Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

August 4th, 2014
Dear Grade 3 Parents,
Welcome to 3rd grade! Thank you for entrusting your child with us this year. As we are
about to start anew, I cannot wait to meet you and launch into learning together. I promise an
enriching and productive school year with you and your child.
My goal for this year is to help your child to be an independent and responsible learner, as
well as, to show him or her how to make responsible choices. To accomplish this goal, there will be
regular homework and we will be making the most of our class time. My expectations for the
students this year will be high. They will need to work hard and do their best.
Together with this letter, I’ve attached our schedule and some forms to be filled out. I need
this information to help me learn more about your child. You can send them back to me (through you
child) not later than Tuesday, August 12th, next week.
I believe that communication is the key to a successful classroom experience. Your child will
be bringing home a daily planner that will be used for quick reminders and homework. My classroom
blog (http://cismconnect.org/rruiz/) is your window to our classroom learning. I do a weekly update
so that you can track down what we’ve learned for the week, to keep you current on projects and
upcoming events, or check our lessons for the following week.
I already made a blog entry to help you get started during this first week of school. Please,
check http://cismconnect.org/rruiz/ to learn more about classroom policies, discipline, and answer
some questions you may have about the school year. Be sure to talk about these with your child. I
will go over everything again during our Open House sometime in September to clarify and explain
more about these key points.
My door is always open. If you have anything to share don’t hesitate to email me at
rruiz@cismanila.org or send a note through your child. I also have conference times during the day,
so if you’d like to speak with me in person, please make an appointment through the school office.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. I can’t wait to get
started!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Ria Ruiz
