Customer Experience: A Catalyst for Digital TransformationCloudera, Inc.
Customer experience is a catalyst in many digital transformation projects. It is why many businesses invest in new technologies and processes to more effectively engage customers, constituents, or employees. The goal of putting digital tools to work in a transformative way is to ensure that data and insights connect people with information and processes that ultimately lead to a better experience for customers. Yet, it demands a modern approach that considers all of the platforms, processes, and data across the customer journey. The goal for many organizations is dynamically maintaining a single source of truth about each customer to drive personalized experiences based on individual preferences and behaviors.
However, businesses today have primarily invested in systems of record. While these systems are critical for managing internal operational processes, they are typically not effective for today's pace of business change. Insight-driven experiences require customer intelligence platforms that can finally create a customer 360. The deeper data and improved algorithms now available let users factor in individual affinity, segment, and a myriad of growing data sources. The result is greater relevance and effectiveness to deliver a differentiated experience that in today’s competitive landscape is not a luxury, but a necessity for survival.
In this session we will address:

•Leaders and Laggards of digital transformation
•How to create data-driven customer insights

Understand the What, Why & How of Digital Transformation Featuring 451 ResearchVMware Tanzu
Why did we hear so much about “Digital Transformation” in 2016, and frankly what does it mean? While it's easy to dismiss the phrase with an eye-roll, there's no better phrase to represent improving how IT is used to help drive business innovation...and the huge changes organizations must go through to be successful. This webinar with Nick Patience, Research Vice President for 451 Research's software team, and Michael Coté of Pivotal will discuss a pragmatic definition and approach to Digital Transformation as seen through the experiences of organizations who've lived through it.
Digital Transformation is about fundamentally rebuilding business and IT processes, not just about building apps. 451 Research defines Digital Transformation as “a result of IT innovation that is aligned with and driven by a well-planned business strategy, with the goal of transforming how organizations serve customers, employees and partners.” Some main features of a successful transformation include the ability to quickly react to market demands, and use information to make better decisions and serve constituents more effectively.
In this webinar Nick Patience of 451 Research and Pivotal’s Michael Cote will discuss:
- Why now is the time for Digital Transformation
- How the balance of power between customer and provider contributes to this new revolution
- Shifting priorities that require new practices and processes and the technical tools and platforms that support them
- Real-world examples of organizations that have been there (we’ll share all the gorey details, including what worked and didn't work for them)

Collaborative Data Management: How Crowdsourcing Can Help To Manage DataEdward Curry
Data management efforts such as MDM are a popular approach for high quality enterprise data. However, MDM can be heavily centralized and labour intensive, where the cost and effort can become prohibitively high. The concentration of data management and stewardship onto a few highly skilled individuals, like developers and data experts, can be a significant bottleneck. This talk explores how to effectively involving a wider community of users within collaborative data management activities. The bottom-up approach of involving crowds in the creation and management of data has been demonstrated by projects like Freebase, Wikipedia, and DBpedia. The talk is discusses how collaborative data management can be applied within an enterprise context using platforms such as Amazon Mechanical Turk, Mobile Works, and internal enterprise human computation platforms.
Topics covered include:
- Introduction to Crowdsourcing and Human Computation for Data Management
- Crowds vs. Communities, When to use them and why
- Push vs. Pull methods of crowdsourcing data management
- Setting up and running a collaborative data management process
- Modelling the expertise of communities
Peter Weill discusses four pathways to digital business transformation:
1. Operational Excellence - Focus on efficiency through automation and standardization.
2. New Organization - Make major changes through organizational "explosions" like overhauling decision rights.
3. Customer Experience - Prioritize the customer experience through initiatives like omnichannel capabilities.
4. Stair Steps - Incremental changes through a series of smaller steps rather than one big transformation.
He found that globally most companies are about one-third complete in their transformations, with Australia similar at 26-38% on average across the four pathways.
Benchmarking Digital Readiness: Moving at the Speed of the MarketApigee | Google Cloud
This document discusses how companies can benchmark their digital readiness and move faster in the digital market. It finds that digital leaders who adopt apps, APIs, and data analytics outperform digital laggards. To move up, companies need business and technology leadership. They should think strategically about customer experience, operations, data, and innovation to access new revenue channels beyond direct monetization. Technologically, companies should take a "cloud first" and "outside in" approach to deliver fast, differentiated customer experiences through systems of engagement built on APIs and backends.

The COVID 19 global pandemic has been a compelling event for many enterprises to rethink their strategies around connected customer experiences. This paradigm shift of digital-first can be very challenging for organizations with legacy processes and apps. There is a critical need for expedited delivery and strategic disruption within an enterprise for successful and sustainable business transformation.
In this session, I share two phenomenal case studies that showcase how teams disrupted organizational culture and existing processes in a non-traditional way to achieve their business outcomes. Through these stories, I highlight how important it is to rethink and reimagine the way we approach problems and develop solutions, and also have fun while we are achieving our business outcomes.

Execute a Successful Digital Transformation using Lean, Agile, and DevOps Pri...Gautham Pallapa
In this talk, I share approaches to execute a successful digital transformation using Agile Engineering, a framework that combines Lean, Agile, and DevOps principles.
I also share 10 anti-patterns that tend to prevent a successful transformation, and counter-measures for these anti-patterns.
Common Anti-patterns that Impede a Successful Digital TransformationGautham Pallapa
Lean, Agile, and DevOps are being used as tools to drive digital transformations across companies. The focus is heavily on technology, and less on people and processes, as the silver bullet to realizing their outcomes. This results in some anti-patterns that impede success of a digital transformation.
In this session hosted by GitHub and Object Partners, I talk about the common transformational anti-patterns, and share approaches, experiments, and tips that could help.
The document discusses using data visualization to drive collaboration and quality improvement. It argues that while spreadsheets are useful for optimization problems, visualizing data in infographic style allows stakeholders to have more constructive conversations. The document presents an example from West Corporation called CEEQ (Comprehensive End to End Quality) scoring, which visualizes software quality metrics. CEEQ scoring frames discussions around overall success and quality rather than isolating individual metrics, and provides nuanced insights to identify improvement opportunities.
ViewShift: Hassle-free Dynamic Policy Enforcement for Every Data LakeWalaa Eldin Moustafa
Dynamic policy enforcement is becoming an increasingly important topic in today’s world where data privacy and compliance is a top priority for companies, individuals, and regulators alike. In these slides, we discuss how LinkedIn implements a powerful dynamic policy enforcement engine, called ViewShift, and integrates it within its data lake. We show the query engine architecture and how catalog implementations can automatically route table resolutions to compliance-enforcing SQL views. Such views have a set of very interesting properties: (1) They are auto-generated from declarative data annotations. (2) They respect user-level consent and preferences (3) They are context-aware, encoding a different set of transformations for different use cases (4) They are portable; while the SQL logic is only implemented in one SQL dialect, it is accessible in all engines.

End-to-end pipeline agility - Berlin Buzzwords 2024Lars Albertsson
We describe how we achieve high change agility in data engineering by eliminating the fear of breaking downstream data pipelines through end-to-end pipeline testing, and by using schema metaprogramming to safely eliminate boilerplate involved in changes that affect whole pipelines.
A quick poll on agility in changing pipelines from end to end indicated a huge span in capabilities. For the question "How long time does it take for all downstream pipelines to be adapted to an upstream change," the median response was 6 months, but some respondents could do it in less than a day. When quantitative data engineering differences between the best and worst are measured, the span is often 100x-1000x, sometimes even more.
A long time ago, we suffered at Spotify from fear of changing pipelines due to not knowing what the impact might be downstream. We made plans for a technical solution to test pipelines end-to-end to mitigate that fear, but the effort failed for cultural reasons. We eventually solved this challenge, but in a different context. In this presentation we will describe how we test full pipelines effectively by manipulating workflow orchestration, which enables us to make changes in pipelines without fear of breaking downstream.
Making schema changes that affect many jobs also involves a lot of toil and boilerplate. Using schema-on-read mitigates some of it, but has drawbacks since it makes it more difficult to detect errors early. We will describe how we have rejected this tradeoff by applying schema metaprogramming, eliminating boilerplate but keeping the protection of static typing, thereby further improving agility to quickly modify data pipelines without fear.
The Building Blocks of QuestDB, a Time Series Databasejavier ramirez
Talk Delivered at Valencia Codes Meetup 2024-06.
Traditionally, databases have treated timestamps just as another data type. However, when performing real-time analytics, timestamps should be first class citizens and we need rich time semantics to get the most out of our data. We also need to deal with ever growing datasets while keeping performant, which is as fun as it sounds.
It is no wonder time-series databases are now more popular than ever before. Join me in this session to learn about the internal architecture and building blocks of QuestDB, an open source time-series database designed for speed. We will also review a history of some of the changes we have gone over the past two years to deal with late and unordered data, non-blocking writes, read-replicas, or faster batch ingestion.
Natural Language Processing (NLP), RAG and its applications .pptxfkyes25
1. In the realm of Natural Language Processing (NLP), knowledge-intensive tasks such as question answering, fact verification, and open-domain dialogue generation require the integration of vast and up-to-date information. Traditional neural models, though powerful, struggle with encoding all necessary knowledge within their parameters, leading to limitations in generalization and scalability. The paper "Retrieval-Augmented Generation for Knowledge-Intensive NLP Tasks" introduces RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), a novel framework that synergizes retrieval mechanisms with generative models, enhancing performance by dynamically incorporating external knowledge during inference.

Enhanced Enterprise Intelligence with your personal AI Data Copilot.pdfGetInData
Recently we have observed the rise of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) that are community-driven or developed by the AI market leaders, such as Meta (Llama3), Databricks (DBRX) and Snowflake (Arctic). On the other hand, there is a growth in interest in specialized, carefully fine-tuned yet relatively small models that can efficiently assist programmers in day-to-day tasks. Finally, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures have gained a lot of traction as the preferred approach for LLMs context and prompt augmentation for building conversational SQL data copilots, code copilots and chatbots.
In this presentation, we will show how we built upon these three concepts a robust Data Copilot that can help to democratize access to company data assets and boost performance of everyone working with data platforms.
Why do we need yet another (open-source ) Copilot?
How can we build one?
