Muscling Into the Mainstream
Summary of Article The title of my article is called Muscling Into the Mainstream, and it was written
in the New York Times on August 7, 2008. What this article is trying to discuss is how Under Armour
is steadily moving itself into the mainstream of selling performance and/or sportswear. It talks about
what target markets that Under Armour is pursuing and what strategies it has used or is currently using
to reach out to those target markets. It also talks about how Under Armour has strictly controlled its
distribution to sporting goods stores, military base exchanges, and sports and military oriented outlets.
Finally, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An enemies weak spots are natural targets and the flank attack focuses on attacking those natural weak
spots through geographic dimensions and segmental dimensions. In this case, Under Armour uses the
segmental dimension. The segmental dimension serves the market s uncovered needs. As a matter of
fact, according to the Flank strategy, the purpose of marketing is to discover needs and satisfy them.
This is exactly what Under Armour has done and what it continues to do. It has been the fuel that
steers this ship to success. Under Armour is deliberately planning its future according to its consumer
base. For example, Under Armour is has recently entered the cross training footwear market by
releasing a very specific product which I will explain later in the paper. When CEO Kevin Plank was
asked as to why he was pursuing the cross training category, his answer was simple: It s the same
reason we went after football cleats, because our customer asked us for it. (Olson 2008) This
marketing concept has not only helped Under Armour grow exponentially, but it has helped Under
Armour separate itself from other sportswear giants like Nike. Nike s philosophy which believes in
telling the athlete what s best for them portrays them as being the loud, stubborn, know it all type
whereas Under Armour portrays themselves as the player friendly coach, who listens to its player s
feedback and adjusts its game plan accordingly.

Racism In To Kill A Mockingbird
It is extremely rare and almost impossible to find someone who has the fearlessness to be so different
that they are able to think and act on their own. Human bias is a huge factor contributing to the way
people think. Every day, humans are influenced by the people around them which alter individual
thoughts. Society is open to assistance when making decisions because of the fear that they are wrong
or different. This is where racism appears and becomes a problem just because of the impact people
have on each other. The most effective way to defeat fear is by acknowledging it, and in doing so
humans learn to fight through their fear which eventually results in diminishment. The world would
become a more delightful, friendly place where people think and act on their own. Racism would not
be an issue in society if people fixed a major flaw of not thinking for themselves. Humans do not have
the courage to say their own opinion because they fear to be wrong or different.
A countless amount of decisions are made every day including those in a courtroom. In the book To
Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the outcome of the court case is decided by human flaw and the
inability to think individually. Reverend Sykes says, I ain t never seen any jury decide in favor of a
colored man over a white man... (72). The reality of people not being able to think for themselves
increases the use of racism. The people of Maycomb have been influenced by those around them to a
point where they agree

Theodore Roosevelt s Childhood, And Ending With His Death
This Biography is on the life of Theodore Roosevelt. Beginning with his childhood, and ending with
his death. Describing in detail his early childhood, the author gives a good explanation of what
motivated the future President in his later years. The book also gives good insight into many of
Roosevelt s decisions during his adult years and political career, along with information from his
personal life, that many people may not have known. Theodore Roosevelt also known as Teddy
Roosevelt, or Teedie, was born in New York City on October 27th, 1856, to Martha and Theodore Sr.
Roosevelt. He was the second child and first boy of four children. Beginning early in his life Teddy
Roosevelt was a very sick child contracting bronchial asthma when he was only three years old. Teddy
Roosevelt was born into an old, rich and Aristocratic family. Teddy and his family lived in a small
house that was given to his father by his grandfather Cornelius Van Schaak Roosevelt(Donald, ).
Teddy and his siblings were homeschooled along with a family friend named Edith Kermit. Teddy
learned many life lessons from observing his parents, and close family growing up, and many of those
lessons he kept with him his whole life. Teddy was the only one of his siblings to make the decision to
acquire a higher education(Donald, ), going to Harvard University. After he graduated Teddy had
several jobs, including assemblyman, Police commissioner, assistant secretary of the navy, Governor
of New York,

Self-Disclosure In The Film Ordinary People
Self disclosure refers to communicating information about yourself that you would normally keep
hidden to others. Self disclosure has to involve at least one other individual and it has to be received
and understood by another individual. Who you are, your culture, your gender, your listeners and your
topic all influence self disclosure. Self disclosure and can have personal risks, relational risks, and
professional risks. Although the risks associated with self disclosure can be dangerous, the rewards of
self disclosure can be very beneficial. You can gain self knowledge, communication and relationship
effectiveness and physiological health. While watching the film, Ordinary People, I was able to
identify many examples of self disclosure between the charters in the film. The film, Ordinary People,
is about a family who has a very hard time dealing with the sudden and tragic death of their son.

emotional. During the meeting Conrad discloses that he is mad at his best friend for letting go of his
brother and he blames himself for the whole situation. He feels as if there was something he could
have done differently and that could have possible saved his brother s life. Dr. Berger s continues to
help him realize that he didn t do anything wrong. I don t believe there were any risks taken with
Conrad s self disclosure. Disclosing this information tremulously helped Conrad s self knowledge, and
physiological health. Dr. Berger reciprocated the disclosure by telling him that he is his friend and by
acting on being there for Conrad in an emergency situation in such a short notice and at such an
inconvenient time of

A Feminist Novel The Penelopiad By Margaret Atwood Essay
The Penelopiad is a novella by Margaret Atwood, published in 2005 in the Canongate Myth Series
where contemporary authors rewrite ancient myths. Atwood often portrays female characters
dominated and oppressed by patriarchy in her novels. Atwood believes that the feminist label can only
be applied to writers who consciously work within the framework of the feminist movement. The
novella s central themes include the effects of story telling perspectives, double standards between the
sexes and the classes, and the fairness of justice. Atwood s novel gives a voice to her hardships and the
wits she uses to get through her rough life, which is a form of the Feminist Resistance Theory. In The
Penelopiad , Penelope reminisces on the events during the Odyssey, life in Hades, Odysseus, Helen
and her relationships with her parents. A chorus of the twelve maids, whom Odysseus believed were
disloyal and whom Telemachus hanged, interrupt Penelope s narrative to express their view on the
events. The present paper is an analysis of the characterization of Penelope as the strongest woman in
Margaret Atwood s play The Penelopaid .
Key words: True Confessions, uniqueness, ideal wife, judicial arbiter, Resistance Essentialist,
essentialist feminism.

Critiquing nursing research
Through the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct (NMC, 2004)
nurses supply high standards of care to patients and clients. One code nurses adhere to is clause 6
which pronounces nurses must maintain professional knowledge and competence, have a
responsibility to deliver care based on current evidence, best practice and validated research (NMC,
2004). Validated research involves critiquing and acquiring the skills of synthesis and critical analysis,
this enables nurses to distinguish the relationship between theory and practice in nursing (Hendry
Farley 1998).

Although the reference from 1967 is outdated it is reasonable the authors included it since it is the
only research paper found on their particular subject. However this causes the reader to speculate the
reason this subject was studied. Because the authors and the reader did not discover any other
literature concerned with the subject this, could indicate that the authors literature search was
comprehensive which could prove validity of the study. However it is wondered if other researches
believed case notes were irrelevant compared to other objects in the hospital or if this is ground
breaking research. Improvement could have been made by the authors including the search engines
they had used as this would allow replication and evaluation of the paper. The literature the authors
cited used a quantitative approach as did the authors themselves thus identifying and employing the
underlying theoretical framework and giving credibility to the paper. Cutlcliff Ward (2003) suggests
the literature review guides the researcher in discussing the results of the study in terms of agreement
or non agreement with other studies, however there is no evidence of evaluation of material that
supports or challenges the position being proposed .This suggests the researches appear to have only
reported the finding of other studies and not examined the

Nursing Shortage and Nurse Turnover
Nursing shortage and Nurse Turnover
The ongoing instability evidenced from the high mobility of qualified nurses in the nursing workforce
has raised many questions about the issue of nursing shortage and nurse turnover (Gates Jones, 2007).
The paper below discusses the issues of nursing shortage and nurse turnover. The paper also describes
how leaders as well as managers in the nursing fraternity and other leaders can resolve those problems
effectively and the different applicable principles, skills, roles of the leader, and theories of leadership
and management.
There are various factors that are contributing to the current nursing shortage and turnover. Apparently
the major contributing factors in the USA are a population of nurses that are getting older without
adequate replacement, there are fewer than expected faculties dedicated to nursing, there are more
career fields opening up particularly for women hence the alternative choices instead of nursing,
federal government s failure to fund the nursing education across the country, generally unpleasant
working conditions and terms, poor retention of the nurses as well as an overstretched hence
overworked nursing staff. According to Paller (2012), the nursing shortage in different countries for
example the United States tends not to be the only growing problem, but has also become a complex
one. Nursing shortage and nurse s turnover has become the worsening predicament in the health care
industry in the United

Essay on Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology
The role of reflexivity in Anthropology has changed a great deal over time. The effects of doing
ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past. While
inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own will at least
cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause profound changes in the
way he or she will view the world. But in the past these changes were not important. What was
necessary for the ethnographer to do in the past was to document a culture break it down structurally
and quantify the observations made. The reflexive nature of his or her experiences were of little ...

(Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and put in
writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of living with the
trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief that perhaps the
reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on structuralizing and
bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not aware of, is to give others the
idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no means reflexive. The reason that
they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order so they may have their travels paid for
and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly reading audience.
As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic
research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in a
sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t
structure their realities all that differently. (Levi Strauss) While this may not seem to be reflexive and
it definitely is not blatantly expressed in the text, it is more philosophical and more geared towards
stimulating thoughts about the nature of life as we know it. While Levi Strauss may not have stated
this outright (he still had to appear

Comparing Jurisdiction And Venue
Jurisdiction vs. Venue Jurisdiction and venue are both very important factors in the court of law.
Jurisdiction is the authority given by law to a court to try cases and rule on legal matters within a
particular geographic area and over certain types of legal cases. Venue on the other hand is the proper
or most convenient location for trial of a case, usually the district of county where the crime was
committed. Jurisdiction and venue share similarities as well as differences. These two are similar
because they both deal with the location of the case, however they are different because jurisdiction
deals more so with power, and venue refers to the county or district within a state of the U.S. where
the lawsuit is to be tried. In some cases

Essay on A Critical Analysis of Lies My Teacher Told Me
A Critical Analysis of:Lies My Teacher Told Me
It would be better not to know so many things than to know so many things which are not so.
FELIX OKOYE
Out of all forms of literature currently known to man, educational textbooks are arguably the least
interesting. On top of being incredibly boring, textbooks, especially American history ones, neglect to
include the entirety of the information that it should. Because American history textbooks wish only to
paint the United States in a bright light, the authors opt to leave out anything that may hurt its image.

misinformed history students of today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, through the content of the rest of his book, he proves himself to be hypocritical by having laid
down an even more boring account of American history. While he makes a respectable attempt by
bringing forth potentially interesting flaws in history, it really doesn t compensate for how
disorganized the book is.
Loewen s first chapter to actually contain content about history deals with Americans misinformed
beliefs about apparent American heroes. He focuses primarily on Helen Keller and Woodrow Wilson,
both of which have little known facts about them that may impede on their statuses as heroes. While
informing his readers that Keller was a radical socialist who supported the USSR and that Wilson led
many motiveless invasions of Latin American countries is, in itself, interesting information to know.
However, Loewen constantly jumps back and forth between the two heroes and their descriptions,
causing him to not only fail at accurately portraying his message, but also send the reader into a
boundless pit of confusion which only gets worse as the book progresses.
Next up for this abomination of literature are two chapters about the frequently discussed myths of the
first settlers of America.

Analysis Of The Movie Kabuki
1. Kabuki Kabuki is a style of Japanese theater that evolved from Noh theater. Noh was slow,
contemplative, and philosophical, and eventually became so refined that it was considered
inaccessible and reserved for the educated upper classes. Kabuki was developed by the rising middle
class as popular entertainment, and included stylized fighting, aerial stunts, exaggerated makeup and
costuming, and physical and verbal comedy.
2. Nixon in China Nixon in China is an American opera portraying President Nixon s historic visit to
China. The opera pulls influences from the highly stylized Beijing opera performance style, and
portrays the clash of Asian and Western cultures that was manifested in the US tense relationship with
China prior to Nixon s visit.
3. Center Stage Left In traditional western theater stages (as opposed to street theater or theater in the
round) this is an area of the stage that is about halfway between the front edge and the back wall, and
to the left (as you are facing the audience) of the middle of the stage.
4. Prop a prop is any object that the actor can use to assist in conveying motion, meaning, or energy.

The Heart Reserves A Special Place For Music
The heart reserves a special place for music. To many, music is more than a melody or a combination
of sounds pulsating in ears; it brings out emotions, memories, and shared vibes. Whether a person is
an avid listener or casually listens to music, everyone has a few specific albums that laid a foundation
for the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one of these albums, Madvillainy,
when putting my old playlist on shuffle. The album consists of Daniel Dumile, the album s MC
(rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or Madlib.
The underground hip hop album was released in 2004 and is now considered a classic by many. The
album s 22 tracks consist of skits, instrumentals, and rapping with most tracks around two minutes
long. Madvillainy has proven to me to be a masterpiece and a consistently good listen.
One of the qualities that set Madvillainy apart from its peers, is the superb production performance
given by Madlib. The album s production is magnificent, even to Pitchfork standards, saying, the
samples are smart and never played out, and the production and rhymes reveal a determined sense of
cooperation, as Doom spouts off his most brilliant lyrical change ups and production conscious
playoffs (Pemberton). Like stated in Pitchfork, the production works cohesively with MF Doom s
rapping. For example, on the song Meat Grinder , the beat alone seems quirky, sounding like it
belongs in an episode of Spongebob,

Watada s Obligation
Though I cannot definitively say why Watada refused to deploy to Iraq, I can give ideas he possibly
contemplated in his mind. Watada likely viewed the deployment as illegal because he thought the US
did not have ad bellum issues which warranted war. Iraq had not violated our nation s territorial
integrity; they did invade Kuwait, but they had been pushed back onto their territory. We invaded Iraq
out of suspicion that they were constructing weapons of mass destruction, but this was purely
suspicion. Suspicion does not warrant a just cause because we are not attacked in any sense. Despite
this, our government viewed it as a just cause because of Iraq s past hostility, and this was
unacceptable to the young officer. Watada felt that it was his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By allowing Naval Officers to decide for themselves if they can participate in some conflict, the Navy
will have a good indication of who is committed to the war effort. If they were to refuse the orders,
officers should still be expected to carry out their role obligations as officers in the military. I believe a
good example of this is when Watada requested to be deployed to Afghanistan instead of Iraq. It is
clear in this case that he was not trying to escape his commitments, and all officers should still be held
to this standard. It is possible for everyone who joins the military to contribute to our nation s defense,
it is possible to deploy officers in a manner so that they do not enter a conflict believing their actions

The Princess Bride Life Lessons
How does it feel that a fantasy novel called The Princess Bride is quite educational and full of life
lessons? The book The Princess Bride by William Goldman is somewhat realistic fiction where
characters make irrational decisions. It s a wild storyline with kings, princesses, pirates, along with
giants, wizards, and resurrection. Nifty Lance is an online blogger who came up with a few life
lessons The Princess Bride may have taught its readers. The Princess Bride teaches its readers certain
lessons like; just because something seems impossible doesn t mean it s not possible, make the
opponent feel good, just because nobody has done it, doesn t mean you can t, and knowing when to
put the team first opposed to yourself first. One lesson portrayed in The Princess Bride is just because
nobody has done it, doesn t mean you can t. This lesson is saying someone always has to be the first to
do something (Lance). In the book, this lesson can be seen when Fezzik scaled the Cliffs of Insanity.

In this life lesson it is describing how sometimes you have to put the team as a priority rather than
being selfish. This lesson is portrayed in Goldman s novel when Inigo wants to find Count Rugen, but
has to storm the castle, so Westley can find Buttercup. Which leaves us probably now something over
half an hour to get in, steal the girl, but not before I kill Count Rugen (Goldman 330). A quote like this
showcases both sides of the lesson in a way, since Inigo wants to kill Count Rugen himself, but Inigo
knows he has to help steal and rescue Buttercup. Somewhere this lesson rings true in real life would

Infectious Diseases In Sub-Saharan Africa
Introduction:
A disease is considered infectious if it spreads from one person to another through airborne means
such as direct physical contact between people, or vectors such as insects. Infectious diseases are the
leading cause of death, accounting for a quarter to a third of the estimated 54 million deaths
worldwide (Gannon, 2000). Approximately half of all deaths caused by infectious diseases can be
attributed to three diseases; tuberculosis, malaria and AIDS (CDC, 2007). Together these diseases
cause over 300 million illnesses and more than 5 million deaths each year.
Issues and Concern:
Infectious diseases such as TB, malaria, hepatitis, HIV/AIDS are among the seven biggest killers
worldwide (Gannon, 2000). It is estimated that HIV/AIDS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In 1998, the Mars Climate Orbiter disintegrated in Mars upper atmosphere before it had the chance to
study the Martian climate, atmosphere and surface changes, as originally planned. The cause was due
to ground based computer software. The cause of the failure, facepalm ingly elementary, was a
momentary lapse of reason, during which calculations for atmospheric entry were input in metric, but
output in non SI units of pound seconds instead of the metric newton seconds, as specified in the

billions of dollars, they are steadfast in their resolve to ensure all hopes for future spaceflight plans are

Spanking Young Children
About 60% of parents in the United States use spanking as a method to discipline their young
children. In most cases parents believe that spanking is the only effective way to discipline their
children. According to the International Encyclopedia of Marriage and Family , spanking is often
referred as; one or two flat handed swats on a child s wrist or buttocks, but would not include a
beating with a whip or a belt, for others, spanking also includes slaps and pinches to the leg, arm,
back, or even the head, as long as no marks are left . While some parents favor spanking children,
others are against spanking children because they feel that teaching them and giving them
consequences is the way method for a child to behave. I believe that ... Show more content on

With the increasing number of families that have two working parents in a family children would want
to seek attention from parents at any rate they can. If parents spank them when they misbehave,
misbehaving constantly can make them feel somehow connected with parents.
Sometimes spanking a child is necessary to bring attention to the child when they are constantly
misbehaving. Some parents believe spanking is a great way to discipline a child because they would
become more obedient. For instance, many parents use corporal punishment as a last resort, some
parents may reluctantly spank their children because they cannot think of what else to do to show the
child the seriousness of his or her misbehavior (encyclopedia, 2003) Parents use spanking a child as a
way to make children act the way they are supposed to act. Many children go wild, since they have
never received any real punishment from either parent other than just getting grounded for
misbehaving. Sometimes parents lose control of their children due to the lack of disciplinary skills.
When parents lack disciplinary skills the children tend to have control of all situations. For example, a
child may be throwing food in the kitchen when they dislike the meal the parent prepares. The parents
do not use any act of physical punishment towards the children but rather ground them when they
misbehave. The

Ankle Arthroplasty
Although not as common as other joint replacement surgeries, total ankle arthroplasty can be just as
beneficial. There is more to a total ankle arthroplasty than just fixing the problem area. Ankle
arthroplasty, also called a TAA or total ankle replacement, is a surgical procedure that can give a
patient a better quality of life. Being in an orthopedic setting, I have seen numerous total knee
replacements as well as quite a few hip replacements but not one total ankle replacement. As I started
looking more into the topic, I discovered this procedure has an advantage over other ankle surgeries,
such as an ankle fusion. To start off, we will look at what is a total ankle arthroplasty, (TAA) and what
is done during surgery. The patient will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physical therapy is a huge part of the recovery process. Almost immediately following surgery, a
physical therapist will come in and do an evaluation on the patient and then either the PT or a physical
therapist assistant will help the patient start off with an exercise program. In the first few weeks
following surgery, the main goals for the patient are learning to walk with their walker or crutches and
gentle massage to the foot area. The patient can start a few exercises including keeping the knee and
hip joints strong and moving with strengthening and range of motion exercises. During weeks two
through six, other exercises are introduced including range of motion exercises for the ankle. Calf and
ankle stretches, towel crunches, and ankle range of motions with a babst board are all beneficial and
appropriate during this stage of treatment. After week six and x rays are taken to confirm the ankle has
healed, strengthening and weight bearing exercises can slowly be introduced to strengthen and
reeducate the ankle back into a normal walking program and gait pattern. Swelling, popping, and
decreased strength can be expected for at least the first year following the

Reverend Hale
Reverend Hale s Metamorphosis In Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, it is clear that Reverend John
Hale of Beverly is the character that undergoes the most dramatic transformation and is a perfect
example of how a well respected, strong willed man can be changed due to deceit and lies. His
reputation and control in the play moves between two extremes as the events continue shifting from
confident accuser to helper of the accused. Hale s arrival during Act I in Salem depicts him as
character full of confidence and eager to utilize his knowledge of witchcraft and he is clear of his
intentions. This is a beloved errand for him; on being called here to ascertain witchcraft he felt the
pride of one specialist whose unique knowledge has at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I I have indeed. [It is his own suspicion, but he resists it. He glances at Elizabeth, then at John] . His
stutter suggests that he is reluctant to reply to Proctor but ultimately he agrees. This quote reveals to us
that Hale is questioning the confessions of the girls for the first time. During this period we see Hale s
belief in the girl s story beginning to change as he begins to support Proctor. Hale s loss of control is
also demonstrated in Act II through his lack of knowledge on the current situation. When Cheever
stated that Elizabeth has been charged, Hale had no awareness of this accusation and has to ask
Cheever When were she charged? unlike the beginning of the play when everyone asked Hale
questions. Rebecca s charge also surprises Hale which once again proves that he is no longer in
control of the situation like he was at the beginning. Hale further questions the actions of the court and
the genuineness of the accusations here as he cannot believe that such supposedly innocent and holy
people are being accused. Hale s actions are very indefinite and he speaks in great uncertainty which
reflects his loss of control and completely contrasts the manner in which he spoke towards the
beginning of the play. His uncertainty is further proof of him beginning to question the justice of the
events and his beliefs. Once again, we see Hale s lack of control and loss of reputation in Act III.

Essay about Naturalism in The House of Mirth
Naturalism in The House of Mirth
Challenging the strict deterministic confines of literary naturalism, which hold that the human being is
merely one phenomenon in a universe of material phenomena (Gerard 418), Edith Wharton creates in
The House of Mirth a novel which irrefutably presents the human creature as being subject to a
naturalistic fate but which conveys a looming sense of hope that one may triumph over environment
and circumstance if one possesses a certain strength of will or a simple faith in human possibility.
Because of Wharton s slight deviation from naturalistic conventions, a literary debate exists among
critics as to the validity of viewing The House of Mirth as a novel which embodies ... Show more

Making this theme uniquely hers, however, is Wharton s creation of two characters who are
exceptions to the seemingly ubiquitous law of social determinism (Gerard 410). These characters,
Nettie Struther and Lawrence Selden, one triumphing over her environment through sheer will, the
other transcending it through faith in human possibility, create a small tear in the formidable fabric of
strict naturalism, thus engendering a hope for the triumph of the human spirit.
Edith Wharton develops Lady Bart as a character who is a product of her environment, preyed upon
by circumstance and fate. Lily s name, referring to a highly ornamental flower, immediately creates
the image of a delicate creature who is grown in the rich soils of society and who, if uprooted from
this societal soil, would wither and perish. Lily, as any living organism, is not simply a static figure in
her environment. Instead, she is a true naturalistic character, responsive and subject to the conditions
of her surroundings. For example, when Lily and Selden meet at Bellomont, Lily s beauty expanded
like a flower in sunlight (108) and, her face turned toward him with the soft motion of a flower (109).
Thus, although it can be argued that Lily is not a naturalistic character because of Wharton s emphasis

Robert Olen Butler is an author born in Granite City, Illinois who won a Pulitzer Prize. In writing this
short story, Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot , Robert Olen Butler writes about a character
whose life revolves around his wife and is a compulsively jealous husband. In this story, the main
character was a very jealous husband who dies because of the way he decided to deal with his wife s
cheating ways by climbing a tree and falling to his death, only to come back in life as a parrot and still

The husband seemed very helpless without her in his life When we held each other, I had no past at
all, no present but her body, no future but to lie there and not let her go. (Butler, 1995, pg189). He was
aware that his wife engaging in an affair with another man, but he accepted it because he was more
fearful of losing her, even though he wanted to know he would never confront her with the truth. He
knew he was a fool for her because he had to remind himself how he is not stupid and how he has to
lock himself into the bathroom in order to hide his rage. His life was similar living as a human and a
bird. As a human he locked himself inside the bathroom and as a bird he was locked inside a cage and
in both situations he was unable to express how he feels because there was something always holding
him back. The last thing he wanted was for his wife to hate him by bringing up other men she is
having affairs with. The husband s Behavior is what eventually leads to his death in both lives, he falls
from a tree in his human life and dies and when he was a bird he had that same jealousy so when he
seen his wife bring in multiple men he could not stand to see it anymore so he tries to fly away from
the house his wife and him once shared but end up falling and dying towards the end.

Blood Pressure Procedure
Getting your blood pressure taken is the first thing that nurses do when giving a check up to their
patients. When getting blood pressure checked the nurses put the arm ring, which goes around the arm
of the patient, is very uncomfortable and bulky. I have thought of a way that uses newer technology.
The supplies I will be using would be the blood pressure monitor and a piece of the heat monitor. The
piece of the heart monitor I would be using is the clamp that goes on the patient s finger. The reason I
am going to use this is because it is, seems to be, the more efficient way to make the blood pressure
monitor less uncomfortable and bulky as I had stated earlier. Sense I m not using the clamp for the
heart monitor to check the heart I need to enhance the clamper. The way I would enhance the clamper
would be to make the sensor a little more sensitive to the blood flow going through the arteries.
Instead of the blood pressure monitor going around the patients arm it would clamp on top the finger.

Definition Essay On Apathy
Tammy Nguyen Coach Keel English 1 5th 18 March 2016 Apathy What is the true meaning of
Apathy? Well, if one were to search the definition of apathy on google they would probably get
something like, lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. It is but it also isn t the definition of apathy.
The whole meaning behind apathy is more than just a lack of interest it s simply the explanation of
today s society. Apathy is when people have no sense of emotion towards anything, they don t care.
They absolutely have no motivation to do or think about anything. They have no goals that they want
to achieve because they have lost their sense in accomplishing things. Apathy has become one of the
most controversial issues in today s society. It s something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is by far the closest thing as to being apathetic. Procrastinating is a great example of being
apathetic because people don t care about what they need to do and they focus more on what they
want to do. Some blow off whatever they need to do until the last minute and others just don t do it at
all! They just hurt their selves when they procrastinate, because when people procrastinate they
usually get an over amount of stress just because they didn t do it earlier when they could have.
Procrastination is a huge sign that students like to wear and show their teachers how much they care.
That s the thing, if people don t show their teacher that they care then they will most likely not care
about students grade, but if they show that they do care their teacher will probably focus more on
helping their grade. Another example of apathy is in the election this year. America is full of apathetic
legalized voters and that s really not a good thing. They think it s a joke and that it s just hysterical.
But they re so full of themselves that they don t take the time to think about how their vote could
affect some people and even if they knew it would have a bad outcome for some, they don t care
enough to stop what they re doing and actually think about

Although, in this phrase, it is taken out of context. I m talking about the image, Thomas Pynchon is
talking about the story. Well, in this lifetime, it is the What does this mean. What does this mean. . . .

Pros And Cons Of Doctor Faustus
The idea of selling your soul to the devil for knowledge has been around for as long as Doctor
Faustus. Christopher Marlowe s play dealt with this controversial topic in 1590 s. The story of Doctor
Faustus is just as relevent today as it was hundreds of years ago. This paper will be a study of the pros
and cons of the idea of selling your soul to the devil.
Doctor Faustus was a well respected scholar; he was bored of and not happy with traditional forms of
knowledge like logic, medicine, law, and religion. He wanted to learn magic so two of his friends
promised to teach him the secrets of black magic. The first thing he did was summon
Mephasthophilis, one of Lucifer s servants. Since Doctor Faustus had great ambitions he told
Mephasthophilis to go back to Lucifer so he could strike a deal with the devil to learn everything in

There is evidence to support both. For example in the essay by Elizabeth Poole she discusses his
original goal that starts all this. His ambition to know and see things that no other human has seen
before is considered highly romantic. The way he handles himself after making the deal is the tragedy.
Sadly he is presented with several chances to repent but he refuses. Ms. Poole discusses his denial of
God and his wish for knowledge and control over nature. In Act 2 Scene 1, pg 16 19 he is confronted
by opposing angels good and bad. Faustus says : Contrition, Prayer, repentance what of these? the
good angel replies: O, they are means to bring thee unto heaven. the bad angel says: Rather illusions,
fruits of lunacy. That make them foolish that do use the most. Faustus chooses not to believe he can

The Current Status Of Galaxy Formation
The field of physics encompasses a variety of topics and sub disciplines which include astronomy,
cosmology, and particle physics, to name a few. As a student in the physics field, it is important to
understand how physicists actually write and make arguments in their respective disciplines. By being
able to analyze and rhetorically inspect an article, the material becomes more comprehensible and
some potential implications of the writing begin to resound with the reader. The more we learn about
the universe, the more we can predict what is to come and apply that knowledge to everyday life.
Physics is a highly technical field with most of its papers including an immense amount of jargon,
models, evidence, and observations. An inspection of an article entitled The Current Status of Galaxy
Formation, written by Joseph Silk and Gary Mamon and published in Research in Astronomy and
Astrophysics (RAA), demonstrates these qualities in abundance and goes beyond them into the realm
of how the research involving galaxy formation will change in the future. The exigence or urgency of
this article is never explicitly stated, but it can be garnered from a cursory inspection that furthering
the research in the field of cosmology (the study of the origin, evolution, and development of the
universe), especially as it applies to galaxies, can lead to scientific and public understanding of what
the future holds for us. This is important not merely for curiosity s sake, but also for

The Importance Of Voting In Australian Democracy
Voting takes place on a day chosen by the government. Federal elections occur three years before the
last election, but sometimes the government will call an election earlier. MPs in the federal House of
Representatives serve for a three year term. Some of the state and territory parliaments have four year
terms.
Who can vote?
Voting and having a say in Australian democracy has changed substantially since federation. In 1901
most male British subjects over 21 and resident in Australia could vote. In 1902, Australia became the
second country in the world, after New Zealand, to extend voting rights to women. The
Commonwealth Franchise Act in 1902, meant that women gained the right to vote and stand for
election to parliament.
In 1973, more Australians gained the right to participate in elections when the voting age was lowered
from 21 to 18 years old. Who should have the right to vote in Australia s democracy continues to be
discussed and can be changed by an Act of Parliament. People who are seventeen years old are
allowed to enrol to vote, but you are not allowed to vote until you are 18 years old or over.
To be able to vote, you would need to be an Australian citizen or a British subject who was on a
commonwealth electoral roll on the 25th of January since 1984. Australia is one of the few countries
who has compulsory voting. If a citizen, you must register first before you vote. Your name will be
entered on a list of electors which would be sent to the commonwealth of

Istj Application Essay Example
ISTJ So what is an ISTJ and who am I? As described above, I am a quiet and reserved individual who
uses experience to make analytical decisions, but only after a lot of thought and analyzing! In the
workplace, I keep to myself for the most part and do not do a lot of conversing with management that
does not pertain to work. Most of my recent professional life has been leadership roles, so having
someone working under me has been common for many years. In the workplace, I feel like I get along
better with them. I feel that I can interact amongst the employees on the floor and be myself more than
what I can with the guys dressed in suits. My positions are usually one of a supervisor or department
manager, so I am a liaison between the entry level employees and upper management. Some people
seem to get their bonus points by congregating with managers in their offices, but I m more
comfortable amongst the hourly workers that get the work completed. Obviously, I can communicate
with upper management, but keep it strictly professional with them. I keep work relationships minimal
because I have been burned by them before and have learned from it. I hired friends to work as
assistant managers under me for a period of time and saw my store begin to decline. I understood then
that I could not have close friends in important positions under me because the inability to separate
work from social life, and discipline and be taken serious, were too difficult at the time. Outside of
work,

  • 2. Under Armour Marketing Under Armour Current Marketing Topic Wendell Brown 9/22/2008 Muscling Into the Mainstream Summary of Article The title of my article is called Muscling Into the Mainstream, and it was written in the New York Times on August 7, 2008. What this article is trying to discuss is how Under Armour is steadily moving itself into the mainstream of selling performance and/or sportswear. It talks about what target markets that Under Armour is pursuing and what strategies it has used or is currently using to reach out to those target markets. It also talks about how Under Armour has strictly controlled its distribution to sporting goods stores, military base exchanges, and sports and military oriented outlets. Finally, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An enemies weak spots are natural targets and the flank attack focuses on attacking those natural weak spots through geographic dimensions and segmental dimensions. In this case, Under Armour uses the segmental dimension. The segmental dimension serves the market s uncovered needs. As a matter of fact, according to the Flank strategy, the purpose of marketing is to discover needs and satisfy them. This is exactly what Under Armour has done and what it continues to do. It has been the fuel that steers this ship to success. Under Armour is deliberately planning its future according to its consumer base. For example, Under Armour is has recently entered the cross training footwear market by releasing a very specific product which I will explain later in the paper. When CEO Kevin Plank was asked as to why he was pursuing the cross training category, his answer was simple: It s the same reason we went after football cleats, because our customer asked us for it. (Olson 2008) This marketing concept has not only helped Under Armour grow exponentially, but it has helped Under Armour separate itself from other sportswear giants like Nike. Nike s philosophy which believes in telling the athlete what s best for them portrays them as being the loud, stubborn, know it all type whereas Under Armour portrays themselves as the player friendly coach, who listens to its player s feedback and adjusts its game plan accordingly. • 4. Racism In To Kill A Mockingbird It is extremely rare and almost impossible to find someone who has the fearlessness to be so different that they are able to think and act on their own. Human bias is a huge factor contributing to the way people think. Every day, humans are influenced by the people around them which alter individual thoughts. Society is open to assistance when making decisions because of the fear that they are wrong or different. This is where racism appears and becomes a problem just because of the impact people have on each other. The most effective way to defeat fear is by acknowledging it, and in doing so humans learn to fight through their fear which eventually results in diminishment. The world would become a more delightful, friendly place where people think and act on their own. Racism would not be an issue in society if people fixed a major flaw of not thinking for themselves. Humans do not have the courage to say their own opinion because they fear to be wrong or different. A countless amount of decisions are made every day including those in a courtroom. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the outcome of the court case is decided by human flaw and the inability to think individually. Reverend Sykes says, I ain t never seen any jury decide in favor of a colored man over a white man... (72). The reality of people not being able to think for themselves increases the use of racism. The people of Maycomb have been influenced by those around them to a point where they agree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Theodore Roosevelt s Childhood, And Ending With His Death This Biography is on the life of Theodore Roosevelt. Beginning with his childhood, and ending with his death. Describing in detail his early childhood, the author gives a good explanation of what motivated the future President in his later years. The book also gives good insight into many of Roosevelt s decisions during his adult years and political career, along with information from his personal life, that many people may not have known. Theodore Roosevelt also known as Teddy Roosevelt, or Teedie, was born in New York City on October 27th, 1856, to Martha and Theodore Sr. Roosevelt. He was the second child and first boy of four children. Beginning early in his life Teddy Roosevelt was a very sick child contracting bronchial asthma when he was only three years old. Teddy Roosevelt was born into an old, rich and Aristocratic family. Teddy and his family lived in a small house that was given to his father by his grandfather Cornelius Van Schaak Roosevelt(Donald, ). Teddy and his siblings were homeschooled along with a family friend named Edith Kermit. Teddy learned many life lessons from observing his parents, and close family growing up, and many of those lessons he kept with him his whole life. Teddy was the only one of his siblings to make the decision to acquire a higher education(Donald, ), going to Harvard University. After he graduated Teddy had several jobs, including assemblyman, Police commissioner, assistant secretary of the navy, Governor of New York, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Self-Disclosure In The Film Ordinary People Self disclosure refers to communicating information about yourself that you would normally keep hidden to others. Self disclosure has to involve at least one other individual and it has to be received and understood by another individual. Who you are, your culture, your gender, your listeners and your topic all influence self disclosure. Self disclosure and can have personal risks, relational risks, and professional risks. Although the risks associated with self disclosure can be dangerous, the rewards of self disclosure can be very beneficial. You can gain self knowledge, communication and relationship effectiveness and physiological health. While watching the film, Ordinary People, I was able to identify many examples of self disclosure between the charters in the film. The film, Ordinary People, is about a family who has a very hard time dealing with the sudden and tragic death of their son. I don t believe there were any risks taken with Conrad s self disclosure. Disclosing this information tremulously helped Conrad s self knowledge, and physiological health. • 7. A Feminist Novel The Penelopiad By Margaret Atwood Essay The Penelopiad is a novella by Margaret Atwood, published in 2005 in the Canongate Myth Series where contemporary authors rewrite ancient myths. Atwood often portrays female characters dominated and oppressed by patriarchy in her novels. Atwood believes that the feminist label can only be applied to writers who consciously work within the framework of the feminist movement. The novella s central themes include the effects of story telling perspectives, double standards between the sexes and the classes, and the fairness of justice. Atwood s novel gives a voice to her hardships and the wits she uses to get through her rough life, which is a form of the Feminist Resistance Theory. In The Penelopiad , Penelope reminisces on the events during the Odyssey, life in Hades, Odysseus, Helen and her relationships with her parents. A chorus of the twelve maids, whom Odysseus believed were disloyal and whom Telemachus hanged, interrupt Penelope s narrative to express their view on the events. The present paper is an analysis of the characterization of Penelope as the strongest woman in Margaret Atwood s play The Penelopaid . Key words: True Confessions, uniqueness, ideal wife, judicial arbiter, Resistance Essentialist, essentialist feminism. DETAILED PAPER Margaret Atwood was born in Ottawa in 1939, and grew up in northern Quebec and Ontario, and later in Toronto. Atwood is a long line of women authors with feminist involvement. • 8. Critiquing nursing research Through the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) code of professional conduct (NMC, 2004) nurses supply high standards of care to patients and clients. One code nurses adhere to is clause 6 which pronounces nurses must maintain professional knowledge and competence, have a responsibility to deliver care based on current evidence, best practice and validated research (NMC, 2004). Validated research involves critiquing and acquiring the skills of synthesis and critical analysis, this enables nurses to distinguish the relationship between theory and practice in nursing (Hendry Farley 1998). This assignment will critique the research paper Patients case notes: look but don t touch written by Bebbington, Parkin, James, Chichester and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the reference from 1967 is outdated it is reasonable the authors included it since it is the only research paper found on their particular subject. However this causes the reader to speculate the reason this subject was studied. Because the authors and the reader did not discover any other literature concerned with the subject this, could indicate that the authors literature search was comprehensive which could prove validity of the study. However it is wondered if other researches believed case notes were irrelevant compared to other objects in the hospital or if this is ground breaking research. Improvement could have been made by the authors including the search engines they had used as this would allow replication and evaluation of the paper. The literature the authors cited used a quantitative approach as did the authors themselves thus identifying and employing the underlying theoretical framework and giving credibility to the paper. Cutlcliff Ward (2003) suggests the literature review guides the researcher in discussing the results of the study in terms of agreement or non agreement with other studies, however there is no evidence of evaluation of material that supports or challenges the position being proposed .This suggests the researches appear to have only reported the finding of other studies and not examined the ... • 9. Nursing Shortage and Nurse Turnover Nursing shortage and Nurse Turnover The ongoing instability evidenced from the high mobility of qualified nurses in the nursing workforce has raised many questions about the issue of nursing shortage and nurse turnover (Gates Jones, 2007). The paper below discusses the issues of nursing shortage and nurse turnover. The paper also describes how leaders as well as managers in the nursing fraternity and other leaders can resolve those problems effectively and the different applicable principles, skills, roles of the leader, and theories of leadership and management. There are various factors that are contributing to the current nursing shortage and turnover. Apparently the major contributing factors in the USA are a population of nurses that are getting older without adequate replacement, there are fewer than expected faculties dedicated to nursing, there are more career fields opening up particularly for women hence the alternative choices instead of nursing, federal government s failure to fund the nursing education across the country, generally unpleasant working conditions and terms, poor retention of the nurses as well as an overstretched hence overworked nursing staff. According to Paller (2012), the nursing shortage in different countries for example the United States tends not to be the only growing problem, but has also become a complex one. Nursing shortage and nurse s turnover has become the worsening predicament in the health care industry in the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay on Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology Reflexivity and Modern Works of Anthropology The role of reflexivity in Anthropology has changed a great deal over time. The effects of doing ethnography on the ethnographer was not considered an important mode of inquiry in the past. While inevitably, going to far distant lands and living with a culture so different from your own will at least cause the ethnographer to reflect on personal issues but most likely will cause profound changes in the way he or she will view the world. (Malinowski, 11) This basically means that it is the role of the ethnographer to rationalize and put in writing the ways of existence of another culture. What he gains from the experience of living with the trobriand islanders is of no concern the people he was writing for. It is my belief that perhaps the reason that the anthropologists of the past have placed so much importance on structuralizing and bringing into written fruition the laws that the natives live by but are not aware of, is to give others the idea that their research and inquiry are purely scientific and by no means reflexive. The reason that they do this is probably to get backing by institutions in order so they may have their travels paid for and so they may be recognized as a scholar by a scholarly reading audience. As time has gone on more and more Anthropologists have talked about how their ethnographic research has effected their thinking. At first they integrated the reflexive nature of their research in a sort of roundabout way. For instance the notion that different cultures and peoples really don t structure their realities all that differently. Jurisdiction is the authority given by law to a court to try cases and rule on legal matters within a particular geographic area and over certain types of legal cases. Venue on the other hand is the proper or most convenient location for trial of a case, usually the district of county where the crime was committed. Jurisdiction and venue share similarities as well as differences. On top of being incredibly boring, textbooks, especially American history ones, neglect to include the entirety of the information that it should. Then, through the content of the rest of his book, he proves himself to be hypocritical by having laid down an even more boring account of American history. While he makes a respectable attempt by bringing forth potentially interesting flaws in history, it really doesn t compensate for how disorganized the book is. Loewen s first chapter to actually contain content about history deals with Americans misinformed beliefs about apparent American heroes. He focuses primarily on Helen Keller and Woodrow Wilson, both of which have little known facts about them that may impede on their statuses as heroes. While informing his readers that Keller was a radical socialist who supported the USSR and that Wilson led many motiveless invasions of Latin American countries is, in itself, interesting information to know. However, Loewen constantly jumps back and forth between the two heroes and their descriptions, causing him to not only fail at accurately portraying his message, but also send the reader into a boundless pit of confusion which only gets worse as the book progresses. To many, music is more than a melody or a combination of sounds pulsating in ears; it brings out emotions, memories, and shared vibes. Whether a person is an avid listener or casually listens to music, everyone has a few specific albums that laid a foundation for the music they currently enjoy. Recently, I have rediscovered one of these albums, Madvillainy, when putting my old playlist on shuffle. The album consists of Daniel Dumile, the album s MC (rapper) who goes by many aliases, but most commonly as MF Doom, and Otis Jackson Jr., or Madlib. The underground hip hop album was released in 2004 and is now considered a classic by many. The album s 22 tracks consist of skits, instrumentals, and rapping with most tracks around two minutes long. Madvillainy has proven to me to be a masterpiece and a consistently good listen. One of the qualities that set Madvillainy apart from its peers, is the superb production performance given by Madlib. The album s production is magnificent, even to Pitchfork standards, saying, the samples are smart and never played out, and the production and rhymes reveal a determined sense of cooperation, as Doom spouts off his most brilliant lyrical change ups and production conscious playoffs (Pemberton). Like stated in Pitchfork, the production works cohesively with MF Doom s rapping. Edith Wharton develops Lady Bart as a character who is a product of her environment, preyed upon by circumstance and fate. Lily s name, referring to a highly ornamental flower, immediately creates the image of a delicate creature who is grown in the rich soils of society and who, if uprooted from this societal soil, would wither and perish. Christopher Marlowe s play dealt with this controversial topic in 1590 s. The story of Doctor Faustus is just as relevent today as it was hundreds of years ago. This paper will be a study of the pros and cons of the idea of selling your soul to the devil. Doctor Faustus was a well respected scholar; he was bored of and not happy with traditional forms of knowledge like logic, medicine, law, and religion. He wanted to learn magic so two of his friends promised to teach him the secrets of black magic. The first thing he did was summon Mephasthophilis, one of Lucifer s servants. Since Doctor Faustus had great ambitions he told Mephasthophilis to go back to Lucifer so he could strike a deal with the devil to learn everything in the world. For example in the essay by Elizabeth Poole she discusses his original goal that starts all this. His ambition to know and see things that no other human has seen before is considered highly romantic. The way he handles himself after making the deal is the tragedy. Sadly he is presented with several chances to repent but he refuses. Ms. Poole discusses his denial of God and his wish for knowledge and control over nature. In Act 2 Scene 1, pg 16 19 he is confronted by opposing angels good and bad. Faustus says : Contrition, Prayer, repentance what of these? the good angel replies: O, they are means to bring thee unto heaven. the bad angel says: Rather illusions, fruits of lunacy. That make them foolish that do use the most. Faustus chooses not to believe he can save his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Current Status Of Galaxy Formation The field of physics encompasses a variety of topics and sub disciplines which include astronomy, cosmology, and particle physics, to name a few. As a student in the physics field, it is important to understand how physicists actually write and make arguments in their respective disciplines. By being able to analyze and rhetorically inspect an article, the material becomes more comprehensible and some potential implications of the writing begin to resound with the reader. The more we learn about the universe, the more we can predict what is to come and apply that knowledge to everyday life. Physics is a highly technical field with most of its papers including an immense amount of jargon, models, evidence, and observations. An inspection of an article entitled The Current Status of Galaxy Formation, written by Joseph Silk and Gary Mamon and published in Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics (RAA), demonstrates these qualities in abundance and goes beyond them into the realm of how the research involving galaxy formation will change in the future. The exigence or urgency of this article is never explicitly stated, but it can be garnered from a cursory inspection that furthering the research in the field of cosmology (the study of the origin, evolution, and development of the universe), especially as it applies to galaxies, can lead to scientific and public understanding of what the future holds for us. This is important not merely for curiosity s sake, but also for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Istj Application Essay Example ISTJ So what is an ISTJ and who am I? As described above, I am a quiet and reserved individual who uses experience to make analytical decisions, but only after a lot of thought and analyzing! In the workplace, I keep to myself for the most part and do not do a lot of conversing with management that does not pertain to work. Most of my recent professional life has been leadership roles, so having someone working under me has been common for many years. In the workplace, I feel like I get along better with them. I feel that I can interact amongst the employees on the floor and be myself more than what I can with the guys dressed in suits. My positions are usually one of a supervisor or department manager, so I am a liaison between the entry level employees and upper management. Some people seem to get their bonus points by congregating with managers in their offices, but I m more comfortable amongst the hourly workers that get the work completed. Obviously, I can communicate with upper management, but keep it strictly professional with them. I keep work relationships minimal because I have been burned by them before and have learned from it. I hired friends to work as assistant managers under me for a period of time and saw my store begin to decline. I understood then that I could not have close friends in important positions under me because the inability to separate work from social life, and discipline and be taken serious, were too difficult at the time.
