best?
And why?

 You will learn which method is best and
why.
 Don't say 'it is best because it is easiest.'
That is not explaining why.
See the systems below
 Set A: 2x – 7y = 10 5x + 7y =19
 Set B: y= 6x -13 y =-1/3x +4
 Set C: x = -10y + 2 4x – 6y = 8
 Which method is best for each set and
why?
 Set A: 2x – 7y = 10 5x + 7y =19
 Best Method : Elimination
 Why? Both equations are in the same form
(Standard) and the y-term can be
eliminated without multiplying.
 Set B: y= 6x -13 y =-1/3x +4
 Best Method: Graphing
 Why? Both equations are in slope intercept
form. To graph an equation, it must be in
slope intercept form.
 Set C: x = -10y + 2 4x – 6y = 8
 Best Method: Substitution
 Why? The variable 'x' is by itself. It is easy
to substitution '-10y+2' in for the 'x' of the
second equation.

 Use the main idea from each method in
your explanation (you substitute in
substitution, you eliminate in elimination,
you graph with graphing)

Which method is best

  • 1. Which method of solving systems is best? And why?
  • 2. In this presentation  You will learn which method is best and why.  Don't say 'it is best because it is easiest.' That is not explaining why.
  • 3. See the systems below  Set A: 2x – 7y = 10 5x + 7y =19  Set B: y= 6x -13 y =-1/3x +4  Set C: x = -10y + 2 4x – 6y = 8  Which method is best for each set and why?
  • 4.  Set A: 2x – 7y = 10 5x + 7y =19  Best Method : Elimination  Why? Both equations are in the same form (Standard) and the y-term can be eliminated without multiplying.
  • 5.  Set B: y= 6x -13 y =-1/3x +4  Best Method: Graphing  Why? Both equations are in slope intercept form. To graph an equation, it must be in slope intercept form.
  • 6.  Set C: x = -10y + 2 4x – 6y = 8  Best Method: Substitution  Why? The variable 'x' is by itself. It is easy to substitution '-10y+2' in for the 'x' of the second equation.
  • 7. Hint  Use the main idea from each method in your explanation (you substitute in substitution, you eliminate in elimination, you graph with graphing)
