1. Keeping Active
• Students engage in games, sports, dances and
other activities to explore the movements of
their bodies and to appreciate the fun and
importance of leading an active life.
2. Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle
• Students learn the skills and knowledge to
make healthy decisions for themselves and
the broader community - eg. students learn
the nutritional benefits and drawbacks of
different food types, and engage in
community events such as Clean Up Australia
Day.
3. Understanding Physical, Mental and
Social Development
• Students learn about their own development.
– Physical development, including human biology,
reproduction and puberty;
– Mental / emotional development, including
personal identity, sexual identity and coping with
change; and
– Social Development, including development of
interpersonal relationships and communication
skills.
4. Learning Safe Living Practices
• Students learn to live safe and healthy lives by
exploring safe living practices (eg. stop, look
and listen before crossing the road) and
common preventive measures (eg. sun
protection - slip, slop, slap, seek and slide).
5. Having FUN!
• Most importantly, students learn that leading
an active and healthy life is FUN by getting
active with their peers!
