This document discusses multilateral training, which involves training youth in multiple sports throughout the year rather than allowing early specialization in a single sport. It aims to develop general motor programs and a strong athletic foundation through activities involving locomotion and other basic skills. Multilateral training was used in Eastern bloc countries to develop productive citizens and saw benefits for sport as well, creating specialized schools that established strong foundations before allowing specialization. The approach reduces risks of burnout and overpeaking at a young age by varying the demands on the body.
