Mute, Motionless, and Beautiful
Gunda, Divya s four year old son was playing in the living room happily. He looked at his mother
again and again. She looked different like she was getting ready to go out. He liked going out not just
with her but anybody per se. Sometimes he would just cry in a high pitch tone until the concerned
person would agree. Of course there won t be any tears. Everybody knew he would just throw dry
tantrums. When he was angry, he would bite everyone around him and smash things. When he was in
a happy mood, he was like a sweet boy. Give him whatever he would want, then he would kiss you all
the time. He was playing with his toys until Divya put on her shoes. Then he ran and chained her right
leg with cute little hands. ``Mom, I want to come with you. ``I am not going anywhere. ``You are
lying. Then why are you looking so pretty? Why are you wearing this saree. I know this saree is for
special occasion. Divya told him the truth that she was getting ready to see the doctor. she was 8
months pregnant. She wanted to take him with her. But she did not know how long it would take.
Sometimes it would take hours when hospital was filled with patients. She was afraid that he would
fall asleep and it would be difficult to carry him. So she told him that if he accompanied her, then the
doctor would give him injection. ``I know doctor will give you injection not me. He thought for a
while and replied. ``Why would doctor give me injection? I am a big girl. Doctors give

Decomposition And Decomposition
Comparison of Decomposition and Street People: How Dangerous are They?
The two texts provided are Decomposition , a poem by Zulfikar Ghose, and Street People: How
Dangerous are They? , an article for Survival magazine by Loren W. Christensen. The former is about
a man who is describing, in hindsight, his experience photographing a homeless man on the street,
while the latter is about how to protect oneself from dangerous people on the street while travelling or
in an unfamiliar location. They both deal with experiences relating to street people , and have some
things in common, as well as key differences. In this comparison, I will try and relate the texts to one
another and analyse where they are similar, as well as their points of ... Show more content on

The first article has a more sympathetic tone towards street people, and questions if we are actually
compassionate to their situations or just feel pity because that s how we think we should feel. Such
sights are so common that we have learned to automatically filter them and treat them as though they
are perfectly normal and have been around forever ( he lies veined into stone, a fossil man ), when in
fact, if you think about it, it s depressing and shocking that there are people who are suffering because
they don t have homes, families, or a spray to support themselves. There is an implication that in
admiring the art of other people s sadness, we overlook the circumstances that led to the production of
the art ( his head ... chides me now for my presumption ). This can especially be seen with
photographs as even with paintings such as the Mona Lisa, people wonder about the mystery of the
subject, but with photographs, even though they are a perfect realistic depiction of the world around
us, it somehow makes us desensitised to their real plight.
On the other hand, the second article is more aggressive and almost pejorative in its voice. The writer
admits that they are generalising most people who are homeless ( it should be said that not all of them
are drug users, thieves and muggers ), but states that it is safer to generalise negatively in the interest
of one s self preservation. One gets the sense that such people live in

Phasor Measurement Unit Essay
Large scale smart grid initiatives require fast and accurate monitoring of power system network.
Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is one of the major components which are increasingly deployed in
the power system network to provide the necessary infrastructure to cater smart grid requirements.
PMUs provide time synchronized measurement of voltage and current phasors (Phadke and Thorp
2008) from different nodes of the power system network, which is used for monitoring and control.
NASPI (March 2015) and NERC (September 2016) suggest use of phasor data from the PMUs to
perform verification of dynamic models as well as validating parameters of power plant models. A
parameter identification toolbox for power system models developed using the ... Show more content

The mismatch in PMU measurements and dynamic simulators lead to anomalous result for application
such as event location, oscillation detection, islanding detection, and dynamic line rating as indicated
in (Zhao et al. 2015). While PMUs can measure and time synchronize the output phasor with great
accuracy, the internal signal processing may utilize several cycles of the input signal measurements to
calculate each phasor values. Thus, even if the PMU report phasor each cycle, the measurements is not
representative of the current cycle but of a number of the preceding and following cycles depending
on the sliding window of data used for the phasor estimation. This typically smooths out/filters faster
changes that may be present in the simulation output, rendering PMU output not comparable to
simulated response for the same disturbance when fast changing responses are present (applicable for
a very small time constant parameters in the model of the physical system). Phasor estimation can be
performed in electromagnetic simulators in which point of wave signal is available. Phasor estimation
of a point of wave signal is applied in electromagnetic simulator using enhanced DFT based algorithm
in (Romano, Pignati, and Paolone 2015). A mechanism for streaming simulated phasors from TSAT in
C37.118 format is proposed in (Zheng, Howell, and Wang 2015). However, these phasors do not
reflect the PMU characteristics as

Core Components Of Process Management And Competitive...
1.0 Introduction
Will you tackle any type of operation management to enhance your organization or gain competitive
advantages compared to your competitor? The process management will be one of the core
components for operating system that able enterprise to gain competitive advantages among their
competitors (Underdahl, 2011). As process management is one of the 13 operation decision strategic,
so it would not strange when organization has its own process management to meets or exceeds
customer requirement.
Process management is not only included the process focus strategic and repetitive focus strategic, but
also included product focus strategic and mass customization strategic. However, this four process
strategies has slightly difference among each other, but the main purpose to achieve competitive
advantages are the same. Organization should choose a strategy that best suit as it will has a long term
effect on efficiency and flexibility on organization s operation.
Process management often concerns with competitive advantages in terms of high customer
responsiveness, such as minimizes unnecessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among those managements, there is a management which plays an important role in a company that is
process management. Process management play an important role this is because product quality is
depends on the processes quality. (Hassan, Nawaz, Shaukat, Hassan, 2014) If a company cannot
perform well in the process quality, therefore the product cannot consider as a quality product.
According to Hassan et al (2014), they stated that the process of handling and controlling is important
in the improvement product quality. Besides that, they also mention that process management deals
with how an organization applies techniques such as statistical process control, prevention orientation,

Essay On Direct Observation Of Children
1) Evaluation tool(s) being used (Ex: Pre/post testing, questionnaires, rubric, checklist) The evaluation
of coughing and sneezing technique will use return demonstration to make sure children understand it.
The teacher will use direct observation of the behavior to evaluate the children s understanding of the
skill (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Direct observation is done by using the senses to observe the
children (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Then a rubric will be used to record the observation and how
well the children did. Rubrics are often used to determine how the children preformed (Miller
Stoeckel, 2016, p. 324). Then, to evaluate cold and flu symptoms the game will address one and the

Direct observation of the children was used as direct evaluation because it was an appropriate way to
evaluate the children. The game was also used to directly evaluated the children because peer notes
were taking and then used to fill out a rubric. Direct questioning was used as a form of indirect
measurement to evaluated what the children learned about handwashing. 2) How is data being
collected? Data is being collected by visually watching and keeping track of how many children
learned how to cough and sneeze during the exercise. At the end we will have each kid show us and
we can record the amount that learned all the steps. Data is also being collected by directly
questioning the children to assess what they have learned. 3) How will you analyze your evaluation
data? I will analyze my data by looking to see if 75 % of the class successful learned how to cough
and sneeze properly. I will do the same for cold and flu symptoms and for handwashing techniques. If
I was successful, over 75 % of the children should have learned what was being taught. The total of
children that were successful will be divided by the total number of children to see if it was a

Reading Between the Lines Essays
William Blake s poem The Lamb is a simplistic poem until you read deeper into it and find a powerful
and uplifting religious message about creation. Blake is able to draw people into his poem by having a
young innocent child as the speaker, asking rhetorical questions to a lamb. Although he also throws
irony into the second stanza by having the young child answer his own questions, asked in the first
stanza. The poem has a tone so sweet and soft that it is not offensive in any means and is not affected
by cynicism of the older generations. Blake s poem is one of the most famous poems in English
literature because of the spiritual message left between the lines. Blake chose to have a child as the
speaker in his poem, he made that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Gualdoni) The second stanza expresses a tone of joy whenever the child ironically reveals the
answers with such a strong faith in his words. With the lines I ll tell thee , and He calls himself a Lamb
, the child shows excitement and joy for discovering a larger existence; God, has created this lamb that
s in front of him. The same line also consists of a paradox because he calls himself the lamb and a
child at the same time, when Jesus is the symbol of the lamb. (Moore) Blake s poem has a theme of
spirituality, peace and creation. These ideas are created by words used such as God , bless thee , and
give thee life . (Gualdoni) The description of the stream where the lamb is at expresses the kindness of
God s creation. (Moore)Blake also used allusions in his poem to help represent the themes. Christ is
often referred to as a shepherd in the bible which displays spirituality. The lamb by itself is a symbol
of peace, meekness, and sacrifice. Together the lamb laying with the lion is also a sign of peace.
(Gualdoni) Blake uses a metaphor to compare Jesus to a lamb. Jesus was God s sacrifice to creation,
he was the sacrificial lamb, and Jesus was sacrificed on the cross to create more peace in the world.
The poem was written as a religious hymn, with two stanzas. Each stanza has five rhymed couplets,
the first two and last two lines of each stanza are viewed as the chorus of a song or a refrain

Soldiers Alone Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1: The beginning of the story starts when a Private from the Union named Henry, overhears a
conversation between two soldiers, one of them named Jim. Henry overhears Jim s conversation with
another soldier that they will be going into the war the next day. Reluctantly, the people that Jim was
talking to gathered up and started planning out their own action in war. However, another soldier
accuses Jim of lying, because he explains that they did not even move in the last two weeks. Henry on
the other hand, believes what Jim says and is surprised that he is going to war the next day, because he
had explained to the readers that he dreamed of going to battle for a long time, and now it is true. He

to be depressed because he had done nothing for the last few months when waiting to go to war. He
comes to the point that he feels like he cannot do anything at all, and can t be the hero he wants to be.
He also comes to the point that he finds out that math and science cannot help him in everything, such
as determining if he is a coward or not. Having noticed that he cannot determine on math and science
to help him find out if he is a coward or not, he decides to go find an opportunity to help him prove if
he is a coward or not. Trying to find an opportunity, he tried to measure himself to the other soldiers of
his camp and tried to understand what the other soldiers was thinking about. He explains that he also
afraid to show the other soldiers his concern about the war. He then thinks about two theories about
his own camp as a whole. His first theory is that he believes that all the soldiers in his camps are
heroes. However, at some times, he ignored the positive theories he had about them and saw them
instead as a wandered someone who is afraid to do something. His emotions about them made him
feel strange, especially about the people who talk about the excitement of the battle that is going to

%chapter{Conclusions and Future Work} chapter{CONCLUSIONS AND FUTURE WORK}
label{chapter:Conclusions} section{Conclusions} In this dissertation a multimedia big data analysis
framework for semantic information management and retrieval is presented. It contains three coherent
components, namely multimedia semantic representation, multimedia concept classification and
summarization, and multimedia temporal semantics analysis and ensemble learning. These three
components are seamlessly integrated and act as a coherent entity to provide essential functionalities
in the proposed information management and retrieval framework. More specifically: egin{itemize}
item A novel correlation based feature analysis method is presented to derive HCFGs for multimedia
semantic retrieval on mobile devices. The proposed framework explores the mutual information from
multiple modalities by performing correlation analysis for each feature pair and separating the original
feature set into different HCFGs by using the affinity propagation algorithm at the feature level. Then,
a novel fusion scheme is proposed to fuse the testing scores from selected HCFGs to obtain optimal
performance. Finally, an iPad application is developed based on our proposed system with a user
feedback processing system to refine the retrieval results. item A hierarchical disaster image
classification scheme based on textual and visual information fusion is proposed for enhancing

There is no question that crime has had and continues to hinder society. The criminal justice system is
an intricate part of society and is essential that this system remains capable of adequately dealing with
the latest crime trends. It was the establishment of the consistency with the Social Commission that
the number or crimes should become a priority so that the facts and statistics developed can be readily

lucratively and easy means of criminal activity. The criminal justice system and citizens are both
affected by this change. Technology has progressed so rapidly over the past decade alone that
criminals are committing crimes internationally, and this is making the job of law enforcement
agencies even more difficult, more time consuming, and more dangerous. The criminal justice system
does still have corruption from different agencies, especially the law enforcement. Today,

Essay on The Beginning of the N.F.L.
The Beginning of the N.F.L.
The year was 1920 and pro football was in a state of confusion. The three main problems that led to all
the confusion were, salaries rising, players jumping from team to team and the use of players still
enrolled in college. So, on August 20, 1920, a group of men representing the four current pro teams
met. When the day was done the American Professional Football Conference was born.
The A.P.F.C. was formed to make one governing body over pro football. Then, on September 17,
1920, a second organizational meeting was held. At the second meeting the following teams attended:
the Akron Pros; Canton Bulldogs; Cleveland Ohio Indians; Dayton Ohio Triangles; Decatur Illinois

On September 26, the first game, which featured an APFA team was played at Rock Island s Douglas
Park. A crowd of 800 watched the Independents defeat the St. Paul Ideals 48 0. A week later, October
3, the first game matching two APFA teams was held. At Triangle Park, Dayton defeated Columbus 14
0, with Lou Partlow of Dayton scoring the first touchdown in a game between Association teams. The
same day, Rock Island defeated Muncie 45 0. At the league meeting in Akron, April 30, the
championship of the 1920 season was awarded to the Akron Pros.
The APFA was later reorganized, they realized that Jim Thorpe was a better player then president. So,
they picked Joe Carr as the new president. Carr moved the Association s headquarters to Columbus,
drafted a league constitution and by laws, gave teams territorial rights, restricted player movements,
developed membership criteria for the franchises, and issued standings for the first time. This made it
that the APFA would have a clear champion. The league was also increased to 22 teams. It was during
this year that the Green Bay Packers were granted a franchise. It was during the 1921 season, that
Fritz Pollard was made the first black head coach in the history of Pro Football.
The Chicago Statleys who would later become the Bears were crowned the 1921 league champions.

Gender Diverty And Gender Poverty In Japan And Japan
Japan and Germany are two influential core nations with immense industrial and technological power,
but these two countries regardless face issues within their economy and society. Several of Germany s
problems include the absence of government aid, health risks, and the economic hardships women
face. In Japan, their issues involve the unbalance distribution of labor, women underrepresented in
high ranking jobs, and the impact a parent s financial status has on their child s future. Although
Germany and Japan are two separate countries, it is a surprise that they share a few similar issues
relating to poverty and gender equality. The increase of child poverty will be the first issue to be
discussed. The other major issue is the health risks faced by both Germany and Japan. Finally, the last
issue will be the inequalities women face in their male dominated countries.
Child poverty is a growing concern in both Japan and Germany with the number of children living in
poverty growing at a constant rate. Due to child poverty, children in both countries are less likely to
continue their education and instead drop out. As mentioned in the article, Child poverty in Japan:
Hidden blight, poverty increase the risk of their children dropping out of school due to the inability to
afford the essential supplies that ensure a successful school life. In Germany, several of poverty
stricken parents do not encourage their child to pursue a higher level education, as a result, fifty

the strong Chinese cultural atmosphere. Although being thousands miles away from China, Chinese
culture is still preserved well in Singapore. To preserve and pass on the excellent concepts, customs

In the meantime, the media spread the dialects, thoughts and customs to the society, making Chinese
culture have a greater influence in Singapore. Mandarin is generally propagated through many
Chinese TV media and radio channels in Singapore; besides, there are also some dialect news
broadcasting channels. Additionally, newspapers like Lianhe Zaobao, the most popular Chinese
newspaper that circulates in Singapore, which mainly publishes China news, Chinese culture as well
as Chinese literature, make the Chinese culture into people s daily life (Anonymous, 2010).
Last but not least, it is actually families which pass on the culture and live with it as the most
fundamental practitioners in the process of passing on the culture. Many Chinese Singaporeans speak
Mandarin or dialects like Cantonese among family members. That really helps the kids to practice the
language every day and enhance their capability of speaking their own language. During Chinese
festivals, regardless of whether they have public holidays or not, traditional activities will always be
held in family. For example, the Chinese Singaporean may eat moon cakes to celebrate the Mid
autumn Festival. Furthermore, parents will teach their kids about the good concept of family

Through the whole of history s existence, religions, philosophies and personal belief systems have
been around to shape and mold life into what it is today. Religions all around the world have their own
belief systems, sometimes even more than one. And though one religion or philosophy may develop in
a specific corner of the world, there is always at least two paths they could travel. A system can either
remain personally sacred to the founders, themselves, or it may become a popular belief to other areas

Though Confucianism started out in the Chinese Dynasties, it would later come to be spread through
Korea, Japan, and Vietnam as well. And though it spread, the idea remained a solid belief system to
the Chinese people, practiced for many years to come. The leadership was passed on from Confucius,
to scholars down the line, preserved in both the minds and hearts of its followers, but also texts such
as the Analects, Mencius, and The Doctrine of the Mean. These books held within them the beliefs,
moral standards, and teachings of Confucianism itself. Rather different from the other religions and
philosophies of its time, Confucianism s belief system was based around the idea of social order in
everyday life. What Confucius believed to be true was the simple fact that by nature, everyone is good
. And so, the idea went that everyone could maintain their goodness by learning to live with proper
decorum. In order to live as such, however, Confucius decreed Five Proper Relationships to share with
one s fellow comrades. In no particular order, the Fine Relationships where as such: father to son,
older brother to younger brother, husband to wide, ruler to subject, and friend level with friend. Of

Crash safety ratings for the passenger vehicle means the rank that vehicle get after passing through the
entire crash safety analysis test. For the successful sell or increase demand of vehicle, it must have
crash safety rating high. For any vehicle buyer safety is the main concern. How much safe the vehicle
is determines the demand of the vehicle in the market. Crash safety analysis test examines the
different parts of the vehicle to check if all parts are functioning well or not. It includes the test of seat
belts, head restraints, anti lock brakes, traction control, all wheel drive etc. So, the vehicle getting

risk their life. But for some extent there are some factors that impact on the importance of crash safety
ratings for different buyers and that are the age, education, geographical region of the customer, etc.
The customer living in the mountain region is most likely to prefer high crash safety rating cars as
compared to those living in plain region. Also, the customer who loves stylish cars may choose low

The Effect of Task Complexity on the Relation Between...
1. Introduction
In this study I want to look at the effect of task complexity on the relationship between team based
incentives and performance. I will thus try to find whether task complexity is a moderating variable in
the relation between incentives and performance and specifically try to find whether this effect differs
for individual incentives and team incentives.
When looking at incentive contracts in management accounting literature, usually theories from the
field of economics and psychology are combined. In some circumstances these theories can lead to
quite opposing predictions of the effect of incentives on performance. In general incentive contracts
are a decision influencing control tool used to make sure that people s ... Show more content on

For example Lazear (2000) empirically finds in a manufacturing environment that pay for
performance increases productivity with 44%. On the other hand Bonner et al. (2000) find that only in
about 50 percent of the experiments they examined, financial performance led to improvements in
productivity. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be
dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically in
their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task increases
(relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of incentives on
performance decrease. Bailey and Fessler (2011) also find that monetary incentives are more effective
when the task is less complex. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies on financial
incentives and performance Jenkins et al. (1999) find that financial incentives are generally related to
output quantity but not to quality. Furthermore, they find task type is independent of the relation
between financial incentives and performance. If the performance on a complex task is more difficult
to measure, the agent s effort thus has less influence on the performance measure (more noise, less
sensitivity) and the measure is less effective.
All the above studies are concerned with individual incentives. Apart from research on individual
incentives there is also a lot

The Accounting Principles Of Financial Statements And...
Accounting in health care has profound effects on financial statements, and knowing the necessary
components to conducting financial reports and balancing the assets is vital. Many things contribute to
the overall foundation of the balance sheet and valuations for the health care organization. A lot of
moving parts are required to keep health care organizations running and afloat for the long term. One
must understand the accounting concepts, and methods, terminology, in order to explain the various
uses on how they apply to balance sheets. Valuing assets and Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles (GAAP) method is effective for the right valuation as they will be explained in the
following paragraphs.
Differences between Cash and Accrual Accounting
Cash accounting is a simple method which deals with revenue and expense within the health care
organization and personal uses. This method can easily apply to everyday people as several people
have a personal checkbook; they use to keep track of their expenses and depositing money every so
often. Using a checkbook is how we withdraw money for expenses which is one standard way to pay
for items. Cash basis accounting is also applied when reporting salaries for physicians or registered
nurses as an expense and this would allow no revenue of patients treated by physicians until the
following year when profits are collected. As good as method this is for people, accountants strive for
a better way to assess the organizations

Depression And Its Effects On Children
Depression in Adolescents The mind is full of emotions, knowledge, memories, and much more. The
adolescent stage is very complex where a child is attacked with different emotions and events where
they begin to feel excluded from society. In this stage, teens start using their mind for moral behavior
and decision making. This is when children, begin puberty and start an irregular hormonal stage. As
physical characteristics change in a teen s body also does the perception of themselves start to develop
in their mind. For example, when teenagers are not acknowledged by their peers they begin to exclude
themselves from the outside world. Additionally, if the teen feels out of place they start isolating
themselves from society and start a long journey of depressive thoughts. Depression is a mood
disorder that causes an individual to feel sad and isolated. Depression is a mental disorder that controls
the ability to feel content. There may be many reasons why depressive thoughts may occur. An article
by Rick Ingram, particularly displays that the vulnerability work in parent s psychopathology may be
a high risk factor for their child s depression. This theory can be dated back to different research on
psychopathology like schizophrenia research. Psychopathology research sought after a genetic link
between parent and child psychopathology. The data from the research showed that there was higher
risk of depression with children that have mothers dealing with depression. The

Challenged Facing Girl Child in Developing Countries
INTRODUCTION
According to the article Convention on the Rights of the Child (20 November 1989) 1, a child is
defined as every human being below the age of 18 years unless, under the law applicable to the child,
majority (or adult status ) is attained earlier; in other words, unless the relevant laws recognize an
earlier age.
Issues like gender discrimination, domestic violence, sexual abuse, child labour, human trafficking,
health and education, just to name a few, tend to be adversely skewed when closely examining the life
of the girl child.

The Lesson Of The Moth Literary Analysis
Poets and Authors use main characters and genres to build a central message of their literary work.
Sometimes different genres can be used to build the same theme. In the lesson of the moth by the poet
Don Marquis, there is a common theme throughout the whole poem, what is it like to have something
worth dying for. He uses a moth, the protagonist, to express the theme. In a similar way, Daniel Keyes,
author of Flowers for Algernon , a short story, uses Charlie Gordon, an intellectually challenged man,
who wants to be smart, to gradually build upon the theme of having a dream worth dying for. Both the
poet and the author convey a central message through a protagonist in their work. In the lesson of the

Brown V. Board Of Education Of Topeka
Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), was a landmark United States Supreme
Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and
white students to be unconstitutional. The decision overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of
1896, which allowed state sponsored segregation, insofar as it applied to public education. Handed
down on May 17, 1954, the Warren Court s unanimous (9 0) decision stated that separate educational
facilities are inherently unequal. As a result, de jure racial segregation was ruled a violation of the
Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. This ruling
paved the way for integration and was a major victory of the Civil Rights Movement.[1] However, the
decision s fourteen pages did not spell out any sort of method for ending racial segregation in schools,
and the Court s second decision in Brown II only ordered states to desegregate with all deliberate

also I was flabbergasted by the lack of professionalism that was present in this courtroom. I m not sure
if it s a court in Paradise problem, or something that is observed at other courtrooms, however, I m

Imatinib Marketed By Novartis And Onyx Pharmaceutical
As technology advances, advances in the pharmaceutical industry increase as well. While most
companies use the mentality of screening drugs that show the most binding affinity or particularity of
drug applicants to a single defined target, this is not always the best way of doing things. Many off
target activities or multi targeted particularities have been successful in targeted therapeutics. For
example, Imatinib marketed by Novartis and Sorafenib co developed and co marketed by Bayer and
Onyx Pharmaceuticals and Nexavar have shown that looking at the broader spectrum of biological
context of how a specific agent works is very important. Increasing importance of translational and
clinical research in the early stages of drug development can help connect the drug s activity to
biological impact and clinical significance. Improvement in early stage R D productivity can be
increased greatly by looking more at the scientific disease state being treated rather than just looking
at the target. Evolving clinical and commercial requirements of the scientific data from the disease
state will rapidly advance the early stage patients being tested to clinical trials. A biomarker is a
measured indicator of a targeted disease. It can be used in drug development and contributes to
increased probability for phase transitioning specifically in phases II III, the longest phases. A recent
study in oncology drug development displayed 908 oncology drug candidates Phase I, II, and III

Anime over the past few decades has decade increasing important in American society. This is

Discuss Smith s Ideas On The Division Of Labour
Explain and Evaluate Smith s Ideas on the Division of Labour:
A core part of dominant ideology is the split between state and market is this valid? Is this true?
One of Adam Smith s main focuses was the problem of the relationship between money and the state.
Adam Smith can be seen as pioneering in questioning the role of the state, as he was seemingly the
first to propose a systematic model of the economy that was independent of the state. He attempts to
explain how society should organise economics from the perspective of what is naturally occurring. In
doing this he finds that what should be and what can be are profoundly interlinked. This revolutionary
thinking went against mercantilism, which was the dominant approach of the time period.
Mercantilism can be understood as an economic model that was characterized by government
intervention. Mercantilism was an alliance between merchants and the state that was premised on
increasing the power and wealth of the state through growing certain sections of the economy. It was
formed by the concerns of the time, such as a need to maintain new and expensive militaries, the rise
of the nation state, and crises and shortages of money.
Adam Smith s wrote The Wealth of Nations (1776) primarily as an attack on the economic
mercantilist system of the day. Smith aimed to demolish the mercantilist beliefs that money was an
end, and that the accumulation of wealth could be identified with the accumulation of money, and to

Cover Art Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
As one of the most recognizable book covers in the history of American literature: two sad female
eyes and bright red lips adrift in the deep blue of a night sky, hovering ominously above a carnival
scene. Full of sorrow and excess, this image has become so connected to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, that many of the elements within the cover such as the eyes and the figure within them
reflect the haunting messages found in the novel. Arguably, the most prominent image in the cover art
is the eyes. The eyes on the cover art symbolize that everything these characters do are always being
watched. The eyes could be representing God and how he is looking down on the world of The Great
Gatsby. For example, the city is seen below the eyes which show that it is being looked upon. Eyes are
a symbol that is used throughout the book. They exist in the billboard of Doctor T.J Eckleberg, another
symbol of how judgement is being passed on towards the characters. Also, within the eyes a nude
woman is seen. The irises of the eyes with nude women lounging in them represent Jay Gatsby s
views on his hopeful future with Daisy Buchanan. They also represent the wealthy, since this book
strips away their outer shell and shows their true nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Another point of view as to why she has no face or body is because Gatsby had dreamed about her so

Essay on Bacons Rebellion
Bacon s Rebellion
quot;Where we do well know that all our causes will be impartially heard and equally justice
administered to all men, quot; as stated by, Nathaniel Bacon. 1 In
1676 an uprising known as Bacon s Rebellion occurred in Virginia. The immediate cause of this revolt
was the dissension between the planters and the Indians.
Because Sir William Berkeley, the Governor of Virginia had willingly denied support to the farmers,
Bacon assumed leadership of an unauthorized expedition against the Indians. When Bacon learned
that Governor Berkeley was rising a force against him, he turned away from the Indians to fight with
Berkley. This had now become a serious problem for the governor. When news of this revolt had

Unfortunately Governor Sir William Berkeley was not living up to those standards.
Berkeley did not care about the farmers. It was obvious that the only thing he cared about was making
money. The event that sparked the rebellion occurred when the Indians attacked the farmers. Normally
these farmers were expecting to receive help from the governor. They became irritated when the
governor did not support them. Through the eyes of the freemen this was seen as a big mistake.
Because the governor did not give them the support, they had to take matters into their own hands.
After defeating the Indians, the unofficially elected
Nathaniel Bacon took charge. When he led his men into town to form an assembly, it would be the
first assembly in fifteen years. After the long struggle and hard fought battle these freemen received
their gift. They were finally able to appeal a law that denied their right to vote. They were now
considered legal voters. Another important aspect of democracy is social equality. During the
17th century in Virginia, people were either wealthy or poor. The proprietors held the wealth, while
the plantation workers in Virginia were poor. In addition the farmers had no rights. The freemen had to
be taxed and there was nothing they could do about it. It did not hurt the rich to be taxed because they
could afford it. When the lower class

As the company continues to grow, it doesn t mean they have to conform to a different culture.
Innovation is very important to Google and its employees. It will be very important, however, they
continue to make employees feel like they are entrepreneurs and are encouraged to bring forward great
ideas. Employees kept themselves in check to ensure they were considered Googley and not Dilberty .
In the interview process, candidates are thoroughly screened to ensure they met googley qualities and
can adapt to the environment.
At one point, Kim Scott hired additional managers to keep up with growth, which concerned people
about losing the innovation methodology of Google. The managers Scott hired, however didn t squash
innovation, but rather embraced it.

An organisation needs managers to be able to accomplish its goals. They contribute to organisational
value, its financial performance, and productivity by the efficiency and effectiveness of managerial
tasks (Robbins, Bergman, Stagg, Coulter, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to justify why we need
managers in the organisation and how they become so influential to its performance and the employee

However, globalisation also affects the manager s awareness due to organisational value in

managers consists of their functions, roles and skills, which they need to perform efficiently. In 1949,
Fayol (as cited in Lamond, 2003) identified a theory through surveys that there are five functions of
managers, which are planning, organising, commanding, coordinating and controlling. Planning is a
process which managers are necessarily good at intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies, as it is
related to handle and encourage people with all the obligations required to be able to make
preparations and aim for optimum outcomes rather than minimum exposure. It is basically the
function of all level of managers, but dominated by top managers because they make long term plans
instead of short term plans, which are made by middle and first level managers. Afterwards,
organising means building up the undertaking material and human organisation. This includes having
an adequate knowledge to find essential work force and put each where he/she can do the most
effective duties. So, this is the function of top managers because they are the one who have authorities
to do that. The next function is to command. Commanding is suggested as an initiation to set
organized employees who are fully motivated and work together in a

Comparing Perrault And The Grimm Brothers
When it comes to picking authors, who interest me in the field of fairytales I would have to choose
Perrault and the Grimm brothers. Even though one is from the 17th century and the other two are from
the 19th century, they go about telling stories a little differently while also having some similarities in
the tales they tell. Both have morals for each tale. Some are weaker than others while others are also
stronger than others as well. The fairy tale I would be writing about would be little red riding hood.
The little red riding hood that I remember reading about when I was little was saved by a woodsman.
However, coming into this class and reading the original, I found it interested that both tales ended
differently.
Perrault who was known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 17th century the protestant era did not exist. During the 17th century it was noticed that a child s
youth was becoming more of a distinguished stage in life that was considered a critical base of the
development of character (Zipes, 36). While Perrault was writing, he had to focus and come up with a
way to teach adults and kids the same morals. In Perrault s tales, he clearly states the characteristics a
woman needs are to be beautiful, polite, graceful, industrious, and properly groomed while also
knowing how to control herself always (Zipes, 40). So basically, just waiting for the right man to
come in and save the day, which was fine for back in the 17th century but in today s time, no women
wants to wait for somebody to pretend to save the day. In most of the fairy tales the

Invasion Of Sicily Research Paper
The Invasion of Sicily was one of the most important battles during World War II. It was named
Operation Husky by the Allies. The Allies were Great Britain, United States, Canada, and free France.
The Axis were Italy and Nazi Germany. After Northern Africa was freed of fascist tyranny, the Allies
now focused their attention on the Italian mainland in an effort to knock out the weaker Italian forces
from under the Axis banner. This invasion also opened the second frond on the continent of Europe to
help take the pressure off of the USSR. The Invasion of Sicily was later nicknamed the first European
D Day.
On Saturday July 10, 1943 after forcing the German out of North Africa the Allies decided their next
step was to invade and take over Sicily, Italy while pushing out the Axis Powers. The Allies consisted
of the two main countries, The United States and Great Britian. Even though they weren t a big part of
the invasion the Allies also had Canada and Free France supporting them. The Axis Powers consisted
of Italy and Nazi Germany. By taking over Sicily the Allies hoped to remove fascist regime from Italy,
secure the central Mediterranean, and divert the Nazi German divisions from northwest east of France.
This would allow the Allies to plan the attack on northwest east of France next.
The Allies had several great leaders that led ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On August 15th, the US 7th Army fired their last amphibious assault which led to Germans full retreat.
Two days later the 3rd Division of the United States gave the all clear that Operation Husky was a
success. The Allied powers had won and Sicily was in their hands. After the conquest of Sicily, the
Allies had suffered over 23,000 casualties. The German forces sustained over 30,000 casualties while
the Italians had more than 135,000 casualties. The Allies had also captured over 100,000 Axis

Section 362 Section 2
Section 351 of the Internal Revenue code allows a taxpayer to obtain non recognition of gain or loss
when property is transferred solely in exchange for stocks and immediately after the transfer, the
transferor or transferors are in control of the corporation. This does not include non qualified stock as
provided under §351(g), however. As described above, each party transferred to the corporation
qualifying tangible assets that are established as property for rules governing transfers to corporations.
Moreover, directly after the exchange both shareholders obtained control of the corporation by
satisfying the requirement of I.R.C. §368(c). Section 368 (c), defines control as holding at least 80%
of the total combined voting power of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Section 362(e)(2) states that if the transferors adjusted basis of the property transferred is greater than
the fair market value right after the transaction, then the basis of the property transferred should obtain
a basis that does not exceed the fair market value right after the transfer. In any case, the transferor has
the option to select an irrevocable election that allows them to apply the reduction to their stock basis
received rather than to the transferee s basis in the property received. This statute eliminates the
transferee s built in loss and it does not allow the opportunity that the taxpayer and the corporation can
undertake a transaction that results in a duplicated loss. Federal Tax Reg. §1.362 4 along with Section
362(e)(2) were established to prevent the duplication of new loss in transfers undertaken under
Section 351. Subsequently, Congress also included Section 362(e)(2)(C) which permits the transferor
and the corporation to make the election and reduce the tax basis rather than to the property received
by the corporation. If Mrs. Zhee accepts this election, then the corporation would take the basis of
$60,000 for the machine and Mrs. Zhee would then reduce her stock to the fair market value of
$40,000. Nonetheless, Mrs. Zhee is not allowed to reduce her stock basis more than the current fair
market value. If Mrs. Zhee and the corporation decide not to make the election, then the transaction
will not be made pursuant to 362(e)(2) and 362(e)(2)(c). Additionally, the difference will not be
recognized by both the transferor and transferee as provided under the duplication loss

U.s. Trade Policy Policies
U.S. Trade Policy Throughout history, the United States trading policies have shifted from early
protectionism intended to generate revenue and support domestic industry growth to a high degree of
free trade within the international trade market (Carbaugh, 2015). In between, policy changes
designed to increase and decrease tariffs were enacted due to pressure from politicians, economists,
industries, citizens and other countries. Yet, emphasized in the ensuing paragraphs, America s
continuous efforts to maintain a sufficient amount of trade tariffs has continuously led to fluctuations
in the domestic economy. Along with the country s practice of protectionism, the policies that
influenced the major changes in tariff rates include the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the initial tariffs laws prospered enough to yield over 90 percent of the federal government s total
revenue, pressures from developing industry leaders urging for a higher degree of protection needed to
combat growing foreign competition overwhelmed the governments revenue motives (Carbaugh,
2015). Highlighted by Alexander Hamilton s propositions to the federal government in 1791, actions
in the form of higher import tariffs and government subsidies were essential to the promotion of
manufacturing within the United States (Irwin, 1996). Consequently, these views fueled a growing
debate and struggle between the North s industry led economy who favored higher duties on imports
and the South s import dependent economy, which relied on lower costs (Carbaugh, 2015). With the
government s passing of the Tariff of Abominations in 1828, their intentions of promoting the
purchase of domestic goods by increasing the price of cheaper foreign products, mostly from English
exporters, enraged the Southern economy due to the record setting tariff duties that were the highest in
the world (Wilson, 2009). Additionally, the Southern states desired lower tariffs in order encourage the
trade of cotton and tobacco, which were supplied by Southern farmers and plantation owners (Wilson,
2009).
Although the Tariff of

Marketing Strategy For The International Business Market
When companies decide to enter the international business market they can do so via two different
strategies, the multinational and global strategies. These two may seem like they are the same but in
reality each strategy is very different. The multinational strategy s main purpose is to adjust the
product being offer to better appeal to the people or place to where it is being offer, while the global
strategy does not make that distinction. Using the global strategy means that the same market strategy
used in one country can also be used in another country without regard to the place, people or their
culture. It may perhaps sound like an unreasonable strategy but when the product you must sell is
standard the most important factor is cost; the global strategy succeeds in this regard. For example if I
were to sell a pen here in the USA and then in South Korea the best strategy to use would be the
global strategy. With this strategy the same marketing strategy used in USA can also apply is South
Korea because the pencil is a standard product, it is not unique. By using this strategy I would also
save money in market research and be able to produce at a larger scale (because I am not catering to
specific needs) which would allow my product to be less costly than if I were to use the multinational
strategy. As a result this cost saving technique can be passed to consumers to earn us a bigger market
share in South Korea. However if I were to sell Mexican cuisine in South

Business In Australi Business Analysis
Business is essential to any developed and developing society as it makes various contributions to the
economy and the progress of the society. In Australia, business is considered as a driving force for
social progress. There are currently 2.1 million businesses actively trading in Australia, as of 2016.
This is an increase of 2.4% from 2015. In the last couple of years, business entry rates have increased
from 13.4% to 14.6% while exit rates have decreased from 12.4% to 12.3%. This shows that there has
been business growth in Australia recently. At the moment, the industry classification with the highest
survival rate is Health Care and Social Assistance, which has a survival rate of 74.2%. On the
contrary, Accommodation and Food Services ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first factor is the failure to react to changes in society or the marketplace. Many business owners
think that their success in the past will continue to work and help their business grow, but in reality,
society and demands change all the time, especially with the development of technology. Failure to
adapt to these changes will cause many businesses to become outdated and lose to their competition.
Another factor for failure is the inability to price a product or service correctly. There are many
examples of this, one including a business making a product expensive for customers even though it
isn t of high quality. This mistake will make businesses lose their customer base and eventually fail.
Another example is if a business tries to make a high quality product, but also sell it for a cheap price.
This will make the business lose money, therefore narrowing its chances of achieving business
success. Although there are many failure factors, one important one that means the difference between
a successful business and a failed one is the lack of financial management. Good financial skills are
needed in a business in order to control and track the money that it earns and spends. An example of
this failure factor is if a business chooses to spend more money than it can earn, and also chooses to
spend it on something unproductive. This will cause the business to lose its money and fail. Overall,
there are

General Electric, A Worldwide Conglomerate Corporation
General Electric, a worldwide conglomerate corporation, was founded in 1892 in New York.
Currently, the GE headquarters remains in Schenectady, New York, and have a second location in
Fairfield, CT. As a publicly traded company, GE is one of the original twelve on the Dow Jones Index;
the only one left remaining there today, 119 years later. In addition to the Dow, General Electric is also
a member of the S P 500. As of 2015, the company operates through the following business divisions:
power and water, oil and gas, energy management, aviation, healthcare, transportation, capital, and
digital. The products general electric manufactures include: aircraft engines, electrical distribution,

A company, like General Electric, that has a positive current ratio greater than 1, will also have a
positive net working capital. Net working capital assesses a company s ability to pay off short term
obligations. General Electric, along with their industry, both have the ability to meet short term
commitments and liquidate assets easily. Activity ratios have the capability to show how efficient, or
inefficient, a company is operating. Receivables turnover ratio indicates the level of efficiency with
managing credit given to customers and the collection period. Using their recent third quarter data, I
calculated that General Electric has a receivables turnover ratio of .80. That isn t awful, but their
industry is preforming at a much higher level of 1.8. Essentially, GE is not collecting payments as fast,
and are less efficient than their market competitors. On the other hand, there is also inventory
turnover. This ratio is set up to show how many times a period a company is selling out of
merchandise. Here is where General Electric is very close to the industry average. GE has an
inventory turnover of 4.2, compared to the industry at 4.4. The higher the ratio, the more effective a
business stands. Lastly, total asset turnover is used to measure how efficiently your business uses its
assets to generate sales (Avenir). GE possesses a ratio of .14, much lower than the industry

Personal Statement On Personal Responsibility
Personal responsibility is holding you accountable for all your actions and decisions. Being personally
responsible means you take ownership of what you do in and with your life. This means from the time
you wake up until you go to bed at night, your life is your responsibility and yours alone. Your values,
morals, and beliefs are all contributing factors in how you view being personally responsible. If you
have been raised and taught to believe that you should consider your actions at all times, then
responsibility becomes second nature to you . For some it may be a little more difficult to grasp this
concept. What we need to remember is that personal responsibility is important in every aspect of life .
In college one has to take personal responsibility very seriously. I began my college education in my
early thirties. I had been out of school for quite some time and knew that I faced a real challenge. I had
to purpose in my mind that I was going to do whatever it took to reach my academic goals. Starting
out I faced several disadvantages , from lack of financial aid, to self doubt. I had to take charge of
what was my dream and find a way to make it happen. I went to the college after obtaining my GED
and just laid it all out on the line. Once I received my first class schedule I felt I was on my way. That
very first class night I had an eye opening moment. I realized that this was going to take a lot of hard
work and determination. I found out quickly that not everyone

Captain James Cook
Captain James Cook, FRS, RN (7 November 1728[NB 1] 14 February 1779) was a British explorer,
navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. Cook made detailed maps of Newfoundland
prior to making three voyages to the Pacific Ocean, during which he achieved the first recorded
European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, and the first
recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand. Cook joined the British merchant navy as a teenager and
joined the Royal Navy in 1755. He saw action in the Seven Years War, and subsequently surveyed and
mapped much of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec. This helped
bring Cook to the attention of the Admiralty and Royal Society. This ... Show more content on

After passing his examinations in 1752, he soon progressed through the merchant navy ranks, starting
with his promotion in that year to mate aboard the collier brig Friendship.[6] In 1755, within a month
of being offered command of this vessel, he volunteered for service in the Royal Navy, when Britain
was re arming for what was to become the Seven Years War. Despite the need to start back at the
bottom of the naval hierarchy, Cook realised his career would advance more quickly in military
service and entered the Navy at Wapping on 7 June 1755.[7] Cook married Elizabeth Batts (1742
1835), the daughter of Samuel Batts, keeper of the Bell Inn, Wapping[8] and one of his mentors, on 21
December 1762 at St. Margaret s Church in Barking, Essex. The couple had six children: James (1763
94), Nathaniel (1764 81), Elizabeth (1767 71), Joseph (1768 68), George (1772 72) and Hugh (1776
93). When not at sea, Cook lived in the East End of London. He attended St Paul s Church, Shadwell,
where his son James was baptised. Cook has no direct descendants all his children either pre deceased
him or died without having children of their own.[9] [edit]Start of Royal Navy career Further

  • 2. Mute, Motionless, and Beautiful Gunda, Divya s four year old son was playing in the living room happily. He looked at his mother again and again. She looked different like she was getting ready to go out. He liked going out not just with her but anybody per se. Sometimes he would just cry in a high pitch tone until the concerned person would agree. Of course there won t be any tears. Everybody knew he would just throw dry tantrums. When he was angry, he would bite everyone around him and smash things. When he was in a happy mood, he was like a sweet boy. Give him whatever he would want, then he would kiss you all the time. He was playing with his toys until Divya put on her shoes. Then he ran and chained her right leg with cute little hands. ``Mom, I want to come with you. ``I am not going anywhere. ``You are lying. Then why are you looking so pretty? Why are you wearing this saree. I know this saree is for special occasion. Divya told him the truth that she was getting ready to see the doctor. she was 8 months pregnant. She wanted to take him with her. But she did not know how long it would take. The two texts provided are Decomposition , a poem by Zulfikar Ghose, and Street People: How Dangerous are They? , an article for Survival magazine by Loren W. Christensen. The first article has a more sympathetic tone towards street people, and questions if we are actually compassionate to their situations or just feel pity because that s how we think we should feel. Such sights are so common that we have learned to automatically filter them and treat them as though they are perfectly normal and have been around forever ( he lies veined into stone, a fossil man ), when in fact, if you think about it, it s depressing and shocking that there are people who are suffering because they don t have homes, families, or a spray to support themselves. There is an implication that in admiring the art of other people s sadness, we overlook the circumstances that led to the production of the art ( his head ... chides me now for my presumption ). This can especially be seen with photographs as even with paintings such as the Mona Lisa, people wonder about the mystery of the subject, but with photographs, even though they are a perfect realistic depiction of the world around us, it somehow makes us desensitised to their real plight. On the other hand, the second article is more aggressive and almost pejorative in its voice. The writer admits that they are generalising most people who are homeless ( it should be said that not all of them are drug users, thieves and muggers ), but states that it is safer to generalise negatively in the interest of one s self preservation. Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) is one of the major components which are increasingly deployed in the power system network to provide the necessary infrastructure to cater smart grid requirements. PMUs provide time synchronized measurement of voltage and current phasors (Phadke and Thorp 2008) from different nodes of the power system network, which is used for monitoring and control. The mismatch in PMU measurements and dynamic simulators lead to anomalous result for application such as event location, oscillation detection, islanding detection, and dynamic line rating as indicated in (Zhao et al. 2015). While PMUs can measure and time synchronize the output phasor with great accuracy, the internal signal processing may utilize several cycles of the input signal measurements to calculate each phasor values. Thus, even if the PMU report phasor each cycle, the measurements is not representative of the current cycle but of a number of the preceding and following cycles depending on the sliding window of data used for the phasor estimation. This typically smooths out/filters faster changes that may be present in the simulation output, rendering PMU output not comparable to simulated response for the same disturbance when fast changing responses are present (applicable for a very small time constant parameters in the model of the physical system). Phasor estimation can be performed in electromagnetic simulators in which point of wave signal is available. Phasor estimation of a point of wave signal is applied in electromagnetic simulator using enhanced DFT based algorithm in (Romano, Pignati, and Paolone 2015). A mechanism for streaming simulated phasors from TSAT in C37.118 format is proposed in (Zheng, Howell, and Wang 2015). However, these phasors do not reflect the PMU characteristics as ... The poem has a tone so sweet and soft that it is not offensive in any means and is not affected by cynicism of the older generations. The same line also consists of a paradox because he calls himself the lamb and a child at the same time, when Jesus is the symbol of the lamb. Christ is often referred to as a shepherd in the bible which displays spirituality. The lamb by itself is a symbol of peace, meekness, and sacrifice. Together the lamb laying with the lion is also a sign of peace. (Gualdoni) Blake uses a metaphor to compare Jesus to a lamb. Jesus was God s sacrifice to creation, he was the sacrificial lamb, and Jesus was sacrificed on the cross to create more peace in the world. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically in their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task increases (relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of incentives on performance decrease. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies on financial incentives and performance Jenkins et al. Furthermore, they find task type is independent of the relation between financial incentives and performance. Using a checkbook is how we withdraw money for expenses which is one standard way to pay for items. Cash basis accounting is also applied when reporting salaries for physicians or registered nurses as an expense and this would allow no revenue of patients treated by physicians until the following year when profits are collected. He uses a moth, the protagonist, to express the theme. Board of Education of Topeka, 347 U.S. 483 (1954), was a landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be unconstitutional. The decision overturned the Plessy v. Ferguson decision of 1896, which allowed state sponsored segregation, insofar as it applied to public education. Handed down on May 17, 1954, the Warren Court s unanimous (9 0) decision stated that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. As a result, de jure racial segregation was ruled a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution. This ruling paved the way for integration and was a major victory of the Civil Rights Movement.[1] However, the decision s fourteen pages did not spell out any sort of method for ending racial segregation in schools, and the Court s second decision in Brown II only ordered states to desegregate with all deliberate speed . While most companies use the mentality of screening drugs that show the most binding affinity or particularity of drug applicants to a single defined target, this is not always the best way of doing things. Many off target activities or multi targeted particularities have been successful in targeted therapeutics. For example, Imatinib marketed by Novartis and Sorafenib co developed and co marketed by Bayer and Onyx Pharmaceuticals and Nexavar have shown that looking at the broader spectrum of biological context of how a specific agent works is very important. Increasing importance of translational and clinical research in the early stages of drug development can help connect the drug s activity to biological impact and clinical significance. Improvement in early stage R D productivity can be increased greatly by looking more at the scientific disease state being treated rather than just looking at the target. Evolving clinical and commercial requirements of the scientific data from the disease state will rapidly advance the early stage patients being tested to clinical trials. • 33. Discuss Smith s Ideas On The Division Of Labour Explain and Evaluate Smith s Ideas on the Division of Labour: A core part of dominant ideology is the split between state and market is this valid? Is this true? One of Adam Smith s main focuses was the problem of the relationship between money and the state. Adam Smith can be seen as pioneering in questioning the role of the state, as he was seemingly the first to propose a systematic model of the economy that was independent of the state. He attempts to explain how society should organise economics from the perspective of what is naturally occurring. In doing this he finds that what should be and what can be are profoundly interlinked. This revolutionary thinking went against mercantilism, which was the dominant approach of the time period. Mercantilism can be understood as an economic model that was characterized by government intervention. Mercantilism was an alliance between merchants and the state that was premised on increasing the power and wealth of the state through growing certain sections of the economy. It was formed by the concerns of the time, such as a need to maintain new and expensive militaries, the rise of the nation state, and crises and shortages of money. Adam Smith s wrote The Wealth of Nations (1776) primarily as an attack on the economic mercantilist system of the day. Smith aimed to demolish the mercantilist beliefs that money was an end, and that the accumulation of wealth could be identified with the accumulation of money, and to understand ... • 34. Cover Art Symbolism In The Great Gatsby As one of the most recognizable book covers in the history of American literature: two sad female eyes and bright red lips adrift in the deep blue of a night sky, hovering ominously above a carnival scene. Full of sorrow and excess, this image has become so connected to The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, that many of the elements within the cover such as the eyes and the figure within them reflect the haunting messages found in the novel. Arguably, the most prominent image in the cover art is the eyes. The eyes on the cover art symbolize that everything these characters do are always being watched. The eyes could be representing God and how he is looking down on the world of The Great Gatsby. For example, the city is seen below the eyes which show that it is being looked upon. Eyes are a symbol that is used throughout the book. They exist in the billboard of Doctor T.J Eckleberg, another symbol of how judgement is being passed on towards the characters. Also, within the eyes a nude woman is seen. The irises of the eyes with nude women lounging in them represent Jay Gatsby s views on his hopeful future with Daisy Buchanan. Because Sir William Berkeley, the Governor of Virginia had willingly denied support to the farmers, Bacon assumed leadership of an unauthorized expedition against the Indians. Berkeley did not care about the farmers. It was obvious that the only thing he cared about was making money. The event that sparked the rebellion occurred when the Indians attacked the farmers. Normally these farmers were expecting to receive help from the governor. They became irritated when the governor did not support them. Through the eyes of the freemen this was seen as a big mistake. Because the governor did not give them the support, they had to take matters into their own hands. After defeating the Indians, the unofficially elected Nathaniel Bacon took charge. When he led his men into town to form an assembly, it would be the first assembly in fifteen years. After the long struggle and hard fought battle these freemen received their gift. They were finally able to appeal a law that denied their right to vote. They were now considered legal voters. Another important aspect of democracy is social equality. During the 17th century in Virginia, people were either wealthy or poor. The proprietors held the wealth, while the plantation workers in Virginia were poor. In addition the farmers had no rights. The freemen had to be taxed and there was nothing they could do about it. It did not hurt the rich to be taxed because they could afford it. When the lower class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1949, Fayol (as cited in Lamond, 2003) identified a theory through surveys that there are five functions of managers, which are planning, organising, commanding, coordinating and controlling. Planning is a process which managers are necessarily good at intrapersonal and interpersonal competencies, as it is related to handle and encourage people with all the obligations required to be able to make preparations and aim for optimum outcomes rather than minimum exposure. It is basically the function of all level of managers, but dominated by top managers because they make long term plans instead of short term plans, which are made by middle and first level managers. Afterwards, organising means building up the undertaking material and human organisation. This includes having an adequate knowledge to find essential work force and put each where he/she can do the most effective duties. Section 368 (c), defines control as holding at least 80% of the total combined voting power of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Section 362(e)(2) states that if the transferors adjusted basis of the property transferred is greater than the fair market value right after the transaction, then the basis of the property transferred should obtain a basis that does not exceed the fair market value right after the transfer. In any case, the transferor has the option to select an irrevocable election that allows them to apply the reduction to their stock basis received rather than to the transferee s basis in the property received. This statute eliminates the transferee s built in loss and it does not allow the opportunity that the taxpayer and the corporation can undertake a transaction that results in a duplicated loss. Federal Tax Reg. §1.362 4 along with Section 362(e)(2) were established to prevent the duplication of new loss in transfers undertaken under Section 351. Subsequently, Congress also included Section 362(e)(2)(C) which permits the transferor and the corporation to make the election and reduce the tax basis rather than to the property received by the corporation. If Mrs. Zhee accepts this election, then the corporation would take the basis of $60,000 for the machine and Mrs. Zhee would then reduce her stock to the fair market value of $40,000. Nonetheless, Mrs. Zhee is not allowed to reduce her stock basis more than the current fair market value. If Mrs. Zhee and the corporation decide not to make the election, then the transaction will not be made pursuant to 362(e)(2) and 362(e)(2)(c). Additionally, the difference will not be recognized by both the transferor and transferee as provided under the duplication loss ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. U.s. Trade Policy Policies U.S. Trade Policy Throughout history, the United States trading policies have shifted from early protectionism intended to generate revenue and support domestic industry growth to a high degree of free trade within the international trade market (Carbaugh, 2015). In between, policy changes designed to increase and decrease tariffs were enacted due to pressure from politicians, economists, industries, citizens and other countries. Yet, emphasized in the ensuing paragraphs, America s continuous efforts to maintain a sufficient amount of trade tariffs has continuously led to fluctuations in the domestic economy. Along with the country s practice of protectionism, the policies that influenced the major changes in tariff rates include the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the initial tariffs laws prospered enough to yield over 90 percent of the federal government s total revenue, pressures from developing industry leaders urging for a higher degree of protection needed to combat growing foreign competition overwhelmed the governments revenue motives (Carbaugh, 2015). Highlighted by Alexander Hamilton s propositions to the federal government in 1791, actions in the form of higher import tariffs and government subsidies were essential to the promotion of manufacturing within the United States (Irwin, 1996). Consequently, these views fueled a growing debate and struggle between the North s industry led economy who favored higher duties on imports and the South s import dependent economy, which relied on lower costs (Carbaugh, 2015). With the government s passing of the Tariff of Abominations in 1828, their intentions of promoting the purchase of domestic goods by increasing the price of cheaper foreign products, mostly from English exporters, enraged the Southern economy due to the record setting tariff duties that were the highest in the world (Wilson, 2009). Additionally, the Southern states desired lower tariffs in order encourage the trade of cotton and tobacco, which were supplied by Southern farmers and plantation owners (Wilson, 2009). • 46. Marketing Strategy For The International Business Market When companies decide to enter the international business market they can do so via two different strategies, the multinational and global strategies. These two may seem like they are the same but in reality each strategy is very different. The multinational strategy s main purpose is to adjust the product being offer to better appeal to the people or place to where it is being offer, while the global strategy does not make that distinction. Using the global strategy means that the same market strategy used in one country can also be used in another country without regard to the place, people or their culture. It may perhaps sound like an unreasonable strategy but when the product you must sell is standard the most important factor is cost; the global strategy succeeds in this regard. For example if I were to sell a pen here in the USA and then in South Korea the best strategy to use would be the global strategy. With this strategy the same marketing strategy used in USA can also apply is South Korea because the pencil is a standard product, it is not unique. By using this strategy I would also save money in market research and be able to produce at a larger scale (because I am not catering to specific needs) which would allow my product to be less costly than if I were to use the multinational strategy. As a result this cost saving technique can be passed to consumers to earn us a bigger market share in South Korea. However if I were to sell Mexican cuisine in South ... Many business owners think that their success in the past will continue to work and help their business grow, but in reality, society and demands change all the time, especially with the development of technology. Failure to adapt to these changes will cause many businesses to become outdated and lose to their competition. Another factor for failure is the inability to price a product or service correctly. There are many examples of this, one including a business making a product expensive for customers even though it isn t of high quality. This mistake will make businesses lose their customer base and eventually fail. Another example is if a business tries to make a high quality product, but also sell it for a cheap price. This will make the business lose money, therefore narrowing its chances of achieving business success. Although there are many failure factors, one important one that means the difference between a successful business and a failed one is the lack of financial management. Good financial skills are needed in a business in order to control and track the money that it earns and spends. An example of this failure factor is if a business chooses to spend more money than it can earn, and also chooses to spend it on something unproductive. This will cause the business to lose its money and fail. Overall, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Activity ratios have the capability to show how efficient, or inefficient, a company is operating. Receivables turnover ratio indicates the level of efficiency with managing credit given to customers and the collection period. Using their recent third quarter data, I calculated that General Electric has a receivables turnover ratio of .80. That isn t awful, but their industry is preforming at a much higher level of 1.8. Essentially, GE is not collecting payments as fast, and are less efficient than their market competitors. On the other hand, there is also inventory turnover. This ratio is set up to show how many times a period a company is selling out of merchandise. Here is where General Electric is very close to the industry average. GE has an inventory turnover of 4.2, compared to the industry at 4.4. The higher the ratio, the more effective a business stands. Lastly, total asset turnover is used to measure how efficiently your business uses its assets to generate sales (Avenir). GE possesses a ratio of .14, much lower than the industry ... • 49. Personal Statement On Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility is holding you accountable for all your actions and decisions. Being personally responsible means you take ownership of what you do in and with your life. This means from the time you wake up until you go to bed at night, your life is your responsibility and yours alone. Your values, morals, and beliefs are all contributing factors in how you view being personally responsible. If you have been raised and taught to believe that you should consider your actions at all times, then responsibility becomes second nature to you . For some it may be a little more difficult to grasp this concept. What we need to remember is that personal responsibility is important in every aspect of life . In college one has to take personal responsibility very seriously. I began my college education in my early thirties. I had been out of school for quite some time and knew that I faced a real challenge. I had to purpose in my mind that I was going to do whatever it took to reach my academic goals. Starting out I faced several disadvantages , from lack of financial aid, to self doubt. I had to take charge of what was my dream and find a way to make it happen. I went to the college after obtaining my GED and just laid it all out on the line. Once I received my first class schedule I felt I was on my way. That very first class night I had an eye opening moment. I realized that this was going to take a lot of hard work and determination. I found out quickly that not everyone ... Cook joined the British merchant navy as a teenager and joined the Royal Navy in 1755. He saw action in the Seven Years War, and subsequently surveyed and mapped much of the entrance to the Saint Lawrence River during the siege of Quebec. This helped bring Cook to the attention of the Admiralty and Royal Society. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
