Muhammed Ali Research Paper
The term legend is overused, often directed at individuals who are undeserving of
the title. Such is not the case for legendary boxer and humanitarian Muhammed Ali.
After a long battle with Parkinson s disease, Ali finally succumbed to complications
this past week while being treated for respiratory issues in a Phoenix hospital. He
was 74 years old.
Ali s boxing career was marked by both brilliance and controversy. As a brash
young pugilist, he made his mark on the boxing world in the late 1960s through the
1970s with a record of 55 5. During this time, he claimed the World Heavyweight
title three times (a record) and fought some of the sport s greatest fighters. Among his
most dangerous opponents were Hall of Fame fighters like Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier,
George Foreman and Floyd Patterson. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While his trash talking brought with it a lot of entertainment value, it also offended
people in the sport who took exception to some of his comments.
To non boxing fans, he will always be remembered as the conscientious objector
who refused to enlist for military service in Vietnam due to his Islamic beliefs. His
decision riled the nation, resulting in a 3 year suspension from boxing. After
resuming his boxing career, he would continue his siege on the Heavyweight title.
Outside of the ring, Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay) garnered a reputation as a
true humanitarian. Even during the 20 something years he was battling Parkinson s,
he traveled the world and spoke out about poverty, racial inequality and the quest for
peace throughout the world. It is in his role as an ambassador to the world that he
will be missed by family, friends and the legion of fans he acquired throughout his

Evolution Of Technology In Australia
It can t be denied that the technological age has had a profound influence on
essentially every industry and profession of the world, and while these developments
have exponentially beneficial to industries such as modern medicine, fields such as
the legal system are struggling to adequately adapt and continue adapting to the
constantly advancing technological world. Consequently, Australian legal
practitioners new and old are facing the question of whether the evolution of
technology has become so far advanced that the current legislations regarding law,
technology and how it is used have become inappropriate and inequitable. (Horten,

In Queensland, over the past three years (as at 2011) more than 450 child
pornography charges have been laid against youths between the ages of 10 and 17,
including 113 charges of making child exploitation material . In January, two West
Australian boys one 15 and the other 16 were reportedly placed on the state s sex
offender registry after they were caught engaging in group sex with a girl, 14. A
third boy was also listed as a sex offender after using his mobile phone to film the
incident, with the intention of online distribution. (Tin,2011) It should be further
noted that the age of consent of social accounts such as Facebook and Instagram do
not conform with the Australian consensual age of 16, which are put in place to
protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse. (Child Family Community

The exploitation of children has been inadvertently enhanced by the availability of

The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.
Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education. Martin Luther King, Jr.
When researching for this exploratory essay I stumbled upon this quote, and it really
made me think about what the true purpose of higher education is and ever will be.
That is to allow you to go deeper into a subject of interest at a school of excellence.
Some common aspects to consider are the Social aspect, the Financial aspect, and the
Academic aspect. All of these are important in deciding on the school that one would
fancy attending. I believe that one should shoot for the moon but perhaps miss and
still land amongst the stars. By using that reasoning I have decided to use, the
University of Cambridge, England as my College for the assigned task. Using this
highly prestigious institution, I will discuss in detail the 3 main factors in deciding
on a school of higher education and those are, the Social, Financial, and Academic
Aspects respectively.

Aaron Hines Research Paper
Aaron Hines, a freshman at Fairmont State University, says that one of his fondest
memories of childhood is when his grandfather decided that the family should
purchase cows to add to the family farm. Aaron, his grandfather, and other
members of family spent an entire summer building two fences to keep the cows
in the yard. Many mistakes, along with memories, were made during the process
but by the end of the summer, the fence was successfully constructed. Hines, an 18
year old student who loves theater, considers himself to be, of many things, family
oriented, hardworking, and kind. He, unlike most, grew up on a farm where he
continues to live rather than stay on campus. Although Aaron s major is undecided
as of yet, he hopes that his hard work this year may steer him in a more specific
direction. Aaron graduated from Fairmont Senior High School which is located in
the city of Fairmont. It is a small school with just under 800 students. If you tried,

The Death of Socrates
The Death of Socrates
The Death of Socrates was painted by a French painter . His name was Jacques
Louis David. The painting represents the scene of the death of Greek philosopher
Socrates. He was condemned to die by drinking hemlock for the expression of his
ideas against those of Athens and corrupting the minds of the youth. The painting
also depicts both Plato and Crito, with the former sitting at the edge of the bed and
the latter clutching the knee of Socrates. Socrates had the choice to go into exile and
, hence, give up his philosophic vocation or be sentenced to death by drinking
hemlock. Socrates chose death. In this painting, someone hands a confident Socrates

for office unlimited times. Although, I suspect the Greek authorities at that time too.
They may have made Socrates do that to save their own reputation. Having said that,
words are , sometimes, powerless against conservatives. People were very
conservative those times meaning they could not , psychologically, accept new
ideas. It is likely that they felt like they are betraying their ancestors. So Socrates not
being able to convince his ideas may have let him to a suicide too. There are a lot
questions about Socrates and this painting certainly makes you think what Socrates
would want you to think about it. That explains why this painting is controversial to

Massachusetts Colony Compare And Contrast Essay
How were the colonies and the colonists that lived in Maryland and Massachusetts
similar and different? The similarities and differences between the Maryland and
Massachusetts colony are clear.
The Maryland and Massachusetts colonies had many traits in common. Both
colonies had similar geography. They were both located next to the coast and had
great land for farming. Maryland was known for it s low fertile land for agriculture
and it s thriving ports and shipping business. Similarly, the colonists of Massachusetts
used the rich soil provided to them to raise food and they worked in the shipping
industry also. at ports. Also, both the two colonies had cold winters and warm and

Narrative Essay On Irish Dance
Day 6: I was served a traditional Irish breakfast this morning, and aside from the
puddings (which weren t too bad), it was similar to a traditional breakfast I get at
home. After breakfast, we boarded the bus and headed for Glenveagh Castle. The
castle itself was beautiful, from the elaborate interiors, to the stunning gardens and
trails, and the gorgeous scenery. The castle even has a curse attached to it, showing
how Irish culture is fond of myths and superstitions. After we left the castle, we went
back to the community center for lessons in Irish culture and dance. Although it is
not the most common spoken language in Ireland, Gaelic, is the national language of
Ireland. Having their own national language would promote nationalism within
the country, giving the people something of their own that wasn t established when
Brittan took over. I was as good at learning Gaelic as I was with Spanish, terrible,
after the session all I could remember was how to ask for a pint and how to ask for
food. Out of the two sessions, I was far better at the Irish dancing. The session
itself was one of the most fun things I did in Ireland, learning the various dances
and the meaning behind them. Irish dancing, like Gaelic, is very important to the
Irish people, even our language instructor know some of the Irish dances. That was
not the only place that I saw Irish dancing, it was common at pubs when bands were
playing and even people in the crowds joined in. The Irish dancing itself is
Network Based Intrusion Detection Systems ( Idss )
Abstract: Providing security in a distributed system is important as cloud computing
provides variety of convenient services. IDS implementation in cloud requires an
efficient, scalable and a constructive approach. Many Network based intrusion
detection systems(NIDS) are used for the reception of packets from the cloud, but
those systems possess lower detection rate, high false positive rate and they fail to
resist single point attack. I would like to propose one method which I encountered
and found out to be efficient compared to other methods. This unique model has
multiple intrusion detection systems (IDSs) that are deployed in each layer of the
cloud infrastructure for protecting each Virtual Machine against threats. Another
catching feature is that of cloud alliance concept which exchanges mutual alerts to
resist the single point attack of failure. Introduction Cloud ComputingThe term cloud
is analogical to Internet. Similarly cloud computing is a model for delivering
information technology services in which resources are retrieved from the internet
through web based tools and applications, rather than a direct connection to a
server.(Corey 2008) Figure 1: Overview of Cloud Computing, Source: Sam Johnston,

A Case Study In Corporate Fraud
Back in the 1990 s, HealthSouth became one of the largest healthcare service
providers nationwide, with the earnings over the billions through several years. Due
to the large investments made, it brought on the temptation of cooking the books to
move money around to places it should not be. Management then began to put a plan

that HealthSouth was overstated investments by almost 5 billion, which made the

Great Expectations And Oliver Twist Analysis
People tend naively see orphans and those without caring families as hopeless and
loveless creatures. However, the goodness of strangers can easily prove these
thoughts nonsensical as people can provide an abundance of support and love to
those with no blood relation to them and can embrace strangers as family. In Charles
Dickenstwo novels Great Expectationsand Oliver Twist, Dickens challenges the
typical idea of parentage and suggests the through love and generosity anyone can
become a guardian or mentor figure. Therefore, people should not place as much
faith in blood relations and look to others for sources of guidance and compassion.
Although bloodlines seemed to dictate who raised whom in the 1830s, children
could find guidance through those closest to them regardless of their non familial
relationship. In Oliver Twist, Dickens provides numerous figures to guide poor
Oliver, none of which are related to him by blood, excepting Rose. After falling ill
and denounced as a thief, Mr. Brownlow and the housekeeper bestow great
kindness and tender care upon Oliver and nurture him as though he was their child:
I have never forgotten them or his quiet smile, but have seen them every day, side
by side with those of my own children (388). The housekeeper especially gives
motherly attention to Oliver although she has no prior relation to him. She compares
Oliver to her memories of her own progeny and therefore blatantly stands in as a
mother figure in Oliver s life. By

A Strong Central Government Government of any kind is set up to make a country
run smother and with less problems. The United States government should have less
ability to override state policy without proof of why it should be overridden. It
should be something that each state has the ability to defend against and with a
panel. Federal policy is about an overall problem but not the problem at the state
level since each state would face cases of different types of problems.

Amending the Constitution. If the constitution was amended Washington DC should
not be given any more power over the states. The states should have more power
over many things that are state specific. If Washington is given, more power than it
would be less state specific and more generalized which this country does not need at
this time. The country needs leaders who are aware of the problems at every level
and not lumping them into one huge issue that general public cannot understand.
Washington sees the big picture State sees several pictures that form a problem. If it
is looked at from the state point of view then each state can see the problem on their
level, choose a solution, and solve the problem before the crisis stage. If Washington
still has the issue then they can model their solution after state solutions or combine
to make a better solution. The only thing in my opinion that needs more federal
power is the education system and levels of the United States. The United States is
getting further and further behind other countries in education and an internal
problem. Those who run the systems earn more than those who are teaching the
youth of today and the leaders of tomorrow. If states cannot afford to pay teachers
then the federal government needs to step in and mandate class size, curriculum, and
basic fundamentals so that we as a country
Argumentative Essay On Companion Animals
Companion animals have not always been considered beneficial to the human
existence. In pasted centuries companion animals were consider objects with little
value. For example, Martha C. Armstrong stated that, pound dogs stood little chance
of escaping their destiny: death by starvation, injury, gassing, or drowning. This
illustrated how animals that were captured did not have any rights and could be
disposed of in any way. These animalcompanions were considered replaceable unless
they were used as livestock and only if they would create a source of income for the
animal guardian. The documentary illustrated how instead of euthanizing the animals
the animal shelter began incorporating other means of helping the animal companion
become more adoptable. It illustrated how placing the... Show more content on

In addition, being able to watch how a shy and non cooperative animal can develop
the capability to learn and follow complex directions in six weeks demonstrated that
with proper training any animal can become the perfect animal companion.
Therefore, I believe that all the animals that are turned in to the animal shelters are
there because their guardian lack the resources or are unwilling to take the time to
properly train them. As Rollin and Rollin stated, most pet owners know very little
about their animals...people wishing to acquire an animal should at least be
compelled to demonstrate that they know what they are getting into (508). I believe
that everyone who adopts an animal companion should have some training regarding
what the companion animal requires. The training should consist of how to teach
them basic manners such as not jumping on people or chewing on items. Having this
basic knowledge would help all those animals who are turned in because according to
many of their guardians these animal companions are to

As Lord Normand stated in Teper : The rule against the admission of hearsayis
fundamental... The truthfulness and accuracy of the witness whose words are spoken
by another person cannot be tested by cross examination, and the light which his
demeanour would throw upon his testimony is lost.
10.This rule is not inflexible. As Heffernan explained: Notwithstanding its merit in
excluding unreliable evidence and enhancing adjudication, the rule against hearsay
suffers from the disadvantage that it is overly broad in its application. Because the

A fuel hedge contract allows a large fuel consuming company to establish a fixed
or capped cost, via a commodity swap or option. These companies enter into
hedging contracts to mitigate their exposure to future fuel prices that may be
higher than current prices and/or to establish a known fuel cost for budgeting
purposes. If a large fuel consuming company buys a fuel swap and the price of fuel
declines, the company will effectively be forced to pay an above market rate for
fuel. If a large fuel consuming company buys a fuel call option and the price of fuel
increases, the company will receive a return on the option that offsets their actual
cost of fuel. If a large fuel consuming company buys a fuel call option, which
requires an upfront premium cost, much like insurance, and the price of fuel
decreases, the company will not receive a return on the option but they will benefit
from buying fuel at the then lower price.
2. The Hedging Process 2.1. The Fuel Hedging Decision
Fuel hedging is a contractual tool that some fuel consuming companies, such as
airlines, use in order to try to stabilize the price they pay for the jet fuel they will
need in the future.
If the airlines can predicts that the cost of fuel is going to increase in the future, the
airline can sign a fuel hedging contract to purchase (3 months, 6 months, and up to
1 year) of fuel hedges for that period for a specific price and ahead of time. If the

Baths Of Diocletian Essay
Throughout the Roman Empire bathing was an important part of life. Public
bathhouses offered the citizens an area to cleanse themselves, relax, enjoy art pieces,
socialize, and conduct business. The grandest and most lavish of these bathhouses
were the Baths of Diocletian, which spanned over 130,000 square meters on the
Viminal Hill . Diocletian s bathhouse was a great form of public benefaction to the
citizens of Rome, while displaying the emperor s eminence and power over the
Empire.
Plagued by disease, chaos, and invasions, the third century AD was a time of disarray
for the Roman Empire. This period of uncertainty, known as the Military Anarchy,
came to end in 284 AD with the seizure of power by the military commander
Diocletian . Under Diocletian a new structure of governing was established known as
a tetrarchy, or rule by four. Under this system there were two emperors who held the

The Baths of Diocletian were the last large scale pagan building erected in Rome,
which served a thickly populated zone and could accommodate up to 3,000

Caracalla were too far for those residing in the Viminal Hill area. Constructing the
Baths was by no means an easy feat. Famous for his persecution of Christians,
Emperor Diocletian is said to have forced some 10,000 40,000 Christians into the
laborious task of building the complex . The exterior of the structure was made of

The Role Of Melting Pot In America
In America there are a multitude of people that live, and are even more people
migrating by the years. Back in the earlier years of American society, the country
probably would have been considered a melting pot by most people, as the years
gone by the technology, the people, and the country as a whole has evolved
becoming more diverse, making it more of a tossed salad. A few of the many things
that have been diversified in this country are the amount of races living here, the
different religions, and also the plethora of type s food. First, with the amounts of
races that the United Stateshas, many people would likely refer it as a melting pot.
While regarding the amount of races that are making a living and or moving to the
United States; I could be here all day trying to list them all. But a few of the races
are; Caucasian, African American, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Canadian, and
many more that migrate from all corners of the world. Now with all of these races
together in working toward a common goal, people would think that as a melting
pot. I believe if looking closer people play many different roles making it more like a
tossed salad.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

country most worship or adhere too. The United States, on the other hand, allows
people to adopt any religion that you would like to practice. Many people practice

more. Continuing then many of the religions have many different denominations;

Indigenous Lifeways
Indigenous lifeways (especially those that have not been greatly influenced by
western society) offer important insight into the most basic human need to feel
connected to something greater. By investigating these lifeways we are better able to
understand human spirituality as a whole, and perhaps gain greater insight into our
own personal interpretations of reality. While it is difficult to make generalizations
on such a broad range of cultures as are described by the term indigenous, British
anthropologist Bronislaw Malinowski argued that people everywhere share certain
biological and psychological needs and that the ultimate function... Show more

These shared values are integrated into indigenous peoples everyday life in such a
way that everyday activities are, essentially, prayer. These prayerful acts or rituals
are seen as necessary to maintain the balance between this world and the spirit
world . Daily prayer rituals when practiced with specific objects, are believed to
imbue energy into the object. Traditional healers and shamans may use these ritual
objects as a totem of the connection to the ancestors or spirit worlds. This is not
unlike the reverence that many Americans have for their grandmothers recipe books
or cast iron pan. Many years of preparing loving meals for family and friends
condition the pan, imbuing it with love. Traditional healers or shamans , acting as
community leaders, help to initiate and restore unity and balance within the
individual, the spirit, as well as the
Dc Sniper Attack Research Paper
The D.C. Sniper Attacks were a group of attacks that took place between October 2
to October 24, 2002. The Perpetrators were John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd
Malvo. Ten people were shot and killed at the Beltway Attacks and three people
were killed before that. Three people were also injured by the bullet, but were not
killed. They asked for $10 Million Dollars to stop the attacks so that they could start
a Utopian country in Canada for black children.

Alabama Ghost Stories
Many people have been inside haunted houses or lived in a haunted house. Some
people do not realize actually if there house is haunted or not. People who actually
know about a haunted house , they want to visit and video what paranormal activities
happen at the haunted house. In Alabama, three places have been visited and
recorded of the ghostinthe haunted facility. The word facility is being used because
not all ghost exist in houses, they can be in backyard, bridge, anywhere. The big
houses you pass by on the highway that you think are pretty, they might not always

is my religion and that religion is christianity. When I was one month old my

There was two methods to measure the density of materials. First method was to
calculate the volume of the specimens in mathematical way. First dividing the
specimen into three parts as shown in Figure 1.

However, the natures between the two are quite different. Covalent bonds are formed
by nonmetal and nonmetal. Electrons in the covalent bond are shared and no atom
wants to leave the other adjacent atom because they all want to be stable. Thus, the
covalent bond between atoms is very strong. However, there is van der Waals bond
between two molecules. Van der Waals bond is the basis of chemical bondingand is
weaker than all the primary bonds. Van der Waals bond has weaken a material such
as polymers because the attraction force between molecules is not strong. However,
for metallic bonding, metal ions are bonded with metal ions. The bonding connection
between the two is always to be metallic bond. Hence, when comparing materials
containing covalent and metallic bonds generally, it is easier to find out that
materials which are made of metal are relatively stronger than materials made of
polymers. Furthermore, due to the directionality of covalent bond, it restricts
electrons to travel freely, so molecules of covalent bond are not able to conduct
electricity like metallic bond which has a travelled electric current.
The major differences of these two chemical bonds are shown obviously in the lab.
Metals has larger density values, higher hardness than polymers and able to conduct
electricity while polymers is not able to. To understand the distinction in atomic
bonding, one can utilize the knowledge in his
Intra-Organizational Collaboration Essay
Intra organizational Collaboration
Organizations need to recognize the necessity to flatten hierarchical structures. In
creating a horizontal structure leaders naturally acquire a greater ability to adapt.
Leaders need to have an intensive focus on people. Recognizing the need to tie both
compensation and advancement potential with individual s ability to function in a T
shaped management style. Organizations need to be willing to change the way they
hire in order to promote intra organizational collaboration. Horizontal organizations
require the establishment of high performance teams that have legitimate decision

Without trust you cannot lead. Without trust you cannot get extraordinary things
done. (Kouzes Posner, 2007, pg. 224) Building a team is necessary because it allows
leaders to essentially flatten their organizational structures. In doing so leaders all but
eliminate delays in responding to customers needs. Organizations also increase the
intellectual diversity of their organizations by including constituents in the decision
making process. The key design principle here is to maximize the surface area of the
organization by connecting as many employees as possible with the external
environment. (Lawler Worley, 2009, pg. 197)
Collaboration requires Collaborative People.
Collaborative organizations foster environments were collaboration and innovation

affect the course of history but they do need to find innovative ways to foster an
environment that can easy question the status quo. (Kouzes Posner, 2007, pg. 183)
Leadership needs to retool recognition and incentive programs to reward innovation

a truly collaborative environment seek innovation and collaboration at all levels. This

Brief Summary Of The Stefanie Coleman Case
Stefanie Coleman (Coleman) provided the following information:
On March 28, 2017, Agent Kelly Birch met with Coleman. The interview was audio
recorded. This report is a summary of the interview and not a transcription.
Coleman provided that she worked at the Fort Gibson Nursing Home for
approximately two years off and on.
Coleman provided that she does not work in the kitchen or dining room area. She has
witnessed residents spill drinks on themselves but not coffee. Coleman then said if
someone split something hot on them an aid would pull them out and tell a nurse to
check them and see if they are burnt. When I asked Coleman if she ever witnessed
that, she stated, are we talking about the resident that got burnt by the coffee?

Determining Genetic Disorders with Blood Tests
Genetic testing is when tests are done on the blood and other tissue to find genetic
disorders in an individual. It is used as a healthcare tool to detect gene variants
associated to a certain disease or disorder, and is used non clinically for paternity
testing and forensics. There are many different methods of testing, usually done with
a blood sample. Other methods include diagnostic testing, carrier testing, prenatal
testing, pre implantation genetic testing, newborn screening, pharmacogentic testing,
and a few others. DNAhas about 12 million single nucleotide polymorphisms and
thousands of copy number variants, most of which are not harmful. Sometimes these
mutations in genes can cause genetic disorders that end up altering or inhibiting
protein function. GeneTherapy focuses on correcting the mutated genes usually by
inserting a normal gene into the genome. Researchers treat these diseases this way
by repairing dysfunctional gene or by providing copies of the missing gene. They
isolate the normal DNA and package it into a vector. Other ways include replacing
the abnormal gene with a normal one, repair the mutated gene, or altering the
regulation of a certain gene. As of right now, reparative results have been marginal,
there is potential of gene therapy treating single gene disorders.
When used in healthcare, genetic testing can show the genetic cause of a disease,
confirm a suspected diagnosis of an illness, predict future illnesses, and predict
responses to
First Person Singular Narrative
Throughout the novella, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Gabriel Garcia Marquez
chooses to narrate the book from an unclear point of view. Certain sections of the
book seem to be written in a first person singular point of view, while others seem to

The use of the word I in this quote relates a first person singular narrativebecause it

Raymond s Run By Toni Cade Bambara
In Toni Cade Bambara s short story Raymond s Run, the author uses the
characterization of Squeaky to develop a theme on achieving happiness through
respect for others. By using the characterization of Squeaky, Bambara is able to
display the achievement of happiness through respect for someone. Toni Cade
Bambara uses the thoughts, words, and actions of a girl named Squeaky to
develop a theme on achieving happiness by respecting others. Squeaky s words and
actions towards each person displays the respect she has or doesn t have towards
that person. One person Squeaky doesn t have respect and happiness towards is
her mentally disabled little brother Raymond. Squeaky the younger of the two has
to care for her little brother Raymond due to his mental disability. Raymond s
disability holds back the respect that Squeaky has for Raymond because she has to
care for him and cannot live a normal life as a teen. All I have to do in life is mind
my brother Raymond, which is enough for me (Bambara 293). By Squeky s tone,
Bambara is able to display the unhappiness of taking care of her older brother

How Television Programs Can Support And Facilitate
Word...
Introduction
For many years, parents have relied on using educational programs to teach and
engage their children with new concepts and materials. Conversely, many children
have also used television as an opportunity for learning and language development.
For example, the rise of television programs like Elmo Street and Teletubbies
demonstrates this upward trend of substituting media sources for teaching and
learning. However, despite the increasing support from parents toward television
programs, many researchers have mixed reviews on putting our children into
viewing long hours of what they considered unnecessary learning. Thus in what
follows of this paper, I will focus on explaining how television programs can
support and facilitate word development. Moreover, I will also discuss the mixed
literacy support for using television as a learning tool and finally, I will conduct a
study that measures, specifically, the relationship between watching educational TV
and learning novel words. Hopefully, with these measures, I will be able to find
supporting evidence that proves educational TV can be a good predictor for word
learning.
Throughout the years, one continuous point of debate has been whether educational
TV can facilitate and improve word learning in children. Many studies on this debate
have found distinct and mixed research outcomes. For example, one study has been
Mabel s Rice Word from Sesame Street, in which he found mixed supporting evidence
that television
Gas Exchange, The Diffusion Of Gases Across A Semi...
Gas exchange is the diffusion of gases across a semi permeable membrane. Gas
exchange is the process by which oxygen, O2, is taken into the bloodstream while
carbon dioxide, CO2, is released. All organisms carry out gas exchange as they must
exchange gases with the environment in order to respire. Cellular respiration occurs
as cells use the energy to survive. Oxygenis needed by cells to take out ATP from
organic molecules, while simultaneously carbon dioxideis produced and must be
disposed. In order for efficient gas exchange to occur, gas exchange membranes must
have a large surface area to volume ratio, be thin, permeable to gases, moist, maintain
a concentration gradient, and have a short diffusiondistance. Insects, fish and
mammals are three species that carry out gas exchange as they require oxygen to live.
INSECTS
An insect is any small invertebrate animal e.g. grasshopper, locust, caterpillar etc.
that have three segments known as a head, thorax and abdomen. Insects have an
open circulatory system, and a fluid known as haemolymph that flows through their
bodies. Respiration the energy release process carried out in the mitochondria
occurs in the cells and gas exchange in insects occurs in the tracheal system. The
tracheal system opens to the exoskeleton of the insect through small pores known as
spiracles. Spiracles are often arranged on either side of the body segments. These
pores are often found with fine hairs which filter the air as it enters the tracheal
Difference Between Internal And External Crowdsourcing
According to several scholars (including Villarroel and Reis, 2010; Boudreau and
Lakhani, 2013; Carlson and Wilmot, 2006; Chesbrough, 2006a, 2006b; Byren, 2013;
Yap, 2012; Howe, 2006, 2009; Brabham, 2008b, 2009, 2013), the main difference
between internal and external crowdsourcing can be summarized as follows: i) the
internal crowd(employees) is known to the firm; ii) the crowd can be all employees
of the firm, a subsidiary of the firm, or may also include partners and suppliers; iii)
the crowd is specifically used for problem solving or aggregating ideas for innovation
purposes; and iv) the crowd may also be anyone with internet or mobile remote
access capable of participating in a crowdsourcingcontest and vote on the ideas of
others.
Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media
acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t
measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing
forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short
to the external crowd s full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013) believes
employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal
crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be
captured. Carlson and Wilmot (2006) emphasizes that every employee does in fact
has the ability to innovate, and must do so for their company to stay competitive.

The Downfall of Lady Macbeth
In Shakespeare s Macbeth, Lady Macbeth s desire and ambition leads to her
eventual downfall. When Lady Macbeth hears of Macbeth s prophecy she dreams
of the glory and high standing that awaits being queen. She cannot withhold her
ambitions and she is willing to manipulate fate to bring about Macbeth s prophecy.
She invokes evil spirits to be filled from head to toe with cruelty to do the evil
actions necessary to make Macbeth king and to remove all remorse and pity for
her action from her heart. She is initially able to be involved in the treacherous
deeds that are needed to bring about the prophecy quickly, but as the play

However, Lady Macbeth s conscious shines through as she is not able to kill a
poor vulnerable man who looks like her father. She is thrown off guard be her
reaction to Duncan s face. She does not expect to feel any remorse toward the old
man but she does. After Macbeth kills Duncan, Lady Macbeth regains her cruel
nature and quickly takes the dagger from him to frame the guards, Give me the
daggers. The sleeping and the dead/ Are but as pictures. Tis the eye of childhood
/ That fears a painted devil. If he do bleed, / I ll gild the faces of the grooms withal,

for the dead. Lady Macbeth cannot let her remorse control her because she knows
that the only way to bring about the prophecy is to frame the guards. Lady
Macbeth unsuccessfully attempts to block out the horrendous deeds she commits.
The compassion Lady Macbeth shows for Duncan proves that the spirits did not
remove her soul or kill her conscious, which will be her Achilles heel and lead to

How Sport Has Changed My Life
Introduction: FГ№tbol or soccer, it doesn t matter the way you say it, although
what it has done for us as humans is very significant. For me soccer is everything I
play it, watch it, and talk about it, the sport has led my life since I first gained
interest towards it in grade four. There must be a reason why it the most watched
sport in the world, it brings everyone in the world together no matter what race,
nationality, or gender. Ever since grade six I have been trying to encourage soccer
into my projects for school, I haven t had a chance of properly incorporating my
true passion. This is until now, the first time I ever heard of the personal project
was the first time I came to Carson Graham. Our school in grade seven brought us
to this massive school in which we had no clue about why we were actually there.
The first presentation I saw was someone who built a robot that could follow lights
for direction. The thought that I had to do this project in grade ten scared me, I
had no clue what I really wanted to do. This was until I started thinking about it
more and one thought came into my mind, that was to create Goal Line
Technology. This form of technology was quite new at the time, this was because
they just announced that they were going to start using it in one of the top five
leagues in Europe, the first league to incorporate it was the Barclay s Premier
League. My project goal was to create a fully working demo of Goal Line
Technology. At first I was scared that I
Student Readiness And Academic Achievement
Degree of School Readiness in Kindergarten Students from Families with a Stay at
Home Mom vs. Families with a Working Mom
Rebecca L. Mullins
University of Texas at Tyler
July 2016
While all forms of parental involvement in a child s education are recognized for their
individual importance and merit, for the purposes of this study, we are particularly
interested in parental involvement as it relates to academic achievement and school
readiness of first time Kindergarten students. We acknowledge that despite empirical
evidence substantiating parental involvement as the primary predictor of school
readiness and academic achievement, other variables come into play such as socio
economic status, family structure (i.e. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Can mothers truly have the best of both worlds? And can we assume that if parental
involvement is the key factor in a child being school ready, can we also assume that
a working mom just won t offer her children the same number of quality early
experiences as that of a stay at home mom? These are just a few of the questions
surrounding this topic, and we attempt to answer some of them in this study.
However, we must first explore the research that speaks to the imperative role of
parental involvement and its direct relationship to academic achievement and school
readiness in children, namely children entering Kindergarten for the first time.
A considerable body of literature exists to support the theory that parental
involvement in children s education during pre Kindergarten years has a direct,
positive impact on childhood development and academic achievement. (El Nokali,
Bachman, Votruba Drzal, 2010; Fan Chen, 2001; Hill Chao, 2009; Seginer, 2006).
Parental involvement in a child s early education can take many shapes and forms
including one or all of the following: parental attitudes toward education, parental
behaviors to prepare children for school experiences, educational expectations of
parents, etc. (Seginer, 2006). In the industries of pediatrics and education, we often
hear the child s brain referred to as a sponge . This is because 90% of a child s brain
is developed before the age of
The Emerging Of Ageing And Dementia Research
In early May, the Emerging Researchers in Ageing (ERA) group in partnership with
Ageing Well in Wales and The Campaign to End Loneliness, held a one day event
in Cardiff. The aim of the event, which was funded by the Centre for Ageing and
Dementia Research (CADR: Swansea University) and Welsh Institute of Social and
Economic Research, Data Analysis (Wiserd: Cardiff University), was to provide
learning and engagement opportunities for emerging academic researchers, across
disciplines, working on issues of loneliness and isolation in later life.
The event attracted over 50 delegates, bringing together emerging academic
researchers with community project teams, service providers, practitioners and older
people themselves in order to discuss research needs for combatting loneliness and
isolation. The event enabled early career researchers in ageing to communicate their
research beyond traditional academic audiences, fostering dialogue between the
academic community and local communities in Wales
On a very sunny morning in May, delegates gathered at the beautiful Glamorgan

working on a diverse range of issues related to loneliness. These included
presentations on the impact of driving cessation on loneliness (Amy Murray, Swansea
University), Inclusion and Exclusion over the lifecourse of older people in rural areas
in Wales (Bethan Winter Swansea University), the relationships between social

Religion in Todays Society
Religion has affected the human in many ways; rules, traditions, culture patterns,
morality, etc. The most powerful and important role that religion plays is that how it
controls the human. I believe that religion has created conflicts between people
including whole countries. Religion has the societal effect of dividing people into us
and them . This unfortunately has the same characteristics as any other form of
discrimination, such a as racialism. Then, it would come very easy to consider us as
the righteous and them as unrighteous. Religioncan also be used as a tool of
suppression. It s easy to maintain order and nullify dissent by citing religious

Catholics, by basis of religion alone, were not allowed to vote, could not worship in

In the Virginia colony where Anglicanism ruled all citizens were required to attend

who was not of their faith unless they were attempting to convert people of differing

With the above history, it is quite easy to see where there would be a need for
separation of church and state. While the early colonists were in part coming here to
create a better life for themselves they unfortunately brought with them the ideals of
oppression and enacted them in their local townships. Religious oppression has eased
up in today s modern American culture when compared with that of the early
Americans, part of which can be seen through modern diversity educational practices
as in Teaching Religion in Schools: Religious Rites and Ritual from Across the Globe.
At the onset of the eighteenth century more immigrants came in and so did differing
religious views. The New World grew to contain Quakers, Puritans, Jews, Catholics,
Anglicans, Protestants, Methodists, Episcopalians, Lutherans, Presbyterians, Baptists,

Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat Essay example
Never Cry Wolf by Farley Mowat
For my book report, I have chosen the novel Never Cry Wolf by Farley
Mowat. In this report I will give a brief summary of the novel as well as why I have
chosen it for my report. Finally, I will give my reactions to the novel with regards to
its analysis of the place of human beings in nature, whether the destiny of humans and
nature is intertwined, and how nature is regarded by the different religious and
political philosophies demonstrated in the novel.
Never Cry Wolf is based upon the true story of the author s experiences during two
years spent as a biologist studying a family of wolves in northern
Canada during the mid nineteen fifties. When Mowat is sent on his expedition

This meant that I could more easily identify the setting and thus relate better to the
author s feelings and perceptions. Meanwhile, Siddhartha was set in India and in
my mind was dated and unreal humankind (society) seems today to have more of a
desire and a need to get back to nature and the simple life. The spirit of peace that
emanates from Mowat s book allows one to focus on what is possible when one
has time to reflect In this I mean that Never Cry Wolf seemed to hold a more
meaningful message for modern times. As well I found the style of writing in the
Mowat novel to be clearer then in Siddhartha. These were some of the factors that
combined to produce a situation where Never Cry Wolf captured my attention more
than Siddhartha. It was for these reasons that I chose the novel by Farley Mowat.
In my opinion, Never Cry Wolf placed humans in the role of intruders as far as nature
is concerned. Mowat cites several instances where humans violate nature and
represent a threat to its sanctity. Even though this threat is not reciprocated by nature,
humans continue to infringe upon nature and then deny the consequences of their
actions. Two prevalent examples of this occur: when
Mowat accidentally wanders into the wolves den when the wolves are there, and
again when he discovers a herd of deer that have been slaughtered by hunters.

Millerite Movement in the Second Great Awakening of...
The Millerite Movement happened in the context of this nation s Second Great
Awakening: a religious revival that carried the country into reform movements. The
Second Great Awakening had its start in Connecticut in the 1790s and grew to its
height in the 1830s to 1840s.[1] During this time in the United States history,
churches experienced a more complete freedom from governmental control which
opened the doors of opportunity to a great spiritual awakening in the American
people.[2] This awakening focused on areas of both religious and social issues of
that era which were important to the religious movements and the nation as a whole.
The Second Great Awakening was driven by these issues which included an increase

The Millerite Movement is best known for its prediction of Christ s coming to be
1843 and later revised to October 22, 1844. The very core of this movement was the
anticipation for the soon coming of Christ. They were not the only group to look
forward to this event but it became of paramount interest to the Millerites, as they
had a set date for Christ s second return.[8] As the Second Great Awakening grew
more mindful of Christ s second coming, so did the Millerite Movement. The story of
William Miller is one which climaxes in his desire to share about Christ s immediate
return and the Great Disappointment. The result is the Adventist church we have
today. The Seventh day Adventist Churchtoday still reflects the roots it had in the
Second Great Awakening. The founding principles that the Millerites discovered as
they broke away from the mainstream Christianity of their time, are still a part of
what we believe today. The Adventist faith holds that anyone who comes to Christ
is a new creation and can find salvation.[9] There is no predestination and once
saved does not assure that we are always saved. But no matter what, anyone can
come to God for His gift of salvation.[10] Just like the second coming of Christ was
an important part of the Second Great Awakening and a key foundation of the
Millerite Movement, Adventists have in their name the hope of His
Epic Heroism Is Epitomized By The Anglo Saxon Warrior
Epic heroism is epitomized by the remarkable Anglo Saxon warrior Beowulf, the
protagonist of a powerful poem named for this exemplar. True to a legendary hero,
Beowulf embodies qualities of virtue and strength that are unparalleled in the
common man. His youth is characterized by awesome displays of physical strength,
unmatched by others. Beyond his brawny, unyielding exterior, there exists a
compilation of equally mighty virtues that endure and motivate him throughout his
life. Beowulfis compelled by loyalty, lineage and honor. He is also motivated by
bravery, courage and confidence. Remarkably, it is his boastfulness and pride that
may ultimately be a fatal, tragic flaw for this compelling warrior. Indeed, Beowulf s
greatness physically, spiritually and morally make him the ultimate epic hero.
A hero is called to respond to circumstances of despair in an attempt to remedy and
rescue with an outcome that brings not only resolution to others, but also glory to
himself. Beowulf, the valiant hero, initially asserts himself in to the woes of the
Danes led by the noble king Hrothgar, who suffer from the transgressions of the evil
troll Grendel. Loyalty, a paramount virtue in warrior tribes, initially motivates
Beowulf to travel to Hrothgar s kingdom. My father was famous in many a folk
land,/ A leader noble, Ecgtheow his name!/ With loyal purpose we seek your lord
(195 197). This specifically shows the importance of lineage and its role with honor
and loyalty. As
Importance Of Drug Testing For Professional Athletes
Should All Professional Athletes be Tested For Drugs?
Roger Maris was the first major league baseball player to hit 61 home runs in one
season in 1961, beating Babe Ruth s record of 60 in 1927. Thirty seven years later in
1998, St. Louis Cardinals player Mark McGwire and Chicago Cubs player Sammy
Sosa fought hard to see who could break the previous record of 61. At the end of
Sosa s season, he finished with an extraordinary 66 home runs, five home runs over
the record. However, McGwire finished remarkably with 70 home runs, nine home
runs over the record. Twelve years later in 2010, McGwire revealed that he had used
androstenedione, a common over the counter drug. At the time of the record chase,
androstenedione was still legal in baseball, but in the International Olympic
Committee, the NFL, and National Collegiate Athletic Association, androstenedione
was considered illegal and you would be disqualified or even expelled from the
league if it was found in your blood. Today, people still argue whether or not
McGwire should be the record holder. Drug testing for professional athletes should be
required because performance enhancing drugs are unhealthy, they can lead to
negative consequences, and they are not a good influence for children looking up to
these athletes.
The first reason that drug testing for professional athletes should be required is that
performance enhancing drugs are unhealthy. Performance enhancing drugs can

Controversy over the Drinking Age
For decades now, the issue of what age should be considered the proper age to
drink alcohol has been intensely debated. Since the 1980s, the nationwide legal
drinking age has been 21 and older for the United States. However, this age limit
imposed on the consumption of alcohol was controversial then, and it continues to be
so today. In 2008, John McCardell, leader of Choose Responsibility and former
president of Middlebury College, joined a campaign known as the Amethyst Initiative
, which proposed lowering the drinking age to an unspecified number (Amethyst
Initiative). In conjunction with this initiative, McCardell wrote an article entitled
Rethinking the drinking age of 21 . On the other hand, an article in the Chicago
Tribune called... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet the Chicago Tribune challenges McCardell s belief that lowering the drinking
age will result in safer drinking. The Chicago Tribune states, legalizing something
generally invites more indulgence, not less. It is the belief of the Chicago Tribune
that taking part in a greater consumption of alcohol can hardly be safe. The
Chicago Tribune reinforces this belief with a statistic, stating that when states
lowered their drinking ages in the 1970s, alcohol related crashes involving teens
rose. For this reason, the Chicago Tribune disagrees with the claim that a lower
drinking age will result in safer drinking. Although McCardell and the Chicago
Tribune seem to be at irreconcilable odds on the matter, both appear to share a
common value: the safety of individuals. For instance, McCardell argues that
statistics do not really prove why the legal drinking age of 21 results in greater safety
for everyone, and he worries about the repercussions that the drinking age has had
on the safety of college students. Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune uses statistics to
express its belief that the drinking age of 21 is safer than that of a lower drinking
age, and that lowering the drinking age will only cause more harm to individuals, not
result in their safety. Both essays are primarily concerned with which drinking age
will lead to the optimal safety of the individual. Perhaps this common ground can lead
to a compromise within the debate concerning the legal drinking age.
The Bad Emperors of Rome Essay
Caring, respectable, valued and honoured are all traits desirable of an emperor.
Augustus encompassed all of these and went as far as restoring the Republican
government from its once fallen state, but this was all forgotten when Tiberius
became emperor. Tiberius was corrupt by power and Rome began to live in an era of
destruction. As well, the subsequent emperors, Caligula and Nerofollowed in the same
path, portraying violence and negatively impacting the city of Rome. Their reign
caused them to be unpopular as each marginalized pietas, the duty towards the Gods,
family, homeland, and followers, which is highly valued by the romans. This can be
seen through the actions and behaviours throughout their time as they were destructive

poorly, depriving her of the dowry left to her by her father and forbidding her to go

Tiberius showed no priority to visit her. When she died, he refused to attend her
funeral establishing a lack of respect and honour for her. Also outlining the
betrayal of his family is the starvation of his three grandsons. He destroyed every
bit of family he had, thus destroying the support of his followers as well, as
Romans did not respect those who could harm their family in such a way. While in
Capri, Tiberius was alone enjoying his privacy when a fisherman approached him.
Tiberius, being irritated by this disturbance, ordered his face to be mutilated with
the claws of the crab from which the fisherman made an offering. The people of
Rome were fearful of Tiberius, such that when they were called to trial, they stabbed
themselves in their homes. One day, both women and boys were strangled to death
by Tiberius executioner, but according to ancient customs, it is unlawful to kill a
virgin in such a manner. So the executioner raped the young girls not long before
strangling them. He came up with multiple ways of torturing people, such as hanging
men by their genitals and stopping
Jimi Hendrix s Life And Accomplishments
One of the most influential figures in modern music to this day, Jimi Hendrix, was a
complex and unusual man for his time. Being most well known for his eccentric
performances and style, both in fashion and in music, Jimi stood out in the western
world s very uniform Rock n Roll scene. Playing with his teeth, burning his guitar,
rising to fame in a matter of weeks all contributed to his remarkable life. Jimi Hendrix
s life and rise to fame were exceptionally unordinary and extraordinarily influential.
Filled with curiosities from the day he was born to his tragic drug related death, Jimi
was unusual. Accordingly, these curiosities are what makes Jimi Hendrix such a
notable figure in history. On November 27th, 1942, Johnny Allen Hendrix... Show

Despite serving for only one year as a paratrooper, Jimi was medically discharged
in 1962 due to injury (Murray). However, during his short time in the military,
Hendrix formed a band with fellow soldier, Billy Cox, and played for troops all
over the country ( Jimi Hendrix Biography ). When Hendrix was discharged, he
and Cox formed the band the King Kasuals, and played regularly in Nashville, TN
( Jimi Hendrix Biography ). While in Tennessee, Jimi played not only on the bass
with the King Kasuals, but as an accompanist to many musicians throughout the city
(Murray). A few of these musicians were Little Richard, the Isley Brothers, King
Curtis, and Curtis Knight with whose manager, Ed Chaplin, he signed a contract
with. This contract, however, failed, and Jimi moved himself and his band Jimmy
James and the Blue Flames to New York in 1965. Cafe Wha? , in Greenwich
Village, NY, was the club Jimmy James and the Blue Flames frequented most to
perform in. When witnessing one of the band s performances, concert goer, Linda
Keith, suggested to her friend Chas Chandler, former bassist of the band The Animals
and new found music manager and producer (Armstrong). When Chas heard the band
first perform, he knew that Jimi was very special. With promises to introduce Jimmy
to his hero, Eric Clapton, Chas convinced Hendrix to allow him to become his
manager (Armstrong). As manager, Chas first convinced Jimmy to
Shakespeare As A Modern Comedy
William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright and actor. He is widely
regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world s pre eminent
dramatist. He is often called England s national poet and the Bard of Avon.
Shakespeare has written many plays during his time. He wrote poems, tragedies,
and of course some of his most known plays are comedies. What made Shakespeare
so popular? Why are his comedies so well known? How did his way of writing
comedies form the way others wrote and continue to write in the years after him?
These are some questions many educators and students want to understand while
studying Shakespeare. Focusing on his writing within his most popular comedies,
Shakespeare has formed literature into what it is today. When the first collected
edition of Shakespeare s plays, the First Folio, was published in 1623, its contents
page divided them into three categories: comedies, histories and, tragedies. The list
of comedies included Measure for Measure and The Merchant of Venice, plays that
modern audiences and readers have not found particularly funny. Also included
were two late plays, The Tempest and The Winter s Tale, that critics often now
classify as romances (Mullan). If we ask ourselves what these four plays have in
common with those such as As You Like It or Twelfth Night; which we are used to
calling comedies, the answer gives us a clue to the meaning of comedyfor many of
Shakespeare s educated contemporaries. All of them

Crew Resource Management and Aviation Safety Essay
Abstract
Throughout the history of aviation, accidents have and will continue to occur. With
the introduction of larger and more complex aircraft, the number of humans required
to operate these complex machines has increased as well as, some say, the probability
of human error. There are studies upon studies of aircraft accidents and incidents
resulting from breakdowns in crew coordination and, more specifically, crew
communication. These topics are the driving force behind crew resource management
. This paper will attempt to present the concept of crew resource management (CRM)
and its impact on aviation safety in modern commercial and military aviation. The
concept is not a new one, but is continually evolving and can even ... Show more

One of the two key elements of CRM is situational awareness, or, SA . Simply put,
it is the understanding of the conditions surrounding your flight. Knowing what is
happening, what has happened in the past and how that may affect your flight in
the future. Situational awareness is probably best described as a conditioned state
of mind while flying. It comes from experience and knowledge and can be blocked
by being unfit to fly do to fatigue, for example. This concept is obviously a major
consideration in flying all aircraft, but can be considered to be somewhat easier
maintained in a crew aircraft than in a single pilot one.
Another key concept in CRM is communication. This is a topic best described in it s
own publication, as there are numerous factors that contribute to successful or failed
communication. There are many factors to be considered when analyzing
communication in the context of CRM, such as dialect. English is the universal air
traffic language, yet it would be impossible to regulate accents and intelligibility of
an air traffic controller or aircraft crew. This can obviously lead to missed
communication between an American
The Women Of Beauty
Women across the globe face this pressure to live up to a certain standard of beauty.
Women will dye their hair, wax their eyebrows, and some even spend thousands of
dollars on plastic surgery, all in an attempt to fit society s perception of beauty.
African American women and women of color in particular struggle to embrace their
own unique beauty, especially when dealing with things such as skin complexion, hair
, and Afrocentric facial features. People have grown up in a society that leads them
to believe that beauty can be achieved if you have fair skin, straight hair, or having
the ideal body Societies views on what is attractive, can persuade another person s
views on attraction. Attraction is partially biological, but also social. Which is why it
is important to have a vast selection of beautiful women to show case that not only
Eurocentric features are attractive. African Americanwomen and other women of
color need more representations of women that look like them in the media. We need
more shows and movies, portraying images of womanof color as beautiful. . Out
there in the world, is a young black/brown girl, who is idealizing Barbie s, celebrities,
and characters that look nothing like her, causing her to feel unaccepted for her
Afrocentric features. I am also concerned about the young girls growing up in this
generation. It breaks my heart to see young beautiful girls that have been brainwashed
with the mentality that being beautiful means being light skin and

  • 2. Muhammed Ali Research Paper The term legend is overused, often directed at individuals who are undeserving of the title. Such is not the case for legendary boxer and humanitarian Muhammed Ali. After a long battle with Parkinson s disease, Ali finally succumbed to complications this past week while being treated for respiratory issues in a Phoenix hospital. He was 74 years old. Ali s boxing career was marked by both brilliance and controversy. As a brash young pugilist, he made his mark on the boxing world in the late 1960s through the 1970s with a record of 55 5. During this time, he claimed the World Heavyweight title three times (a record) and fought some of the sport s greatest fighters. Among his most dangerous opponents were Hall of Fame fighters like Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, George Foreman and Floyd Patterson. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While his trash talking brought with it a lot of entertainment value, it also offended people in the sport who took exception to some of his comments. To non boxing fans, he will always be remembered as the conscientious objector who refused to enlist for military service in Vietnam due to his Islamic beliefs. His decision riled the nation, resulting in a 3 year suspension from boxing. After resuming his boxing career, he would continue his siege on the Heavyweight title. Outside of the ring, Ali (born Cassius Marcellus Clay) garnered a reputation as a true humanitarian. Even during the 20 something years he was battling Parkinson s, he traveled the world and spoke out about poverty, racial inequality and the quest for peace throughout the world. It is in his role as an ambassador to the world that he will be missed by family, friends and the legion of fans he acquired throughout his many

Evolution Of Technology In Australia It can t be denied that the technological age has had a profound influence on essentially every industry and profession of the world, and while these developments have exponentially beneficial to industries such as modern medicine, fields such as the legal system are struggling to adequately adapt and continue adapting to the constantly advancing technological world. Consequently, Australian legal practitioners new and old are facing the question of whether the evolution of technology has become so far advanced that the current legislations regarding law, technology and how it is used have become inappropriate and inequitable. In Queensland, over the past three years (as at 2011) more than 450 child pornography charges have been laid against youths between the ages of 10 and 17, including 113 charges of making child exploitation material . In January, two West Australian boys one 15 and the other 16 were reportedly placed on the state s sex offender registry after they were caught engaging in group sex with a girl, 14. A third boy was also listed as a sex offender after using his mobile phone to film the incident, with the intention of online distribution. (Tin,2011) It should be further noted that the age of consent of social accounts such as Facebook and Instagram do not conform with the Australian consensual age of 16, which are put in place to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse. • 4. Examples Of Avid College Exploratory Essay The Avid College Exploratory Essay The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character that is the goal of true education. Martin Luther King, Jr. When researching for this exploratory essay I stumbled upon this quote, and it really made me think about what the true purpose of higher education is and ever will be. That is to allow you to go deeper into a subject of interest at a school of excellence. Some common aspects to consider are the Social aspect, the Financial aspect, and the Academic aspect. All of these are important in deciding on the school that one would fancy attending. I believe that one should shoot for the moon but perhaps miss and still land amongst the stars. By using that reasoning I have decided to use, the University of Cambridge, England as my College for the assigned task. Using this highly prestigious institution, I will discuss in detail the 3 main factors in deciding on a school of higher education and those are, the Social, Financial, and Academic Aspects respectively. The School is known for having one of the highest intellectual standards in the world, however, the university on average accepts 21% of all applicants. This number was surprisingly high to me at first as well. But, after some more in depth research, I found that the average SAT score was 1460/1600 or 32/36 on the ACT. On top of this, the average accepted high school GPA was a 4.20. Clearly, I would need to study extremely hard to have a potential chance at it but, it is definitely
  • 5. Aaron Hines Research Paper Aaron Hines, a freshman at Fairmont State University, says that one of his fondest memories of childhood is when his grandfather decided that the family should purchase cows to add to the family farm. Aaron, his grandfather, and other members of family spent an entire summer building two fences to keep the cows in the yard. Many mistakes, along with memories, were made during the process but by the end of the summer, the fence was successfully constructed. Hines, an 18 year old student who loves theater, considers himself to be, of many things, family oriented, hardworking, and kind. He, unlike most, grew up on a farm where he continues to live rather than stay on campus. Although Aaron s major is undecided as of yet, he hopes that his hard work this year may steer him in a more specific direction. The painting represents the scene of the death of Greek philosopher Socrates. He was condemned to die by drinking hemlock for the expression of his ideas against those of Athens and corrupting the minds of the youth. The painting also depicts both Plato and Crito, with the former sitting at the edge of the bed and the latter clutching the knee of Socrates. Socrates had the choice to go into exile and , hence, give up his philosophic vocation or be sentenced to death by drinking hemlock. Socrates chose death. People were very conservative those times meaning they could not , psychologically, accept new ideas. It is likely that they felt like they are betraying their ancestors. Also, both the two colonies had cold winters and warm and humid summers. These colonies had lots of similarities. However,
  • 8. Narrative Essay On Irish Dance Day 6: I was served a traditional Irish breakfast this morning, and aside from the puddings (which weren t too bad), it was similar to a traditional breakfast I get at home. After breakfast, we boarded the bus and headed for Glenveagh Castle. The castle itself was beautiful, from the elaborate interiors, to the stunning gardens and trails, and the gorgeous scenery. The castle even has a curse attached to it, showing how Irish culture is fond of myths and superstitions. After we left the castle, we went back to the community center for lessons in Irish culture and dance. Although it is not the most common spoken language in Ireland, Gaelic, is the national language of Ireland. Having their own national language would promote nationalism within the country, giving the people something of their own that wasn t established when Brittan took over. I was as good at learning Gaelic as I was with Spanish, terrible, after the session all I could remember was how to ask for a pint and how to ask for food. Out of the two sessions, I was far better at the Irish dancing. The session itself was one of the most fun things I did in Ireland, learning the various dances and the meaning behind them. Irish dancing, like Gaelic, is very important to the Irish people, even our language instructor know some of the Irish dances. That was not the only place that I saw Irish dancing, it was common at pubs when bands were playing and even people in the crowds joined in. The Irish dancing itself is
  • 9. Network Based Intrusion Detection Systems ( Idss ) Abstract: Providing security in a distributed system is important as cloud computing provides variety of convenient services. IDS implementation in cloud requires an efficient, scalable and a constructive approach. Many Network based intrusion detection systems(NIDS) are used for the reception of packets from the cloud, but those systems possess lower detection rate, high false positive rate and they fail to resist single point attack. I would like to propose one method which I encountered and found out to be efficient compared to other methods. This unique model has multiple intrusion detection systems (IDSs) that are deployed in each layer of the cloud infrastructure for protecting each Virtual Machine against threats. Another catching feature is that of cloud alliance concept which exchanges mutual alerts to resist the single point attack of failure. Introduction Cloud ComputingThe term cloud is analogical to Internet. Similarly cloud computing is a model for delivering information technology services in which resources are retrieved from the internet through web based tools and applications, rather than a direct connection to a server.(Corey 2008) Figure 1: Overview of Cloud Computing, Source: Sam Johnston, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cloud_computing.svg Cloud computing is Internet based computing wherein the virtual shared servers provide infrastructure, platform and various resources including customer hosting as a service on pay as you use basis. Due to the large investments made, it brought on the temptation of cooking the books to move money around to places it should not be. Management then began to put a plan together, to move small amounts at a time, so as not to be detected. It was reported that HealthSouth was overstated investments by almost 5 billion, which made the average journal entry around $2,500. • 11. Great Expectations And Oliver Twist Analysis People tend naively see orphans and those without caring families as hopeless and loveless creatures. However, the goodness of strangers can easily prove these thoughts nonsensical as people can provide an abundance of support and love to those with no blood relation to them and can embrace strangers as family. In Charles Dickenstwo novels Great Expectationsand Oliver Twist, Dickens challenges the typical idea of parentage and suggests the through love and generosity anyone can become a guardian or mentor figure. Therefore, people should not place as much faith in blood relations and look to others for sources of guidance and compassion. Although bloodlines seemed to dictate who raised whom in the 1830s, children could find guidance through those closest to them regardless of their non familial relationship. In Oliver Twist, Dickens provides numerous figures to guide poor Oliver, none of which are related to him by blood, excepting Rose. After falling ill and denounced as a thief, Mr. Brownlow and the housekeeper bestow great kindness and tender care upon Oliver and nurture him as though he was their child: I have never forgotten them or his quiet smile, but have seen them every day, side by side with those of my own children (388). The housekeeper especially gives motherly attention to Oliver although she has no prior relation to him. She compares Oliver to her memories of her own progeny and therefore blatantly stands in as a mother figure in Oliver s life. By

Robertson Ashford University A Strong Central Government Government of any kind is set up to make a country run smother and with less problems. The United States government should have less ability to override state policy without proof of why it should be overridden. It should be something that each state has the ability to defend against and with a panel. Federal policy is about an overall problem but not the problem at the state level since each state would face cases of different types of problems. National Policy Washington should not have greater power to dictate national... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amending the Constitution. If the constitution was amended Washington DC should not be given any more power over the states. The states should have more power over many things that are state specific. If Washington is given, more power than it would be less state specific and more generalized which this country does not need at this time. The country needs leaders who are aware of the problems at every level and not lumping them into one huge issue that general public cannot understand. Washington sees the big picture State sees several pictures that form a problem. If it is looked at from the state point of view then each state can see the problem on their level, choose a solution, and solve the problem before the crisis stage. If Washington still has the issue then they can model their solution after state solutions or combine to make a better solution. The only thing in my opinion that needs more federal power is the education system and levels of the United States. The United States is getting further and further behind other countries in education and an internal problem. Those who run the systems earn more than those who are teaching the youth of today and the leaders of tomorrow. If states cannot afford to pay teachers then the federal government needs to step in and mandate class size, curriculum, and basic fundamentals so that we as a country
  • 13. Argumentative Essay On Companion Animals Companion animals have not always been considered beneficial to the human existence. In pasted centuries companion animals were consider objects with little value. For example, Martha C. Armstrong stated that, pound dogs stood little chance of escaping their destiny: death by starvation, injury, gassing, or drowning. As Heffernan explained: Notwithstanding its merit in excluding unreliable evidence and enhancing adjudication, the rule against hearsay suffers from the disadvantage that it is overly broad in its application. These companies enter into hedging contracts to mitigate their exposure to future fuel prices that may be higher than current prices and/or to establish a known fuel cost for budgeting purposes. If a large fuel consuming company buys a fuel swap and the price of fuel declines, the company will effectively be forced to pay an above market rate for fuel. If a large fuel consuming company buys a fuel call option and the price of fuel increases, the company will receive a return on the option that offsets their actual cost of fuel. If a large fuel consuming company buys a fuel call option, which requires an upfront premium cost, much like insurance, and the price of fuel decreases, the company will not receive a return on the option but they will benefit from buying fuel at the then lower price. 2. It is used as a healthcare tool to detect gene variants associated to a certain disease or disorder, and is used non clinically for paternity testing and forensics. There are many different methods of testing, usually done with a blood sample. Other methods include diagnostic testing, carrier testing, prenatal testing, pre implantation genetic testing, newborn screening, pharmacogentic testing, and a few others. DNAhas about 12 million single nucleotide polymorphisms and thousands of copy number variants, most of which are not harmful. Sometimes these mutations in genes can cause genetic disorders that end up altering or inhibiting protein function. GeneTherapy focuses on correcting the mutated genes usually by inserting a normal gene into the genome. Researchers treat these diseases this way by repairing dysfunctional gene or by providing copies of the missing gene. They isolate the normal DNA and package it into a vector. Other ways include replacing the abnormal gene with a normal one, repair the mutated gene, or altering the regulation of a certain gene. As of right now, reparative results have been marginal, there is potential of gene therapy treating single gene disorders. When used in healthcare, genetic testing can show the genetic cause of a disease, confirm a suspected diagnosis of an illness, predict future illnesses, and predict responses to

Introduction For many years, parents have relied on using educational programs to teach and engage their children with new concepts and materials. Conversely, many children have also used television as an opportunity for learning and language development. For example, the rise of television programs like Elmo Street and Teletubbies demonstrates this upward trend of substituting media sources for teaching and learning. However, despite the increasing support from parents toward television programs, many researchers have mixed reviews on putting our children into viewing long hours of what they considered unnecessary learning. Thus in what follows of this paper, I will focus on explaining how television programs can support and facilitate word development. Moreover, I will also discuss the mixed literacy support for using television as a learning tool and finally, I will conduct a study that measures, specifically, the relationship between watching educational TV and learning novel words. Hopefully, with these measures, I will be able to find supporting evidence that proves educational TV can be a good predictor for word learning. Throughout the years, one continuous point of debate has been whether educational TV can facilitate and improve word learning in children. Many studies on this debate have found distinct and mixed research outcomes. For example, one study has been Mabel s Rice Word from Sesame Street, in which he found mixed supporting evidence that television
  • 34. Gas Exchange, The Diffusion Of Gases Across A Semi... Gas exchange is the diffusion of gases across a semi permeable membrane. Gas exchange is the process by which oxygen, O2, is taken into the bloodstream while carbon dioxide, CO2, is released. All organisms carry out gas exchange as they must exchange gases with the environment in order to respire. Cellular respiration occurs as cells use the energy to survive. Oxygenis needed by cells to take out ATP from organic molecules, while simultaneously carbon dioxideis produced and must be disposed. In order for efficient gas exchange to occur, gas exchange membranes must have a large surface area to volume ratio, be thin, permeable to gases, moist, maintain a concentration gradient, and have a short diffusiondistance. Insects, fish and mammals are three species that carry out gas exchange as they require oxygen to live. INSECTS An insect is any small invertebrate animal e.g. grasshopper, locust, caterpillar etc. that have three segments known as a head, thorax and abdomen. Insects have an open circulatory system, and a fluid known as haemolymph that flows through their bodies. Respiration the energy release process carried out in the mitochondria occurs in the cells and gas exchange in insects occurs in the tracheal system. The tracheal system opens to the exoskeleton of the insect through small pores known as spiracles. Spiracles are often arranged on either side of the body segments. These pores are often found with fine hairs which filter the air as it enters the tracheal

Difference Between Internal And External Crowdsourcing According to several scholars (including Villarroel and Reis, 2010; Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013; Carlson and Wilmot, 2006; Chesbrough, 2006a, 2006b; Byren, 2013; Yap, 2012; Howe, 2006, 2009; Brabham, 2008b, 2009, 2013), the main difference between internal and external crowdsourcing can be summarized as follows: i) the internal crowd(employees) is known to the firm; ii) the crowd can be all employees of the firm, a subsidiary of the firm, or may also include partners and suppliers; iii) the crowd is specifically used for problem solving or aggregating ideas for innovation purposes; and iv) the crowd may also be anyone with internet or mobile remote access capable of participating in a crowdsourcingcontest and vote on the ideas of others. Internal crowdsourcing is easier to implement in companies where social media acceptance is high (Yap, 2012); crowdsourcing attempts within companies don t measure up to the external crowd (Boudreau and Lakhani, 2013). Crowdsourcing forms such as idea marketplaces and idea jams lack the capabilities and fall short to the external crowd s full capacity. Boudreau and Lakhani (2013) believes employees are discouraged from seeking challenges; Yap (2012) says that internal crowdsourcing unveil innovations from employees which otherwise would not be captured. Carlson and Wilmot (2006) emphasizes that every employee does in fact has the ability to innovate, and must do so for their company to stay competitive. The desire for deeper exploration of

For me soccer is everything I play it, watch it, and talk about it, the sport has led my life since I first gained interest towards it in grade four. There must be a reason why it the most watched sport in the world, it brings everyone in the world together no matter what race, nationality, or gender. Ever since grade six I have been trying to encourage soccer into my projects for school, I haven t had a chance of properly incorporating my true passion. This is until now, the first time I ever heard of the personal project was the first time I came to Carson Graham. Our school in grade seven brought us to this massive school in which we had no clue about why we were actually there. The first presentation I saw was someone who built a robot that could follow lights for direction. The thought that I had to do this project in grade ten scared me, I had no clue what I really wanted to do. This was until I started thinking about it more and one thought came into my mind, that was to create Goal Line Technology. This form of technology was quite new at the time, this was because they just announced that they were going to start using it in one of the top five leagues in Europe, the first league to incorporate it was the Barclay s Premier League. My project goal was to create a fully working demo of Goal Line Technology. At first I was scared that I

And can we assume that if parental involvement is the key factor in a child being school ready, can we also assume that a working mom just won t offer her children the same number of quality early experiences as that of a stay at home mom? These are just a few of the questions surrounding this topic, and we attempt to answer some of them in this study. However, we must first explore the research that speaks to the imperative role of parental involvement and its direct relationship to academic achievement and school readiness in children, namely children entering Kindergarten for the first time. A considerable body of literature exists to support the theory that parental involvement in children s education during pre Kindergarten years has a direct, positive impact on childhood development and academic achievement. (El Nokali, Bachman, Votruba Drzal, 2010; Fan Chen, 2001; Hill Chao, 2009; Seginer, 2006). Parental involvement in a child s early education can take many shapes and forms including one or all of the following: parental attitudes toward education, parental behaviors to prepare children for school experiences, educational expectations of parents, etc. (Seginer, 2006). In the industries of pediatrics and education, we often hear the child s brain referred to as a sponge . This is because 90% of a child s brain is developed before the age of

In my opinion, Never Cry Wolf placed humans in the role of intruders as far as nature is concerned. Mowat cites several instances where humans violate nature and represent a threat to its sanctity. Even though this threat is not reciprocated by nature, humans continue to infringe upon nature and then deny the consequences of their actions. Two prevalent examples of this occur: when Mowat accidentally wanders into the wolves den when the wolves are there, and again when he discovers a herd of deer that have been slaughtered by hunters. They were not the only group to look forward to this event but it became of paramount interest to the Millerites, as they had a set date for Christ s second return.[8] As the Second Great Awakening grew more mindful of Christ s second coming, so did the Millerite Movement. The story of William Miller is one which climaxes in his desire to share about Christ s immediate return and the Great Disappointment. The result is the Adventist church we have today. True to a legendary hero, Beowulf embodies qualities of virtue and strength that are unparalleled in the common man. His youth is characterized by awesome displays of physical strength, unmatched by others. Beyond his brawny, unyielding exterior, there exists a compilation of equally mighty virtues that endure and motivate him throughout his life. Beowulfis compelled by loyalty, lineage and honor. He is also motivated by bravery, courage and confidence. Remarkably, it is his boastfulness and pride that may ultimately be a fatal, tragic flaw for this compelling warrior. Indeed, Beowulf s greatness physically, spiritually and morally make him the ultimate epic hero. A hero is called to respond to circumstances of despair in an attempt to remedy and rescue with an outcome that brings not only resolution to others, but also glory to himself. Beowulf, the valiant hero, initially asserts himself in to the woes of the Danes led by the noble king Hrothgar, who suffer from the transgressions of the evil troll Grendel. Roger Maris was the first major league baseball player to hit 61 home runs in one season in 1961, beating Babe Ruth s record of 60 in 1927. Thirty seven years later in 1998, St. Louis Cardinals player Mark McGwire and Chicago Cubs player Sammy Sosa fought hard to see who could break the previous record of 61. At the end of Sosa s season, he finished with an extraordinary 66 home runs, five home runs over the record. However, McGwire finished remarkably with 70 home runs, nine home runs over the record. Twelve years later in 2010, McGwire revealed that he had used androstenedione, a common over the counter drug. At the time of the record chase, androstenedione was still legal in baseball, but in the International Olympic Committee, the NFL, and National Collegiate Athletic Association, androstenedione was considered illegal and you would be disqualified or even expelled from the league if it was found in your blood. Since the 1980s, the nationwide legal drinking age has been 21 and older for the United States. However, this age limit imposed on the consumption of alcohol was controversial then, and it continues to be so today. In 2008, John McCardell, leader of Choose Responsibility and former president of Middlebury College, joined a campaign known as the Amethyst Initiative , which proposed lowering the drinking age to an unspecified number (Amethyst Initiative). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet the Chicago Tribune challenges McCardell s belief that lowering the drinking age will result in safer drinking. The Chicago Tribune states, legalizing something generally invites more indulgence, not less. It is the belief of the Chicago Tribune that taking part in a greater consumption of alcohol can hardly be safe. The Chicago Tribune reinforces this belief with a statistic, stating that when states lowered their drinking ages in the 1970s, alcohol related crashes involving teens rose. For this reason, the Chicago Tribune disagrees with the claim that a lower drinking age will result in safer drinking. Although McCardell and the Chicago Tribune seem to be at irreconcilable odds on the matter, both appear to share a common value: the safety of individuals. For instance, McCardell argues that statistics do not really prove why the legal drinking age of 21 results in greater safety for everyone, and he worries about the repercussions that the drinking age has had on the safety of college students. Meanwhile, the Chicago Tribune uses statistics to express its belief that the drinking age of 21 is safer than that of a lower drinking age, and that lowering the drinking age will only cause more harm to individuals, not result in their safety. Both essays are primarily concerned with which drinking age will lead to the optimal safety of the individual. Perhaps this common ground can lead to a compromise within the debate concerning the legal drinking age.

Shakespeare has written many plays during his time. He wrote poems, tragedies, and of course some of his most known plays are comedies. What made Shakespeare so popular? Why are his comedies so well known? How did his way of writing comedies form the way others wrote and continue to write in the years after him? These are some questions many educators and students want to understand while studying Shakespeare. Focusing on his writing within his most popular comedies, Shakespeare has formed literature into what it is today. When the first collected edition of Shakespeare s plays, the First Folio, was published in 1623, its contents page divided them into three categories: comedies, histories and, tragedies. The list of comedies included Measure for Measure and The Merchant of Venice, plays that modern audiences and readers have not found particularly funny. Also included were two late plays, The Tempest and The Winter s Tale, that critics often now classify as romances (Mullan). If we ask ourselves what these four plays have in common with those such as As You Like It or Twelfth Night; which we are used to calling comedies, the answer gives us a clue to the meaning of comedyfor many of Shakespeare s educated contemporaries.
