Intrapersonal Conflict
Intrapersonal conflict reveals itself through different individual attitudes and behaviours. Most of these attitudes and behaviours may originate from
self–induced, emotional or inner feelings which may include frustration and emotional instability. These attitudes or behaviours may lead to
absenteeism and destructive behaviour among individuals in an organization (Hughes, 2001). Poor attitudes and behaviours which result from
intrapersonal conflict usually decrease the performance and efficiency of an organization. On the other hand when it is managed in the right manner it
helps individuals promote capacity to adapt and attain a balance in the working relations with the organization.
The management of intrapersonal conflicts can be achieved through the implementation of two strategies which include cognitive strategies and
behavioural strategies. Cognitive strategies, often referred to as defence mechanisms, help an individual to falsify, distort or deny a particular conflict.
Cognitive strategies represent an attempt to control or manage negative and disturbing feelings associated with conflict and to allow an individual to
carry on with his normal activities. Cognitive strategies include repression (an attempt to push conflict out of existence), rationalization (hiding the
truth from oneself), fantasy or even denial of reality....show more content...
An administrator should know when he is faced with interdepartmental conflict and be informed of the processes for coping with it or resolving it.
When it comes to the management of interdepartmental conflicts, methods such as conflict avoidance , regulating a conflict by introducing new rules
and procedures, seeking a form of "legalistic" solution, using departmental representatives to reach a compromise agreement or seeking mediation or
arbitration from an outside body are

Personal Conflict Strategies
Conflict management are types of strategies to help people through arguments with anyone. This has affected my life by helping me getting through
arguments with my friends, family or really anyone who I come in conflict with. The one technique, AMPP, has helped me a lot because sometimes
me and my friends argue and they do not tell me what I did wrong, so I use that technique to help us resolve our problem.
One time I started texting my friend and she would not reply to me at first, so I kept texting back and asking her why she wasn't answering, and she
finally replied back that I did something and she does not want to talk to me. Usually when we get into fights, we just joke around, but this time I
could tell she was serious and I did not know why she was mad and she would not tell me why.
While I was thinking of what to say or ask her, the subject of psychology came to my mind and I thought I could use helpful strategies to get me
through this. So I remembered AMPP; ask, mirror, paraphrase and prime. AMPP is a powerful strategy skill that helps build up safety to encourage
others to share what they are feeling. I suddenly thought, this would be a perfect time to use this skill to see if it actually works in a real–life experience.

Since she did not tell me why, I used mirroring to state how she was feeling back to her, and I said, "you seem to be very angry at me", which was
kind of a given, but I needed more information as to why she was mad. Next, I could not really use paraphrasing because she had not told me any
reason for why she was mad, so I had to jump to prime, which is the last technique to use only if nothing else worked. So finally, I asked her if she
was mad at me for the reason I thought she was mad at me for (which I do not need to mention), but I was not sure, and I did not want to just ask her
that

Dealing With Conflict Essay
Dealing with Conflict
1.1
 Potential conflict can arise when two parties or people have a disagreement on a particular subject. For example, a person may have
said he was going to complete a task which he failed to do which caused conflict with another person or party, or maybe two people who have
different ideas on who to accomplish a task may become heated.
 Stages of conflict are hard to describe in detail but it usually starts with raised voices to get an opinion across which can escalate into a
yelling match as one person tries to get the other person or party to agree with what he is saying. Basically conflict will stop when both parties or people
agree on something, as conflict won't usually end if there...show more content...
This person is able to hear both sides of the argument and therefore able to outline options on how to handle the situation.
3.1 – Factors Effecting Timing & Environment For Communication
Care should be taken in communicating with other in the workplace. Factors such as anger and stress could be dangerous when communicating, as
people are often very temperamental when affected by these factors. Another factor could be the environment, such as a meeting, could hinder
communication as reputations and even jobs could be at stake if in appropriate communication is used. Basically, there is a time and a place for all
various types of communication and care should be taken when talking to our peers and our bosses.
3.2 – Effective Non–Verbal and Verbal Communication
Body Language – This is important as people usually take note of how a person acts and moves. For example, if a person sometimes scratches their
nose when speaking, it could mean to other people that he is trying to cover something up.
Questioning – Never be afraid to question a person for the sake of your own better understanding of a subject. It is different when questioning a
person's ability or understanding of a subject, which could result in conflict.
Language Style – People in work environments need to be able to understand everyone clearly, so correct language and vocabulary needs to be used in
communicating with other

Personal Narrative On Social Conflict
Personal Narrative: Social Conflict
It would have been easy to resolve had either one of us wanted to end the squabble. Looking back, it is unbelievable to me that I acted the way I did.
Again and again the situation runs through my mind, unveiling new ends to the argument. It was a perfect example of similar scenes playing
themselves out all over the world – the most basic level of social conflict we have, the easiest to resolve.
I'd challenge anyone to speak out if he or she has not argued over trivial matters with his or her loved ones and closest friends. These relationships
cannot be broken, just like a coastline never really disappears, even though both are subject to terrible pressures. I had been studying for the past...show

People with whom we share mutual love and trust are willing to resolve conflicts that do not in the long term mean too much.
That scenario does not repeat itself everywhere. Social conflicts can occur when neither party can see nor wants to see the resolution. Some fights are
not based on trivial matters. For example, we have the unresolved black–white supremacy battle. It has not been made any better in two hundred years,
when we can estimate the contact between the two to have begun. Efforts have been made, but the conflict between white and black is not something
that, I think, will ever evaporate. It is a deep–rooted cultural conflict. This type of conflict can manifest itself in many ways. We see it every day in
America's truly cosmopolitan society: skin color; accent differences and so on and so on. I myself have plenty of first hand experience with this
particular category, as I have lived 'abroad' for over nine years. One thing that has dogged my family and me is the fact that Indian cooking generates a
lot of smoke. Thick, filmy smoke that always fills a room, no matter the length of time cooking was done. Often, cultural conflicts bring about racial
slurs in our everyday language. Whether it is the British deriding the foolish Irishman – or the French doing the same to a remarkably 'Irish' sounding
Belgian – these slurs can become a routine and the conflict can

11/30/07 Life Change Imagine starting a book that you have to read for class, one that really looks interesting and you can't wait to get into the
middle of it to find out who dies, who cheats, or who solves the world's mystery. All of the anticipation is for nothing. You can't read it, your mind
wanders and thinks of everything else but concentrating on the story. Some people call it laziness, but to others it is a serious mind problem that just
won't let you concentrate no matter how hard you try. I can remember rereading paragraphs multiple times because my mind would wander into some
other world; I would still be reading, but unable to absorb the content of the text. My life changing event was when I was finally able to sit down and

While writing this it's almost like I'm completely zoned out, but zoned in at the same time. In other words I'm basically in my own little world
just sitting here peacefully writing my essay for English. Do you remember when you read your first book and while reading it you couldn't put it
down, for who knew what would happen next. I remember it clear as day, I had to read a novel for English class Senior year and it really looked
like a book I would just look at on "Spark Notes", but I decided to give it a try. When I read my first book without being distracted by spacing out or
any little sound that I heard I loved it. The novel was a Tail of Two Cities". Most of my classmates dislikes this book, but I found it very interesting.
I could never wait for what would come next and it had some historical significance to it as well. I was amazed on how complex some characters
can be in just a simple story. The way the writer was able to detail the setting and give the reader such a clear picture was perfect. It was as if I was
there with that characters throughout the whole period of time that the novel took place. Reading became one of my hobbies after I obtained pills
for ADD, I could really put myself right in the story and it became my own little world. I was never before able to read a book without reading the
chapter a couple of times. My homework would take twice as long as many other students, so most of the time I would use "Spark Notes" and not even

Essay about Conflict Handling Styles
Understanding Conflict Handling Styles In a dispute, it's often easier to describe how others respond then to how we respond. Each of us has a
predominant conflict style that we use to meet our own needs. By examining conflict styles and the consequences of those behaviors, we can gain a
better understanding of the impact that our personal conflict style has on other people. With a better understanding, you then can make a conscious
choice on how to respond to others in a conflict situation to help reduce work conflict and stress.
Behavioral scientists Kenneth Thomas and Ralph Kilmann, who developed the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, have identified five styles
to responding to conflict–competition, collaboration, compromise,...show more content...
If you constantly split the difference or "straddle the fence," game playing can result and the outcome could be less than ideal.
5. Collaborating
Value of own issue/goal: High
Value of relationship: High
Goal: I win, you win
The collaborative style views conflicts as problems to be solved and finding creative solutions that satisfy all the parties' concerns. You don't give up
your self interest; you dig into the issue to identify the underlying concerns, test your own assumptions, and understand the views of others.
Collaboration takes time and if the relationship among the parties is not important, then it may not be worth the time and energy to create a win–win
solution. However, collaboration fosters respect, trust, and builds relationships. To make an environment more collaborative, address the conflict
directly and in a way that expresses willingness for all parties to get what they need.
Although all of the approaches have their time and place, you need to ask yourself the basic question, "Is my preferred conflict handling style the very
best I can use to resolve this conflict or solve this problem?"
Focus on Interests (Needs), Not Positions (Wants)
Understanding people's interests is not a simple task because we tend to communicate our positions – things that are likely to be concrete and explicit.
It is helpful to learn to recognize the difference between person's

A Personal Conflict Analysis
By definition a conflict is a disagreement between people or teams due to different opinions or perspective (Cambridge Dictionaries). It is the result of
misunderstandings or a lack of communication. Conflict is something we have to deal with on a daily basis. Unfortunately, conflict is an inevitable
part of human relationships. Conflicts can happen at anytime or anywhere at work with co–workers, at home with our families or friends, for instance.
I am aware that in some point I will have to handle a conflict and even more when I will be manager. In fact, manager must be able to identify,
understand the source of the conflict, and resolve any kind of conflict ocurring within the team that he manages. Because each individual have strenghts
and weaknesses, teamworks can sometimes trigger sparks and create conflicts. It is natural to have discrepencies within a team. Thus, The risk of
conflict are many. This is the reason why the manager have to face differences without getting into the emotional process and without losing sight of
the objectives and priorities of the team.
I personally had a few conflicts throughout my life because I try to avoid it as much as possible. However, I could not always escape from it and I have
to handle some. Moreove, I consider myself proactive. I always try to monitor...show more content...
Also, conflicts allowed me to learn how to resolve efficiency a conflict and gave me some insight about how to be a good leader. In fact, those
experiences taught me that a leader is someone able to motivate, inspire, teach his team how to work together, and resolve conflicts within his team.
Handling conflicts is one of the most important characteristics not only in the business world but in our daily lives as well. This characteristic can
make life less stressful, produce happiness, and put a smile on the face instead of agony and low

How to Resolve Conflict Essay
Conflict is in inevitable part of our everyday lives. Since no two people view things in the exact same manner, disagreement will most certainly arise
at some point in time. Conflict is simply a difference of opinion and is considered to be a normal part of our everyday lives. There are several different
forms of conflict and not all of them are considered to be bad. This paper will discuss the causes of conflict, the different types of conflict, and barriers
to conflict. According to Communication Research Associates, conflict is a condition of imbalance within an individual (Communication Research
Associates, 2005, p. 178). Keep in mind that just as there are disadvantages to conflict, there are also several advantages.
In order to...show more content...
For example, if you are at work and walk by someone's desk and accidently knock their pen on the floor. All of sudden, the person lashes out and
starts to curse at you. Knowing that this is not the norm for your coworker, it would safe to assume that they are under some form of stress or have
other things on their mind. By knowing this, it becomes easier to respond in a more responsible, tempered, and appropriate, manner. Sometimes ego
can become a cause for conflict as well. There may come a time when someone is wrong about something or they may have made a mistake but they
refuse to admit it. Because they have such a high ego, they may become self–protective of their situation, therefore causing conflict because they refuse
to admit they were wrong. Instead they may choose to become persistent in standing their ground, whether they are right or wrong.
During communication, if the intended goals are not clearly identified, there is a greater possibility for error and it could further aggravate a situation,
causing conflict. Because each individual is different there are bound to be clashes within certain personality types. For example, if someone prefers
to discuss everything in detail and I prefer to get straight to the point then we could have a personality clash because we are not seeing things
eye–to–eye. They may view me as being incompetent or irresponsible while I would

Intrapersonal Conflict

  • 1. Intrapersonal Conflict Intrapersonal conflict reveals itself through different individual attitudes and behaviours. Most of these attitudes and behaviours may originate from self–induced, emotional or inner feelings which may include frustration and emotional instability. These attitudes or behaviours may lead to absenteeism and destructive behaviour among individuals in an organization (Hughes, 2001). Poor attitudes and behaviours which result from intrapersonal conflict usually decrease the performance and efficiency of an organization. On the other hand when it is managed in the right manner it helps individuals promote capacity to adapt and attain a balance in the working relations with the organization. The management of intrapersonal conflicts can be achieved through the implementation of two strategies which include cognitive strategies and behavioural strategies. Cognitive strategies, often referred to as defence mechanisms, help an individual to falsify, distort or deny a particular conflict. Cognitive strategies represent an attempt to control or manage negative and disturbing feelings associated with conflict and to allow an individual to carry on with his normal activities. Cognitive strategies include repression (an attempt to push conflict out of existence), rationalization (hiding the truth from oneself), fantasy or even denial of reality....show more content... An administrator should know when he is faced with interdepartmental conflict and be informed of the processes for coping with it or resolving it. When it comes to the management of interdepartmental conflicts, methods such as conflict avoidance , regulating a conflict by introducing new rules and procedures, seeking a form of "legalistic" solution, using departmental representatives to reach a compromise agreement or seeking mediation or arbitration from an outside body are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Personal Conflict Strategies Conflict management are types of strategies to help people through arguments with anyone. This has affected my life by helping me getting through arguments with my friends, family or really anyone who I come in conflict with. The one technique, AMPP, has helped me a lot because sometimes me and my friends argue and they do not tell me what I did wrong, so I use that technique to help us resolve our problem. One time I started texting my friend and she would not reply to me at first, so I kept texting back and asking her why she wasn't answering, and she finally replied back that I did something and she does not want to talk to me. Usually when we get into fights, we just joke around, but this time I could tell she was serious and I did not know why she was mad and she would not tell me why. While I was thinking of what to say or ask her, the subject of psychology came to my mind and I thought I could use helpful strategies to get me through this. So I remembered AMPP; ask, mirror, paraphrase and prime. AMPP is a powerful strategy skill that helps build up safety to encourage others to share what they are feeling. I suddenly thought, this would be a perfect time to use this skill to see if it actually works in a real–life experience. ...show more content... Since she did not tell me why, I used mirroring to state how she was feeling back to her, and I said, "you seem to be very angry at me", which was kind of a given, but I needed more information as to why she was mad. Next, I could not really use paraphrasing because she had not told me any reason for why she was mad, so I had to jump to prime, which is the last technique to use only if nothing else worked. So finally, I asked her if she was mad at me for the reason I thought she was mad at me for (which I do not need to mention), but I was not sure, and I did not want to just ask her that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Dealing With Conflict Essay Dealing with Conflict 1.1  Potential conflict can arise when two parties or people have a disagreement on a particular subject. For example, a person may have said he was going to complete a task which he failed to do which caused conflict with another person or party, or maybe two people who have different ideas on who to accomplish a task may become heated.  Stages of conflict are hard to describe in detail but it usually starts with raised voices to get an opinion across which can escalate into a yelling match as one person tries to get the other person or party to agree with what he is saying. Basically conflict will stop when both parties or people agree on something, as conflict won't usually end if there...show more content... Factors such as anger and stress could be dangerous when communicating, as people are often very temperamental when affected by these factors. Another factor could be the environment, such as a meeting, could hinder communication as reputations and even jobs could be at stake if in appropriate communication is used. Basically, there is a time and a place for all various types of communication and care should be taken when talking to our peers and our bosses. 3.2 – Effective Non–Verbal and Verbal Communication Body Language – This is important as people usually take note of how a person acts and moves. For example, if a person sometimes scratches their nose when speaking, it could mean to other people that he is trying to cover something up. Questioning – Never be afraid to question a person for the sake of your own better understanding of a subject. It is different when questioning a person's ability or understanding of a subject, which could result in conflict.

  • 5. Personal Narrative On Social Conflict Personal Narrative: Social Conflict It would have been easy to resolve had either one of us wanted to end the squabble. Looking back, it is unbelievable to me that I acted the way I did. Again and again the situation runs through my mind, unveiling new ends to the argument. It was a perfect example of similar scenes playing themselves out all over the world – the most basic level of social conflict we have, the easiest to resolve. I'd challenge anyone to speak out if he or she has not argued over trivial matters with his or her loved ones and closest friends. These relationships cannot be broken, just like a coastline never really disappears, even though both are subject to terrible pressures. I had been studying for the past...show more content... People with whom we share mutual love and trust are willing to resolve conflicts that do not in the long term mean too much. That scenario does not repeat itself everywhere. Social conflicts can occur when neither party can see nor wants to see the resolution. Some fights are not based on trivial matters. For example, we have the unresolved black–white supremacy battle. It has not been made any better in two hundred years, when we can estimate the contact between the two to have begun. Efforts have been made, but the conflict between white and black is not something that, I think, will ever evaporate. It is a deep–rooted cultural conflict. This type of conflict can manifest itself in many ways. We see it every day in America's truly cosmopolitan society: skin color; accent differences and so on and so on. I myself have plenty of first hand experience with this particular category, as I have lived 'abroad' for over nine years. One thing that has dogged my family and me is the fact that Indian cooking generates a lot of smoke. Thick, filmy smoke that always fills a room, no matter the length of time cooking was done. Often, cultural conflicts bring about racial slurs in our everyday language. Whether it is the British deriding the foolish Irishman – or the French doing the same to a remarkably 'Irish' sounding Belgian – these slurs can become a routine and the conflict can Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Personal Conflict 11/30/07 Life Change Imagine starting a book that you have to read for class, one that really looks interesting and you can't wait to get into the middle of it to find out who dies, who cheats, or who solves the world's mystery. All of the anticipation is for nothing. You can't read it, your mind wanders and thinks of everything else but concentrating on the story. Some people call it laziness, but to others it is a serious mind problem that just won't let you concentrate no matter how hard you try. I can remember rereading paragraphs multiple times because my mind would wander into some other world; I would still be reading, but unable to absorb the content of the text. My life changing event was when I was finally able to sit down and ...show more content... While writing this it's almost like I'm completely zoned out, but zoned in at the same time. In other words I'm basically in my own little world just sitting here peacefully writing my essay for English. Do you remember when you read your first book and while reading it you couldn't put it down, for who knew what would happen next. I remember it clear as day, I had to read a novel for English class Senior year and it really looked like a book I would just look at on "Spark Notes", but I decided to give it a try. When I read my first book without being distracted by spacing out or any little sound that I heard I loved it. The novel was a Tail of Two Cities". Most of my classmates dislikes this book, but I found it very interesting. I could never wait for what would come next and it had some historical significance to it as well. I was amazed on how complex some characters can be in just a simple story. The way the writer was able to detail the setting and give the reader such a clear picture was perfect. It was as if I was there with that characters throughout the whole period of time that the novel took place. Reading became one of my hobbies after I obtained pills for ADD, I could really put myself right in the story and it became my own little world. I was never before able to read a book without reading the chapter a couple of times. My homework would take twice as long as many other students, so most of the time I would use "Spark Notes" and not even bother getting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Essay about Conflict Handling Styles Understanding Conflict Handling Styles In a dispute, it's often easier to describe how others respond then to how we respond. Each of us has a predominant conflict style that we use to meet our own needs. By examining conflict styles and the consequences of those behaviors, we can gain a better understanding of the impact that our personal conflict style has on other people. With a better understanding, you then can make a conscious choice on how to respond to others in a conflict situation to help reduce work conflict and stress. Behavioral scientists Kenneth Thomas and Ralph Kilmann, who developed the Thomas–Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, have identified five styles to responding to conflict–competition, collaboration, compromise,...show more content... If you constantly split the difference or "straddle the fence," game playing can result and the outcome could be less than ideal. 5. Collaborating Value of own issue/goal: High Value of relationship: High Goal: I win, you win The collaborative style views conflicts as problems to be solved and finding creative solutions that satisfy all the parties' concerns. You don't give up your self interest; you dig into the issue to identify the underlying concerns, test your own assumptions, and understand the views of others. Collaboration takes time and if the relationship among the parties is not important, then it may not be worth the time and energy to create a win–win solution. However, collaboration fosters respect, trust, and builds relationships. To make an environment more collaborative, address the conflict directly and in a way that expresses willingness for all parties to get what they need. Although all of the approaches have their time and place, you need to ask yourself the basic question, "Is my preferred conflict handling style the very best I can use to resolve this conflict or solve this problem?" Focus on Interests (Needs), Not Positions (Wants) Understanding people's interests is not a simple task because we tend to communicate our positions – things that are likely to be concrete and explicit. It is helpful to learn to recognize the difference between person's

  • 10. How to Resolve Conflict Essay Conflict is in inevitable part of our everyday lives. Since no two people view things in the exact same manner, disagreement will most certainly arise at some point in time. Conflict is simply a difference of opinion and is considered to be a normal part of our everyday lives. There are several different forms of conflict and not all of them are considered to be bad. This paper will discuss the causes of conflict, the different types of conflict, and barriers to conflict. According to Communication Research Associates, conflict is a condition of imbalance within an individual (Communication Research Associates, 2005, p. 178). Keep in mind that just as there are disadvantages to conflict, there are also several advantages. In order to...show more content... For example, if you are at work and walk by someone's desk and accidently knock their pen on the floor. All of sudden, the person lashes out and starts to curse at you. Knowing that this is not the norm for your coworker, it would safe to assume that they are under some form of stress or have other things on their mind. By knowing this, it becomes easier to respond in a more responsible, tempered, and appropriate, manner. Sometimes ego can become a cause for conflict as well. There may come a time when someone is wrong about something or they may have made a mistake but they refuse to admit it. Because they have such a high ego, they may become self–protective of their situation, therefore causing conflict because they refuse to admit they were wrong. Instead they may choose to become persistent in standing their ground, whether they are right or wrong. During communication, if the intended goals are not clearly identified, there is a greater possibility for error and it could further aggravate a situation, causing conflict. Because each individual is different there are bound to be clashes within certain personality types. For example, if someone prefers to discuss everything in detail and I prefer to get straight to the point then we could have a personality clash because we are not seeing things eye–to–eye. They may view me as being incompetent or irresponsible while I would Get more content on HelpWriting.net
