AMETEK, Oak Ridge, TN 1981 – 2017
Manufacturing Engineer
Accomplishments:
• Introduced new product assembly and test processes to the manufacturing floor which
ensured the smooth transition from R&D to efficient production. This included
identifying and purchasing test equipment, fixtures and software required.
• Managed outsourcing of cable assemblies and printed circuit board assembly and test
resulting in savings of $30,000 annually.
• Changed Wave Soldering processes resulting in a $70,000 savings in solvents. This
was done by replacing rosin flux and vapor degreasing with water soluble flux.
• Created procedures and instructions to meet ISO 9000 quality certification resulting in
better efficiency and traceability.
• Developed test programs for over 200 Printed Circuit Board assemblies resulting in
improved quality and reliability in final test.
• Designed rotating work stations for improved efficiency in assembling and testing
heavier instruments.
• Assisted in producing Kanban systems for better flow and control of inventory.
• Participated in Six Sigma events to analyze production metrics and improve quality and
consistency.
• Provided technical support to test technicians including troubleshooting methodology.
• Supported outsourcing of product to vendors including travel to Slovakia to train the
technicians on testing our products.
• Helped design and build water and air monitoring systems for $1M Egyptian order
including designing a passive latching relay system for power outage recovery.
• Introduced de-ionizer cleaning for high impedance circuit boards to improve
performance to meet published specifications.
• Conducted time studies to evaluate and adjust labor standards for accurate costs.
• Designed probes for applications in Nano-scanning technology resulting in a 70% cost
reduction over purchased price from vendors.
