What’s in God’s Word for
Me?
Isa 6:1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also…
Isa 1:1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he
saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of
Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of
Judah.
Hos 1:1 The word of the LORD that came unto Hosea,
the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham,
Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah…
Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, who was among the
herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in
the days of Uzziah king of Judah…two years before
the earthquake.
Mic 1:1 The word of the LORD that came to Micah
the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and
Hezekiah, kings of Judah…
2Chr 25:23-24
23) And Joash the king of Israel took
Amaziah king of Judah,
the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz,
at Bethshemesh,
and brought him to Jerusalem,
and brake down the wall of Jerusalem
from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate,
four hundred cubits.
24) And he took all the gold and the silver,
and all the vessels that were found in the house of God
with Obededom,
and the treasures of the king's house,
the hostages also,
and returned to Samaria.
2Chr 25:27
27) Now after the time
that Amaziah did turn away
from following the LORD
they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem;
and he fled to Lachish:
but they sent to Lachish after him,
and slew him there.
2Chr 26:1
1) Then all the people of Judah
took Uzziah,
who was sixteen years old,
and made him king
in the room of his father Amaziah.
Uzziah has literally just inherited a mess.
2Chr 26:5
5) And he sought God
in the days of Zechariah,
who had understanding in the visions of God:
and as long as he sought the LORD,
God made him to prosper.
2Chr 26:7
7) And God helped him against the Philistines,
and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gurbaal,
and the Mehunims.
2Chr 26:8
8) And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah:
and his name spread abroad
even to the entering in of Egypt;
for he strengthened himself exceedingly.
2Chr 26:9-11
9) Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the
corner gate,
… and fortified them.
10) Also he built towers in the desert,
and digged many wells:
for he had much cattle,
…and vine dressers …
11) Moreover Uzziah had an host of fighting men,
that went out to war by bands…
2Chr 26:16
16) But when he was strong,
his heart was lifted up to his destruction:
for he transgressed against the LORD his God,
and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense
upon the altar of incense.
“…when a remarkable day was come,
and a general festival was to be celebrated,
he [Uzziah] put on the holy garment,
and went into the temple to offer incense to God upon the
golden altar,
which he was prohibited to do by Azariah the high priest,
who had fourscore priests with him,
and who told him that it was not lawful for him to offer
sacrifice,
and that "none besides the posterity of Aaron were
permitted so to do."
And when they cried out that he must go out of the
temple,
and not transgress against God,
he was wroth at them, and threatened to kill them,
unless they would hold their peace.
In the meantime a great earthquake shook the ground (21)
and a rent was made in the temple,
and the bright rays of the sun shone through it,
and fell upon the king's face,
insomuch that the leprosy seized upon him immediately.
And before the city, at a place called Eroge,
half the mountain broke off from the rest on the west,
and rolled itself four furlongs, and stood still at the east
mountain,
till the roads, as well as the king's gardens, were spoiled by
the obstruction.
Now, as soon as the priests saw
that the king's face was infected with the leprosy,
they told him of the calamity he was under,
and commanded that he should go out of the city as a
polluted person.”-
[Flavius Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, Book 9, Chapter
10, p4]
2Chr 26:21-22
21) And Uzziah the king
was a leper unto the day of his death,
and dwelt in a several house,
being a leper;
for he was cut off from the house of the LORD:
and Jotham his son was over the king's house,
judging the people of the land.
22) Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah,
first and last,
did Isaiah the prophet,
the son of Amoz, write.
Isa 6:1
1) In the year that king Uzziah died…
Isa 5:15-16
15) And the mean man shall be brought down, and
the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of
the lofty shall be humbled:
16) But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in
judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified
in righteousness.
What’s in Gods Word for Me?
I. Something to See
Isa 6:1
1) In the year that king Uzziah died
I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne,
high and lifted up,
and his train filled the temple.
What a change of scenery, instead of an outcast king with
an interim ruler running the country, Isaiah sees the true
king that is never disgraced or away from his seat of
authority.
There are no comments or predictions as to the political
future of Judah, at such a precarious moment as this;
Isaiah is preoccupied with something vastly more
important.
“I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne,
high and lifted up”
It is of little importance that Uzziah is dead- the Lord is on
His throne.
Isa 5:7 the King is looking for judgment and
righteousness
7) For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house
of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and
he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for
righteousness, but behold a cry.
Isa 5:12-13
12) And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and
wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of
the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.
Judgment
13) Therefore my people are gone into captivity,
because they have no knowledge: Righteousness and
their honourable men are famished, and their multitude
dried up with thirst.
How they spend their time-
Isa 5:18-19
18) Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of
vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope:
They fill up a cart with vanity & try to pull it home
with cords of sin and iniquity
19) That say, Let him make speed, and hasten his
work, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the
Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may
know it!
The only thought of God is- If He wants me to
know something he will have to hurry up and
come to me, I’m not going out of my way or
waiting on him.
Man lives in a slow-motion time warp, eternity is
preparing now, based on man’s every action.
Isa 5:14
14) Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened
her mouth without measure:
Every spewing volcano should be a vivid reminder to
man if he won’t prepare for eternity it will prepare for
him.
and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and
he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.
Isa 5:21
21) Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and
prudent in their own sight!
Man’s human wisdom is no good. The closer you get to
God the more of what is really important comes in to
view. Heaven has a theme song, it is Holy, Holy, Holy.
What’s in God’s Word for me?
1)Something to See
II. Something to Sing
Isa 6:1-4
1) In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord
sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train
filled the temple.
2) Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings;
with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered
his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3) And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy,
is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
4) And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him
that cried, and the house was filled with smoke.
God has always been interested in one thing, Holiness.
In the Old Testament man could only access it through
the sacrifice of a spotless innocent lamb. (Cain found
out the hard way God accepts no substitutes).
In the New Testament man can only access Holiness
through the spotless Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, there
is no fruit salad on the menu.
Heb 12:14
14) Follow peace with all men,
and holiness, without which no man shall see the
Lord:
What’s in God’s Word for Me?
1)Something to See
2)Something to Sing
III. Something to Say
Isa 6:5
5) Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am
a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people
of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the
LORD of hosts.
John 3:19-21
19) And this is the condemnation, that light is come
into the world, and men loved darkness rather than
light, because their deeds were evil.
20) For every one that doeth evil hateth the light,
neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be
reproved.
21) But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that
his deeds may be made manifest, that they are
wrought in God.
If a man will open his eyes to the bright shining
holiness of God he will always say, “Woe is me”.
Job 42:5-6
5) I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but
now mine eye seeth thee.
6) Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and
ashes.
Daniel 10:8
8) Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision,
and there remained no strength in me: for my
comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I
retained no strength.
Paul- Rom 7:18
18) For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,)
dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me;
but how to perform that which is good I find not.
Rom 7:24
24) O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me
from the body of this death?
John- Rev 1:17
17) And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And
he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear
not; I am the first and the last:
The highway of holiness is only found via the road of
repentance which cost the heavy tole of “Woe is me”.
Isa 6:6-7
6) Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live
coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from
off the altar:
7) And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath
touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy
sin purged.
Isa 6:8
8) Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I
send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I;
send me.
Acts 9:3-6
3) And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and
suddenly there shined round about him a light from
heaven:
4) And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying
unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5) And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord
said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for
thee to kick against the pricks.
6) And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what
wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto
him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told
thee what thou must do.
What’s in God’s Word for Me?
John 6:63
63) It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth
nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are
spirit, and they are life.
John 12:48
48) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words,
hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken,
the same shall judge him in the last day.
