William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was an English poet, playwright, and actor, renowned as the greatest writer in the English language. His works include about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, and other verses, with many translated into various languages, making him a pivotal figure in literature. Born in Stratford-upon-Avon, he spent much of his life in London, where he wrote famous comedies, tragedies, and histories, performed at the Globe Theatre, and passed away in 1616.
