Editor's Notes
But first what are the wh questions? That's right, class! WH- questions ask for information and we do not expect a yes-no question, it is an open question.
An open-ended question is a question that cannot be answered with a "yes" or "no" response, or with a static response. Open-ended questions are phrased as a statement which requires a longer answer. They can be compared to closed questions which demand a “yes”/“no” or short answer.
Because modal verbs are auxiliary, they can’t generally be used on their own. A modal verb can appear alone in a sentence only if the main verb is implied because it has previously been established.
