This document summarizes information about wireworm management in grain production. It discusses what wireworms are, their lifecycle, species that cause damage, and monitoring techniques. Cotton, known as āWhite Goldā, is the premier commercial crop in India. Among the different constraints that limit the yield of cotton in India, insect pests are considered to be the most serious. Among these insect pests nowadays, Whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) is most important. It is highly polyphagous pest and feeds on over 600 plant species including many agricultural crops (Oliveira et al., 2001). During last week of September, 1994 the whitefly assumed an epidemic form on cotton and brinjal crops at farmers fields throughout the Haryana state (Sharma and Batra, 1995). There are 24 different biotypes of whitefly. It transmits more than 111 species of plant pathogenic viruses (Jones, 2003). There are many approaches for controlling this pest viz., physical, cultural,biotechnological, biological, chemical, biopesticides and biorationals. Yellow sticky traps in various forms can catch large no. of whiteflies (Gerling and Horowitz, 1984). Use of light emitting diodes increase the attractiveness, specificity and adaptability of these visual traps (Stukenberg, 2014). There are cultural practices such as avoidance in time, avoidance in space and behavioural manipulations to manage whiteflies (Hilje et al., 2001). A reflective mulch (also called silver and metallic) treatment resulted in a lower incidence of adult whiteflies as compared with a standard black mulch treatment (Simmons et al., 2010). Biopesticides such as fungi and azadirachtin are also used to manage whitefly. In pot culture, 2% concentration of mineral oil + neem oil and mineral oil + Pongamia glabra seed oil were effective against Bemisia tabaci with a mean population reduction of 81.83% and 81.52% respectively (Chandra Shekhar et al., 2015). Five species of predators : Serangium parcesetosum, Brumoides suturalis, Cheilomenes sexmaculata, Coccinella septempunctata, Chrysoperla zastrowi and a parasitoid, Encarsia lutea were identified in Haryana (Kedar et al., 2014). Pyriproxyfen 10 EC @ 125gm a.i/ha was found most effective Insect Growth Regulator against whitefly (Kumar et al., 2014). Imidacloprid proved to be the most effective insecticide against whitefly upto seven days after application (Afzal et al., 2014). Spiromesifen 240 SC @ 0.4 ml/lt followed by buprofezin 10 EC @ 1.0 ml/lt were found as the most effective treatments with more than 75 per cent mean reduction in nymphal population of whiteflies (Maha Lakshmi et al., 2015). A chitin inhibitor gene Tma12 from a fern Tectaria spp. was identified for whitefly defence. RNA interference (RNAi)- mediated gene silencing was explored for the control of Bemisia tabaci (Upadhyay et al., 2011).

Introduction
Sugarcane is a widely grown crop that is used to produce sugar, ethanol, and other products. However, the availability of quality sugarcane seeds is often limited, which can hinder crop yields and productivity. This presentation discusses the importance of sugarcane seed production and outlines a three-tier nursery program that can be used to produce high-quality seeds.
Three-Tier Nursery Program
The three-tier nursery program consists of three stages: primary nursery, secondary nursery, and commercial nursery. The primary nursery is established using breeder seed from a research station. The crop is raised in a seed farm after heat treatment. Seed from the primary nursery is then distributed to farmers for raising secondary nurseries. Seed from the secondary nursery is distributed to farmers for raising commercial nurseries.
Land Requirements and Pollination
Sugarcane is a cross-pollinating species, so it is important to isolate different varieties to prevent contamination. Land for sugarcane seed production should be free of volunteer sugarcane plants and have a long-duration crop rotation. Additionally, areas with a high incidence of mealybugs and borers should be avoided.
Planting and Seed Treatment
Sugarcane can be planted in autumn, spring, or summer. The timing of planting should be adjusted so that the seed crop is harvested at 8-10 months. Seeds should be obtained from a reputable source and be free of insects and diseases. Pre-planting seed treatment can help to control diseases.
Raising Seedlings and Transplantation
Seedlings can be raised in a settling nursery before being transplanted to the field. The seedlings are then transplanted into rows with a spacing of 90cm between rows and 60cm between plants.
Irrigation, Fertilization, and Weed Control
Sugarcane requires consistent irrigation, especially after planting. The crop also needs to be fertilized with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Regular weeding is necessary to control weeds and prevent competition with the sugarcane plants.
Plant Protection and Roughing
Sugarcane is susceptible to a number of diseases and pests. It is important to monitor crops for signs of disease and infestation and take appropriate control measures. Roughing involves removing diseased or off-type plants from the field.
Harvesting and Field Standards
Sugarcane seed should be harvested at 8-10 months of age, when the moisture content of the cane is at least 65%. The cane should be cut close to the ground with a sharp knife. Seedcane must meet certain field standards in order to be sold.

or buckwheat (var Mancan) as a rotation crop as
shown above.
4.āÆTry not to plant a preferred host such as grain every
year.
5.āÆFor root crops harvest early
before wireworms come up to
the surface to feed in the fall.
