Women in Afghanistan face significant challenges to equality and basic rights. They have low literacy rates, often marry young, work for lower pay than men, and make up only a third of the country's students. Girls' education faces security issues as schools are targeted by attacks. Hundreds of Afghan women have committed suicide due to domestic abuse and lack of divorce rights. For women to truly enjoy freedom, Afghanistan must address pervasive violence and support women's rights through education.
