William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 and attended King's Grammar School where he learned basic reading and writing. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and had three children, though his son Hamnet died in 1596. Between 1585-1592, little is known about Shakespeare but he likely moved to London to pursue writing for the theater. By the 1590s, he had risen to fame as a playwright and poet in London and was a founding member and shareholder of the Globe Theater.
