This document provides information about Ms. Grace's special education lifeskills classroom. It introduces Ms. Grace and her objectives for teaching students skills like personal hygiene, manners, money management, safety, time management, and getting a job. 2. About Me My name is Sarah Grace. I graduated from Texas State University in August of 2010 with a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies- All Level Special Education. My passions for learning, teaching and loving has lead me to this road. My purpose as your child’s teacher is for me to lead them in a way that they realize their worth, beauty, abilities and to open their minds to think for themselves, and to ask questions about everything they experience and observe. I want to spark a desire in them to love the world they live in, to love and respect all living forms, to appreciate beauty and wonder, and to set goals and dreams that they will never stop following and reaching for.

The Importance of Leaning Life skills Learning life-skills demonstrates significant increases in young people's educational readiness, engagement in their communities, and their self-confidence and focus on the future. These skills help prepare our children to be prepared to live life as independently and successfully as possible.

6. Classroom Rules Golden Rule! We will all treat and be treated like we would have others treat us, with respect and good manners (includes objects and property). Come to class Prepared with the ‘Tools of the Trade’, (notebooks, HW, papers from parents, smiles, and open minds). Only speak out or leave seat when asked to or given permission, in order to maximize your time and success.  Ask questions! Share Opinions! School is for YOUR benefit … so please participate. Students get to put up one more rule they make themselves that they feel will make the classroom a more comfortable and conducive learning atmosphere.

7. Consequences #1. Warning ‘look’, or glance, perhaps a tap on the shoulder. #2. A verbal warning is issued. #3. A privilege is taken away. #4. Sent to office to call parents. * Some infractions go strait to 4 or skip levels, depending on severity.

8. Absences and Tardiness All absences and tardies are dealt with through the attendance office. 2 tardies equals one unexcused absence. 2 unexcused absence calls for a parent/teacher conference immediately. Repetitive unexcused tardies and/or absences will result in suspension.

9. Homework and Late-work Policies Homework is to be turned in at the beginning of class on Mondays. Subject to change, but not without a note sent home to parents. Late-work is only accepted 2 days after due date, each day with an additional 10% off graded work.

10. Ways to Help Your Child Succeed Let them see you read, and read to them and with them. Visit the library. Teach children to do things for themselves rather than do the work for them. Patience! Every home needs consistent rules children can depend on. Set limits on TV/Video game playing time. Devote a special time and place to do homework with them. Encourage questions and curiosity. Be involved at their school and with their teacher/s.
