One would think that what inspired me were the talks but actually most of the learning happened while having lunch, standing around the hallways or enjoying a drink at the pub. It was in those moments when I got to chat with people who were facing the same issues I was -- and if I was lucky, I even got the chance to chat with one of the speakers face-to-face...
So how about we miss the talk and go right into the face-to-face chat?"

Does market information, marketing and consumer research have a role in busin...Drthomasbrand Limited
In this presentation, I review the status of information and research within companies, and discuss issues and constraints pertaining to the more effective use of information in business and marketing decision making. These touch upon the way in which research is managed in companies, as well as how it is viewed by the executive. To do it well, requires a mind-set change, even a cultural change in many executive teams and companies. Even the talk of "big data", is meaningless unless the company is receptive to the information and its eco-system is prepared for it.
Where Data and Story Meet - Building the Data Storytelling CapabilityRanda McMinn
Data is rapidly transforming the way companies are transacting and engaging with customers. Gone are the days of not having enough data, now we are being inundated with too much data and are struggling to find ways to make sense of it. As a business leader, especially in the roles of data science and marketing, your success is heavily reliant on making sense of data, so it is becoming imperative to build and nurture a great data storytelling capability.
In this piece, we explore the increasing demands in skillsets for the modern data scientist and marketer. Further, we explore the mindset of data scientists and whether or not that mindset differs from a group of analytics professionals who have been identified as great data storytellers. We also reveal different ways to build the data storytelling capability.
How to think like an entrepreneur involves a ton of stuff...way too much stuff! Welcome to my brain dump of skills and traits and all kinds of magic that make an entrepreneur successful.
One of the secrets to being successful in business, regardless of whether you want to be an intrapreneur or an entrepreneur, is design thinking. We must empathize with our audience, listen to them, gain insights from them, develop our product roadmaps around their feedback & continuing to rinse & repeat.
In addition to design thinking, we must understand the blueprint of our business, and that is capturing the high level points in the form of a business model canvas. It may seem academic, but it is truly helpful to make sure you understand & can describe your business to others in a succinct fashion. Love it or hate it...it's helpful!
Lastly, we must all understand the buyer of our products and services so we know how to paint a picture around who to talk to when it comes to gaining audience insights, capturing the insights & keeping them fresh in our mind when we go to market.
Is this deck messy and jumping around a bit? Maybe, but I swear there's a method to the madness.

How can you thrive when the world is shit, a dumpster fire, and a complete disaster...when you find yourself surrounded by negativity, trolls, and rudeness? I spent this year reading snackable articles from Harvard Business Review and everything I could get my hands on written by Daniel Goleman on Emotional Intelligence. This is a snapshot into what I read and hope you find it helpful, inspiring, empowering, and leads you to thrive when the world is a dumpster fire.
My end of year reading included boosting resilience, reducing stress, adapting to change, becoming a better leader, and developing strategies for each of these important aspects of life, both personal and professional. I read a TON of Harvard Business review articles to school me up. This has been adapted from my HBR readings over the last week on how you can boost your resilience and get it in check. I hope you enjoy it!

Empowering the Data Analytics Ecosystem: A Laser Focus on Value
The data analytics ecosystem thrives when every component functions at its peak, unlocking the true potential of data. Here's a laser focus on key areas for an empowered ecosystem:
1. Democratize Access, Not Data:
Granular Access Controls: Provide users with self-service tools tailored to their specific needs, preventing data overload and misuse.
Data Catalogs: Implement robust data catalogs for easy discovery and understanding of available data sources.
2. Foster Collaboration with Clear Roles:
Data Mesh Architecture: Break down data silos by creating a distributed data ownership model with clear ownership and responsibilities.
Collaborative Workspaces: Utilize interactive platforms where data scientists, analysts, and domain experts can work seamlessly together.
3. Leverage Advanced Analytics Strategically:
AI-powered Automation: Automate repetitive tasks like data cleaning and feature engineering, freeing up data talent for higher-level analysis.
Right-Tool Selection: Strategically choose the most effective advanced analytics techniques (e.g., AI, ML) based on specific business problems.
4. Prioritize Data Quality with Automation:
Automated Data Validation: Implement automated data quality checks to identify and rectify errors at the source, minimizing downstream issues.
Data Lineage Tracking: Track the flow of data throughout the ecosystem, ensuring transparency and facilitating root cause analysis for errors.
5. Cultivate a Data-Driven Mindset:
Metrics-Driven Performance Management: Align KPIs and performance metrics with data-driven insights to ensure actionable decision making.
Data Storytelling Workshops: Equip stakeholders with the skills to translate complex data findings into compelling narratives that drive action.
Benefits of a Precise Ecosystem:
Sharpened Focus: Precise access and clear roles ensure everyone works with the most relevant data, maximizing efficiency.
Actionable Insights: Strategic analytics and automated quality checks lead to more reliable and actionable data insights.
Continuous Improvement: Data-driven performance management fosters a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
Sustainable Growth: Empowered by data, organizations can make informed decisions to drive sustainable growth and innovation.
By focusing on these precise actions, organizations can create an empowered data analytics ecosystem that delivers real value by driving data-driven decisions and maximizing the return on their data investment.
Techniques to optimize the pagerank algorithm usually fall in two categories. One is to try reducing the work per iteration, and the other is to try reducing the number of iterations. These goals are often at odds with one another. Skipping computation on vertices which have already converged has the potential to save iteration time. Skipping in-identical vertices, with the same in-links, helps reduce duplicate computations and thus could help reduce iteration time. Road networks often have chains which can be short-circuited before pagerank computation to improve performance. Final ranks of chain nodes can be easily calculated. This could reduce both the iteration time, and the number of iterations. If a graph has no dangling nodes, pagerank of each strongly connected component can be computed in topological order. This could help reduce the iteration time, no. of iterations, and also enable multi-iteration concurrency in pagerank computation. The combination of all of the above methods is the STICD algorithm. [sticd] For dynamic graphs, unchanged components whose ranks are unaffected can be skipped altogether.
