Integrations - Thinking outside the box - Presentation Engage 2023 in AmsterdamRoland Driesen
Introduction and advantages on outside the box thinking. Then two examples:
Case 1: Customer moved mail to 365 while their Electronic Medical Record system (EMR) has only support for Notes/Domino and no support yet for Outlook/365.
Solution: Provide Notes agenda in Outlook trough iCal feed.
Case 2: A Notes/Domino application collects data from production systems. Customer wants to have a subset of this data available in SharePoint.
Solution: Don’t rebuild everything, but simply sync/upload the required data to a SharePoint list.
Camunda Run is the most recent addition to the list of Camunda Platform distributions. It combines extensive configurability with simplicity while making Camunda Platform more accessible to non-Java developers.
In this talk I will demonstrate how to solve some of the most common problems we see users face like securing your REST API, enabling CORS and more. We will have a closer look at new Run features involving OpenAPI and explore different ways to configure Camunda Run to make it ready for production.

HCL Connections fully implemented at accounting firm NEVBRoland Driesen
The boutique accounting firm Nieuwint & Van Beek in Amsterdam, The Netherlands is a long-time user of the HCL portfolio for all core processes and has created a customer portal on Domino.
Last few years the suite of HCL Connections has been added to improve internal collaboration & communication. Because a large portion of their customers work with Microsoft Teams, first a seamlessly integration between the latest version of HCL Connections and Teams has been created. During the project we were able to replace the required Teams functionality with adding the latest version of HCL Sametime. Also we have implemented Multi Factor Authentication for all users, including external users. With this step the organisation is bringing the power and security of HCL in a complete collaboration portal.
Business partner Silverside has guided this journey and implemented the technical parts and run an adoption project. In this session Roland Driesen and Gert van Kempen will give you the insights of the project and the hurdles that needed to be tackled. Not the easiest path, but now ready for collaboration across all parties and functional richer than Microsoft could provide.

July OpenNTF Webinar - HCL Presents Keep, a new API for DominoHoward Greenberg
In 2019 the HCL Labs reimagined how a REST API for Domino should look like. The initial prototype was shared with selected customers and partner. Based on the feedback, Project KEEP will ship together with Domino.
KEEP allows applications to interact with Domino servers using simple HTTP calls directly from a browser, desktop or mobile app, or with a application server in the middle. To make this API accessible to a large audience open standards like OpenAPI or JWT were chosen over propriety implementations.
This session will introduce KEEP and the design principles and use cases. Data security and ease of use will be highlighted. Warm up your Postman clients and curl command lines and follow along!
The presenters for this session will be Stephan Wissel and Paul Withers from HCL.

Workplace Simulated Courses - Course Technology Computing Conference
Presenter: Angie Rudd & Kelly Hinson, Gaston College
What do our students need to learn to be productive in the workplace, to get a job, what skills do they need? The workplace has changed, leadership has changed, and the future is collaboration. This presentation will discuss the methods and tools used in two online project classes. We will show you how we take our learning outcomes and design online classes to simulate a workplace environment. These courses are designed to give students the most realistic workplace environment that we can in an academic setting. One course teaches Emerging Technologies by using teamwork and collaboration environments. The other course uses the System Development Lifecycle as a guide for students to complete an individual project with feedback and brainstorming from other students. The goals for the session are: demonstrating and discussing collaboration, showing how to include useful teamwork in an online environment, working as a collective team, sharing information and knowledge, encouraging suggestions and ideas, brainstorming, building in frustration on purpose, using peer feedback in projects, enabling team resources, and embracing roles and responsibilities. Attendees will walk away with a template of how to design a course for a workplace environment while meeting the learning objectives of the course.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Show of hands who has used Blackboard, D2L, Canvas
Menus – do they have the links you use most often.
Customizable – can you customize the interface?
Content management –easy to add files and content. -- structure make sense.
Pros
- Deep organization structure means there are many levels of content organization, like folder then subfolders.
- file system is similar to what you see in Windows.
Cons
- Adding content can be overly complicated and you will need to do some review of all the content options, like items vs files. Some areas of course can seem hidden with all the layers of organization.
- Missing built in design wizard and only provided a Quick Setup Guide that will link out to help site. And it does have good documentation (what this will do) within the course.
- I understand that there is an attendance area with a seating chart in Blackboard but I was unable to find this in my course. Not sure if this is a tool that needs to be turned on at the admin level.
Pros
- The Instructional Design Wizard will guide you through adding course objectives, modules, assignments, and setting up the gradebook (show example).
(Seating Chart is found under Edit Course)
- The static menu at the top is really nice in that you know it will never change. You can always rely on it to quickly navigate the course.
Cons
- Unable to group modules into their own folder. For instance, have a chapter folder with modules 1 and 2. This makes the menu really long.
Pros
- Menu items are always visible to designer/instructor.
- Course Setup Checklist was pretty good (give example)
Cons
- Shallow content organization is not a big deal since it allows students to see more and not have to go digging for it but might drive some of us overly organized people crazy.
Shallow organizational structure made it easy for students to find where everything was in the course.

Cons

Pros
Cons
- have to add assignment then add gradebook item to link it to (show example) Would be nice to just create gradebook item or have checkbox to enable that.
Cons
- Missing attempt settings. Students have unlimited attempts.
Pros
- 17 question types. This is the most out of all systems. Canvas has 12 and D2L has 11.
Cons
-Navigate away from quiz to add questions. Once it's created then you can get to quiz options from the same screen.
Cons
-no option for force completion but instructor can submit a saved exam.

Cons
- Only 12 question types.
They all integrate with Respondus.
