Product Management is relatively new and unfamiliar to many company stakeholders. It has never been a major in colleges, and many people often have misconceptions that Product Managers = Project Managers, or holding a belief that digital Product Managers are just doing "IT".
Arguably, proper Product Management is vital to the longer-term sustainability of most companies. While visionary leaders with product-focused mindset are rare; we shall rely on no others but ourselves to pitch and convince upper management and key stakeholders the necessity to invest time and money into Product Management.
In this talk, we will discuss about:
- how Product Management practices can fit into the context of company strategy
- the key values that Product team drives and delivers to both external (clients / users) and internal (other departments) environments
- the processes that facilitate development of market-responsive products
There is no single formula of success, and each company should adjust and adopt its own unique ways to set up its Product team and strategy according to their talent mixes, business priority, stage of growth and competitive landscape. As such, we anticipate active dialogue and discussions among us so that we can learn our experiences from each other!

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:

8. 01 Intro
02 What is Product Management?
03 What makes someone a good PM?
04 Transitioning into Product Management
Agenda
11. Product managers are leaders operating at the intersection of design, engineering and business who identify
user problems and prioritize solutions to address them and achieve business goals.
14. Become a product manager if you are fulfilled by:
1. Solving people’s problems (both your users’ and
your team’s) 🙇
2. Driving business goals 📈
3. Working closely with a variety of people 👨🎤
4. Developing a strategy 🤔
5. Getting shit done ✅
6. Leading a team (through influence, not
authority) 🤝
7. Communicating often and broadly 🗣
8. Making decisions 👍
9. Creating amazing experiences for people
👌
10. Being organized, detail oriented, and
prepared 😎
15. Do not become a product manager if you are primarily fulfilled
by:
1. Appreciation 🥳
2. Having your way 😑
3. Being left alone 🚨
4. Always being right 🤓
5. Designing or building things yourself 👩🎨
6. Everyone liking you 🥴
7. Avoiding people 🤨
20. Natural Storytellers: Good product managers are storytellers. They tell captivating stories
focused around customer pain and their emotions, which motivate others to action.
21. Identify the Invisible problem: Good PM’s obsess over their users to identify their pain
points and address problems that aren’t obvious.
22. Makes The right trade-offs: Good PM’s make well rounded trade-offs by finding the right balance between
key variables in order to achieve the goal
23. Learning vs Shipping: Good product managers focus on learning. Whether it’s
customer interviews, shipping product or looking at user metrics, good product managers
are always laser focused on what they can learn that makes an impact to customers.
24. Decision Making and Creativity: Good product managers make a small percentage of team
decisions. They give context to builders and let builders build. They get out of the way by
empowering everyone on the team to make the right decisions.
25. Multipliers vs. Individual Contributors: Good product managers are multipliers. They
figure out the strengths and weaknesses of their team and find ways to bring out the best in
people. They learn the best way to be a 10X individual, is to get 2X productivity from 5
people around them.
27. 3 main takeaways
1. PM’s are Leaders: Product Managers are torchbearers for their users, products and their teams
and lead cross-functional team to achieve outcomes in line with business goals.
2. Get your foot in the door: There are different paths to break into Product Management, It’s
important to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses to identify the right path to break into
Product Management
3. Strong PM Traits: Different teams you work with would have different expectations of what makes
a good PM. It’s important to focus on building the underlying common denominators a part of your
skill set while learning functional skills for your product area.
