This document outlines WMATA's plan to reconstruct station platforms over three years from 2019-2021. 45 outdoor stations have platforms that are deteriorating after decades of weather exposure. 20 stations need immediate repairs. The plan is to complete work on 20 stations using continuous work that allows 24/7 access for 1/3 the time versus limited night/weekend work. This will cost $300-500 million and involve extended summer shutdowns each year on portions of the system. Phase I work from Summer 2019 to early 2020 is outlined, including impacts from concurrent construction projects on I-66 and I-395. Coordination with partners on mitigation for customers during shutdowns is ongoing.
