- As you can see by this graph, mobile usage is growing fast and the need to keep websites updated at the most current level is all-important.
- With the growth of the mobile device industry and its expected expansion, existing websites could become unresponsive and unmanageable unless they are kept updated. Functionality needs change and software is evolving daily to meet the ever-changing technologies.
- Versatility in all areas of the website programming and adapting to many platforms and devices is crucial. Persons with and without disabilities should be able to access and use websites and the experience should be pleasant and effective. If it isn’t a good experience, the likelihood of them returning is slim.
- Whether the user is using Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and whether he or she is using a smartphone, tablet, desktop, or other device, websites must be designed and built to work with all.
- Websites should be able to adapt to usage in all devices, from desktop to mobile to home entertainment systems. They should work on all operating systems, including Apple OS and iOS, Windows-based, Linux and Android. If your site doesn’t work properly on all platforms, it could affect the ‘click-through” rates of your advertising which, in turn, would adversely affect revenue streams.
- Auto electronic devices are another device type that needs to be considered when re-designing your website.
- All users, with and without impairments of any type, should not have to deal with error messages if the website is designed properly. Many returning veterans have disabilities that make computer and other devices difficult to operate.
- Redesigning has an up front investment but it will pay dividends. If the website draws in donors of both cars and monetary donations because it is easy to navigate and the process is simple enough that donors and applicants don’t get discouraged, the organization will make much more revenue to serve more deserving people. Locations can be built across the country and the world to help many.
- As you can see, the image is cropped and reformatted as the screen gets smaller. This causes an incomplete content display and the message is lost.
- “The Fonz” knows that using wrong fonts and non-functioning script doesn’t work.
- In “Responsive Design,” The data is reformatted in a proper way and the message is still complete, as well as much easier to use.
- Redesign the website “responsively” and “adaptively” so that it works, without issue, from the smallest to the largest screen and on all operating systems. HTML 5 structural (semantic) tags, APIs, and CSS 3 style sheets would help to update the website. Add some Javascript and Flash, as well, to make the videos work. I would suggest a thorough evaluation and redesign using the most updated language that is supported across all browsers. Then, update as browsers update to accept new code.
- Using HTML 5 and CSS 3, bring the functionality up to date to work in all situations.
