Issues and opportunities are summarized, together with the Italian experience linked to the white certificate scheme.
White certificates as a tool to promote energy efficiency in industryDario Di Santo
Energy efficiency obligation schemes (EEOs) are used in many EU countries as a policy measure to reach energy efficiency targets. Some of the first EEOs (UK, Italy, France, Denmark) have been capable to reach positive results over the years, as clearly demonstrated by the ENSPOL project. The Italian mechanism, in particular, is an interesting example of white certificate scheme (WhC), since it is one of the most long-lasting schemes (operatively started in 2005), has ambitious targets, covers all sectors and energy efficiency solutions, and has many flexibility options in place (e.g. non-obliged parties, tradable market, bankability, etc.).
Another point of interest is Italian WhC development over the years. In the first phase, most of the projects were related to buildings with deemed savings as energy savings assessment method. Then the industrial sector rose constantly, till covering 80% of the savings in 2014, mostly assessed through metered savings procedures. In the last three years, the buildings sector has started to recover, while metered savings have remained the most used energy savings evaluation procedure. This last development is mainly due to some regulatory decision and to the modification of the assessment of additionality for many industrial projects categories.
The paper will illustrate the reasons behind these developments, the issues that have arisen over the recent years, and the decisions taken to address them through a major redesign of
the Italian scheme that has been introduced with new ministerial guidelines in 2017: many aspects – such as targets, base-line and additionality, saving assessment, and measurement, verification and control procedures – has been deeply affected. The presentation related to the paper presented at eceee industrial conference, covers such themes, focusing in particular on the industrial side and highlighting themes like cost effectiveness, energy savings assessment, and how baseline and additionality have been dealt with over the years.
White certificates: news and opportunities after 2018 reviewDario Di Santo
D.M. 10 maggio 2018 introduced some important modification to the guidelines of the Italian white certificate scheme, mostly to deal with issues such as the lack of certificates to fulfil the targets and the excessive rigid rules introduced in 2017 to present new energy efficiency projects. The presentation shows the main changes and some results in terms of issued certificates and prices and summarises some hints on the future of the scheme.
White certificates: the shift towards industry presented at ECEEE summer studyDario Di Santo
The Italian white certificates scheme (WhC) has been in place for nine years and a lot of experience has been gathered. More than this, it has become an effective mechanism, mostly based on measured energy savings, to promote and implement energy efficiency in industry.
The scheme is based on an energy efficiency obligation, imposed on electricity and gas distributors, and on a tradable market for certificates, thus acting as an incentive for medium and large end-users and energy service companies (the voluntary parties).
The proposed paper shows in detail the shift of the scheme from the civil sector to the industrial one and from deemed savings projects to monitoring plan projects. Also the transformation of some energy service providers in ESCO has worthy to be noticed.
The paper is based on an extensive research carried on from FIRE on monitoring plans commissioned by ENEA, showing what kind of interventions have been implemented, how they performed compared to the expected savings, and what kind of advice can be given to other countries that are considering the introduction of an energy efficiency obligation (EEO) scheme according to the 2012/27/EU directive.

2020 SOLAR PLUS ENERGY STORAGE: FEASIBILITY OF BEHIND-THE-METER SYSTEMS FOR L...AurovilleConsulting
A transition towards a decarbonized and sustainable energy future will incorporate renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind. The intermittency of these renewable sources creates a substantial mismatch between energy produced and required. Energy storage plays an important role in balancing supply and demand and helps to create a more flexible and reliable electricity grid. If we want to source 100% of our electrical energy from renewables by 2050, significant investment in energy storage is necessary.
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery is a rapidly developing and the future energy storage solution, the cost of Li-ion battery has seen a steady decline over the past years, this trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable time. A 78% reduction in the cost of Li-ion battery pack over the 2015 cost is expected by 2030. Consumers, in India particularly, are highly cost-sensitive. With the increasing affordability solar plus energy storage becomes a viable investment option while at the same time providing a certain degree of energy security and independence for the consumer.
This report focuses on the financial feasibility of investing in solar plus energy storage (lithium-ion) on the consumer side of the service connection (behind-the-meter) for selected LT consumer categories in Tamil Nadu.

From social aspects of PV, collective and decentralised self-consumption policies to floating PV, this webinar will browse the global landscape of PV development.
Izumi Kaizuka, deputy chair of the IEA PVPS Task 1, will present the trends of the PV Industry. The production of polysilicon, ingots, wafers, PV cells and modules have been growing with the growth of the PV market. The gap between manufacturing capacity of PV module and the demand contributed to the recent price reduction thus resulted in lower LCOE of PV power. Across the value chain, the PV upstream sector makes efforts to improve efficiency, output and reliability. Further progress of cost reduction is expected. In the downstream sector, players are also applying various methods to reduce LCOE.

Innovation needs for the integration of electric vehicles into the energy systemDrStefanWolf
The mitigation of climate change and the substitution of fossil energy sources is one of the greatest tasks of
our time. Electric mobility is the most promising solution to decarbonize the transport sector. As the market
for electric vehicles is quickly gaining momentum, an urgent need for intelligent integration of the
energy and mobility system arises. This integration leads to a multitude of technical, economic and social
challenges. Thus, this paper aims to identify the need for future research, development, standardization and
regulation to provide recommendations for action.

A GROWING MARKET WITH LOTS OF EXCITING NEWS IN 2015 - 2016
2015 - 2016 has been an exciting year for the gallium nitride (GaN) power business. Up until late 2014, 600V/650V GaN HEMTs’ commercial availability was still questionable, despite some announcements from different players. Fast-forward to 2016 end users can now buy not only low-voltage GaN (<200V) devices from Efficient Power Conversion (EPC), but also high-voltage (600V/650V) components from several players, including Transphorm, GaN Systems, and Panasonic.
Also, a new start-up, Navitas Semiconductor, announced their GaN power IC in March 2016, followed by Dialog Semiconductors revealing their GaN power IC in August 2016. The idea
of bringing GaN from the power semiconductor market to the much bigger analog IC market is of interest to several other players too. For example, EPC and GaN Systems are both working on a more integrated solution, and Texas Instruments, a well-established analog IC player, has also been engaged in GaN activities, releasing an 80V power stage and 600V power stage in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Despite these exciting developments, the GaN power market remains small compared to the gigantic $335B silicon semiconductor market. In fact, according to Yole Développement (Yole) investigation the GaN power business was less than $10M in 2015. But before you think twice about GaN, remember that a small market size is not unusual for products just appearing on the market.
The first GaN devices were not commercially available until 2010, so we are talking about an industry that is only six years old. What is most important is the GaN market’s future potential – and Yole expects the GaN power business to grow, reaching a market size of around $300M in 2021 at a 2016 – 2021 CAGR of 86%.
This report provides a structured vision of the GaN power device market in terms of uses, applications, and potential trends.

Certificati bianchi: storia, situazione e proposteDario Di Santo
E un principio fondamentale: energy efficiency first.
Fotovoltaico: considerazioni e prospettiveDario Di Santo
Finanziare l'efficienza energetica nell'industriaDario Di Santo
Aggiornamento sui certificati bianchi come presentato all'incontro presso Federchimica.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.

Business Valuation Principles for EntrepreneursBen Wann
This insightful presentation is designed to equip entrepreneurs with the essential knowledge and tools needed to accurately value their businesses. Understanding business valuation is crucial for making informed decisions, whether you're seeking investment, planning to sell, or simply want to gauge your company's worth.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).
Memorandum Of Association Constitution of Company.pptseri bangash
www.seribangash.com
A Memorandum of Association (MOA) is a legal document that outlines the fundamental principles and objectives upon which a company operates. It serves as the company's charter or constitution and defines the scope of its activities. Here's a detailed note on the MOA:
Contents of Memorandum of Association:
Name Clause: This clause states the name of the company, which should end with words like "Limited" or "Ltd." for a public limited company and "Private Limited" or "Pvt. Ltd." for a private limited company.
https://seribangash.com/article-of-association-is-legal-doc-of-company/
Registered Office Clause: It specifies the location where the company's registered office is situated. This office is where all official communications and notices are sent.
Objective Clause: This clause delineates the main objectives for which the company is formed. It's important to define these objectives clearly, as the company cannot undertake activities beyond those mentioned in this clause.
www.seribangash.com
Liability Clause: It outlines the extent of liability of the company's members. In the case of companies limited by shares, the liability of members is limited to the amount unpaid on their shares. For companies limited by guarantee, members' liability is limited to the amount they undertake to contribute if the company is wound up.
https://seribangash.com/promotors-is-person-conceived-formation-company/
Capital Clause: This clause specifies the authorized capital of the company, i.e., the maximum amount of share capital the company is authorized to issue. It also mentions the division of this capital into shares and their respective nominal value.
Association Clause: It simply states that the subscribers wish to form a company and agree to become members of it, in accordance with the terms of the MOA.
Importance of Memorandum of Association:
Legal Requirement: The MOA is a legal requirement for the formation of a company. It must be filed with the Registrar of Companies during the incorporation process.
Constitutional Document: It serves as the company's constitutional document, defining its scope, powers, and limitations.
Protection of Members: It protects the interests of the company's members by clearly defining the objectives and limiting their liability.
External Communication: It provides clarity to external parties, such as investors, creditors, and regulatory authorities, regarding the company's objectives and powers.
https://seribangash.com/difference-public-and-private-company-law/
Binding Authority: The company and its members are bound by the provisions of the MOA. Any action taken beyond its scope may be considered ultra vires (beyond the powers) of the company and therefore void.
Amendment of MOA:
While the MOA lays down the company's fundamental principles, it is not entirely immutable. It can be amended, but only under specific circumstances and in compliance with legal procedures. Amendments typically require shareholder

Targets from 200 ktoe in 2005 to 7,600 ktoe in 2016;
Additionality based on market or regulatory baseline per
single project or deemed saving file;
≈85% of savings are metered and ≈82% are monitoring
plan projects (in 2007 ≈90% were deemed savings);
ESCOs have been the main actor in presenting projects
both in terms of proposals (96%) and of toe (70%, whereas
25% come from companies with energy manager);
Flexible managing agencies needed to deal with the
growing proposals (13,717 RVCs presented in 2014 and
1,034 PPPMs VS ≈150 in 2007 and ≈550 in 2012);
All energy efficiency projects in all sectors are allowed; the
scheme moved from tertiary and residential sectors
projects to industrial ones;
Controls are mainly documental, but on-site controls are
rising;
Cost effectiveness is high (0.017 euro/kWh according to
ENEA).

11. Saving evaluation methods in Italian WhC
11
Deemed savings projects (progetti standard): the saving is evaluated with
respect to the number of installed reference units (e.g. square meter, kW,
number of installed units). No measures are required. Only standardized
solutions can be included in a deemed saving file. The proponent presents
an RVC once.
Scaled savings - engineering estimates (progetti analitici): the saving is
evaluated with respect to some measured quantities through a dedicated
algorithm defined in a dedicated file. Required meters are also indicated in
the dedicated file. The proponent presents an RVC at least once a year.
Metered saving - monitoring plans (progetti a consuntivo): the method is
similar to the previous one, but the algorithm, the baseline, the additional
saving coefficient, and the needed meters should be preliminarily proposed
by the applicant PPPM and approved from GSE (with ENEA-RSE). After
the PPPM is accepted the proponent will get WhC by presenting an RVC at
least once a year.

18. Verification process
18
Source: FIRE on GSE data. 2015 proposals updated by April 2016.
The main issues incurred in the verification and control process are:
requests for additional information and/or documentation not listed in the deemed
saving and scaled saving files or in the PPPMs;
request for proof of CAPEX of the project and the cost of energy for PPPMs;
issues linked to the shared responsibilities;
issues related to the closure or modification of plants prior the end of the technical life.

It works!
New guidelines to be introduced in order to improve the scheme (cost effectiveness,
additionality/materiality, saving assessment, support to complex projects, etc.).
The most important lesson learnt is that such a scheme can not born perfect, but it
needs continuos care and also some imperfections should be accepted during
transitions.
22
Some directions from MiSE for
the new guidelines, to be issued
in few months:
no more tau coefficient;
new evaluation methodology
(simplified monitoring plans
with sample measurements)
and surveyed savings;
stricter evaluation of ex-ante
consumption;
new rules for responsibilities
with ESCOs as proponents;
pay-back time minimum
requirements;
increased controls.
Continuos
improvement
is the key to
success.
Towards the new WhC guidelines
23. Conclusions about the Italian WhC scheme
23
Pros:
flexibility;
capacity, being capable of covering a good percentage of
the national targets;
support to an energy efficiency market development;
support to policy making, due to the huge number of
valuable data collected through PPPMs;
reliable and wide data and statistics, due to the
assessment of metered energy savings.
Cons:
high complexity, worthy the effort only in case of
ambitious targets;
appreciable results require a long time vision;
need of an enlarging management structure and care to
avoid unmanageable peaks in the verification activities;
information and support activities are vital to ensure the
success of the scheme.
24. Good practices in industry: EU-MERCI
The EU-MERCI project is dedicated to
the sharing of best practices in the
industrial sector.
Presently it is possible to:
share your good practices;
join the EU-MERCI community;
complete the EU-MERCI survey;
subscribe to the newsletter;
From 2017 on it would be possible to
access the good practices repository.
