Social networking is a vital resource for bereaved youth (Williams & Merten, 2009, Carrol & Landry, 2010) to express their grief and find support. Youth describe feeling overwhelmed following the death of a peer; for street-involved youth, in particular, their feelings of loss, anger and despair may lead to increased substance use and suicide ideation. This presentation will discuss key findings of qualitative interviews with 20 Victoria, BC street-involved youth including the strategies they use to make their way online, the ways they cope with a constant and often overwhelming number of deaths in their community and their frustrations in trying to determine to what extent [online] declarations of grief are public posturing and to what extent they are genuine, personal expressions of deep feeling (Dobler, 2006, p.180).
Fortunately, I came across countless research studies about gratitude. How it reduced anxiety, depression, emotional exhaustion, and even suicidal thoughts, while boosting happiness and satisfaction with life. How it lowered blood pressure, boosted immunity, and encouraged healthy habits while improving sleep.
Research even suggested that gratitude improved the quality of romance and marriage! Now that seemed like an irresistible offer.
I started collecting practical tips for living in a more grateful way, and started trying them out. Warning: these ways of practicing gratitude could seriously damage your unhappiness!

In the European Union today, SMEs are economically important with 98% of an estimated 19.3 million enterprises defined as SMEs, providing around 65 million jobs. Again, almost all of these are small enterprises, with 18 million enterprises (93.2%) employing less than ten people and only 35,000 enterprises employing more than 250 people. The average European business provides employment for four people, including the owner/manager.
Figures show that SMEs account for roughly two thirds (66%) of employment within the EU, with micro enterprises accounting for 34%, small enterprises accounting for 19% and medium-sized enterprises accounting for 13%; more than half (52%) of private sector turnover within the EU, average turnover being approximately 500,000 Euros (EUROSTAT 2003).

Social entrepreneurship verses Business EntrepreneurshipFRANCIS BUKENYA
Social entrepreneurs are practical visionaries who possess qualities traditionally associated with leading business entrepreneurs – vision – innovation – determination and long-term commitment – but are dedicated to a systematic social change in their chosen field.

In four major areas—women’s rights, education, health, and labor force outcomes—the gains in the second half of the 20th century were large and fast in many parts of the world. Improvements that took 100 years in wealthier countries took just 40 years in some low- and middle-income countries.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

7. Dedication
I dedicate this book to the many young people, women and
men that will reach out to build an Africa that they can be
proud of. An Africa that maintains its warmth, humanity
and unique traditional ways and styles in a way that bridges
towards a future where women are no longer suppressed;
an Africa where those women will feel empowered and take
responsibility to ensure that their voice is heard.
I dedicate it as well to the men with vision, who start
to recognize that without the voice of women as equal
partners, they too will be locked in the past.
My thanks to all of your efforts, dear reader, for each step
you make – whether in your home, community, or country,
towards this new Africa.

8. Acknowledgment
There are many people without whom this book could not
have been written, to whom I am very grateful for their
care, council, support, constructive criticism, and for the
opportunities they offered me to grow into a man.
First of all, my eternal gratitude to Mrs. Rovin Nalumansi
Bukenya and Mr. Joreme Bukenya, who came to be my
grandparents when they took me in their home as a baby,
raised me and made sure I inherited a sense of value for life.
Fr. Michael Mukasa (Phd.), who supported me throughout
my youth, took care of my education and has made sure I
learned to look after becoming an independent mind when the
time was right. I do love him deeply.
With deep gratitude I also think of my uncle Vincent
SSekanwagi for his love and care, and many life lessons.
My complete and large extended family, which ensured that I
know what it means to share…
Mr. and Mrs. Donna Loui Finocchiarro and family, and
Linda Gibbs and family for allowing me to look back at my
youth with a smile and endearment, knowing that good is in
the world.
Miss Annet Kyokunda, thank you for taking care of me, not
minding my background, after that terrible traffic accident.
Michael, my friend, who has been that special friend each of
9. us needs in life, thank you for that special friendship.
My secretary, Mercy Tonui, who spent many a good hour
typing up my thoughts and ideas, and helped me put order in
my mind.
Dana Bjerregaard and Elizabeth Hamill I thank warmly for
editing the English.
I wish to thank and express my love here too, for the shelter
and support I received from Mr. and Mrs. John Njuguna’s
family during the horrible events of the post election violence
in 2007-2008 in Molo as well as Mr. and Mrs. Shadrack Soi in
Kericho. Their love has made me a better man and I wish them
peace in their hearts. Nawapenda Sana!
Thank you to Janny Slagman, without whose support and
guidance, spiritually and practically, this work would not be
in your hands. Thank you very much for questioning me, and
editing and complementing on this book. I thank you for your
care, love and advice.
And Feminenza, who’s ladies and gentlemen, touched my
life in a way that I never expected, by making me feel fully
accepted and no longer afraid of sharing the story of my life.
It is where I found healing from my pain. Feminenza’s work on
peace, forgiveness and reconciliation reached me at a turning
point in my life and that moment ensured that this book is now
in your hands. But more about that in my next book…..

11. About the Author,
Francis Bukenya
When you sit across a table in conversation with Francis,
you quickly realize you are meeting with one of those bright
enterprising people that have a fire in their eyes, a belief in
their soul, and a kindness in their heart that are like rough
jewels in the process of being polished. You come to know
when engaging with him that he is sharp, perceptive, analytical
and keen to use himself towards the betterment of the future
of all men and women alike. He knows that each human has
the key to their future in their own hands… if only they find
the Will Power and Capacity to take it and do something
constructive with it.
Francis inspires many of his peers, as well as the younger
upcoming generation, to never give up hope for a better
future, by empowering them through capacity building, skill
development, business training, but most of all, by what he is
himself: A man that will never give up the vision of a better
life being possible for all…
Born in Uganda, Francis was cast away at his birth by his
mother, although the story of why, what and how, up to today
has never really become known to him. He was found at 7 days
old and taken in by a family who became the cushion of beliefs
he now cherishes and the anchor of values he actively upholds.
In a society where one’s background can influence one’s future
according to traditionally set patterns, the journey towards
12. freeing himself from the stigma of being abandoned has been
a journey from which today, Francis draws the compassion,
love, honor and longing for peaceful co-existence between all
peoples. Through the pain of his history, Francis endeavors to
understand the pain of others, understand their potential, and
be the best he can be to help others to release their potential
towards being constructive, humane, successful and forgiving
human beings.
It is an inspiration to sit and talk with Francis, and I am
sure that you, the reader of this book, will be able to draw
inspiration from his messages, as he guides you through this
book towards finding your own success, getting fuelled by the
knowing it can be done…. That you yourself can also make a
difference, in your own life and that of others.
Janny Slagman, the Netherlands

Francis was born in Uganda and is a musician, song writer,
international workshop conductor for peace, motivation, inspiration
and poverty eradication projects, an experienced community capacity
building agent and industrial researcher, and a small scale industrial
business consultant. Through his work he has become an ambassador
of Peace, Forgiveness & Reconciliation and founder of P.E.A.P.
AFRICA (Poverty Eradication Action Plan Africa).
The author was born to a woman in Uganda, but was dumped near
someone’s house seven days after birth. A little note was found with
him, stating ‘take care of him, he is seven days old’.
13. From his 25 years of life so far, he learned to live his own life to see
a positive change in other people’s lives and help them to break the
lock of their circumstances.
“If we want a bright future, we should overcome the
temptation of locking ourselves up in the past which can
never serve the current and future needs of humanity.
Unless we find out what good we can extract from our
painful past, we will remain slaves to our history.” Yes I was
dumped, but God never dumps anybody. Instead He nourishes
the life that He has created deep within us.
Despite the fact that abortion is on a high rate in the world
today, I thank God I was simply dumped and not aborted.
The ease with which, in my country, pregnancies just ‘happen’
and abortions are carried out with similar casualness, often
inflicting severe damage, and even causing death, fills me with
sadness and pain. Surely it is possible to have people treat this
issue with greater responsibility!
I am very grateful to God to be alive today! The very fact that
I was dumped, picked up and taken care of by someone has
made me what I am today. We should learn to not identify too
much with our past actions nor with the actions in the past of
others and so, I can’t judge my mother.
Life is sacred, and the sacredness of life should not be
tampered with. This means taking responsibility, to ensure
that no one has to put themselves through mutilation of their
bodies or go through the trauma of having to cast ones child
off!
In my thinking, whatever the circumstances, I believe that if
14. my mother would have felt she had a choice, she wouldn’t have
had to dump me. My mother might have been very poor and
not able to afford taking care of me. I therefore forgive her
in the first place and secondly pray that she may have peace
wherever she may be. Judgments seem good as long as you are
not the one being judged. Since it is only in forgiveness that
we can have freedom, power, strength and joy, I forgave my
mother. Later in my life, this was the seeding of my motivation
of empowering the community, especially women. To break the
cycle of poverty that might have caused my mother to dump
me. It led me to the founding of POVERTY ERADICATION
ACTION PLAN AFRICA (P.E.A.P AFRICA)
And so far I have empowered more than 10,000 women in East
Africa and the world at large to learn how to be self-reliant.
I got motivated to work for peace, forgiveness and
reconciliation through music, talks and writing, because of the
fact that I lived as a volunteer with many people in different
camps (I.D.P) in the Northern part of Uganda from 2004 to
2007 and later experienced the turmoil of the Post-Election
Violence in Kenya in 2007-2008 in Nakuru, Molo, Kuresoi,
Kericho and finally in Eldoret. Here I continued with my
voluntary work in capacity building of the communities for the
sake of sustainable peace.
Goodness gives birth to goodness. The good you do will
always be part of you, so there is no need to fear giving it
away. Kindness and love are the only things that multiply as we
divide them. It is the only perfume we can pour on others of
which we will enjoy the scent as well.
Remember it is not whether you have the resources or not,
15. it is you knowing where you want to put the mark of your
existence on planet earth.
Always ask yourself these questions:
1. Where am I?
2. Why am I here?
3. Where do I want to go?
4. How do I get there?
Unless you know this, you will keep standing in the middle of
everything that is going on, not knowing who you are yourself.
This book will give you a strategy towards fulfillment of life
and success.
Make sure you live up to your abilities and potential. That is
what it means to live.
The main question in a person’s life is: “Who Am I?” What you
identify with will make your destiny. Search for what you wish
to identify with every moment if you don’t know yet who you
are and wish to be.
If you haven’t yet answered these questions, you better get at
it, before it is too late. No human being is born at home. We are
all born away from home. We therefore have to find our path to
our home.
Definiteness of purpose is the driving factor for humans on
their journey to success.
Make sure you find yours!

Preface
Life is like the war between the serpent and the bald eagle. Only
the confident, courageous, energetic, enthusiastic, optimistic
and flexible, those like the bald eagle, will succeed in it. This
guide will open up many secrets about life, success, fear and
courage, excellence and integrity.
With the current global financial crisis adding to the already
substantial demands on the lives of people, only those who
will be able to perceive practical, helpful, logical, reliable and
resourceful guidelines will achieve success.
What you listen to… MATTERS! We either listen to voices
that bring us down, or to those that encourage and move us
forward. The most important voices however, are those that go
on inside you. The choice however, will always remain ours!
The voices from within
1. F.E.A.R. = Fooling Element Along the Road of
Success
2. P.O.O.R. = Passing On Opportunities to the Rest
who already have
3. N.O.W. = No Other Way but to get started
4. Y.E.S. = You Experience Something (Direct

23. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 5
Whenever humans refuse to take responsibility humans will
fear. In this chapter we are going to learn what causes fear, why
people fear, how we can defeat fear and why to choose courage
instead of fear. We shall also learn about the factors that can lead
to success as a result of defeating fear in the pipeline of success.
In the Pipeline of success “Fear” is defined as The fooling
element along the road of success. Fear will easily fool you
and lead you into the full trap of failure preventing you from
getting to your final destination. Therefore, when you feel afraid
of tomorrow, try to remember what you overcame yesterday,
and remember you have today, as the best and only chance, for
you to achieve your dreams. Fear is caused by a person’s lack
of power to take control of the environment. Many times this
is caused by not understanding the facts about something or
the situation we fear. People’s search for security is as old as
humanity. Humans are always afraid of the unknown. But how
will you know what you fear? To break the power of fear calls
for the person to be in the pipeline of success. Therefore the
only option is to face and handle what we are afraid of. If
you happen to be inside the pipeline of success, you need nothing
else than to focus on your goals as your basic principle. We will
be empowered thereby to reason through our fears. You will
either face the challenges or they will face you out. To humans
nothing is too big to handle. If something is “impossible” we
simply make it possible by imposing the unfailing force of “will

FEAR BLOCKS SUCCESS
TOLERATE IT NOT
24. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS6
power.” If it is difficult, we simply give it our most unbreakable
power of positive thinking, and it gets done. The fire that will fill
the gap of fear is called focus. Just focus on the best thing you
can do amidst having fear. Even if you have never done it, try,
because without this you will lose yourself. Our freedom comes
only when we defeat being stopped by fear. Do not mind about
what people say. Every mountain has its own peak. That is what
you need to keep in mind. You will have to take responsibility for
the actions you take. Therefore everybody should be optimistic
and enthusiastic in the pipeline of success. These are necessities
whilst you start entering the pipeline of success. This gives all
those in the pipeline of success the wisdom to understand that no
one else will face your fears; no one else is going to take on that
task for you. Also realize that if any acknowledgement is given
to someone based on fear, then it is of no value. For example, if
there is a need to work together with your neighbor, nothing else
but respect is needed; fear does not need to be included. When
you enter into the field of your fears, fear will simply flee from
you. This sets you free to move to the final destination; success.
Once you forget the fact that you are a victor by the virtue of
your positive mental attitude, you can easily give in to fears.
Thinking positively is a necessity.
The thinking faculty has four branches:
1. Creative thinking
2. Problem solving
3. Decision making
4. Critical thinking
Hence when you feel afraid of anything, try your creative
thinking. Do something new and unique! Each of us will of
25. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 7
course be afraid when in a conflict situation, whether it is conflict
on a small scale or a large scale, like in warlike situations, when
a conflict can explode and simply leave you standing there
shaking. Take a deep breath and make sure you can think of
turning your fear towards finding a solution. Many people
are afraid of their job security. Instead of stopping at fear, why
don’t you think of self-employment measures? Try to think
about what you want and make a decision once and for all. Some
people fall into the ditch of failure just because they never take
time to critically analyze situations. They see every condition
as permanent. They don’t even scrutinize the new projects they
want to enter into. After a while, this leads to failure. Some
people don’t even dare try, just because they are afraid of taking
up the challenge of critical thinking. This keeps them locked
in the same situation forever. If you feel afraid of network
marketing, have you ever tried consulting the professionals in
that field? Maybe what you fear is what you deserve. Simply
think critically. Problem solving is what is required of any
person in the pipeline of success. A problem is merely there
for humans to find a solution for it. There are no unsolvable
problems on planet earth. It is simply lack of thinking that is
shadowing the problem as unsolvable. If you are afraid of the
problem that you may have to face in your project, and you are
stopped by it, then you are contributing to the very problem that
you are afraid of. Examine the environment and find out what
the strengths are that you need to be able to conquer that fear.
Why not to be the solution to the problem you fear? If you
won’t do something beyond your ordinary way and style, you
will simply continue ordinarily. Remember that it is when you
overcome fear that you will grow in an extraordinary way. The
world’s heroes and heroines are those who, when they met fear,
chose courage. That is what simply gave them strength to win.
26. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS8
If you are ruled by fear, you will not be able to do anything new.
Whenever I felt afraid, I went somewhere quiet, and I could feel
someone close to me. God is always with us, especially when we
are afraid and lonely. Don’t give in to fear. It freezes your thinking
and your ability to achieve. Instead, try to understand your fear
and handle it through focusing on set goals. It is also important
that whatever is frightening me, I make sure I call its name. I
found out that when I am afraid of something and I speak about
it, I stop fearing it. And I insist to like myself most when I begin
to fear. I accept myself as the best and nothing else. It is then
that fear flees from me. I do not look for safety outside of myself
but consider myself safer than my fears. In all this, I do not let
myself be mediocre. I will not be ruled by fear, and that is it.
Do not doubt about what you truly are. You are the courageous
and strongest of birds. The Bald Eagle - that is what you are
when you travel in the pipeline of success. Take a necessary
risk in life to achieve your goal when needed. Are you afraid of
death? Death is simply the fate for all us humans. But have you
ever thought about the talents that will die within you if you do
not live your life fully? That is the only real loss to the world.
To fear is to lose your sobriety. The mind gets broken down
when you give in to fear. Aggression is the result of fear.
Therefore, let no single element of it enter your mind. That is
the safest way. Find out the truth and facts of the matter or a
situation. Anything less than this will lead you into the depth of
the sea of fear. And surely you will fall. That is what fear does.
Always try to listen to the voices in you that encourage you to
find out why you fear and what the cause of it is. Ignorance
is the darkness that keeps fear growing within you. Make sure
you understand the situation you are in. The light to clear
the situation is the truth. Fear is an indispensable element for
survival, but it is crucial to find out which fears are useful and
27. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 9
which are not. Some fears will only fuel those emotions that
lock you in apathy. We don’t survive by becoming emotional
but by our rational power. Think in the right way about what
it is that you fear and you will get the answer to life. When
humans are faced with a challenge, they have two options: to
either challenge their limitations and face the challenges or be
limited by them. If you believe your fears should determine
your future, then you will not overcome your challenges. The
only way to learn sailing is by sailing. If you are afraid of the
storm then you can’t learn how to sail. In the same way you can
overcome fear. Do it. You can, if you think you can. It is you
who determines the force of that what you fear. If you think it
is too big for you to handle, you have given it victory over you.
If you rebuke it as minor, and work towards making it so, that’s
what it becomes. Try now. If the master determines to master
what he fears, he remains master. If you think of yourself being
inadequate, you will feel so. Always considers yourself powerful
beyond measure. When you set yourself free from fear, you set
all those around you free from fear. Fear is contagious, and when
you fear, those around you can easily start fearing too. There
is a power in humans which almost automatically influences
those around them. If you come across afraid to others, you
put fear and suspicion among those around you. Be mindful of
that; make sure that you do not spread the virus of your fears.
Again, fear is just a lack of understanding. And you always have
a choice. You can either accept fear or embrace the freedom the
growth of your talents gives you. Both choices are available.
This is because there is no victory without going into the battle.
When you give up your dreams of victory you will feel more
insecure. Therefore, it is your dreams that can protect you from
your fear. The future shouldn’t cause you anxiety, and neither
should the past. The present always presents you with an
28. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS10
}F.E.A.R.
opportunity to do what you never thought you would be able
to do. If there is any need for fear, it is the fear of not using
these opportunities. Therefore, don’t give in to fear. Instead
experiment with everything that comes to meet you. That is
what life means. “I have learned over the years that when one’s
mind is made up, this diminishes fear; knowing what must be
done does away with fear” said Rosa Parks. Search deep within
you for what you are supposed to do in that very moment that
you feel afraid. This will give you the guts to make it happen.
Therefore, in the pipeline of success, no fear will be able to stop
us. We make sure that when fear appears, we do what we think
we cannot do.
For fear is but the Fooling Element along the Road of Success.
F - fooling
E - element
A - along
R - road of success
29. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 11
In the pipeline of success, you are encouraged to dream, to believe in
your dreams, to take constant action, AND to love what you do. Then
you will always achieve. In this chapter we, as people walking in the
pipeline of success, are encouraged to follow the instructions that are
given us. Skipping one is losing it all. Those whose dreams are strongest
and those who take consistent action are the ones who achieve the most
in the competitive pipeline of success. People sometimes think they
can get rich simply by daydreaming. They simply forget that in
order to get rich, you need to develop a refined mind, integrity
and intelligence, become charismatic and be honest to yourself
and the world around you.
This is because being RICH MEANS;
R - Refined mind
I - Intelligence & Integrity
C - Charismatic
H - Honesty
The ticking of the clock will never stop just because you
stopped counting. Dream greater dreams and regularly take
a moment of meditation. This will give you the courage
to take action. It is by examination of our minds that we can
make the right decisions in life. The time has come for people
to understand that nothing came into this world merely by
CHAPTER TWO
CONNECT YOUR DREAMS
WITH ACTION
}RICH
30. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS12
looking sheepish. Everything good and great is because of great
people who had great dreams and who took the right action.
Many African countries today think poverty can be overcome
simply by a word! But corruption and greed for power keeps the
African people imprisoned in ignorance, apathy, dependency and
diseases. Honest exampleship by Africa’s leaders is rare. How
can they keep singing the song of overcoming extreme and
abject poverty unless this changes? Unless someone like you
and me will dream to change the trend of things no matter what
the cost and time it will take us, Africa will continue to crawl,
instead of moving. The merciless lion of extreme poverty will
continue to devour our beautiful continent. The powerhouse
of your dreams is for you to take action. Great People are
great because they took the right actions to make their dreams
come true. You can marry your dreams with success by first
dreaming, believing in those dreams, and then taking action
whilst keeping your focus on your dreams.
Guiding principles:
1. To achieve your dreams is to ignore those who are ready
to write you and your dreams off at a moment’s notice.
2. Trust no discussion that is discouraging to your well-
thought through ambition.
3. Believe nobody who is an obstacle to the fulfillment of
your dream. Simply ignore that person.
4. Allow no elements of apathy in the pipeline of success.
This will assassinate your dreams.
5. Make sure you make the right decisions. This will
31. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 13
give you the willingness and the readiness to face the
dream dismantlers.
6. Never be afraid of dreaming. It adds value to life.
You can only achieve success through dreaming and
persistently taking action.
My first dream was being a musician, which was indeed first
a dream and later became true on stage. I also used to dream
of becoming the head of my school. Right now I conduct
international workshops. See that if you dream to touch heaven,
you might at least touch the clouds in the sky. The lion is the
king of the jungle. The eagle is the king of the sky. Make sure
you dream your dreams. The space is always there. The world
is eagerly waiting for greater people than those that yesterday
delivered. You are next in the line of greatness. Play your cards
now and play them to the best of your ability. The time for it
- is now. Take action now because you might not get a second
chance. This is going to lead you to achieving your dreams.
Know however that not all dreams are achievable just because
you dream them. The one and only dream a human can be
successful at achieving is a dream believed in. Without belief
in the dream you can never take action. And action without
faith in it is useless. The dream will only become real and have
impact if the dream is actually achieved and becomes a reality.
So always commit yourself to great dreams. That is where your
importance to humanity can be found. You are quite possibly
one of the world’s next heroes just because of the dreams you
have. Try hard to implement them. A recent example is the 44th
President of the United States of America, President BARACK
OBAMA, who is an African-American. It was a dream come true
for many. I think you know that Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed
a great dream. He did not live to see the result of his dream, but
32. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS14
here we learn that you physically may not be around when your
dream becomes a reality, but because you ensured that others
started dreaming your dream with you, you built yourself a
team. A team that could make sure your dreams would survive
beyond your existence.
THE AFRICAN IDEAL DREAM.Where is the African Ideal
Dream? Who will speak on the behalf of the poor? Who will air the
voice of the voiceless? Who is willing to listen and act reasonably?
Who will speak on behalf of the children, women and the vulnerable
people? The voice may be silenced but the spirit of change coming is
too strong for any power to stop it. Believe me or not, but my dream
will remain and either you or the coming generations will come to join
me. I dream a dream of an African continent that has an independent
attitude from the Western World and whose nations can work together
towards a mutual benefit; a dream of African countries where the
rights of all citizens, without segregation of male or female, are
respected. A dream of an African continent which uses it own natural
resources responsibly, and instead of exporting its raw material, is
able to put it to industrial use in its own land; a dream where Africa
will be counted among the highly developed continents, and no longer
be seen as the highly poverty stricken continent which the facts tell us
today. The day is coming when the African political leaders will truly
work for the benefit of their people and think of the common good. A
dream of African Countries where the leaders practice transparency
and patriotism and cooperation between each other; a dream where
African leaders will stop the greed for power and grow love for
humanity; a dream where the extreme poverty will be history in all
African countries. That is when we shall truly celebrate independence.
A dream where the majority of people in each nation will have access
to the basic needs; a dream that says all Africans will have access to
education and information; a dream of Africa in command of her
33. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 15
social, economic, and political sectors with humanity prevailing. I am
waiting for that day, when the world’s weapons distributors will see
their markets reduced because the world will strive for peace; a dream
that people all over the world will understand the meaning of love,
forgiveness, peace and reconciliation; a dream that all who give will
give nothing but with love, all who love will love all humanity without
segregation and discrimination; that is the day we shall declare the
world of love and peace and the time for this is just at our doorstep.
I shall continue to dream and to sing my dream of a world of love,
peace, togetherness and development. Here I am, in the pipeline of
success. I hope to achieve all my dreams. I shall dream even greater
dreams, for the world is waiting for greater people than yesterday has
seen so far. My only chance is today. I shall keep my target and keep
alert to know when to take action. That is what it means to dream. I
can’t stop because there is a fire burning inside me. The fire comes from
my dreams and my vision. It has made me a believer in myself and
an actor for the rest of the world. The faith I have is going to win
because I will never give up on it. Therefore, action is all I have before
me now.
Action in the Pipeline of Success. Whilst we keep walking
in the pipeline of success, we never stop taking action; it is a
necessity. If you don’t take action, you will be acted upon. This
is very dangerous. Why take action now? If not now, when?
Why not now? How can I take action? Which action should I
take? In life we have to move from the phase of planning to do
exactly what we have declared to do. Taking action means one
will move towards the fulfillment of one’s dreams rather than
keeping a fantasy alive. Therefore, any dreamer in the pipeline
of success has to take action immediately and thus keep the
candle burning. To take action means you are motivated and
you have the willingness to achieve. Achievement of dreams
34. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS16
is for those who take action. The hindrance of procrastination
gets destroyed when we take action. Access to success means to
move from talking to acting. In the pipeline of success we act
upon what we believe in and so will achieve success; we believe
in it, live it, and achieve that success. What complements life
is doing something constructive with of the dreams you have.
Make sure that before you talk about someone else’s mistake
you have put in some effort to achieve something yourself. That
someone is better off without you just looking on because you
fear making mistakes; looking on, that is the greatest mistake.
There is no other way to learn than to do exactly what we want
to learn about or become. As a piano teacher, I know that
the only way to learn playing the piano is by playing. First
you may play in discords, later you get the concords, until
piano is what you play. God created each of us with a purpose.
Once you come to know the purpose for your existence then
you should take immediate action. Many champions of great
visions in the world acted first and thought of what they did
afterwards and learned from their mistakes to become better.
If you are waiting for things to happen instead of making
them happen, then who will ever make things happen? If your
question is “why now?” consider “why not now?” I believe in the
question “how do I make it happen?” and the answer “By making
it happen.” What proves your existence is what you have done
with it. Let your life be of a great positive impact to all living
and all of your surroundings. If you are just sitting and doing
nothing, we can just as well count you as dead, if not a burden
to humanity. “The true test of the American ideal is whether
we’re able to recognize our failings and then rise together to
meet the challenges of our time. Whether we allow ourselves
to be shaped by events and history, or whether we act to shape
them,” said Barack Obama, the President of United States.
35. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 17
Remember that what makes a child walk is continued crawling.
And that child can only get to the stage of walking simply
by continuing to stand up and falling down, and standing up
again. Therefore action will determine what you will be able to
do and will build your life stamina. If you happen to make a
mistake, and you recognize it, just keep going by correcting it.
This is what is called progress. Well, all good intentions are
appreciated, but humanity will embrace the actions that come
out of those intentions. Action is the proof of the dream you
boldly have declared. If you can’t be GREAT with the full five
letters of the word “GREAT,” be great by just one positive
action. To change anything on planet earth you will need
to begin with you. Simply do your best and your best will
always be yours. For example, today’s world leaders are laid
back and irresponsible, because they are not taking appropriate
action regarding the global warming issue. This is going to
prove a burden to the coming generations. Taking action is what
is necessary. Action needs to accompany your thinking of today.
It releases us from the burden put upon us by the past, thereby
opening a bright future. What are you waiting for? This is why
the world today should take action and address this current
environmental challenge. Talking without taking action will
lead to retardation of development in the future. Action does
not mean absence of failure but failure is surely due to lack of
action. This is so, because continued action overcomes temporal
defeat. So let us take action towards the environmental issue. “It
is possible only in one way.” The way is to take action now on the
green gas house emissions. Excuses do not count for anything.
All humans can do the best they can. That means you didn’t just
look on but took action towards achieving the best. You should
take the right action for the right reasons. In making a change
in this world the best leadership you can give yourself and can
36. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS18
give to the world is by finding the visionary, the creative, the
imaginative human being that you are, inside you. Become your
own leader, so that your vision can be accompanied by the
knowledge you gather and become effective. Research the world’s
famous women leaders. In 1960 Sirimauo Bandaranaike became
the first woman to become the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. In
1974, in Argentina, Isabel Peron became the first woman ever
to become the democratically elected President of the country.
It wasn’t by chance or fortune, but by the nourishing of dreams,
belief, determination and action. Furthermore, take time to get
to know famous women leaders like Margret Thatcher, Indira
Gandhi, Angela Merkel, Benazir Bhutto and Rosa Parks. These
are women of action, not words alone. They thought and acted
on what they thought! The point here is not whether you
agree with their way and style, the point is they took action
to make their vision and dreams a reality! Therefore, life needs
both dreaming and taking consistent action. In the pipeline of
success, humans will keep on dreaming, believing, and therefore,
planning and taking continued action. Of course, we will make
mistakes, but we shall keep rectifying them and learning from
them. Therefore, to achieve any success in life we will have to
dream, but above all, take action upon your dreams. It is clear for
those of you in the pipeline of success.
Dream and take constant action.
37. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 19
Since we are walking the journey of life in the pipeline of success,
we need a map. This will give us the direction to our destinations.
In this chapter we are going to learn about the compass and the map
of achievement. We shall know what achievement can be found there.
Who can achieve? How can one achieve? When can one achieve? What
can one achieve? From where can one achieve? And what is required
in order to achieve while in the pipeline of success? We shall also
learn how to protect our opportunities in life. And we shall meet the
story of the golden bird. People can only achieve if they dream,
are determined to work towards accomplishing those dreams,
work consistently and put in full effort, and keep their focus on
the actual goal and always think positively. Failure in one way
or another will keep coming. But the person ready for success
in the pipeline of success is alert about failure. When you fail
once, you need to examine what made you fail and use it as a
stepping stone for the next trial. Someone in the pipeline of
success will not be blind about failure and of course, failure is
not the goal. The world is full of opposition, but this prepares
you to build what you need next to meet success. Success is not
about material things or money. In itself it carries absolute
satisfaction. Satisfaction is not about having a lot of something,
like money or material acquisition, but comes from a job well
done. It is the confirmation of a contented mind and heart. You
can never achieve success if you do not hold success in you
as an internal element. You should think and work for success.
Success only works for you if you work for it. I remember
CHAPTER THREE
THE MAGIC MAP
OF ACHIEVEMENT
38. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS20
a pianist in our choir who used to say, “I am deaf to failure but
listening actively to success.” I think he was aware that if you
keep listening to the sound of success and you like it, you will
work for it no matter what. But if you keep an open ear to failure
you are also likely to listen to that, and you may be stopped by
that. In psychology, there is what is called consciousness and
sub-consciousness. Whatever you are conscious about, you can
easily remember and do. And whatever you have in the sub-
conscious section of your brain, you can hardly remember and
do. Therefore, keep success always upfront in your conscious
mind, and do not dwell upon failure. Dwell on success so that
success will travel to the subconscious section of your
brain. That is one of the principles in the map of achievement.
Whatever you desire you can achieve. To desire is to long for
what your inner self asks of you. Desire will keep haunting you
to perform your best to achieve your goals. I had a burning desire
to become a musician from my early childhood. So I used to say to
myself that if not now, then at least soon, I am going to become
a musician. When we had our childhood parties, I always booked
to be the guest artist to perform on those occasions, so I could
act out that desire to be a musician. Today I can perform, not
as the child I was, but as the person I desired to be when I was
a child. Desire is like the volume of your television set. If you
increase the volume, the sound will go up. When you decrease
the volume it will be low. Therefore, to achieve big things
we need nothing but a strong desire for them. How will you
be able to achieve when you do not know yet what is possible?
How can you claim to succeed in something without you
defining your purpose? How will you achieve something when
you might not yet have discovered what you can do, or might
not have never even thought of, or in one way or another
desired? If a person lacks knowledge of what he or she needs,
39. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 21
and has no definite purpose, and no strong desire, then that
person can never achieve. Come on, wake up and make up
your mind. What do you want out of life? What do you
want to give to the world? How do you want to reach
your peak of the mountain of life? When do you want
to start? Do you think there will ever be the right time?
On planet earth it is you who will have to make sure the timing
is right. Otherwise it will never be so. Determine today and now.
Begin from where you are. Don’t even wait for the next second.
Since it is true that “where there is a will there is a way”, find
what your desire is, get ready to grow the skills you need to
fulfill that desire, act upon it, and it will surely be yours. Defeat
can only cause failure when you give a chance to Mr. Quit.
Never quit prematurely.
THE GOLDEN BIRD. There was once an orphan boy, who got used
to complain a lot about his situation. Left alone when he was 13 years
of age, he grew up at the river bank. He had never seen anything
good in his life and considered life as stingy and useless. Every
single day of his life, he used to wake up early to complain to
God for not giving him as much property as the rest of the
neighbors. He himself had been left a grass-hatched house by
his parents. It was now leaking and worn out, but he never did
anything about it, and only ever complained. He did nothing to
solve any of his problems or come up with a new house himself.
One day, as he was doing his usual complaining early in the
morning, there was a bird in the tree, called a “golden bird.” The
bird asked him: “What is the matter my friend?” He answered:
“Everything is the problem.” Golden bird said: “Can you open
your palms so I can come and sit in your hands so we can talk
about it?” “Sure,” he said. The golden bird came into his palms.
The bird told him: “I am here with you today. By the time I leave,
40. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS22
you will either be changed, if that is your wish or stay as you
are, in your complaining camp.” He quickly mentioned that he
wanted to get a change for the better, just like any other human
being would wish. The golden bird asked him to listen carefully
to some important principles, each one being of the same
importance as the other. When he had heard them all, he would
either become successful or stay as he was, in his pauperism and
complaining camp. The bird told him these principles:
PRINCIPLES IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS
1. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF, DO YOUR BEST AND
TRUST IN GOD FOR THE REST.
2. NEVER LET GO OF WHAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR
HANDS.
Before the golden bird had finished speaking these principles,
it asked the young man to let it go back to the tree to tell him
the final and third principle of prosperity. He gave the bird its
request and let it go back to the tree. When the bird had gone
back to the tree, it first of all asked him to mention the first
and the second principle before it could mention the third. The
boy repeated them and then the bird opened its feathers and to
the boy’s amazement they were all made of pure gold! He tried
to call the bird back but it was too late. The golden bird was
free. And so he caused his own disappointment. Remember that
in life people can get easily excited about the future without
taking good care of the present. This leads to failure. Humans
tend to get excited about opportunities and forget to take the
opportunities that are there right in front of them. Look at your
life map. How many golden birds did you allow to leave you?
41. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 23
How many times have you listened to advice? How many times
have you met opportunities, and did you then utilize them to the
best of your ability? How many times, instead of making things
happen, do you simply complain about what others did not do for
you? Begin right now to count that which you have in your hands,
and hold on to it. Improve your abilities every single second of
your life. Instead of complaining, count your blessings. If you
think you have never had anything fortunate in your life, then at
least look at the fact that you can think. Always remember that
life’s value comes not from what we have but from what we are.
Therefore, be based in the best of yourself. The magic map of
achievement can easily guide you if you value each principle of
life. We can meet the attitude of the young complaining man in
many people today, old and young, women and men, who keep
on talking and complaining. But attitudes can change, and so
can yours! In the pipeline of success, we never quit until success
is what we have. Remember, “Quitters never win and winners
never quit.” Being persistent means helping oneself against
allowing an attitude of failure. Scrap the words “can’t” and
“impossible” out of your dictionary. In order to achieve you
should have confidence beyond measure; grow courage or faith
that allows you to never give up. Build a readiness to get what
you deserve; that is success. Accept nothing less from yourself.
The following factors are very important on the map of
achievement.
1. Dreams of Self-determination
2. Meditation & Focus
3. Faith & Courage
4. Self-confidence & Self-control
42. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS24
5. Hard work & Positive mental attitude
6. Commitment and Persistence
7. Respect & Trust
8. Knowledge & Imagination
Ignorance is a terrible thing; it is the greatest stopper people
allow themselves! When you decide not to identify what you
know and when you do not affirm to yourself that you know
it, and when you do not search for the knowledge you need,
ignorance will be your guide. Find out what you know and
what you don’t know, and identify the difference! Do not worry
about those who don’t believe in your dreams. Those who don’t
believe in your dreams will soon join you as you gain success.
Keep moving in this positive direction of success. This will
give you the achievement you need and have been dreaming
of. Success carries the continuity of life. Success is to develop
your full potential, with value, honesty and integrity. Such a
successful human will never really die. Therefore, if you want
to live eternally, work and walk in the pipeline of success.
The fact remains that once you enter the pipe you have no choice
but to keep going. Anything less will diminish you. But to enter
the pipeline is a choice one must win. Once you are inside, you
are at a point of no return. Therefore, no retreat, no surrender.
To look back is to lack. To go on is to earn oneself more points
to help you win. Young and old, big and small are inside. There’s
equal opportunity for all in the pipeline of success. So nobody
limits your chance of achievement. This is because the chances
for achievement are infinite. Nobody in the pipeline of success
knows about how far things can progress, which means the far
that many refer to as ‘too far.’ Therefore, you should achieve as
much as you can achieve. Explore your potential without limit.
43. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 25
You should be capable of limiting your limitations. Use the same
will power to challenge all your limitations. Remember, nobody
will be capable of foreseeing his or her challenges. The prayer
here is to call for the power to overcome our challenges. The
door is always open for you to enter. Many never find their way
inside. That is why once you enter, there is no return. There is a
lot to be done inside the pipeline of success. Time is limited for
whoever enters. Make sure you keep doing something. Action
is a necessity. Idlers are trampled. We are born to be successful,
but many people lose success when they sit back on the fence just
looking at the world. They don’t dream, don’t believe, neither do
they plan. They don’t work, do not love or know themselves.
They are not curious but are asleep. They are lukewarm. An
idler -- that is what they are. None of these are tolerated in the
pipeline of success. A person should know exactly what he or
she needs out of life when in the pipeline of success. You should
either do something fully and well or do nothing at all. There
is no mediocrity in the pipeline of success. Funny enough, the
pipeline of success is life. So we are all equipped to go through
the pipeline.

44. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS26
Explanation:
All human beings have equal opportunities to success. Everyone
has freedom to choose either the best out of life or the worst,
but not both. No human does not have the freedom to choose.
You either drive on the right side of the road or you cause chaos
on the highway. What is important is that we strive not to get
success for the sake of success itself, but success for the sake of
the value we need to uphold. The principle is simple. Make every
day a day of added value to this planet. This will automatically
make you a person of value. This precedes success.
The above framework we encourage all members of the
pipeline of success to learn and practice.

1. Remember you are the best candidate to do the best in
your own life.
2. You don’t have to look up to someone else.
3. Struggle is the name of the game.
4. You are next in the line. The world is widely open and
waiting for those who are going to be the next great
persons.
Find out about your strongest and weakest points. Knowing
yourself will help you to tap your potential, which can never be
tapped by anyone other than you. Your thoughts are the keys
to the fulfillment of your potential. Full effort is all you need.
Therefore, Positive Mental Attitude (P.M.A) is a fundamental
element towards your success. Complaining is not allowed.
Discovery of new ways of doing things is rewarded. Improving
on what is already in existence is important. If what you have
is cow dung, don’t think of the dirt it can cause, but the bio-fuel
it can produce. Whatever happens is for the betterment of your
life, not destruction. Nobody should enslave themselves to the
past. Just do exactly what you should be doing now to make
your tomorrows better. Try seeing opportunity prior to your
security. Risk is part of prosperity. If you won’t risk anything
you won’t harvest. Let your eyes be glued to the goals. That is
the only way the obstacles will be trampled. Where there is a
river simply put a bridge. Where there is a mountain simply
create a tunnel. Simply be optimistic! Otherwise you will lose
yourself to what you think is impossible. The captain of life is
the mind. You can only have a discussion with yourself through
the mind. Remember, the most important conversation humans
can have is the one done internally. Make sure that the discussion
deep within you, in your inner self, is a positive one. Otherwise
you will break down immediately after that discussion. Of
46. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS28
course life will not merely be smooth. Be like the red ant. It is
ever ready to meet whatever comes its way. That is why it keeps
it claws open wide. When it meets the enemy, it grabs them
and makes sure that either the enemy dies or it loses its teeth.
We have a saying in Uganda: “Be on the alert, like the red ant
that moves with its claws wide open.” The ants’ community has
division of labor, communication between individuals, and an
ability to solve complex problems. In the map of achievement
we shall draw inspiration from the ant’s society. Many a time we
need to divide labor and keep good communication with others
in the pipeline of success, so we can solve the complexity of
problems that come up, together with others in the pipeline of
success. Also take some time to look at the centipede. When it
loses some legs out of the more than one hundred that it has,
it can still move. Things happen in life, and you cannot change
the past. But you can use it to improve the present by trying to
understand your mistakes and correcting them so you can be
better prepared for your future. Centipedes have between fifteen
to over one hundred pairs of legs. Centipedes alternate the
movement of the legs on opposite sides of the body like insects
do. This is about flexibility. In order for you to achieve greatly
in the pipeline of success, you need to adopt such flexibility.
Examine your power to protect your dreams. Why should you
give up just because of your temporal defeat? Resistance is
natural and normal. Apathy will add nothing to you but pain
and agony. This will make you of less value in the pipeline of
success. Come on! Those kinds of challenges are like the four
legs lost by the continuing centipede. Simply move even faster!
Otherwise you just loose time, which is our most important
resource. If you want to succeed in the pipeline of success, wake
up now, and listen to yourself. There is a voice deep within you
saying “Y.E.S.,” which is a direct command from your inner

and never stop
self. “You Experience Something” = Yes. If you will respect
this voice, you are going to dream greater dreams, believe in
yourself, consistently take action, and you will surely achieve.
The compass is clear to everyone in the pipeline of success.
And you will even begin achieving right now, this very second.
That is the map of achievement in the pipeline of success.

Therefore, since it is true according to the pipeline of success,
that all who achieve success become people of value, humanity

Therefore, in order for you to find your destiny, you need to
walk and work for success in the pipeline of success. Simply
follow it. That is the magic map of achievement.
49. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 31
In this chapter we are going to introduce what change is, how it works,
who can put change in place and what the benefits of change are. If
you have never had a good guide to understand the process of change,
don’t worry, it is here with you. The steps to take are simple. Read and
meditate upon each section in this very chapter. We will start by using
the metaphor of the snakes shedding their skin. By the end of this
chapter you will be able to change for the better. Flexibility is a good
element of change. Let us begin that process with ourselves,
and change our own environment to suit the change we need
to adopt. Change according to the pipeline of success is
defined as the ability to adopt new methods, instruments,
and means to achieve success. This is the definition we use
to become icons of development and success. When you adopt
change and you constantly work for progress beyond the
ordinary, you will be considered a symbol of success, excellence,
courage and integrity from one generation to the other.
Therefore start NOW to adopt all the necessary changes for the
better. Make a proper plan for your change process like snakes
do when they shed their skin. I have watched snakes in Uganda
for more than sixteen years. Snakes shed their skin regularly,
usually once in a year, some species more often. Snakes shed
their skin to allow growth and remove parasites that became
attached to their old skin. It is fundamental in the pipeline of
success for humans to try to learn from anything, anywhere,
anytime and anybody. Here we go for a positive change. In
order for humans to grow intellectually, financially, socially and
CHAPTER FOUR
PLANNED CHANGE LIKE A
SNAKE SHEDDING
50. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS32
in all sectors of life, they should learn to adopt any positive
changes. Change helps people to achieve new things in life. If
you do not change when there is a call for it, you will suffer
from the parasites that got attached to your old self. These
parasites could be given names like ‘I can’t do it’, ‘impossible’
or ‘nobody helps me,’ and they can cause apathy and depression.
They will surely stop you from growing and achieving a better
life. The change process begins in your mind. That means you
will have to practice some critical thinking. Since the snakes
know the right time to change their skins through shedding,
why wouldn’t you also know when to change for the best?
In the pipeline of success, people will know exactly when to
change course or not. The first rule is: be open-minded. This
will allow you to adopt new ideas. Keep in mind that before and
after your time there was, is and will be greatness. Therefore,
avoid prejudice and pride. Listen more than talk. This will
help you learn from others and can help you to change. If you
are not sure of something, why not try the method of asking
the same questions to different people at different moments?
If you do this, it will give you different ideas, and amongst
those ideas will be the unique ones that will assist your further
progress. Change means that there is an alternative. Therefore,
be sure of making choices and setting priorities. And do not
forget that Timing is the main principle in the change process.
The following questions will be of help to your change
process:
1. What should I change?
2. When should I change?
3. Why should I change?
4. How do I change?
51. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 33
5. With whom do I change?
6. For whom do I change?
7. With what do I change?
8. How much time will the change process take?
9. What can I expect from the change I am about to take?
10. What shall I lose when I change?
Pin these ten questions on a wall to help you understand change.
They are guiding principles in the pipeline of success. Think
them through! Does change in life ever happen without you
yourself noticing it? Well, if it happens the way humans lose
numerous tiny skin cells each day, then you better pay attention
andtakecare!Itisimportanttotakenoticeof changesinyourlife.
Snakes always notice when they need to go through the process
of shedding their skin. Nature tells them what to do, and they
respond to the message! That is why they go where the terrain
is rough and rocky. They shed their skin by brushing against
something hard and rough. This teaches us that any change for
the better will not be a smooth ride. It might be uncomfortable
to shed your skin, and sometimes it will be painful to leave old
things behind, but keep in mind that it is for the betterment of
your life. Snakes will only shed their skin when their new skin is
already formed beneath the old. This means that before you start
the process of change, you need to give yourself new ground
to land on after the change process. When snakes shed the old
skin and the new skin appears, it appears with the same colors
and patterns as the old one. Humans however, as the summit
of creation, may choose to take on something different than
what they have just shed. Even the skin of the snakes doesn’t
look exactly like the old one, but for humans, they can adopt a
new dimension of life after the change from the old one, with
new patterns and new colors. A caution: Shedding in snakes can
52. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS34
sometimes cause loss of their tails when the conditions they are
in are not favorable. So make sure you examine the conditions
under which you change, thoroughly. Otherwise you may lose
the old life and not yet have clear what life you wanted to change
towards. Therefore, take good measure of the environment
around you before you change in the pipeline of success. A snake
listens to the call of nature to start its process of change; it
doesn’t have choice but will automatically know where to move
to be able to go through the shedding. But humans do have the
ability to use choice and make conscious decisions. Choice is a
determining factor in any change process. Humans should
change not only to achieve success but also to become a
person of value and high human standards. Success comes
from the achievement of fulfilling what we desire and attempt
in life. It is simply the fulfillment of one’s intended purpose.
To some it might merely mean fame or prosperity. But it really
covers both the tangible and intangible desires of humanity.
Tangible of course is all that we can see and touch, like the
desire that causes someone to become a famous football player, or
open up a chain of successful businesses. Intangible for many,
on the other hand, is value. To define the word value, we need
first of all to answer the question, “why does humanity exist?”
because this will give us the meaning of value. What is of value
is very important, has ultimate usefulness and carries with it
something which is worthwhile for humanity on planet earth.
What is of value causes someone to consider the right “Means”
and not the “End.” Value is demonstrated in being honest,
tolerant and loyal, and carries excellence and integrity with it
all the time. A false or shallow perception of what success is
may not necessarily do this. The real meaning of humanity is
living up to one’s full potential and not achieving one’s personal
desires alone and as a first motive, but to become co-creators and
53. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 35
developers of what is on the planet. The only test of the essence
of humanity is whether one has contributed to better the world
without minding who the beneficiaries are, today, tomorrow, in
a decade to come or perhaps even in a century, or a millennium
away. Value remains a fundamental factor in a successful
life. Therefore, a person working towards becoming of value
qualifies to get success. Unless one’s success is attached to value,
that success is of no use to humanity and our mother planet.
For instance, anyone can succeed in becoming famous but the
question remains, what are you famous for? Does your fame or
prosperity contribute to the continuity of the construction of
the developing planet? Does your achievement create space for
humanity to grow or does it only fulfill your personal ambitions?
Does your success fulfill the purpose of your existence not
only as an individual but as a human among humans and other
creatures? It is possible that the above questions seem simple.
But they require a good understanding of the reasons for
existence. Otherwise, we may continue to achieve what we think
are successes, but will never fulfill our purpose of existence.
That is what value and success mean. The better of the two is
their combination, by searching for what value one can add to
the already existing beautiful planet. That will give meaning
to success. The choice is still yours. Remember any good
football coach may train you how to kick, dodge, head, score
and defend, but it is you who will need to practice and develop
the skill itself. Change not because someone tells you to do so,
but because it will add value to our mother planet and to our
humanity. To change is to face whatever challenges cross your
path, with whatever tools, at whatever time and with whatever
it takes. One has to take control of the situation and take charge
of their environment. Change means you have to be optimistic
in relation to what you want. You have to think of improving
54. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS36
things, and not run away from a problem, but face it and deal
with it. It is one thing to think about change and another to live
the change. Living the change means you make sure that your
new skin fits you well. Isn’t it true that the snake doesn’t go
back to the old skin to see if it still fits? To change things for
the better, we have to think positively and view things as being
possible, no matter what the current situation looks like. The
final stage in this is to take responsibility for the changes, keep
focused, listen to advice, make it a way of life and enjoy your
journey to change. This will give you the confidence to achieve
your ambitions. Never try to make changes that are too big for
you. Work for achievable and beneficial change.
Africa and its opportunities for change. That is why I think
developing countries like Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria,
and Rwanda should change from corruption to transparency and
development. African countries should embrace the necessary
changes away from tribalism, nepotism and segregation to love,
peace, forgiveness and reconciliation for the sake of sustainable
development. Africa does not need to copy and paste everything
from the Western world. Africa has its own unique environment
and should find a way to respect itself. How could things change
so that an African university will produce job creators, not
just job seekers? What would be needed to turn our education
system into a system that will support real development? Why
should the many African scholars who have studied in the
developed world not come back with ideas that will benefit our
mother continent Africa? Should Africa keep the last position in
development and maintain the first position in poverty? Why
should we allow Africa to be identified with poverty, war and
violence and not with peace, co-existence of many different
peoples, prosperity and growth? Why should we, the African
55. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 37
youth, keep moving on the waves of politicians who seek their
own ends and not development? Should we keep fighting each
other on an ethnic basis? Let us stop exactly where we are,
and examine our ways and life. Let today be the first day we
adopt a positive change to renew the face of our nations.
Africa can only change for the better when beginning
with you and me. Peace, love, development, and transparency
can only be achieved if Africans themselves, from the man in
his shop to the woman in the market to the political leaders,
examine their motives and start to look beyond greed, power
and selfishness. The time has come for us in Africa to shed our
skin of corruption, segregation, hatred, discrimination, laziness,
tribalism, prejudice, pride and to now craft a new Africa. That
is the change advice from the pipeline of success. Take it! Live
it! We need it. We shall not achieve this through luck or fortune
but only by hard work. The positive change begins today, and
it can never be stopped. Let each of us begin shedding our
old useless skin, which is infected with parasites of negative
thinking, and let the new one beneath the old, shine with
its new transparent appearance. That is planning your change
like snakes shedding their skin in the pipeline of success.
56. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS38
In this chapter we are going to find out what great potential we
have but which we so far have never used. We shall get
instruments and methods to get the best out of ourselves simply
by adopting the qualities of the eagle. We shall come to know
about the eagles of development and how the eagle inspires us
to greatness. If you doubted your success whilst in the pipeline
of success, consider it afresh at the end of this chapter.
The eagle signifies power, victory, authority, royalty and valor.
As a researcher in East Africa,
I have closely watched the icon
of thesky;theEagle.InUganda
I watched the African Fish
Eagle (Haliaeetus Vocifer) and
the Long Crested Eagle
(Lophaetus Occipitalis). In
Kenya, where I have stayed for
two years doing research, I
have found that the Eagle varieties include the Tawny Eagle and
Fish Eagle. The Tawny Eagle tends to be a scavenger and the
Fish Eagle tends to catch its own fish. Fish Eagles have a bright
white head, chest and tail set against a dark body and wings.
Those are the eagles I used to watch in East Africa. There are
quite a number of species of eagles all over the world. Bald
eagles reside in North America from Alaska and Canada to
Northern Mexico. They live near swamps, lakes, oceans and
rivers, where there are lots of fish, clean waters, and tall trees

STABLE - LIKE THE EAGLE
You, Eagle, silent deep within me, wake up!
57. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 39
for nesting and roosting. I think you too probably have seen the
eagle. But have you really looked at it? Have you seen its special
characteristics? In the pipeline of success, people will need the
quality of stability which the eagle teaches us about. The
background of the person in the pipeline of success does not
matter. Just begin today to adopt the characteristics of the eagle
which we are now going to learn about. What matters is that
you abide by the rules that the eagle teaches you, once you get to
know its ways. So here we go. The main characteristics we will
need to adopt from the eagle are to do with its physical structure,
habitation, eating habits, and mating patterns. In addition to
that, we will need to choose to be stable in life, like an eagle, or
we shall get trampled in the pipeline of success. Each rule and
principle matters as much as the other. I already have mentioned
something about the Bald Eagle. And “Bald Eagle” is going to
be the first name for each of the members in the pipeline of
success. The eagle can easily be identified by the type of its
beak, feathers, size, weight, and sex. Although there are many
different species of eagle, eagles all over the world have the
same characteristics. From their high flight they are able to
identify their target with sharp focus. In the pipeline of success,
a person should know exactly what and who they are and be able
to identify themselves in relation to where they want to go. One
cannot go anywhere without identifying where one wants to go,
and who one wants to be... This is what you need to do in life
today. You should be able to identify yourself against your
purpose. Declare who you are, where you are from, what you are
doing, where you live, and what you contribute to the community.
This will be required of any responsible person. And so it is
with humanity. We are one, yet with many different appearances,
but we are one race: Human! The Human Race, or better, Human
Care! So all of us have equal opportunity, and all of us have the
58. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS40
possibility to use our talents towards becoming like the King of
the Sky. We only need to identify and declare as human beings
what it is we target in life. Start identifying your unique and
special talents. Find out which of those you have already
explored completely, totally, absolutely and thoroughly. If you
have not found them yet, surely it isn’t too late. Just start now.
N.O.W. meaning there is No Other Way to go but to begin. The
remarkable strength and courage of the eagle has inspired
mankind all over the world. History tells us that in ancient
times the battles between the sun and the clouds were considered
as battles between an eagle and a serpent, and the eagle was held
in aweand worshipped foritsmajesticfigureandsuperbqualities.
The Greeks represented eagles with wings outstretched, holding
a serpent in their claws, which signified the triumph of good
over evil. Because of their strength, eagles have been a mark of
war and imperial power since Babylonian times. The majestic
figure of the eagle is born out of the continued vigorous practice
of trying to fly high, and the young eagle learns this by flapping
its wings continuously until it gains enough speed to get
airborne and keeps going. This gives the eagle unique and
attractive qualities of power and strength. In Assyrian myths
the eagle was the symbol of storms and lightning and the god
who carried souls to Hades. If you gain the qualities of an eagle,
you will achieve unshakable success. Remember we learnt that
to achieve success and build value in the true sense of humanity,
care and love is to win immortal qualities. This needs the
strength and courage of the eagle, which you can find in the
facing of the sun, the overcoming of your fears, flying swiftly
and using the wings of courage and strength. This will make
you the symbol of the wind as the eagle is said to be in Indian
and Babylonian history. And you will become the symbol of the
storm if you gain the power of hunting fish, the fruit of your
59. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 41
dreams, whether it is cold or warm in the deep water of struggle.
Mankind can only become the emblem of victory and supreme
spiritual energy by adopting the courageous and never-failing
power of the eagle. In the Golden Age of Greece, the eagle was
the symbol of the highest virtues. The eagle was also the sacred
bird of Zeus, the ruler of all gods. In Rome, the eagle was the
symbol of Jupiter, the supreme god. For the Romans the eagle
was the sign of victory and the unconquerable power. As Roman
legions conquered the world, they marched under the standard
of the eagle, with outstretched wings. And do you remember
the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States,
Barack Obama? Try today to become the symbol of success and
all will celebrate. You need it. Come on -- don’t just sit on your
talents! You’re next in line to become like The Bald Eagle. Wake
up now. Don’t look for it elsewhere. You are the best you can
find. If you develop the acute vision of the eagle and see your
opportunities, you may become the solar symbol, symbol of
attention and symbol of supernatural power. This will prove
your ability to inspire, and motivate everybody around you. For
you will have victory, immortal qualities, readiness and alertness,
pride and royalty. Many nations over the centuries had the eagle
represented in their emblems. Being a symbol of power and
authority, the eagle still retains a prominent place in America as
it was in ancient Rome. In American culture, the eagle is a
symbol of great courage, strength and freedom. The American
emblems of State figure the eagle. The Apollo 11 crew chose
“Eagle” as the name for the first lunar landing module. Man
landed on the moon with the words of Eagle Scout Neil
Armstrong: “Houston, Tranquility Base here……The Eagle
has landed.” You now are the eagle in the pipeline of success.
Never deny your capability to live in the full light of the hot sun
of your challenges. This is what is going to make you count as
60. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS42
luminous and gives you the character of the wind of success
and the fire that never ceases burning. It is the remarkable
strength and courage of an eagle that humans in the pipeline of
success need to adopt. Its inexhaustible strength is a necessary
attribute when we face challenges. These elements are the
requirements for anyone who enters in the pipeline of success.
Where there is no power there is no direction. Victory can only
be achieved if humans will consistently struggle and you can
only command authority over yourself if you have both strength
and courage. For this you will need to think of yourself as the
leader who feels comfortable to be in front and pioneer. Where
does the African eagle fly? Africa yet has to free itself. The gap
between the poor and the rich is still widening instead of closing.
Africa will need to exercise its wings to be able to fly high. It
will need the eagle’s vision to see beyond the next generations.
The eagle’s courage will be needed to break the chains of
corrupting influences. Will you help Africa find that, by finding
the greatness of the Eagle within yourself? There is no free
bread or any gain without effort. Sometimes, somebody will tell
me that things are not easy. That is not news. If you are looking
for easy things try failure; it is the easiest thing man can ever
achieve on planet earth. As for success, try to awaken the eagle
deep within you. The eagle flies by putting in full effort and by
committing itself to success. Someone who is waiting for a free
ticket is mistaken. You will be on the wrong side of history, if
you think of acquiring wealth and health simply by begging.
Stability, in all aspects of life can only be achieved by adopting
the qualities of an eagle. Therefore, keep your focus, use all you
have in command, know exactly what you want to get and you
will get it. The eagle hunts food for survival and feeds on fish
and small animals like rabbits, snakes and sometimes dead
animals. For the fish eagle, approximately 85% of its food is fish.
61. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 43
This is to do with living in an ecology in which survival of the
fittest is the game. The eagle is very smart in this game.
Therefore, while in the pipeline of success, you will have to go
hunting, and you need to be as daring as the eagle. We need the
courage here to be ready to move out of our comfort zone and
work for what we want. The eagle catches its prey not by
entering the water but by snatching it from the surface and
knows its timing exactly. Unless it becomes really necessary,
the eagle will not enter the water to catch its prey. But it also
means that those in the pipeline of success will know their
timing and will not get burned by the fire that they use to cook.
To use fire does not mean to be burned by it. Therefore, timing
is most important. You should always check your timings. You
can achieve twice as much if you keep time. The Focus the eagle
has is another element. You should keep focused on your target.
This doesn’t mean you should forget when to pull the trigger.
Do you know why the poor continue to be poor? To be P.O.O.R.
means Passing On Opportunities to the Rest who already
have. It is to do with a mental attitude. It is not the lack of
materials, lack of basics or money, but the mental attitude of
apathy, dependence, and ignorance.
P - Passing
O - On
O - Opportunities to the…
R - Rest who already have
Like the eagle you should be capable of lifting whatever your
prey may be. Do not try beyond your current capacity. If
needed, build your capacity so that you are able to carry greater
}P.O.O.R
62. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS44
prey. There is a saying: ‘The elephant can never fail to carry
its ivory.’ Like is the case with the eagle, if you go too long
without achievement because you only chase the larger prey,
it is possible that you will lose the power to go for the next
hunt. Therefore, value the results of continuous efforts, even
small ones. Many small efforts and many small achievements
will bring you the power for the next. It is like how the eagles
survive. To keep trying is to get more prepared for the next
achievement. Therefore, never stop trying. Having worked so
hard and successfully, you also need to make sure you rest like
the eagle does. This prepares you for the next hunting session.
The best characteristic of the eagle is the courage to keep
trying. When an eagle hunts, only one out of 17 to 19 attacks
is successful. How many times have you tried and failed? How
many times do you give up when faced with temporal defeat?
Try from today to keep trying until what you want is what you
have got. At least try 16 out of the 17-19 trial times like the
eagle. Don’t give up prematurely. The principle is: “not quitting
until success is what we have got.” Do not give failure a chance
to undermine your life. Learn how to protect what you already
have won. The eagles do this by holding their catch with one
talon, and holding on to their perch with the other, whilst tearing
off bites with their beaks. Therefore, whatever it takes, your
efforts should well be protected. The eagle mates for life. This
proves it has maturity and self-discipline, which is required of
any member in the pipeline of success. This means you need to
choose your mate carefully. Will you choose a positive attitude
as your life companion, or will it be a complaining one? Make
sure you will monogamously marry success. Like an eagle you
will build your nest big enough to accommodate the both of you.
The nest here is the mind. The thoughts you feed yourself with
should be positive so you can grow a positive mental attitude.
63. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 45
Renew your thoughts every day, have new ideas, in the way that
the eagles keep repairing the nest every year. Make sure you
only accept constructive thoughts deep within the nest of your
mind. Keep the nest clean and free of parasites, so that the new
ideas that are born in it will be healthy and grow up to maturity.
As we mentioned earlier, before its first flight, which may be
to the nearest branch above the nest, a young eagle vigorously
exercises its wings and flaps around. A young eagle will lift
off by facing into prevailing winds and flapping its wings.
Eagle couples, which is now you and your journey of success,
may sometimes force their timid young to fly. New ideas and
thoughts that are born in your eagle’s nest may sometimes need
your help to fly too, and be encouraged to the next branch above
the nest. About 40% of eagles survive their first flight and only
about half survive their first year for various reasons, including
the inability to recognize poisonous food. This is a danger to
those in the pipeline of success who, instead of searching for
the right thoughts, feed on the negative ones, which can kill
them before completing the journey. Therefore, beware of the
poison of negative thoughts whilst in the pipeline of success,
or else you may die prematurely. Take the example of an eagle’s
courageous struggle in life to heart. Be aware of the continuous
rough winds that will help you fly higher and faster, as the eagle
teaches us. The eagle has much more to tell us about walking in
the pipeline of success. But we shall have more to say about him
in future writings.
64. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS46
In the pipeline of success humans will sometimes have to face bitter
experiences to prepare them to become better people.
Caution:
A senior in the pipeline of success has come up with the following
statements. We advise you to listen to older, more experienced
people, for they are full of wisdom.
1. It is not what happens to us that matters, but what
lessons we learn from whatever our situation is.
2. The only power that can lead to success is the belief in
our dreams and our love to fulfill them.
3. Those ready for success will take responsibility for their
choices.
4. Hard work and courage are very important in a life
striving to have success.
5. Achievement is not for the timid but for the people with
a definite purpose.
6. Struggle adds value to someone’s life, and wealth created
from scratch is more enjoyable than inherited wealth.
7. You can become of more value if you make sacrifices in
life.
8. Real life is found in work and loving what you do.
Disappointments and hard knocks can bring about
success as long as you love what you are doing.
CHAPTER SIX
BITTER EXPERIENCES
BRING SUCCESS
65. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 47
9. To believe is to live. Act upon your beliefs, for if you
don’t, you can easily collapse.
10. To marry is one thing. To find a perfect match is
another.
11. Ignore obstacles and concentrate on the goal ahead.
This is very important in life for those in the pipeline of
success.
12. Never quit before time.
13. Keep dreaming greater dreams in order for you to
achieve even greater things in life.
14. It is not the voices around you that matter but the
internal discussion you have with your inner self.
Therefore make sure the discussion done internally is
positive.
15. Temporal defeat can easily be defeated by persistence
and hard work.
16. Achievement of one’s goals shouldn’t stop you from
dreaming further.
17. Bitter experiences can bring about success and joy.
18. Wealth created from scratch is the best.
19. The best wealth a person can enjoy is wealth created, not
wealth inherited.
20. You can never reach success without meeting the bitter
guardians of it.
Try the above and you will find success whilst in the pipeline
of success.
I met the director and founder of one of the most popular
schools in Kenya. This is a primary school located in the Rift
Valley of Kenya. It currently has more than 354 pupils and over
40 teachers and non-teaching staff. It has twice been ranked
as amongst the four best schools out of 381 other schools in
66. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS48
Rift Valley. It is a boarding school for both girls and boys. The
interesting story is not about these numbers, but about how it
came into existence. In 1999, a man called Robert was growing
tea seeds to be able to sell them, which helped him get a good
amount of cash towards the end of year 2000. He had first
sought employment as a professional accountant, and he had
found a good job with a company. He worked there for two years
and gradually found out that he might be able to do a lot more for
himself if he was to be self-employed. He voluntarily left the job
and decided to work on his own. He began by packing milk and
supplying the nearby towns. Later he decided to enter into a tea
seedlings business by planting and selling them. But still he was
not satisfied. In year 2000, he decided to begin a school, since
before his study of accounting, he had a profession in education
and so had his wife. Do see the point here! Taking a pause, and
stopping what you do sometimes, examining yourself, adopting
new ideas, accepting yourself as the best, being innovative and
ready to succeed no matter what the situation provides, can be
the start of something you really love to do and can succeed in!
So Robert thought he could open up a new school and succeeded.
On 17th January 2000, he was able to open up the school. You
may recognize some of the circumstances surrounding the
new school. Robert began the school from a small store at his
house. He just started with a nursery and class one, one head
teacher and two assistants. He began the school with 17 pupils
(including four children from relatives and two from friends).
And he offered free uniforms to newly joining pupils. At first
acceptance from the community was not easy, and one woman
was aware that the store where the school was located, was once
a poultry house. She asked him, “Why instead of wasting time
with these few children who have no money, don’t you continue
with poultry keeping?” He almost went back to poultry keeping,
67. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 49
but the vision he had was bigger than that. Another challenge
was his operational capital, because it was just not enough. The
few pupils who came did not even have enough money to pay
school fees in full, and parents were reluctant to pay because
many thought they were doing Robert a favor by giving him
children for the school. But Robert continued with his vision
of a big school in spite of all these challenges. It even got to
the point that he could not afford to buy himself new shoes.
Remember, he is in the pipeline of success. There is no quitting.
There is no retreat and no surrender. Once you enter, you face a
point of no return. Therefore, he had to continue. Never mind
what people say or whether other people believe in your vision
or not, keep doing what you know is right. What matters is not
their belief but the fact that it is a dream to be achieved. If they
write you off, then simply continue with what you are doing. For
in life there are always two clear opposites. Ignore what others
say, and think and concentrate on the work at hand. People will
always have their opinions. But not all opinions are good for
the survival of your vision. Three years later, the project now
had more than 100 pupils involved. Robert decided to expand
and start class four. This presented another challenge. After
advertising the new class availability, he only got four pupils.
He didn’t give up. He continued with the four pupils, and a
year later there were more than 30 pupils! Here we learn that
it is persistence that brings about the success we tend to keep
searching for outside ourselves. Success dwells within you; you
only have to dig it out. He even decided to begin a boarding
section at the school. Of course to achieve their goals a person
has to keep dreaming greater dreams and taking greater actions.
Robert took these steps like a man in the pipeline of success. He
did not focus on the availability of resources, but focused instead
on his dream. One has to keep the focus on the goals, not on the
68. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS50
obstacles. New challenges began, and Robert was aware of these
challenges and yet kept his dream alive, taking action to be able
to achieve his goals. There was no water source on the school
premises, no electricity, and no dormitory structure. All he had
was timber and cement. He decided to put up an open structure
without iron sheets. But he was aware that from opening day,
some money would come in. Whilst the pupils registered, the
money that came in was immediately used to buy the iron sheets.
And it was used also to pay the builders! It is when you think
positively that you can achieve your miracle. Never stop yourself
from thinking of doing things in a new way. Innovation is what
was required here. Of course he couldn’t have made it if he
had counted on availability of resources and tools. He counted
on the dream. At one moment he used the kerosene lamps as a
source of light for the pupils. His wife attended to the pupils
as if they were her own children. He later got a gas lamp and a
borrowed generator, and finally, there was full-time electricity.
This means that if he had waited for the electricity, possibly
even until today, the boarding section would be just a dream, and
never have become true. Today, this project is one of the biggest
schools in this town and also one of the best performing schools.
The school now has more than 354 students boarding with all
the structures furnished. Improvising is one characteristic that
is very fundamental. At first there were no decent bathrooms
for the pupils so he bought mats that were cheap and locally
available to construct the bathrooms for pupils. Today, the
school has modern bathrooms. In the beginning of his project
he used his store for the three classrooms, and later he used his
house. But now he has even built a flat towards the future plans
of expanding the school even further. You need to expect some
frustration if you want success out of life. At one point Robert
borrowed some chairs for the pupils. One evening the owner
69. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 51
came and asked for the chairs back without notice. Robert did
not sit down and cry about the loss. He bought some timber
that very night and worked overnight to build a few benches
for his pupils together with the wife. This means that we need
to take immediate action to avoid transferring our frustrations
to the people around us. This reduces inconvenience. I love the
fact that this school is expanding even further and creating
employment.
70. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS52
In this final chapter we shall learn about what we can use to become
the tycoon of our own lives and empower our lives economically. You
are born already wealthy, but you need to prove you know it. All your
questions are going to be answered here. How can I get self-employed?
How can I begin a project? When can I get into a new business? How
best can I use the readily available resources? How can I keep my costs
low? These and many other questions will be looked at in this chapter.
The tycoon inside the peasants. Vigo is the tycoon in the city
of the sky. He was born in Uganda in a peasant family of four.
When the fifth child was about to be born, his mother became
ill, and sadly died during childbirth, as did the baby. The father
of the family had also died two months previously. From that
moment on, Vigo, as he grew up, was determined to work hard
to make sure he would never let his family down. He was the
eldest son. He used the little money that was given to them at
the burial of his mother to begin a shoe polishing booth. His
entrepreneurial power was shown when he decided to save at
least 1,000. (Ugshs) every day. He made sure he put a big box
of hard metal inside their slum house in Makerere Kivvulu in
Uganda to keep his savings in. He made sure he respected his
business and loved it. He managed to save money, even if it
meant he was to go without food some days. By then he was 14
years old. At the age of 23 he discovered that the metal box was
full. Now, as he had promised himself to begin a good business
that would sustain both him and his siblings, he went to seek
CHAPTER SEVEN
DEVELOPING AN
ENTREPRENEUR’S MIND
(The Tycoon released from amongst the Peasants)
71. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS 53
advice from one of the business men in Kampala. The advice
from the mind of an Entrepreneur. Remember, he had never
gone to school because his family was too poor, just like many
African children. You might not know this, but the fact is that
almost 80% of all African families survive on less than $1 (US
Dollar), and so like many, he did not have the chance to go to
school. He was advised to follow the following principles
wisely and constantly:
1. Make sure you understand your business completely, totally
and absolutely well. Vigo was told to get the business core
engine. To clearly understand the product and services he
wanted to offer. To love that very business passionately.
2. Be reliable and consistent. This would make him an even more
successful entrepreneur than Mr. Victor, the advisor.
3. Be ready to take the necessary risks, but not foolishly so. Without
risks there are no profits in business. Vigo was told to get
ready to even lose the money he had saved in hardship and
over a long period of time.
4. He was advised to invest only in quality products and services.
Anything less would render his efforts a failure.
5. He was also advised to recapitalize his business and employ the
right people. To look for mature people with the right skills,
people who are result oriented and with a positive attitude.
6. He was also advised to develop the right culture of discipline
to maintain the image of the business and to avoid
bureaucracy, as well as to provide immediate solutions to
the challenges that would arise in his business.
72. WALKING IN THE PIPELINE OF SUCCESS54
7. He was advised to invest a great deal in the training and
development of those within the business, because this
would help the quick growth of the business.
8. He was also advised to keep promoting his business. This
would help him to get more demand and therefore more
supply, and the result would be the growing profit and
expansion of his business.
9. He was also advised to invest in technology to help his
business grow. He was told about the necessary technology,
and that he could sell his products and services online over
the internet. And this would bring his business to another
level.
10. He was asked to be decisive. He should take the right action
quickly and stay focused on the set goals of his business.
This would keep him in business.
11. He was also told to balance his criticism and compliments to
his workers well and to make sure he is not ruled by ego and
personality.
Vigo asked why he was given so many principles. He was told
that it was for his survival in business. He dared to ask Mr. Victor
whether the advisor himself was following all those principles.
And the response he received was that every game has its own
rules. You either follow up on them all or stay out of the game.
And Vigo went home with the advice. During that time period
in Uganda, there were few people dealing in cattle hides. He
decided to enter into this business in which only a few people
were dealing. The business turned out to be very lucrative for
him. He even began to export the hides. He was the first man
in East Africa to export these hides. He became so prosperous
