product finished. You don’t have to worry about checking with the client to see if everything
   is going to plan.
One disadvantage is that when the product is finished then the client might not like it as they
have not seen it in production and they don’t have any say half way through the project so
   they cant change anything.
Negotiating a Brief
Are there any potential legal/ethical/regulatory issues with the brief’s proposed product?
You would be able to sort each of those things out within the negotiating of the brief to make
sure your both happy as the client or company so that nothing can interrupt the working
    relationship.
Negotiating a Brief
Amendments you have considered to;
The Product
Any copyright right boundaries that we have to consider.

The Budget
If equipment is damaged then we might not have enough money to complete the project. For
example if a camera breaks we would have to use a high resolution image from the internet.

The Conditions
The client may pay too little if the product is not how they wanted so the company needs to make
sure that the client gives all the money that is owed.
Opportunities
What opportunities could this brief allow you to explore?

Self Development
Knowing how important it is to meet the deadline as I have seen that companies wont get paid if
the product is not complete on time.

Learning new skills
Learning about different types of vegetarians by researching and finding out about different
    recipes for vegetarians.

Multi-skilling
I could be taking photos whilst having the idea of designing the recipe card. Also using
Photoshop to edit my images after I have taken them.

Contributing to a brief
This would be suggesting to the client to change to brief or ask to edit it to go with what you
think would be a better idea.
