This weekly newsletter from WCUMC provides the church's schedule of events and needs for the week of November 18th, 2012. It encourages the congregation to follow Paul's "Thanks-Living Recipe" of acknowledging leaders, encouraging others, doing good, rejoicing, praying, and giving thanks. The newsletter announces an Advent study series, the Angel Tree gift drive, opportunities to volunteer or donate to local charities, and signups for a new church photo directory. It provides the church's financial snapshot and requests for the prayer chain.
Published monthly, "The Good News" serves as a way to connect with our congregation and the greater Los Angles community. All are welcome, so please feel free to download a copy of the "Good News!"

A375 Example Taste the taste of the Lord, the taste of the Lord The taste of...franktsao4
It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

Sharing the transforming love of Jesus, across the street and around the world.
"Thanks-Living People
Every Day ... Every Moment"
Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work
hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish
you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live
in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn
those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the
weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back
wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other
and for everyone else. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in
all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not
put out the Spirit's fire.
1 Thessalonians 5:12-19
These words in Paul's first letter to believers in Thessalonica contain
what Pastor Rick calls "Paul's Thanks-Living Recipe"
Acknowledge those who work hard among you - support your
church leaders.
Encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with
everyone - we are all called to be a good neighbor
Make sure nobody pays back wrong for wrong - don't hold grudges
Always strive to do what is good for each other and good for
everyone else - love your neighbor
Rejoice always - let the Holy Spirit work within you
Pray continually - always be open to God
Give thanks in all circumstances - thanksgiving is a way of life for
those who are in Christ Jesus
2. Do not put out the Spirit's fire - remember that the fruit of the
Spirit is love, joy, peach, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Popular and beloved author J. Ellsworth Kalas
presents new insight into the biblical story of
Christmas. Kalas approaches the season through
the "back side"--through a unique starting point, a
creative retelling, a new "lens," or the eyes of a minor character.
Kalas’s creative approach both clarifies basic teachings and introduces
new possibilities of meaning, even for those who are most familiar with
the Christmas story.
Enriched with contemporary illustrations and personal experiences, this
volume will provide new perspectives.
J. Ellsworth Kalas is the author of more than thirty-five books. He has
been part of the faculty of Asbury Theological Seminary since 1993,
4. formerly serving as president and now as senior professor of homiletics.
He was a United Methodist pastor for thirty-eight years and also served
five years in evangelism with the World Methodist Council.
Please contact Don Morgan if you would like for us to order a book for
you. Books are $10. dsmorg2@comcast.net or 425-486-5064.
