A group of angry women marched from Paris to Versailles to demand bread from King Louis XVI. They numbered around 6,000 and were armed with weapons like pitchforks and scythes. When they reached Versailles, they stormed the gates and confronted the King while wet and muddy. Faced with this large, threatening crowd, the King agreed to provide bread to the women. He also decided to move his entire royal court from Versailles to Paris in response to the march, a move that would have significant consequences as the French Revolution continued.
