Pipeline Welding Essay
Becoming a pipeline welder is a quest unto itself because it has so many requirements in not only
educational preparation and personal qualities but also in the the daily expectations for this career.
Pipeline welders are highly skilled and sought after, well trained, versatile, join and repair tubular
products and components, assemble buildings, vessels, structures, and stand alone pipelines.
The history of pipeline welding is kind of cool in 1900 E. Fouch and F. Picard developed the first
oxyacetylene torch in France. In 1901 Menne invented the oxygen lance in Germany. In 1903 Hans
Goldschmidt from Essen, Germany invented Thermit welding, an exothermic reaction between
aluminum powder and metal oxide, they used this technique to weld railroad ... Show more content on

This job doesn t really require any education besides knowing how to weld. It s not required but can
go to a technical college to get more experience and training besides the on site training.
Rig welders and pipeline welders often charge $1,000 a day. Traveling pipeline welders earn $50,000
$185,000 a year, and usually make $18 an hour starting out all the the way to making up to $50 an
hour for being experienced and been in the the business longer. The Projected growth for pipeline
welding jobs between 2010 2020 is being predicted at around 15% increase. Also it could improve due
to the the new laws passing the the Keystone and Dakota pipeline.
Some advantages to being a pipeline welder is you make fat stacks of cash, learning a good trade to
know, get to see new places and travel, and meet new people. Some disadvantages are long hours
away from home, long periods of time away from family, and you also can get injured.
Pipeline welding is a very hard and rough job. There is a lot of work and dedication needed to
accomplish this job. My personal career plans are to go to a technical college to further my
knowledge, ability to weld, and also obtain my osha10 card. I feel that this job suits me well due to the
fact that I can weld and work hard. The

Examples Of Hubris In The Necklace And The Cask Of...
One is a story of revenge and murder, the other a story of greed and materialism. On the surface, the
short stories appear quite different, but at their heart, a similar drive beats within the three main
characters, determining their actions and altering the pathways of their lives. The Cask of Amontillado
by Edgar Allen Poe is a story of the proud Montresor, obsessed with getting revenge on the foolish
Fortunato. The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, is a story of a beautiful woman who felt she
belonged to an upper class but was forced to live a banal, ordinary life. While the plots of these two
short stories are different, the central characters all share the overarching quality of an obsessive pride
hubris. This hubris comes in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the motto? Nemo me impune lacessit (Poe 1). Simply translated, this means no one provokes me
with impunity. The family motto indicates that pride of family honor has been a long standing and
well guarded trait. Montresor s ancestry and history of pride elevates his grievance against Fortunato,
and evokes an attack because he dared to belittle Montresor s honorable name. In fact, Montresor s
pride is still so great, and his remorse so little, that he continues to gasconade about his revenge fifty
years after the event. The pride of his family name forces Montresor to murder Fortunato,
conclusively and irreversibly directing his decisions throughout the short story.
In The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor is not the only character who displays an overwhelming and
ultimately detrimental sense of pride. Fortunato is also a very prideful man who is willing to go to
great lengths to maintain his honor and reputation. For him, it is his reputation as a fine wine expert
that he must defend. Fortunato s pride overrides his common sense and is the driving force of the
deadly decisions he makes throughout the story. Montresor claims to possess a bottle of the expensive
and highly regarded Amontillado wine. He tells Fortunato that he has called an expert, Luchresi, to
inspect the wine. Fortunato forces Montresor to take him to the vaults because he is certain that
[Montresor has] been imposed upon. And as for Luchresi, he cannot

The Positive And Political Impacts Of The Olympic Games
The Olympics are a wonderful metaphor for world cooperation, the kind of international competition
that s wholesome and healthy, an interplay between countries that represents the best in all of us, said
John Williams, the composer for theme music for the Olympics (8). The Olympic Games are
international sports festivals that began in ancient Greece. The first ancient Olympics can be traced
back to 776 BC when people held this religious festival to honour Zeus, the father of all the Greek
gods and goddesses. The participants were male citizens from Greece, and these athletes participated
in only one event foot race. Unfortunately, this ancient Olympics did not last forever. The first

The Nazi Olympics in Berlin in 1936 destroyed Hitler s master race history. There was very definitely
a special feeling in winning the gold medal and being a black man, Woodruff said. We destroyed
[Hitler s] master race theory whenever we started winning those gold medals, said runner John
Woodruff (7). John Woodruff was a black man who won a gold medal. Another African American
Jesse Owens won four track and field gold medals. These two people defied the Aryan ideal that Hitler
believed that Aryan dominated the world. Another important impact the Olympic brought happened in
1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. In that Olympics, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon refused to
participate because of a dispute over the Suez Canal; Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands
boycotted the Games in protest over the Soviet Union s invasion of Hungary; China boycotted the
Games because a flag of Taiwan was raised in the Olympic Village. The original purpose of the
Olympics was to make the countries collaborate, however, it also brought negative impacts. Another
example is that Olympics in Mexico city in 1968. Americans politicised the Games by letting two
African Americans, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, represent the United States. Tommie Smith and
John Carlos placed first and third in the track and field. During their medal ceremony, they raised a

Symptoms And Treatment Of Hiv
There have been 30 drugs approved to treat Hiv, but currently there are no cures for this virus.
Treatments for HIV can help people live with the virus while taking care of their physical, mental
health, and overall well being. Starting treatment as soon as possible it can also help your health
circumstances and strengthen your immune system. Getting tested for HIV is very important to
decrease the spread of the virus and save many lives.
Getting tested to know your status in order to avoid illnesses is important. The growth of new
infections continues to pose serious health problems/risk. Today in America there are 1.25 million
people who are infected with HIV. Out of the 1.25 million people, twenty percent of them are unaware
of their HIV status. In the event of the possibility of exposure or contamination of HIV it is smart to
get tested regularly to not infect others or get early treatment. You can reduce your risk by getting
tested often. Early detection can lead to a better treatment and a greater outcome for a longer life
expectancy. You should get tested if never got tested before. The centers of disease control and
prevention recommends that you should get tested at least once a year if you participate in activities
that can cause HIV infection.
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. HIV is an infection. Many infections may cause the
body to be chilly and stay in the body just for a few days. On the other hand, HIV will never go away.

Veterans Affairs Killing Our Veterans Essay
Veterans Affairs Killing Our Veterans
Our United States military members swear on an oath to support and defend our constitution. These
men and women protect us stateside and fight for our country abroad during war times. Loyalty is not
only taught from the day they enter the service, but it is earned throughout their career. What happens
to the well being of our veterans when their military career has ended? Is the United States as loyal to
these veterans as they were to us? The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers
healthcare to veterans when returning from war. Unfortunately, too many veterans are not receiving
adequate or timely care due to delays, poor record keeping, and mismanagement of fund.
Josh Hicks, author at The Washing Post, says that the Veterans Affairs has an ongoing problem of
delays in servicing veterans. Phoenix VA hospital kept delays off the books with secret wait lists that
allegedly included dozens of patients who died while waiting for care (Hicks 1). Several patients died
at an Atlanta clinic because of mismanagement (Hicks 1). A Department clinic in Fort Collins,
Colorado, falsified appointment records to give the impression that staff doctors saw patients within
the agency s goal of 14 days (Hicks 1). In addition to these issues, other veterans waiting to hear if
their disability claims had been approved for care were waiting in excess of 125 days without
determination. Retired four star Army General Eric Shinseki, serving

Om Sokdae Addiction Quotes
Addiction comes from the Latin word addictiōn, which means a giving over or surrender. When one is
addicted to something they give over their entire life and let it consume their thoughts, they will do
anything to get and keep it. Although, most only think of an addiction as something of substance.
Contrary to their beliefs, people can become addicted to power or being in a higher rank. The
character in the book Our Twisted Hero by Yi Munyol, Om Sokdae, gets addicted to having power in
the classroom and becomes manipulative towards his classmates in order to keep them under his
thumb. Power is addictive. After watching him for a while, Han comes to realize that Sokdae can steal
anything from his classmates. Because they are so afraid of him, Sokdae only has to compliment the ...

This is another example of Sokdae s manipulation that comes with him being in power because he
forces the other boys to do his work. Pak Wonha explains this to Han when he catches him erasing Pak
s name and writing Om Sakdae on the exam. It can t be helped. All of the others do it, too. And
Sokdae changes turns fairly, so the loss is evenly distributed. With the exception of Sokdae, our
ranking is all according to ability. That s if some lucky boy like you doesn t get in front of us. (Munyol
77) This evidence supports the claim because it is a perfect demonstration of how Sakdae does
everything to stay in power. Contrary to what Han believed about him earlier, Sokdae is not the
smartest in the class. So in order to remain ranking at the top of the class, he has other boys take his
test for him. Obviously they wouldn t argue with him, because as said before they will be punished,
most likely beaten. As a result, Om Sakdae has been manipulating the class with violence in order to

Donald Trump Leader Analysis Paper
Donald Trump Leader Analysis 3 560 91 Organizational Leadership Prepared By Long Lin 11 5 2016
Leading change Next Tuesday, 11/08/2016, is a big day for Trump. Based on the poll, Trump s rate is
increasing. He might be the new president after this election. In order to make America great, he has
some plans to improve the American life. As a leader, leading a change is a challenge in an
organization. Trump proved his business talent in the real estate industry. Trump wants to change the
tax. The changes of tax will impact all people live in the US (Tax plan, 2016). In his tax plan, he wants
to reduce taxes for working and middle income Americans. These people, who will receive a massive
tax reduction, will like this change. Also, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Trump doesn t follow this process. When he was asked about the foreign policy issues, he didn t
answer directly. He escaped the questions again and again. The only thing he insists is making
America great. But he doesn t have any preparation to implement this goal. Also, he said he would
renegotiate the Trans Pacific Partnership, relations with China, the Iran nuclear deal, and the
partnerships with key allies. I doubt about his negotiation skills. He doesn t show any knowledge
about these international issues. I don t think he can negotiate with the others. The preparation is an
important stage when you try to achieve a good result. You have to know about the problem and
consider how to get win win between the parties. Trump needs to learn how to negotiation. For
example, the immigration might be a problem. But this is no way to build a wall to ban the Mexican.
The leader should separate the people from the problem. One rule can t fit all problems. Also, Trump
needs to let people trust him. The pursue fairness might help him. The change of tax rate has a
significant influence. If people view the process of fair, they would accept it. In addition, Trump
should have a BATNA if the agreement is not reached. The BATNA helps the leader make smart
choices. Also, the leader could have more bargaining power

How To Read In Elementary School
In elementary school the one subject I always would struggle with was spelling. At the end of every
week we would have a spelling test based on a set of words that came from a vocabulary or spelling
workbook. On Mondays at the beginning of class we would receive the previous week s test and
examine the words for the test that week. I would always study and would try a million different
methods, even coming up with my own unique methods to study. No matter what process I used my
grade would always end up being poor. My mom would always be on me about doing better on the
test but nothing would come about from that. So, my mom decided to get involved and attempt to
raise my grades. At first she tried studying with me. She would go over the words with me and use the
methods I had previously used myself. After studying with my mom, I would always feel more
confident but the grades I would receive were still subpar. It was frustrating. For some reason, it was
just a task for me to spell. I would make up fake dieses with my best friend Becca like spellyosis, the
inability to spell. We would have to participate in the class spelling bee and I would ... Show more

Universal Health Care
In 2007, more than 45 million Americans did not have health care insurance. The United States is the
only industrialized major nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing that
has become a popular issue recently. The sharp difference between the two sides is a difference in
ethical values; those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, mainly the
lower class, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue taking
advantage of the status quo for profit. In this paper, I will argue why the Government should put in
place The Universal Healthcare Systems.[1]

Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal healthcare
system prevents that because it is run by the government.[2]
I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many
governments around the world have established all embracing health care, which takes the burden of
health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of financial possibility.
There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care practices. Health care is
an important part of health systems, and therefore, it often accounts for one of the largest areas of high
spending for both governments and individuals all over the world. For example, medical debt is now a
leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A policy should be created to help lower the
cost of health care.2
One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to make
sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will help decrease the number of lobbyers which in turn
will cut government funding to those special interest groups. There are 45 million Americans
uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack of affordable
health care. So by creating a universal health care system, we can be sure to expect to see a longer
lifespan for our population as is the case in countries that

A Summary Of Gram-Negative Bacteria
Introduction
Every winter the snow falls, and people get sick. Both of these items have components in common.
Both the snow that falls, and the bacteria that gets people sick may be small, but when allowed to
accumulate, characteristics of them become visible. While snow is made from frozen water, with
flakes differentiating in the structure of them, bacteria is like that, to a sense. Certain bacteria families
may have similar genomes, they do have slight differences that make up what they are. Just like snow
being made of frozen water, bacteria is made up of the same four genomes. They re just in a different
order, which makes them unique
One way to tell the difference is to see if the bacteria is gram positive or gram negative. Gram Positive
bacteria contains peptidoglycan (which is a polymer of amino acids and sugars), while Gram Negative
Bacteria does not have as much. (Holbrook, 24)
Because Gram Positive contain peptidoglycan, they do not form string in the KOH test. The opposite
is true for Gram Negative it will form a string due to its chemical makeup. The Gram Positive bacteria
uses the peptidoglycan to act as a wall, so the KOH will not react with it. However, the cell membrane
on the Gram Negative bacteria reacts with the KOH, which creates a slight polar charge on the
bacteria, which causes it to form a string. If too much force was added by pulling on the toothpick,
this causes the string to break. Therefore, when applying the KOH string test, one must be

How Robert Schumann Revolutionized Music

When we listen to music our whole brain in reacting to it and this is in a good way. When we listen to
music dopamine is released into our bodies making us happy. Music is and has been part of our culture

Similarities and Differences Between Jefferson and Jesus
Based on the book A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines
In the book A Lesson Before Dying, there are multiple hints, clues and symbolism between Jefferson
and Jesus. The author, Ernest Gaines, draws a line between Jefferson and Jesus, but yet he creates his
character to be similar to Jesus in multiple ways. Some ways that Jefferson and Jesus are alike is that
they both die around Easter, but not by their choice. Both Jefferson and Jesus were unjustly convicted
and were not killed out of their own will. The deaths of these two men were both symbolic in many
ways and in some ways seem to be seen as a defeat to society and humanity. It happens second Friday

For Jefferson, he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. The defense argued that Jefferson was
innocent of all charges except being at the wrong place at the wrong time. (Gaines, 7). For Jesus,
Pontius Pilate asks the crowd he and Jesus were in front of, what they wanted to happen with him.
Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty.
Therefore I will have him punished and then release him. (Luke 23:22). In a way Pilate seems to be
defending Jesus like the defendant in Jefferson s trial, trying to see what the jury wants to happen, also
trying to bail him out; Though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9)
But this man has done nothing wrong (Luke 23:41). The fact that Mr. Gropé shot only Brother and
Bear was proof of Jefferson s innocence. (Gaines, 7). Both Jesus and Jefferson were recognized as
innocent by some and yet still received a death sentence. In the Old Testament, it was prophesized that
Jesus would have done nothing wrong but still be convicted, as well as Jefferson was convicted for
something he did not do. The death of these two men is symbolic in many ways. First, for Jefferson it
was a defeat for him standing for the blacks showing that they are equal and showing that there is not
a difference between blacks and whites and that they should not be treated as less because he is still
yet a man; I want you to show them that you are as much

The Ballad of the Sad Café is a fantastic novel written by Carson McCullers that takes strange turns
and curves shockingly. The Ballad of Sad Café is an account of love triangle set in a little town in
Georgia. The town is portrayed as horrid, bereft, and tragic that is far away and antagonized from
every single other place in the world. The novella investigates the subject of affection that spins
around three critical characters Miss Amelia, Marvin Macy, and Cousin Lymon in an adoration
triangle that takes the peruser on a radical new level. The three characters in the novel have distinctive
traits. For example, Cousin Lymon is potrayed as a guile character, Miss Amelia depicted as a

was offered to me, instead of what I was seeking. Understanding that as an ENTP I am able to adapt to
most situations, quickly master new concepts and all while building meaningful relationships, helped
me to see that just because I am really good at a particular task does not mean I should do it as a full
time career. The boredom I will inevitably experience along with the day to day detailed tasked that
will pile up may cause me to lose focus and eliminate me from being as successful as possible. As
long as I stay honest with myself about my strengths and weaknesses, instead of trying to handle
everything, I will thrive in any career that is in need of a new way of thinking (16 Personalities, 2015).

Market Economy
According to Economics: Principles Practices, one of the disadvantages is that it does not provide for
the basic needs of everyone in the society. That is true, but with the assistance from some government
services such as Social Security and Medicare, the people will be helped and still remain free to
purchase and buy what they want. Another disadvantage that is stated is the possibility of economic
failure. The economic could fail if there is not enough competition. In a mixed market economy, the
government helps prevent monopolies and to ensure competition (Economics, pg 39). With the
competition, motivation is created to strive to be successful. The goals that a mixed market economy

A market and a mixed market economy are very similar. They share many advantages and
disadvantages. The main difference is that there is almost no government involvement at all. This
could display and advantage and also disadvantage. The advantage is that the government is not
holding you back by small laws and rules. This could make you wealthier and wealthier and give you
more and more power. There are no restrictions on selling and buying items along with handling them.
This also, however, could be a disadvantage to most people. In a market economy, there is no financial
service that the government runs. In simpler terms, the poor get poorer and poorer. There is no aid you
can get from the government to help you because of the very little government involvement. In a
mixed market economy the producers and consumers decide on the three basic questions in
economics. The questions are what, how, and for whom to produce. Supply and demand answers the
questions. The consumers wants determines what is produce. The producers determine how to produce
it by figuring out the most efficient way to make what the consumers want. For whom to produce it
for is the consumers and whoever is willing to pay for the product. (Economics pgs 6 7) As one can
see, a mixed market economy gives citizens freedom but with the protection of the government. There

English 101 Reflection
Throughout this semester in English 101, I have made a significant improvement on multiple things,
including how to be an exceptional writer and thinker. English has always been one of my most
favored subjects to study because to me it instructs students how to be intelligent, how to become a
more creative and critical thinker, and be able to develop ethical values and imagination. You can
express yourself more efficiently in English than you can in any other subject. This class has truly
made me a more confident writer and helped me express myself in different ways through the different
types of papers I wrote. By writing different types of papers I have improved multiple areas of my

different ways of enforcing these constraints.
e. Insert into DEPENDENT.
Answer: This operation is accepted and it can be successfully inserted.
g. Delete the EMPLOYEE tuple with Ssn = 987654321 .
Answer: This operation can t be used. Because Ssn has been used as a foreign key of WORKS_ON,
EMPLOYEE and DEPARTMENT relations ad deleting records with Ssn = 987654321 will leave no
corresponding entry for record in WORKS_ON relation. If we want to delete this data than we need to
delete it from all the tables.
h. Delete the PROJECT tuple with Pname = ProductX .
Answer: This operation can t be used. Because Pnumber has been used as a foreign key of

Humor of South Park Essay
Manbearpig: Half Man, Half Bear, Half Pig, but All Global Warming? South Park is a popular
animated comedy series written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. While the episodes of South Park are
always humorous on the surface, each show usually has a deeper, much more profound meaning and
moral. One episode of South Park entitled Manbearpig, named after the monster in the episode, has a
particularly potent deeper meaning. On the surface, the episode pokes fun at monster stories, politics,
and specifically Al Gore. Deeper down, however, this monster story can be read as a national allegory
alluding to the dangers of global warming, the problems with the politics behind global warming, and
the eventual doom we will all face if we do nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Al Gore tells the student body that he is there to warn them about the single biggest threat to human
existence, a horrible monster named Manbearpig. Al Gore further goes on to describe the monster s
appearance. He states that Manbearpig is half man, half bear, and half pig (South Park). This pokes
fun at the typical monster in literature. The impossible ratio of man, bear, and pig shows how monsters
can be considered scary regardless of how ridiculous they may actually be when analyzed literally.
While Manbearpig is not necessarily intended to be scary to the audience of South Park, it is intended
to be scary to the students by Al Gore. In fact, the attributes of Manbearpig are similar to those of
many different monsters throughout literature. Manbearpig is a creature that is a mixture of man and
animal. This is a characteristic attributable to many monsters in literature. For example, the werewolf
addresses this same fear about crossing line between man and animal. Man animal Strauss 2 hybrid

Social Issues Of Rap Music
Since its origin in the late 1970 s in the South of Bronx in New York City, hip hop has emerged as a
national predominant form of music in America. Also known as rap music, it is consistent with fast
rhythmic vocals that gained popularity for speaking the raw truth of matters many people were scared
to deal with. Artists originally used this creative platform in order to give a voice to the urban poverty
in America. However, the main issue in urban areas changed. The matter became more about the
increase in violence particularly towards the harassment black communities faced by police.
Consequently, rap music became more violent to this new racial uproar in the streets. It developed a
new subgenre of rap called gangsta rap. Moreover, racial abuse continued to be present in the urban
streets, such as the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Because of this gangsta rap remained as the main
component of hip hop to this day. Due to its explicit presentation of violence, it is assumed to be a
genre of unconscious vulgarity causing critics to deem it as detrimental to society. However, rap music
does not cause violence but instead brings awareness to the violence already present to the world,
specifically urban areas. Despite common belief, rap music is beneficial to our society due to its
creation of platforms for social injustices to be addressed as an attempt to bring awareness to these
issues. Rap music brings a new perspective to social issues. Many of these social issues such

Arthurian Historicism Analysis
The Retelling of Arthurian Historicism
During the beginning of the medieval era, a king was born. He was strong, smart, and a warrior. Until
a few centuries later his narrative changed again to fit the needs of the people. King Arthur of Camelot
was a figurehead for hope and prosperity to the early European peoples. Through out history there has
been speculation about the validity of the history of King Arthur and his court of knights. After the
medieval era, Arthurian legend became less prominent and more folklore that history. The people were
no longer in need of knights and mythical round tables. During the 19th century, poets took it upon
themselves to add different perspectives to the legends. Alfred Tennyson, an Arthurian enthusiast,
believed in the monarch as a historical figure and gear his poetry to toward a masculine Christian
theme. Much of his history arrived through the Geoffrey of Monmouth and historiography of British
monarchs. This belief in a true King Arthur allows readers of Tennyson s poems to reevaluate his
meaning and interpretation of the characters involved including their masculinity, femininity,
honorable characteristics, religion, and supernatural capabilities.
Along with Tennyson, Arthur Morris took an interest in the legends of King Arthur. However, his
interested were in the untold stories of individuals he felt were ill represented. In his interpretations he
adds Victorian cultural undertones to add something to the characters that was not

Jesse looks like he s figuring something out in his head when he interrupts, The war started.

Pop Culture Essay
Habitual Americans
From the newest music video to the latest Buzzfeed s Tasty recipe, Americans express themselves
through pop culture. What music someone listens to, who they follow on Instagram, what tweet they
retweet on Twitter: all reflects who someone is. Americans reflect themselves through pop culture
contrary to belief that pop culture creates Americans.
Barbie s and Legos: two of the most popular children s toys throughout the decades These toys are
always being remade in a new way and sold through advertising. The newest Legos are always made
to correspond with a movie coming to theaters near you. These toys are why pop culture creates
Americans as a society. Americans buy what they see on television, these products then become
popular , and eventually are owned in every household. Snuggies were once popular, they were
advertised during every commercial break, leaving everyone to feel like they needed one. If these had
not been advertised as much as they were, they would not have been popular. Although Americans buy
what they see as popular, it does not create who they are, only reflects what is popular at the moment.
Of course, someone is going to go buy, the newest invention or go see the newest action movie in
theater. The product interests the consumer into looking into it more.
If someone is partially awake at 3 am, they will turn on the shopping channel, where things you
thought had never been invented are sold. People are curious on what is out there.

Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would
create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most
important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police
officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force
necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous
public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms
of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide
adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen
Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people
would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use
of excessive force or even deadly force. In 2010, we saw a large increase in the number of deadly
force encounters our officers were involved in. Historically, the city has had about six officer involved
shootings per year. We had 14 in 2010, and the majority of those were fatal. (Police Executive

Why Is Soccer Better Than American Football

mainly an American sport which only attracts the Americans. But why American peoples hate soccer?
There are a lot of debates that goes on regards to football and soccer. Whenever the controversy

The most disputed issues that a soccer fan will differentiate between soccer and American football is
that soccer is played mainly by kicking the ball and it is only allowed to the goalkeeper to use his
hands or if the ball goes out of bounds and requires what is called a throw in. In contrary, American
football is played by throwing the ball and is only kicked when a field goal is required or in their term
return punts. In soccer, kicking the ball to the other team is rarely or better yet, done on purpose. On
the other hand, in football, that player is removed and the game is continued in whatever direction it
has gone before. The interesting part that also tells the difference between them is physical. It was a
compulsory for American football to have big and powerful player rather than skillful, so they can
tackle bigger opponents with roughness without getting so much damage. It goes completely opposite
with soccer, the players in this sport industry are average with the standard of a normal person, but

Emily Dickinson And The Village Blacksmith
The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. This poem is about an honest,

poem by Emily Dickinson. In the poem it describes the feeling of hurt and oppression ironically using
light as the instrument of hurting. Throughout this essay I will be explaining and going into detail of
the literary elements found in each individually, but also found in both of these poems. The Village

The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision.
Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson says,
Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the poem she uses
enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical scar, but a mental one
caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain Slant of Light there us a
common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when Dickinson says, When it goes, tis
like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme within The Village Blacksmith, the
message of the theme of death is different because of using death as an object rather than a process
that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as something that the blacksmith dealt with, A
certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity that is being described as having a distant look.
Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will be talking about. The quote i will be using to
demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the
word Tis shows the use of elision by shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason
that Dickinson did this is because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period
when it was written. I believe that Emily Dickinson s use of literary devices was able to deliver
different messages, and things to think about while reading this

He sends for him, and upon arrival the shepherd was timid to reveal the truth. Oedipus responded by

Oedipus, realizes the truth behind who her husband really is, and that the prophecy had been fulfilled

Ambush By Tim O Brien Summary
War Changes People (A Discussion of 3 Messages from Ambush) Sometimes the smallest things can
be the biggest surprises. Tim O Brien is an award winning fiction writer. He wrote a short story,
Ambush, about a man, Tim, who has gone to war and ended up throwing a grenade and killing another
soldier. He felt very guilty and ever since has always remembered it. The soldiers also carry stories:

forever be known and thought about. Many events that happen in this story come out surprising to the
readers. In Ambush, by Tim O Brien, there are 3 important messages or big surprises. The biggest and
most obvious surprise in Tim O Brien s story, Ambush, is when Tim threw the back the grenade,
killing the other soldier. This was a big surprise because the man wasn t into killing people and never
really wanted to kill anybody. He was really shocked that he did that and felt guilty afterwards. In

Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme
In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the way
our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to respond
while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told, Shotwell and the
narrator do not trust each other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the other if they start to
behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what counts as normal.
Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s intended theme, some
used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme uses repetition to show how
the narrator s mind is deteriorating while being confined in a small space, isolated from everyone
except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about what to do. A lot of what the
narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers, believe that his mind is
deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for one hundred thirty three
days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep himself reminded. Although,
it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in isolation and it starts to make him
think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and focus on about how they are both
unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the readers are

The Pleistocene Ice Ages
Throughout the Pleistocene ice ages, large areas of the earth were covered by vast ice sheets. Global
sea levels dropped up to 120 metres below present day coastlines, exposing large areas of land that
were once flooded by shallow seas. These lands became colonised by vegetation, animals, birds and
insects over time. During the Ice Age, the island continent to the south east of Asia comprised New
Guinea, Australia and Tasmania as a single land mass. Separating this continent from Asia was a
narrow sea about one hundred kilometres wide, over which the first ocean crossings were made
sometime before 60,000 years ago. These ancient mariners became the founding peoples of Australia.
They were faced with a strange land that was vastly different

The Impact of Corporate Governance on Firm Performance in...
Introduction Corporate governance is a field in economics that investigates how to secure/motivate
efficient management of corporations by the use of incentive mechanisms, such as contracts,
organizational designs and legislation. This is often limited to the question of improving financial
performance, for example, how the corporate owners can secure/motivate that the corporate managers
will deliver a competitive rate of return. (Mathiesen, 2002). Another definition is Corporate
Governance is concerned with holding the balance between economic and social goals and between
individual and communal goals. The corporate governance framework is there to encourage the
efficient use of resources and equally to require accountability ... Show more content on

Chhaochharia and Grinstein (2007) looked at the impact of the 2002 governance rules established by
the Sarbanes Oxley Act on firm value. They found that less compliant firms earn positive abnormal
returns compared to more compliant firms. They also found that less compliant large firms earn
positive abnormal returns but less compliant small firms earn negative abnormal returns. Bhagat and
Bolton (2008) examined the relationship between corporate governance and performance, and found
that better corporate governance, board members stock ownership, and CEO Chair separation are
positively related to operating performance. They also found that the probability of management
turnover is positively related to board members stock ownership and board independence when firms
perform poorly. Patibandla (2006) examined the ownership structure and firm performance on Indian
firms by separating large investors into private foreignin stitutional investors and government owned
local financial institutions. Patibandla found a positive relationship between private foreign
institutional investors and firm profitability and a negative relationship between government owned
local financial institutions and firm profitability. Aims Objectives of Research The aim of this
investigation is to make a research on the impact of corporate governance on the performance of firms
in Mauritius. The research is going to see the

Irregular Warfare (IW)
Intro: Though conventional and irregular warfare (IW) are both forms of warfare with the desired
objective of affecting the opposition s government, the means by which they achieve that objective
differ greatly. A major war against a near peer competitor would likely place the Marine Corps against
another military superpower. Preparation for such a conflict would ideally focus on tactics suited for a
conventional military. Meanwhile, preparing for success against an irregular threat would conversely
focus on non traditional and indirect means and skills intended to earn or degrade trust and support
from the target population. As state and non state actors place more emphasis on IW, preparation for
success against irregular threats increases rather than undermines the Marine Corps ability to fight and
win a major war against near peer competitors. Point 1: It s the future... because ... Show more content

The expected progression of forthcoming combat operations involves a significant rise of IW as
highlighted in the Irregular Warfare Joint Operating Concept v1.0, The future security environment
includes a mix of military and non military challenges by state and non state actors to US national
security, with IW as the favored form of warfare of those who would be our adversaries. The rise of
political, religious, and ethnic extremist ideologies fuels conflicts worldwide (DoD, pg. 9). This is not
to say that irregular means are used exclusively by small, militant fringe groups, as stated in the
Irregular Warfare Joint Operating Concept v2.0 while violent extremist organizations and other non
state adversaries have turned to irregular forms of warfare as effective ways to counter traditional
military powers, such methods are not limited to use by non state actors (DoD, pg.

Classical And Human Relations Perspective
Classical perspective and human relations perspective are two approaches I and fellow school leaders
can use to analyze, and solve problems we might encounter on the job. As a school leader, I would
lead using principles from the human relations perspective, because it cultivates an environment of
shared leadership and collaboration. The classical organizational perspective in my opinion is too rigid
and tradtional. According to Owen s and Valensky, the classical perspective principle focuses on
hierarchy, unity of command, and span of control. A school leader who puts value on classical
perspective overall believes in a structured chain of command, and that they have the authority and
responsibility of everything at school. Our school system is structured with classical principles, and
hierarchy levels. These are things we can t really control. However, we can have a choice in the way
we decide to lead our school. I have personally seen how a top down type of school management
philosophy has hurt school culture and performance in a negative way. Our world is changing and
with this leadership needs to change. We live in an era where collaboration is highly valued. The
principles of the human relations perspective I believe are most useful in leading the schools of today.
These principles foster a collaborative and transformative school environment. Owens and Valensky
reported that the human relations perspective focuses on the individuals and motivation to

Exegetical Study on Corinthians
Exegetical study on: 1 Corinthians 14:1 6 Principles of Biblical Interpretation Dr. Dale Hutchcraft
10/23/09 Alex Sullins The passage that I chose to exegete is 1 Corinthians 14:1 6, the main idea of this
passage is for the apostle Paul to confront the Corinthian church in Corinth about their misuse of the
spiritual gifts, namely the use of tongues. The following is a full outline of the passage with the main
point of each verse, it goes as follows: 1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially
that you may prophesy. Paul starts out this verse strongly with the word pursue and earnestly showing
the importance he is putting on pursuing the spiritual gifts. He stresses the importance though of the
gift ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The NT understands prophecy to be a divine and inspired message from God. This word has several
meanings: a) To proclaim the revelation, the message of God, imparted to the prophet. b) Prophecy
can have a special sense to foretell or proclaim future events. c) Prophecy can also mean to bring to
light by prophetic speech something concealed. d) In Paul the word denotes teaching, admonishing,
and comforting (1 Cor. 14:3) e) In Acts 19:6 it shows that prophecy is used to inspire and ecstatic
magnifying God (Acts 10:46) (Kittel). Only Paul speaks of the gift of prophecy, in some instances as
in 1 Th. 5:20 it is not clear whether the reference is to the prophetic gift or the prophetic saying
(Friedrich). Verse 2 Verse 2 explains that the misuse of tongues was one of Corinthians major
problems in their exercises of their spiritual gifts during worship (Blomberg). When speaking in
tongues they felt enlarged and elevated, their whole being was for a time expanded by this emotion
(Exell). These gifts are all used by the spirit, in understanding these gifts it is essential to understand
what the spirit is. In Jewish thought the spirit denotes the power that humans experience that relates
them to the spiritual realm, the realm that lies beyond human control (TDNT). The human spirit is the
aspect of a person that God most immediately encounters him or her (Rom. 8:16) the spirit is also
referred to as the

Quantum Technology Essay
While the current leaders in the field of quantum computing are undoubtable Google and IBM they
tend to keep the details of how their quantum computers to work a secret, only releasing the
capabilities of their current machines occasionally. So, instead we must look to D Wave, a Canadian
company that was the first to commercially sell quantum computers, specifically their most recent
model, the 2000Q. This machine isn t quite the super computer that was hypothetically brought up in
the previous section, but instead, according to the company s website it is hyper focused on a single
task, finding the minimum value of a complex system [10]. Like all quantum computers, it uses qubits
instead of classical bits, and like the name implies, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other quantum aspect to this computer is that the quantum states may overlap with neighboring
magnets, which to put straightforwardly, means that they can act collectively [11]. This is important
because there could be a scenario where an individual magnet flipping would cause the energy state to
increase while several flipping at the same time would cause the energy state to decrease [11]. This
switch of several simultaneously would ordinarily be highly unlikely, but due to the quantum states
overlapping there is a much higher probability of this occurring [11]. Though cooling the chip down to
near absolute zero the magnets will realign themselves many times, each time at a lower energy state,
eventually reaching what is very likely the correct solution [10] To account for the fact that it isn t
guaranteed to be the best answer the computer will return several values scaled to show which if the
answers is optimal [10]. The black box housing the chip not only houses the cooling unit, but also
helps to regulate many other environmental factors. One of the more important ones is that it shields
to 50,000 times less than Earth s magnetic field which is very important considering that the qubits are
themselves small magnets [10]. It also reduces pressure to ten billion times lower than standard
atmospheric pressure which makes sure that there aren t stray gas particles floating around in the
magnetic fields [10]. And one

Building up Trust Between Customers and Entrepreneur s...
Hello, The document you uploaded for this order:
103870Guidelines_for_Writing_an_Executive_Summary.docx is available on the internet. I read this
document prior to writing an executive summary for this assignment. Moreover, I incorporated its
principles into the executive summary I completed for this assignment. I don t know what you think
should be done differently in fulfilling this 5 page executive summary with four sources which is what
the instructions for this assignment stipulate, and which is what I wrote and included. Thanks. The
principle way for any business to establish trust and rapport with customers is through peer related
interactions. Quite simply, customers do not believe information provided to them by watchdog
organizations or by company overviews and documentation boasting about their products and
services. They do, however, believe and trust their relationships with their peers. Once their peers can
provide information and recommendations about an organization, people are substantially more likely
to utilize its products and services. Trust also plays an integral role in the principle method of revenue
collection for an online entity. There is evidence that suggests that the best way of pursuing this goal,
once there is a degree of trust between customers and a business, is through credit cards. It is worth
noting that Elsa Entrepreneur s odds for increasing her business s propensity for exploiting peer
relationships and credit card usage is

Summary Of So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans
So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans In So Mexicans are Taking Jobs from Americans,
Jimmy Santiago Baca defends Mexicans against the opinion many Americans have about them filling
in jobs they do not want such as hard working labor in the fields. However, many Americans don t
realize that these Mexican workers are usually paid less than an American would be paid. In the
beginning of the poem Baca addresses the American stereotype of Mexicans taking jobs from
Americans in a very sarcastic manner. He continues by saying that Mexicans are not taking their jobs,
and explains how Mexicans come to America to try to make a living for their family, which they are
not able to get in Mexico. The poem is full of stereotypical symbolism that illustrates the
misinterpretation Americans have when it comes to Mexicans. Americans have this stereotypical view
of Mexicans taking their jobs away not realizing that Mexicans cannot take away something that
Americans have given up in the first place. Within the first lines Baca says, And do you, gringo, take
off your ring, drop your wallet into a blanket spread over the ground, and walk away? (4 6) the words
you , gringo , and your implies that Baca is addressing Americans. He is making fun of Americans by
saying that they act like victims when they are not. Because it is not as if Americans simply allow
Mexicans to take their jobs away, as if they are allowing this to happen and are doing nothing about it
because that is not the

  • 3. Examples Of Hubris In The Necklace And The Cask Of... One is a story of revenge and murder, the other a story of greed and materialism. On the surface, the short stories appear quite different, but at their heart, a similar drive beats within the three main characters, determining their actions and altering the pathways of their lives. The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe is a story of the proud Montresor, obsessed with getting revenge on the foolish Fortunato. The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant, is a story of a beautiful woman who felt she belonged to an upper class but was forced to live a banal, ordinary life. While the plots of these two short stories are different, the central characters all share the overarching quality of an obsessive pride hubris. This hubris comes in many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And the motto? Nemo me impune lacessit (Poe 1). Simply translated, this means no one provokes me with impunity. The family motto indicates that pride of family honor has been a long standing and well guarded trait. Montresor s ancestry and history of pride elevates his grievance against Fortunato, and evokes an attack because he dared to belittle Montresor s honorable name. In fact, Montresor s pride is still so great, and his remorse so little, that he continues to gasconade about his revenge fifty years after the event. The pride of his family name forces Montresor to murder Fortunato, conclusively and irreversibly directing his decisions throughout the short story. In The Cask of Amontillado , Montresor is not the only character who displays an overwhelming and ultimately detrimental sense of pride. Fortunato is also a very prideful man who is willing to go to great lengths to maintain his honor and reputation. For him, it is his reputation as a fine wine expert that he must defend. Fortunato s pride overrides his common sense and is the driving force of the deadly decisions he makes throughout the story. Montresor claims to possess a bottle of the expensive and highly regarded Amontillado wine. He tells Fortunato that he has called an expert, Luchresi, to inspect the wine. Fortunato forces Montresor to take him to the vaults because he is certain that [Montresor has] been imposed upon. And as for Luchresi, he cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Positive And Political Impacts Of The Olympic Games The Olympics are a wonderful metaphor for world cooperation, the kind of international competition that s wholesome and healthy, an interplay between countries that represents the best in all of us, said John Williams, the composer for theme music for the Olympics (8). The Olympic Games are international sports festivals that began in ancient Greece. The first ancient Olympics can be traced back to 776 BC when people held this religious festival to honour Zeus, the father of all the Greek gods and goddesses. We destroyed [Hitler s] master race theory whenever we started winning those gold medals, said runner John Woodruff (7). John Woodruff was a black man who won a gold medal. Another African American Jesse Owens won four track and field gold medals. These two people defied the Aryan ideal that Hitler believed that Aryan dominated the world. Another important impact the Olympic brought happened in 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. In that Olympics, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon refused to participate because of a dispute over the Suez Canal; Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands boycotted the Games in protest over the Soviet Union s invasion of Hungary; China boycotted the Games because a flag of Taiwan was raised in the Olympic Village. The original purpose of the Olympics was to make the countries collaborate, however, it also brought negative impacts. Another example is that Olympics in Mexico city in 1968. These men and women protect us stateside and fight for our country abroad during war times. Loyalty is not only taught from the day they enter the service, but it is earned throughout their career. What happens to the well being of our veterans when their military career has ended? Is the United States as loyal to these veterans as they were to us? The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers healthcare to veterans when returning from war. Unfortunately, too many veterans are not receiving adequate or timely care due to delays, poor record keeping, and mismanagement of fund. Josh Hicks, author at The Washing Post, says that the Veterans Affairs has an ongoing problem of delays in servicing veterans. Phoenix VA hospital kept delays off the books with secret wait lists that allegedly included dozens of patients who died while waiting for care (Hicks 1). Several patients died at an Atlanta clinic because of mismanagement (Hicks 1). A Department clinic in Fort Collins, Colorado, falsified appointment records to give the impression that staff doctors saw patients within the agency s goal of 14 days (Hicks 1). In addition to these issues, other veterans waiting to hear if their disability claims had been approved for care were waiting in excess of 125 days without determination. The United States is the only industrialized major nation in the world without health care, and the debate about changing that has become a popular issue recently. The sharp difference between the two sides is a difference in ethical values; those for universal health care desire to see the government help others, mainly the lower class, and those who do not, wish that private companies be allowed to continue taking advantage of the status quo for profit. Private insurance companies can inflate the price of their service if they desire. A universal healthcare system prevents that because it is run by the government.[2] I personally understand health care cost, and spending is a major concern for our society. Many governments around the world have established all embracing health care, which takes the burden of health care expenses off of private businesses or individuals through pooling of financial possibility. There are tons of arguments for universal health care, and related health care practices. Health care is an important part of health systems, and therefore, it often accounts for one of the largest areas of high spending for both governments and individuals all over the world. For example, medical debt is now a leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States. A policy should be created to help lower the cost of health care.2 One way that would help improve health care spending is to create a universal health care to make sure everyone is covered. By creating this, it will help decrease the number of lobbyers which in turn will cut government funding to those special interest groups. There are 45 million Americans uninsured and according to CNN report, 45,000 Americans die each year due to lack of affordable health care. • 12. A Summary Of Gram-Negative Bacteria Introduction Every winter the snow falls, and people get sick. Both of these items have components in common. Both the snow that falls, and the bacteria that gets people sick may be small, but when allowed to accumulate, characteristics of them become visible. While snow is made from frozen water, with flakes differentiating in the structure of them, bacteria is like that, to a sense. Certain bacteria families may have similar genomes, they do have slight differences that make up what they are. Just like snow being made of frozen water, bacteria is made up of the same four genomes. They re just in a different order, which makes them unique One way to tell the difference is to see if the bacteria is gram positive or gram negative. Gram Positive bacteria contains peptidoglycan (which is a polymer of amino acids and sugars), while Gram Negative Bacteria does not have as much. (Holbrook, 24) Because Gram Positive contain peptidoglycan, they do not form string in the KOH test. The opposite is true for Gram Negative it will form a string due to its chemical makeup. The Gram Positive bacteria uses the peptidoglycan to act as a wall, so the KOH will not react with it. However, the cell membrane on the Gram Negative bacteria reacts with the KOH, which creates a slight polar charge on the bacteria, which causes it to form a string. If too much force was added by pulling on the toothpick, this causes the string to break. Therefore, when applying the KOH string test, one must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him. (Luke 23:22). In a way Pilate seems to be defending Jesus like the defendant in Jefferson s trial, trying to see what the jury wants to happen, also trying to bail him out; Though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:9) But this man has done nothing wrong (Luke 23:41). The fact that Mr. Gropé shot only Brother and Bear was proof of Jefferson s innocence. (Gaines, 7). Also known as rap music, it is consistent with fast rhythmic vocals that gained popularity for speaking the raw truth of matters many people were scared to deal with. Artists originally used this creative platform in order to give a voice to the urban poverty in America. However, the main issue in urban areas changed. The matter became more about the increase in violence particularly towards the harassment black communities faced by police. Consequently, rap music became more violent to this new racial uproar in the streets. It developed a new subgenre of rap called gangsta rap. Moreover, racial abuse continued to be present in the urban streets, such as the 1992 Los Angeles riots. Because of this gangsta rap remained as the main component of hip hop to this day. Due to its explicit presentation of violence, it is assumed to be a genre of unconscious vulgarity causing critics to deem it as detrimental to society. However, rap music does not cause violence but instead brings awareness to the violence already present to the world, specifically urban areas. Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use of excessive force or even deadly force. The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision. Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason that Dickinson did this is because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period when it was written. In Sophocles Play Oedipus Oedipus and His Tragic Traits In Sophocles play Oedipus the King, Sophocles depicts the horrible fate of Oedipus, a pompous, arrogant young ruler. The story begins in the Greek town of Thebes. A plague has descended upon the Thebians causing death and famine throughout the land. Oedipus, being the heroic king, takes full responsibility to find out the cause of their aliments. While working to discover the source of the plague, Oedipus stumbles upon the tragic truth of his heritage and the horrifying implications of his appointment to the throne. Unfortunately for Oedipus, everything ends in tragedy. With the suicide of his mother/wife and the self inflicted blindness followed by exile from Thebes, Oedipus paved the path to his own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the end, Tiresias explains that Oedipus is to blame for Laius s death, for he is the murderer. Oedipus naturally denies the claim and accuses Creon and Tiresias of conspiring against him, so that Creon can gain power. Even though Oedipus is in denial, he still adamantly seeks the truth held by the shepherd. He sends for him, and upon arrival the shepherd was timid to reveal the truth. Oedipus responded by calling to the guards, Twist his arm back, quickly! (line 1269) In the end of this scene Jocasta, wife of Oedipus, realizes the truth behind who her husband really is, and that the prophecy had been fulfilled and runs away. Oedipus then continues to question the shepherd further because he still fails to see what is right in front of him. This brings the audience to the third and fourth characteristics of Aristotle s tragic hero: the reversal of fortune and the recognition that it was self inflicted. In a rush of realization, Oedipus sees the truth that was in front of him and the audience throughout entire play. Oedipus, in utter agony, cries out and starts cursing the shepherd who had freed his ankles as a child. (lines 1481 1487) He then sees the correlation that marks him the killer of King Laius. The most horrifying realization to Oedipus was that he in fact had wed and procreated with his own mother. At this point heroic Oedipus has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Ambush By Tim O Brien Summary War Changes People (A Discussion of 3 Messages from Ambush) Sometimes the smallest things can be the biggest surprises. Tim O Brien is an award winning fiction writer. He wrote a short story, Ambush, about a man, Tim, who has gone to war and ended up throwing a grenade and killing another soldier. He felt very guilty and ever since has always remembered it. The soldiers also carry stories: stories that connect the past to the future ... (Calloway). These stories are never forgotten and will forever be known and thought about. Many events that happen in this story come out surprising to the readers. In Ambush, by Tim O Brien, there are 3 important messages or big surprises. The biggest and most obvious surprise in Tim O Brien s story, Ambush, is when Tim threw the back the grenade, killing the other soldier. This was a big surprise because the man wasn t into killing people and never really wanted to kill anybody. He was really shocked that he did that and felt guilty afterwards. In Ambush, by Tim O Brien he says, There was no thoughts about killing (O Brien 812). It was never his goal to kill the guy, but it was his duty and mission as a soldier. Later, his friend then told him that it was a good kill and to think about if the roles were reversed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to respond while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told, Shotwell and the narrator do not trust each other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the other if they start to behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme uses repetition to show how the narrator s mind is deteriorating while being confined in a small space, isolated from everyone except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about what to do. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers, believe that his mind is deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for one hundred thirty three days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep himself reminded. Although, it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in isolation and it starts to make him think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and focus on about how they are both unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the readers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Pleistocene Ice Ages Throughout the Pleistocene ice ages, large areas of the earth were covered by vast ice sheets. Global sea levels dropped up to 120 metres below present day coastlines, exposing large areas of land that were once flooded by shallow seas. These lands became colonised by vegetation, animals, birds and insects over time. During the Ice Age, the island continent to the south east of Asia comprised New Guinea, Australia and Tasmania as a single land mass. Separating this continent from Asia was a narrow sea about one hundred kilometres wide, over which the first ocean crossings were made sometime before 60,000 years ago. These ancient mariners became the founding peoples of Australia. They were faced with a strange land that was vastly different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Impact of Corporate Governance on Firm Performance in... Introduction Corporate governance is a field in economics that investigates how to secure/motivate efficient management of corporations by the use of incentive mechanisms, such as contracts, organizational designs and legislation. This is often limited to the question of improving financial performance, for example, how the corporate owners can secure/motivate that the corporate managers will deliver a competitive rate of return. (Mathiesen, 2002). Another definition is Corporate Governance is concerned with holding the balance between economic and social goals and between individual and communal goals. The corporate governance framework is there to encourage the efficient use of resources and equally to require accountability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chhaochharia and Grinstein (2007) looked at the impact of the 2002 governance rules established by the Sarbanes Oxley Act on firm value. They found that less compliant firms earn positive abnormal returns compared to more compliant firms. They also found that less compliant large firms earn positive abnormal returns but less compliant small firms earn negative abnormal returns. Bhagat and Bolton (2008) examined the relationship between corporate governance and performance, and found that better corporate governance, board members stock ownership, and CEO Chair separation are positively related to operating performance. They also found that the probability of management turnover is positively related to board members stock ownership and board independence when firms perform poorly. Patibandla (2006) examined the ownership structure and firm performance on Indian firms by separating large investors into private foreignin stitutional investors and government owned local financial institutions. Patibandla found a positive relationship between private foreign institutional investors and firm profitability and a negative relationship between government owned local financial institutions and firm profitability. • 41. Irregular Warfare (IW) Intro: Though conventional and irregular warfare (IW) are both forms of warfare with the desired objective of affecting the opposition s government, the means by which they achieve that objective differ greatly. A major war against a near peer competitor would likely place the Marine Corps against another military superpower. Preparation for such a conflict would ideally focus on tactics suited for a conventional military. Meanwhile, preparing for success against an irregular threat would conversely focus on non traditional and indirect means and skills intended to earn or degrade trust and support from the target population. As state and non state actors place more emphasis on IW, preparation for success against irregular threats increases rather than undermines the Marine Corps ability to fight and win a major war against near peer competitors. The rise of political, religious, and ethnic extremist ideologies fuels conflicts worldwide (DoD, pg. 9). This is not to say that irregular means are used exclusively by small, militant fringe groups, as stated in the Irregular Warfare Joint Operating Concept v2.0 while violent extremist organizations and other non state adversaries have turned to irregular forms of warfare as effective ways to counter traditional military powers, such methods are not limited to use by non state actors (DoD, pg. ... • 42. Classical And Human Relations Perspective Classical perspective and human relations perspective are two approaches I and fellow school leaders can use to analyze, and solve problems we might encounter on the job. As a school leader, I would lead using principles from the human relations perspective, because it cultivates an environment of shared leadership and collaboration. The classical organizational perspective in my opinion is too rigid and tradtional. According to Owen s and Valensky, the classical perspective principle focuses on hierarchy, unity of command, and span of control. A school leader who puts value on classical perspective overall believes in a structured chain of command, and that they have the authority and responsibility of everything at school. Our school system is structured with classical principles, and hierarchy levels. These are things we can t really control. However, we can have a choice in the way we decide to lead our school. I have personally seen how a top down type of school management philosophy has hurt school culture and performance in a negative way. Our world is changing and with this leadership needs to change. We live in an era where collaboration is highly valued. The principles of the human relations perspective I believe are most useful in leading the schools of today. These principles foster a collaborative and transformative school environment. Owens and Valensky reported that the human relations perspective focuses on the individuals and motivation to ... • 43. Exegetical Study on Corinthians Exegetical study on: 1 Corinthians 14:1 6 Principles of Biblical Interpretation Dr. Dale Hutchcraft 10/23/09 Alex Sullins The passage that I chose to exegete is 1 Corinthians 14:1 6, the main idea of this passage is for the apostle Paul to confront the Corinthian church in Corinth about their misuse of the spiritual gifts, namely the use of tongues. The following is a full outline of the passage with the main point of each verse, it goes as follows: 1 Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. Paul starts out this verse strongly with the word pursue and earnestly showing the importance he is putting on pursuing the spiritual gifts. He stresses the importance though of the gift ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The NT understands prophecy to be a divine and inspired message from God. This word has several meanings: a) To proclaim the revelation, the message of God, imparted to the prophet. b) Prophecy can have a special sense to foretell or proclaim future events. c) Prophecy can also mean to bring to light by prophetic speech something concealed. d) In Paul the word denotes teaching, admonishing, and comforting (1 Cor. 14:3) e) In Acts 19:6 it shows that prophecy is used to inspire and ecstatic magnifying God (Acts 10:46) (Kittel). Only Paul speaks of the gift of prophecy, in some instances as in 1 Th. 5:20 it is not clear whether the reference is to the prophetic gift or the prophetic saying (Friedrich). Verse 2 Verse 2 explains that the misuse of tongues was one of Corinthians major problems in their exercises of their spiritual gifts during worship (Blomberg). When speaking in tongues they felt enlarged and elevated, their whole being was for a time expanded by this emotion (Exell). These gifts are all used by the spirit, in understanding these gifts it is essential to understand what the spirit is. In Jewish thought the spirit denotes the power that humans experience that relates them to the spiritual realm, the realm that lies beyond human control (TDNT). The human spirit is the aspect of a person that God most immediately encounters him or her (Rom. 8:16) the spirit is also referred to as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Quantum Technology Essay While the current leaders in the field of quantum computing are undoubtable Google and IBM they tend to keep the details of how their quantum computers to work a secret, only releasing the capabilities of their current machines occasionally. So, instead we must look to D Wave, a Canadian company that was the first to commercially sell quantum computers, specifically their most recent model, the 2000Q. This machine isn t quite the super computer that was hypothetically brought up in the previous section, but instead, according to the company s website it is hyper focused on a single task, finding the minimum value of a complex system [10]. Like all quantum computers, it uses qubits instead of classical bits, and like the name implies, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other quantum aspect to this computer is that the quantum states may overlap with neighboring magnets, which to put straightforwardly, means that they can act collectively [11]. This is important because there could be a scenario where an individual magnet flipping would cause the energy state to increase while several flipping at the same time would cause the energy state to decrease [11]. This switch of several simultaneously would ordinarily be highly unlikely, but due to the quantum states overlapping there is a much higher probability of this occurring [11]. Though cooling the chip down to near absolute zero the magnets will realign themselves many times, each time at a lower energy state, eventually reaching what is very likely the correct solution [10] To account for the fact that it isn t guaranteed to be the best answer the computer will return several values scaled to show which if the answers is optimal [10]. The black box housing the chip not only houses the cooling unit, but also helps to regulate many other environmental factors. One of the more important ones is that it shields to 50,000 times less than Earth s magnetic field which is very important considering that the qubits are themselves small magnets [10]. It also reduces pressure to ten billion times lower than standard atmospheric pressure which makes sure that there aren t stray gas particles floating around in the magnetic fields [10]. And one ... I read this document prior to writing an executive summary for this assignment. Moreover, I incorporated its principles into the executive summary I completed for this assignment. I don t know what you think should be done differently in fulfilling this 5 page executive summary with four sources which is what the instructions for this assignment stipulate, and which is what I wrote and included. Thanks. The principle way for any business to establish trust and rapport with customers is through peer related interactions. Quite simply, customers do not believe information provided to them by watchdog organizations or by company overviews and documentation boasting about their products and services. They do, however, believe and trust their relationships with their peers. Once their peers can provide information and recommendations about an organization, people are substantially more likely to utilize its products and services. Trust also plays an integral role in the principle method of revenue collection for an online entity. There is evidence that suggests that the best way of pursuing this goal, once there is a degree of trust between customers and a business, is through credit cards. It is worth noting that Elsa Entrepreneur s odds for increasing her business s propensity for exploiting peer relationships and credit card usage is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Summary Of So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans In So Mexicans are Taking Jobs from Americans, Jimmy Santiago Baca defends Mexicans against the opinion many Americans have about them filling in jobs they do not want such as hard working labor in the fields. However, many Americans don t realize that these Mexican workers are usually paid less than an American would be paid. In the beginning of the poem Baca addresses the American stereotype of Mexicans taking jobs from Americans in a very sarcastic manner. He continues by saying that Mexicans are not taking their jobs, and explains how Mexicans come to America to try to make a living for their family, which they are not able to get in Mexico. The poem is full of stereotypical symbolism that illustrates the misinterpretation Americans have when it comes to Mexicans. Americans have this stereotypical view of Mexicans taking their jobs away not realizing that Mexicans cannot take away something that Americans have given up in the first place. Within the first lines Baca says, And do you, gringo, take off your ring, drop your wallet into a blanket spread over the ground, and walk away? (4 6) the words you , gringo , and your implies that Baca is addressing Americans. He is making fun of Americans by saying that they act like victims when they are not. Because it is not as if Americans simply allow Mexicans to take their jobs away, as if they are allowing this to happen and are doing nothing about it because that is not the ...
