4. The united nations define violence on women as, “any act of
gender-based violence that results in, physical, sexual, or mental
harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion
or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in
private life.”
In easier words, violence on women is any type of assault on a
woman’s body, physical integrity, or freedom of movement
inflicted by an individual or through societal oppression.
Introduction

5. The history of violence against women remains vague in scientific
literature. Examples include the fact that Roman law gave men the
right to chastise their wives, even to the point of death. This rule for
punishment of wives prevailed in England and America until the
late 19th century. In the modern day, it is recognized that violence
against women exists everywhere, and that "there is no region of
the world, no country and no culture in which women’s freedom
from violence has been secured."

anxiety for as long as 16 years after the rape occurred. (Ellis, Alkeson, 1981)

Lack of women empowerment;
women are still neglected
In August 2003, over 300 houses in 7 Pahari villages of Mahalcchari were razed to the ground by the
army, aided by Bengali settlers. Paharis claim, ten Chakma women were raped, some of them gang-
raped. This includes a mother and her two daughters, aged 12 and 15, and two daughters of another
family, aged 14 and 16 years. Victims allege, armed personnel along with Bengali settlers took part in
the rapes. Paharis claim, state-sponsored political and sexual violence still continues.
There is no public evidence that the Bangladesh army has investigated those claims in any way.
Case on Violence against women
19
20. Violence is not a new issue and violence on women is a global outrage. It has existed since
the beginning of existence. The experience or threat of violence, affects the lives of
women everywhere, cutting across boundaries of wealth, race and culture.
Eliminating this non civilized phenomenon need to all people’s co-operation. We should
incriminate this action by all its forms and the person who uses it should be convicted by
the society.
However, in intension to stop this dangerous phenomenon, there should radical solutions
since not only the women are the victims of this action, but also this society.
Conclusion
20
21. Violence against women is one of the most happening crimes now-a-days. Eradicating
completely may take time, but it is never impossible. Few steps :
Self-control of men
Giving proper respect to women
Gender equality, accepted by individuals and society both
Aware of violence (self and others)
Staying strong against violence in all circumstances
As it said, “charity begins at home”, every girl should be aware of this and stay against
violence by thought, words acts.
