Chapter Summary Of We Beat The Streets
In the book We Beat The Streets by Drs. Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, and Rameck Hunt with
Sharon M. Draper, the tree doctors had to overcome the ghetto projects in Plainfield and Newark
while growing up. First, They had to overcome money problems; money problems where a
problem all the time for example in the chapter How much do you need? His grandma gives
Rameck, one of the three doctors money for a portfolio to be in a play. It was $150 that his
grandma gave him to become an actor, but when he got to his house his grandma told him not to
give the money to his mom. Ramecks mom did drug, she spent all of the money on drug and their
power was out and his little sister needed food. His mom asked for the money to turn the power on

The Limitations Of Contemporary Currency Hegemony And The...
Chapter 4 The Limitations of Contemporary Currency Hegemony and the Transition to
Multipolarity The prevailing presumption amongst currency scholars of the past century is that
issuing a currency that dominates global markets and trading is of overwhelming benefit,
largely interpreted via the gains made by the US as the issuer of the dollar. These benefits have
been both political and economic in nature, as discussed in the previous chapter. However, both
domestic and external factors have begun to detract from the dollar s pinnacle currency gains,
and leads to questions of whether what was once described as an exorbitant privilege is
deteriorating to the extent that it is a burden. While assessing the dollar s evolved role as a
burden appears premature, nonetheless it appears the capacity of the US to use the dollar as a
mechanism for power is under threat. In fact, the US dollar may well be more than just under
threat . It is no longer able to exert influence like it once was, but relies on the benefits it
solidified for itself at the formation of the globes monetary structures. The leverage available to
the United States through the use of dollars is still greater than any rival currency, but it is not
absolute as it was decades before. While much has been written about the euro, and the dollars
other potential replacements at the pinnacle of the currency pyramid, what appears more likely is a
leaderless currency system as Cohen termed it, with no clear

Persuasive Essay On Punishment
What is punishment? Punishment according to Flew has five elements to its reasoning. Whatever
the crime was, it must involve an unpleasantness to a victim, must be an offense outlined in the law,
there must be an offender, there must not be natural actions of consequences and lastly, it must be
imposed by authority or an institution against their rules of offense that have been committed
(Banks, 2016). Flew also believes that if the crimefalls outside of this scope, it is rather a hostile act
rather than punishment(Banks, 2016).
Why should offenders be punished? Punishment is meant to stop people from committing further
crimes. Punishment also informs criminals that society doesn t approve of the harm they ve caused
against victims. Punishment also is a form of messaging to others that if they commit the same
crime or cause the same disapproved pain against something or someone, they will also be punished
under the law set in place. Lastly, punishment protects society as a whole from dangerous and/or
dishonest people (Banks, 2016).
In an utilitarian approach to punishment, philosophers such as Bentham believes that punishment
can be justified only if the harm that it prevents is greater that the harm inflicted on the offender
through punishment (Banks, p. 156). Bentham also believes that if punishment doesn t deter
further crime from happening, it s only adding to humanity suffering (Banks, 2016). Utilitarians try
to use punishment as a means to the end and not the end

Conflict In A Tale Of Two Cities By Charles Dickens And...
As with any historical fiction of work of literature, conflict is a neccesary element in a novel. It is
mainly used to build plot and suspense. A Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens and
Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott are both good examples of novels in which conflicts between play an
important role and in this novelit is mainly the struggles between social groups which are of big
importance. There are a lot of differences but also similarities concerning the points of view of the
narrators on the struggles between the social groups. In this essay I will discuss these differences
and similarities between the opinions of Sir Walter Scott and Charles Dickens on social conflicts.
Dickens used the development of a conflict between the French lower class and the French
government and aristocracy to build plot and suspense. The nobility (the government and
aristocracy) is extremely rich and the French lower class are exactly the opposite, very poor. The
French lower class suffered for a long time under the tight rulings and restraints of the French
government and aristocracy. The lives of ignorant French poor people are described by Charles
Dickens as horrendous:
And who among the company at Monsignor s reception in that seventeen hundred and eightieth
year of our Lord, coud possibly doubt, that a system rooted in a frizzled hangman, powdered and
gold laced, pumped, and white silk stockinet, would see the very stars out! [›] 1

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biosurfactants
1.INTRODUCTION Biosurfactants are compounds which are produced by microbial cell surface
or excreted extracellularly. They are amphiphilic in nature that contain both hydrophobic and
hydrophilic moieties. They reduce the surface and interfacial tension (Karanth et al., 1999).
Production of microbial compound and its characterization has been increased due to its property
in which it can used as a agent in enhanced oil recovery properties, and also useful in a broad
spectrum of potential application (Banat et al., 2010). Biosurfactants are effective like other
synthetic surfactants, the main advantage of this compounds are more biodegradable, it reduces the

It is mainly used for the detection of fatty acids in the biosurfactant. Fatty acid like hexadecanoic
acid, octanoic acid and decanoic acid are identified by GC MS analysis (Sadouk et al., 2008).
Some studies revealed the presence of fatty acids like palmitic acid and oleic acid (Bayoumi,
2010). For GC MS analysis carbohydrates are subjected to trimethylsilation (TMS) (Dejongh et
al., 1969). Sugars like trehalose, sophorose and glucopyranose are also identified during these
analyses. Colorimetric method was carried out to preliminary analyze chemical compositions of
crude lipopeptides. Total lipid, proteinand sugar contents were determined by sulfo phospho
vanillintest (Izard et al,. 2003), Bradford assay (Satpute et al,. 2010) and phenol sulfuric acid test
(DuBois et al,. 1956) respectively. The fatty acid contents of the lipid in crude lipopep tides were
analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) after fatty acidmethyl ester (FAME) derivatization (Silva et

Social Class In Madame Bovary
In the novel Madame Bovary, Flaubert drew attention to the concept of social class and
studiously built all the characters according to their place in the communal hierarchy.
Housekeepers, nurses, and footmen, were representatives of the lower class people, who served
a purpose of aiding the middle class families, including the Bovary s. The higher class consisted
of Rodolphe (the wealthy aristocrat) and the guests we were introduced to at the ball earlier on in
the book. The novel s protagonist, Emma Bovary, who was educated in a convent and raised in
the country, was undoubtedly categorized as a middle class woman, yet whether or not that was
her rightful status is the overriding question. Emma married Charles at a young age in an attempt
to detach herself from the mediocre way of life at the farm, yet he failed to live up to the fanatical
romance and sophistication her novels set. Her ego and belief that she was strained into a situation

of her conduct, the guests at the

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Comparison
The movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Mel Stuart, and Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory, directed by Tim Burton, are both outstanding artwork that impressed the public.
In this essay, I will examine how the Burton achieved to convert the genre of the previous movie to
attract audiences from different centuries and examine how Berger s and Lethem s claims relate to
my observations.
Stuart s imagination of the chocolate factory was the first attempt to translate Dahl s book from
text into visual. Before the creation, there was no alike movie existed. Without any expectations
from viewers, they were amazed to this interpretation of the fantasy. When Burton reproduced the
movie, the one of a kind idea was refined. It was no longer a unique existence (Berger, 520).
Stuart s movie was no longer unique by its creative imagery, it is unique because it is the original
of Burton s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The old version only had a standing camera to record everything the actors could do to express
their emotions. In comparison, Burton used computer graphics and various filming techniques in
order to increase the video quality. In the way that Lethem said, technology had increased the
chances for people to expand their creativity. It was easy to copy and paste something then add a
twist to become their own (673). The combination contained old and new ideas. Everything is a
mixture of something belonged to the past. The Oompa Loompas was introduced with green skin
and orange hair by Stuart. Burton exaggerated the character with an even more shocking
appearance. Lethem claimed that old and new make the warp and woof of every moment (686).
Without reusing the past ideas, creativity would be lost. Willy Wonkaand the Chocolate Factory

Dairy Cows Rumination Time
Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease,
diet composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other
health statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, Calamari (2013),
uncovered differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that
lower ruminations times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows
will enable an early detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death.
Rumination Time data can be also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical
symptoms of diseases and metabolic inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, Calamari,
2013). As Calving season approaches, cows display a change in the behavioral patterns and also
change in rumination patters. Conditions associated with calving kill 31% of the dairy cattle
worldwide (Menzies , Bryson, McCallion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They result in an increase in veterinary costs, culling rates and indirectly result in production and
reproduction losses. Dairy farmers need to make swift decisions to help reduce the incidence of
such diseases. Studies conducted by Calamari team(2014) provide evidence that Rumination time,
during the calving period, is related to various health conditions, inflammation blood markers and
diseases commonly found during the first lactation month (Calamari, et al., 2014). Rumination
time is also a very accurate parameter for an early identification of metabolic disorders such as
ruminal acidosis, which is caused by feeding cows with high level of fast digesting carbohydrates
such as Barley. The disease is a deadly disease and often results in the death of the animal (Reith

Frank Norris s Mcteague
Since the beginning of time, humans like animals, possess certain innate behaviors that both are
naturally born with. For example, animals are born, taken care of and spend their life making
sure they have enough food in order to survive and in the end, reproduce. Similarly, humans also
possess a natural instinct to survive, consume, and reproduce in order to keep this on going cycle
alive. The comparison between humans and animals at time may disturb certain people due to the
simplification and degradation of the human race. However, it is this naturalistic view in life that
certain individuals believe should not be shielded from the public in order to protect people and
instead, believe it is necessary to educate as many people possible in the reasoning and acceptance
of mankind s innate actions. The novel McTeague, written by Frank Norris, is a book that
demonstrates an individual s natural behaviors and desires which continues to be carried out by
people today just as it has been since the beginning of time. It is through McTeague, that Frank
Norris illustrates mankind s naturalistic behavior that not only grabs the attention of the readers but
infuriates the public as well.
Benjamin Franklin Norris, otherwise known as Frank Norris was born on March 5, 1870 in
Chicago, Illinois. Throughout his life, Frank Norris attended school in Paris, the University of
California, and Harvard University which would later benefit him by establishing relationships

The whole literature of this period was inspired with a growing spirit of patriotism, and an
appreciation of Rome as the great ruler of the world

Government
Rome like Carthage traces it s founding myth back to the Phoneticians of Tyre and shared many of
the same governmental structures as Carthage with a Senate, assemblies, etc (Duncan, 2016).
Undoubtedly it was influence by the Greeks, however it grew beyond the simple city states of
Greece. It was the evolution of Roman government which differentiated themselves and allowed
them to eventually surpass their Greek neighbors.
Military
Early Rome was a warrior people whose success was founded not just based on that of their
military but their ability to adapt and absorb the military strategies and tactics of those they fought.
The navel vessels via the Carthaginians where derived from the Greek triremes, and even the
formations hearken back to the Trojan phalanx. They took what worked, improved it and made
them their own.

Essay On Louisiana Natural Resources
There are many different types of natural resources in Louisiana. Today I will talk about one of
the natural resources. Oil is a natural resource because it occurs naturally in nature. Oil isn t man
made. It is made from the long decay of the carbon and oxygen atoms in plants and animals. It is
also stored solar power. This is because of the sunlight used at the time animals and plants lived and
it uses the sun s energy.
Oil supplies thirty four percent of the world s energy needs. Oil is also a fossil fuel. This is because
it is extracted from built up organic material and fossils. Oil is mostly used as transportation fuel. It
is also found found in many other products like fertilizers, makeup, paints, and fabrics.

Ages, salt was so expensive it was sometimes referred to as white gold . Only 6% of the salt used
in the U.S. is used in food; another 17% is used for de icing streets and highways in the winter
months. Salt is all around us. Underground and on the earth s surface in the dried up residues of
ancient seas. Some salt has even arrived from outer space in meteors. But our biggest source of
salt is in our seas and oceans. With an average of 26 million tonnes per cubic kilometre, sea water
offers a seemingly inexhaustible supply which if extracted, would cover the world s total land

Traditional Bridal Dowry Box as a Social Evil in Indian...
A satirical website created in 2011 calculates the amount of dowry women need in order to marry
the men of their choice. The website mocks India s social evil, and it exposes some of the
unhealthy factors families consider in order to arrive to dowry rate. Some of the factors are caste,
education of the groom and even skin color. In Indiathe custom of dowry is a very old tradition that
originated in the 13th or 14th century, when women were not given any share from paternal wealth
and when women were regarded as the property of either their fathers or their husbands. At that
time, dowry was giving women some pre mortem inheritance and some economic security.

The passages suggest Roy s critique of the institution of dowry. Thus the excerpts bring value to
the whole book itself and help Roy pursue her goal of criticizing the Indian society through
literature and show how outdated the concept of a dowry is. These passages have also an
importance because they challenge the society in a way that dowry, a widely used tradition by the
people, is depicted as old fashioned. Arundhati Roy depicts dowry as old fashioned when she
describes the hotel Heritage. Author says: The furniture and knickknacks that came with the house
were on display. A reed umbrella, a wicker couch. A wooden dowry box. They were labeled with
edifying placards that said Traditional Kerala Umbrella and Traditional Bridal Dowry box. (Roy
120) It is interesting how the dowry box is on the display as in the museum in order to show well
known but old Indian tradition to the tourists and guests. Roy s description of dowry in these three
different situations lets the reader understand how Roy tries to progress dowry from being used in
Ammu s situation, to not being important as in Rahel s situation and later being an antique in the
hotel.
Arundhati Roy uses different writing techniques in order to emphasize her criticism of the
system and voice her opinions as a political activist. There is no doubt that Roy cleverly uses
diction and flow in order to more clearly depict to the reader her vision of dowry as an old
fashioned concept , as

Thus, the king role would be used for many centuries following this invasion, but this would not be

not unified, the counties did not have any loyalty to each other which ended up being a weakness.
The Romans took advantage of this weakness they would then Divide and conquer: buy off the
Celtic kings that could be bought, use them as allies to destroy those who resisted (PowerPoint).
After the Roman s took over the British were more unified since they were all under one rule.
Which lasted for many years until Britannia was invaded by the Anglo Saxons, after that there was
no loyalty to each other. The Romans also altered their religion, the British went from a sun god to
God. Romanization was also known as Christianization because all areas Rome conquered became
Christian. Christianity survived to play an important role a century later in the conversion of the
Anglo Saxons (Roberts 21). It is even still today the main religion throughout most communities in
the world. The Romans were very serious about religion, there are still churches and mosaics of God

to the interior many improvements were made. The architecture was classical, they put arches,

In order to give the body the opportunity to cleanse itself, you should do without heavy food,
alcohol and caffeine for your spring cleaning. On the other hand, all green vegetables, especially
cabbage, are most suitable. You can prepare them as raw food, lightly steamed or as a soup or
smoothie.
All spices are allowed, just be careful with salt. Bockshorn clover, chili, ginger or even chopped,
fresh wild garlic are particularly suitable for seasoning in the detox cuisine.
The beetroot is also a real spring grenade. It supports colon cleansing, stimulates metabolism and
encourages cell renewal. The kidneys and the liver also benefit from its many valuable nutrients.
Sorrel is rich in vitamins, neutralizes toxins, has diuretic and blood purifying properties, and
therefore, if possible, belongs in a spring detox diet. The leaves can be used in tea, mixed into a

otherwise. Rosa Parks has a lot of experience due to her being the head of the NAACP s youth

Questions On The Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity Wall Insulation could be a remedy for the energy poverty undergone by many homes in
Ireland. Available statistics show over 60,000 low income and 160,000 other homes suffer from
energy poverty. This invariably affects their health, indoor comforts while causing huge wastage of
limited earnings. Insulation In general and cavity wallinsulation in particular will help you if you
are one of the above house holders.
SEAI offers special grants for up to Euro 400 to meet your home improvements by cavity wall
insulation. The installations have to be carried out by qualified installers as special tools are
required to carry this out. Under no circumstance this is a DIY job even for a person good with
their hands.
Cavity walls
A cavity wall can be a construction of two walls with an air gap in between or a wall constructed
of hollow blocks. The air gap in this manner should be continuous for any effective cavity wall
insulation to be carried out.
How are the Cavity walls insulated?
The cavity wall insulation is applied in several ways depending on the type and construction of
wall, type of insulation selected etc. What ever the material selected the idea is to cut off heat
transfer by cutting off the heat transfer primarily, by conduction (ie. by physical contact) and
convection (ie. by the movement of hot air (molecules) due to air currents). Naturally unless there
is a continuous cavity this process has limited detrimental affect as the heat by air movement is
limited to

Jordan Brand In A New Collaboration With Artist KAWS
New York based artist and designer of toys and clothing, Brian Donnelly, who is popularly known
as KAWS has confirmed his collaboration with the Jordan brand in their recent work. News about
the collaboration was revealed by the artist on Instagram after reactions on Twitter when leaked

Efforts to identify the sneaker KAWS is working on remained elusive despite his confirmation.
Nevertheless, images displayed on Nike Talk draw speculation that the collaboration between the

What Is The Theme Of Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park Theme Essay In the movie, Jurassic Park, released in the year 1993, dinosaurs are
brought back to existence and turned into an amusement park intended for human pleasure. Jurassic
Park tells a story of dinosaurs that are scientifically created to be used as a tourist attraction for
individuals. However, this amazing attraction goes fatally wrong when the dinosaurs escape their
habitats resulting in the deaths of many people on the island. This film warns viewers against
current and future practices humans are involved in while attempting to control and exploit nature.
Over the course of history, humans have attempted to control and define nature in numerous ways.
For example, in modern times people try to predict the weather... Show more content on

Today, there are several other things that are taken advantage of besides the ways sciencecan affect
nature. Humans have a tendency of taking advantage of other humans. An example of this factor
is when people try to use other people for money. To some individuals this may seem like a good
idea at first, however, this idea can back fire when the people who had gotten taken advantage of
get angry. The said actions can even result in a fight. Another example of something that is taken
advantage of in modern time is technology. Technology is used for practically everything in present
time (as it was in Jurassic Park). This causes humans to become very attached and dependent on
every aspect of technology. For instance, if a person s phone or laptop were to ever crash, he or
she would think it was the end of the world. The person than would not be able to do his or her
schoolwork, job work, or communicate with others; this leaving the individual devastated and lost.
The final thing that individuals in modern time have a tendency of taking advantage of is their
freedom. Currently there are many riots and protests throughout the United States that citizens
participate in because they have the free right. However, they are numerous other individuals who
do not have this kind of freedom in their country. In other countries, some people are killed for just
voicing their opinions. The ending result of taking advantage of any advancement can cause
unexpected and catastrophic results in present time or in future

The Sagrada Familia
The Temple [of The Sagrada FamГlia] grows slowly, but this has always been the case with
everything destined to have a long life. Hundred year old oak trees take many years to grow tall;
on the other hand, reeds grow quickly, but in autumn the wind knocks them down and there is no
more to be said 1. These words, spoken by Antoni Gaudi about his life long work, Temple Expiatori
de la Sagrada FamГlia, are a means to justify the extremely long time needed for the construction of
the Sagrada FamГlia, while referencing the themes and structural concepts he borrowed from nature
in his designs. While this logical explanation may give comfort to some, others doubt the temple s

project, Francisco de Paula de Villar, originally designed the temple as a purely neo gothic
structure. Less than a year into the project, the budget again played a role in the future of the
Sagrada FamГlia, but this time it was clearly a change for the better. Del Villar wanted to use ashlar
columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with
rubblework, than covering them with ashlar. This started arguments with the Foundation, who
criticized De Villar for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned
because he was not happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year
old architect Antoni Gaudi as successor. Although the Foundation and Gaudi were equally excited
to be working together on this project, neither party had any idea just how magnificent of a
masterpiece they were destined to create.

Chesapeake Vs Chesapeake Essay
The colonization of the New World was a trying time for the European powers trying to catch up
the Spanish, such as the British. Sometimes colonies were successful, and sometimes they didn t
last long at all. There were not only the differences in terms of failing or succeeding, but
differences in terms of how the successful colonies succeeded. Two of the most successful colonies
were established and developed in totally different ways. The difference in the successful
development of the colonies in the Chesapeake region was totally different than the successful
development of the colonies in the New Englandregion, and was caused by different populations,

Upon their arrival, they set off in search for a land of gold. During their search, they created heavy
tensions with the natives in the area. This negative relationship with the natives caused them to be
attacked and almost wiped out until the British government took over the region and introduced a
new system. This new system granted 50 acres of land to each person that paid for their voyage, or
another person s voyage over. This caused more families to be drawn to the opportunity and
eventually a greater, smarter, stronger community was established. Overall, there was a far more
immediate success in the establishment of the population in New England than in the Chesapeake

The climate of the New England region causes the temperature to drop earlier than it does in the

1. About Pizza Hut
On June 15th, 1958, two brothers opened the first Pizza Hut restaurant in Wichita, Kansas (U.S.)
by purchasing second hand equipment and renting a small building on a busy cross road. The
concept was relatively new at the time and the brothers quickly saw the potential of this new
enterprise. A short time later, they begun to open new restaurants and developed schedules for
franchised outlets. Their chain started growing up very fast, ten years later Pizza Hut Inc. counted
almost 300 restaurants. In 1986, it had 5,025 domestic units and annual sales of almost $2 billion.
Half of the outlets were franchised. A Pizza Hut restaurant is characterized by a particular
freestanding design with a prominent red roof. The restaurants are full service, eat in/carryout with
about 60 to 90 seatings, open from 11 a.m. to midnight. Pizza HutВґs franchisees have special rights

Leadership And Effective Communication
Effective communication is a critical skills that leader must possess in order to manage a project
or programme successfully. The main focus of this text is to discuss why effective communication
plays an important role for leadership and how leadership share its similarities and differences in
project and programme team. Some examples will be given from the exercise to support the idea of
how effective communication and good leadershipcan impact the work progress. Following there
will be some recommendations of how the programme review meeting can be improved.
1.1Reason for project/progrmme communication
Communication is important because project management involves 70% to 80% communication and
its value increases at programme level since there is often an increase in stakeholders, complexity,
and delegation (Levin, 2012). This substantial amount of communication time would suggest that
the importance of effective communication is needed in order to achieve objectives. Inefficient
communication could result in time/cost overrun since information is not disseminate to the right
person quickly or correctly and therefore is likely to create a knock on effect on time and cost.
Effective communication can be also seen as a solution for some issues during management. Some
typical issues would be lacking the understanding and awareness of other project s problems and
targets during a programme, and team members in a programme are fighting for same space and
resources

The Effects Of Substance Use Disorder On America s Prison...
Introduction
For the better part of the 20th century, those convicted of crimes and sentenced to serve time in
prison, who also have an addiction have been treated unfairly. Substance use disorder has been
viewed as a disease for decades now, and despite this, this disease is not being treated in America s
prison systems properly. The recent sentencing of Cameron Douglas, son of legendary actor
Michael Douglas, to four and one half years additionally in federal prison has brought this crucial
injustice to light. Cameron was serving a five year sentence for various drug related charge and is
an admitted addict of intravenous cocaine and heroin. Heroin was discovered in the cell he resided
in, and in an unprecedented legal proceeding, Judge Richard Berman gave Cameron the longest
sentence on record for a prisoner found to have drugs while incarcerated. Instead of receiving
much needed treatment for his disorder, Cameron will spend nearly the same amount of time in
prison as his original sentence called for.
The Numbers
Drug use and abuse is not a new problem for America s prison system, and is one which speaks
to the larger issue corrupting the judicial system as a whole. As of 2013, of those prisoners
serving at least a year long sentence, 51 percent (98,200) of them were serving for drug offenses
(Carson, 2014). To contrast the incarcerated with those on probation and parole, some 25 percent
(977,662) of the 3.9 million people on probation were charged with drug

Battle Hymn Of The Tiger Mother Amy
What does it mean to be American? The American identity has always been a complicated
discussion. It is by nature identified by diversity. Many think it has to do with the birthplace of the
person and others think it has to do with their inheritance. In 2011, Amy Chua published Battle
Hymn of the Tiger Mother as a memoir. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother presents the evolution of
this American woman. The elements of Chuas evolution seemed to involve; native identity;
inherited identity; resisted identity and resolved identity. On October 26th 1962, one of the most
known authors was born: Amy Chua. Amy Chua was born in Champaign, Illinois in the Unites
States. She was raised as a catholic. Despite her having ancestry whom are Chinese, to be more
specific Kokkein dialect, she proudly carries around an American identity. She was born in the year
of the Tiger. In their culture, that represents people who are fearless, powerful, noble, and
authoritative. My familycomes from southern China s Fujian Province, which is famous for
producing scholars and scientists. Her parents migrated from the Philippines to the States before
she was born in order to continue their educational studies. Her father, Leon Ong Chua is an
American electrical engineer and computer scientist. He is a professor in the electrical
engineering and computer sciences department at the University of California, Berkeley. His
nationality is Holko and American. On the other side, the authors mother, Diana Chua was born in
China and moved to the Philippines at the age of 2. She converted to Catholicism when she was in
high school and received a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Santo Tomas. Amy
has three sisters and they are all known to be successful in their own ways. Amy Chua has 2
daughters: Sophia and Louisa. With Chua s Tiger parentingmethods, Sophia seems to respect and
listen to her mother which is the opposite than Lulu (Louisa). Lulu has more western
characteristics. For example, she talks back and doesn t respect her mother s orders. Briefly, these
aspects form her native identity. Amy Chua s evolution seemed to involve her inherited identity.

Smoking in Public Buildings Should Be Banned
Smoking in Public Buildings Should be Banned Is it true that secondhand smoke can have almost
the same health effects as smoking a cigarette? Is it true that some countries have banned smoking
in public buildings already? Is it easy to guess how those bans turned out? The countries that
banned smoking in public buildings are experiencing fewer health problems in their citizens and
have had no negative economic effects due to the ban. Even though everyone should be able to do
what they want, where they want if it is not hurting anyone, smokingshould be banned in public
buildings because it causes health and environmental problems. Smoking causes health problems
for everyone around the world, not just people near smokers. Most people know that smoking can
cause countless health problems; a group of scientists conducted a study showing the effects of
secondhand smoke in nonsmokers. The scientists knew in 2004 that, on a worldwide scale, the
health concerns created by exposure to tobacco smoke for nonsmokers were not well known. They
tested people and found the effects from worldwide exposure in children and adults, and these
statistics have probably risen in the past ten years (Г–berg, Jaakkola, Woodward, Peruga, PrГјss

female non smokers were exposed to second hand smoke in 2004. This exposure was estimated to

Paul Harvey s Speech So God Made A Farmer
The Man of Steel On his talk show Paul Harvey had one famous speech So God made a Farmer.
In the speech he describes a farmer as firm but caring, He says, . . . It had to be somebody who d

those things he listed seeding, weeding, and plowing. Plowing might be last on the list for Paul
Harvey, but it is the first accomplishment of John Deere which turned into to a big and
outstanding company. John Deere created the first steel plow in a little blacksmith shop in
Illinois. Farmers had a great deal of problems when it came to plowing. The plow would try to
get through the dark and rich dirt. Then in a matter of moments, the plow would be full of dirt
that farmers would have to quit plowing and scrape off the dirt (OH, DEERE). The black soil is
what caused the plow to get full of wet dense dirt which that called Gumbo (John Deere, That s

the steel blades off of a sawmill, he thought that the curved and shiny might go through the gumbo

The Themes Of Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption is a prison drama movie released in 1994 and is based on a novella
named Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption . The novella was written by Stephen
King and published in 1982 in a compilation of four novellas which was named Different
Seasons. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption was the first novella in the book; King
called this first chapter HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL. The rest of the novella chapters had
references to summer, fall and winter. However, King pointed directly to the main theme of the
novella by his emphasis on HOPE. Imprisonment is obviously an isolating and fearful
experience. Ironically, after long incarceration, many prisoners become institutionalized and so
used to the bars, the tight schedules and the prison guards that they become afraid of freedom or
even the hope of freedom. As King stated in an interview, What are we afraid of, as humans?
Chaos. The outsider. We re afraid of change. We re afraid of disruption, and that is what I m
interested in. (Lehmann Haupt, www.theparisreview.org) Both the book and the movie explore
these fears, but keep hope alive in the human condition by describing one prisoner s ability to
retain his self worth despite being in a hopeless situation. His outlook on life, his inner light kept
him hopeful that he could become free again.

not let it barrier me from not going to a different table. She would come up and fix the problem

And the reason of it was still the cost. Indeed, this former strategices failed to match their product
characteristics with their supply priorities. That is, it cannot minimize their product cost. For

design was still increasing the cost in China s factories increase equipment cost cannot make good

According to the reading, it is true that When digital camera and camcorder first appeared on the
market in the early 1900s, Sony only had a few competitors such as Canon and Olympus (49).
Thus, it cannot be denied that Sony can gained a competitve advantage by reducing price, thus
Sony placed its production in China in order to reduce the product s assembly and manufacturing.
However, when more competitors came, this strategices cannot work very well under this new
circumstance, because for high value added products like digital camera and camcorder, company
cannot just focus on the manufacturing cost and minizing cycle time is also attached great
importance. The short produce life cycle requires the company has more flexiable supply chain,
otherwise it will increase its inventory cost. Imagine that if Sony still placed its production in China,

Colonialism, And Racism
Racism has been a controversial topic prevalent in social and political subject matters throughout
most areas of history. Many times, works of literature reflected these issues that were in society and
politics; the issues were usually highlighted to show the results of such a complicated and extensive
ideology. One such author that elaborated on this system was Aphra Behn, who wrote Oroonokoin
1688. This was a significant point in time because of how many shifts the 17th century brought to
Europe. Not only were there advances in sciences which, in turn, clashed with Christian doctrines
that were in place, discoveries of the New World caused various countries to practice new isms. As
imperialism and colonialism began to make its mark upon the world, especially in Europe, so did
racismand the problems that came with it. Slavery, which would later become tied to racism, had
already been a part of society as early as the ancient civilizations. However, people did not feel
that slavery was a debatable issue, and it wasn t until later that people began to speak against it.
Consequently, writers often used literature as a driving force for either contextualizing or
negating such ideas, and Aphra Behn s Oroonoko can be used as an example of this style. The
complex story Oroonoko places its focus on the character of a black slave, which is ironic on
several different levels. Not only was Aphra Behn a white woman of Great Britain, she served as a
spy for Charles II at a time in

Will Trump s Lower The Tax Rate Reduce The Budget...
Will Trump s Lower the Tax Rate Reduce the Budget Deficit?
We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is
increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, defines the
deficit as spending that exceed a revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from
over spending from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the
government had a budget deficit almost every year between 1970 and 1997, but the tax cut and
more spending on defense by President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also,
another cause is from reducing of productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut)
(483). Even when the government had some budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In
2012, the debt grew over $ 16 trillion, (482 483) and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9
percent of the budget deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the
economic depression, sometime policymakers cut the taxes and increase spending again by putting
more money into the private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore, government goes further with the
budget unbalancing. There are several reasons that lower the tax rate will not reduce the budget
deficit closer to a balance.
First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring the
different amounts of revenue for the previous year if the tax rate falls

Bird Sings
In I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings , a young African American woman tells of her experience
in dealing with issues all females face at a point in their lives, such as self esteem issues, gender
oppression, and rebellion. She faces the struggle of who she wants to be versus living in the
reality of whom she actually is. In various points of the reading, she often finds herself drifting
off into her thoughts with the wishes of being someone she isn t, with references to movie stars ,
and one of those sweet little girls who were everybody s dream of what was right with the world .
When in reality she was a Southern girl, donned in hand me downs, preparing herself to give a
speech in church on Sunday morning. The young girl nervously stood... Show more content on

rebellion comes in this passage. She stated I d get a whipping for it, to be sure, and the nasty

How New Technologies Impacted The Purchasing Habits Of The...
The rapid growth in technological capability, accessibility and usability during recent memory is
undeniable: in January 2015, almost 42% of the world s population had access to the internet,
there were 2.08 billion active social media accounts worldwide, mobile cellular internet
penetration was on an all time high with approximately 3 billion unique mobile users, including
more than 70% penetration in many emerging markets and developing nations worldwide. This
widespread prevalence comes with the ability to manifest market power and influence buying
decisions on a new, much larger scale. This essay will analyse in what ways new technologies
have impacted the purchasing habits of the public, their effects on the consumer decision making
process and how, if at all, marketers can utilise these new technologies in their favour and
influence consumers preferences. Purchasing behaviour varies depending on factors such as time
available for deliberation and decision making, the involvement in the purchase and the number of
options and alternatives. Despite the exact process adopted being unknown, there is a standard
known as the consumer decision making process, or CDP that many purchases follow. The first
step is need recognition, or becoming aware of a problem that can be solved by purchasing a
certain product. These can be functional needs, serving as a solution to a physical problem (such as
refuelling a vehicle), or alternatively fulfil emotional needs, including

Essay On Wrongful Convictions
A wrongful conviction occurs when a person is accused of a crime and later on is found to be
innocent. Wrongful convictions lead to innocent people serving sentences for an events they were
not guilty of. Wrongful convictions happen because of false confessions, incentivized informants,
inadequate defense, misapplication of forensic science, an unfair trial, and media influence.
Although wrongful convictions primarily bring negative consequences towards the convicted, there
also are negative effects towards the prosecutor and the victims of the crime. This pressurizes for
both sides to bring forth reliable testimonies and evidence to the trial. The usage of DNAin a trial

Eyewitness misidentification are the leading errors to a wrongful conviction. Although there is
such a high risk for errors, it is still the most powerful testimony or piece of evidence during a trial.
With the value an eyewitness is given, there are many risks a prosecutor takes when using them as
their most important piece of evidence. Throughout the process, starting from the crime and going
until the conviction, eyewitnesses are placed under stress and anxiety. There is also the flaw that
the human brain tends to overlook specific details. According to the California Innocence Project,
details like a stranger s height, weight, age, and hair are often overlooked . ( Eyewitness
Identification Problems and Procedures. . . ). And therefore leads to witnesses filling in the
missing pieces based off of their inference and what they feel like the suspect is supposed to look
like. Through this process the brain is trying to come up with a clear picture of the event, and
does so by imaging details. Even if a witness does observe either the weapon or the offender with
detail, the other is often overlooked and leads to little information about the event as a

What Is The Theme Of The Glass Menagerie
Struggling between illusion and reality always drives people crazy. The general theme made by
Tennessee Williams in her work The glass menagerie is that people have difficulties in accepting
and relating to reality. More specifically, Mr. Williams indicates that even though sometimes
people realize what the reality is, they try to escape and look for comfort in their private world of
illusion.
Tennessee Williams was born in a chaotic family of which the environment inspired him of the
writings. Since Williams had diphtheria, which caused his inability in physical activities, he stayed
at home and started creating of imagination on the typewriter. His father was an abusive and

partial to real world values and longs for social and financial success. She cannot accept that she is

peculiar, that Tom is not a budding businessman, and that she herself might be in some ways
responsible for the sorrows and flaws of her children. Amanda s retreat into illusion is in many ways
more pathetic than her children s, because it is not a willful imaginative construction but a wistful
distortion of reality.

passage is extremely important to Mae s action in the book from this point forward and her constant

Dr. Jim Yong Kim
In 1987, while still in medical school, Dr. Paul Farmer along with Dr. Jim Yong Kim, Ophelia Dahl,
Thomas White and Todd McCormack founded Partners in Health (PIH).1 Since its meager
beginnings, PIH has evolved to serve some 2.5 Million people throughout ten different countries.2
However, throughout the organizations grand transformation from a makeshift clinic in Haiti to
one of the leading players in global health relief and development, Partners in Healthhave remained
true to their mission to provide advance medical treatment for those most in need through strategic
partnerships. 3
Growing up Paul Farmer was surrounded by poverty and a fair amount of everyday difficulty.4
Rather than being limited by his childhood circumstance, Farmer thrived and earned a full
scholarship to Duke University, where he became enthralled with learning more about the country
of Haiti. Following graduation, Farmer went to Haiti to better understand the culture of the country
he had become so interested in. While working at an eye clinic he met future co founder of Partners
in Health Ophelia Dahl.4
During his search of the country of Haiti, Farmer became convinced that something needed to be
done about the lack of health care being provided to the poor.4 Upon visiting Cange, Farmer
decided that was where he would like to start a clinic for those most in need. In 1984, Farmer
started medical school at Harvard, but rather than spending most of his time at school like normal

The Music Of Hip Hop
Hip hop is a very broad subculture due to the fact that it is comprised of so many other
subcultures. The four main factions of Hip hop are MCing(master of ceremonies) better
identified today as rapping, DJing (disk jockey), breakdancing and Graffiti. Break dancing is
known as the physical manifestation of the hip hop style (Rose 47). The Hip hop subculture has a
long lineage and the four main factions where all foraged together in the same place at the same
time. Even though the culture at the time was viewed as deviant hip hop slowly became a very
popular subculture in America. Due to the fact that Hip hop is so popular makes me believe that
the breaking subculture has been absorbed into mainstream culture.
Break dancing was first performed by underprivileged black and Puerto Rican youth in the mid
1970 s at the height of disco s popularity. The purpose of a disco DJ at the time was to hide or
erase the breaks in between the songs. It was within these breaks that break dancers would come
out and [execute] moves that imitated the rupture in the rhythmic continuity as it was highlighted
in the musical break . Hence the name breakdancers.(Rose 47) The moves that are done in
breakdancing share resemblances to a number of Afro diaspora dances and well as African
American dances, Afro Brazilian martial arts dance Capoeira and even common dances don in the
1920 s. While the dance moves are deeply rooted in the cultures that created them, they are not just

Spanish and English Exploration Essay
*********** HS 201 005 Paper #1 Sept. 8, 2010 Spanish and English had similar motivations
for exploration of the New World, such as gaining land, goods from the natives, and gold.
However, their motivations also differ greatly. The Spanish conquistadors also gained slaves
from the native people, as well as spreading the word of Christianity. The English settlers came to
the New World to get away from the religious oppression in England and to practice religion
freely, and to grow tobacco to send back to England. The Spanish gained much more land quickly
because, upon landing in places like the Caribbean and Brazil, because of their conquering and
enslaving of the natives. The English came to the New World much less prepared,... Show more

Eventually one of Cortes men led a massacre of the Mexican nobles, and murdered Montezuma.
These conquests led to other conquests with the motivation of more gold and more land.
Another conqueror, Francisco Pizarro, also led his men to capture an emperor, Atahualpa of the
Incans, and held him for a ransom of silver and gold. With this gold and silver, as well as land,
they executed Atahualpa. These violent raids proved beneficial to the Spanish, helping them
spread their conquered land further south in the Americas. This quest made the Spanish not only
rich in silver and gold, but in land and with slaves, by use of violent force. The English had
similar motivations to that of the Spanish, and were even inspired by the success of the Spanish
conquistadors to come to the New World and settle on new land. However, the motivations
differed greatly as well. The English hoped to provide jobs for people in the New World that
could not find them in England, also in hopes of helping England s economy. The colonists set up
a colony at Jamestown to defend themselves against the Indians, and eventually Powhatan s
people came forward to open the trade of corn with the colonists. This corn eventually kept the
colonist alive until another ship of more people and supplies came in. This however, did not
prepare the colonists for the winter of 1609 1610, or the starving time , when only 60 of the original

The Effects Of Vaccination On Children And Children
published a controversial study in British journal Lancet where he linked MMR vaccination to
autism. (Should I include what his study was based on and results?) Years later, many other studies
proved it wrong but mistrust of science and mistrust of government is still there (2011). For
example, Phea Paul study stated that there is no evidence that autism is cause by any vaccineand
therefore no reason for parents to deny a child protection in today s vaccines offered (2009). His
study shows that if comparing risks mathematically of death or disability as a result of not

immunizing it increases significantly.
Despite the fact, that some people believe that vaccination is bad, majority of the population still

major cause of severe acute gastroenteritis or AGE. Previously it infected nearly every child in
United States by age of 5 years old until routine rotavirus vaccination on United States infants began

Photosynthesis of Elodea
Photosynthesis
Abstract: An experiment was carried out to determine how certain factors such as light intensity
and availability of carbon dioxide, affected the rate of photosynthesis. The rate of photosynthesis
was measure by the amount of oxygen produce (cm3/min).
A valid conclusion was made and most of the results were in accordance with the prediction,
although there were some anomalies present. The errors and limitations were evaluated and some
improvements were suggested.

The Real Slumdogs Essay
The Real Slumdogs Macrosociology and Microsociology Macrosociology is an approach to
sociology which emphasizes the analysis of social systems and populations on a large scale, at
the level of social structure, and often at a necessarily high level of theoretical abstraction.
Microsociology, by contrast, focuses on the individual social agency. Macrosociology also
concerns individuals, families, and other constituent aspects of a society, but always does so in
relation to larger social system of which they are a part. Macrosociology can also be the analysis
of large collectivities. Human populations are considered a society to the degree that is
politically autonomous and its members to engage in a broad range of cooperative activities.
For example, this definition would apply to the population of Germany being deemed a society,
but German speaking people as a whole scattered about different countries would not be
considered a society. Macrosociology deals with broad societal trends that can later be applied to
the smaller features of a society. To differentiate, macrosociology deals with issues such as war,
distress of Third World nations, poverty, and environmental deprivation, whereas microsociology
analyses issues such as the role of women, the nature of the family, and immigration of people.
Within the mega city of Mumbai, India is the slum city of Dharavi inhabited by 1,000 people living
in extreme poverty. There is much filth, little access to water and unreliable

  • 3. The Limitations Of Contemporary Currency Hegemony And The... Chapter 4 The Limitations of Contemporary Currency Hegemony and the Transition to Multipolarity The prevailing presumption amongst currency scholars of the past century is that issuing a currency that dominates global markets and trading is of overwhelming benefit, largely interpreted via the gains made by the US as the issuer of the dollar. These benefits have been both political and economic in nature, as discussed in the previous chapter. However, both domestic and external factors have begun to detract from the dollar s pinnacle currency gains, and leads to questions of whether what was once described as an exorbitant privilege is deteriorating to the extent that it is a burden. While assessing the dollar s evolved role as a burden appears premature, nonetheless it appears the capacity of the US to use the dollar as a mechanism for power is under threat. In fact, the US dollar may well be more than just under threat . It is no longer able to exert influence like it once was, but relies on the benefits it solidified for itself at the formation of the globes monetary structures. The leverage available to the United States through the use of dollars is still greater than any rival currency, but it is not absolute as it was decades before. While much has been written about the euro, and the dollars other potential replacements at the pinnacle of the currency pyramid, what appears more likely is a leaderless currency system as Cohen termed it, with no clear ... • 4. Persuasive Essay On Punishment What is punishment? Punishment according to Flew has five elements to its reasoning. Whatever the crime was, it must involve an unpleasantness to a victim, must be an offense outlined in the law, there must be an offender, there must not be natural actions of consequences and lastly, it must be imposed by authority or an institution against their rules of offense that have been committed (Banks, 2016). Flew also believes that if the crimefalls outside of this scope, it is rather a hostile act rather than punishment(Banks, 2016). Why should offenders be punished? Punishment is meant to stop people from committing further crimes. Punishment also informs criminals that society doesn t approve of the harm they ve caused against victims. Punishment also is a form of messaging to others that if they commit the same crime or cause the same disapproved pain against something or someone, they will also be punished under the law set in place. Lastly, punishment protects society as a whole from dangerous and/or dishonest people (Banks, 2016). In an utilitarian approach to punishment, philosophers such as Bentham believes that punishment can be justified only if the harm that it prevents is greater that the harm inflicted on the offender through punishment (Banks, p. 156). Bentham also believes that if punishment doesn t deter further crime from happening, it s only adding to humanity suffering (Banks, 2016). Utilitarians try to use punishment as a means to the end and not the end ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Conflict In A Tale Of Two Cities By Charles Dickens And... As with any historical fiction of work of literature, conflict is a neccesary element in a novel. It is mainly used to build plot and suspense. A Tale of Two Cities written by Charles Dickens and Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott are both good examples of novels in which conflicts between play an important role and in this novelit is mainly the struggles between social groups which are of big importance. There are a lot of differences but also similarities concerning the points of view of the narrators on the struggles between the social groups. In this essay I will discuss these differences and similarities between the opinions of Sir Walter Scott and Charles Dickens on social conflicts. Dickens used the development of a conflict between the French lower class and the French government and aristocracy to build plot and suspense. The nobility (the government and aristocracy) is extremely rich and the French lower class are exactly the opposite, very poor. The French lower class suffered for a long time under the tight rulings and restraints of the French government and aristocracy. The lives of ignorant French poor people are described by Charles Dickens as horrendous: And who among the company at Monsignor s reception in that seventeen hundred and eightieth year of our Lord, coud possibly doubt, that a system rooted in a frizzled hangman, powdered and gold laced, pumped, and white silk stockinet, would see the very stars out! • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Biosurfactants 1.INTRODUCTION Biosurfactants are compounds which are produced by microbial cell surface or excreted extracellularly. They are amphiphilic in nature that contain both hydrophobic and hydrophilic moieties. They reduce the surface and interfacial tension (Karanth et al., 1999). Production of microbial compound and its characterization has been increased due to its property in which it can used as a agent in enhanced oil recovery properties, and also useful in a broad spectrum of potential application (Banat et al., 2010). • 7. Social Class In Madame Bovary In the novel Madame Bovary, Flaubert drew attention to the concept of social class and studiously built all the characters according to their place in the communal hierarchy. Housekeepers, nurses, and footmen, were representatives of the lower class people, who served a purpose of aiding the middle class families, including the Bovary s. The higher class consisted of Rodolphe (the wealthy aristocrat) and the guests we were introduced to at the ball earlier on in the book. The novel s protagonist, Emma Bovary, who was educated in a convent and raised in the country, was undoubtedly categorized as a middle class woman, yet whether or not that was her rightful status is the overriding question. Emma married Charles at a young age in an attempt to detach herself from the mediocre way of life at the farm, yet he failed to live up to the fanatical romance and sophistication her novels set. • 8. Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory Comparison The movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Mel Stuart, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, directed by Tim Burton, are both outstanding artwork that impressed the public. In this essay, I will examine how the Burton achieved to convert the genre of the previous movie to attract audiences from different centuries and examine how Berger s and Lethem s claims relate to my observations. Stuart s imagination of the chocolate factory was the first attempt to translate Dahl s book from text into visual. Before the creation, there was no alike movie existed. Without any expectations from viewers, they were amazed to this interpretation of the fantasy. When Burton reproduced the movie, the one of a kind idea was refined. The combination contained old and new ideas. Everything is a mixture of something belonged to the past. The Oompa Loompas was introduced with green skin and orange hair by Stuart. Burton exaggerated the character with an even more shocking appearance. Lethem claimed that old and new make the warp and woof of every moment (686). • 10. Dairy Cows Rumination Time Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, Calamari (2013), uncovered differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that lower ruminations times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows will enable an early detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death. Rumination Time data can be also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical symptoms of diseases and metabolic inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, Calamari, 2013). • 11. Frank Norris s Mcteague Since the beginning of time, humans like animals, possess certain innate behaviors that both are naturally born with. For example, animals are born, taken care of and spend their life making sure they have enough food in order to survive and in the end, reproduce. Similarly, humans also possess a natural instinct to survive, consume, and reproduce in order to keep this on going cycle alive. The comparison between humans and animals at time may disturb certain people due to the simplification and degradation of the human race. However, it is this naturalistic view in life that certain individuals believe should not be shielded from the public in order to protect people and instead, believe it is necessary to educate as many people possible in the reasoning and acceptance of mankind s innate actions. The novel McTeague, written by Frank Norris, is a book that demonstrates an individual s natural behaviors and desires which continues to be carried out by people today just as it has been since the beginning of time. It is through McTeague, that Frank Norris illustrates mankind s naturalistic behavior that not only grabs the attention of the readers but infuriates the public as well. The website mocks India s social evil, and it exposes some of the unhealthy factors families consider in order to arrive to dowry rate. Some of the factors are caste, education of the groom and even skin color. In Indiathe custom of dowry is a very old tradition that originated in the 13th or 14th century, when women were not given any share from paternal wealth and when women were regarded as the property of either their fathers or their husbands. Arundhati Roy depicts dowry as old fashioned when she describes the hotel Heritage. Author says: The furniture and knickknacks that came with the house were on display. Humans have a tendency of taking advantage of other humans. An example of this factor is when people try to use other people for money. To some individuals this may seem like a good idea at first, however, this idea can back fire when the people who had gotten taken advantage of get angry. The said actions can even result in a fight. Another example of something that is taken advantage of in modern time is technology. Technology is used for practically everything in present time (as it was in Jurassic Park). This causes humans to become very attached and dependent on every aspect of technology. For instance, if a person s phone or laptop were to ever crash, he or she would think it was the end of the world. Del Villar wanted to use ashlar columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with rubblework, than covering them with ashlar. This started arguments with the Foundation, who criticized De Villar for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned because he was not happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year old architect Antoni Gaudi as successor. This substantial amount of communication time would suggest that the importance of effective communication is needed in order to achieve objectives. Introduction For the better part of the 20th century, those convicted of crimes and sentenced to serve time in prison, who also have an addiction have been treated unfairly. Substance use disorder has been viewed as a disease for decades now, and despite this, this disease is not being treated in America s prison systems properly. The recent sentencing of Cameron Douglas, son of legendary actor Michael Douglas, to four and one half years additionally in federal prison has brought this crucial injustice to light. Cameron was serving a five year sentence for various drug related charge and is an admitted addict of intravenous cocaine and heroin. Heroin was discovered in the cell he resided in, and in an unprecedented legal proceeding, Judge Richard Berman gave Cameron the longest sentence on record for a prisoner found to have drugs while incarcerated. As of 2013, of those prisoners serving at least a year long sentence, 51 percent (98,200) of them were serving for drug offenses (Carson, 2014). The novella was written by Stephen King and published in 1982 in a compilation of four novellas which was named Different Seasons. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption was the first novella in the book; King called this first chapter HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL. The rest of the novella chapters had references to summer, fall and winter. However, King pointed directly to the main theme of the novella by his emphasis on HOPE. Imprisonment is obviously an isolating and fearful experience. Ironically, after long incarceration, many prisoners become institutionalized and so used to the bars, the tight schedules and the prison guards that they become afraid of freedom or even the hope of freedom. As King stated in an interview, What are we afraid of, as humans? Chaos. The outsider. We re afraid of change. We re afraid of disruption, and that is what I m interested in. (Lehmann Haupt, www.theparisreview.org) Both the book and the movie explore these fears, but keep hope alive in the human condition by describing one prisoner s ability to retain his self worth despite being in a hopeless situation. • 38. Colonialism, And Racism Racism has been a controversial topic prevalent in social and political subject matters throughout most areas of history. Many times, works of literature reflected these issues that were in society and politics; the issues were usually highlighted to show the results of such a complicated and extensive ideology. One such author that elaborated on this system was Aphra Behn, who wrote Oroonokoin 1688. This was a significant point in time because of how many shifts the 17th century brought to Europe. Not only were there advances in sciences which, in turn, clashed with Christian doctrines that were in place, discoveries of the New World caused various countries to practice new isms. As imperialism and colonialism began to make its mark upon the world, especially in Europe, so did racismand the problems that came with it. Slavery, which would later become tied to racism, had already been a part of society as early as the ancient civilizations. However, people did not feel that slavery was a debatable issue, and it wasn t until later that people began to speak against it. Consequently, writers often used literature as a driving force for either contextualizing or negating such ideas, and Aphra Behn s Oroonoko can be used as an example of this style. The complex story Oroonoko places its focus on the character of a black slave, which is ironic on several different levels. We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, defines the deficit as spending that exceed a revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from over spending from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the government had a budget deficit almost every year between 1970 and 1997, but the tax cut and more spending on defense by President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also, another cause is from reducing of productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut) (483). Even when the government had some budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In 2012, the debt grew over $ 16 trillion, (482 483) and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9 percent of the budget deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the economic depression, sometime policymakers cut the taxes and increase spending again by putting more money into the private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore, government goes further with the budget unbalancing. There are several reasons that lower the tax rate will not reduce the budget deficit closer to a balance. First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring the different amounts of revenue for the previous year if the tax rate falls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, their motivations also differ greatly. The Spanish conquistadors also gained slaves from the native people, as well as spreading the word of Christianity. The English settlers came to the New World to get away from the religious oppression in England and to practice religion freely, and to grow tobacco to send back to England. These conquests led to other conquests with the motivation of more gold and more land. Another conqueror, Francisco Pizarro, also led his men to capture an emperor, Atahualpa of the Incans, and held him for a ransom of silver and gold. With this gold and silver, as well as land, they executed Atahualpa. These violent raids proved beneficial to the Spanish, helping them spread their conquered land further south in the Americas. This quest made the Spanish not only rich in silver and gold, but in land and with slaves, by use of violent force. The English had similar motivations to that of the Spanish, and were even inspired by the success of the Spanish conquistadors to come to the New World and settle on new land. However, the motivations differed greatly as well. The English hoped to provide jobs for people in the New World that could not find them in England, also in hopes of helping England s economy. The colonists set up a colony at Jamestown to defend themselves against the Indians, and eventually Powhatan s people came forward to open the trade of corn with the colonists. • 56. The Real Slumdogs Essay The Real Slumdogs Macrosociology and Microsociology Macrosociology is an approach to sociology which emphasizes the analysis of social systems and populations on a large scale, at the level of social structure, and often at a necessarily high level of theoretical abstraction. Microsociology, by contrast, focuses on the individual social agency. Macrosociology also concerns individuals, families, and other constituent aspects of a society, but always does so in relation to larger social system of which they are a part. Macrosociology can also be the analysis of large collectivities. Human populations are considered a society to the degree that is politically autonomous and its members to engage in a broad range of cooperative activities. For example, this definition would apply to the population of Germany being deemed a society, but German speaking people as a whole scattered about different countries would not be considered a society. Macrosociology deals with broad societal trends that can later be applied to the smaller features of a society. To differentiate, macrosociology deals with issues such as war, distress of Third World nations, poverty, and environmental deprivation, whereas microsociology analyses issues such as the role of women, the nature of the family, and immigration of people.
