PDHPE RATIONALE
•PDHPE   increases the awareness and importance of living
a healthy lifestyle.


•Ahealthy lifestyle is achieving and maintaining mental,
physical, social and spiritual wellbeing.


•Promotes positive relationships, less illness which leads to
an improved quality of life.


•PDHPE  aims to enhance children’s development of their
knowledge, understanding and practical skills.
•   Encourages students to understand and value themselves and others
    which promotes tolerance and care.


•   Promotes physical activity by engaging children in vigorous activities.


•   Develop children’s decision making skills.
•   PDHPE in primary school develops and teaches children
    the life skills they need in real life situations.



•   These skills are:
•   - Moving
•   - Problem solving
•   - Communicating
•   - Interacting
•   - Decision-making
Children learn about:


•   Growth and development:
    Understanding their body, personal identity, human sexuality,
    changes within themselves, and values


•   Games and sport
    Practicing their non locomotor and locomotor skills, manipulative
    skills, games, athletics, aquatics and playing the games.


•   Gymnastics
    Teaches children the elements of movement and composition.


•   Dance
    Teaches children the elements of dance, composition and dance
    styles while also practicing their non locomotor and locomotor skills.
Children learn about (cont):

•   Active Lifestyle
    Teaches and encourages children to be active by showing them
    different ways to be active. Focuses on the components of an
    active lifestyle and the positive effects of participating in physical
    activities.


•   Personal Health Choices
    Focuses on decision making skills, health and nutrition, drug
    awareness, environmental health and preventive measures.


•   Safe Living
    Children learn about personal safety, knowing who to trust, their
    safety network. Raising awareness in school, home, road and
    water safety and informing them about emergency procedures.


•   Interpersonal Relationship
    Children learn about relationships, communication, families,
    peers and groups.
