Contemporary Management Of Traditional Forest
There are over 556 federally recognized tribes in the United States. Over eighteen million acres on
334 tribal reservation in 36 states are forests and woodlands (IFMAT). These forested ecosystems are
vital to tribal communities therefore it is important to address frameworks offered for co managing
resources. Despite the popular assumption, Indian tribes have managed lands for thousands of years
prior to Euro American settlement. Tribal communities relied on traditional knowledge to sustain their
livelihoods. Traditional ecological knowledge is passed down through generations, which include
harvesting, use of fire, and sustaining livelihoods through the landscape and cultural practices. In
recent years, traditional knowledge held by local and indigenous communities has gain international
recognition that this knowledge can offer modern society restoration solutions for multiple
ecosystems. There are strong examples of contemporary management of traditional forest use in
multiple tribes throughout the US with a variety of approaches from conventional westernized
approaches to programs rooted in traditional ecological knowledge (TEK). This paper evaluates three
tribes located in the west: the Tulalip Tribe, the Karuk Tribe, and White Mountain Apache. Academic
literature on indigenous forest management and current plans/programs implementing traditional
ecological knowledge were reviewed to address the following questions: What is Traditional
Ecological Knowledge (TEK)? What

How Did Benjamin Franklin Impact The World
Benjamin Franklin, better known by some people as Ben was one of the many founding fathers who
drafted the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Benjamin was born
in Boston Massachusetts on January 17, 1706. He was the first man to create a volunteer fire
department, and the first lending library. Ben was the last son of his father Josiah Franklin who was a
candle and soap maker. He also was famous for his scientific theories, inventions such as the lightning
rod, bifocals, and mapping.
To start, Benjamin Franklin though well known for his politics Ben was famous word wide for his
inventions. Most of his invention even though fixed up a bit is still used today. Some examples of
these amazing inventions were swim fins, and the lightning rod. The swim fins unlike today s foot
flippers, were on your hands. They were invented when Ben was at the age of eleven. Last, the
lightning rod was created to help conduct the electricity away from homes. This was invented in 1753.

In his era there was no way to protect a house if lightning was roaming about in storm clouds were
brewing above. Ben having great curiosity in weather since he was young thought of a way to fix this.
Ben first started by having tests but his major test was to try it on Christ Church but grew impatient so
he tried it with a kite and metal key and it worked. After deciding with his colleagues he created a long
Iron rod which they thought would work best and that would conduct the electricity into the ground if
ever need be, so the people and building would be protected from the lightning. Since then his
invention was widely expected and is now used on many building today. For example the Maryland
State House and many monuments around the world and United States widely use

Foucault s Power And Power
Foucault s Power (Intro) Power, what is power? Is it a thing, something that can be controlled by a
person or group? Or is it an omnipresent force with no clear distinction of what it is and what it is not?
My views before being introduced to Foucault was: power is an attainable thing, but elusive. For
example, it is said one has power, if one has enough money. Another example I commonly hear is that,
the government (the State, the law, police) holds too much power. My final example is, in my opinion,
power is usually viewed as a negative thing by ones that do not hold said power. Michel Foucault, a
philosopher, challenged the traditional view of power by analyzing power in a series of studies of
different forms of power, such as from his books: Madness and Civilization, Discipline and Punish,
and The Order of Things to name a few. What Foucault found through his critical observations was
that the concept of power in the traditional views were too narrow and specific; not a singularity
composed of only negative aspects but also a dualism that leans much heavier on the side of positivity
than vice versa and an omnipresent force (or rather relationships) that may be used through various
techniques but not owned at all.
DEFINITION OF FOUCAULT S POWER
I will use this section to elaborate on each of the five points that according to Clare O Farrell s, a
scholar at QUT (Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia), key

Penne Restad s Christmas In America
A Review of Penne Restad s Christmas in America: A History
Penne Restad s Christmas in America is a demonstration of the change in American acceptance of
Christmas and the understanding of what the holiday is. The book shows that the evolution from the
humble European origins coming together in the United States through the 18th and 19th centuries
cumulating in an amalgamation of different traditions to create a more unified American holiday.
Events that propelled the solidification of the holiday are specific to the geographic separation
creating pockets of cultural tradition to emerge without relative interference. The bedrock of
Christmas history in America paved the way to ritualistic materialism in the 1800s that continues

People would give gifts to promote the emotional aspects of relationships and to reinforce the pattern
of spiritual bonds. Christmas in America profoundly investigates the degree of bonds established in
society, including the relationship among slave and master where even slaves could receive charity
during holidays. This relationship was of course predicate on the slaves previous work, and was often
done to bolster the self image of the slave owner, yet nonetheless incentivised slaves to work well
aspiring for the prospect of a reward. The dynamic was not unlike how Santa Claus became a
conditional benefactor for children, encouraging them to be inexplicitly good in hopes of presents,
simultaneously allowing parents a designated holiday to express their love through homemade or store

Sample Case Study Of Nyla Yaites
Introduction Nyla Yaites is an African American female, four years and eleven months of age. Nyla
was chosen for this case study because she seems to be a very interesting young girl. We attend the
same church and she has always greeted me with a pleasant smile and hug. Nyla appears to have a
sophisticated vocabulary, playful character, and seems to be well behaved for a four year old. I am
very excited about observing her for this case study. Since she was two years old, Nyla has attended
preschool at Saintsville Prep Academy. According to her teacher, she has learned her colors and
alphabet. Nyla has already mastered spelling her name. She loves playing pretend house and school.

I was able to observe a short tempered spell while she was in gym class. Nyla came out of class
because she wanted water. Her mom wouldn t let her drink from the water fountain because it s germy
. Nyla started whining and crying so her dad went next door to the store to buy her some water. Nyla
returned to gymnastics happy. Both of Nyla s parents normally accompany her to dance/gym glass. It
has been suggested that fathers attachment role during the preschooler years helps to challenge the
child in a supportive context that complements the mother s role in caring and comforting (Roggman
et al. 2002). Nyla s teacher also indicated that when Nyla gets too hot playing she will take a break
and hold conversations with teachers. Once she is cooled off, she is back to playing with her friends. It
seems that Nyla is knowledgeable enough to when her body needs to take a break, and she indicates
that she is mature enough to know when she is physically ready to return to play without abusing this
break. Reflective Summary and

Persuasive Essay On Free Contraceptives
Free Contraception Whether contraceptives should be provided at no charge is a huge debate in the
United States. Controversy emerge red through this causing millions to take a stand. The use of
contraception has a very important role in the lives of women and their partners. In an action to have
all forms of contraception be free the number of unwanted pregnancies, abortions, health issues, and
the spread of sexually transmitted diseases would decrease. A women s health is affected by
contraception. In a study done by Health Line a woman s digestive, integumentary, cardiovascular,
central nervous, and reproductive systems are greatly altered by the use of these products. In fact, they
can even be used to help treat other health concerns such as menstrual relief, skin changes, and more
(Health Link). With the use of contraception their bodies are able to benefit and be modified. It is not
only a way women use to be relieved of pain but to improve their skin. Another prevented cause of
contraception is the decline in spread of std s. By using protection and contraceptives there is a more
difficult process to spread the diseases. It is important to keep in mind that the best method for an
individual and her or his partner depends on which method the couple will use consistently and
properly (Peer Health). It is important to gain trust with a partner to provide safe sex and ensure their
health. By providing this necessity a woman s sex driviez

Punishment In Scarlet Letter
People that commit the same sinful act can have different punishments. In The Scarlet Letter written
by Nathaniel Hawthorne, he writes about a new Puritan colony in North America. The Puritans belief
in a Christian god was very strong and the community had extreme faith in their church officials. In
this colony, anyone who was believed to have committed a sin was punished harshly. The colony s top
reverend Arthur Dimmesdale commits an act of adultery with a beautiful woman Hester Prynne and
have a daughter named Pearl. Hester was publicly shamed in a scaffold in the marketplace of the
colony and also has to bear a scarlet letter A on her chest representing her sin. During this,
Dimmesdale becomes ill and is treated by a physician who is Hester s ... Show more content on

While the physician is having a conversation with Hester he informs her that Dimmesdale be Better

told that no mortal man has suffered as greatly as him. Chillingworth has deteriorated his mind and
soul to a point of such great agony that no mortal will ever experience the same agony. Later
Dimmesdale is speaking with Hester in the woods and finds out that Chillingworth is her husband.
Dimmesdale then realizes the torture that he went through and yells That old man s revenge has been
blacker than my sin (Hawthorne 185). The psychological torture that he experienced while under the
care of Chillingworth was pure hell if it were to be blacker than the sins of the minister. Dimmesdale
being put under this psychological torture by someone that is supposed to make him healthier makes
the punishment worse. Also the added pressure from the public to be perfect causes great

Who Is Ophelia Escapize In Pan s Labyrinth
Pan s Labyrinth and how Escapism can Ruin you. In Pan s Labyrinth, the character of Ophelia
represents how escapism s disconnect from reality might cause damage to relationships and severe
injury or death. Towards the beginning of the story, Ophelia s discovery of the fawn and the revelation
of her being, The daughter of the king of the underworld, shows how she uses escapism as a means of
creating a fictitious world that helps her avoid the new, horrible life that she endures under her
stepfather. However, the adventures that this fantasy sends her on creates a strain in her relationships
with her mother and stepfather, which becomes evident when her mother reprimands her saying, You
have disappointed me, and your father too. Furthermore, when the faun gives her a mandrake root as a
remedy for her mother s illness, it demonstrates how Ophelia uses escapism as an outlet for her fear,
and as a means of feeling like she has some control over whether her mother lives or dies. However,
when the mother burns the mandrake root shouting, Magic does not exist. Not for you, me or anyone

Art Comparing
Artists that concentrated on the Baroque style of painting had an uncanny ability to display their style
more so than the artists of the Renaissance era. In respect to their different approach towards shape,
room, and work of art, the differences in their styles resulted in dissimilar descriptions. Renaissance
and Baroque seem to concentrate towards the treatment of space, appearance, and color. This
uniqueness affects the description of a painting and therefore it cannot be seen. More so, than in
comparing Perugino s Christ delivering the Keys of the Kingdom to St. Peter from the Early
Renaissance to Caravaggio s exchange of St. Paul from the Baroque style. Perugino was considered
one of the best when we talk about the Early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Baroque style, used by Caravaggio, was the absolute opposite of any Renaissance painter that had
lived before him and because of this; it was probably the reason why he became the most radical artist
of his time. He deserted the rules that had guided a century of artists before him and because of his
theatrical break in style from the Italian Renaissance; he carefully brings a completely distinct
treatment of narrative. Caravaggio s action of form in his Conversion of St. Paul is extraordinarily
different from Perugino s work of art. One of the choices he decided to use was instead of outlining
Paul and his horse with lines, Caravaggio abandons this unique style and adds movement by using a
painterly style in which he uses paint to create an image and not rigid outlines. He uses color and
value to produce a unique form, causing a sense of movement in the figures. They are not locked in
time like Perugino s figures and express the exact opposite message of classical, passive figures.
These are strong, vibrant, and emotional figures. Perhaps the emotional aspect of the figures is created
by Caravaggio s introduction of dramatic light and dark effects, termed tenebrism. This technique was
a great breakthrough in art, which added great emotional effects and mystery to the art. Caravaggio
doesn t light Paul with a clear even light like Perugino

The Contributions Of Frederick Douglass By Frederick Douglas
While being educated and defending himself against Mr. Covey were important events in Douglass
life, the most important turning point was the day he was able to earn money from work. Being able to
earn money reminded him about his plan to attain freedom, made him an important asset to his master,
and made freedom a more attainable feat with his ability to hire his time. Earning money allows
Douglass to remember the goal he had almost forgotten, freedom. Since Frederick Douglass becomes
a such a skilled calker he is able to, command the highest wages given to the most experienced
calkers, and he was, now of some importance to [his] master. (92) Since Douglass is giving all his
wages to his master, Mr. Hugh, he is allowed to be free during his leisure time. During this time he is
reminded of his desire to be free. During these leisure times, these old notions of slavery would steal
over me again (92) Douglass says again because while in the employment of Mr. Gardener, he only
had time to think about his life and how to protect it. Having more tasks to do than time to do it, he
was continuously working, and at times, retaliating against his white overseers. Now that he is living
relatively comfortably, it heightens his yearning to be a free man, ...whenever my condition
improved...it only increased my desire to be free... If Mr. Hugh had worked Douglass as hard as his
previous masters, Douglass would not have been able to think about his plans for freedom because he

Analyzing Multiple Perspectives
From an early age I have been passionate about reading. Like seriously, when I was five years old I
was upset that I didn t get the newest Little Mermaid book for Christmas. However, I have never had
an interest in writing. Unfortunately, as I plan to go to graduate school to obtain my Ph.D, I really
cannot avoid it. Over the years, my lack of enthusiasm about writing has caused me to view most
English classes as a chore, something I needed to do in order to advance to what I really wanted to do
with my life. With the risk of sounding like a suck up, this is one of the first English classes I have
valued because I have felt like I improved some aspect of my writing in each essay.

Unfortunately, I really had no idea how to write one and spent a ton of unnecessary time finding
articles and then trying to remember what they were on. This was my first time doing an annotated
bibliography and it helped me tremendously. Through the annotated bibliography, I learned how to
properly organize my research. I think this is evident in how strong my introduction is. Although my
annotated bibliographies will probably not be as detailed if I am not turning them in for a grade, I will
most likely utilize them in other classes to provide a direction for my research and save time in the

The Capodistria In The Alexandria Quartet By Lawrence Durrell
Lawrence Durrell was famous for writing the Alexandria Quartet. The first novel in this Quartet is
entitled Justine. Durrell writes his novel through the narrator. In this novel, narrator writes about
Alexandria while he is in Greece, so he was using his memory of his past experiences in Alexandria.
In the novel, it is shown that Durrell sees Alexandria through the Cosmopolitan Alexandria, where
different people with different races were able to live peacefully together, the poor Arab quarters that
the lower classes live in and Justine as a resemblance of Alexandria. Durrell writes about the
Cosmopolitan Alexandria through the narrator of the novel. The narrator in the novel writes about his
experience in Alexandria and about his old friends who represents part of the Cosmopolitan
Alexandria. The representation of Alexandria as a cosmopolitan city is seen when the narrator says,

Atticus s Honesty
In this journal, I will be evaluating the theme of walking in someone s shoes. An example of the theme
walking in someone s shoes is with Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch. To start, Atticus is able to walk
in Tom s shoes because they are both honest. One example of honesty would be when Atticus told his
kids he could not win this court trial because of racism, but he would still try. Atticus being able to be
honest with his kids is important because it shows that he is an honest person. An example of Tom
Robinson being honest could be when he was defending himself at the court trial. Tom did not lie at
his court trial; that has great importance because it shows that he is an honest person. Atticus and Tom
both being honest allows them both to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of Atticus being selfless is when he decided to help Tom Robinson. Atticus knew that he
would be separating himself socially and mentally, but he still decided to help Tom because he is a
selfless person. Tom is also selfless for many reasons; one reason is that he chose to help Mayella
Ewell. Tom Robinson knew that there were many consequences for a black man just being around a
white woman, but he decided to help her anyways with no pay because he is selfless. Tom does not
care if he gets in trouble or not; he helps her because he knows it is the right thing to do. With Atticus
and Tom both being selfless, their actions can allow each other to walk in each other s shoes. Similar
to Tom and Atticus walking in each other s shoes; Calpurnia and Walter Cunningham are also accurate
examples of the theme walking in someone s shoes . To illustrate my point, Calpurnia and Walter are
both different because of their family s incomes. Both Calpurnia and the Cunningham family have a
lower income compared to most others in the city of Maycomb. An example of Walter s family having
less money could be when the father has to pay back the Finch family in lumber because they do not
have the money to pay them. The father paying in lumber displays that the Cunningham family has
less money; that could separate Walter emotionally from the rest of his classmates. Walter could feel
like he is not as good as his classmates because of his family s lower income. He could also be
separated socially from his classmates, if his classmates left him out from their games because nobody
would want to play with the poor kid. Similarly, Calpurnia is a maid for the Finch family, so she
makes less money than the average family in Maycomb. Calpurnia is making less money because she
is a maid, and that allows her to walk in Walter s shoes because both of their families make less
money than average. Next, Calpurnia and Walter are able to walk in

Parental Loss At A Young Age
Introduction
Parental loss at a young age has been linked to heightened risk of psychological problems in
adulthood, especially depression and lower self confidence (Mack, 2001; Mireault Bond, 1992; Saler
Skolnick, 1992*) It has also been linked to several different health conditions including chronic pain,
hypertension, heart disease, and immune disorders (Luekin Lemery, 2004; McEwen Seeman, 2006).
The way a child grieves over a lost parent shapes the way that information is interpreted and stored in
the brain as well (Lupien, Ouellet Morin, Hupbach, Tu, Buss, Walker, et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002)
and it can influence whether or not life events are defined as stressful (Lupien et al., 2006). Studies
conducted concerning childhood bereavement suggest that early parental loss can lead to the
development of poorly regulated neuro emotional response systems (Brotman, Gouley, Klein,
Castellanos Pine, 2003) and the alteration of brain structures that help with memory and cognitive
functioning (Lupien et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002). Because of the impact of the loss, often times,
children need help to recover from the loss of their parent. There have been several studies conducted
on effective interventions and strategies when it comes to helping a child grieve and recover from the
loss of their loved one.
Stages of Grief and the Grieving Process
Grieving children commonly pass through five different stages of grief, although they do not follow a
particular pattern

That will also be true if the egg comes from the nucleus donor s mother, because mitochondria are
inherited maternally. Multiple clones might also be produced by transferring identical nuclei to eggs
from a single donor. If the somatic cell nucleus and the egg come from different individuals, they will
not be identical to the nuclear donor because the clones will have somewhat different mitochondrial
genes. Cloning by embryo splitting. This procedure begins with in vitro fertilization (IVF): the union
outside the woman s body of a sperm and an egg to generate a zygote. The zygote (from here onwards
also called an embryo) divides into two and then four identical cells. At this stage, the cells can be
separated and allowed to develop into separate but identical blastocysts, which can then be implanted
in a uterus. The limited developmental potential of the cells means that the procedure cannot be
repeated, so embryo splitting can yield only two identical mice and probably no more than four
identical humans. The DNA in embryo splitting is contributed by germ cells from two individuals the
mother who contributed the egg and the father who contributed the sperm. Thus, the embryos, like
those formed naturally or by standard IVF, have two parents. Their mitochondrial DNA is identical.
Because this method of cloning is identical with the natural formation of monozygotic twins and, in
rare cases, even quadruplets, it is not discussed in detail in this

Questions On The Motives Of Ministry
Section 3 The Motives of Ministry Lesson 1: Your Relationship with Jesus Christ Maintaining your
relationship with Jesus Christ is the most important thing you should hold onto. If you lose that, then it
is guaranteed that you will not be an effective minister. There is no way that you can operate under the
agape love and not know Jesus Christ for yourself. How can one explain the character of Jesus Christ
if you have not discovered them for yourself? Remain true to who God has called you to be. Ministry
does not begin with a love for people. It begins with a love for God and then that love overflows to the
children of God. If we minister to God s people only out of a humanistic love for people we will be
people pleasers rather ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you have ever been to a restaurant where they have a front cashier, like McDonalds or Wendy s, it is
the job of that front cashier to serve the customers as they enter into the building. If you are new and
just walk in from the streets, you will not be able to stand behind the counter and serve without
knowing the policy or the expectations from that company. For example, when going to Chick Fila,
for a while they were the only restaurant that will end their services with the statement, it was a
pleasure serving you or it was my pleasure . After leaving, I felt that I was not a burden to them or that
they enjoyed their job. So every time I go, I automatically expect to hear that phrase at the end. Now,
what if someone new walked in not knowing that was something they tell their customers. They could
change the entire atmosphere on how they serve and it would be noticed. Training, workshops,
meetings allow employees to stay up to date with the owner s policy. It allows them to remain in the
vision of the company. The same with you as a minister or preacher, you have to maintain your
relationship with God through prayer, fasting, studying and more in order to remain confident that you
are exactly where God wants you to be. Not only that, but to evaluate if you are becoming more of a
people pleaser or are you still a God pleaser . Don t feel bad if that is the case, because we have all

City A s City Hall Case Study
In a nation that advocates freedom of religion, this right does have its boundaries. While there are
traces of religion in our government, such as the pledge of allegiance and on the dollar bills, it does
not attempt to advocate any specific religion. In this case of a cross on City A s City Hall, it can raise
certain issues with the Establishment Clause. To sum up the Establishment Clause, it states that
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. Since the city hall falls under the
government s jurisdiction, it cannot promote a single religion. A similar situation occurred in the case
of County of Allegheny v. American Civil Liberties Union. This case occurred in 1989 and went to the
Supreme Court, due to two public

Traditional American Dating
Should young americans looking for a long term relationship use online dating services instead of
traditional american dating methods?
The concept of dating has dramatically changed and in the 21 century s age of self expression adults
might not want their children to stray from the traditional American dating standards they grew up in.
The concept of dating has changed because instead of dating the normal way, many Americans turn to

The Apology Of Plato Apology
At the beginning of The Apology, Socrates is directly speaking to the jury in Athens. In the beginning
of the apology Socrates speaks of accusations that have been made against him throughout his life.
There seems to be two different kinds of accusations. The first being biases accusations that have been
made on throughout his past and the other being recent accusations. Socrates explains he was accused
of being, a wise man, a student of all things in the sky and below the earth, who makes the worse
argument the stronger. He is also accused of persuading the individuals from the time he was a young
child. He sincerely believes he should not be at the trail, and that all these accusations are merely
false. Socrates is also accused of being a Sophist similar to Prodicus of Ceos and Hippias of Elis. Due
to rumors and prejudices, it seems that the jury has already decided the fate of Socrates, which is
ultimately death. As I read through the first part of his speech, I felt a sense of hopelessness as if a
room was filling with water with no way out. It is never enjoyable to be accused of something that I
may not have done, especially if the consequence is death. Furthermore, Socrates is also accused of
corrupting the youth, and not believing in the Athenian Gods. Basically, accused of being an atheist.
At this point there is dialogue between Socrates and a man named Meletus. In the past Meletus has
been known to be irresponsible along with bringing unsuitable cases to

Dna And Protein Synthesis Essay
DNA and Protein Synthesis
One of the most fundamental properties of any and all living organisms is that of reproduction. As we
all have learned, organisms inherit their genetic information defining their structure and functions
from their parents. Similarly, all cells come from preexisting cells, so the genetic information is
duplicated and pass from the parent to the new cell of each division.
DNA is the term that is used in biology, as well as several other parts of your everyday life. We all
know that DNA is a part of our bodies, but may wonder what exactly is DNA. DNA which is also
known as deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the genetic material of a cell. DNA is considered to be the
molecule of life, and aides in the determination of our physical characteristics. DNA is present in all
living organisms.
It is said that the process of protein synthesis is controlled by the DNA molecules. Proteins are used
for growth and repair, as well as enzymes. Thus, DNA is able to apply some controlling influence over
the cells as a whole, and ultimately the organism as well. In DNA, the segments which hold the vital
key to this process are referred to as the genes.
In the early 1940 s, two American geneticists by the names of George Wells Beadle, and Edward
Lawrie Tatum provided one of the first vital clues. While they were working with fungi, more
specifically Nuerospora and Penicillium, they found information regarding genes and how they direct
the formation of enzymes through the

The Problems Of Bread And The French Revolution At Bordeaux
Brace, Richard Munthe. The Problems of Bread and the French revolution at Bordeaux. The American
Historical Review 51, no. 4 (1946): 649 667.
Hard labor and low wages where common for the peasants of France during the revolutionary years.
Bordeaux a city in France was well known for its success in exports and imports. The ports of
Bordeaux where considered the best than any other city in France. Its yield of profit was significantly
more than any other city. The upper class prospered and working and peasantry suffered intense labor.
Brace argues that despite low wages and hard labor they were not the cause of the upcoming
revolution in 1789. Brace argues that high prices of bread and scarcity of grain due to bad harvests
where the cause of the civil unrest. Subsistence for peasantry was largely dependent on bread. When
the bread ran and out and starvation became a problem the working class looked to the government for
relief. Brace goes in depth on the government s failure to fix its grain problem, regulate bread prices,
and feed it citizens. Bread is the staple food of the majority of France, without it revolution was

The Negative Effects Of Downloading Music From The Music...
While few people may argue that downloading music from the internet should not be illegal, many
others realize that it is clearly an act of theft to steal the work of others. The amount of the music
being illegally downloaded has risen tremendously over the years causing music industries worldwide
to cripple and disappear. As many may say that downloading music illegally is not harmful in any
way, they are imperceptive to the fact that it is causing a large amount of decreasing revenue. As
Marielena Reyes states The immediate effects from online piracy can be the sales drop from CD labels
and signings with artists, which could then lead to the large sums of money music industries claim to
have lost. Downloading music does not have any negative effects to music industry finances, artists
credibility, and earrings. Reyes claims music industries will gain money off of online piracy due to the
fact that sales of CD labels and signings with artist will drop but later on this will only cause the music
industries to lose billions since that is what they depend on. Potential know loses to all American

Ethnocentrism vs. Cultural Relativism
Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism
Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism are two contrasting terms that are displayed by different people
all over the world. Simply put, ethnocentrism is defined as judging other groups from the perspective
of one s own cultural point of view. Cultural relativism, on the other hand, is defined as the view that
all beliefs are equally valid and that truth itself is relative, depending on the situation, environment,
and individual. Each of these ideas has found its way into the minds of people worldwide. The
difficult part is attempting to understand why an individual portrays one or the other. It is a question

From then on, however, anything involving Arabic culture was deemed that of terrorists.
This process does work both ways, however. Citizens of other nations have long made it clear that
they believe Americans are nothing but greedy, power hungry people. I have known several people
that visited France, for example, and were treated as though they did not belong because they were
Americans.
Cultural relativism means the exact opposite of ethnocentrism. It can be summed up as believing that
all religious, ethical, aesthetic, and political beliefs are completely relative to the individual within a
cultural identity (www.cultural relativism.com). This means that there is no definite right or wrong ,
but rather an ever changing set of values for each separate culture.
I have not personally witnessed cultural relativism, however I do know that it very well exists. An
example of this idea is in something such as equality in the workplace for both men and women. A
person following the cultural relativist perspective would say that it is wrong to deny women that
equality in the workplace in America today. The cultural relativist would also say, however, that there
is a culture where it is acceptable to limit certain areas of freedom from women.
These two intricate issues will continue to be a part of every society until the end of time. One can

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Theory
Introduction I believe that every one has different problem, because every one has different beliefs.
Therefore, solving our problems should be connecting with our beliefs. Rational emotive behavior
therapy is one of my favorite counseling theories because it helps the clients to change their feeling
acting via change the client thought.
Two Types of Disturbance Rational emotive behavior therapy argues that a defining characteristic of
humans is that we have desires. We want certain things to happen and other things not to happen.
However, we also a have a strong tendency to transform these desires into absolute musts. When we
hold rigid beliefs of this nature, we disturb ourselves. Thus, in REBT, rigidity is seen as being at the
core of psychologically disturbed responses to adversity (Neenan Dryden, 2010). Rational emotive
behavior therapy suggests that human beings defeat or disturb themselves in two main ways: (1) by
holding irrational beliefs about their self (ego disturbance) or (2) by holding irrational beliefs about
their emotional or physical comfort (discomfort disturbance). Frequently, the two go together. Ego
disturbance represents an upset to the self image. It results from holding negative self evaluations
about one s self such as I am no good and so on. These beliefs create ego anxiety. Thus, emotional
tension resulting from the perception that one s self or personal worth is threatened. Furthermore, it
may lead to other problems such as avoidance

great but there is no way that could ever happen. Even the most advanced cars will not know what the

  • 2. Contemporary Management Of Traditional Forest There are over 556 federally recognized tribes in the United States. Over eighteen million acres on 334 tribal reservation in 36 states are forests and woodlands (IFMAT). These forested ecosystems are vital to tribal communities therefore it is important to address frameworks offered for co managing resources. Despite the popular assumption, Indian tribes have managed lands for thousands of years prior to Euro American settlement. Tribal communities relied on traditional knowledge to sustain their livelihoods. Traditional ecological knowledge is passed down through generations, which include harvesting, use of fire, and sustaining livelihoods through the landscape and cultural practices. In recent years, traditional knowledge held by local and indigenous communities has gain international recognition that this knowledge can offer modern society restoration solutions for multiple ecosystems. • 3. How Did Benjamin Franklin Impact The World Benjamin Franklin, better known by some people as Ben was one of the many founding fathers who drafted the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Benjamin was born in Boston Massachusetts on January 17, 1706. He was the first man to create a volunteer fire department, and the first lending library. Ben was the last son of his father Josiah Franklin who was a candle and soap maker. He also was famous for his scientific theories, inventions such as the lightning rod, bifocals, and mapping. To start, Benjamin Franklin though well known for his politics Ben was famous word wide for his inventions. Most of his invention even though fixed up a bit is still used today. Some examples of these amazing inventions were swim fins, and the lightning rod. The swim fins unlike today s foot flippers, were on your hands. They were invented when Ben was at the age of eleven. • 4. Foucault s Power And Power Foucault s Power (Intro) Power, what is power? Is it a thing, something that can be controlled by a person or group? Or is it an omnipresent force with no clear distinction of what it is and what it is not? My views before being introduced to Foucault was: power is an attainable thing, but elusive. For example, it is said one has power, if one has enough money. Another example I commonly hear is that, the government (the State, the law, police) holds too much power. My final example is, in my opinion, power is usually viewed as a negative thing by ones that do not hold said power. Michel Foucault, a philosopher, challenged the traditional view of power by analyzing power in a series of studies of different forms of power, such as from his books: Madness and Civilization, Discipline and Punish, and The Order of Things to name a few. What Foucault found through his critical observations was that the concept of power in the traditional views were too narrow and specific; not a singularity composed of only negative aspects but also a dualism that leans much heavier on the side of positivity than vice versa and an omnipresent force (or rather relationships) that may be used through various techniques but not owned at all. DEFINITION OF FOUCAULT S POWER I will use this section to elaborate on each of the five points that according to Clare O Farrell s, a scholar at QUT (Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia), key concepts page, on her website ... Christmas in America profoundly investigates the degree of bonds established in society, including the relationship among slave and master where even slaves could receive charity during holidays. Nyla was chosen for this case study because she seems to be a very interesting young girl. We attend the same church and she has always greeted me with a pleasant smile and hug. Nyla appears to have a sophisticated vocabulary, playful character, and seems to be well behaved for a four year old. I am very excited about observing her for this case study. It has been suggested that fathers attachment role during the preschooler years helps to challenge the child in a supportive context that complements the mother s role in caring and comforting (Roggman et al. 2002). Nyla s teacher also indicated that when Nyla gets too hot playing she will take a break and hold conversations with teachers. Once she is cooled off, she is back to playing with her friends. Towards the beginning of the story, Ophelia s discovery of the fawn and the revelation of her being, The daughter of the king of the underworld, shows how she uses escapism as a means of creating a fictitious world that helps her avoid the new, horrible life that she endures under her stepfather. However, the adventures that this fantasy sends her on creates a strain in her relationships with her mother and stepfather, which becomes evident when her mother reprimands her saying, You have disappointed me, and your father too. Furthermore, when the faun gives her a mandrake root as a remedy for her mother s illness, it demonstrates how Ophelia uses escapism as an outlet for her fear, and as a means of feeling like she has some control over whether her mother lives or dies. However, when the mother burns the mandrake root shouting, Magic does not exist. Not for you, me or anyone else, and then immediately dies during childbirth, it represents how ... In respect to their different approach towards shape, room, and work of art, the differences in their styles resulted in dissimilar descriptions. Renaissance and Baroque seem to concentrate towards the treatment of space, appearance, and color. This uniqueness affects the description of a painting and therefore it cannot be seen. More so, than in comparing Perugino s Christ delivering the Keys of the Kingdom to St. Peter from the Early Renaissance to Caravaggio s exchange of St. Paul from the Baroque style. The Baroque style, used by Caravaggio, was the absolute opposite of any Renaissance painter that had lived before him and because of this; it was probably the reason why he became the most radical artist of his time. He deserted the rules that had guided a century of artists before him and because of his theatrical break in style from the Italian Renaissance; he carefully brings a completely distinct treatment of narrative. Caravaggio s action of form in his Conversion of St. Paul is extraordinarily different from Perugino s work of art. One of the choices he decided to use was instead of outlining Paul and his horse with lines, Caravaggio abandons this unique style and adds movement by using a painterly style in which he uses paint to create an image and not rigid outlines. He uses color and value to produce a unique form, causing a sense of movement in the figures. They are not locked in time like Perugino s figures and express the exact opposite message of classical, passive figures. These are strong, vibrant, and emotional figures. Perhaps the emotional aspect of the figures is created by Caravaggio s introduction of dramatic light and dark effects, termed tenebrism. This technique was a great breakthrough in art, which added great emotional effects and mystery to the art. Caravaggio doesn t light Paul with a clear even light like Perugino ... • 12. The Contributions Of Frederick Douglass By Frederick Douglas While being educated and defending himself against Mr. Covey were important events in Douglass life, the most important turning point was the day he was able to earn money from work. Being able to earn money reminded him about his plan to attain freedom, made him an important asset to his master, and made freedom a more attainable feat with his ability to hire his time. Earning money allows Douglass to remember the goal he had almost forgotten, freedom. Since Frederick Douglass becomes a such a skilled calker he is able to, command the highest wages given to the most experienced calkers, and he was, now of some importance to [his] master. (92) Since Douglass is giving all his wages to his master, Mr. Hugh, he is allowed to be free during his leisure time. During this time he is reminded of his desire to be free. During these leisure times, these old notions of slavery would steal over me again (92) Douglass says again because while in the employment of Mr. Gardener, he only had time to think about his life and how to protect it. Having more tasks to do than time to do it, he was continuously working, and at times, retaliating against his white overseers. Now that he is living relatively comfortably, it heightens his yearning to be a free man, ...whenever my condition improved...it only increased my desire to be free... • 15. The Capodistria In The Alexandria Quartet By Lawrence Durrell Lawrence Durrell was famous for writing the Alexandria Quartet. The first novel in this Quartet is entitled Justine. Durrell writes his novel through the narrator. In this novel, narrator writes about Alexandria while he is in Greece, so he was using his memory of his past experiences in Alexandria. In the novel, it is shown that Durrell sees Alexandria through the Cosmopolitan Alexandria, where different people with different races were able to live peacefully together, the poor Arab quarters that the lower classes live in and Justine as a resemblance of Alexandria. Durrell writes about the Cosmopolitan Alexandria through the narrator of the novel. The narrator in the novel writes about his experience in Alexandria and about his old friends who represents part of the Cosmopolitan Alexandria. • 16. Atticus s Honesty In this journal, I will be evaluating the theme of walking in someone s shoes. An example of the theme walking in someone s shoes is with Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch. To start, Atticus is able to walk in Tom s shoes because they are both honest. One example of honesty would be when Atticus told his kids he could not win this court trial because of racism, but he would still try. Atticus being able to be honest with his kids is important because it shows that he is an honest person. An example of Tom Robinson being honest could be when he was defending himself at the court trial. Tom did not lie at his court trial; that has great importance because it shows that he is an honest person. Atticus and Tom both being honest allows them both to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of Atticus being selfless is when he decided to help Tom Robinson. Atticus knew that he would be separating himself socially and mentally, but he still decided to help Tom because he is a selfless person. Tom is also selfless for many reasons; one reason is that he chose to help Mayella Ewell. Tom Robinson knew that there were many consequences for a black man just being around a white woman, but he decided to help her anyways with no pay because he is selfless. Tom does not care if he gets in trouble or not; he helps her because he knows it is the right thing to do. With Atticus and Tom both being selfless, their actions can allow each other to walk in each other s shoes. Similar to Tom and Atticus walking in each other s shoes; Calpurnia and Walter Cunningham are also accurate examples of the theme walking in someone s shoes . To illustrate my point, Calpurnia and Walter are both different because of their family s incomes. Both Calpurnia and the Cunningham family have a lower income compared to most others in the city of Maycomb. An example of Walter s family having less money could be when the father has to pay back the Finch family in lumber because they do not have the money to pay them. The father paying in lumber displays that the Cunningham family has less money; that could separate Walter emotionally from the rest of his classmates. Walter could feel like he is not as good as his classmates because of his family s lower income. He could also be separated socially from his classmates, if his classmates left him out from their games because nobody would want to play with the poor kid. Similarly, Calpurnia is a maid for the Finch family, so she makes less money than the average family in Maycomb. Calpurnia is making less money because she is a maid, and that allows her to walk in Walter s shoes because both of their families make less money than average. • 17. Parental Loss At A Young Age Introduction Parental loss at a young age has been linked to heightened risk of psychological problems in adulthood, especially depression and lower self confidence (Mack, 2001; Mireault Bond, 1992; Saler Skolnick, 1992*) It has also been linked to several different health conditions including chronic pain, hypertension, heart disease, and immune disorders (Luekin Lemery, 2004; McEwen Seeman, 2006). The way a child grieves over a lost parent shapes the way that information is interpreted and stored in the brain as well (Lupien, Ouellet Morin, Hupbach, Tu, Buss, Walker, et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002) and it can influence whether or not life events are defined as stressful (Lupien et al., 2006). Studies conducted concerning childhood bereavement suggest that early parental loss can lead to the development of poorly regulated neuro emotional response systems (Brotman, Gouley, Klein, Castellanos Pine, 2003) and the alteration of brain structures that help with memory and cognitive functioning (Lupien et al., 2006; Vanitallie, 2002). Because of the impact of the loss, often times, children need help to recover from the loss of their parent. There have been several studies conducted on effective interventions and strategies when it comes to helping a child grieve and recover from the loss of their loved one. Stages of Grief and the Grieving Process Grieving children commonly pass through five different stages of grief, although they do not follow a particular pattern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Multiple clones might also be produced by transferring identical nuclei to eggs from a single donor. If the somatic cell nucleus and the egg come from different individuals, they will not be identical to the nuclear donor because the clones will have somewhat different mitochondrial genes. Cloning by embryo splitting. This procedure begins with in vitro fertilization (IVF): the union outside the woman s body of a sperm and an egg to generate a zygote. The zygote (from here onwards also called an embryo) divides into two and then four identical cells. At this stage, the cells can be separated and allowed to develop into separate but identical blastocysts, which can then be implanted in a uterus. The limited developmental potential of the cells means that the procedure cannot be repeated, so embryo splitting can yield only two identical mice and probably no more than four identical humans. The DNA in embryo splitting is contributed by germ cells from two individuals the mother who contributed the egg and the father who contributed the sperm. Thus, the embryos, like those formed naturally or by standard IVF, have two parents. Their mitochondrial DNA is identical. As we all have learned, organisms inherit their genetic information defining their structure and functions from their parents. Similarly, all cells come from preexisting cells, so the genetic information is duplicated and pass from the parent to the new cell of each division. DNA is the term that is used in biology, as well as several other parts of your everyday life. We all know that DNA is a part of our bodies, but may wonder what exactly is DNA. DNA which is also known as deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the genetic material of a cell. DNA is considered to be the molecule of life, and aides in the determination of our physical characteristics. DNA is present in all living organisms. It is said that the process of protein synthesis is controlled by the DNA molecules. Proteins are used for growth and repair, as well as enzymes. Thus, DNA is able to apply some controlling influence over the cells as a whole, and ultimately the organism as well. In DNA, the segments which hold the vital key to this process are referred to as the genes. In the early 1940 s, two American geneticists by the names of George Wells Beadle, and Edward Lawrie Tatum provided one of the first vital clues. Ethnocentrism vs. Cultural Relativism Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism are two contrasting terms that are displayed by different people all over the world. Simply put, ethnocentrism is defined as judging other groups from the perspective of one s own cultural point of view. Cultural relativism, on the other hand, is defined as the view that all beliefs are equally valid and that truth itself is relative, depending on the situation, environment, and individual. Each of these ideas has found its way into the minds of people worldwide. The difficult part is attempting to understand why an individual portrays one or the other. Citizens of other nations have long made it clear that they believe Americans are nothing but greedy, power hungry people. I have known several people that visited France, for example, and were treated as though they did not belong because they were Americans. Cultural relativism means the exact opposite of ethnocentrism. It can be summed up as believing that all religious, ethical, aesthetic, and political beliefs are completely relative to the individual within a cultural identity (www.cultural relativism.com). • 36. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy Theory Introduction I believe that every one has different problem, because every one has different beliefs. Therefore, solving our problems should be connecting with our beliefs. Rational emotive behavior therapy is one of my favorite counseling theories because it helps the clients to change their feeling acting via change the client thought. Two Types of Disturbance Rational emotive behavior therapy argues that a defining characteristic of humans is that we have desires. We want certain things to happen and other things not to happen. However, we also a have a strong tendency to transform these desires into absolute musts. When we hold rigid beliefs of this nature, we disturb ourselves. Thus, in REBT, rigidity is seen as being at the core of psychologically disturbed responses to adversity (Neenan Dryden, 2010). Rational emotive behavior therapy suggests that human beings defeat or disturb themselves in two main ways: (1) by holding irrational beliefs about their self (ego disturbance) or (2) by holding irrational beliefs about their emotional or physical comfort (discomfort disturbance). Frequently, the two go together. Ego disturbance represents an upset to the self image. It results from holding negative self evaluations about one s self such as I am no good and so on. These beliefs create ego anxiety. Thus, emotional tension resulting from the perception that one s self or personal worth is threatened. Furthermore, it may lead to other problems such as avoidance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That would affect approximately 3.5 million truck drivers, and 5 million people who support the truck driving industry. Selfless driving sounds pretty great but there is no way that could ever happen. Even the most advanced cars will not know what the other drivers are thinking.
