Professional Experience
Soitec Solar LLC, Rancho Bernardo, CA May 2012 – Present
Process / Quality Engineer
We successfully opened a factory in San Diego that makes CPV Solar panels. I am the engineer in charge of
the assembly of the various parts that make a solar module (Frame, Receiver plates, Lens Plates). This
includes the final testing of those modules.
• Worked with our vendor in Ohio on commissioning the frame welding tools and was able to
accomplish a 100% yield in the frame area.
• Worked on commissioning the Module assembly tool, and was able to improve the 1st
pass yield from
42%, at start up, to 97%, and a 2nd
pass yield at better than 99%, and an output of the planned 16
modules an hour.
• Using JMP Software and other tools, we were able to tighten up our specification for LP to RP
alignment from 0.6 mm to 0.3 mm, in turn improving the efficiency of the module.
• Developed a system to measure modules outdoor on the “Plug and Sun” for sample testing of the
process under real conditions.
• Created audits and check sheets for the process to cover all points highlighted in the control plan and
the FMEA.
• Created SPC Charts and monitored the process and made adjustments to maintain a CP and CPK of
1.3 or better.
Harmonic Somfy, Poway, CA 2009 – May 2012
Quality Manufacturing Engineer
Being a small company of 30 people, we take on more responsibilities than the position requires.
I managed to teach myself how to use a smart scope and various metrology equipment, and improved the
metrology lab to make it more efficient.
• Manage two personnel in the incoming inspection and one person in the Metrology lab.
• Developed a system for FAA (First Article Approval) and incoming inspection on the parts for a new
project, also developed a system for corrective actions internal and external (vendors and suppliers).
• Worked on ECN’s (Engineering Change Notices) and managed temporary authorizations.
• Managed the quality on the company’s lines at two different contract manufacturers in Mexico;
brought up the lines yield from unknown to better than 90% yield by gathering data and working with
the C.M. to eliminate rejects, Tracked scrap and analyzed the parts, if problems are found create a
corrective action and work with the supplier to solve the problem.
