This results in some anti-patterns that impede success of a digital transformation. In this session hosted by GitHub and Object Partners, I talk about the common transformational anti-patterns, and share approaches, experiments, and tips that could help.

My Belief: Strategic Disruption Leads to Progress

The COVID 19 global pandemic has been a compelling event for many enterprises to rethink their strategies around connected customer experiences. This paradigm shift of digital-first can be very challenging for organizations with legacy processes and apps. There is a critical need for expedited delivery and strategic disruption within an enterprise for successful and sustainable business transformation. In this session, I share two phenomenal case studies that showcase how teams disrupted organizational culture and existing processes in a non-traditional way to achieve their business outcomes. Through these stories, I highlight how important it is to rethink and reimagine the way we approach problems and develop solutions, and also have fun while we are achieving our business outcomes.

Defer features with high expected costs of change, which is the probability of change multiplied by the cost of change. Features likely or costly to change should be delayed. 2. Prioritize features that generate useful knowledge, such as knowledge about a feature's desirability, usability, or technical feasibility. 3. Incorporate new learning often to decide what to do next, either implementing a feature now or reevaluating it later. Priorities should be reassessed each iteration to acknowledge continuous learning.

Textbook continuous delivery sounds great. We commit code, build it, deploy into a test lab, test and then promote to production. Clean, simple and effective. The reality for most applications is that some of their test environments are named things like "system integration". For the last 7 years I’ve been focused outwardly on exploring Kafka application development challenges, but recently I decided to look inward and see what I could discover about the performance, scalability and resource characteristics of the Kafka clusters themselves. Using a suite of Performance Engineering techniques, I will reveal some surprising discoveries about cosmic Kafka mysteries in our data centres, related to: cluster sizes and distribution (using Zipf’s Law), horizontal vs. vertical scalability, and predicting Kafka performance using metrics, modelling and regression techniques. These insights are relevant to Kafka developers and operators.
