Whales are divided into groups by the way they catch their food.  The two groups are: Toothed Whales They must chase and catch their food They catch one piece at a time Each animal has different teeth to fit different needs Baleen Whales The baleen whales strain food out of the water. Plankton is the food most often eaten thousands of pounds in a day. The baleen is made of material like your finger nails.
