Words Are Not Enough
A very good morning to everyone present here today. I m Bryan Ong from the Methodist Boys School
of Kuala Lumpur. It is indeed a great honor for me to stand here today to deliver my talk. Before I
begin my talk, may I ask you people to do me a favor? It s pretty simple; just try to view this situation
as though as it s a picture. Tell me, what would you say from it? Exactly! You see a rather decent
looking boy standing here trying to overcome his fear and deliver a talk. And behind me you see the
theme of the talk today words are not enough. Ladies and gentlemen, through merely a picture, such
adequate amount of data can be collected already. Now, try to describe this situation, without a picture,
and only with words. I bet you re ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not everything in fact. As you or I may know, the world is not like the world we used to live in
anymore. Our Mother Earth is dying away. Despite all the talks and articles around the world about
our perishing Mother Earth, little has been done to save the environment. Our Mother Earth can t
speak. She can t put her pain in words. Hence, our Mother Earth expressed her rage towards our
irresponsible acts by bringing catastrophe, hence, the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan that
claimed hundreds of lives. This is a strong message by Mother Earth saying that she s dying already.
And if we don t do anything about it, she ll die. And we ll lose our home. This recent tragedy has
reached practically everyone around the world. And the message is delivered not by words, but by a
horrendous cataclysm. I would very much love to continue to talk about this but apparently this talk
has a time limit. Therefore, like I said, words are not enough. Thank you.

Paul s Dehumanization In All Quiet On The Western Front
In All Quiet on the Western Front, the Great War emotionally destroys Paul through the
dehumanization of the soldiers. Throughout the book, thoughts of his future, desperation for life, and
coping with his actions crushes him psychologically. Therefore Paul gains realization of the reality of
the war; he soon loses everyone he has gained emotional attachment to during the time he serves and
is unable to cope with the loss of all his companions. This disturbs him far more than the physical
wounds in battle.
From the beginning Paul has many doubts about his life after the war. Compared to the older men, he
had no career or love to hopefully reunite with. As he imagines a life away from the violence, he
realizes these boys entered the war before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These boys were motivated by nationalism and false propaganda about the heroic nature of the war. As
they began to understand the uselessness of the soldiers sacrifices, Paul s comrades develop a
bitterness towards the system. Especially after seeing their German leader, they question the
government s intentions. Their innocence was manipulated to benefit political officials with no
consideration for each individual life that is affected by the war.
Psychologically Paul is greatly affected by his experiences in the war and is unable to express his time
there. He has escaped any major injury during the most violent parts of the war. However after all his
companions are killed in duty, he is restless and loses the desire to live. Paul was set free from the
emotional turmoil when he dies; the physical pain no longer affects him. Ironically, he dies on an all
quiet western front after seeing the terror behind the country s nationalism.
Paul escaped serious physical wounds; however, he is completely destroyed by the effects of the war.
After being mercilessly attacked with gas, he sees the brutality and lack of concern for the soldiers
lives. Although he is continuously pressured by authority figures to see the opposing fighter as the
main enemy, Paul understands the problem goes beyond killing other men. The war tears Paul apart
and leaves him scarred by the lack of

The Success Of A Brand New Group
From job interviews to making friends in a brand new group, communication is the forerunner in
determining the success of every connection between two or more people. I ve never taken any classes
focusing on public speaking or other types of communication before, yet my strengths and weaknesses
within it determine the outcome of my daily and professional experiences. In both casual and
professional conversations I am usually very shy I m afraid of what others involved will think of what
I say. To combat this, I ve developed a nasty sense of false confidence. I feign an almost aggressive,
standoffish attitude to assert myself, pushing people away or making them feel uneasy. I ve been doing
this for as long as I can remember; it came from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primarily, I would like to develop ethical communication skills. I admit, I have trouble with empathy
and understanding how others feel. I ve gotten much better in terms of considering others viewpoints,
but I still struggle to take opposing sides seriously or consider their arguments. I tend to focus on hard
facts, forgoing emotion entirely. Because of this, I would like to increase my personal perspective
skills as well as my situational perspective skills (Hunt, Simmons, Simonds, 2013). Since empathy
doesn t necessarily come naturally to me, I have to practice empathetic behavior in my daily life. I
work on putting myself in others shoes, considering their personal perspectives and why they might
feel the way they do. I listen first and foremost by reducing my interruptions and seriously considering
what others say. I use body language to my advantage. For example, if someone else is speaking, I
usually try to engage in very subtle submissive body language while responding nonverbally. If I
agree with what they re saying, I nod. Humans are highly emotional creatures, and as such, little
gestures such as eye contact or nodding matter in communicating empathetically. If I am more
empathetic, then other perspectives that I may not understand will not be so jarring, they will be a
learning experience. In persuasive or debate situations, this will assist me in creating a
counterargument and

He achieved the rescue with a very smart plan and they continue their adventure. Another heroic
action that Bilbo made was when all the dwarves were captured by the Spiders in Mirkwood. He
searched and rescued them. In both occasions he risked his life because he didn´t want to lose his
friends and he couldn’t permit the quest to end like that. The last heroic action that he made was
when he went to the humans’ and elves’ camp to give them the Arkestone, a very important
gem for the dwarves, to permit them deal the peace. He risked his life and betrayed Thorin’s trust
to try to avoid the war between them. Bilbo’s purpose always was for the benefit of everyone and
not for his own benefit, and this, he acted like a most valuable hero. In fact, Bilbo Baggins was one of
the most important heroes of the novel because he sacrificed his life for his friend’s life. He was
very smart and always solved the dwarves’ problems. He never put himself before the welfare of
the others and always had a leader’s attitude. Bilbo Baggins was a hero because he met with the
principal requirements that a hero needed for being recognized. Bibliography: “Hero.”

The Works Of Francisco De Goya
Francisco de Goya was born in 1746 in the village of Fuendetodos in Aragon. He started studying
painting before the age of 14. Goya lived in Spain during the French occupation in 1808 that led to the
Peninsular War of 1808 1814;therefore, the war changed Goya s paints pallet from bright colors to
dark colors. Goya painted the struggle the Spanish people went through. For instance, he painted The
Third of May and The Disaster of The War series. Goya also suffered from a severe and undiagnosed
illness in ,1793, which left him completely deaf. This was another reason leading to his darker
paintings. Also Josefa s death affected Goya s painting, while he was mentally and emotionally
processing the war by painting the Second of May, 1808 and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Goya s painted a man who is about to be shot, men who have just been shot, and line of men who are
about to be shot. Goya makes us see the Spanish people s faces, and their emotions, to make us have
empathy. In the other hand, the solders lined up with their backs toward us leave us with no feeling for
them. Saturn Devouring His Son is another painting by Goya. It was painted from 1819 to 1823.
According to the traditional interpretation, it depicts the Greek myth of the Titan Cronus . Saturn
Devouring His Son is one of Goya s darkest paintings. It was painted directly onto the wall of his
house. The painting is about Saturn, the God of time, who was told that one of his sons will dethrone
him. In order to prevent that Saturn devoured his children as they were born, but Jupiter escaped so
Saturn in the end was dethroned and couldn t escape. This terrifying story is depicted in a horrific way
in this painting. We can see the horror in Saturn s eyes as he pulls his son s arm into his mouth. He is
trying to seek revenge, and tells us that no one can take away what he has. Also Saturn s facial
expression gives us the feeling that Saturn knows that he is not doing the right thing, so he tries to do
it as quickly as possible, he is trying not to listen to his heart, but to listen to his head only. Although
this is his son, he thinks he shouldn t feel sorry for him

Low carbon fuel standards are rapidly becoming an part of the national debate over how to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions. Transport system plays a vital role in the increased greenhouse gases.
Increase in number of vehicles has increased the carbon emission rapidly. A pie chart gives you the
information about the total amount of CO2 emission by different sector in 2010. Electricity, heat
generation and transport system are the three major systems accounted for 63% of total CO2 emission
during the year 2010 (I E A Statistics, 2012).
The potential for increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere cost
of fossil fuels and high demand for non renewable fossil fuels has brought attention to CO2 emission

It was right after lunchtime and Dad was so busy chasing down Sarah that he made a mistake. One
that Mom would never make. He told both of us, If you eat any more chocolate, you ll turn into
chocolate. Not bright, Dad. Mom would have simply taken the chocolate away.
My little brother didn t realize what Dad meant was no more chocolate. But what can you expect from

confusing things, but five year old boys hear only what they want to hear. Or so Mom says.

Fear Of Manipulating A Spinal Injury
Focusing my attention back on the PL, I moved to check the one place unseen and began removing his
helmet. His head was protected, but tilting his chin back was one thing I didn t want to do for fear of
manipulating a spinal injury. It also is what finally exposed and opened the small hole in his throat
from an apparent piece of shrapnel and he began to bleed profusely. I immediately called the medic
away from one of the less seriously wounded to help me with the bleeding. I packed the wound but
loosely, not wanting to interfere with what was left of his airway and then pulled him up to my lap so I
could maintain pressure on the wound. He was still dying. Running out of options, I checked his

Soldiers to pull security, but my biggest problem was that the QRF had not arrived yet. Searching for

directed that the PL be loaded onto the back of the pickup truck with two ambulatory Soldiers who
could pull security on both the surroundings and the driver. I sent the medic to monitor his airway. The

not follow directions. Our Platoon Leader was now conscious and responsive, and I told him where he
was going and why. Less than fifteen minutes after the attack, the PL and his fight for life was on his

Shakespeare uses the act of disguise to create plot development in Twelfth Night.
In Twelfth Night, mistaken identity was used several times to create plot development. Olivia calls a

Disadvantages Of Doing Business In Canada
This report is to analyse the advantages and disadvantages of doing business with Canada. One of the
main disadvantages is that the population is shifting into an overpopulated senior population and the
repercussion of this is the difficulties in pleasing the younger and older generations simultaneously.
Canada is filled with rich recourses beneficial for trade and gives us a competitive advantage, items
such as Oil Sands, Oil and gas, lumber, and water. The public infrastructure in Canada is still a work
in progress, but we strongly excels economically and is estimated that it will surpass the United States

It s the public infrastructure that includes aspects like roads, water, mains, sewers, bridges that allows
people to live out their daily lives and improves Canada s efficiency. The possibility of having a

main example of lack of instruction in a 1st world city consists of one train system; the O Train (that s
just being made) and bus routes that are satisfactory. Ottawa has begun its renovations for the new
transitways but it will possibly take years to complete the final product. The O train scheduled to

otherwise the likely hood of it being done on time will be low. Even though the nation s capital lacks
the public infrastructure, there are many other cities in Canada that has better designed infrastructure

direction of attracting international business given the transitway continues to expand and improve in

Literary Devices In Tanerine
A tangerine is not only a citrus fruit, but also a county in Florida that is home to Paul Fisher and his
older brother Erik. In the novel titled Tangerine by Edward Bloor, Paul Fisher, the protagonist, is not
only bullied at school, but also at home by his brother, while having to live in the house where his dad

Throughout the entire novel, the author s use of literary devices is very clear. These literary devices,

Analysis Of War Of The Roses Lewis
The article War of the Roses by Brenda Ralph Lewis highlights the chain of dynastically civil wars.
The seed of the wars of the roses, the first of England s two civil wars which saw the ruling
Plantagenet family ruin itself in a struggle for the Crown, were planted in the dank dungeons of
Pontefract Castle, Yorkshire, 55 years before the first clash of arms ever took place, Their civil strife
and violence gave rise to the Tudor government.(Lewis 47) These wars were between the House of
York and the House of Lancaster from 1455 to 1485. The names of these wars were allocated several
years after the two conflicting parties had come to an agreement.
The three primary causes of these wars include unsolved conflicts from the Hundred Years War,
societal changes and financial constraints, and dynastic issues. The end of these wars marked the
defeat of the English. Most of its land possessions including Normandy, Maine, and Bordeaux. And
they were lost leaving landowners and mercenaries with nothing to call their own. The triumphant
French wanted to show dominance and power over England. Lord Talbot was sent by Henry to set
Bordeaux free. Although he was successful, Henry neglected his call for reinforcement, giving the
French ample time to triumph in the Battle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outbreak of black plague claimed thousands of lives which in turn negatively affected the labor
force (Lewis 51). This led to severe inflation of agricultural products and labor prices resulting in
reduced production levels giving rise to grave famine. Also, the plague caused a change in social
order; minor landowners took over the land of the dead and instantly became upwardly mobile and
wealthy. The Treasury could not prevent the economic downfall of the country since most of the
finances were consumed by the French Wars making it bankrupt. These two issues gave rise to
numerous conflicts that led to the war (Neillands

How Does Harry Potter Affected Pop Culture
For as long a literature has been around, books have been written that define the culture of a
generation, though some leave lasting changes in pop culture. When the first Harry Potter was
accepted to be published many years ago nobody was prepared for the enormous success the series
would have. The series captured a massive following from the beginning, turning a simple seven book
series into a franchise. Though I may not be an expert on literature, I have read the entire Harry Potter
series multiple times and am a big fan of the book. I have also researched the effect of the books on
pop culture and have come to the conclusion that Harry Potter has embedded itself into pop culture
and changed it in the process.
In 1995 the manuscript of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Children s Book Groups interviewed groups of kids and found that 59% of them believed that reading
Harry Potter gave them better reading skills and 48% of kids said they were reading more because of
the books (How Has the Harry Potter). Due to the fantasy elements and likable characters, the Harry
Potter books have captured the attention of young readers and got them to continue reading beyond
just those books. A study done by Scholastic and Yankelovich in 2006 found that the series has not
only had a positive impact on children s views towards reading but it has also improved the quality of
their school work (Garlick). Reading ability and the ability to satisfactorily complete schoolwork are
dependent upon each other and the impact of the Harry Potter series on the number of kids who have
gotten into reading for fun in a contributor to the improvement in schoolwork. The Kids and Family
Reading Report surveyed 500 children and discovered that more than half of them had not read books
for fun before Harry Potter and 65% said they saw improvement in school after reading (Garlick). The

Emily Bronte Research Paper
The life of Emily Bronte was a depressing and simple life, but no life a child should have to live. She
was born into a poor childhood with many struggles all around her, which left writing as a safe haven
for her. Emily Bronte went through many hard times as a young child, she dealt with poverty, death,
and terrible childhood experiences. Emily Bronte was born on July 30 th , 1818 in Yorkshire, England;
she was the fifth child born out of six, she had 4 sisters (Charlotte, Elizabeth, Maria, and Anne) and a
brother (Patrick). When Emily was just three years old she had to deal with a traumatic experience,

Factors For Improving Nue, Crop Physiological Efficiency...
There are two foremost factors for improving NUE, which are crop physiological efficiency and
agronomic efficiency. The primary goal of plant breeding targeting for NUE is to increase plant N sink
ability, thus the characterization of traits, which connect to NUE improvement, gives breeders good
breeding tools (Cormier et al., 2013). On the other hand, agronomic efficiency as soil ability to
maintain and supply N (i.e. N source) could be improved by fertilizer and field management
techniques. Improvement of single crop ability or cultivation technique could not bring an ideal result
on NUE due to the complexity of N dynamics which is governed by both plant and agricultural
regimes (Fraisier et al., 2000; Pathak et al., 2008). In fact, several NUE studies emphasize the
importance of synchrony of N supply from fertilizer, pedosphere and environment, to plant N demand
(Sandhu et al., 2000; Cassman et al., 2002; Grant et al., 2002; Shanahan, et al., 2008). As agricultural
management mainly responsible for N supply as N source, and plant N sink ability is the plant
physiological property, which is genetically controlled. Therefore, integrated effort and improvement
in breeding and agricultural management is necessary to ensure better NUE. The physiological source
sink relationship within a single plant (i.e. assimilation, translocation and remobilization) has already
been discussed elsewhere in this paper; therefore, the source and sink only refers to N source in
pedosphere , and

Coca Cola: Corporate Strategies and What Affects Decisions
Does Coca Cola allow various factors to influence the decision making process? There are different
strategy levels striving to meet or exceed overall corporate strategies within Coca Cola. This essay
will discuss functional, stability, competitive versus cooperative, trade offs, and retrenchment
strategies. It will also provide examples or advantages and disadvantages the company utilizes at a
corporate strategic management for tailor logical portfolio decision changes when warranted. Leading
off with the first topic of this discussion, what is a functional strategy and can it affect decision
making?
First, functional level strategies appear in specific tasks or operations within several departments such
as human resources operations, and finance providing valuable input in line with higher corporate
level strategies (Bradley, n.d.). For Coca Cola, there are other functional departments to include, for
example, a research and development (R D) and marketing. The daily operations at this level of
strategic planning can influence the decision making process by promoting changes or by keeping up
with the status quo procedures to gauge other possible departmental findings. Within Coca Cola, there
are advantages and disadvantages incorporating stability strategies. Next, what are stability strategies

Thirteen Reasons Why Analysis
Preserving Intellectual Freedom The American Library Association states that the most challenged and
restricted reading material have been children books. However, challenges are not merely an
expression of a point of view; on the contrary, it is an attempt to remove materials from public use,
thus restricting the access to others. Even if the motivation to ban or challenge a book is well intended,
the outcome is unfair for everyone else. Censorship denies our freedom as individuals to choose and
think for ourselves. For children, decisions about what books to read should only be made by the
people who know them best their parents! (Letter to the Editor). I strongly disagree when people want
books banned based on their own opinion of the book. The novel in question, Thirteen Reasons Why
by Jay Asher, is no exception to frequent challenges. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a privilege that we all have in the United States and it should not be taken lightly. Parents should
understand that they have a right to decide what their child reads, but they should not take away that
same right from other parents. The attempt to expose students to challenging topics and issues is not
intended to force students into a certain mode of thought. Books serve as opportunities for students to
think, theorize, question, and explore those topics in a controlled environment directed by teachers,
parents, and experts and even though the book contains some sensitive material the lessons learned are
far superior to the controversial material presented in Thirteen Reasons Why. Great lessons are not just
learned in real life; we can learn them in books as well. Give the book an honest try and do not be

After you have read enough of Strunk White to feel somewhat confident (or even frustrated) by the
rules that you already knew or forgot, examine Style by Joseph M. Williams. Mr. Williams is a
professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Chicago. You may have already encountered
another book published by the University on the subject. Fear not; Williams book is not an immense
conundrum of rules in the same vein as The Chicago Manual of Style. I prefer to think of it as a
response to Strunk White; Williams will address many of the same rules of writing from a refreshingly
unique viewpoint. Some readers may find his work incredibly dull and prefer The Elements of Style
for its short and simple guidelines. Or you may find yourself enjoying a newfound sense of freedom
from the rather liberal suggestion of Williams that some rules are, in fact, meant to be broken. If you
are of an analytical or logical frame of mind you may enjoy the many diagrams and trees he created as
examples of his statements. If you do not fit into this group, do not let these examples get in the way
of the underlying message. Writing, Williams appears to suggest, is not about rules and

Summary Of RabelaisGargantua And Pantagruen
In Rabelais Gargantua and Pantagruel, his character Friar John seems, in a sense, the embodiment of
many of the controversial ideas presented in the book. Rabelais was a monk, but he was also a writer,
a physician, and a scholar whose interests and studies ranged widely, and his characters and ideas
often seem more humanist and innovative and sometimes even shocking than pious and orthodox.
Humanism emphasizes man s inherent goodness, as well as a positive outlook on human potential,
worth, and ability. This puts it at odds with fundamental Catholic doctrines such as original sin, the
Fall, and the resulting necessity for a savior. However, despite Rabelais interest in humanist ideas he
was never led to renounce Catholicism and remained a Catholic for his entire life. Friar John is
perhaps a representation of Rabelais himself: a Catholic monk who rejects the austerity of monastic
life while embracing a practical, down to earth approach to religion. How exactly does the character of
Friar John represent Rabelais philosophy, a unique synthesis of humanism and Catholicism? In this
paper I will give a few examples that illustrate.
First of all, Friar John s personality reflects Rabelais writing style: effortlessly combining the sacred
and profane. He is bawdy and unrefined, but also good hearted and highly sincere. During a
conversation with Grangousier in chapter 40, Friar John reveals that he believes in and respects God
very much, but he has no use for the kind of

The Social Aspects Of Health And Diseases
#2. Every person is shaped by his/her life experiences and life history. As a result, one s social, and in
this context, medical, situation is highly contingent on the different life experiences a patient has been
exposed to. As C. Wright Mills coined the term, Sociological Imagination, MD students today should
abide by his sentiment in placing the individual self apart from the typical and habitual patterns in a
given society. One must step out of his/her own bubble to see the world for greater than what they are
constrained to. The MD students should be able to value the importance placed on the social aspects
of health and diseases, for it is true that what is considered an illness in one society, may be seen as a
blessing in another. One must value the patient s perspectives according to their life history. It all
comes down to context. For example, today s modern world is so technologically advanced that one
may be able to go online WebMD to evaluate his/her symptoms to help them better understand the
body s deficits. However, in a different context, perhaps 200 years ago, the individual might not have
had all the resources available to him/her and this might have impacted the individual s health
outcomes. Time is not the only cue to context. When looking at different parts of the world, even
within the same country or state, people s lives differ in many sorts of ways. Perhaps a child of a low
income family needing to work in unstable work environment, while the

Examples Of Mistreatment And Inequality In The 13th Amendment
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall
have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States (Lantigua Williams). As stated in the
constitution, the Thirteenth amendment states that no person can be treated as a slave; the exception to
this statement is the fact that the revision to the constitution says that anyone who is convicted of a
crime can be treated like a slave. African Americans have been oppressed since they were brought
over from Africa; consequently, they are constantly fighting the war on racism and having numerous
struggles to overcome. The 13th shows in detail the different forms of mistreatment and inequality that
people of color experience. Ava Duverney uses exceptional historical evidence, different forms of
media, and expert advice to show that ever since the passage of the Thirteenth amendment, there has
been an increase in the incarceration statistics of African Americans. Ironically, the United States is
commonly called the land of the free, but five out of twenty five percent of the world s population is
incarcerated in the American prison system (Filmmaker). Duverney s main topic that she focuses on in
her film is the loophole that was present in the Thirteenth amendment. To avoid a public display of
slavery, the police force arrested people, particularly African American men, based on false
accusations or for minor offenses. On April 19, 1989, three teenagers were accused

techniques the first is brainstorming which involves staff putting forward their ideas regarding the
skills and knowledge that they think are appropriate and required; the second technique is called Meta

Developing the training plan is the third element of training and development. For a training and

Empathy in Brecht s The Good Person of Szechwan and...
Little Empathy in Brecht s The Good Person of Szechwan and Mother Courage and Her Children
Brecht is very successful in creating a form of drama where empathy plays little part. In The Good
Person of Szechwan it would seem that every action and word is an attempt to alienate us and halt any
identification one may chance to make. The indiscernible use of names for characters exaggerating the
oriental sound of them is immediately noticeable i.e. Wang , Shin Sun , Shen Te , Shu Ta , etc. There is
also the use of language and intonation in relation to others revealing personality and social position,
which comes in the form of oriental bows . Many of these gestures are already to be found in Asian
theatre. Brecht calls it the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think the prologue is one of many alienating devices Brecht uses to distance one from any empathy.
Within minutes of the play beginning one is alerted by Wang s (the water seller s) narration to the
current state of Szechwan in which utter poverty is the rule . By telling a story Brecht introduces Epic
Theatre. Undoubtedly this is going to appeal to one s intellect rather than one s emotions. Wang s
survival is dependent upon the weather. Whether he can eat or not is dependant on drought and the
discomforts of others. In his opening speech one becomes aware of a society based largely upon
buying and selling; in Shen Te s case the selling of her body. We the audience or spectators as Brecht
would like to think of us are not surprisingly going to question a society where this is the norm. I think
this is where another dimension to the play is brought in as Wang tells us only the gods can help
(which after seeing the play it is dependent on one s viewpoint what this dimension is.) It could be one
of many things. It could be divinity or spirituality. On the other hand it could be humanity or perhaps
naiveté of the worst sort. So in questioning these actions one is doing precisely what Brecht hopes for.
Given the average audience (especially at the time when Brecht wrote this; it was not such a multi
cultural/religious society as we have today) one would probably have some kind of Christian

The speaker the many of Spring and All is a man from an older generation. This can be verified in
lines 5 6 and 12 13, where it states, muddy fields/ brown with dried weeds/ dead, brown leaves/
leafless vines . Many see this poem s speaker as an older man because he uses a small vocabulary
when describing the dead, brown leaves in line 12. In line 1 2 it implies By the road to the contagious
hospital/ under the surge of the blue . So in line two when it states under the surge of the blue in many
people s eyes it looks like the poem is meant for an older generation because of the vast vocabulary
the speaker uses. In the same poem Spring and All the attitude toward the subject of the poem that the
speaker conveys is rough as they explain how the outside looks cold and uncertain before spring
enters the new world. Evidence of this is in lines 16 19 where it says They enter the new world naked,/
cold, uncertain of all/ save that they enter. All about them/ the cold familiar wind . Many people would
also say that the author wrote this poem to explain what spring looks like when approaching and how
it looks like a disaster before spring blooms into the new world. In lines 24 27 it shows how the birth
of spring looks like a disaster by stating But now the stark dignity of/ entrance still, the profound/ has

Comparing Kenny And Byron
Kenny and Byron are both very similar and different. They have similarities like being able to tease
people and also like feeling sorry for things and people. They re also very different as well. Byron
often tries to act cool and tries to not show any emotion. Kenny on the other hand, tends to show his
emotion freely. Byron also doesn t do very well in school, unlike Kenny who seems to thrive in
school. Kenny could easily be described as inspired. Kenny displays this with his interaction with
other characters. For example, he went to talk with his father in the bathroom when his dad was
shaving. At that moment Kenny had said that he was also growing mustache. I believe that this is
because Kenny looks up to his father and wants to be like him. Another example would be ... Show

Byron shows this characteristic as he interacts with other characters in the story. For example, Byron
eventually throws a Swedish Creme cookie at a bird which ends up killing it. He gets extremely upset
with himself from this event. That is shown because of him throwing up, crying, and then having a
funeral for the bird. Then in many other experiences Byron carelessly beats up kids not feeling bad
afterwards whatsoever. This shows that he is ambivalent because he has mixed feelings about injury
and death. He carelessly beats up kids but then when it comes to killing a bird he has a huge
breakdown. Another example would be his feelings and action towards Kenny. Sometimes he will be
nice and brotherlike with Kenny, but then other times he turns around and then ends up beating up
Kenny. When Kenny goes to Byron s class and reads after school Byron in a way congratulates
Kenny. Then in other instances like How to survive a blizzard Byron seems to be a completely
different person and causes harm to Kenny with his friend Buphead. This also shows that he is
ambivalent because he treats Kenny nicely one second and then the next second he s teasing or beating

religious philosophy that find echo in the fatalistic suppositions of Hinduism. With minimal impact to
change the state of the nation, the barriers that come in the way of the free flow of information need to
be tackled with more alacrity and awareness, lest the growth gets sucked into the vortex of its own
limitations. The advertisement driven consumerist mooring that is propelling the flawed Indian info
age communication story seems to be a pointer in this direction.

Importance of Slavery to the Caribbean Essay
Importance of Slavery to the Caribbean
The significance of the role played by slaves in the history of the Caribbean cannot be
overemphasized. Nearly everything that defines the Caribbean today can be traced back to the advent
of Africans to the sugar plantations several centuries ago. For this reason it is impossible to ignore the
issue of slavery when studying the history of the Caribbean, as we are doing in this class. Through our
numerous readings on the status of slaves and their treatment by the societies in which they lived, we
have learned much about the sufferings and ordeals of these people. The following is an attempt to
organize my own particular feelings and reactions, which I have previously posted on line throughout

They were constantly being tested and lived very tough lives. Only the strongest survived, as they
were forced to live completely independently of colonial communities and thus had to fend for
themselves. They were also hampered by their lack of women in the early stages, and it was not
uncommon for a group of Maroons to raid another village in search of more women. The Buccaneers,
on the other hand, did not have as many such problems, though they did not exactly have it easy
either. They were more or less social bandits and gained international fame for their attacks on the
Spanish and Spanish possessions. This was a huge help to the French and English, who did not have
the power to do this themselves but were subsequently better able to establish colonies of their own in
the New World. The main difference between the Buccaneers and the Maroons is that while the former
clung to the European culture and society with which they were familiar, the latter attempted to create
their own.
The transition to sugar plantations in Puerto Rico came a bit later, while Cuba experienced this change
a few years earlier. There are a few reasons why this is so, given that both islands were closely ruled
by Spain. One of the main reasons given is ...the rate of prior capital accumulation and the attendant
existence (or lack) of a capital reserve to invest in sugar once the demand arose. (Beckles and
Shepherd, 1991, p. 58) For Cuba, the capital reserve

Accounting professionals do important responsibilities beyond preparing financial statements. In a
more critical role, they help managers interpret the statements by comparing data about the firm s
current activities to those for previous periods and to results posted by other companies in the industry.
Fraud, by its very nature, is hidden in the accounting systems of organizations and therefore a forensic
accountant is usually required to unravel the transaction history and reveal what has actually occurred.
As part of this, the forensic accountant is often called upon to quantify the value of the loss
experienced by an organization or individual. Any lost funds are traced from bank account to bank
account to identify where the money( or assets ) being overstated by false accounting in the financial
statements and records. The forensic accountant s role is therefore to understand the accounting
records and show the true nature of the transactions being recorded. Similarly, forensic accountants
are a key part in the investigation

The Tiananmen Square Protests Of 1989
Colin Mok Did the Tiananmen Square Protests of 1989 Lead to More Democracy in China? The
Tiananmen Square Protests, otherwise known as the June Fourth incident, was a series of student led
protests and demonstrations in Beijing, China during the spring of 1989. The protests were driven by
goals to eliminate corruption within the Communist Party and promote democratic ideals such as
freedom of speech, freedom of press and social equality. At the height of the protest from June 3 4,
hundreds of thousands of students gathered around Tiananmen Square to protest, prompting military
mobilization and resulting in unprecedented bloodshed. Though deemed by the Chinese government
as a counter revolutionary act, the Tiananmen Square Protest remains an important event in shaping
the political and social state of China today. Not only was the the protest instrumental in exposing the
deep division within China s political leadership, it also revealed that the future of China, comprised
of students and intellectuals, was striving for a more democratic nation. With that being said, a highly
debated question remains as to whether the Tiananmen Square Protest has led to more democracy in
China, and how the event has influenced China s political progress. On the contrary, the protest had a
rather paradoxical impact on China s regime. Rather than ending the rigid regime in place and
bringing rise to democracy, Tiananmen led to the strengthening of the Communist party. The protests
resulted

Electrospinning Essay
Electrospinning is a convenient method for fabricating various nanofibrous scaffolds for biomedical
applications. In electrospinning process, a conductive collector device plays a critical role in
determining the shape and the structure of the nanofibrous scaffold; however, the preparation of the
collector is often complex. In this study, a novel, flexible, and inexpensive approach based on pencil
on paper method was developed for preparing collectors used in electrospinning. Graphite is a
conductive material widely used as a component in the pencil core. A series of collectors were
prepared through drawing different patterns on folded and unfolded paper using a pencil, followed by
successfully fabricating two dimensional (2D) nanofibrous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We believe that the method developed in this study would provide a convenient approach to fabricate
complex collectors for producing ordered 2D or 3D nanofibrous structures.
2. Materials and methods
2.1. Electrospinning
The collector was fabricated using a common 5B pencil and A4 paper. Paper was tailored to suitable
size, and different patterns were drawn using a pencil. Subsequently, the paper was folded in different
shapes as collectors. Poly (ε caprolactone) (PCL, MW = 60,000) was dissolved in
dichloromethane/ethanol (v:v =3:1) to form a homogeneous solution with a concentration of 15 wt%,
and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP, MW = 1,300,000) was dissolved in ethanol at a concentration of 8
wt%. After that, the solution was transferred to a syringe fastened on an infusion pump. The solution
was pumped at a rate of 0.5 mL/h. 8 kV voltage was applied between the needle and the collecter
placed 10 cm away to form an electrospinning jet. The collectors and fibers were observed using a
camera (Nikon, Japan) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (JSM 7011F, Japan).
2.2. Cell experiment
Murine calvarial preosteoblasts (MC3T3 E1) were selected as the model cell to evaluate the
cytotoxicity of the electrospun fibers. The nanofibrous membranes and films after sterilization under
UV radiation were cut into small pieces, placed in a cell culture plate, and soaked in the culture
medium (DMEM/F 12

  • 2. Words Are Not Enough A very good morning to everyone present here today. I m Bryan Ong from the Methodist Boys School of Kuala Lumpur. It is indeed a great honor for me to stand here today to deliver my talk. Before I begin my talk, may I ask you people to do me a favor? It s pretty simple; just try to view this situation as though as it s a picture. Tell me, what would you say from it? Exactly! You see a rather decent looking boy standing here trying to overcome his fear and deliver a talk. And behind me you see the theme of the talk today words are not enough. Ladies and gentlemen, through merely a picture, such adequate amount of data can be collected already. Now, try to describe this situation, without a picture, and only with words. I bet you re ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not everything in fact. As you or I may know, the world is not like the world we used to live in anymore. Our Mother Earth is dying away. Despite all the talks and articles around the world about our perishing Mother Earth, little has been done to save the environment. Our Mother Earth can t speak. She can t put her pain in words. Hence, our Mother Earth expressed her rage towards our irresponsible acts by bringing catastrophe, hence, the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan that claimed hundreds of lives. This is a strong message by Mother Earth saying that she s dying already. And if we don t do anything about it, she ll die. And we ll lose our home. This recent tragedy has reached practically everyone around the world. And the message is delivered not by words, but by a horrendous cataclysm. I would very much love to continue to talk about this but apparently this talk has a time limit. Therefore, like I said, words are not enough. Thank you. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Paul s Dehumanization In All Quiet On The Western Front In All Quiet on the Western Front, the Great War emotionally destroys Paul through the dehumanization of the soldiers. Throughout the book, thoughts of his future, desperation for life, and coping with his actions crushes him psychologically. Therefore Paul gains realization of the reality of the war; he soon loses everyone he has gained emotional attachment to during the time he serves and is unable to cope with the loss of all his companions. This disturbs him far more than the physical wounds in battle. From the beginning Paul has many doubts about his life after the war. Compared to the older men, he had no career or love to hopefully reunite with. As he imagines a life away from the violence, he realizes these boys entered the war before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These boys were motivated by nationalism and false propaganda about the heroic nature of the war. As they began to understand the uselessness of the soldiers sacrifices, Paul s comrades develop a bitterness towards the system. Especially after seeing their German leader, they question the government s intentions. Their innocence was manipulated to benefit political officials with no consideration for each individual life that is affected by the war. Psychologically Paul is greatly affected by his experiences in the war and is unable to express his time there. He has escaped any major injury during the most violent parts of the war. However after all his companions are killed in duty, he is restless and loses the desire to live. Paul was set free from the emotional turmoil when he dies; the physical pain no longer affects him. Ironically, he dies on an all quiet western front after seeing the terror behind the country s nationalism. Paul escaped serious physical wounds; however, he is completely destroyed by the effects of the war. After being mercilessly attacked with gas, he sees the brutality and lack of concern for the soldiers lives. Although he is continuously pressured by authority figures to see the opposing fighter as the main enemy, Paul understands the problem goes beyond killing other men. The Success Of A Brand New Group From job interviews to making friends in a brand new group, communication is the forerunner in determining the success of every connection between two or more people. I ve never taken any classes focusing on public speaking or other types of communication before, yet my strengths and weaknesses within it determine the outcome of my daily and professional experiences. In both casual and professional conversations I am usually very shy I m afraid of what others involved will think of what I say. To combat this, I ve developed a nasty sense of false confidence. I ve gotten much better in terms of considering others viewpoints, but I still struggle to take opposing sides seriously or consider their arguments. I tend to focus on hard facts, forgoing emotion entirely. Because of this, I would like to increase my personal perspective skills as well as my situational perspective skills (Hunt, Simmons, Simonds, 2013). Since empathy doesn t necessarily come naturally to me, I have to practice empathetic behavior in my daily life. I work on putting myself in others shoes, considering their personal perspectives and why they might feel the way they do. I listen first and foremost by reducing my interruptions and seriously considering what others say. I use body language to my advantage. For example, if someone else is speaking, I usually try to engage in very subtle submissive body language while responding nonverbally. If I agree with what they re saying, I nod. Humans are highly emotional creatures, and as such, little gestures such as eye contact or nodding matter in communicating empathetically. If I am more empathetic, then other perspectives that I may not understand will not be so jarring, they will be a learning experience. Goya lived in Spain during the French occupation in 1808 that led to the Peninsular War of 1808 1814;therefore, the war changed Goya s paints pallet from bright colors to dark colors. Goya painted the struggle the Spanish people went through. For instance, he painted The Third of May and The Disaster of The War series. Goya also suffered from a severe and undiagnosed illness in ,1793, which left him completely deaf. This was another reason leading to his darker paintings. Saturn Devouring His Son is one of Goya s darkest paintings. It was painted directly onto the wall of his house. The painting is about Saturn, the God of time, who was told that one of his sons will dethrone him. In order to prevent that Saturn devoured his children as they were born, but Jupiter escaped so Saturn in the end was dethroned and couldn t escape. This terrifying story is depicted in a horrific way in this painting. We can see the horror in Saturn s eyes as he pulls his son s arm into his mouth. He is trying to seek revenge, and tells us that no one can take away what he has. Also Saturn s facial expression gives us the feeling that Saturn knows that he is not doing the right thing, so he tries to do it as quickly as possible, he is trying not to listen to his heart, but to listen to his head only. The seed of the wars of the roses, the first of England s two civil wars which saw the ruling Plantagenet family ruin itself in a struggle for the Crown, were planted in the dank dungeons of Pontefract Castle, Yorkshire, 55 years before the first clash of arms ever took place, Their civil strife and violence gave rise to the Tudor government.(Lewis 47) These wars were between the House of York and the House of Lancaster from 1455 to 1485. The names of these wars were allocated several years after the two conflicting parties had come to an agreement. The three primary causes of these wars include unsolved conflicts from the Hundred Years War, societal changes and financial constraints, and dynastic issues. The end of these wars marked the defeat of the English. Most of its land possessions including Normandy, Maine, and Bordeaux. • 21. Factors For Improving Nue, Crop Physiological Efficiency... There are two foremost factors for improving NUE, which are crop physiological efficiency and agronomic efficiency. The primary goal of plant breeding targeting for NUE is to increase plant N sink ability, thus the characterization of traits, which connect to NUE improvement, gives breeders good breeding tools (Cormier et al., 2013). On the other hand, agronomic efficiency as soil ability to maintain and supply N (i.e. N source) could be improved by fertilizer and field management techniques. Improvement of single crop ability or cultivation technique could not bring an ideal result on NUE due to the complexity of N dynamics which is governed by both plant and agricultural regimes (Fraisier et al., 2000; Pathak et al., 2008). In fact, several NUE studies emphasize the importance of synchrony of N supply from fertilizer, pedosphere and environment, to plant N demand (Sandhu et al., 2000; Cassman et al., 2002; Grant et al., 2002; Shanahan, et al., 2008). As agricultural management mainly responsible for N supply as N source, and plant N sink ability is the plant physiological property, which is genetically controlled. Therefore, integrated effort and improvement in breeding and agricultural management is necessary to ensure better NUE. The physiological source sink relationship within a single plant (i.e. assimilation, translocation and remobilization) has already been discussed elsewhere in this paper; therefore, the source and sink only refers to N source in pedosphere , and ... Coca Cola Decision Making Process Coca Cola: Corporate Strategies and What Affects Decisions Laquisha Highsmith Columbia Southern University Coca Cola: Corporate Strategies and What Affects Decisions Does Coca Cola allow various factors to influence the decision making process? There are different strategy levels striving to meet or exceed overall corporate strategies within Coca Cola. This essay will discuss functional, stability, competitive versus cooperative, trade offs, and retrenchment strategies. It will also provide examples or advantages and disadvantages the company utilizes at a corporate strategic management for tailor logical portfolio decision changes when warranted. Leading off with the first topic of this discussion, what is a functional strategy and can it affect decision making? First, functional level strategies appear in specific tasks or operations within several departments such as human resources operations, and finance providing valuable input in line with higher corporate level strategies (Bradley, n.d.). For Coca Cola, there are other functional departments to include, for example, a research and development (R D) and marketing. However, challenges are not merely an expression of a point of view; on the contrary, it is an attempt to remove materials from public use, thus restricting the access to others. Even if the motivation to ban or challenge a book is well intended, the outcome is unfair for everyone else. Censorship denies our freedom as individuals to choose and think for ourselves. For children, decisions about what books to read should only be made by the people who know them best their parents! (Letter to the Editor). I strongly disagree when people want books banned based on their own opinion of the book. The novel in question, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, is no exception to frequent challenges. ... Books serve as opportunities for students to think, theorize, question, and explore those topics in a controlled environment directed by teachers, parents, and experts and even though the book contains some sensitive material the lessons learned are far superior to the controversial material presented in Thirteen Reasons Why. Great lessons are not just learned in real life; we can learn them in books as well. Mr. Williams is a professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Chicago. You may have already encountered another book published by the University on the subject. Fear not; Williams book is not an immense conundrum of rules in the same vein as The Chicago Manual of Style. I prefer to think of it as a response to Strunk White; Williams will address many of the same rules of writing from a refreshingly unique viewpoint. Some readers may find his work incredibly dull and prefer The Elements of Style for its short and simple guidelines. Or you may find yourself enjoying a newfound sense of freedom from the rather liberal suggestion of Williams that some rules are, in fact, meant to be broken. If you are of an analytical or logical frame of mind you may enjoy the many diagrams and trees he created as examples of his statements. • 26. Summary Of RabelaisGargantua And Pantagruen In Rabelais Gargantua and Pantagruel, his character Friar John seems, in a sense, the embodiment of many of the controversial ideas presented in the book. Rabelais was a monk, but he was also a writer, a physician, and a scholar whose interests and studies ranged widely, and his characters and ideas often seem more humanist and innovative and sometimes even shocking than pious and orthodox. Humanism emphasizes man s inherent goodness, as well as a positive outlook on human potential, worth, and ability. This puts it at odds with fundamental Catholic doctrines such as original sin, the Fall, and the resulting necessity for a savior. However, despite Rabelais interest in humanist ideas he was never led to renounce Catholicism and remained a Catholic for his entire life. Friar John is perhaps a representation of Rabelais himself: a Catholic monk who rejects the austerity of monastic life while embracing a practical, down to earth approach to religion. How exactly does the character of Friar John represent Rabelais philosophy, a unique synthesis of humanism and Catholicism? In this paper I will give a few examples that illustrate. First of all, Friar John s personality reflects Rabelais writing style: effortlessly combining the sacred and profane. He is bawdy and unrefined, but also good hearted and highly sincere. During a conversation with Grangousier in chapter 40, Friar John reveals that he believes in and respects God very much, but he has no use for the kind of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, one s social, and in this context, medical, situation is highly contingent on the different life experiences a patient has been exposed to. As C. Wright Mills coined the term, Sociological Imagination, MD students today should abide by his sentiment in placing the individual self apart from the typical and habitual patterns in a given society. One must step out of his/her own bubble to see the world for greater than what they are constrained to. The MD students should be able to value the importance placed on the social aspects of health and diseases, for it is true that what is considered an illness in one society, may be seen as a blessing in another. One must value the patient s perspectives according to their life history. It all comes down to context. For example, today s modern world is so technologically advanced that one may be able to go online WebMD to evaluate his/her symptoms to help them better understand the body s deficits. However, in a different context, perhaps 200 years ago, the individual might not have had all the resources available to him/her and this might have impacted the individual s health outcomes. As stated in the constitution, the Thirteenth amendment states that no person can be treated as a slave; the exception to this statement is the fact that the revision to the constitution says that anyone who is convicted of a crime can be treated like a slave. African Americans have been oppressed since they were brought over from Africa; consequently, they are constantly fighting the war on racism and having numerous struggles to overcome. The 13th shows in detail the different forms of mistreatment and inequality that people of color experience. Ava Duverney uses exceptional historical evidence, different forms of media, and expert advice to show that ever since the passage of the Thirteenth amendment, there has been an increase in the incarceration statistics of African Americans. Ironically, the United States is commonly called the land of the free, but five out of twenty five percent of the world s population is incarcerated in the American prison system (Filmmaker). Duverney s main topic that she focuses on in her film is the loophole that was present in the Thirteenth amendment. Little Empathy in Brecht s The Good Person of Szechwan and Mother Courage and Her Children Brecht is very successful in creating a form of drama where empathy plays little part. In The Good Person of Szechwan it would seem that every action and word is an attempt to alienate us and halt any identification one may chance to make. The indiscernible use of names for characters exaggerating the oriental sound of them is immediately noticeable i.e. Wang , Shin Sun , Shen Te , Shu Ta , etc. There is also the use of language and intonation in relation to others revealing personality and social position, which comes in the form of oriental bows . Many of these gestures are already to be found in Asian theatre. Brecht calls it the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think the prologue is one of many alienating devices Brecht uses to distance one from any empathy. Within minutes of the play beginning one is alerted by Wang s (the water seller s) narration to the current state of Szechwan in which utter poverty is the rule . By telling a story Brecht introduces Epic Theatre. Undoubtedly this is going to appeal to one s intellect rather than one s emotions. Wang s survival is dependent upon the weather. Whether he can eat or not is dependant on drought and the discomforts of others. In his opening speech one becomes aware of a society based largely upon buying and selling; in Shen Te s case the selling of her body. We the audience or spectators as Brecht would like to think of us are not surprisingly going to question a society where this is the norm. I think this is where another dimension to the play is brought in as Wang tells us only the gods can help (which after seeing the play it is dependent on one s viewpoint what this dimension is.) It could be one of many things. It could be divinity or spirituality. On the other hand it could be humanity or perhaps naiveté of the worst sort. So in questioning these actions one is doing precisely what Brecht hopes for. Given the average audience (especially at the time when Brecht wrote this; it was not such a multi cultural/religious society as we have today) one would probably have some kind of Christian ...
