NetBIOS (Network Basic Input/Output System) is a service in Windows OS that resolves computer names to IP addresses, primarily operating in local area networks (LAN). It offers three services: name service for name resolution, datagram distribution service for connectionless communication, and session service for connection-oriented communication. However, it generates more traffic and faces challenges in large-scale network management, potentially making file servers inaccessible if they malfunction.
