3. DOLPHIN (PLATANISTA INDI)
 Primitive type of whales.
 Common species is indus blind
dolphin.
 Found in indus river (PAK).
 DISTRIBUTION:
 MAIN POPULATION:
 Indus river between Sukkur
and Guddue Barrages.
 SMALL POPULATION:
 In between Chashma and
Guddue Barrages in PUNJAB.
 In 1974, total count of the
blind dolphin in river indus was
only 150.

is 429.

4. BODY STRUCTURE
 Fish like structure.
 Varies from 175-300cm.
 Beak is long and sharp
teeth on both jaws.
 Rudimentry eyes and is
blind.
 Female is larger than
male.
 Body color is pinkish or
purplish grey brown.
 Slightly paler on lower
side.
 Skin is soft without
mucous gland.

5.  It rises above to breathe after
an interval of 9-120 seconds.
 Dorsal fin is very much
reduced.
 Hindlimbs are absent.
 Forlimbs are in the form of
paddles.
 Oil is extracted from its fats.
 Perform local migration.
 It feed on fishes of various

6. WILD ASS
 Scientific name: Equua hemionus khur
 True wild ass of the world.
 Till late sixties, population of these animals
present in Tharparkar, Sindh.
 For last two decades, not a single specie has
been observed in these areas.

7. WILD BOAR
 Scientific name: Sus
scrofa.
 Large bulky animal,with
short thick and mobile
neck.
 Flattened naked nasal
disc.
 Ear pionted and set
forward.
 Has short tail.

 Hoofed mammals with
antlers.
 Antlers are found in
males and called
velvet.

9. HOG DEER

10. MUSK DEER
 No antler in both sexes.
 No glands in face and foot.
 50cm height.
 Weight is about 11-12kg.
 Hindlegs much longer then forelegs.
 Ears are long and prominent.
 Tail is very short and completely
hidden in anal hairs.
 Body covered with thick hairs.
 Body colour is greyish brown with
grey spots on back.
 Found in subalpine zone of
Himalayas about 2500-4000m
altitude.
 Chitral ,Hazara, Gilgit and Azad
kashmir.

11. CHEETAL
 Height 76-91cm.
 Living in herds of 5-30.
 Body colour is yellowish
brown with small white
spots.
 Weight 95kg.
 It prefers open type
forests.
 Recorded in Punjab but
very rare.

12. BARKING DEER
 Weight 22-25kg.
 Colour vary from brown
to yellowish with creamy
whitish marking.
 Only males have antlers.
 It feed on grasses, low
growing leaves and
fruits.
